Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 3/17, 3:56 PM CT
Jason Marquis got obliterated by Houston on Wednesday, giving up eight runs off eight hits and four walks over 3.1 innings.

Our View: Marquis wasn't much better in his other start this spring, when he allowed five runs in two innings. He's still has a completely secure role in Washington's starting rotation, though fantasy owners might be best to avoid him.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 12/22, 2:41 PM CT
The Nationals officially announced their signing of Jason Marquis to a two-year, $15 million deal on Tuesday, according to the team's official site.

Our View: Marquis will transition from one of the game's premier hitter's parks to a team that is unlikely to provide him much offensive support, and thus his fantasy value remains pretty much the same. Unfortunately for Marquis, his value was already pretty low in the first place. He will, however, provide value to Washington as a mentor to team's young staff and hopefully make them an at least somewhat-competitive ball club.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsMonday 12/21, 3:38 PM CT
Jason Marquis has indeed signed a two-year, $15 million deal with the Nationals that will be officially announced after he passes a physical, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.

Our View: The Nationals seem to have overpaid based on Marquis' 15 wins last season, and his lack of strikeouts coupled with his ever-mediocre ERA and WHIP marks will never endear him to fantasy owners. Still, he is a viable and high-character MLB starter who should serve as a nice mentor to Stephen Strasburg, Jordan Zimmermann and the rest of Washington's young core of arms.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsMonday 12/21, 1:56 PM CT
The Nationals have a deal in place to sign free agent Jason Marquis, according to MASN.

Our View: A number of teams had expressed interest in Marquis, making it somewhat surprising that the Nationals were able to win out and claim his services. Details of the signing have yet to surface, but we'll be sure to bring them to you as they leak.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsFriday 12/11, 3:15 PM CT
The Mariners are the latest team to express interest in free agent starter Jason Marquis, according to Fox Sports.

Our View: The Orioles, Nationals and Phillies are also all said to be interested, as well. Marquis is a career National League player, but has expressed no public desire to remain in the senior circuit.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 12/9, 5:20 PM CT
According to Jon Morosi on Twitter, the Mets, Nationals and Phillies are showing interest in free agent right-hander Jason Marquis.

Our View: The Mets and Nats have shown previous interest, but the Phillies are new to the list. Marquis is looking for a multi-year deal and a bump in salary over the $9.875 he made last season. While he's coming off one of his best seasons as a pro and had an All Star first half, he crumbled down the stretch. That sould be known when looking at his 15-13 record, 4.04 ERA and 1.38 WHIP from 2009.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 12/8, 9:00 AM CT
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has spoken to representatives for Jason Marquis, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Marquis won 15 games for the Rockies last season and could certainly top that number if he was with the Yankees, although his ERA and WHIP would probably suffer pitching in such a hitter's park. Stay tuned to where Marquis ends up signing, because it could predicate whether or not he has fantasy value next season.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 12/8, 12:13 AM CT
Jason Marquis has declined the Colorado Rockies' offer of arbitraton, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The 2009 All Star is fishing for a multi-year deal on the open market. Considering every team he has ever pitched for has made the playoffs, he and his lifetime ERA of 4.48 wouldn't be the worst signing. A pitcher's ballpark would be preferable for fantasy owners, however.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsThursday 12/3, 10:27 AM CT
Jason Marquis is not expected to return to the Rockies in 2010, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated.

Our View: He is apparently poised to turn down the team's arbitration offer due to bitterness over the club not giving him a start during their NLDS tilt with the Phillies last October. He has been reported before to be very interested in joining the Mets.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsThursday 10/15, 6:08 PM CT
After winning 15 games for the Rockies in 2009, Jason Marquis has apparently told former teammates that his offseason goal is to sign with the New York Mets, according to InsideTheRockies.com.

Our View: This would seriously jeopardize Marquis' personal ten-year streak of pitching for playoff teams, but likely make the most sense financially. As a groundball pitcher, he should also fit in well in spacious Citi Field. Lastly, the Mets have expressed a desire for durable pitchers after their embarrassing 2009 injury woes, something Marquis has proven to be. As they say, where there's smoke, there's fire. Expect this to get done.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSunday 10/11, 9:00 AM CT
The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that Rockies' starting pitcher Jason Marquis will remain in the bullpen for the remainder of the series. Marquis could have started Game 4, but Game 1 starter Uboldo Jimenez will come back instead.

Our View: We predicted Marquis' late-season meltdown for months, and now it is costing him in the postseason. The Rockies don't feel comfortable throwing him out there they was he has been going as of late, so the 2009 All-Star will continue to watch from the pen.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSunday 10/4, 8:23 PM CT
Jason Marquis finished the regular season with a four-inning performance where he allowed four runs on eight hits and two walks. He fell to 15-13 after a 5-3 loss to the Dodgers.

Our View: Marquis looked like the Rockies best pitcher in the first half with 11 wins and a 3.65 ERA, but he imploded after the break going just 4-7 with an ERA nearly a full run higher. The way he finished down the stretch could keep him off the Rockies postseason roster.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 9/29, 11:32 PM CT
Jason Marquis allowed just two runs on six hits and four walks over six innings on Tuesday, but did not factor in the decision as the Rockies topped the Brewers in extra innings.

