Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsWednesday 11/4, 4:41 PM CT
Ted Lilly underwent shoulder surgery Tuesday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times' Chris De Luca. The team hopes he will be ready sometime "within the month of April".

Our View: Lilly had shoulder soreness late in the year, so this isn't terribly surprising, though there hadn't been any whispers that surgery might be needed. De Luca says you can count the lefty out for opening day and maybe the entire month. He also notes the team's previous bogus early forecasts for Mark Prior and Kerry Wood after they went under the knife. You would be wise to knock Lilly down on your 2010 cheat sheet.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsWednesday 9/30, 3:44 PM CT
Ted Lilly was hit with his ninth loss of the season on Wednesday as the Cubs fell to the Pirates 4-0. Lilly went seven innings and allowed four runs on five hits while walking two and striking out eight.

Our View: Lilly didn't get any offense to help his cause today, and he was excellent after allowing all four runs in the first inning. Lilly is 12-9 on the season, and he will have to consider the second half a major disappointment after making the All Star game.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsMonday 9/21, 6:13 PM CT
Ted Lilly has been scratched from his scheduled start Wednesday due to soreness in his shoulder, according to Carrie Muskat's twitter page.

Our View: Jeff Samardzija will take the hill in his place Wednesday. The Cubs did not speculate when Lilly may make his next start.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsFriday 9/18, 11:17 PM CT
Ted Lilly only allowed two earned runs on five hits over 7.2 innings in Friday's 3-2 loss at St. Louis. He had no walks and fired six strikeouts.

Our View: Lilly was in command tonight, but was forced to take a no-decision as the Cubs could not generate much offense. He earned a win in each of his previous three starts heading into tonight, and allowed two or less earned runs in each of his last seven.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsSunday 9/13, 5:22 PM CT
Ted Lilly shut out the Reds for six innings on Sunday. He allowed just six hits and a pair of walks while striking out seven in the 5-2 winner.

Our View: Lilly is now 12-8 on the season and sports a shiny 3.05 ERA. Aside from a DL stint that cost him a month, he's been Chicago's best pitcher this season. He now has six straight quality starts since coming off the DL.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsMonday 9/7, 2:01 PM CT
Ted Lilly picked up his 11th win of the season on Monday as the Cubs beat the Pirates 4-2. Lilly went six innings and allowed two runs on two hits while walking three and striking out seven.

Our View: Lilly was masterful today, and he showed why he was the only Cubs' representative in the All-Star game. His ERA is at 3.17 on the year, and even with his team struggling he manages to put together a great start and get a win.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsWednesday 9/2, 3:40 PM CT
Ted Lilly dominated the Astros on Wednesday afternoon, tossing eight scoreless frames, as the Cubs won 2-0 at home.

Our View: Lilly is now 1-1 with a 1.23 ERA in four starts since coming off of the disabled list.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsFriday 8/28, 4:04 PM CT
Ted Lilly pitched 7.1 strong innings of two-run ball on Friday, but took a no-decision, as the Cubs beat the Mets 5-2 at home.

Our View: Lilly allowed just four runs in 19.1 innings since being activated of the disabled list, and has shown no lingering effects from the shoulder inflammation that sidelined him nearly a month.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsSaturday 8/22, 6:38 PM CT
Ted Lilly pitched very well again on Saturday, but all he got to show for it was a loss as the Cubs fell to the Dodgers 2-0. Lilly went six innings and allowed two runs on three hits while striking out five.

Our View: Lilly allowed two solo home runs, one to Matt Kemp in the second and one to Casey Blake in the fourth, but he only allowed two other baserunners over his six innings. He has been very good since coming off the DL, but he is 0-1 in those two games and his team has lost both. His fantasy value is still solid as long as he continues to keep pitching like this.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsTuesday 8/18, 12:18 AM CT
Ted Lilly only surrendered four hits over six scoreless innings in Monday's 4-1 loss at San Diego. He had one walk and four strikeouts.

