Antonio Alfonseca, P, Friday 9/14, 4:51 PM CT
Antonio Alfonseca was suspended for four games Friday, a day after he was ejected for hitting Colorado's Todd Helton with a pitch. Alfonseca was also fined an undisclosed amount, according to the AP. He has appealed the suspension, so he will continue to pitch until the appeal is heard.

Antonio Alfonseca struggled again in the ninth inning again Wednesday, allowing two hits and three runs in a messy third of an inning. Alfonseca wasn't saddled with a blown save because the game was actually tied on a hit against Mike Zagurski, but the runs were all charged to Alfonsecva, and this is the third lead he's handed away over his last five opportunities. Look for Brett Myers to get a shot to close again in Philadelphia as soon as he's physically ready.

Antonio Alfonseca upset his manager with Friday's blown save, the AP reports. Alfonseca allowed a two-out homer to Brad Hawpe in the ninth inning, tying the game. "I told him to throw sinkers down and away," Charlie Manuel said. "That means down and away." Alfonseca has now blown two chances in a row after converting the previous five.

Antonio Alfonseca is dealing with a sore left ankle. He walked around the clubhouse after the game with an ice wrap on the ankle, according to the AP. Alfonseca has been closing for the Phillies with Brett Myers and Tom Gordon out, and it's unclear if the ankle injury will affect his availability for the next save chance.
Antonio Alfonseca, P, Saturday 5/26, 8:10 PM CT
Antonio Alfonseca picked up his first save of the year Saturday, working a scoreless inning at Atlanta. He's probably going to be the closer by default in Philadelphia, if he can handle the job, while Brett Myers and Tom Gordon are hurt. Alfonseca's 2007 stats don't inspire a lot of confidence: 4.57 ERA, 1.65 ratio, with nine walks and nine strikeouts over 21 2/3 innings.
Antonio Alfonseca, P, Friday 4/13, 10:01 AM CT
Antonio Alfonseca pitched a scoreless eighth inning Wednesday and will continue to stay in the setup role "for awhile" if he continues to pitch well, manager Charlie Manuel told the Philadelphia Inquirer. Alfonseca holds a 2.08 ERA over his first 4 1/3 innings.

The Phillies agreed to a one-year deal with Antonio Alfonseca on Sunday, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. The contract can reach more than $1.1 million based on incentives. He dealt with elbow issues last year, but the Phillies have seen him pitch well in the Dominican Republic this winter and think he is healthy.
