Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 3/4, 7:33 PM CT
The Sun-Sentinel reports that Odalis Perez would like to play for the Marlins, but the team has yet to contact his agent.

Our View: Perez refused to show up to the Nationals camp because his extension was a minor-league deal. He has nine or 10 teams are interested in him, but it's probably unsubstantiated. He is a mostly ineffective veteran who allowed righties to hit .306 off him last year. And 2008, was actually his best showing since 2004. Don't count on the Marlins offering him a major league deal.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 3/3, 6:20 PM CT
Odalis Perez said about nine or 10 teams are interested in his services and that he expects to sign on with one of them in the near future, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Our View: Perez is slated to help out Team Dominican Republic for the time being and will use the World Baseball Classic to showcase his ability to prospective teams. His 7-12 record wasn't that bad last season considering it came with the Nationals, nor was the 4.34 ERA, though he'll have to greatly improve upon his 1.48 WHIP (1.66 in 2007) if he hopes to latch on with a big league roster and maintain a starting spot.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsThursday 2/26, 10:36 AM CT
The Rangers are not believed to be interested in Odalis Perez after being released by the Nationals, according to the Star-Telegram.

Our View: The Rangers lost interest in Perez after signing Kris Benson. Perez is expected to represent the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic, which could be used as an audition to interest MLB clubs.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsMonday 2/23, 11:06 AM CT
Odalis Perez has been released by the Nationals after refusing to report to spring camp, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Perez is expected to represent the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic. Perez was not likely to hold much fantasy value going into the season with the Nationals anyway and now must find another suitor.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsSunday 2/22, 5:00 PM CT
Pitcher Odalis Perez has not shown up to the Nationals spring camp, according to the AP. He has recently said he does not like the minor-league deal he agreed to, and wants a guaranteed deal. "He's not returned my calls, he's not returned [manager] Manny's [Acta] calls and he hasn't returned his agent's calls, so we're waiting to hear back from him," Washington GM Jim Bowden said.

Our View: Perez has said he would rather retire than play with that contract. He can be disciplined by the club, but it remains to be seen if that will happen.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsMonday 2/16, 4:29 PM CT
ESPN.com reports that Odalis Perez is refusing to sign his minor-league contract that his agent negotiated with the Nationals almost two weeks ago. He hopes to get a guaranteed deal, but he has yet to talk with other teams. He plans on using his showing on the Dominican Republic's World Baseball Classic team to showcase the type of shape he is in along with his effectiveness.

Our View: Perez turns 32 in June, but he has only logged more than 200 innings in one season of his 11-year major league career. He makes for a good fifth starter in a major league rotation, but he is virtually useless in fantasy leagues. At this point, he considers himself a free agent, and we suppose the rest of baseball should to.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsThursday 2/5, 8:47 PM CT
Odalis Perez has signed a minor-league deal to return to the Nationals, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Perez has some upside and pitched well at times for the Nationals last season. Perez was 7-12 with a 4.34 ERA but did have 14 quality starts last season.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 11/25, 10:20 AM CT
Odalis Perez's agent (Martin Arburua) is denying the report on ESPN that the Nationals are working on a multi-year deal for his client, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com.

Our View: Both parties are interested in him re-signing with Washington, but want to see how the free agent market progresses.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 11/18, 6:50 PM CT
Free-agent Odalis Perez plans to wait and test the free-agent market before signing with any team, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Somehow Perez finds a job each and every year. In 2008 he was 7-12 with an ERA of 4.34. He is a prime example for why youngsters should start to throw left-handed as soon as you can.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsSunday 11/16, 8:28 AM CT
The Pirates are rumored to have interest in signing free agent Odalis Perez, the Beaver County Times reports.

Our View: Just what the Pirates need... another mediocre left-handed starter. Perez went 7-12 for the Nationals last season, but he did have a respectable 4.34 ERA in 30 starts.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsSunday 9/21, 3:53 PM CT
Nationals pitcher Odalis Perez struck out 11 Padres but allowed three earned runs and still earned his 11th loss of the year in San Diego's 6-2 win.

Our View: Not a terrible day for Perez, but not quite good enough for the Nationals feeble offense to overcome.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 9/16, 9:38 PM CT
Odalis Perez silenced the suddenly feeble Mets' bats Tuesday, shutting them out for 7 1/3 innings on four hits while striking out six.

