Andrew Brown, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 4/29, 9:12 AM CT
Pitcher Andrew Brown agreed to a minor league deal with the A's on Tuesday, the San Francisco Chronicle confirms. He had right shoulder surgery in January.

Our View: Brown pitched well for the A's last year, but they didn't initially bring him back after the surgery. Clearly the team feels better about his shoulder at this point. We're still not sure if Brown will recover in time to return to the major this season.

Dr. James Andrews confirmed that Andrew Brown needs surgery on his ailing right shoulder, which led to his release by the Athletics, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: The club will be replacing Brown in the bullpen with Russ Springer, and he was let go to clear a roster spot on the 40-man roster. Brown will miss around a year while recovering, and the A's left open the possibility of bringing him back on a minor league deal after his rehab. The 27-year-old hurler was a solid member of their bullpen last season, with a 1.26 WHIP over 35 innings.

Andrew Brown is going to visit Dr. James Andrews in Alabama as the righty reliever believes he will need surgery on his throwing shoulder, according to the SF Chronicle. Brown said, "Hopefully, it's nothing major and I'm only out until the All-Star break. I know there is a small labrum tear, and the rotator cuff has some damage, but it might just be irritation. The MRI is not conclusive."

Our View: He is not yet signed for 2009, and there is a chance he may not be with the club, especially if they ink Russ Springer as expected. Brown held opponents to a .187 batting average in 2008 with a 1.26 WHIP, and would have been a solid pick for deeper fantasy leagues that feature middle men if healthy.

Our View: He has a shot to return to the Athletics' bullpen before the end of August. He has been a solid reliever for the club this season, and is worth holding onto in deeper AL-only leagues that feature middle men.

Andrew Brown will be activated from the DL today, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Brown is coming back from an appendectomy.

Our View: Brown was pitching well before his injury, but he's not worth owning outside of very deep leagues.
