Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersFriday 11/13, 8:02 PM CT
Updating a previous report, the Tigers have contacted starter Jarrod Washburn to inform him that they are not interested in re-signing him, according to MLive.com.

Our View: Washburn was having a career year until he was traded to the Mariners in July. A knee injury and a sudden bout of ineffectiveness led to a 1-3 record and a 7.33 ERA with the Tigers. Expect teams to cautiously avoid him this hot stove season unless they have no other options.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersThursday 11/5, 9:34 AM CT
According to the Detroit Free Press, Tigers' pitcher Jarrod Washburn said he "would be surprised" if the team offered him a contract for next season. Washburn was acquired from Seattle the the trade deadline but struggled with a knee injury after coming to Detroit.

Our View: Washburn was just 1-3 with a 7.33 ERA in his time with the Tigers this season, so it's not a big shocker that they might not want him back. He was having an outstanding campaign with the Mariners before the trade, so there is no doubt that he will get plenty of attention this winter.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 9/30, 2:51 PM CT
The Detroit Free Press is reporting that Tigers' starter Jarrod Washburn will eventually have surgery on his ailing left knee. Washburn will hold off on surgery for now in hopes of pitching at some point in the postseason.

Our View: Washburn looks like a long-shot to make any kind of contribution in the postseason, but he will wait on the surgery and try to come back. He won't be getting a start in the first round, so best-case scenario would be coming out of the bullpen.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSaturday 9/19, 12:19 AM CT
Jarrod Washburn is slated to visit orthopedist Dr. Lewis Yocum in Los Angeles on Tuesday, according to MLive.com.

Our View: Washburn's MRI revealed no torn cartilage in his ailing left knee, but he has been shut down until he is examined by Yocum. The 35-year-old hurler has been scratched from Sunday's scheduled start, and Nate Robertson will take the hill in his place.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 9/16, 10:11 AM CT
FoxSports.com is reporting that Tigers' starting pitcher Jarrod Washburn could be done for the season due to a knee injury. Washburn lasted only one inning in his start on Tuesday due to swelling in the knee.

Our View: An MRI has revealed no structural damage to the knee, but Washburn believes the injury in continuing to get worse. He has struggled badly since coming to Detroit, so maybe shutting him down is the best option for the team. We will keep you updated when the Tigers decide what to do.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersTuesday 9/15, 7:28 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn exited Tuesday's start against the Royals with a knee injury.

Our View: He was rocked for four earned runs over one inning prior to leaving, and his injury status is yet to be updated.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersThursday 9/10, 4:57 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn's struggles with the Tigers continued on Thursday. He allowed three runs on seven hits and three walks over just five innings in a 7-4 loss to the lowly Royals.

Our View: Washburn didn't get the loss Thursday, but he deserved it. His WHIP for the game was 2.00 and he only struck out one Royal. Since joining the Tigers he's 1-2 with an ERA well over 6.00.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersThursday 9/3, 9:52 AM CT
Struggling with a sore knee and ineffectiveness, Jarrod Washburn will have his next turn in the rotation skipped, according to MLB.com's Jason Beck.

Our View: Armando Galarraga will be recalled from Triple-A Toledo and start in his place this Saturday. Washburn has allowed 28 earned runs in just 37 innings since coming to Detroit, and is 1-2 with a 6.81 ERA in six starts.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 9/2, 9:07 AM CT
A sore right knee could be behind Jarrod Washburn's struggles (6.81 ERA in six starts) since coming to the Motor City, according to FoxSports.com.

Our View: Washburn hasn't just been not as good as he was in Seattle since coming to Detroit, he's been downright awful, allowing 28 earned runs in just 37 innings, skyrocketing his ERA from 2.64 to 3.55. The Tigers currently have no plans to drop him from their rotation or to place him on the disabled list, however.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersMonday 8/31, 3:32 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn got pounded again on Monday as the Tigers fell to the Rays by a score of 11-7. Washburn allowed the first six hitters of the game to score, and he finished with a line of 5.2 innings, eight runs, nine hits, three walks, and two strikeouts.