Our View: Perez had fallen on hard times of late after a nice start, but he had his good stuff tonight.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 9/10, 10:14 PM CT
Odalis Perez was hit hard on Wednesday night as he allowed seven runs, six earned, while recording just nine outs against the Mets. He was spared the loss when his team's offense came back leaving him with a no-decision.

Our View: Perez had been pitching just well enough for mixed leaguers to consider using him having allowed three or fewer runs in six of his last seven starts, but tonight's effort shows you that Odalis simply isn't a pitcher you can roll out there start after start.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 9/10, 12:50 PM CT
If anyone can slow down Carlos Delgado, it could be Washington lefty Odalis Perez. He is 5-6 with a 4.11 ERA in 12 starts and seven relief appearances career against the Mets, but the Mets’ slugger is hitting only .083 in 12 at-bats against Perez with no home runs.

Our View: The test sample isn't huge (Perez vs. Delgado), and right now it doesn't seem to matter to Delgado whether the opposing pitcher is a lefty or righty.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsFriday 8/29, 11:14 PM CT
Odalis Perez issued two earned runs on seven hits over 6.1 innings in Friday's 7-3 win over the Braves, with two walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: Perez improves to 6-10, and snapped a two-game losing streak.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 8/23, 2:19 PM CT
Odalis Perez cut the back of his left thumb in Saturday's game against the Cubs, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: It is uncertain if he left the game early due to the injury or due to a lack of control on the mound. He left after allowing four earned runs, 10 hits, and four walks over 4.1 innings of work. We will keep you posted when more details are disclosed.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsSunday 8/17, 5:07 PM CT
Nationals LHP Odalis Perez watched a respectable outing off the mound go to waste this evening as his team failed to bring the offense and lost 7-2. Perez pitched six innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: Perez falls to 5-9 on the season with a 4.06 ERA. He is 3-2 over his last six starts.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 8/12, 9:21 PM CT
Odalis Perez did not factor in the decision, but he did go six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out five Mets in a game Washington lost 4-3.

Our View: Perez has now not given up more than three earned runs in a start since his last game in July. The Nationals are so offensively challenged that fantasy owners won't get too many wins from him, which makes his value quite small.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsThursday 8/7, 8:04 PM CT
Odalis Perez picked up his fifth victory of the season in the second game of the Washington-Colorado doubleheader. Washington won 6-3 behind Perez, who went six innings, allowing just two earned runs on six hits.

Our View: Perez has been dynamite for two straight starts, giving up a combined three earned runs in 13.1 innings. He remains an iffy fantasy performer. He definitely should not be used in mixed leagues, but owners in NL-only leagues may take a gander at him if they are desperate.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsFriday 8/1, 9:26 PM CT
Odalis Perez earned his first home victory of the season as he allowed just one earned run over 7.1 innings in his longest outing since August 11th, 2005.

Our View: Perez lowered his ERA to 4.16 with this effort as he struggles to return to relevance in the fantasy game, something that has eluded him since 2004.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 7/26, 11:35 PM CT
Odalis Perez went just four innings, allowing six earned runs and earning his eighth loss of the season while raising his ERA to 4.38.

Our View: Perez brought a sub-4.00 ERA into this game, but that was deceiving, as he had not pitched quite as well as that might indicate. The numbers are now catching up to his talent, and if he fooled you into putting him on your fantasy team, get rid of him.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsSunday 7/13, 4:41 PM CT
Odalis Perez once again pitched well enough to win, but received no run support as the Nationals fell 5-0 to Brandon Backe and the Houston Astros on Sunday afternoon.

Our View: Perez allowed three runs on nine hits, walked one and struck out six in his seventh loss of the season. The lefty has a 3.71 ERA with three wins.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 7/8, 9:48 PM CT
The AP reports that Odalis Perez was ejected in the third inning for arguing the second balk called against him. After the call, he charged toward the umpire, and was quickly ejected. The left-hander had to be restrained by umpires and coaches, including manager Manny Acta.

Our View: In 2.2 innings Perez gave up an unearned run, walked four and was called for two balks. Perez has won only two of his 16 starts this season.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 7/2, 3:56 PM CT
Odalis Perez was strong in his second start off the disabled list. The Nationals southpaw, who spent three weeks on the DL due to tendinitis in his left shoulder, allowed one run and five hits in 6.2 innings of Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Marlins. Perez was not involved in the decision.

