Luis Gonzalez, LF, Florida MarlinsFriday 8/28, 5:13 PM CT
After being unable to latch on somewhere as a bench bat this season, Luis Gonzalez will officially retire and join the Diamondbacks front office as a special assistant to the team president, according to MLB.com.

Our View: In 19 major league seasons, Gonzalez batted .283 with 354 home runs and 1,439 RBI. He is one of only 17 players in history to compile 2,500 hits, 500 doubles, 350 home runs and 1,000 RBI.

Luis Gonzalez attended Wednesday's game between the Diamondbacks and Rockies at Chase Field, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View: Gonzalez sat next to Ken Kendrick, who is the team's managing general partner. There has been discussions regarding Gonzalez returning to Arizona, but not as a player.
Luis Gonzalez, LF, Florida MarlinsThursday 3/12, 10:38 AM CT
Accoring to Buster Olney of ESPN, Luis Gonzalez continues to train and prepare as he waits for a team in need of his services to come calling.

Our View: If Gonzalez latches on with a team, his fantasy value is minimal. He'll most likely be around for a bat off the bench and verteran leadership.
Luis Gonzalez, LF, Florida MarlinsThursday 1/29, 9:52 AM CT
Luis Gonzalez is reportedly on the Reds' radar, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com.

Our View: The club is seeking bench depth, and are interested in left-handed hitter Gonzalez, who held a .336 OBP over 341 at-bats with Florida in 2008. His fantasy value would be limited as a reserve if he lands in Cincinnati.

The Padres covet a left-handed bat for their bench, with Luis Gonzalez, Brad Wilkerson, Daryle Ward, Mark Sweeney and Doug Mientkiewicz among the available options, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The Pirates are interested in Gonzalez as a fourth outfielder. Bobby Abreu and Adam Dunn are also available, but are likely out of the Padres' price range.
Luis Gonzalez, LF, Florida MarlinsSunday 1/25, 12:05 PM CT
The NY Post believes Luis Gonzalez could land in Pittsburgh.

Our View: Gonzalez wouldn't hold much fantasy value, but would provide veteran leadership to a young Pirates' outfield and would be used as a left-handed bat off the bench.
Luis Gonzalez, LF, Florida MarlinsTuesday 1/6, 7:04 AM CT
Luis Gonzalez wants to serve one more campaign in the majors, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: The 41-year-old vet is garnering interest from clubs in the market for a lefthanded bat/fourth outfielder.
Luis Gonzalez, LF, Florida MarlinsWednesday 10/22, 1:43 PM CT
Luis Gonzalez is reportedly interested in returning to the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to the Arizona Republic. Gonzalez has said that money is not an issue, as he only made $2 million last year.

Our View: Gonzalez had a good year for his role with the Marlins this season. He was a spot starter in left field, and Florida used him as a pinch hitter frequently as well. He would be a good pick up for Arizona, but probably not for your 2009 fantasy team.
Luis Gonzalez, LF, Florida MarlinsTuesday 10/14, 8:13 PM CT
Luis Gonzalez intends to return for his 19th season in 2009, and he would like to return to the Marlins, according to MLB.com. "I'd like to," he said. "But I'll sit back and see what kind of options I have, and see what's right for myself and my family." Gonzalez wouldn't mind going to the AL as a DH. "It just depends on the situation. I could end up in the American League, and I'd be perfect for the DH," he said. "Obviously, I'm not going to hit as many home runs as I used to, but I think my extra-base-hit numbers will be there. I hit 26 doubles not playing every day. If you get 400-500 at-bats, I could very easily have been in the mid-30s or low 40s."

Our View: Gonzalez might not fit in the Marlins' plans. Either way, his days of being fantasy relevant are likely over.
Luis Gonzalez, LF, Florida MarlinsSunday 8/31, 3:31 PM CT
Marlins outfielder Luis Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with a double and RBI, but it was not enough as the Marlins lost to the Mets, 6-2.

Our View: Gonzalez cannot help fantasy owners much anymore, as he has hit just seven home runs and knocked home 42 runners on the year.
Luis Gonzalez, LF, Florida MarlinsThursday 8/28, 9:11 PM CT
Luis Gonzalez had two hits and an RBI on Thursday night from the second hole in the order for the Marlins.

Our View: With Josh Willingham and Jeremy Hermida struggle to find any consistency, Gonzalez has found himself in the lineup in five straight games during which time he has produced at least one hit each time. He has no upside but isn't a total waste in NL-only leagues.
Luis Gonzalez, LF, Florida MarlinsFriday 6/13, 6:06 PM CT
Luis Gonzalez is serving as the Marlins designated hitter today in their interleague game against intrastate rival, the Tampa Bay Rays.

Our View: The veteran doesn't move as well as he used to in the outfield, but he can still hit. Gonzo is batting .275 with five home runs, 25 RBI and 18 runs scored in 182 at-bats.

Luis Gonzalez, LF, Florida MarlinsFriday 5/30, 8:54 PM CT
Luis Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with two RBI in Friday's 12-3 loss to the Phillies.

Luis Gonzalez's double on Monday was the 578th of his career, which tied him for 17th all-time with Wade Boggs, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Gonzalez is hitting .280 for the season with eight doubles, one triple, three homers, 17 RBI, and one stolen base over 48 games. He is hitting .313 in May, and six of his eight doubles and 13 of his 17 RBI came in the month as well.

Florida OF Luis Gonzalez has more than his fair share of seasons in the majors under his belt, and tonight he showed why experience can be your best friend. Gonzo went 4-for-4 in the Marlins' 3-0 win over the Milwaukee Brewers, picking up his 6th RBI of the season and raising his seasonal batting average to .273.

Our View: Gonzo is now 6-for-7 over his last two games, hoping to get his bat going in the right direction.

"There has been some significant dialogue," Gonzalez's agent, Gregg Clifton, told the Miami Herald. "He's very interested and it's reciprocal. He's got a lot left in the tank. He's a Florida guy." Gonzalez hit .278 with 15 homers and 68 RBI last year for the Dodgers.

It appears unlikely that Luis Gonzalez will return to the Dodgers in 2008. Gonzalez still sees himself as an everyday player, but he's been seeing less and less playing time lately as the Dodgers give more playing time to Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier, according to the LA Times. Asked whether he saw himself coming back to play under similar circumstances, Gonzalez replied, "No, no, not here. . . . Anything can happen in the last month, but they've got a good nucleus of young kids here and that's their future. I don't know where I'll end up next year. I'll go with an open mind into the off-season and see what happens." Gonzalez hasn't started in five of the last eight games, making him nothing more than a NL-only option.

Luis Gonzalez, LF, Florida MarlinsThursday 7/20, 10:13 PM CT
Manager Bob Melvin gave Luis Gonzalez the night off on Thursday, starting Carlos Quentin in his place, according to the AP. Regardless, Melvin said that Gonzalez would be back in left field on Friday.