Our View: The game was tied at zero when Lilly exited, and Kevin Gregg was handed the loss as he gave up a three-run walk-off homer to Kyle Blanks in the bottom of the ninth. Lilly fared well in his first start off the DL, and should be safe to employ in fantasy lineups for his next turn in Chicago's rotation.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsMonday 8/17, 5:21 PM CT
As expected, Ted Lilly has been activated from the 15-day DL following his recovery from left shoulder inflammation, according to the Sports Network. Pitcher Justin Berg was optioned to Triple-A Iowa to make room on the roster.

Our View: Lilly is slated to return to the Cubs' rotation for tonight's game at San Diego (49-70). He is 9-7 with a 3.59 ERA, and should be fine to return to fantasy lineups, namely with a favorable match-up.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsMonday 8/17, 10:11 AM CT
Ted Lilly (shoulder) is slated to be activated from the disabled list in San Diego today and to make his first start since July 20, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View: He is expected to throw between 85 and 90 pitches. Get him into your lineup, though, as he is likely to start again this weekend.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsThursday 8/13, 2:07 PM CT
Updating a previous report, Cubs' All-Star Ted Lilly has announced that he is ready to return to the rotation on Monday, according to MLB.com. Lilly has made two successful rehab starts since going on the DL with shoulder inflammation.

Our View: The Cubs need Lilly back bad, and that has probably helped the decision to get him in there on Monday. The Cubs are reeling right now, and getting their only All-Star representative back will surely provide a nice boost. Fantasy owners need to get him active for the Monday start.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsWednesday 8/12, 9:44 PM CT
Ted Lilly (shoulder inflammation) pitched five innings of shutout ball in a rehab start for Single-A Peoria on Wednesday night, according to MLBlogs.com.

Our View: As long as he feels fine the next few days, Lilly will be activated from the disabled list and start against the Padres. He last pitched on July 20.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsTuesday 8/11, 2:41 PM CT
According to the Des Moines Register, injured Cubs' starter Ted Lilly will begin a rehab assignment in Single-A Peoria on Wednesday. Lilly has been on the DL since July 26 with left shoulder inflammation.

Our View: Lilly has been progressing quicker than expected, and he could return to the rotation as soon as this weekend or early next week. Fantasy owners should get the All-Star back in the lineup when he returns.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsThursday 8/6, 9:25 AM CT
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Ted Lilly threw a bullpen session on Wednesday for the first time since landing on the DL and Manager Lou Piniella said he is "way ahead of schedule".

Our View: Lilly will still likely return as planned for the August 17-19 series in San Diego, but it's good to know that his newly scoped knee is recovering so quickly. He is also dealing with a sore shoulder and will have another bullpen session Friday to test it. If that goes well, he'd have one light session and then head to a rehab assignment.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsWednesday 8/5, 4:54 PM CT
Ted Lilly threw a side session on Wednesday, and is reportedly ahead of schedule in his return from knee and shoulder issues, according to Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View: This is great news for the Cubs, who remain locked in a dogfight with the Cardinals for the NL Central. If Lilly pitches near the level he did before getting hurt, he could potentially prove to be the difference between the two teams.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsMonday 7/27, 7:44 PM CT
Ted Lilly's arthroscopic surgery on his knee has been deemed successful, according to MLB.com. Lilly had a debridement procedure (on his meniscus), which is the removal of dead, damaged or infected tissue.

Our View: Lilly is expected to return to Chicago at some point in mid-August. The Cubs' lone All-Star shall remain patiently stashed on fantasy rosters.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsSaturday 7/25, 10:49 AM CT
The Chicago Tribune is reporting that the Cubs have placed starter Ted Lilly on the 15-day DL with shoulder inflammation. The team will recall pitcher Justin Berg from Triple-A Iowa to join the bullpen.

