Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersWednesday 12/2, 10:07 AM CT
Orlando Hernandez is slated to play winter ball in Puerto Rico soon, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Our View: The 44-year-old hurler will try to improve his stock with a good showing, but seems unlikely to land a gig as a starting pitcher in the majors in 2010. His best chance would be to work in a bullpen role.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersFriday 7/17, 5:09 PM CT
Updating a previous report, the Rangers have released pitcher Orlando Hernandez, according to MLBlogs.com. Hernandez held a 2.45 ERA in eight relief appearance in Triple-A.

Our View: Hernandez wanted to be called up by Monday, but the team didn't feel confident enough in his ability to make the move. El Duque was pretty solid in his Triple-A stint, but his velocity is down and he doesn't seem likely to make an impact with anyone this season.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersThursday 7/16, 7:49 PM CT
Orlando Hernandez has been told by the Rangers that he will not be recalled on Monday, according to MLBblogs.com.

Our View: He holds a 2.45 ERA over eight relief appearances in the minors, but has not displayed good enough velocity or command to convince the Rangers that he belongs on their pitching staff. He will likely become a free agent.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersFriday 6/26, 12:20 PM CT
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Rangers' pitcher Orlando Hernandez has been working out of the bullpen in Triple-A and the team plans to keep him there. Hernandez has been a starter for the vast majority of his career.

Our View: Looks like El Duque's starting days are over. If he does manage to make it back to the big leagues this season, it will be in a relief role, which means he will have no fantasy value. Don't be shocked if he sees some time with the Rangers, but we would be shocked if he sees any time on anyone's fantasy roster.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersWednesday 6/24, 11:36 AM CT
According to USA Today, the Rangers' Triple-A affiliate has activated 43-year old pitcher Orlando Hernandez.

Our View: El Duque hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2007 and is a long shot to move up from the minors to the Rangers raotation, but you never know. Texas hasn't been "pitching rich" in over a decade and if someone falters or gets hurt and if El Duque pitches well in the minors he may get the call. Still, that's a lot of "ifs".
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersThursday 6/11, 4:01 PM CT
Orlando Hernandez has signed a minor league deal with the Rangers, according to MLBblogs.com.

Our View: The 39-year-old vet will be sent to Triple-A Oklahoma. He hasn't pitched in the majors since 2007, and should continue to be ignored in fantasy leagues.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersWednesday 3/18, 4:42 PM CT
Orlando Hernandez tossed five innings allowing only one run on five hits Wednesday. He struck out three and walked none.

Our View: With more outings like this El Duque could land in the fifth starter spot this season. Right now he's targeted for the bullpen, but don't think the Mets won't bump him up if he looks like the pitcher from 2007.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersSunday 2/15, 1:11 PM CT
Free-agent Orlando Hernandez will likely seek out a team in mid-season and seek out a reliever's role upon his return. He did not pitch in 2008 due to bunion surdgery.

Our View: El Duque posted a nice 3.72 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in 24 starts for the Mets in 2007. We expect that he's still got something left, but he's probably wise to move to the bullpen. He is not a player you would consider drafting, but he could be a nice waiver wire pickup depending on where he signs. He would be an ideal long-reliever for a contender.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersTuesday 11/4, 12:25 PM CT
Orlando Hernandez is working out in Miami to get prepared for the 2009 season, according to Yahoo Sports.

Our View: Hernandez is a free agent, and can likely garner a one year deal if he impresses in the spring. He likely won't have any fantasy value
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersSaturday 8/23, 11:03 AM CT
Orlando Hernandez's career may be over, according to the NY Daily News. He is opting for surgery on his right big toe, which has a bunion. He previously had resisted that procedure because the recovery time could cost him more than a full season.

Our View: The 38-year-old will likely miss the entire 2009 campaign, and his prospects don't look good to return at 40.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersFriday 8/1, 8:18 PM CT
Orlando Hernandez's foot is still bothering him which means he shouldn't be expected back anytime soon, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View: El Duque is still waiting on a specially designed shoe that will hopefully allow him to return to the hill, but counting on anything at all at this point from a guy who has missed the entire season is a stretch.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersFriday 7/18, 9:13 AM CT
Orlando Hernandez is scheduled to visit team doctors in New York after leaving his rehab outing in the first inning Thursday due to pain his right foot, according to Newsday.