Our View: Marquis notched just his second quality start this month and is in danger of being left off the Rockies postseason roster. He's struggled mightily since the All Star break.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 9/29, 1:03 PM CT
15-game winner Jason Marquis could be left out of Colorado's postseason rotation should they win the National League wild card, according to Fox Sports.

Our View: Marquis is just 1-4 with a 5.48 ERA in his past seven starts, and has really faded since being named an All Star. As long as Aaron Cook stays healthy, there's a good chance he will be relegated to the bullpen for the postseason.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 9/23, 11:15 PM CT
Jason Marquis was ineffective en route to his 12th loss on Wednesday. The sinker-baller walked five batters in just 4.2 innings, while allowing six runs, as the Rockies lost 6-3 to the Padres at home.

Our View: Marquis has really faded since his hot start, going just 4-6 with a 4.46 ERA in 13 starts since the All-Star break.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSunday 9/13, 7:13 PM CT
Jason Marquis was not sharp on Sunday, as he allowed five runs on eight hits and four walks to the light-hitting Padres over just 5.2 innings. He was handed his 11th loss of the season as the Rockies fell 7-3.

Our View: Marquis now has just one quality start in his last four outings. In the other three he allowed five runs in each and his season ERA is up to 3.78 as a result.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 9/8, 10:19 PM CT
Jason Marquis pitched 7.1 dominant innings on Tuesday night, helping the Rockies dispatch the Reds 3-1 at home.

Our View: Marquis is now 15-10 on the season, his most wins since he went 15-7 for the pennant winning St. Louis Cardinals in 2004.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsThursday 9/3, 5:52 PM CT
Jason Marquis was hit with his 10th loss of the season on Thursday as the Rockies fell to the Mets 8-3. Marquis went five innings and allowed five runs on nine hits while walking two and striking out two.

Our View: Marquis still has 14 wins this season, but he has struggled late in the season in his career. The Rockies need Marquis to pitch like he has all season if they are going to keep pace in the Wild Card race.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 8/29, 11:02 PM CT
Jason Marquis' five runs in six innings were his most allowed in four starts, as he fell to 14-9 in the Rockies' 5-3 loss in San Francisco.

Our View: The loss kept Marquis stuck one win behind his 2004 career high of 15 for the Cardinals.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 8/19, 9:59 PM CT
Jason Marquis picked up another win on Wednesday as the Rockies held off the Nationals by a score of 5-4. Marquis went six innings and allowed three runs on nine hits while walking one and striking out one.

Our View: Marquis continues to pick up wins, and it looks like his history of second-half scuffling is not holding true this season. Marquis has convinced us, and with the Rockies continuing to stay hot, he should be a very good play for the rest of the season.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsThursday 8/13, 5:06 PM CT
Jason Marquis was sterling in picking up his 13th win on Thursday. The sinkerball throwing righty allowed just three Pirates hits (and one run) in seven innings, as the Rockies cruised to a 10-1 victory at home.

Our View: Marquis had allowed fewer than three runs just once in his previous five starts coming into Thursday, much more indicative of the kind of pitcher he has been over his career (as opposed to the stifling league leader in wins he was earlier in 2009).
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSunday 8/9, 12:00 AM CT
Jason Marquis did not have his best stuff on Saturday. The Rockies' hurler allowed five runs on eight hits and five walks over six innings in a 6-5 loss to the Cubs.

Our View: Marquis was stuck with his eighth loss and the outing broke a string of six straight quality starts. He's still having a surprisingly brilliant 2009 campaign though. Continue to start him in all formats.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 7/28, 10:20 PM CT
Jason Marquis was solid again on Tuesday, but his offense couldn't help him out as the Rokies fell to the Mets 4-0. Marquis went six innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits while walking one and striking out three.

Our View: Marquis wasn't dominating tonight, but he was probably good enough to get a win most nights. He has shown no signs of slowing down after an All-Star caliber first half, but fantasy owners should still be a little cautious based on his career second half numbers. For now, he should still be viewed as the same guy that made the All-Star team for the National League.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 7/22, 12:38 PM CT
According to the Denver Post, Jason Marquis start has been pushed back once again. He will now take his turn next Tuesday.

Our View: He was slated to pitch against Matt Cain on Friday, but because of a blister on his pitching hand that has not yet healed he will be held back until Tuesday. Assuming that's enough time for it to heal, he will face the Mets in New York.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsMonday 7/20, 8:21 PM CT
Jason Marquis' next turn in the rotation has been moved to Friday, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: The Rockies moved him to Friday to keep him on a regular four-days rest. He swaps starts with Jason Hammel, who will now take the hill Saturday against the Giants. Marquis has been dealing with a blister on the middle finger of his throwing hand, but pitching coach Bob Apodaca expects him to be fine.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSunday 7/19, 7:27 PM CT
Jason Marquis didn't miss a beat over the All-Star break as he picked up his 12th win of the season against the Padres on Sunday. Marquis went eight innings and allowed one run on five hits while striking out three and not walking a batter.

Our View: Marquis was an All-Star for a reason, and his 12 wins are even more impressive considering he pitches for the Rockies. Owners should keep in mind that Marquis has notoriously been a weak second half performer, but he looked solid today in his first start after the break.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsThursday 7/16, 10:18 AM CT
Jason Marquis is not scheduled to pitch again for the Rockies until Sunday, according to MLB.com. After his selection to the All-Star team, the Rockies want him to pitch on full rest to start the second half.