Our View: The Rays were the first team since the 2003 Cardinals to have six runs after six batters, but Washburn did manage to settle down a bit after that horrendous start. He has been a major disappointment since coming over to the Tigers, and the team really needs him to get it figured out as we head into September.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersThursday 8/20, 4:06 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn was roughed up for six earned runs on five hits over six innings in Thursday's 7-6 win over Seattle at Comerica Park. He had one walk and four strikeouts, and was tagged for four homers.

Our View: Washburn had a poor outing, and he is lucky he ends the day with a no-decision rather than a loss. He allowed five or more earned runs in three of his last four starts, after going 4-1 with a strong 1.44 ERA over six starts in July. Hopefully he will get back on track soon for fantasy owners.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersFriday 8/14, 8:37 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn only issued three hits over eight scoreless innings in Friday's 1-0 win over the Royals at Comerica Park. He had two walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: Washburn had a strong outing, but was forced to take a no-decision as the game was tied at zero when he exited. On the positive side, he bounced back from his last outing when he was tagged for five earned runs over six innings against Minnesota, and trimmed his ERA to 2.95.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSunday 8/9, 3:27 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn's second Tigers start didn't go much better than his first. The recently acquired lefty allowed five runs on ten hits in six innings, and took a no-decision as Detroit edged Minnesota 8-7.

Our View: Washburn has now allowed 11 runs in 11.1 innings for the Tigers, good for an 8.74 ERA. His ERA is now over 3.00 for the first time since July 6.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersTuesday 8/4, 9:43 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn was roughed up for six earned runs on six hits over 5.1 innings in tonight's 8-2 loss to the Orioles at Comerica Park. He had two walks and two strikeouts, and was tagged for two homers.

Our View: Washburn was a disappointment in his first start with the Tigers after being named the AL Pitcher of the Month for July. The former Mariner still holds a solid 2.93 ERA for the season, and should be able to bounce back fine.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersTuesday 8/4, 4:37 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn has been named the AL Pitcher of the Month for July, according to MLB.com. Washburn was chosen for the award with a 4-1 record and 1.44 ERA over 43.2 innings last month.

Our View: This is the first time in Washburn's career that he has been named the pitcher of the month. He raised his trade stock in Seattle while being dealt to the contending Tigers.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersFriday 7/31, 5:05 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn noted that he would be open to returning to Seattle next season after being dealt to Detroit Friday, according to Bob Nightengale's (USA Today) twitter page.

Our View: The Mariners are not a solid team, but Washburn held a 2.64 ERA over 20 starts, with the help of playing his home games at pitcher-friendly Safeco Field. He is slated to become a free agent in the offseason.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersFriday 7/31, 10:34 AM CT
According to MYNorthwest.com, The Tigers have acquired starter Jarrod Washburn from the Seattle Mariners for left-handers Luke French and Mauricio Robles.

Our View: It was thought that Detroit didn't have enough available talent to get this deal done, but that theory is out the window. The Tigers now have a very solid starting staff and look to be the clear favorite out of the AL Central. Washburn will make an immediate impact and the Tigers didn't have to part with much at all. This looks like a steal for Detroit.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersFriday 7/31, 10:26 AM CT
According to FOXSports.com, the Tigers have contacted the Mariners about coveted starter Jarrod Washburn.

Our View: The Tigers likely don't have enough bait to pull in someone on the level of Washburn's talent. They have some decent pitching prospects, but their lack of talented future position players will probably keep them from adding an impact player. The Yankees are also interested in Washburn, but the M's are looking for Jesus Montero (the Yanks' top prospect) in return.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersThursday 7/30, 11:07 AM CT
According to Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman, the Yankees remain the most likely landing spot should Jarrod Washburn be traded.

Our View: With the M's acquiring Jack Wilson and Ian Snell from the Pirates yesterday, it would be a little odd if they dealt away Washburn. But the veteran pitcher is in a contract drive, and likely won't be back by the Puget Sound next year, so the M's may still deal him even if they feel they are contending.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 7/29, 10:13 AM CT
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Brewers are no longer interested in Mariners' trade bait Jarrod Washburn.