Our View: Hernandez has missed the entire season with the Mets due to off-season foot surgery, and this was his third rehab start. Hernandez is not worth waiting for as a fantasy prospect, but we will keep you posted following his visit with the doctors.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersWednesday 7/16, 9:47 PM CT
Orlando Hernandez (strained right foot tendon) will make a rehab start at Double-A Binghamton on Thursday, according to The Star Ledger.

Our View: El Duque could be ready to go by the end of the month, though given that we have waited this far into the season to see him pitch for the Mets, we wouldn't be at all shocked to see his return date pushed back yet again.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersSaturday 7/12, 8:46 AM CT
Orlando Hernandez may have at least two more starts in the minors before being brought back to New York, according to the NY Daily News. He has reverted to his high leg kick, and his fastball was regularly hitting 83-84 mph and topped out at 86 mph last night against Dunedin.

Our View: He could be back after the All-Star break, but the Mets intend to initially use him as a reliever due to the current strength of their rotation.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersSunday 7/6, 4:13 PM CT
According to the New York Daily News, Orlando Hernandez threw four innings of four-hit ball. He gave up one earned run while striking out six.

Our View: This is very good news for the Mets and Hernandez who should return shortly after the All-Star break. He has yet to pitch this season, but could be a valuable second half addition in fantasy leagues. He went 9-5 with a 3.72 ERA over 147.2 innings in 2007. He also contributed 128 strikeouts.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersMonday 6/16, 10:51 AM CT
Orlando Hernandez is nowhere close to returning to the Mets, according to the NY Daily News. He is very slowly recovering from foot surgery.

Our View: He has advanced to pitching off a mound, but the front office does not expect him back with the Mets until about one month after the All-Star break.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersSunday 6/8, 8:18 AM CT
Orlando Hernandez has begun throwing off a mound in Port St. Lucie, according to the NY Daily News. El Duque is coming back from right foot surgery.

Our View: There is no timetable for El Duque's return.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersSaturday 5/17, 8:14 AM CT
GM Omar Minaya commented that Orlando Hernandez's return is still far off, according to the NY Daily News. He hasn't thrown off a mound yet.

Our View: He is slowly recovering from right foot surgery, and there remains no timetable set for him, but Hernandez remains confident he will return to the Mets' rotation.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersTuesday 5/13, 11:15 AM CT
Orlando Hernandez threw without a boot for a second straight day on Monday, and indicated he could be throwing off the mound within a week, according to the NY Post. Hernandez said, "I try to come back in two weeks, three weeks. When I feel good, I'll be back." Hernandez said he expects to start running within the next few days as well.

Our View: There is still no set timetable for him, but Hernandez is confident he will return to the Mets' rotation.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersWednesday 5/7, 3:47 PM CT
Orlando Hernandez has shed the protective boot on his right foot and has been cleared to do some light running, this according to the New York Daily News. Assistant GM John Ricco said El Duque, who visited team doctors in New York on Tuesday, no longer has tenderness with the tendon that was plaguing him.

Our View: There is no current timetable for the return of the veteran right-hander.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersWednesday 4/23, 10:49 AM CT
Orlando Hernandez visited with team doctor Struan Coleman on Tuesday, and he has been instructed to keep his right foot in a boot for another two weeks, according to the NY Daily News. He is recovering from right foot surgery.

