Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 3/13, 9:28 AM CT
Freddy Garcia hasn't been pitching as well as vaunted youngster Daniel Hudson this spring, according to Fox Sports.

Our View: Between Garcia's bad spring with the Mets last season, and Sports Illustrated's Joe Posnanski theorizing he could get a hit off of him this preseason, this isn't all that surprising. At only age 33, Garcia sounds like he could be closing in on the end of his career. Still, the Sox have already said Hudson is almost certain to start the year in the minors, so we'll have to keep an eye on the battle.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 3/11, 6:23 PM CT
Freddy Garcia was touched for three runs on five hits and a walk in three innings of work during Thursday's exhibition against the Indians.

Our View: Garcia currently holds the the fifth spot in the White Sox rotation, but if he struggles continuously in spring he could give way to a younger hurler. He should not be counted on for fantasy purposes.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 10/5, 7:09 PM CT
The White Sox decided to pick up Freddy Garcia's option for 2010, according to Sports Illustrated. He will earn $1MM in base salary next season, with a possible $2MM in incentives.

Our View: The 34-year-old hurler went 3-4 with a 4.34 ERA over nine starts, and apparently pleased the Sox enough to bring him back.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 9/26, 9:23 PM CT
Freddy Garcia was obliterated by the Tigers on Saturday, as he allowed seven runs on ten hits over 6.1 innings. He took the loss as the Sox got crunched 12-5.

Our View: Saturday's hiccup snapped a string of six quality starts for Garcia since he joined the White Sox rotation. He had been effective, but saw his ERA jump to 4.78 after taking a beating today.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 9/20, 4:02 PM CT
Freddy Garcia allowed just two runs in eight innings on Sunday, but got let down by an anemic Chicago offense, as the Royals won 2-1 on the road.

Our View: Garcia has been surprisingly effective since joining the Sox rotation in late August, going 2-3 with a 4.01 ERA.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 9/16, 12:16 AM CT
Freddy Garcia gave up three earned runs on seven hits over six innings in Tuesday's 6-3 win at Seattle. He had one walk with one strikeout.

Our View: Garcia had a decent outing on the road, and evened his record to 2-2. He allowed two or less earned runs in each of his previous two starts heading into tonight.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 9/9, 11:13 PM CT
Freddy Garcia pitched six innings of two-run ball on Wednesday night, but didn't factor into the decision, as the White Sox would need seven more innings to finally defeat the A's 4-3 at home.

Our View: Garcia is now 1-2 with a 4.40 ERA in five starts for the White Sox this season. He's not worth a late season flier.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 9/4, 10:27 PM CT
Freddy Garcia only surrendered one earned run on seven hits over six innings in Friday's 12-2 win over the Red Sox at U.S. Cellular Field. He had one walk with five strikeouts.

Our View: Garcia looked good tonight as he collected his first win of 2009. He allowed three or less earned runs in each of his last three starts.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 8/30, 3:40 PM CT
Freddy Garcia was hit with the loss on Sunday despite pitching fairly well. Garcia went six innings and allowed three runs on four hits while walking three and striking out five in his team's 8-3 loss to the Yankees.

Our View: Garcia was actually pretty good today, especially considering he was facing the Yankees in Yankee Stadium. His ERA is at 5.94 after his third start, but he has been decent in his last two outings after getting roughed up in his debut.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 8/29, 9:27 AM CT
Freddy Garcia wants a chance to start with the White Sox in 2010, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Garcia looked good in his last start against Boston, and he said, "Hopefully the Sox do want me back. They gave me a shot this year, and maybe I can show them that I am good enough to come back next year. It depends on what they are looking for, but, hey, I am here already, so maybe they will bring me back. This is where I want to be."

Our View: Jake Peavy, Mark Buehrle, Gavin Floyd and John Danks all under contract until at least after 2011, so the Sox will not have much money to shop for a free agent starting pitcher in the offseason. Minor leaguer Daniel Hudson could be an option for the No. 5 spot next season, or they could retain Garcia on a one-year deal.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 8/25, 9:50 PM CT
Freddy Garcia surrendered three earned runs on five hits over 6.1 innings in Tuesday's 6-3 loss at Boston. He had one walk and five strikeouts.

