Henry Blanco, C, New York MetsThursday 12/3, 5:54 PM CT
Henry Blanco has agreed to a one-year deal with the Mets worth $1.5MM, according to Bart Hubbuch's (New York Post) twitter page.

Our View: The 38-year-old will compete for the primary backup role at catcher for 2010, and will hold little fantasy value in New York. He should help the club defensively though, as he has been good at throwing down opposing base-stealers.
Henry Blanco, C, New York MetsTuesday 11/17, 6:05 PM CT
The White Sox are among the teams interested in Henry Blanco, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: The 38-year-old catcher is desirable for his defensive skills, as he has gunned down 43 percent of would-be base stealers over his career.

Henry Blanco went 1-for-4 with a solo homer off Dan Runzler in Friday's 7-2 loss to the Giants at Petco Park.

Our View: Blanco has a hit in three of his last four games, and launched his first homer since August 11 (at Milwaukee).
Henry Blanco, C, New York MetsSaturday 9/19, 2:58 PM CT
Henry Blanco hit a game-winning sac fly in the top of the ninth inning on Saturday to give the Padres a 2-1 win over the Pirates. Blanco was 0-for-3 on the day.

Our View: There wasn't much offense in this game today, but Blanco's clutch RBI in the ninth was the difference. Blanco is hitting .239 on the season, so no fantasy value here.
Henry Blanco, C, New York MetsTuesday 7/28, 9:49 AM CT
Henry Blanco (strained hamstring) has been activated from the 15-day disabled list.

Our View: Blanco last played on the fourth of July. Along with Eliezer Alfonzo, the 38-year-old catcher is part of a woeful offensive duo behind the backstop for the Pads. He has no value outside of incredibly deep NL-only leagues.
Henry Blanco, C, New York MetsMonday 7/27, 8:05 AM CT
Henry Blanco is nearing a return from the disabled list, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View: He may forgo a minor league rehab assignment, and could be activated sometime this week.
Henry Blanco, C, New York MetsSunday 7/5, 3:01 PM CT
Updating a previous report, MLB.com is reporting that the Padres have placed catcher Henry Blanco on the 15-day DL with a strained right hamstring. In a corresponding move, the team recalled Jose Lobaton from Triple-A Portland.

Our View: Blanco felt his hamstring pop while running to first base on Saturday in the second inning, and it looks like he will miss a decent amount of time. He wasn't much of a fantasy option, and is not worth holding on to if you do have him.
Henry Blanco, C, New York MetsWednesday 3/11, 11:09 PM CT
Henry Blanco was 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored as Venezuela beat the USA 5-3 on Wednesday.

Our View: Blanco is hitting an impressive .800 during the Classic. He is the front runner to be the No. 1 catcher in San Diego this season.
Henry Blanco, C, New York MetsThursday 2/26, 7:48 PM CT
Henry Blanco drove in a pair of runs Thursday as the Padres and Mariners ended in a 4-4 tie.

Our View: Penciled in to split time with the young Nick Hundley behind the plate, Blanco does not produce enough offensively to be considered in fantasy leagues.
Henry Blanco, C, New York MetsWednesday 1/21, 5:53 PM CT
Henry Blanco agreed to a one-year, $750,000 deal with the Padres on Wednesday, according to ESPN.

Our View: The Padres had wanted to sign Brad Ausmus, mentioning him as a primary target earlier on Wednesday. They moved quickly after Ausmus signed with the Dodgers, inking Blanco for their backup catcher just hours later.
Henry Blanco, C, New York MetsWednesday 12/24, 1:40 PM CT
The Marlins have had discussions about bringing in Henry Blanco to be their backup catcher, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: Blanco served as a backup for the Cubs last season due to rookie Geovany Soto's strong play, but was serviceable in his role batting .292 and playing well defensively.
Henry Blanco, C, New York MetsFriday 12/12, 8:44 AM CT
The Orioles inquired about catcher Henry Blanco, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: Blanco is good defensively and hit .292 over 120 at-bats with the Cubs in 2008. The Orioles are looking for a stopgap at the position until Matt Wieters is ready to take over as a full-time starter.
Henry Blanco, C, New York MetsTuesday 12/9, 4:11 PM CT
The Rockies have had internal discussions about Henry Blanco, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: It is unclear if the Rockies would have to move current starter Yorvit Torrealba before signing Blanco.