Our View: The Rockies don't want to do anything that could mess up their All-Star starter, so this is just the team playing it safe. Marquis owners should make sure he is in the lineup on Sunday, as he will be fully rested and ready to go. You may also want to consider shopping Marquis while his trade value is high, as he has been a significantly better first-half performer in his career.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 7/11, 11:16 PM CT
Jason Marquis gave up three earned runs on seven hits over six innings in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Braves at Coors Field. He had two walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: He had a decent outing, and was dealt a loss due to poor run support from his teammates. Marquis currently continues to lead the NL with 11 wins, and should remain active in fantasy leagues.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsMonday 7/6, 10:15 PM CT
Jason Marquis became the first pitcher to notch 11 wins, improving to 11-5 on Monday after holding Washington scoreless with seven hits, two walks and three strikeouts over eight innings.

Our View: Marquis now has two-straight gems, though he's been shaky at points this season, and if his track record has taught us anything it's that he'll fall back to mediocrity before too long. Sell high if you can get anyone biting on his league-best win total.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsThursday 6/25, 12:46 AM CT
Jason Marquis was lit up for eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits over 3.1 innings in Wednesday's 11-3 loss at the Angels. He had two walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: Marquis had a disastrous outing, but still co-leads the NL with nine wins, and should bounce back fine. He shall remain penciled into fantasy lineups.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 6/24, 9:22 AM CT
According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Jason Marquis was almost traded to the Phillies before the Rockies recent hot streak began.

Our View: The deal would have reportedly sent Marquis and Ryan Spilborghs to the Phils for J.A. Happ and prospects. The Rockies are 17-2 since June 4, but still could end up selling off players once they come back down to earth.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsFriday 6/19, 11:03 PM CT
Jason Marquis allowed three earned runs on eight hits over 8.2 innings in Friday's 7-3 win over the Pirates at Coors Field. He had three walks and thre strikeouts.

Our View: Marquis has earned a win in five of his last seven starts, and is currently tied for the NL lead with nine wins for the season. He has proven to be a strong acquisition for the Rockies, as well as fantasy owners.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 6/13, 10:59 PM CT
Jason Marquis enjoyed a solid outing as he only allowed one earned run on seven hits over seven innings in Saturday's 5-3 win over Seattle at Coors Field. He had three walks and two strikeouts.

Our View: Marquis had to settle for a no-decision rather than a win as he exited the game tied at 1-1. Fantasy owners should still be pleased with his outing tonight.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsMonday 6/8, 4:01 PM CT
Jason Marquis was solid again for the Rockies on Monday, giving up only two runs in 6.2 innings while striking out four as the Rockies won 5-2 to complete a four game sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Our View: The right-hander has been reborn in the Rocky Mountains, going 8-4 with a 3.98 ERA in a place many pitchers go to die. It is unlikely that he will finish the season with an ERA under four, but he is definitely worth a flier if not already owned, and a solid spot starting option if you're unwilling to take the plunge on a full time roster spot.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsFriday 5/29, 11:37 PM CT
Jason Marquis was brilliant on Friday. He tossed eight shutout innings in Coors Field and allowed six hits and four walks while striking out six. He earned the win and improved to 7-3 as the Rockies blanked the Padres 3-0.

Our View: Marquis has been one of the biggest surprises this season. He owns a 3.93 ERA, a 7-3 record and seven quality starts. When he's been bad this season, hes been very bad, but when he's been on, he's been very good. Who would have thought with him heading to Coors field. Looks like that sinker is working for him.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsMonday 5/18, 8:47 PM CT
Jason Marquis rebounded after a couple of bad starts on Monday as the Rockies downed the Braves 5-1. Marquis went eight innings and allowed one run on five hits while walking three and striking out three.

Our View: It looked like Marquis had come back to Earth after his hot start, but he came right back tonight and threw a gem. Marquis has been a bit of a fantasy enigma this season, but history tells us these good starts are probably the exception rather than the rule.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 5/13, 11:25 PM CT
On Wednesday Jason Marquis looked like the pitcher everyone expected him to be this season. He allowed nine runs on ten hits and three walks over just 3.2 innings and was tagged with his third loss of the season as the Rockies fell 15-11 to the Astros.

Our View: We knew it would happen sooner or later. Back to back terrible starts where he allowed 16 runs in 9.2 innings boosted his ERA from 3.31 to 5.40. This may be a sign of this to come, so tread cautiously with him from now on.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsThursday 5/7, 5:33 PM CT
Jason Marquis struggled a bit on Thursday, going six innings and allowing seven runs (five earned) on eight hits while striking out two. Marquis fell to 4-2 on the season with the loss.

Our View: Marquis may be coming back down to Earth after his outstanding start to the season. His fantasy value is high risk right now, as he has been good for the most part, but his history suggests he won't be good for very long. Own him at your own risk.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 5/2, 5:39 PM CT
Jason Marquis only allowed one earned run on five hits over nine innings in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Giants at AT&T Park. He also fired four strikeouts with one walk issued.

Our View: A Pablo Sandoval home run spoiled his bid for a shutout, but fantasy owners should still be very pleased as Marquis collected his fourth win over five starts.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSunday 4/26, 7:18 PM CT
Jason Marquis picked up his third win of the season on Sunday in the Rockies' 10-4 win over the Dodgers. Marquis surrendered just three runs on six hits and four walks over 7.1 innings.