Our View: Lilly said this injury is similar to the one that caused him to miss four or five starts in 2005, so it looks like that could be a reasonable timetable for this injury. He won't pick up a ball for two weeks, so it looks like he will miss at least three-to-four weeks. Lilly will also have arthroscopic knee surgery during his time off.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsFriday 7/24, 1:33 PM CT
Updating a previous report, Cubs hurler Ted Lilly is now expected to land on the disabled list in the "next day or two" with shoulder soreness, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: Not good news for the Cubs, who are finally starting to play good baseball again after a two-month swoon. The imminent return of Ryan Dempster should help offset this, but it's never good news when a team loses its only All-Star. Kevin Hart is taking his start tomorrow, and will likely hold onto Lilly's rotation spot until he returns.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsFriday 7/24, 1:01 PM CT
Ted Lilly has been scratched from his scheduled start on Saturday with a sore shoulder, according to ESPNChicago.com. Kevin Hart will start in his place.

Our View: This one wasn't hard to see coming. Lilly had his most recent pushed back a few days with knee inflammation, then promptly got bombed, pitching his worst game of the season against the Phillies on Monday. The injuries are probably feeding into each other, and the disabled list is a distinct possibility.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsMonday 7/20, 9:13 PM CT
Ted Lilly was lit up for nine runs (seven earned) on eight hits over four innings in Monday's 10-1 loss at Philadelphia. He had two walks and six strikeouts, and was tagged for two homers.

Our View: Lilly had a nightmarish outing, but still leads the Cubs with nine wins and 107 strikeouts. He was coming off a two-game winning streak, and should bounce back fine.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsSaturday 7/18, 7:49 AM CT
Ted Lilly will miss his scheduled start on Saturday with left knee inflammation, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Lilly isn't expected to miss much time, however, and is tentatively set to go on Monday. Randy Wells will start in his place today, while Kevin Hart is being recalled from Triple-A Iowa to start Sunday.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsFriday 7/17, 5:50 PM CT
According to the Chicago Tribune, Cubs' starter Ted Lilly is in danger of being scratched from Saturday's start due to soreness in his left knee. The Cubs will make a decision on his status before the game, and Randy Wells will take his spot if he can't go.

Our View: Lilly has been dealing with this soreness for awhile, but apparently it is getting bad enough that he may miss a start. We will keep you updated on his status for tomorrow, but be prepared for him to miss the start.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsSaturday 7/11, 5:58 PM CT
Ted Lilly was in control from the hill in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Cardinals at Wrigley Field, as he only allowed one earned run on four hits over eight innings. He had one walk and four strikeouts.

Our View: Lilly earned his 100th career win, and his team-leading ninth of 2009. He also leads Chicago with a 3.13 ERA, and has allowed two or less earned runs in each of his last three starts.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsMonday 7/6, 9:04 AM CT
Ted Lilly was the only Chicago Cub selected to the National League All-Star team on Sunday.

Our View: The Cubs sent eight players in 2008, of which Lilly was not one. This is Lilly's second All-Star selection. He has been one of the Cubs lone bright spots in '09, posting a 3.32 ERA and 1.14 WHIP through 111 innings, while going 8-6 in 17 starts.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsSunday 7/5, 6:43 PM CT
Ted Lilly only surrendered two earned runs on nine hits over 6.1 innings in Sunday's 8-2 win over the Brewers at Wrigley Field. He had no walks and racked up nine strikeouts.

Our View: Lilly enjoyed a strong outing, and leads the Cubs with eight wins, a 3.32 ERA, 97 strikeouts and 111 innings pitched. He is one win away from 100 for his career.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsTuesday 6/30, 8:46 PM CT
Ted Lilly gave up three runs (two earned) on eight hits over seven innings in Tuesday's 3-0 loss at Pittsburgh. He had two walks with seven strikeouts.

Our View: Lilly did not pitch bad, and took a loss due to no run support from his teammates. He has now gone four straight starts without a win, and was a dealt a loss in each of his last two.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsThursday 6/25, 3:16 PM CT
Ted Lilly fell to 7-5 on Thursday as he was hit with the loss against the Tigers. Lilly went six innings and allowed six runs on ten hits while walking one and striking out six as the Cubs lost 6-5.