Our View: The game was tied at 3-3 when Garcia exited, so he takes a no-decision instead of a loss. He was not solid tonight, but at least he fared better than his previous start, when he was tagged for five earned runs over 4.1 innings against Kansas City.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 8/18, 10:38 PM CT
Freddy Garcia was tagged for five earned runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Royals at U.S. Cellular Field. He had one walk and three strikeouts.

Our View: Garcia had a favorable match-up, but fantasy owners were not able to cash in with a solid performance from him. He threw 91 pitches in his first start since last September.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 8/18, 4:42 PM CT
Freddy Garcia has been recalled by the White Sox from Triple-A Charlotte, according to TSN. DeWayne Wise was placed on the 15-day DL as the corresponding move.

Our View: Garcia is slated to start tonight's home game against the Royals (46-72). He is making his first start since September 29 (with Detroit), but is worth a look for deeper AL-only leagues with a favorable match-up.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 8/15, 3:26 PM CT
Freddy Garcia will make his first major league start since last September this Tuesday for the White Sox, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: As Larry David would tell you, curb your enthusiasm. Unless you are absolutely desperate for pitching, don't bother adding Garcia.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 7/27, 11:03 AM CT
Freddy Garcia looked good in his first minor league start on Sunday, according to MLB.com. Garcia went three innings and did not allow a run on two hits and one walk. He also managed to strike out three and induce two double play balls.

Our View: This is a nice start for Garcia, and the team will look for him to begin to stretch out over his next few starts. If he keeps producing, he could be in the White Sox' rotation by mid-August, but that looks like a best case scenario situation.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 7/25, 2:20 PM CT
According to the Chicago Tribune, starting pitcher Freddy Garcia is scheduled to make his first rehab start on Sunday for Single-A Kannapolis. Garcia is trying to return from shoulder injuries that have limited him to 15 innings in the last two years.

Our View: Garcia is hoping to return to the White Sox within the next few weeks, and this rehab start is the first step in that process. The team hopes he will only need four rehab starts before being able to return, but that will depend on how he responds.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 7/23, 1:13 PM CT
The Chicago Tribune reports that pitcher Freddy Garcia threw another strong bullpen session on Thursday and that he will likely begin his rehab assignment on Monday. Pitching coach Don Cooper says that he could use as few as four rehab starts before rejoining the White Sox.

Our View: Shoulder injuries have limited Garcia to just 14 starts since the start of 2007. He figures to be an average pitcher at best once and if he makes it to the White Sox rotation. Keep an eye on his rehab outings if you have interest in him.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 7/20, 7:00 PM CT
Freddy Garcia looked good in a bullpen session on Monday, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: He'll throw another bullpen session on Thursday before being added to a minor league roster. White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper said that Garcia will need at least four or five minor league starts before being ready for the majors, and even then there's no guarantee he'll be added to Chicago's starting rotation.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 7/19, 1:17 PM CT
Freddy Garcia is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Monday, then be assigned a location for a minor league rehabilitation stint, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: Garcia said he is feeling good, but it isn't really known when he will be able to pitch for the White Sox, or if they will even want him to when he's ready. Don't add him in any format.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 6/24, 9:15 AM CT
According to the Chicago Tribune, Freddy Garcia is still a long way from being ready to pitch.

Our View: Garcia is trying to build up strength in his pitching shoulder and is believed to be working out somewhere in North Carolina. GM Kenny Williams said, "That's a slow process," Williams said. "We have to build him the right way, the way he was supposed to be built from the beginning." Don't count on seeing Garcia in the near future.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 6/8, 6:26 PM CT
Freddy Garcia has inked a minor league deal with the White Sox, according to ESPN.

Our View: Garcia was released by the Mets back in April following two poor starts with Triple-A Buffalo. He pitched with the Sox from 2004-06, but does not garner fantasy consideration while working on a comeback in the minors.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 4/28, 11:10 AM CT
Updating an earlier report, Freddy Garcia has been released by the Mets, according to Newsday.