Our View: Marquis has been surprisingly effective this season considering his surroundings. He's now 3-1 and has a respectable 4.10 ERA. Maybe he's finally listening to his pitching coach and constantly throwing his sinker. He weak K-rate certainly supports that theory.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 4/15, 4:51 PM CT
Jason Marquis earned his second win in two starts on Wednesday as he shut down his former team, the Chicago Cubs. Marquis went seven innings while surrendering only one run on five hits. He also struck out three and walked two. He also helped himself out with a two RBI single in the second.

Our View: This is the second straight impressive performance for Marquis as a Rockie, as he got the better of Rich Harden today. He is worth keeping an eye on, but waiting to see if he can keep this up may be a better fantasy option.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsFriday 4/10, 6:03 PM CT
Jason Marquis out dueled Cole Hamels on Friday and earned his first win of 2009. The former Cub scattered five hits and two walks over seven innings and allowed just two earned runs as the Rockies topped the Phillies 10-3.

Our View: Marquis is a questionable fantasy starter, especially since landing in Colorado, but had a nice day on Friday. If he can work his sinker and keep the ball down he could be effective in Coors field.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 3/25, 6:40 PM CT
Jason Marquis got crushed again for ten hits and eleven earned runs in just 3.1 innings against the Angels on Wednesday. Marquis walked four, struck out one, and took his third loss of the spring.

Our View: Marquis is expected to be a starter at the back end of the Colorado rotation but nothing has gone right this spring for the right-hander. He had marginal NL-only value to begin with but if these trends continue he might be pitching his way back to the bullpen.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsFriday 3/20, 8:23 PM CT
Jason Marquis got creamed for six runs on seven hits in five innings on Friday against the Rangers. Marquis, now 0-2 this spring, struck out six men, but he also gave up two home runs.

Our View: Marquis' stint as a hurler in the back end of the Colorado rotation has not been good. He was rocked today when he tried to pitch from a different spot on the mound. However, he switched back to his usual spot the final two innings and shut out the Rangers.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 1/7, 10:51 AM CT
Jason Marquis was brought in by the Rockies to add stability to the back of their rotation, according to the Denver Post. He said, "I'm an aggressive, go-at-them guy. I want the ball every fifth day, I want the challenge of that, and I promise I'll leave it all on the field."

Our View: If healthy, Marquis should be a solid innings-eater, which will help out their bullpen. Marquis is 3-0 over five career outings at Coors Field with a 2.51 ERA.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 1/6, 3:37 PM CT
The Cubs have officially sent Jason Marquis to the Rockies in exchange for reliever Luis Vizcaino, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Marquis is to be paid $9.875 million in 2009, and the Cubs are expected to pay $1 million of that. Sean Marshall will be a top candidate to fill his spot in the Cubs' rotation.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsMonday 1/5, 6:21 PM CT
The Jason Marquis deal is expected to be finalized on Tuesday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Marquis leaving is expected to open up a slot for Sean Marshall in the rotation rather than the club going after Jake Peavy again.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSunday 1/4, 10:22 AM CT
Jason Marquis will cost the Rockies a payroll increase of $4.875 million to around $73 million total for 2009, according to the Denver Post. This includes subtracting the salary of Luis Vizcaino who the Rockies would be dealing for Marquis.

Our View: The deal Marquis is expected to be finalized as early as Monday and he would become the the second highest-paid player on the Rockies, behind Todd Helton is will make $16.6 million in 2009.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 12/31, 9:03 AM CT
Updating a previous report, the Rockies are close to finalizing a deal with the Cubs to acquire pitcher Jason Marquis, according to ESPN. The Cubs will get right-handed reliever Luis Vizcaino in exchange.

Our View: The Cubs will pay $1 million of Marquis' salary to help facilitate a deal as Colorado would have to add just less than $5 million to its 2009 payroll to acquire Marquis.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 12/30, 8:15 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, the Rockies and Cubs have agreed in principle on a deal to send Jason Marquis to Colorado in exchange for Luis Vizcaino, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: The Cubs will pay $1 million of Marquis' salary for 2009 but will still shed about $5 million in payroll for the year through this trade. This could allow them to reopen the door for a Jake Peavy deal with the Padres.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 12/30, 5:08 PM CT
The Rockies are close to acquiring Jason Marquis from the Cubs for Luis Vizcaino, according to ESPN.

Our View: Marquis was 11-9 last year for the Cubs but had a 4.53 ERA, so he certainly benefited at times from the Cubs' potent lineup. That situation will change as Colorado looks to be in a rebuilding year two seasons removed from the club's first pennant. Wrigley Field can turn into a pitcher's park on occasion but this is hardly ever the case for Coors Field in Denver, so this trade wouldn't bode well for Marquis' already limited fantasy value.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsMonday 12/29, 3:15 PM CT
Jason Marquis is still on the Rockies' radar, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: The Rockies would like to trade for the right-handed starting pitcher, but cannot absorb much of his $9.8 million salary for 2009. The club still likes Tim Redding as well, and could likely acquire him for less than Marquis.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsFriday 12/26, 6:05 PM CT
Jason Marquis could be on the Rockies radar if they fail to acquire free agent Tim Redding, according to the Rocky Mountain News.