Our View: Not one of Lilly's best performances, but overall this season he has been pretty good. His ERA is at 3.41, which isn't bad, but he just didn't have his good stuff today. He is still a solid play going forward in all leagues, so don't let this start bother you.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsSaturday 6/20, 4:41 PM CT
Ted Lilly did not factor into the decision on Saturday as the Cubs downed the Indians in 13 innings. Lilly went six innings and allowed three runs on six hits while striking out six in the Cubs' 6-5 win.

Our View: Lilly has been consistent all season, and he continued again today. He always seems to give the Cubs a chance to win, and he is a solid and safe play in all leagues, and he should be all season.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsSunday 6/14, 9:20 PM CT
Ted Lilly threw well on Sunday but did not get a decision in the Cubs' 3-2 win over the Twins. Lilly went 7.2 innings and allowed two runs on nine hits while striking out six.

Our View: Lilly kept the Cubs in the game, and the offense came through in the ninth to give Chicago the win. Lilly has been very good this season, and his ERA is now at 2.94. He is a strong play in all leagues, and should remain so all season.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsWednesday 6/10, 12:17 AM CT
Ted Lilly was in control on the hill in Tuesday's 7-1 win at Houston, as he only gave up three hits over 6.2 scoreless innings. He had two walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: Lilly claimed his seventh win of the season, and is 2-0 over his last three starts - and has only allowed two earned runs over that span. He is pitching like an ace for Chicago, and should remain active in all fantasy leagues.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsWednesday 6/3, 10:10 PM CT
Ted Lilly was strong through seven innings in Wednesday's 3-2 win in 11 innings over the Braves. He allowed six hits, one walk and one earned run while striking out seven.

Our View: Lilly's last two starts have been nearly identical - seven base runners, one earned run, and seven innings. His ERA is back down to an impressive 3.28 and his WHIP stands at just 1.08.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsFriday 5/29, 4:45 PM CT
Ted Lilly picked up his sixth win of the season on Friday with a seven-inning, four-hit, one run performance against the Dodgers. He walked three and struck out five in the Cubs' 2-1 win.

Our View: Lilly has been the Cubs' most consistent starter this season. With injuries to Harden and Zambrano and Dempster's ineffectiveness, Lilly has kept the Cubs in it. Eight of his 11 outings this season have resulted in quality starts.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsMonday 5/25, 10:08 PM CT
The Chicago Tribune reports that Ted Lilly was ejected from Monday night's Cubs-Pirates game during the fifth inning for arguing calls from the dugout. He now faces a fine and a possible suspension.

Our View: It's been a very frustrating week of baseball for the Cubs, who have lost seven straight. Lilly has lost each of his last two decisions. Hopefully he will not be handed a suspension.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsSunday 5/24, 5:55 PM CT
Ted Lilly was ripped apart by a light-hitting Padres' offense on Sunday. He allowed five runs on eight hits and two walks over 6.1 innings and took the loss as the Cubs fell to the Padres 7-2.

Our View: The loss dropped Lilly to 5-4 on the season, but he's still had a strong fantasy campaign. This was the first time in May that he failed to record a quality start. He's lost his last two decisions, but his ERA is still a respectable 3.77 on the season.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsTuesday 5/19, 11:18 PM CT
Ted Lilly has a solid start, but his offense never showed up. Lilly allowed three runs on four hits and three walks over seven innings, but the Cubs couldn't solve Joel Pineiro. Lilly was tagged with the loss as the Cubs fell 3-0.

Our View: Lilly has been solid this season. Even after Tuesday's loss his record is 5-3 and his ERA sits at 3.35. Looks like he was worth every penny of the deal than many though Chicago overpaid on. He's a solid fantasy starter in all formats.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsThursday 5/7, 11:12 PM CT
Ted Lilly was good again on Thursday, going six innings and allowing two runs on four hits while walking three and striking out five. The Cubs won the game 8-5, giving Lilly his fourth win of the season.