Our View: Garcia is dealing with a sore right shoulder, and there is belief that Garcia is still experiencing problems after his rotator-cuff surgery in 2007. He held a poor 8.18 ERA over two starts at Triple-A prior to his release.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 4/28, 9:30 AM CT
Freddy Garcia is dealing with a sore right shoulder, according to the Buffalo News. He said, "Maybe I want to try it one more time. If I do not feel the way I am supposed to be feeling right now, I do not know. I am going to try my best. If not, I guess I will go home. That is it, man."

Our View: The 32-year-old vet holds a 8.18 ERA over two starts at Triple-A, and is not worth stashing on fantasy rosters - especially since it sounds like he is considering hanging up his cleats if his shoulder does not improve soon.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 3/24, 1:51 PM CT
Freddy Garcia has been reassigned to minor league camp by the Mets, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View: Garcia failed to earn the fifth spot in the Mets' rotation, but could serve as a long-reliever if he makes progress in the minors. The club noted that he still has a ways to go.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 3/18, 5:07 PM CT
According to the New York Post, the Mets are likely to release Freddy Garcia. The Mets have plenty of options for their rotation and Garcia's poor spring has left him on the outside looking in.

Our View: Garcia will likely get picked up by another team if he is indeed released, but still wouldn't command any fantasy value as his best days are behind him.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 3/13, 3:35 PM CT
Freddy Garcia was alright against Detroit on Friday, giving up two runs off two hits, one which left the yard, and one walk while striking out one in 2.1 innings.

Our View: Friday's showing was actually an improvement over Garcia's previous two outings this spring, both of which he got rocked in. He appears to be on the outside looking in in the competition for the Mets' No. 5 starter with Livan Hernandez as the favorite.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 3/3, 3:33 PM CT
Freddy Garcia surrendered four earned runs on three hits over two innings of work in Tuesday's 15-4 loss to the Cardinals, with one walk and three strikeouts. He allowed home runs to Chris Duncan and Allen Craig.

Our View: Garcia falls to 0-2 in the preseason, and is losing ground in his bid for the fifth spot in the Mets' rotation.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 2/26, 7:58 AM CT
Freddy Garcia's fastball has reportedly been flat so far in camp and he looks as if he is still recovering from surgery, according to MetsCitiBlog.com.

Our View: Garcia, Tim Redding, Livan Hernandez and Jon Niese are all fighting for the fifth spot in the Mets' rotation. So far Niese has looked the best in camp, and skipper Jerry Manuel has been pleased with his "stuff."
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 2/14, 8:06 AM CT
Freddy Garcia expects to be the fifth starter in the Mets' rotation, according to the NY Times. He said, "I expect to be in the rotation. If not, I will have to go somewhere else."

Our View: Garcia fared well over three starts with the Tigers in 2008 as he held a 1.13 WHIP, and he will have a better supporting cast to succeed with the Mets. Tim Redding also expects to be the fifth starter in the rotation, and this looks to be a tight battle in spring training.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 1/27, 9:05 AM CT
The White Sox wanted to bring Freddy Garcia back to Chicago, but felt his price tag ($1.5MM plus $6.5MM in incentives) was too high, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Our View: Rosenthal believes lefty Oliver Perez would be a more attractive option to upgrade their rotation, but noted that he could have a tough transition from the NL to the AL, and launching pad U.S. Cellular Field, where the club plays their home games.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 1/22, 7:58 PM CT
The New York Daily News reports that Freddy Garcia has signed a minor-league deal with the New York Mets. Should Garcia meet all the incentives, the deal could be worth as much as $9 million.

Our View: Garcia is just 2-6 over the past two seasons and has had numerous injury issues throughout that span. He is apparently fully recovered from shoulder surgery and will be given a shot at the rotation. Keep an eye on his spring training to see if he is worth a draft day gamble.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 1/22, 4:06 PM CT
Freddy Garcia has narrowed his choices down to the Mets and Yankees, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View: Garcia has started just 14 games in two seasons, going 2-6 over that span. His fantasy value will be determined once it is clear whether or not he has recovered from shoulder surgery.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 1/21, 11:33 PM CT
The Yankees and Mets are both interested in signing Freddy Garcia, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

Our View: Garcia may have to settle for a minor league deal, as both the Mets and Yankees view him as a backup option for their rotations. The Yankees would still like to sign Andy Pettitte and the Mets would like to bring back Oliver Perez.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 1/19, 9:10 PM CT
The Daily Herald reports that Freddy Garcia is expected to sign with a team soon. His possible landing spot is believed to be with the White Sox, Mets or Rangers.

