Sean Casey, 1B, Boston Red SoxSaturday 1/24, 11:24 PM CT
Sean Casey has signed on with the MLB Network making his retirement official, according to WEEI.

Our View: Casey was a solid major league player, finishing his career with a .302 batting average and appearing in three all-star games. He played the majority of his 12-year career with the Reds, but also spent time with the Pirates, Tigers, and Red Sox over the past three seasons. His best year was 1999, when he batted .332 with 25 home runs and 99 RBI that season, all of which were career highs. He put up similar numbers in 2004, with a .324 batting mark, 24 home runs, and 99 RBI but had a severe drop off the next year and never regained his power stroke after that season.

According to Hal McCoy of the Dayton Daily News, first baseman Sean Casey is likely to retire.

Our View: Casey was a long-time Red, hence McCoy's perceived knowledge of the situation. He did well in a part-time role with Boston last season, hitting .322, but he has no power whatsoever, and failed to hit a single home run last season.

Sean Casey, 1B, Boston Red SoxThursday 9/4, 8:58 AM CT
Sean Casey's neck ailment is improving, and he may be able to return to the Red Sox on Friday, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Casey has been taking fielding and batting practice, and if there are no setbacks, he'll be ready soon. Fantasy owners will not get a whole lot out of him, however, as in 165 at-bats, he has no home runs and just 12 RBI, despite his .345 average.

Sean Casey is getting a rare start at DH tonight. He is batting .371 in 116 at-bats this season.

"It's lingered," manager Terry Francona said. "It's one of those things where if somebody says something hurts, you can't sit there and tell them it doesn't.

Our View: Casey has just four AB in the last 14 Sox games, rendering him as completely useless even in AL only leagues of late. When a guy is hitting .358 in 106 AB, you would think his team would find a way to get him a few more AB.