Our View: Hernandez is too risky to invest in as a fantasy prospect right now. Let someone else take a chance on him, while you stock your roster with more reliable performers.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersTuesday 4/8, 8:31 PM CT
Orlando Hernandez returned to New York for an MRI Tuesday after experiencing pain in the right foot that bothered him early in spring training and which initially forced him to the disabled list, according to Metsblog.com. It had seemed like El Duque would return soon, but that's obviously up in the air now. We'll let you know what the MRI results are.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersThursday 4/3, 8:41 PM CT
Orlando Hernandez allowed two runs on on three hits while striking out six and walking one in five inning Thursday in a rehab start for Single-A St. Lucie. He also hit a batter and tossed a wild pitch. Adam Rubin of the NY Daily News reports that his source said El Duque had impressive offspeed stuff but that his fastball lacked zip. The righty expects to throw two more minor-league games before being activated. “It’s a little tough, but I think day to day it’s geting better,” he said about the bunion on his right big toe. “I need to throw. I need to work out.” With Pedro Martinez out, the Mets could use El Duque's help. We're not sure how much he'll help your fantasy team, though.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersTuesday 4/1, 6:31 PM CT
Orlando Hernandez expects to make his first rehab start Thursday for the St. Lucie Mets, according to the NY Daily News. He's dealing with a bunion on his right big toe. El Duque is able to be activated from the disabled list on April 13, which means Mike Pelfrey will make at least two starts with the big club. The veteran should be ready to start for the Mets at that point, but we should have a better idea next week.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersSunday 3/30, 8:34 AM CT
The New York Daily News reported on Sunday morning that the Mets are expected to place Orlando Hernandez on the 15-day DL to begin the season. There has been no official announcement but we will have work by mid-afternoon concerning the Mets starting rotation and more. Stay Tuned.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersSunday 3/23, 9:28 PM CT
Orlando Hernandez gave up five runs and four hits in three innings of work Sunday. Hernandez was making his spring debut and as expected, he struggled with his command. The Mets right-hander did have better velocity on his fastball, at least from his simulated game earlier in the week. On Sunday he was clocked at 83-85 mph range -- up from the 78-81 mph in his sim-games. He threw 69 pitches with just 38 strikes.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersSaturday 3/22, 8:29 AM CT
Mets skipper Willie Randolph told the New York Post on Friday he will open the season with a full rotation of five starters, the fifth arm won't be skipped, even though the team has two off days in the first eight days. The fifth spot in the rotation is currently either Mike Pelfrey or Orlando Hernandez . El Duque, who just threw an 80-pitch sim-game, might not be quite ready to take the mound in New York's fifth game of the regular season.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersTuesday 3/18, 2:20 PM CT
According to the New York Daily News, Orlando Hernandez threw a four-inning, 80-pitch simulated game on Tuesday morning and told reporters he was ready to take on live action this Sunday in his Grapefruit debut. El Duque clocked primarily in the 70 mph range, hit 81 mph a couple of pitches. Skipper Willie Randolph insisted gun readings are irrelevant in intrasquad games but if the readings are correct, neither the Mets nor fantasy owners want to depend on Hernandez this season.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersTuesday 3/18, 7:44 AM CT
Orlando Hernandez is scheduled to throw a simulated game in Port St. Lucie today, complete with batters, base runners and defense, according to Matthew Cerrone's Mets Blog. According to the Cerrone, if all goes as planned for El Duque, his next appearance will be an actual spring training game, during which he’ll most likely only pitch an inning or two. Hernandez, along with Moises Alou, are expected to begin the season on the disabled list.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersFriday 3/14, 9:38 AM CT
Orlando Hernandez will not take part in an exhibition game until at least the final week of spring training, according to the New York Daily News. The Mets are bringing him along slowly to keep him healthy for the long haul, but he's on target to start April 12.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersWednesday 3/12, 7:24 PM CT
Orlando Hernandez tested a new delivery in a simulated game Wednesday, according to the AP. El Duque is ditching his customary leg-kick in an effort to to relieve pressure on a troublesome bunion on his right foot. Manager Willie Randolph isn't worried that the new windup might affect Hernandez's ability to deceive hitters. "I think his mystique is his ability to get people out," Randolph said. "The kick didn't really get people out. He does it so early that there isn't a lot of deception to it. It's more about his timing." El Duque was good when healthy last year, but the injury issues make him a risky mixed league play.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersWednesday 3/12, 8:52 AM CT