Our View: Garcia has not been a reliable starter since 2005, but the 32-year-old is believed to be mostly healthy. He is regarded as a high-risk, high-reward free agent. Keep an eye on his spring to determine if you want to gamble a bench round selection on him.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 1/18, 8:32 AM CT
The New York Daily News reports that free agent Freddy Garcia may be signed to battle with recently signed Tim Redding for the fifth spot in the rotation.

Our View: From 1999-2005, Garcia had a strong run, but injuries have limited him to just 14 appearances over the last two seasons. He is just 32, and it's possible he has recovered. He is a high-risk, high-reward free agent who is also drawing interest from the White Sox, Rangers, and Tigers, among others.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 1/17, 7:07 AM CT
The White Sox are interested in bringing back Freddy Garcia, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Our View: Garcia held a favorable 1.13 WHIP over 15 innings (three starts) with the Tigers last season, and won 17 games with the White Sox back in 2006. He would compete for the No. 5 spot in the rotation with newly acquired Bartolo Colon in the fourth slot. The Mets and Rangers are also interested in Garcia.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 1/9, 1:28 PM CT
The Mets have been talking to free agent hurler Freddy Garcia, according to Sports Illustrated.

Our View: The club could consider Garcia if they do not reel in Derek Lowe, Oliver Perez or Randy Wolf.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 12/5, 5:36 PM CT
The Hot Stove reveals that MRI results on free agent Freddy Garcia's arm revealed no structural damage, just tightness in his throwing shoulder. That dispels an earlier report from a Venezuelan paper that stated he would miss four months with a biceps injury.

Our View: Garcia is a free agent and it will likely be some time before the market gets to him. He has not pitched effectively in over two years.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 11/28, 3:27 PM CT
Freddy Garcia left Thursday's start after two innings due to shoulder discomfort, according to Meridiano Deportes.

Our View: Garcia had pitched pretty decently prior to the injury and it is unclear at this point how severe it is. He is currently a free agent.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 11/26, 7:15 AM CT
Freddy Garcia held a solid 1.13 WHIP over 15 innings (three starts) with the Tigers last season, but the Cardinals are not interested, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: The Cardinals have been known to add "scrap heap" pitchers, but the club is not interested in Garcia as they already have to deal with Chris Carpenter, who is a question mark for 2009 while rehabbing.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 11/23, 12:11 PM CT
The Mets have Freddy Garcia on their radar, and have checked in on him, according to NYBaseballDigest.com.

Our View: The Mets could likely sign him for a favorable salary, making him a cheap option to fill their fifth spot in the rotation. He fared well with Detroit in 2008 with a solid 1.13 WHIP over 15 innings (three starts).
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 11/11, 8:06 PM CT
Freddy Garcia felt some tightness in his neck and shoulder in his final start with the Tigers, but he is feeling better and is expected to begin pitching in the Venezuelan winter league soon, according to Yahoo! Sports' Tim Brown.

Our View: Garcia pitched respectably for the Tigers in September and will get a chance to start for someone in '09.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 10/30, 7:53 PM CT
Tigers pitcher Freddy Garcia pitched in three games for the Tigers on 2008 and now he has filed for free-agency, according to Tigers.com.

Our View: In Garcia's short stint as a Tiger he had an ERA of 4.20. It will be interesting to see what the market for the pitcher will be.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 10/10, 1:59 PM CT
Tigers pitcher Freddy Garcia left his last start of the season due to shoulder stiffness, but he will attempt to get things worked out and pitch in winter ball in Venezuela in anticipation of next season, according to Tigers.com.

Our View: Garcia will gradually work up his pitch count in order to be fully ready for spring training. He will be a free agent next year unless the Tigers sign him before the end of the World Series - which is not going to happen.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxMonday 9/29, 7:16 PM CT
The AP reports that Freddy Garcia was forced to leave Monday’s makeup game against the Chicago White Sox in the sixth inning because of a stiff right shoulder. He allowed just two hits into the sixth inning.