Our View: Marquis has thrown at least 167 innings in each of the past five years which makes him an attractive target for a team looking for a depth arm. With the Cubs looking to shed at least a portion of his nearly $10 million salary in 2009, they would love it if the Rockies made them a solid offer for Marquis.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 12/20, 6:57 PM CT
The Mets may be interested in trading for Jason Marquis as a backup option if they can't sign Tim Redding, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

Our View: The Rockies are also interested in Marquis as a backup option for Redding. This is certainly good news for the Cubs, who need to move Marquis' salary to add another pitcher for their own rotation.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsFriday 12/19, 8:34 AM CT
The Rockies are interested in Cubs' hurler Jason Marquis, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Our View: The club is thinking about either trading for Marquis or inking free agent Tim Redding. The Cubs are willing to absorb a sizable chunk of Marquis' $9.875MM salary in 2009 if the Rockies' proposal is favorable.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsThursday 12/11, 2:56 PM CT
The Mets are discussing a trade with the Cubs for hurler Jason Marquis, according to Sports Illustrated.

Our View: Marquis would fill a spot in the Mets' rotation, and the Cubs are willing to pay some of Marquis' $9.5 million 2009 salary to settle up the cost. The Mets could also think about dealing reliever Scott Schoeneweis to the Cubs to further offset Marquis' salary. Marquis was notably born in Manhasset, New York, and would likely be in favor of a move to the Mets.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsThursday 12/11, 12:50 AM CT
The Padres may be willing to take on Jason Marquis as part of a package that would send Jake Peavy to the Cubs, according to the Chicago Tribune. In order for that to happen, though, the Cubs would likely have to eat a large portion of his $9 million-plus salary for next season.

Our View: Marquis could actually become a fantasy factor if dealt to the Padres as they play in the most pitcher-friendly park in the majors.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsMonday 12/8, 7:10 PM CT
The Denver Post reports that due to budgetary constraints, the team is unlikely to pursue hurler Jason Marquis.

Our View: There had been a rumor that the Rockies were interested in the Cubs pitcher, as Chicago looks to dump some salary in order to make a run at Jake Peavy.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsMonday 12/8, 7:20 AM CT
Jason Marquis could be a trade target for the Rockies, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: The club would be interested in dealing for him if the Cubs agree to eat part of his $9.8 million salary. The Rockies wanted to trade for Aaron Heilman, but were turned off by the Mets' high asking price.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsMonday 12/8, 1:28 AM CT
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the Cubs would like to clear payroll by moving Jason Marquis and most of the $9.8 million that he is due next season, in order to make room for a left-handed bat. They would likely make such moves before any Jake Peavy deal.

Our View: Marquis has never been the type of pitcher that calls for such a salary. It figures to be a difficult task to shed Marquis from their roster.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSunday 12/7, 12:24 AM CT
The Mets rejected the Cubs' recent trade proposal of Jason Marquis for Aaron Heilman, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View: Marquis is slated to make $9.875 million in 2009, and the Mets are not interested in him as they don't feel he would provide an upgrade to their current rotation.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 12/6, 7:16 AM CT
The Cubs would be willing to pay as much as $4 million of Jason Marquis' contract in order to ship him out of town, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View: With the Padres trying to shed payroll, it's unlikely that Marquis could be part of a Jake Peavy deal, so Chicago probably needs to trade Marquis before a Peavy deal could go down.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSunday 11/30, 1:41 PM CT
Offering Jason Marquis won't be enough to acquire David DeJesus from the Royals, according to BaseballProspectus.com.

Our View: If they cannot sweeten the deal for DeJesus, the source believes the Cubs will pursue Raul Ibanez over Bobby Abreu.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 11/19, 10:42 AM CT
The NY Post reports that the Cubs will try to trade Jason Marquis.

Our View: The club re-signed Ryan Dempster, and would like to trade Marquis, who is owed $9.875 million in 2009. That would free up more money to land free agents, such as shortstop Rafael Furcal.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 9/27, 4:52 PM CT
During the regular-season Jason Marquis won 11 games as a starter but in the post-season he will be coming out of the bullpen, according to MLB.com. "Starting is my passion, starting is what I feel my best at," Marquis said Saturday. "But we have four pretty good starters, too. We all have confidence in each other. They made a decision to go with the other four [starters], and that's fine."

Our View: The Cubs will go with a rotation of Ryan Dempster, Carlos Zambrano, Rich Harden and Tedd Lilly in the playoffs. Dempster will get the ball in Game 1 for the Cubs, who are looking to win the World Series for the first time in 100 years.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 9/23, 9:25 AM CT
Jason Marquis has been dropped from his final turn in the rotation and Rich Harden moves back from today to Thursday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Sean Marshall is now slated for tonight. As a result, Ted Lilly makes his final start Saturday at Milwaukee, and ace Carlos Zambrano takes the hill Wednesday.

Our View: The changes would allow skipper Lou Piniella to open the playoffs with Ryan Dempster and Ted Lilly pitching the first two games at Wrigley Field on their normal rest. Carlos Zambrano and Harden would then slot naturally into the third and fourth games of the best-of-five series.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsMonday 9/22, 10:13 PM CT
Jason Marquis did it all on Monday. He went 6.2 innings allowing four runs to pick up his 11th win of the season, and at the plate he knocked in five runs thanks to his second home run of the year, a grand slam.