Our View: Lilly wasn't as good tonight as he was in his last start, but he was still very good. He has been shaky on the road, so tonight was a good sign from him. He is a strong play in all leagues, especially with that lineup hitting for him.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsSaturday 5/2, 2:56 PM CT
Ted Lilly struck out 10 batters over eight strong innings on Saturday. He improved to 3-2 by holding the Marlins to five hits and one run. Lilly also helped himself by knocking a two-run double.

Our View: Lilly has given up only two runs over 21.2 innings at home this season. In two road starts, he has allowed 10 runs over 10.0 innings. He is good enough to use no matter what the venue, but if you are juggling him in your lineup, the splits are very obvious.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsWednesday 4/22, 9:59 PM CT
Ted Lilly took a hard luck loss in Wednesday's 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Reds. He allowed just one unearned run over seven innings of work. However, he did commit two errors which helped lead to the run.

Our View: Lilly threw very well for the second straight game, but he has no one to blame but himself for the run that crossed the plate. Lilly only struck out two tonight, against 11 in his first 11.2 innings of work.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsMonday 4/13, 5:50 PM CT
Ted Lilly had a monster outing Monday in the Cubs' 4-0 win over the Rockies. He went 6.2 innings, allowing only one hit and no runs while striking out eight.

Our View: Lilly took a no-hitter into the seventh, but a Garrett Atkins single ended his bid. Lilly had a rough outing in his first start, but looked much more like the Ted Lilly of 2008 in Monday's game.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsFriday 4/3, 7:54 PM CT
Ted Lilly was lit up by the Yankees on Friday. He surrendered seven runs on eight hits in four innings and got scorched for three home runs.

Our View: The long ball was a major issue for Lilly in 2008, as he gave up 32, or nearly one for every start. On Friday, he threw 82 pitches, 52 of which found the strike zone.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsThursday 4/2, 12:56 PM CT
Ted Lilly is expected to pitch in an exhibition game Friday, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: Lilly has missed time with the Cubs while representing Team USA in the WBC, but the club expects him to be ready to take the hill April 8 against the Astros. Lilly nailed down 17 wins in 2008, with 184 strikeouts over 204.2 innings.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsWednesday 3/4, 5:17 PM CT
Ted Lilly had a strong performance for Team USA against the Blue Jays Wednesday. He threw four innings of one-run ball and struck out two without walking a batter.

Our View: Lilly projects to be at the bottom of the Cubs rotation, but could be counted on even more when Rich Harden inevitably misses time due to injury. He had a fine season last year with 17 wins.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsFriday 2/27, 5:55 PM CT
The AP reports that Ted Lilly was efficient and effective in his two innings against the Rangers on Friday. He allowed two hits, no runs, and struck out two batters as he continued his tune up for the World Baseball Classic.

Our View: We'll get a good look at Lilly in the WBC, although it's not certain what his role will be. If he comes out of the bullpen, there could be some negative effects to how he adjusts.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsSaturday 9/27, 5:59 PM CT
In Ted Lilly's last start before the playoffs, he went six innings giving up only one run on two hits in the Cubs' 7-3 win over the Brewers.

Our View: The win was Lilly's 17th of the year and now has won his last four straight decisions.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsSaturday 9/20, 5:37 PM CT
Ted Lilly allowed four earned runs on six hits over seven innings in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Cardinals, with two walks and five strikeouts.

Our View: Lilly improves to 16-9, and has won three straight decisions.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsMonday 9/15, 4:16 PM CT
Ted Lilly nearly matched Carlos Zambrano's no-no when the southpaw faced the Astros on Monday. Lilly did not allow a hit until the seventh inning and finished his day with just one single served up over seven frames. He walked one, struck out nine, and improved to 15-9.