Our View: No word on how serious the injury is but Garcia should be expected to be ready to go by spring training.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 9/25, 5:36 PM CT
The AP reports that if the Tigers have to go to Chicago on Monday to make up a rainout against the White Sox, they would start former Chicago pitcher Freddy Garcia. The game would be played only if needed to decide the AL Central race between Minnesota and Chicago.

Our View: Garcia has made two starts, lasting five innings in each appearance. He is 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA. He played for the White Sox when they won the World Series earlier in the decade.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 9/23, 8:28 PM CT
Freddy Garcia surrendered five runs in five innings while striking out six in the Tigers 5-0 loss to the Kansas City Royals.

Our View: Garcia gave up three home runs, and saw his record go to 1-1, as he builds up his resume for next season.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 9/19, 10:17 AM CT
Freddy Garcia is hinting that he would like to remain with the Tigers beyond this season, according to the Detroit Free Press. He said, "I like the guys here. I like the manager and pitching coach and staff. They want to win. They will win at some point."

Our View: Manager Jim Leyland was very pleased, and admittedly shocked, with his first start as he hurled five scoreless innings against Texas. The 33-year-old could get his wish to stay in Detroit if he remains solid in his next outing.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 9/17, 10:55 PM CT
Freddy Garcia pitched five innings to win in his first game since June 2007. He allowed an unearned run and two hits while striking out three, walking one and throwing only 59 pitches. The Tigers offense provided plenty of run support as they wallopped the Rangers 17-4.

Our View: It was as good a return as anyone had hoped for. Monitor his starts the rest of the way as the 33-year-old could be a factor in 2009.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 9/9, 6:55 PM CT
Freddy Garcia will start for the Tigers when they travel to Texas and face the Rangers next Wednesday (Sept. 17), MLB.com reports. He hasn't pitched in the majors since June 8, 2007 due to shoulder surgery.

Our View: Garcia has pitched well in his minor league work, but we're not expecting much when he moves up to the majors. He'll be a free agent this winter, and the Tigers may look to re-sign him if he shows decent stuff over the final two weeks.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 9/9, 9:45 AM CT
Freddy Garcia threw between 75 and 80 pitches in a simulated game Monday, according to MLive.com. Manager Jim Leyland noted that GM Dave Dombrowski will determine if Garcia is ready to pitch in a regular game. Garcia's fastball was in the 85-87 mph range, which is where it was when he went 17-9 for the 2006 White Sox. He had rotator cuff and labrum surgery on his right shoulder one year ago, and when asked how he feels now compared to 2006, he responded, "Better and stronger. It's my fourth time pitching and I can go 80 pitches. If I have to go slow, I will go slow. If I don't pitch, I don't pitch. But it would be nice if I pitched. If not, I will just keep working."

Our View: Garcia could join the Tigers' rotation by the end of the season, but will only merit fantasy consideration in deeper AL-only leagues.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 9/3, 10:25 AM CT
Freddy Garcia threw 52 pitches in a simulated game Tuesday at Comerica Park, according to the Detroit News. Garcia threw in the mid-80's and manager Jim Leyland said, "Freddy was about exactly as I expected. He's way ahead of schedule for what he had done to him. If we're going out there expecting to see him throw 90, we're wasting our time. That's not going to happen. But he went 4-0 against us two years ago throwing 85. This guy knows what he's doing. The good thing is that I saw no restrictions with his arm."

Our View: Garcia is scheduled for another simulated game Monday, and could join the Tigers' rotation at some point before the end of the regular season, barring a setback.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 8/29, 9:26 AM CT
Freddy Garcia threw for the Tigers Triple-A Toledo team, and hurled three shutout innings, striking out four along the way, according to the Detroit Free-Press. 25 of his 32 pitches went for strikes.

Our View: Garcia could make his way to the big leagues soon, as the Tigers have a hole in their rotation that needs filling. It's difficult to recommend him for fantasy teams right now, but monitor his progress.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 8/28, 11:34 AM CT
If Freddy Garcia is going to pitch in the major leagues this year with the Tigers, tonight could go a long way. Garcia will start for the Toledo Mud Hens, the Tigers' Triple-A club. The Detroit Free Press reports that manager Jimmy Leyland will travel to watch Garcia in person.