Our View: The Brew Crew are in the midst of a massive slide (they've lost 16-of-23) and are reluctant to give up high end prospects for a two month rental. They also are now four and a half games out in the Central and could be abandoning their 2009 playoff hopes altogether.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 7/29, 12:09 AM CT
Jarrod Washburn impressed potential trade candidates on Tuesday as he went seven innings and allowed only one run on five hits. Washburn did not factor into the decision, but he walked three and struck out one.

Our View: With Washburn's start tonight, he solidified himself as one of the better starting pitchers left on the trade market. Expect him to get moved before the deadline Friday, and the fantasy impact will depend on what team he goes to.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersTuesday 7/28, 12:42 PM CT
FOX Sports reports that the Mariners have shifted into "sell mode" and Jarrod Washburn is among the players believed to be moved before Friday's trade deadline.

Our View: There are probably a good amount of teams that may make offers for Washburn. The Brewers and Phillies are two possible destinations for the veteran southpaw.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSunday 7/26, 9:47 PM CT
The Brewers supposedly have serious interest in acquiring pending free agent pitcher Jarrod Washburn, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Our View: The Mariners reportedly covet a shortstop in return, either Brewers starter J.J. Hardy or top prospect Alcides Escobar. That would be a very steep price for a potential half a year rental, but the Brewers may be compelled to make the move anyway as they have fallen behind in the NL Central derby. Stay tuned.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersThursday 7/23, 4:01 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn only surrendered two hits over seven scoreless innings in Thursday's 2-1 win at Detroit. He had two walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: Washburn has earned a win in four straight starts, and impressively allowed one or less earned runs in each outing over the span. Keep him active in fantasy lineups for his next turn in the Mariners' rotation.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSaturday 7/18, 8:46 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn was in control from the hill in Saturday's 3-1 win at Cleveland, as he only issued one earned run on eight hits over 6.2 innings. He had no walks with three strikeouts.

Our View: Washburn now has a winning record at 7-6, and lowered his ERA to 2.87. He has won three straight starts, allowing one or less earned runs in each outing over the span.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSaturday 7/11, 11:54 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn was in control from the bump in Saturday's 4-1 win over Texas at Safeco Field, as he only issued one earned run on four hits over seven innings. He had two walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: Washburn earned a win for his strong performance, and improved to 6-6 and trimmed his ERA to 2.96. He was coming off his first complete game shutout of the season (against Baltimore) and should remain active in fantasy lineups for his next turn in the Mariners' rotation.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersMonday 7/6, 11:26 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn was in control from the hill in Monday's 5-0 win over the Orioles at Safeco Field, as he issued one hit over nine innings. He had no walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: Nick Markakis spoiled his bid for a no-hitter with a single. Washburn improves to 5-6, and is worth employing in AL-only leagues for his next start following tonight's impressive performance.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 7/1, 8:47 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn was roughed up for four earned runs on eight hits over seven innings in Wednesday's 4-2 loss at the Yankees. He had one walk and six strikeouts, and was tagged for three homers.

Our View: Washburn was a disappointment tonight after only giving up two earned runs in each of his previous two starts. He only claimed one win over his last 12 outings, and should only be considered in AL-only leagues for his next turn in the Mariners' rotation.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersThursday 6/25, 6:50 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn allowed two earned runs on six hits over six innings in Thursday's 9-3 win over the Padres at Safeco Field. He had one walk and six strikeouts.

Our View: It was a solid outing for Washburn, and he improves to 4-5. He was winless over his previous 10 starts, despite giving up two or less earned runs six times over the span. His fantasy value is hindered by playing for a weak team in Seattle.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSunday 6/21, 8:19 PM CT
The Dodgers are reportedly interested in Mariners' hurler Jarrod Washburn, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The 35-year-old lefty holds a solid 3.24 ERA over 13 starts with Seattle this season - but only has three wins. His fantasy stock would rise if he is dealt to a better team, like the Dodgers.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSaturday 6/20, 12:01 AM CT
Jarrod Washburn allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits over seven innings in Friday's 4-3 win over Arizona at Safeco Field. He had three walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: Arizona was leading 3-0 when Washburn exited, so he takes a no-decision. He has now gone 10 straight starts without collecting a win.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSunday 6/14, 1:50 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn has been walking gingerly after his back locked up on him on Saturday, according to the Seattle Times. His start has been pushed back from Thursday to Friday.