Our View: Marquis was the first Cubs pitcher to knock in five runs in a game since Milt Pappas on August 11th, 1972. The guy can swing the stick, and he is a fair pitcher as well though he isn't going to bowl anyone over with his production on the hill. In each of the past five seasons, Marquis has won at least 11 games.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSunday 9/21, 11:38 AM CT
The Cubs took the National League Central title on Sunday, and pitcher Jason Marquis was a part of it. Amazingly, every team he has been on in his nine-year career has won it's division, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Once again, that's nine years between the Braves, Cardinals and Cubs, and nine division titles. Marquis is an average pitcher, and this is more of a major coincidence than anything else.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 9/6, 9:43 PM CT
Jason Marquis had his third straight quality start on Saturday against the Reds and earned his 10th win in the process. He walked five and allowed five hits but managed to give up just two runs over 7.1 innings. He also hit his first home run of the season in the effort.

Our View: Marquis remains too inconsistent to garner fantasy consideration. Just when he starts to look good he'll show up for a beating.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsMonday 9/1, 9:29 PM CT
Jason Marquis fell to 9-8 on Monday despite allowing just two runs over six innings against the Astros (he was out-pitched by Roy Oswalt).

Our View: Marquis struck out a season best eight batters on the day in his second straight solid outing (seven IP, zero ER last time out). It usually isn't pretty, but he almost always keeps the Cubs in the game.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 8/27, 1:59 PM CT
The Cubs finished off a sweep of the Pirates with a 2-0 win. Jason Marquis went seven shutout innings, while fanning three Bucs.

Our View: Marquis earned his ninth win of the season today and looked sharp over seven innings.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 8/27, 12:35 PM CT
The Cubs own a 13-4 record this year against the Pirates and send Jason Marquis to the mound in quest of a three game sweep. Marquis (8-7, 4.76 ERA) is 4-3 with a 3.86 ERA in 11 career games in Pittsburgh.

Our View: Marquis was serviceable in his last start against the Nats, working five scoreless innings before finding a rough spot in the sixth frame, but he was working on eight days rest and look rusty in his effort. Today he's back on regular rest and should find success against the soft Pirates batting order.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsFriday 8/22, 5:17 PM CT
Jason Marquis did not throw well for the Cubs, as he managed just 5.1 innings, giving up four earned runs on four hits and three walks in the team's 13-5 loss to Washington.

Our View: Marquis is an average pitcher who won't give fantasy owners a whole lot. It's best to pass on him, except possibly in deep NL-only leagues.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 8/13, 3:45 PM CT
Jason Marquis issued two earned runs on six hits over 5.1 innings in Wednesday's 10-2 win over the Braves in Atlanta, with two walks and one strikeout.

Our View: Marquis improves his record to 8-7 and trimmed his ERA to 4.67. He has won two straight starts, but is still best suited for deeper NL-only leagues, as he is too inconsistent to count on.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSunday 7/27, 5:41 PM CT
Jason Marquis allowed six runs in six innings on Sunday against the Florida Marlins. He walked three and gave up nine hits, three of which were home runs.

Our View: Marquis is irrelevant in fantasy leagues. Once every five starts or so, he will throw a gem but he is simply to inconsistent to keep on fantasy rosters.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsFriday 7/11, 4:14 PM CT
In his first start in 10 days, Jason Marquis looked very good. He allowed no runs over seven innings, walked two and scattered four hits.

Our View: He did not factor into the decision today, but he is 4-2 over his last seven starts. With the recent Harden acquisition, it is still uncertain as to what the Cubs rotation will be following the All-Star break. Today's performance bodes well for Marquis to have a second half impact.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsThursday 7/10, 8:47 PM CT
Jason Marquis, who hasn't started since July 1st, will get the ball on Friday to face the Giants, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Marquis isn't scheduled to start his next game until July 22nd, so he will try and keep himself in shape by throwing extra bullpen sessions. He is nothing more than a middling starter anyway, so you shouldn't lose too much sleep over having him start just a couple of times over the course of three weeks.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 7/2, 12:11 AM CT
Jason Marquis only allowed two earned runs on four hits over seven innings in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Giants, with three walks and five strikeouts.

Our View: He pitched well, but was handed his fifth loss of the season due to poor run support. He is 3-2 over his last five starts, with two of those wins coming away from Wrigley Field on the road.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsThursday 6/26, 5:06 PM CT
Jason Marquis gave up seven hits and seven earned runs in four innings as the Cubs lost to Baltimore 11-4. It was Marquis' first loss since May 13.

Our View: Marquis has given up 12 earned runs in his last two starts, covering 11 innings. He doesn't have the ability to strike many hitters out, so games like his last two are always a possibility.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 6/21, 3:16 PM CT
Jason Marquis surrendered five earned runs on eight hits over seven innings in Saturday's exciting 11-7 victory over the cross-town rival White Sox, with one walk and four strikeouts.

Our View: Marquis gave up a pair of two-run homers in the game and it wasn't a strong outing, but the Cubs provided enough run support for him to win.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 6/14, 2:57 PM CT
Jason Marquis notched his third win in as many starts with an excellent effort against the Blue Jays on Saturday. The right-hander cruised through seven innings before getting into a little trouble in the eighth. Marquis wrapped up the day with four hit and one run allowed over seven full frames. He stands at 5-3 with a 4.24 ERA.