Our View: Garcia is trying to come back from a shoulder injury that has sidelined him for over a year. The Tigers are still having internal discussions on whether to bring back Garcia up to the big leagues.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 8/24, 2:28 PM CT
Freddy Garcia's road back to the big leagues began Saturday night with two scoreless innings for Class A Lakeland in the Tigers farm system, according to MLB.com. Garcia scattered three singles with a walk and a strikeout in his start for the Flying Tigers on Saturday at Dunedin. All three hits came in his second inning of work, including a bunt single, but he escaped with help from a double play.

Our View: Garcia, a 117-game winner over nine years in the big leagues, signed a Minor League contract with the Tigers a week and a half ago to try to get in some innings before the season ends, possibly in the Majors in September. The deal came with no guarantee that would happen, but the Tigers decided to take a look at him with a chance that he could be in their pitching picture for 2009 if he's healthy.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 8/12, 2:04 PM CT
Freddy Garcia signed with the Tigers today, this according to SI.com. Garcia has not pitched since June of 2007 when he was with the Philadelphia Phillies, and has had his share of injuries. Where he fits into the Tigers rotation has yet to be determined.

Our View: It's obvious that the Tigers have not yet given up on the season. While Garcia wasn't considered one of the top-tiered free agent options -- he came cheap -- and has a reputation as a big game pitcher.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 8/9, 7:52 PM CT
A day after auditioning for about 15 major league clubs in Florida, pitcher Freddy Garcia hopes to make a decision "quickly" on where he will be pitching for the rest of this season, his agent said Wednesday, according to ESPN.com.

Our View: Agent Peter Greenberg told ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick that Garcia would prefer to sign a contract for the rest of 2008, show that he's fully recovered from shoulder surgery, then go on the open market as a free agent in November. Ideally, Garcia would like to pick his destination by the end of the weekend. Garcia, 33, pitched only 58 innings for the Phillies in 2007 before going down with season-ending shoulder surgery. Now that his rehab is almost complete, he's likely to be a popular target for teams that need pitching help and were unable to fill their needs by the trade deadline. The Red Sox, Yankees, Rays, Tigers, Rangers, Mets, Phillies, Astros, Brewers, Cubs, Rockies and Dodgers sent scouts to watch Garcia's workout at the University of Miami on Tuesday. It's believed that representatives from Florida and the White Sox were also on hand for his open audition.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxFriday 8/8, 8:37 PM CT
The Houston Astros are interested in possibly signing Freddy Garcia but they aren't quite ready to offer him a contract, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Garcia came up as part of the Astros organization before he was traded in the Randy Johnson deal 10 years ago. He has spent about a year rehabbing his shoulder, and though he believes he could add something this season, he likely won't be able to make a difference until next season.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 8/7, 12:16 PM CT
The Phillies are not interested in re-signing Freddy Garcia after watching him work out in front of several teams earlier in the week, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Assistant GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said, "He's got a ways to go. For us, I don't think we believe that he's a guy that could help us this year. He threw OK. The feeling is that he's going to come back, but he probably couldn't help us in September."

Our View: Amaro's comments are not encouraging, and Garcia should not be counted on to make a solid impact as a fantasy hurler when he joins a club later this season.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxTuesday 8/5, 5:33 PM CT
Free agent pitcher Freddy Garcia will toss two simulated innings for scouts on Tuesday, the New York Daily News reports. He is nearly one full year removed from surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder. Roughly a dozen teams are expected to check out the performance.

Our View: At the best, Garcia would be signed quickly and make it to the majors in September. Fantasy owners shouldn't count on him to make a quick rise and be able to help their squads in a significant way.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxThursday 7/31, 2:31 PM CT
Teams that are unable to acquire a starter at the deadline might decide to look at free agent Freddy Garcia, who is working his way back from a torn labrum, according to ESPN's Buster Olney. Garcia will likely throw for scouts on August 18-19 with the hope of signing on with a team that wants help over the final month. Garcia's agent, Peter Greenberg, said of the pitcher: "He's excited about where he's at."

