Luis Rivas went 3-for-4 with three RBI while hitting a double and a triple against the Rockies tonight.

Our View: Good night for Rivas, but he is not worth considering in fantasy leagues.

Luis Rivas is hitting leadoff tonight when the Pirates try and bounce back from a beat down at the hands of the Chicago White Sox. The White Sox returned to their hitting ways as soon as they arrived back in Comerica Park.

Our View: Rivas is starting at second base and Freddy Sanchez has the day off.

Luis Rivas went 2-for-5 with four RBI, and notably hit a grand slam in Saturday's 14-4 win over the Cardinals. He still left six men on base, as Pittsburgh registered 19 hits in the game.

Our View: He only had two homers and seven RBI over 78 at-bats heading into tonight's game. He started the contest in place of the ailing Jack Wilson.

Pittsburgh shortstop Luis Rivas put the Pirates in great position to win today as Jason Bay brought them to the victory, beating the Chicago Cubs 6-5. Rivas went 2-for-5 with one walk and two home runs, his first homers of the season, both with no runners on base, giving Rivas two RBIs on the day.

Our View: Rivas was struggling before today, hitting just .208 on the month coming in. Today may bring better days ahead.

Luis Rivas continued his spring onslaught Sunday with another two-hit game, reports The Beaver County Times. The Pirates second baseman has been on base in 14 of his 16 games this spring. Rivas is locked in a battle with Josh Wilson for a middle infield backup role.

Luis Rivas appears to have a serious shot at making the Pirates' roster as a reserve, according to MLB.com. "Luis is a fierce competitor. He works hard and goes about his business," manager John Russell said. "He's in great shape. He's moving very well. He plays the game the right way. I'm very pleased with how he came in to camp, and I'm very pleased with what he's done so far." Although he was 0-for-4 on Tuesday, it was the first time he failed to reach base safely this spring. Whether he beats out Josh Wilson as the backup middle infielder likely won't be determine until the final week of spring training, but so far Rivas is looking in charge.