Our View: Lilly opened his season at 0-4 with a 9.16 ERA through four starts. Since that awful beginning, he is 15-5 with a 3.59 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 161 strikeouts over 173.0 innings. In other words, Lilly has been a much better fantasy hurler than many people probably realize.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsMonday 9/15, 11:38 AM CT
Ted Lilly is 2-1 with a 3.06 ERA in five career games versus Houston and 1-0 with a 2.19 ERA against them this season. Lilly pitched fantastic in his last start, earning the win by going eight strong innings, allowing one earned run on five-hit ball while striking out five.

Our View: Lilly is 10-for-13 in quality starts since July 1st and 15-for-19 since June 1st, and a start Monday versus what appears to be a tired Astros' team is favorable.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsWednesday 9/10, 10:54 PM CT
Ted Lilly did it all on Wednesday night. He pitched eight innings allowing one one runs thanks to holding the Cardinals to five hits and no walks. He also trucked Yadier Molina at the plate in the second inning, though he failed to score.

Our View: Think he is more proud of running the catcher over or winning his 14th game? Lilly continues to be a solid third or fourth starter despite merely average ratios (4.29 ERA, 1.31 WHIP). With tonight's effort he has now gone over the 180 IP mark in 3-straight seasons.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsFriday 9/5, 9:22 PM CT
Ted Lilly lasted just two innings on Friday night against the Reds. He was tagged for five runs on four hits and three walks.

Our View: It was Lilly's shortest outing of the year and could not have come at a worse time for a Cubs' pitching staff that is dealing with an ailing Carlos Zambrano and Rich Harden.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsMonday 8/25, 9:09 PM CT
Cubs lefty Ted Lilly led the Cubs to a 12-3 win over Pittsburgh by going seven innings, surrendering three runs on seven hits and striking out seven. The win was his 13th of the year.

Our View: Lilly is 3-1 in August and has struck out 22 batters in his last 20 innings pitched.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsWednesday 8/20, 9:49 PM CT
Ted Lilly threw a strong game, going seven innings and allowing just two earned runs on two base hits while striking out seven, but he picked up his seventh loss of the year in the Cubs 2-1 loss to the Reds.

Our View: Lilly has not given up more than four earned runs in a game since April, and he has pitched very well in August. In his four starts on the month, he has given up two earned runs or less in three of them. He should certainly be a guy to utilize in fantasy leagues.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsFriday 8/8, 5:04 PM CT
Ted Lilly pitched 7.1 strong innings against the Cardinals on Friday permitting two runs on the afternoon.

Our View: Lilly only struck out four on the day, but that still pushes his total up to 133 which just so happens to be the ninth best total in the National League.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsSaturday 8/2, 2:45 PM CT
Cubs hurler Ted Lilly won his eleventh decision of the season as the Cubs beat the Pirates 5-1. Lilly went 6.1 innings, allowing one run on six hits while striking out five.

Our View: After a great June, Lilly had an average July, but has started out August well. With the amount of wins and strikeouts he has, Lilly can be of some use to fantasy teams.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsThursday 7/24, 12:12 AM CT
Ted Lilly held the D’backs to three runs over six innings in yet another quality start for the Cubs as he picked up his 10th victory of the season. Lilly lasted six innings and permitted six hits, three walks and struck out six.

Our View: Lilly is one of the better strikeout artists, he has 120 in 128.1 innings, but he still owns a middling 4.49 ERA and 1.34 WHIP which marks him as a useful part of a staff, but not a difference maker.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsFriday 7/18, 9:51 PM CT
Ted Lilly did not get a decision, but he pitched very well for Chicago in their loss to Houston. Lilly went seven innings, allowing only a solo home run to Carlos Lee and striking out six batters.

Our View: After a horrendous performance his last time out, Lilly re-established himself here. He has nine wins and racks up a good amount of strikeouts, and has gotten better every month of the season, so he is a useful fantasy hurler.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsThursday 7/10, 4:54 PM CT
Ted Lilly fell to 9-6 on Thursday as he was lit up for six hits, two walks and four runs in just 2.2 innings against the Reds.