Our View: We doubt Garcia can come back and be a big help to someone over the final month, but some team will probably take a chance on him.
Freddy Garcia, P, Chicago White SoxSaturday 7/19, 8:26 AM CT
Ozzie Guillen spent some time with free agent Freddy Garcia over the All-Star break. According to MLB.com, he does not expect him back anytime soon. "When I saw him and where he's at right now, I don't see that happening. I don't think by August, maybe September. Freddy hasn't even thrown off the mound yet. He's throwing flat and he's throwing good and he said his velocity is coming around."

Our View: Hopefully Garcia does not rush back. The once effective pitcher carried a 5.90 ERA thru 11 starts last season.

Freddy Garcia is hoping to audition for teams before the end of July, according to Newsday. He is trying to make a comeback from surgery on his right labrum, and agent Peter Greenberg said, "We're hoping to showcase him, if possible, by the end of July. We think he's going to help somebody in the majors this year, September and October." Greenberg also stated Garcia is likely to sign for just this season, then go on the free-agent market.

Our View: The teams interested are the Mets, Yankees, Astros, Rangers, Royals, Phillies, Red Sox, Tigers, and White Sox.

There are reportedly (at least) nine teams interested in free agent hurler Freddy Garcia, according to the NY Post. The teams interested are the Mets, Yankees, Astros, Rangers, Royals, Phillies, Red Sox, Tigers, and White Sox.

Our View: Garcia will begin throwing breaking balls off the mound this week in Miami, and as long as he avoids setbacks the plan is to schedule a showcase for teams to judge his abilities.

MLB.com reports that Freddy Garcia is expected to be 100 percent healthy in two weeks and will pitch a showcase session for interested teams, most likely between July 20-24. The Astros, Cardinals, Dodgers, Rays, Red Sox, Tigers, Twins and Yankees are among the teams that are expected to monitor Garcia's session. He would wait until signing with a team before deciding on a timetable for when he would make his first Major League appearance since June 8 of last year.

Our View: Garcia was very ineffective in his 11 starts last season (1-5, 5.90 ERA), but did win a combined 31 games in the two seasons prior to that. Garcia won't make a fantasy impact until the stretch run, if he makes one at all.

Free agent pitcher Freddy Garcia is now on the Astros' radar, according to MLB.com. Team GM Ed Wade said, "I talked to his agent, Peter Greenberg, earlier in the week, and he informed me that Freddy is expected to be ready to throw in front of scouts soon. I let him know that we want to be there."

Our View: Garcia notably came up through the Houston organization before the Astros traded him to Seattle on July 31, 1998, along with Carlos Guillen and John Halama, for ace pitcher Randy Johnson. Garcia has landed on the Astros' radar following Shawn Chacon's release from the club.

With Jeremy Bonderman nursing injury and Dontrelle Willis providing far more questions than answers, the Tigers are reportedly seeking the services of RHP Freddy Garcia , according to the East Valley Tribune.

Our View: Garcia has struggled with the Phillies, going 1-5 in 17 starts last season before underging shoulder surgery last season, but his past performance in the AL Central has the Tigers ready to gamble on his potential. Besides, the team is getting desperate for arms and Garcia can't hurt an already-concerning situation.

Freddy Garcia is on the radar of the Tigers (as previously reported), White Sox, Indians, Mets, Yankees, Red Sox, and Rays, according to Fox Sports.

Our View: Three of those teams are in the AL Central. Garcia is trying to make a comeback from shoulder surgery and could throw for teams in early July. He has a good relationship with Chicago skipper Ozzie Guillen, but is also friends with Detroit's Carlos Guillen.

Freddy Garcia is believed to be on the Tigers' radar, according to the Detroit Free Press. The Tigers have reportedly contacted the free agent hurler's rep, and have stated that they want to add veteran talent to their roster in the middle of this season. Garcia is recovering from shoulder surgery, and hasn't pitched in the majors since last June.

Our View: The Tigers' rotation will be without Jeremy Bonderman and Dontrelle Willis for an indefinite length of time. Garcia has looked strong while throwing from a mound, and is said to be ready to return to the majors around the All-Star break.

Freddy Garcia filed for free agency Wednesday. Garcia was a monumental disappointment with the Phillies, winning just one game and holding a 5.90 ERA in 11 starts before undergoing should surgery in August. He's not expected to be ready to pitch until sometime after the All-Star break, and it certainly seems possible he may not pitch at all next year. The Phillies have already confirmed that they will not bring him back.