Our View: The lefty threw 53 of 77 pitches for strikes, including 23 of his first 26 pitches. Perez knew he was on a pitch count and challenged the Fish bats right out of the box.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsFriday 6/27, 7:42 AM CT
According to the Washington Post, " Odalis Perez, 30, will get the starting nod on Friday night against the Orioles at Nationals Park. Perez has been rehabbing a sore shoulder.

Our View: Perez was 2-5 with a 4.09 ERA in 13 starts with Washington before being placed on the DL two weeks ago. on June 14 with left shoulder tendinitis.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsThursday 6/26, 11:27 AM CT
Odalis Perez has been activated from the 15-day DL following a bout with tendinitis in his pitching shoulder, according to the AP. The team placed Shawn Hill on the 15-day DL, as a corresponding move.

Our View: Perez will return to the Nationals' rotation on Friday to battle the Orioles. Perez should not return to your fantasy rotation however, as he is 2-5 with a 4.09 ERA and 1.54 WHIP over 13 starts.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsSunday 6/15, 8:13 AM CT
When the Nationals placed Odalis Perez on the 15-day disabled list after Friday night's game, they could have made the move retroactive to June 4 (the day after he last pitched). That would have made him eligible to return later this week. But backdating the roster move would have prevented the club from recalling Tyler Clippard from Triple-A Columbus to make Saturday night's start. The Nationals optioned Clippard to Columbus on Monday -- and major league rules require a demoted player to remain in the minors at least 10 days before returning. Perez is nursing left shoulder soreness.

Our View: Thus Perez will miss more than one start. Washington was forced to make the Perez move retroactive only to June 11 so he is not eligible to return until June 26.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 6/14, 10:19 AM CT
The Nationals have placed Odalis Perez on the 15-day DL due to left shoulder tendinitis, the Washington Post reports. The southpaw last pitched on June 3. Tyler Clippard will take his spot in the rotation.

Our View: Perez may only miss one start, although it's tough to know right now since he's been slow to recover.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsThursday 6/12, 12:57 PM CT
Odalis Perez could land on the DL due to shoulder tendinitis, according to the Washington Times.

Our View: Perez missed his last outing due to the shoulder ailment, and he wont be ready to make his next scheduled start for Saturday either. If placed on the DL, it could be retroactive to June 4, meaning he could still return to the Nationals within another week or so. Tyler Clippard is believed to make another spot start in his place on Saturday.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsThursday 6/5, 12:58 PM CT
Manager Manny Acta commented that the Nationals are likely to recall a starter from Triple-A Columbus to replace the ailing Odalis Perez on Saturday, according to the Washington Times. Perez is nursing shoulder tendinitis, but hopes to miss just one start.

Our View: The team will announce their Saturday spot-starter within a day or two. The top candidates are believed to be Mike O'Connor and Tyler Clippard, both of whom pitched in the majors before.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 6/4, 7:41 PM CT
The Nationals have announced LHP Odalis Perez is suffering from tendinitis in his left shoulder and will miss his next scheduled start, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Manager Manny Acta has yet to name a replacement pitcher, but that start is four days away and thus such a decision may not come immediately. Acta added that the new player would likely come from Triple-A Columbus. Injured starter Matt Chico was scheduled for an MRI on Wednesday, but the results of that have not been made available yet. Perez's slot in the rotation will next occur Sunday against the Giants.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 6/4, 8:22 AM CT
Odalis Perez was forced out of action after three innings on Tuesday because of tendinitis in his left shoulder, according to MLB.com. Perez said the ailment felt like something burning.

Our View: Manager Manny Acta said Perez will miss his next start because of the injury, and he didn't name a potential replacement starter. The severity of the injury is yet to be determined as well.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/3, 11:31 PM CT
Washington LHP Odalis Perez suffered his fifth loss of the season this evening as the Nationals fell 6-1 to the St. Louis Cardinals. Perez lasted just three innings, surrendering four runs (only one earned) on five hits with two walks and no strikeouts.

