Brian Shouse, P, Tampa Bay RaysTuesday 11/17, 5:44 PM CT
Brian Shouse filed for free agency on Tuesday, according to the Sports Network.

Our View: The 41-year-old lefty held a 4.50 ERA over 45 relief appearances with Tampa Bay in 2009. He could find work with a club looking for veteran depth in their bullpen.

The St. Petersburg Times is reporting that the Rays have activated relief pitcher Brian Shouse from the DL. Shouse has been sidelined since May with a left elbow strain.

Our View: Shouse will be a nice upgrade for the Rays' bullpen, as he has a 3.77 ERA in 19 appearances before the injury. His rehab stint went well, so look for the Rays to go to him regularly as the season goes on.

The Tampa Tribune is reporting that Rays' reliever Brian Shouse is expected to rejoin the team on Monday after finishing his rehab assignment over the weekend. Shouse is nearly recovered from a left elbow strain that has kept him on the DL since May.

Our View: Shouse has looked good in his rehab stint so far, and the team will welcome him back on Monday when he is ready to go. Shouse will be the third lefty in the bullpen, joining J.P. Howell and Randy Choate, so he will probably be somewhat limited in duty for the rest of the season.

Rays reliever Brian Shouse pitched a scoreless ninth inning for Single-A Charlotte on Thursday, according to MiLB.com. Shouse is on a rehab assignment while recovering from a left elbow strain.

Our View: Shouse has thrown three innings for the Single-A club so far, and he has given up one run and struck out two. He looks to be recovering well, and he could be back with the Rays sometime in August if everything goes well. His fantasy value will be limited upon his return to the team, but he should be a nice addition to the Tampa bullpen for the stretch run.

Brian Shouse threw a 32-pitch simulated game on Friday , according to the St. Petersburg Times.

Our View: He is scheduled to throw a simulated game Monday, and could start a rehab assignment soon after. The 40-year-old Shouse hasn't pitched since May 24. He is about a month away from returning, but won't be a great option in leagues with middle relievers once he is back.
Brian Shouse, P, Tampa Bay RaysSaturday 6/13, 10:26 AM CT
According to the St. Petersburg Times, Rays' reliever Brian Shouse has been cleared to resume playing catch. Shouse has been out since May with a left elbow strain.

Our View: Shouse's rehab appears to be on schedule, but it looks like he will still be out for a good amount of time. The fact that he has been cleared to throw is a good start, but he still has a long way to go before he will be ready to rejoin the bullpen.
Brian Shouse, P, Tampa Bay RaysTuesday 5/26, 5:08 PM CT
The St. Petersburg Times is reporting that Brian Shouse has a slight tear in his flexor muscle. He is expected to be out for a while, but he should not need surgery.

Our View: This is kind of a good news/bad news situation for Shouse and the Rays. He should miss a good chunk of time, but anytime a pitcher can avoid surgery on his elbow it is a good thing. The timetable for his return is unknown at this point.
Brian Shouse, P, Tampa Bay RaysMonday 5/25, 3:54 PM CT
Brian Shouse has been placed on the 15-day DL by the Rays with a strained left elbow, according to TSN.

Our View: Shouse holds a 3.77 ERA over 14.1 innings of relief, with nine strikeouts and three walks. The lefty specialist won't be missed in fantasy leagues while on the shelf.
Brian Shouse, P, Tampa Bay RaysThursday 2/12, 5:55 PM CT
Brian Shouse signed a one-year, $1.35 million dollar deal with the Rays on Thursday, according to the St. Petersburg Times. The Rays designated Juan Salas for assignment to make room for Shouse on the 40-man roster.

Our View: Shouse made 69 appearances for the Brewers last year, throwing just 51.1 innings with a 5-1 record. Shouse is really nothing more than a specialist at this point.
Brian Shouse, P, Tampa Bay RaysTuesday 2/10, 5:48 PM CT
The St. Petersburg Times reports that reliever Brian Shouse's deal with the Tampa Bay Rays is "pretty official." The length of the deal is one year plus an option for a second, but salary figures won't be released until Wednesday.

Our View: Whenever the Shouse deal, which was originally signed 10 days ago, does become completely official, the Rays will be forced to make a move to clear room for the reliever on the team's 40-man roster.

Updating a previous note, ESPN.com reports that the Tampa Bay Rays have inked left-handed reliever Brian Shouse to a two-year deal, pending a physical.

Our View: Sure, Shouse is 40, but he has been a steady arm over the past three seasons for Texas and Milwaukee. He doesn't hold much fantasy value, but he could be in line to pick up some holds for the Rays.

Left-handed reliever Brian Shouse is being targeted by the Tampa Bay Rays, reports FoxSports.com.

Our View: Shouse was excellent for the Brewers last season in his job of stymieing left-handed batters, holding them to a .180 batting average.
Brian Shouse, P, Tampa Bay RaysThursday 1/29, 9:46 AM CT
The Athletics are believed to be interested in Brian Shouse, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Our View: Shouse held a solid 1.17 WHIP over 51.1 innings with the Brewers in 2008, and would be a nice addition to the Athletics' pen after cutting Andrew Brown, who is set to undergo shoulder surgery.
Brian Shouse, P, Tampa Bay RaysSunday 12/7, 11:23 PM CT
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that Brian Shouse has declined the Brewers' arbitration offer, so if he signs with another club, the Brewers will get one compensation pick between the first and second rounds because he is a Class B free agent.

Our View: The Brewers can still negotiate with Shouse but he has been looking for a two-year deal and they don't want to go beyond one year. Shouse, 40, was 5-1 with a 2.81 ERA in 69 appearances with the Brewers last year.
Brian Shouse, P, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 11/26, 9:35 AM CT
Brian Shouse covets a two-year deal, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Our View: The Brewers would like to retain the 40-year-old reliever, but only want to commit to a one-year deal. It was previously stated that the Rockies are interested in Shouse, who held a solid 1.17 WHIP over 51.1 innings in 2008.
Brian Shouse, P, Tampa Bay RaysTuesday 11/25, 11:07 AM CT
The Rockies are interested in reliever Brian Shouse, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: The lefty held a solid 1.17 WHIP over 51.1 innings with Milwaukee in 2008 and only gave up five homers, which would bode well for him while playing his home games at Coors Field.
Brian Shouse, P, Tampa Bay RaysSunday 5/11, 4:56 PM CT
The Milwaukee Brewers' showcased their new closer by committee in a 5-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday. With Eric Gagne out as the closer, the Brewers turned to Salomon Torres and Brian Shouse in the ninth. Torres allowed a leadoff double and a walk before giving way to Shouse with two outs. Shouse, a left-handed specialist, gave up an RBI single to Yadier Molina before finishing for his first save and fifth of his career.

Our View: Torres figures to get more opportunities due to his previous closer experience but he is a hit and miss option for fantasy owners.

The Brewers re-signed Brian Shouse to a one-year contract Tuesday worth $975,000, according to the AP. Shouse went 1-3 with a 3.99 ERA in 65 games with the Rangers and Brewers in 2006.