Orlando Hernandez will throw a simulated game at Tradition Field today, this according to Matthew Cerrone and the Mets Blog. Cerrone notes in his report that "it’s looking more and more, to me, like El Duque, will just stay back at camp when the team begins the season, where he can continue to work and be ready about the time the team first needs a fifth starter around the middle of April." Hernandez is an afterthought in most drafts this March and until he gets healthy he has little fantasy value.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersSaturday 3/1, 9:16 AM CT
Orlando Hernandez attempted to toss a batting practice session Friday, but his troublesome right foot didn't feel comfortable and limited his velocity, according to the New York Daily News. "I'm not worried, but I'm worried," El Duque said. "I have a lot of time still - one month. But now, it's no good. I'm not feeling comfortable on the mound." He had been scheduled for his spring game debut Monday, but he'll try to throw another batting practice, instead. Hernandez has a bunion on his right big toe that won't be removed until after he retires. He also had surgery on the adjacent toe during the offseason, which has left that digit shorter. Clearly, his ability to push off the rubber and stay on the mound will be ongoing concerns.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersThursday 2/28, 1:40 PM CT
Orlando Hernandez is expected to make his Grapefruit League debut Monday against the Braves, this according to the NY Daily News. Hernandez has more than one medical issue and keeping the 41-year old healthy is the teams primary concern.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersMonday 2/25, 4:08 PM CT
The Mets would reportedly like to sign free agent Kyle Lohse, and much of the reason has to do with the injuries to veteran Orlando Hernandez. The SI.com report notes that currently El Duque is hurting from head to toe. It was recently discovered that Hernandez didn't actually have the bunion removed from his foot that impeded him last year, and that he is due for a root canal, as well. Hernandez, who's listed as 41-years-old, will be slowed this spring by his long list of ailments, and has little to no fantasy value unless he's included in the team's starting rotation.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersTuesday 10/30, 11:09 AM CT
The Mets are expected to pursue a starter this offseason, and if they land one, Orlando Hernandez could be moved to the bullpen, according to the New York Post. The move would seem to make sense, as the Mets' bullpen really struggled last year and El Duque could stand a better chance at staying healthy.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersFriday 10/19, 10:01 PM CT
Mets pitcher Orlando Hernandez had surgery on his right foot on Friday, getting a bunion removed from his second toe. The ailing foot kept El Duque out of many of his starts during the tail end of the season, and the Mets rotation seemed to collapse without his presence. Hernandez should be ready to play when spring training begins.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersThursday 9/27, 11:40 AM CT
Orlando Hernandez returned to the mound last night after missing over two weeks with a foot injury. He pitched a scoreless inning in relief, allowing two walks while striking out two. "I feel good," Hernandez said in the New York Post. "A little sore, but I can throw every pitch." When asked if El Duque would remain in the bullpen for the playoffs or go back in the rotation, manager Willie Randolph responded, "He's in the bullpen right now."
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersWednesday 9/26, 11:16 AM CT
Orlando Hernandez reported no pain in his right foot after throwing a bullpen session Tuesday. El Duque will pitch a simulated game tomorrow. While that means it is unlikely he'll start another game during the regular season, he is optimistic that he'll be part of the Mets' rotation should they reach the playoffs. "Today I feel happier than yesterday," Hernandez said in the New York Post. "I threw very well today."
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersTuesday 9/25, 11:12 AM CT
Orlando Hernandez shed the protective boot off his ailing right foot and threw some off flat ground before Monday's game. If he feels good today, El Duque plans to throw a bullpen session. It's not clear what the next step is after that. "I'm going day to day," Hernandez said in the New York Post. Manager Willie Randolph said he'd like to see Hernandez pitch in a game before making any postseason decisions. "I would think so," Randolph said. "You want to go into the end of the season having a better feel for everyone and where everybody fits in."
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersSunday 9/23, 7:48 AM CT
The Mets had hoped that Orlando Hernandez would be ready to take the mound for Wednesday's game, but that won't be the case. His foot injury will keep him from starting that contest, according to the New York Daily News. The club still is holding out hope that he will be available in the postseason.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersWednesday 9/19, 10:52 AM CT