Our View: Perez was troubled in April going 0-3 but had rebounded in May, going 2-1. Now it appears he is in the midst of struggles once more, suffering his worst start to date.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsThursday 5/29, 12:06 AM CT
Washington LHP Odalis Perez earned his second win of the season as the Nationals posted the 6-4 win over the San Diego Padres. Perez pitched 6 1/3 innings to allow three runs (all earned) on six hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: Perez was 0-3 through March and April but has found better fortunes of late, going 2-1 through May, though the seven home runs surrendered are worrisome.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsFriday 4/25, 3:26 PM CT
Odalis Perez will try to break into the win column when he battles the Cubs tonight, according to MLB.com. Perez is 0-3 with a 3.37 ERA and 1.54 WHIP over 26.2 innings, with 20 strikeouts.

Our View: He will duel with Cubs' righty Ryan Dempster, who is 3-0 with a 3.00 ERA. The Cubs are in first place with a 15-7 record in the NL Central, while the Nationals are in last place in the NL East with a 7-16 mark. It is not in his favor to pick up his first win tonight.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsSunday 4/20, 3:04 PM CT
Odalis Perez pitched well in a no-decision on Sunday, as he only allowed one run on five hits over six innings of work against Florida, with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Our View: Perez remains winless in 2008 over five starts.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 4/15, 9:59 PM CT
Odalis Perez picked up his third loss of the season this evening, falling to the New York Mets 0-6. However, that's not to say Perez wasn't throwing well. He completed six innings of work, allowing just two runs on six hits.