Our View: Lilly needed 63 pitches to get all of eight outs on this day. Lilly is a nice source of victories and strikeouts, but his ERA and WHIP will likely settle in at just better than the NL average as last years performance (3.83 ERA, 1.14 WHIP) is likely as good as it's gonna get for this lefty.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsSaturday 7/5, 6:31 PM CT
Ted Lilly picked up a no-decision against the Cards but he still pitched well allowing two runs over six innings. St. Louis managed seven hits and one walk off Lilly, but he also picked up five strikeouts.

Our View: Lilly continue to bring the type of production that he is famous for. His ratios are manageable (4.47 ERA, 1.30 WHIP)is win total solid (nine), and his strikeout totals are formidable (8.39 K/9) giving him solid but unspectacular value.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsWednesday 6/25, 10:26 PM CT
Ted Lilly wasn't at his best on Wednesday but he kept the Cubs in the ballgame and was rewarded with his eighth win of the year. Lilly only allowed seven baserunners in seven innings, but he allowed two home runs which led to four runs scored.

Our View: Lilly has now won three straight games and this was the first time in five appearances that he permitted more than three runners to cross the plate. This is about as good as it gets with Lilly, but he is still a solid option in a rotation.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsFriday 6/20, 6:41 PM CT
Ted Lilly hurled a "quality start" on Friday in a no-decision against the White Sox. Lilly lasted 6.2 innings during which time he permitted three runs on seven hits and three walks while he struck out eight batters.

Our View: Lilly has now struck out 30 batters over his last four starts (26.2 IP) during which time his ERA is 2.70. His overall numbers still aren't great, but he has certainly turned around a poor start of late.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsSunday 6/15, 3:18 PM CT
Ted Lilly threw six shutout innings allowing one hit, walking five and striking out six to help the Cubs to a 7-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.

Our View: Lilly struggled with his command, but with the assistance of the big strike zone of home plate umpire Jeff Nelson he was able to strand runners in nearly every inning and record his seventh win.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsTuesday 6/10, 10:28 PM CT
Chicago LHP Ted Lilly picked up his sixth win of the season as the Cubs put the 10-5 whooping on the Braves. Lilly went 6 2/3 innings to allow three runs (all earned) on four hits with three walks and eight strikeouts.

Our View: In two June starts, Lilly has surrendered five combined walks versus 16 strikeouts, touting his best ERA to date (3.21 for June).
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsWednesday 6/4, 11:51 PM CT
Chicago LHP Ted Lilly put an outstanding performance on the mound this evening, but the end result was his fifth loss of the season as the Cubs fell 2-1 to the Padres. Lilly pitched 7 1/3 innings, allowing just two runs (both earned) on seven hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.

Our View: Lilly has been pitching rather well, going 4-0 through May and putting an outing on the hill that should have garnered the win in his first start in June.

Ted Lilly was rocked for seven runs (four earned) on eight hits over a mere three innings against the Rockies on Friday, and was dealt a no decision as the Cubs won 10-9.

Our View: He allowed two home runs in the game, and has now given up 12 over 12 starts. His ERA also climbed to 5.54 following today's outing.

Chicago LHP Ted Lilly struggled through a disappointing day on the mound as the Cubs took the heartbreaking 6-5 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Lilly pitched six innings, giving up four runs (all earned) on 10 hits, also surrendering two walks balanced with two strikeouts.

Our View: More than anything, the three home runs allowed put a damper on Lilly's day on the mound. He has surrendered six homer through five starts this month, but he walked away today with no decision and stays at 4-0 on the month.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsMonday 5/19, 9:40 PM CT
Ted Lilly picked up six strikeouts over 5.1 innings to earn his fifth victory of the season. Lilly walked two, allowed four hits and gave up two runs on the night.

Our View: Lilly used the elements to his advantage early in the game, the sun was a huge ally in the early going, and he hung around long enough to pick up the victory on this night, the fifth time in six starts that he has allowed three or fewer runs.

The Cubs used offense to get the win over San Diego, 8-5, this evening, but the work of LHP Ted Lilly was not without merit. Lilly pitched six innings, giving up four runs (all earned) on six hits with just one walk and 11 strikeouts on the night.

