It's unclear if John Thomson will be able to make his scheduled start on Tuesday. He's dealing with a back issue, according to the KC Star. "It’s in the middle of the back," he said, "right at the bottom of the rib cage on the left side. We had an early workout Friday and I threw a bullpen (workout). I felt real good. Then Friday night, I stood up after the game after tying my shoes, and it kind of grabbed me. I went to bed Friday night and came here Saturday and I was locked up." Signs point to Thomson heading to the disabled list Monday and being replaced Tuesday by Leo Nunez as the Royals starter.

Porter added that he didn't "have a timetable yet" for when Thomson will resume throwing. "It's certainly not something that needs surgery," Porter said. "He'll work on his rehab, on his strength and on the endurance of his [rotator] cuff."