Orlando Hernandez will have to wear a boot on his ailing foot for between a week and a week-and-a-half. That makes it unlikely he'll return before the end of the regular season, and it's possible his readiness for the playoffs could be jeopardized, according to the New York Post. El Duque has a sore tendon in his right foot and is also dealing with a bunion on the foot. "I feel the same," Hernandez said. "I'm not feeling good. I'm not happy."
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersTuesday 9/18, 11:02 AM CT
Not only is Orlando Hernandez dealing with a sore tendon in his right foot, but now the more pressing issue apparently is a bunion that he has developed on the foot. GM Omar Minaya said that El Duque is day-to-day, and he said he isn't sure when the right-hander will pitch again, according to the New York Post. Minaya also revealed that the foot has actually has bothered Hernandez the entire season.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersSunday 9/16, 12:48 PM CT
Orlando Hernandez will miss his scheduled start on Monday because of pain in his right foot. "He's still a little sore. We're not going to push it," Mets manager Willie Randolph said in the AP. "Hopefully we'll be able to slot him in sometime soon." Brian Lawrence will start in place of Hernandez.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersThursday 9/13, 11:30 AM CT
The foot injury that caused Orlando Hernandez to miss a start last week is flaring up again, though El Duque says the pain isn't as bad as it was before. Hernandez didn't blame the foot for his poor showing the last time out, but it's pretty clear it affected him. Manager Willie Randolph said El Duque will take his next turn in the rotation, which will either be next Monday or Tuesday, according to the New York Post.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersWednesday 9/12, 11:17 AM CT
Orlando Hernandez is not blaming his foot for his poor outing last night. In his first start since injuring a tendon in his right foot, El Duque gave up eight runs over three innings of work. "It feels OK," Hernandez told the New York Post of his foot. "Wait for tomorrow, but today it's OK." Said manager Willie Randolph, "He's fine. Just didn't hit his location tonight."
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersSunday 9/9, 12:14 AM CT
Orlando Hernandez, who has been dealing with a sore tendon in his right foot, is scheduled to start on Tuesday against the Braves, according to the AP. This could change if El Duque encounters a setback between now and then, so be sure to check back for more info before putting him back into your lineup.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersThursday 9/6, 10:43 AM CT
Orlando Hernandez threw a bullpen session on Wednesday and reported no problems with the sore tendon in his right foot. “I feel better,” he tells the New York Post. “No pain... I think I'm ready for my next start." Hernandez will throw another session on Friday or Saturday and start sometime next week.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersTuesday 9/4, 12:12 PM CT
Orlando Hernandez will not make his scheduled start on Wednesday. He is dealing with a sore tendon in his right foot. Hernandez is expected to start next week, the New York Post reports. John Maine will start on Wednesday, and Mike Pelfrey will take the hill on Friday.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersSunday 9/2, 10:14 PM CT
Orlando Hernandez dealing with a sore tendon in his right foot, threw in the bullpen before Sunday's game. He got a cortisone shot in the foot over the weekend. El Duque could return to the rotation as early as Wednesday, according to the AP. John Maine would be pushed back a day if Hernandez comes back then.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersFriday 8/31, 11:16 PM CT
Orlando Hernandez returned to New York with a sore tendon in his right foot following Thursday night's game in Philadelphia, according to the AP. Hernandez pitched three innings in his shortest outing of the season and could be skipped in the rotation if Pedro Martinez is able to make his first start on Monday.

Our View: Considering how the Mets have squandered their division lead, they will need Hernandez to return quickly in addition to Pedro's return.
Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersFriday 7/13, 11:24 AM CT
Orlando Hernandez worked six strong innings against the Reds Thursday, allowing three hits and two runs over six innings. He walked three and struck out seven. El Duque also had a hit and a stolen base on offense.

Orlando Hernandez will start Friday's game for the Mets. He's been on the disabled list due to bursitis in his right shoulder, but the Mets will activate him prior to Friday's game, according to the AP. "He feels good and it's great to have him back," said manager Willie Randolph. El Duque posted a 2.53 ERA and 1.09 WHIP before being sidelined by his injury. Get him back in your lineups and hope he can stay healthy and on top of his game.

Orlando Hernandez, P, Texas RangersSunday 3/18, 6:59 PM CT
Orlando Hernandez had to leave Sunday's start in the fourth inning after getting a cramp in his right hamstring after reaching base on a bunt, according to the AP. I'm feeling good. I threw every pitch."