Our View: It sounds like a case of back spasms, and it would probably be wise to see how he responds before putting him in your starting lineups. He has lost each of his last five decisions.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSaturday 6/6, 6:32 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn continued his string of bad luck on Saturday as he was left without a win for the eighth straight start. Washburn went six innings and allowed one run on seven hits while walking one and striking out six. He did not factor into the decision in the Mariners' 2-1 win over the Twins.

Our View: Washburn has been excellent all season, but his record still sits at 3-4. His ERA is at 3.07, which is very good, but his team gives him little support every time he takes the mound. His fantasy value is solid, but owners need to hope the Mariners offense decides to give him some run support.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersMonday 6/1, 11:39 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn pitched well in Monday's 1-0 loss to the Orioles at Safeco Field as he only allowed one earned run on six hits over seven innings. He had one walk with three strikeouts.

Our View: This was a strong performance for Washburn, and it is a shame that he was forced to take a loss due to no run support from his teammates. He now has a losing record at 3-4, and has gone seven straight starts without a win.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersTuesday 5/26, 11:54 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn was very good on Tuesday, but his bullpen could not deliver him a win as the Mariners fell to the A's 4-3. Washburn went six innings and did not allow a run on six hits while walking one and striking out four.

Our View: Washburn ran into some tough luck tonight, as he deserved to get himself a win. Miguel Batista gave up four runs in relief, costing Washburn his win. Tough break, but he has been solid this season and should be used in all leagues.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersFriday 5/22, 8:08 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn will not start on Saturday as originally expected due to tightness in his left knee, according to the Seattle Times. He will instead make the start on Tuesday at Oakland. The injury also bothered him some in his last start. Manager Don Wakamatsu says that there is no concern of it developing into a major injury. Garrett Olson will start on Saturday instead.

Our View: Washburn got off to a strong start this season, but he has now allowed 10 runs in his last two starts. The extra time off should be good for more than just his knee.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersTuesday 5/19, 12:29 AM CT
Jarrod Washburn surrendered six runs on seven hits and two walks while suffering his third loss in Monday's 10-6 game with the Angels.

Our View: Washburn's last three decisions have all resulted in losses. The southpaw has had five solid outings in his eight starts this season. He's still worth employing in spot starts, but lately he's looked a lot like the Jarrod Washburn we all expected.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 5/13, 11:11 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn was decent on Wednesday, but his team lost to the Rangers 6-5 in eleven innings. Washburn went six innings and allowed four runs on seven hits while walking four and striking out five.

Our View: Washburn has been very good this season, and although he wasn't great tonight, he wasn't terrible either. Washburn has earned his status as a quality pitcher in all leagues, and he should be utilized.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersThursday 5/7, 4:24 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn was the tough luck loser on Thursday as the Mariners fell to the Royals 3-1. Washburn went seven innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits while striking out five.

Our View: Washburn has been a bit of a surprise this season, and he continues to be very good every time he takes the mound. His record is at 3-2, but it probably should be much better than that considering his 2.68 ERA. He should be owned in all leagues at this point, but beware of him coming back to earth when his team begins to do the same.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSaturday 5/2, 11:27 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn had a solid outing in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the A's at Safeco Field, as he only allowed one earned run on five hits over seven innings. He fired six strikeouts with two walks.

Our View: Washburn pitched very well tonight, and it is a shame his teammates did not provide enough offensive support to win. He was dealt a no-decision and is 3-1 over five starts.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSunday 4/26, 7:10 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn finally got burned. He was tagged for six runs on eight hits and three walks over 5.1 innings on Sunday. He was handed his first loss of the season and the Mariners got embarrassed to the tune of 8-0 by the Angels.