Our View: Perez did allow four walks and picked up three strike outs, struggling to throw strikes (103 total pitches, only 59 for strikes). However, it was the total lack of offensive support and the failures of the relief pitching that did the Nats in this evening.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsThursday 4/10, 10:03 PM CT
Odalis Perez scattered six hits over 5.2 innings, allowed two runs, no walks and struck out six in a 4-3 loss to the Marlins. This is about as good as it gets with the veteran right-hander, yet it wasn't enough as the Nats dropped their seventh straight game after opening the season, 3-0.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsSunday 3/30, 10:21 PM CT
Odalis Perez pitched well in a no decision against the Braves on Sunday night as he only allowed one run on four hits over five innings, with one walk and two strikeouts, with most of the damage coming on a Chipper Jones solo homer. That was a strong first outing for the Nationals' number one pitcher.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsSunday 3/23, 10:57 AM CT
Odalis Perez will get the Opening Day start for the Nationals, according to Districtofbaseball.com. Manager Acta commented, "He won more games than any one of our starters last year in the big leagues, he's the only one on our staff who has won 15 games before and he has pitched well in spring training. He earned it." He will fill the number one role following the surprising release of John Patterson.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsThursday 3/20, 11:15 PM CT
Nationals purchased the contract of veteran left-hander Odalis Perez on Thursday. Perez is expected to fill the role of recently released John Patterson, a surprise to say the least. Fantasy owners shouldn't be found anywhere near the aging veteran as Perez offers very little in any rotisserie category.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 3/15, 4:50 PM CT
Odalis Perez was shaky in his first spring start on Saturday as he allowed four runs on five hits over 4.1 innings against the Dodgers, with two walks and one strikeout. He is fighting for a rotation spot with the Nationals.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 3/11, 7:47 PM CT
LHP Odalis Perez was officially granted his work visa today, according to MLB.com. The Nationals' starting pitcher wasn't expected to get his work visa until late March, but Jose Rijo, the team's special assistant to GM Jim Bowden, assisted the effort and helped Perez get it done early. Perez is now clear to play in MLB exhibition games and will be making his first start later this week. Perez has been working with the minor league club and has experienced a bit of trouble locating his cutter and keeping his fastball down in the zone. However, joining the big league club will get him in front of the coaching he needs to get ready for the regular season.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 2/19, 1:17 PM CT
Odalis Perez signed a minor league agreement with the Nationals on Tuesday, according to the Washington Post. The report notes that the deal is a one-year, non-guaranteed minor league deal that will pay him $850,000 if he makes the team. While Perez very well could be a part of the Opening Day roster, outside of deep NL-only formats he is not a fantasy option.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsMonday 2/18, 8:42 PM CT
Odalis Perez is drawing interest from the Nationals according to a report on MLB.com. As it stands, if Perez where to sign with the Nats he would certainly get the chance to earn a starting spot since the team currently boasts, well perhaps that isn't the right word, a spotty top-5 of John Patterson, Shawn Hill, Jason Bergmann, John Lannan and Matt Chico. Still, be very careful with drafting Perez as he was one of the worst pitchers in the game last season (5.57 ERA, 1.66 WHIP).
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsThursday 2/7, 10:46 PM CT
Former KC starting pitcher Odalis Perez was recently scouted by the Phillies during a staged workout in the Dominican Republic, according to the Kansas City Star. Philadelphia assistant general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. told the Philadelphia Daily News the club’s interest was “lukewarm.” The Phillies are more interested in right-hander Kris Benson and plan to make the free agent an offer sometime in the next week.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 10/31, 10:39 AM CT
Not surprisingly, the Royals declined Odalis Perez's $9 million, 2008 option on Tuesday, according to the AP. Perez was paid a $1.5 million buyout, but $750,000 of that will be paid by the Dodgers. Perez posted a 5.57 ERA in 26 starts in 2007, and although he still could be overpaid this offseason, it's unlikely any team will give him more than a 1- or 2-year deal.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsThursday 9/13, 11:09 AM CT
Odalis Perez will not pitch again this season due to his left knee injury, and he was told to continue his rehab work in the Dominican Republic according to the Kansas City Star. "They understand there's no way for me to pitch again (this season)," he said. "I know why they’re doing it. They have some kids they brought up from Triple-A, and they need to see them. They need to pitch. I understand that. I'm not mad at all." The news that Perez will not pitch again this season is hardly noteworthy to fantasy owners - unless, of course, you have a thing for pitchers with 5.57 ERAs and 1.66 WHIPs.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 8/22, 12:36 PM CT
Odalis Perez was placed on the disabled list Wednesday with a left knee sprain, according to the AP. The move is retroactive to Sunday. Zack Greinke will replace Perez in Kansas City's rotation.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 8/22, 11:14 AM CT
Odalis Perez has been diagnosed with a strained knee ligament is expected to be placed on the disabled list before today's game. It's not clear as to when Perez will return, but club officials are already bracing for the possibility that he won't pitch again this season, according to the Kansas City Star. Zack Greinke will replace Perez in the rotation. The Royals are expected to recall outfielder Shane Costa from Triple-A Omaha to replace Perez on the roster.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 4/4, 10:10 AM CT
Odalis Perez will make his first start Wednesday, and the Royals aren't worried about the blister problem he dealt with late in spring training, the Kansas City Star reports.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 3/31, 8:17 AM CT
It looks like the blistered finger Odalis Perez has won't keep him from making his scheduled start on Wednesday, according to the KC Star. "He seems to be fine," manager Buddy Bell confirmed. "(Trainer) Nick Swartz said he should not miss a start."
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsMonday 3/19, 8:55 AM CT
Odalis Perez was pulled from yesterday's game due to a blistered middle finger, according to the KC Star. "Anytime a starting pitcher can’t finish," manager Buddy Bell said, "you’re concerned. But we really took him out as a precaution more than anything else. I decided that three innings was enough."
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 3/14, 9:44 AM CT
Odalis Perez threw four shutout innings in a start against Royals Minor Leaguers Tuesday, the team's official site reports. He allowed four hits, struck out five and didn't walk anyone. "He looked fine," Buddy Bell said. "His velocity was up a little bit and his command was good. That's the main thing with him, command, more than anything. He was a lot better today."
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsThursday 7/27, 11:22 PM CT
Odalis Perez, who was acquired from the Dodgers Tuesday, is set to join the Royals Friday in Texas, according to the AP. Manager Buddy Bell said Perez would start either Monday or Tuesday against the White Sox.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 7/26, 9:24 AM CT
Odalis Perez, who was acquired by the Royals on Tuesday, will immediately slide into the rotation, according to the Kansas City Star. However, it's uncertain when he'll make his debut with his new team.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 7/25, 2:50 PM CT
The Royals acquired Odalis Perez, Blake Johnson, Julio Pimentel, and cash considerations from the Dodgers on Monday in exchange for Elmer Dessens, according to the AP. Perez, who struggled in Los Angeles, will likely enter the Royals rotation. He was 4-4 with a 6.83 ERA for the Dodgers this season.
