The Reds signed Kerry Ligtenberg to a minor-league deal Wednesday, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. "We're bringing him in to compete," Reds general manager Wayne Krivsky said. "He throws strikes. He's been durable. He's been a part of winning teams. We'll wait and see." It's not out of the question that Ligtenberg, a former closer with the Braves, could work himself into a few saves situations at some point. He spent all of the 2006 season with Iowa, the Cubs' Triple-A affiliate, where he held a 3.57 ERA and recorded 18 saves in 53 games.