Our View: Lilly entered May at 1-4 with 6.46 ERA. His ERA isn't going much lower, but he has three wins in a row to get his record to 4-4.

Ted Lilly surrendered a first-inning solo homer to Arizona's Chris Young, then gave up just two hits over the next six innings in a Friday day game at Wrigley. The left-hander allowed one run on three hits, walked two and struck out 10.

Our View: Lilly has continue to show improvement after a slow start, and today's effort following a underachieving road trip for Chicago, was just in time. Lilly earned his third victory of the season.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsSaturday 5/3, 6:00 PM CT
Ted Lilly earned his second win of the season on Saturday, as the Cubs topped the Cardinals 9-3. Lilly allowed three runs on six hits (two homers) over seven innings, with one walk and four strikeouts.

Our View: Lilly is now 2-4 with a 5.97 ERA over 37.2 innings, with 29 strikeouts. That was a solid outing for him against the Cardinals, but he still ranks as a marginal fantasy performer. He held a poor 1.50 WHIP heading into today's contest.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsSunday 4/27, 5:32 PM CT
Ted Lilly, who was making his 200th career start, gave up two runs on four hits in six innings but lacked the run support to gain his second straight victory.

Our View: After second inning hits by the Nationals Wily Mo Pena and Wil Nieves Lilly and the Cubs relievers held Washington to only one hit the rest of the game. Nick Johnson started the second-inning rally with a leadoff single. Lastings Milledge moved Johnson to second with a sacrifice, and Pena brought him in two batters later with a two-out single to left.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsTuesday 4/22, 4:58 PM CT
Ted Lilly finally shaped up. After four rough starts that resulted in a 9.16 ERA, Lilly held the Mets to one run over six innings on Tuesday. The southpaw allowed four hits, walked four, and struck out four. He is now 1-3.

Our View: We could do without the four free passes, but we can't be too picky at this point. Lilly was a solid fantasy hurler in 2007, and we hope this outing gets him back on track.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsTuesday 4/22, 10:33 AM CT
Ted Lilly will be looking for his first win of the season today when he takes the hill against the Mets, according to MLB.com. He is currently 0-3 with a 9.16 ERA, and has allowed five earned runs in each of his last three starts. He did fare well in his lone start against the Mets in 2007 however, as he only allowed two runs over 7.2 innings, with no walks and eight strikeouts in a win.

Our View: He will duel with righty Nelson Figueroa, who is 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA. He was having issues with his velocity, and we will monitor his performance in that area today.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsWednesday 4/16, 10:42 AM CT
Ted Lilly is experiencing a "mysterious" drop in velocity on his pitches, according to The Chicago Sun-Times. He is not injured or hurting, and the team has not sent him out for even a precautionary medical test. Lilly said, "It's frustrating. You don't understand it, but guys go through it all the time. A lot of pitchers win without velocity. I'm not going to use that as an excuse." He is still scheduled to pitch on Thursday.

Our View: He is off to a 0-2 start with a 9.95 ERA over 12.2 innings, and hopefully he can get himself on track.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsSaturday 4/12, 9:33 PM CT
Ted Lilly struggled again on Saturday night as he allowed seven hits (two HR), two walks and five runs in just 4.1 innings in his second loss of the season.

Our View: Lilly seems completely lost on the hill as he has now failed to pitch even five innings in any of his three starts. Lilly didn't figure to be able to better last years numbers, but if he doesn't turn things around pretty quickly, he may not even have the chance to match them.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsMonday 4/7, 5:50 PM CT
Ted Lilly was awful on Monday as he allowed five runs and nine baserunners in just 3.2 innings before being removed from a game the Cubs came back to win. That's two ugly outings in a row for Lilly who has thrown only 8.1 innings with a 9.72 ERA. A lot will have to go right for Lilly to approach the career best numbers he posted last season, and if this start is any indicator it looks like a regression is coming down the pipe for Lilly.