Our View: Washburn was excellent in his first three starts this season, which had a lot to do with the Mariners' hot start. We didn't expect that to last too long, and now he looks more like the Jarrod Washburn of old.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersTuesday 4/21, 11:45 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn looked good for the third straight time this season as he struck out nine hitters in seven innings and the Mariners beat the Rays 4-2 on Tuesday. He allowed five hits, three walks, and two earned runs while improving to 3-0.

Our View: Washburn has gotten off to an unforeseen excellent start in 2009. Not only is he 3-0, but he's averaged seven innings per outing and has a 1.71 ERA and a 0.86 WHIP against the Twins, Angels, and Rays. While we suspect that this will probably be his best month of the season, he's been too good to let sit on the waiver wire.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSaturday 4/18, 10:49 AM CT
Jarrod Washburn has been dealing with the flu for a few days, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: The ailment has drained his strength, but he is expected to be fine, and ready to go for his next scheduled start.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersThursday 4/9, 3:11 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn threw eight scoreless innings, with five hits allowed, in Thursday's 2-0 win at Minnesota, with one walk and four strikeouts.

Our View: This was a strong performance against a solid team on their home turf. All five hits allowed were singles.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSaturday 4/4, 12:07 AM CT
Jarrod Washburn pitched five innings against the Rockies in his final spring start Friday. He allowed five runs on 10 hits in five innings.

Our View: Washburn did strike out five, but they also played a factor in his astronomical pitch count. He threw 97 pitches over the course of his five innings. The one positive to take away from this start is that 67 of those pitches were strikes.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSunday 3/29, 11:40 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn allowed seven runs on 13 hits in six innings against the Royals on Sunday.

Our View: Any shot Washburn had at getting drafted in fantasy leagues because of a semi-promising spring more than likely just went out the window. Washburn struggled to keep pitches down, however, his one possible saving grace may be that he pitched okay over his final four innings.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 3/18, 11:27 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn got the win Wednesday after scattering seven hits over 5.2 innings and allowing two earned runs. He struck out five and lowered his spring ERA to 4.85.

Our View: Washburn continues to improve with each outing, and will probably crack the Mariners rotation, but he's best left alone when it comes to drafting a fantasy team.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersThursday 3/12, 11:14 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn had another poor outing against Texas on Thursday, giving up one earned run (three total) off five hits and two walks while striking out three in three innings.

Our View: It was not as bad as his previous outing, but still clearly nothing to write home about. Seattle may not have any great options to bump Washburn out of the starting rotation, especially if Brandon Morrow is unable to stay healthy, but it'd be best to steer completely clear of Washburn in your fantasy league, even in the deep AL-only varieties.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersFriday 3/6, 8:14 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn got roughed up in his inning and a third of work Friday, allowing four runs on seven hits to the A's.

Our View: Following a 5-14 season in 2008, Washburn won't have to wait long for the hook from the rotation if he begins to falter. Today's start wasn't exactly beneficial to his cause.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersMonday 3/2, 6:24 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn allowed just one hit and no runs over two innings against the White Sox on Monday. He did not walk or strike out anybody.

Our View: Washburn should fill a rotation spot for the Mariners as long as he is healthy. The left-hander rarely strikes out any one though, and he is fairly hittable.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersTuesday 2/3, 10:39 AM CT
The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports that the Mariners are looking to shed some salary from the team's cap by trading left-handed starter Jarrod Washburn, possibly to the Minnesota Twins. Washburn is scheduled to make $10.35 million this coming season, with the M's reportedly responsible for a portion of it.

Our View: One report claims the Mariners have talked to the Twins about sending Washburn and catcher Jeff Clement to Minnesota for outfielder Delmon Young.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 9/17, 6:41 PM CT
The Seattle Mariners will likely shut down pitcher Jarrod Washburn for the rest of the season because of a strained abdominal muscle according to the Associated Press. The 34-year-old lefty made a one-inning relief appearance Tuesday night at Kansas City, his first outing since hurting himself July 30 in a start at Cleveland. "I felt it warming up and on every pitch I threw, but I put up a zero and argued to stay in," Washburn said Wednesday. "(Trainer) Rick Griffin noticed I was changing my arm angle a little and that’s not something you want to see. You don’t want to mess with anything like that. You do, that you’re risking further injury. They’re smarter than I am. They said ‘no more.’ I guess I’m done for the year."