Henry Blanco's brother has been killed by a gunshot in Venezuela, according to MLB.com. Local police are deeming the case to be a kidnapping/murder. The 39-year-old Carlos Blanco was being held for a ransom reported at 200 million Venezuelan Bolivares. Henry Blanco had been in negotiations with the kidnappers.

Our View: Blanco or the Cubs are yet to comment on the tragic incident.
Henry Blanco, C, New York MetsFriday 10/31, 3:14 PM CT
The Cubs have decided to decline Henry Blanco's $3 million option for 2009, according to the Daily Herald.

Our View: The Cubs will reportedly try to keep him at a lower salary. He would hold little fantasy value while backing up rising star Geovany Soto.
Henry Blanco, C, New York MetsSaturday 5/17, 12:04 PM CT
Manager Lou Piniella said he wants to give Henry Blanco one start per week as the temperatures rise, according to MLB.com. Piniella wants to rest Geovany Soto a little bit more.

Our View: Blanco is 8-for-25 (.320) this season, but is not worth holding up a spot on your roster for just one start per week.
Henry Blanco, C, New York MetsThursday 5/15, 12:57 PM CT
Henry Blanco will start at catcher for the Cubs today, according to the Chicago Tribune. Blanco will catch for starting pitcher Ryan Dempster, and will bat eighth in the Cubs' order.

Our View: Blanco is 7-for-21 in limited action this season, with one RBI. He is not worth fantasy consideration for one start, especially with Greg Maddux pitching today against San Diego.

Henry Blanco, C, New York MetsSunday 7/8, 6:28 AM CT
Henry Blanco will begin throwing from behind the plate Sunday and manager Lou Piniella said he is close to being sent out for a minor-league rehabilitation assignment, the AP reports. Blanco has been on the 15-day disabled list since May 31 because of a cervical herniated disc. The Cubs haven't had any hitting from their catchers since Michael Barrett was traded, something Blanco (.224 career average) isn't likely to fix.

Henry Blanco still can't shake off the pain created by a herniated disc in his neck. He received another cortisone shot on Friday, according to the Chicago Tribune. "He's hurting, and it's going to be a while longer," manager Lou Piniella said. "It's a shame. We thought he was on track for rehab this weekend." At this point, he's out indefinitely, as he won't begin a rehab assignment until the spasms fully dissipate.

Henry Blanco will miss at least the next couple of weeks due to a herniated disc in his neck. The Cubs placed him on the disabled list Friday due to the injury, which could require surgery if the pain fails to go away, according to the Chicago Tribune. Koyie Hill was recalled to replace Blanco as Michael Barrett's backup. Ironically, Blanco was slated to become Victor Zambrano's personal catcher before being sidelined by the neck injury -- Barrett ended up catching Zambrano on Friday, and the two came to blows in the dugout and clubhouse.
Henry Blanco, C, New York MetsMonday 5/28, 6:47 AM CT
Cubs manager Lou Piniella said he's thinking about making Henry Blanco the personal catcher for Victor Zambrano, according to the Daily Southtown. "When I was in Seattle, we used to find who our backup catcher had the most success with, and that's who we gave the assignment to," Piniella said Sunday. "So we could do that. We're going to have to play Henry 20 percent of the time anyway, so if we can give him one pitcher, that's fine, too." That means that if you want to get Blanco's .212 batting average into the mix, you'd know what days of the week to go for it.
Henry Blanco, C, New York MetsWednesday 11/15, 11:52 AM CT
The Cubs re-signed Henry Blanco to a two-year contract on Wednesday, with a mutual option for the 2009, according to the AP. He'll once again serve as Michael Barrett's backup behind the plate.