Our View: The inconsistent Marquis remains only useful in NL-only formats, even though he's having a solid June. He's still walked more batters (eight) than he's whiffed (five) this month.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSunday 6/8, 10:34 PM CT
Chicago RHP Jason Marquis picked up his fourth win of the season as the Cubs put a 3-1 victory on the board versus the Dodgers. Marquis went 6 1/3 innings, allowing just one run (unearned) on three hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

Our View: This is Marquis' second win in four starts with two no-decisions sandwiched in between. During that span, Marquis has surrendered 11 total earned runs, bringing his ERA to 4.54.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSunday 5/18, 4:23 PM CT
Jason Marquis improved to 2-3 on the year by holding the Pirates to two earned runs over six innings. Marquis allowed four hits and just one walk on the afternoon.

Our View: Marquis brought his ERA back below five (4.96), as he continues is his role as an innings eating back of the rotation arm with little fantasy upside.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 5/13, 9:55 PM CT
Jason Marquis fell to 1-3 as he allowed 10 baserunners and four runs to the Padres in 5.2 innings.

Our View: Marquis is what he is, and that is a servicable fifth starter. He'll likely push double digit wins if he stays in the rotation, but the rest of his numbers will probably be below average.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsMonday 5/5, 6:00 PM CT
Jason Marquis walked five, allowed seven hits and all but looked like a right-hander throwing batting practice in his in 5.1 innings of work in Saturday's loss to the Cardinals. Marquis walked the bases loaded in the first, but was saved by a gold glove play at first base by Derek Lee.

Our View: Rich Hill was yanked from a game this past week for doing exactly what Marquis did on Sunday, walking the bases loaded. Rich Hill may be struggling, but keeping Marquis in the rotation over Hill, doesn't say much for Sweet Lou's objectivity. He obviously has a grudge against Hill and was looking for an excuse to rid the 25-man roster of his services.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSunday 5/4, 10:17 PM CT
Jason Marquis served up seven hits and five runs over 5.1 innings against the Cardinals on Sunday. He issued five walks and struck out four. Marquis fell to 1-2. He has allowed five runs in three of his six starts.

Our View: It's never too surprising to see Marquis put up lines like this. He tends to be inconsistent, and he's not worth using in anything other than NL-only leagues.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsThursday 4/24, 7:12 PM CT
Jason Marquis had another solid outing for the Cubs permitting eight hits, two walks and two runs in seven innings against the Rockies.

Our View: In each of his last three starts Marquis has held the opposition to two or fewer runs, and when he gets on one of these runs he can be good for a long period of time. Marquis will win his share of games, but his ratio's will be borderline average so you'll need to look for production in those categories elsewhere.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 4/19, 4:01 PM CT
While the Cubbies were giving runs of support by the dozen (plus one), pitcher Jason Marquis didn't need much help in keeping the Pittsburgh Pirates in check. Chicago won 1-13 while Marquis pitched a gem, going six innings with 102 pitches (67 for strikes), allowing just one run on six hits. Marquis walked just one and struck out seven on the day, getting his first win of the season.

Our View: Marquis has struggled with control thus far, walking six in his first two starts with just four strike outs to match. Today, he had it working and looked great.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSunday 4/13, 5:24 PM CT
Jason Marquis recovered from his illness well enough to hold the Phillies to two runs over 5.0 innings on Sunday. The right-hander made Cubs fans a little sick by adding in five walks (two intentional), hitting a batter, tossing a wild pitch, and throwing only 46 of his 86 pitches for strikes.

Our View: Outings are rarely clean when Marquis is involved, but he managed to limit the damage this time around. Luckily, Marquis may be flying a bit under the radar because Rich Hill is having even worse troubles.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 4/12, 10:23 AM CT
Jason Marquis is ready to start on Sunday, following his stint with a strep throat, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. He has recovered enough from the illness, and is good to go.