Our View: Washburn lost his last five decisions as a starter after winning July 27 at Toronto. He is 5-14 with a 4.69 ERA. He has not been very effective since 2005 and we do not recommend him on fantasy rosters going forward.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSunday 9/14, 10:59 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn, on the sidelines for the past couple of weeks with a torn abdominal muscle, could return to the hill on Tuesday, according to the Mariners Official Website. "He will possibly be available to pitch on Tuesday," Mariners manager Jim Riggleman said. "[Brandon] Morrow will start the game, but Wash might get some work out of the bullpen and we'll see how we can work him back into the rotation after that."

Our View: Washburn is a terrible fantasy option even when healthy, so running him out there when he is less than 100% is pretty much suicide.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSunday 9/7, 11:47 AM CT
The Seattle Times reports Washburn has a torn abdominal muscle with a small hole in it that will keep him out for at least a week.

Our View: The soonest he will return is against the Angels next weekend. This seems like a good week to keep Washburn benched.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSaturday 8/30, 7:32 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn hurled 6.2 scoreless innings, with only three hits allowed, in Saturday's 4-3 win over Cleveland. He issued four walks but also had eight strikeouts. He exited the game with a 1-0 lead, but the Indians tied it in the ninth inning, and Washburn had to settle for a no decision rather than a win for his strong effort.

Our View: He didn't win, but still snapped a five-game losing streak, and has something positive to build upon heading into September.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersMonday 8/18, 10:57 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn was blasted for eight runs on seven hits and two walks over 4 1/3 innings Monday in a blowout loss to the White Sox.

Our View: Think the M's wish they would've bartered Washburn when they could have? The lefty has a 7.36 ERA in four starts since the deadline.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersFriday 8/15, 5:34 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn is upset that the Mariners weren't able to work out a deal with the Twins, according to the Seattle Times. The lefty has a home in Minnesota and would move from a cellar dweller to a contending team. "If the rumors are accurate, it's too bad,'' he said. "It would have been ideal. It would have been perfect. It would have gotten me to a place that's contending and it's in my own damn backyard.'' One rumor had the Twins offering up Boof Bonser in return. "If that was the case, how much more do you think you're going to get? A young guy with a great arm who's cheap.''

Our View: Washburn really hasn't had a very good year, but teams are still beating down the door to acquire him. The M's aren't going to get more than a guy like Bonser given Washburn's salary, so it appears Jarrod will remain in the Pacific Northwest.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 8/13, 10:47 PM CT
We are receiving reports that indicate Mariners' LHP Jarrod Washburn and outfielder Raul Ibanez were both claimed off waivers today, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

Our View: The claiming teams are not yet known, but the Mariners have until 1:30 p.m. Thursday to work out a deal with those respective clubs. Rosenthal suggests the Rays may be seeking Ibanez but he fails to mention thoughts on Washburn. Once we get more news, we'll pass it along.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 8/13, 12:01 AM CT
Seattle couldn't get the offense going to support a strong pitching effort from LHP Jarrod Washburn, pitching seven innings to allow four runs (only one earned) on seven hits with no walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: Washburn moves to 5-12 on the season, including a 4.58 ERA. He's suffered five losses over his last seven starts, though he's allowed four or more runs just twice during that span.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersMonday 8/11, 9:22 AM CT
Jarrod Washburn is on the White Sox radar following the loss of starter Jose Contreras, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Washburn was placed on waivers, and though he remains with Seattle, any team that wishes to trade for him must put in a claim and wait until Tuesday when the waivers expire.

