Alex Sanchez went 0-for-1 at the plate on Thursday, but he swiped his fifth base of the spring. Typically a very bad basestealer, he's been caught stealing just once this spring. Sanchez is competing with Eric Reed for the starting job in center field, although he's not helping his case with his .214 (6-for-28) batting average.

Alex Sanchez went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and a run scored on Thursday against the Orioles. He's competing for the starting job in center field, and he could be a cheap source of speed if he comes away with the job.

Marlins GM Larry Beinfest believes Alex Sanchez has a realistic shot at winning the starting center field job this spring, according to the Miami Herald. "He's had a lot of success in the big leagues," he said. "We like his speed. He can bunt. He can do a lot of things that put pressure on people." Sanchez, an awful defender, was released by the Reds last June after hitting .251 in 203 at-bats between Double- and Triple-A.