Our View: He will be looking for his first win of the season.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsThursday 4/10, 6:27 PM CT
Cubs manager Lou Piniella is not only confusing the media, he is confusing his team. Jason Marquis has been scratched from his scheduled start Friday because of an illness after being named tonight's pitcher in place of the Rich Hill, according to the Chicago Tribune. Carlos Zambrano will pitch Friday and Ted Lilly Saturday, both on regular rest. Marquis will then throw Sunday's game in Philadelphia.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsThursday 4/10, 8:24 AM CT
Jason Marquis will start over Rich Hill today, according to the Chicago Sun Times. Manager Piniella is going to swap them in the rotation the next two days, assuming Marquis is well enough to pitch following a stint with the flu. Marquis notably had two strong starts against Pittsburgh early last season, and Piniella wants to use him in the rubber match of the series today.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsMonday 3/24, 12:50 PM CT
Lou Piniella announced Monday morning that Ryan Dempster and Jason Marquis will be in the starting rotation, leaving Jon Lieber to pitch out of the bullpen, this according to the Chicago Tribune. According to reports, the team has been shopping Marquis and this spot in the rotation could be for the purpose of showcasing him. Marquis now becomes an NL-only option in deep formats.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsMonday 3/24, 11:37 AM CT
Sweet Lou almost always makes life in the clubhouse and dugout more interesting, for the fans, and his players. On Monday morning, the Cubs' skipper hinted that Marquis might not be the odd man out (of a starting spot in the rotation) after all. According to the Chicago Sun Times, the Cubs' starting rotation jobs that belonged to Ryan Dempster and Jon Lieber looked a little less absolute after Sunday's game. Jason Marquis looked strong again -- retiring 12-of-13 (including 11 straight). Piniella seemed to imply that Marquis could make the rotation and bump one of the two others (Dempster or Lieber). ''He hasn't done anything in the spring -- except get me mad once,'' Piniella said, laughing, ''to lead me to believe he shouldn't be in the rotation. We'll have something to say about that [today]." Piniella will make several announcements today, but the team has been shopping Marquis -- and if he stays in the rotation through today's announcement, it could be for the purpose of showcasing him.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSunday 3/23, 7:31 PM CT
Jason Marquis threw an average outing on Sunday allowing three runs in 4.1 innings. Marquis was around the plate striking out five and walking none. Marquis has expressed that he will not be happy in the bullpen this year, and while he has pitched well enough to earn a rotation spot with most teams, he looks like the out man out in Chicago. Currently the rotation for the Cubs looks like: 1) Carlos Zambrano 2) Ted Lilly 3) Ryan Dempster 4) Rich Hill 5) Jon Lieber.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsThursday 3/6, 9:01 PM CT
Jason Marquis continues to battle for a starting spot in the Cubs rotation and on Thursday he allowed no runs in three innings in the Cubs' 2-1 loss to the A's. Marquis has allowed only one run this spring in five innings and he hasn't missed a regular season start due to injury in four years marking him as one of the best 5th starters in the game.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSunday 3/2, 2:59 PM CT
Lou Piniella and Jason Marquis met for about 10 minutes Sunday morning after Marquis said Saturday that he'd want to leave Chicago if he can't win a spot in the rotation and Piniella said, "Well, if that's the case, he can go somewhere else," according to MLB.com. "First of all, I'm going to apologize," Piniella said Sunday. "I didn't handle that situation well. I overreacted to it after the ballgame we didn't play particularly well in. I can understand why a player feels that way, and we'll leave it at that. The whole thing is I wasn't expecting it and it sort of surprised me. I should've handled it better and I apologize." Hmmm. Piniella overreacting and not handling things well in the papers? That doesn't sound like Lou. Apologies aside, Marquis is going to have to earn a spot in the rotation this spring by beating out Ryan Dempster, Jon Lieber and Sean Marshall.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSunday 3/2, 8:29 AM CT
Cubs manager Lou Piniella was not happay that Jason Marquis said if he doesn't earn the last spot in the team's rotation, he wants to ""take my services elsewhere," according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "Well, if that's the case, he can go somewhere else," said Piniella. "How's that?" Ryan Dempster and Jon Lieber are Marquis' primary competition, but he's not doing himself any favors by irritating the already irritable Piniella.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 2/26, 8:50 AM CT
Jason Marquis is expected to fight it out with Jon Lieber for the last spot in the Cubs rotation. He could go to the bullpen if he doesn't win the spot, but he's not thinking about that right now. "We'll cross that road when we get there if that's the case," Marquis said in the Chicago Tribune. "I'm not thinking that way right now." Marquis got off to a good start last year but crumbled down the stretch. He shouldn't be considered outside of NL-only formats, and even then he's a risky play.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 10/3, 11:36 AM CT
Jason Marquis will be on the Cubs' NLDS roster, but he's unlikely to make a start. The team plans to use a three-man rotation against the D'Backs, though manager Piniella isn't ready to make a formal commitment, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "Obviously, I'd rather start," Marquis said. "That was my role all year. That's where I feel most comfortable. But the decision isn't up to me."
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 10/2, 11:02 AM CT
Jason Marquis could be the odd man out in the NLDS series versus the D'Backs. The Cubs plan on going with a three-man rotation, which leaves Marquis, the No. 4 starter, out of the mix, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "We're probably going to pitch this series with three starting pitchers," manager Lou Pinella said on local Chicago radio station WSCR-AM (670). "I'm talking about [Carlos] Zambrano, [Ted] Lilly and Hill. If we get into Sunday, I think we'll bring Zambrano back on three days' rest, which allows us to use Lilly on his regular turn on Tuesday if there's a fifth game needed." It's possible the Cubs may use Marquis out of the bullpen. If not, it appears the right-hander will have to wait until the NLCS - assuming the Cubs make it there - to pitch this postseason.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsFriday 3/16, 10:06 AM CT
Jason Marquis will throw in a minor-league intrasquad game Friday to stay on schedule, the Chicago Tribune reports. He's expected to begin the year as the No. 3 starter.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 12/9, 11:41 AM CT
On Friday night, the Cubs signed free agent Jason Marquis to a three-year contract worth about $20 million, according to the Chicago Tribune. Marquis was 14-16 with a 6.02 ERA for the Cardinals last season but struggled late, costing him a spot in their postseason rotation.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsFriday 10/13, 12:11 PM CT
Jason Marquis said he felt "a bit blindsided" after being left off the Cardinals roster for the NLCS, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Marquis was 14-16 with a 6.02 ERA this year, and the rest of his stat line is just as messy (35 homers in 194 1/3 innings, 75 walks, just 96 strikeouts). A pending free agent, Marquis likely will not be back with the team next year.
Jason Marquis, P, Washington NationalsFriday 9/22, 6:24 PM CT
Jason Marquis was scratched from Friday's start due to back spasms. Marquis is expected to make his next scheduled start on Wednesday. Chris Narveson will make a spot start in place of Marquis.