Our View: DJ Carrasco is expected to take Contreras' next turn in the rotation if the Sox don't acquire a replacement, like Washburn, who was 5-11 with a 4.76 ERA and 1.48 WHIP with Seattle this season.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSaturday 8/9, 8:27 AM CT
Seattle hurler Jarrod Washburn was put on waivers, and though he remains with Seattle, any team that wishes to trade for him must put in a claim and wait until Tuesday when the waivers expire, according to the New York Post.

Our View: This means that Washburn could still be moved, and possibly to the Yankees. Either way, he holds little fantasy value.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSaturday 8/2, 12:06 AM CT
Jarrod Washburn allowed all of eight runs over his last four starts, but on this night he was pounded for six runs over 4.2 innings in his 10th loss of the season.

Our View: Washurn's ERA skyrocketed to 4.77 as perhaps the letdown of not being moved to the Yankees got to him. Whatever happened it ended a run of eight outings in nine appearances in which he allowed two or fewer runs.

SI's Jon Heyman is reporting that the Yankees may get Jarrod Washburn after all. The Mariners, at least according to Heyman, relented when they traded Arthur Rhodes to Florida, as the Hernandez offer had reportedly been on the table for weeks. The Yanks hope that since the M's relented on one trade, they may do so on another.

Our View: The Yanks are offering to pick up the rest of the $14 million remaining on Washburn's contract through 2009 while also sending the M's a middling prospect.

The Mariners apparently don't realize that Jarrod Washburn isn't that good. After a deal that would send the lefty to the Yankees died down, the M's asked the Rockies for outfielder Dexter Fowler and reliever Casey Weathers in exchange for Washburn, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Seattle also wanted starter Jon Niese and/or outfielder Fernando Martinez from the Mets.

Our View: The Mariners aren't going to get anywhere with those kinds of demands.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 7/30, 11:06 AM CT
The Denver Post reports that the Rockies are interested in Jarrod Washburn.

Our View: The club is also said to be interested in Josh Fogg and Tim Redding to shore up their rotation.

A source in touch with the Yankees and Mariners said late Monday afternoon that a deal for Jarrod Washburn is not going to happen, according to the NY Post. "It's dead," the source said. "They want quality and want (the Yankees) to pay all the money, too. And that's not going to happen."

Our View: The Post notes that there's still plenty of time to get a deal done, and given Washburn's salary, he is a candidate to be dealt after the non-waiver deadline.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSunday 7/27, 4:05 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn, a name that has been rumored in trade talks this weekend, drove up his value on Sunday. He lasted eight innings and allowed four hits and two walks while giving up just one earned run. The run came off a John McDonald solo shot in the fifth.

Our View: After a May that saw him post a 9.30 ERA, Washburn now has two consecutive months of less than a 3.00 ERA. Still, it's hard to believe that he has simply just become good again. Expect him to run out of gas at some point in the second half.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSaturday 7/26, 11:09 AM CT
Reports indicate the Yankees, while working as one of the busier teams in this year's trade market, are not done, actively seeking a deal to add lefty Jarrod Washburn , according to the Star Ledger.

Our View: Dan Graziano reports the Yanks and Mariners continue to have serious discussions about a deal that would bring Washburn to the Bronx. The Yankees would like to put disappointing lefty Kei Igawa in the deal, but Seattle's not sold on him yet. The Mariners are looking for some outfield help, and the Yankees might talk about players such as Melky Cabrera, Brett Gardner or Justin Christian in the right deal. Seattle asked about Austin Jackson but was told no. Washburn does have a no-trade clause that would allow him to block a trade to the Yankees, but there's some sense that he would waive it for a chance at a pennant race.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersThursday 7/24, 9:04 AM CT
Jarrod Washburn will consider waiving his no-trade clause according to the Seattle Post Intelligencer. "I love it here in Seattle," he said. "But at the same time I love to win. I would have to strongly consider (waiving his veto) if it came to me." Washburn probably would most like to go to Milwaukee, his hometown. It's just not clear the Brewers have the ability to add another pitcher after having already traded for CC Sabathia. Rumors of a deal with the Yankees remain strong.

Our View: With $14 million due over the next two seasons, the Mariners are eager to part with the veteran. Expect him to be dealt prior to the trade deadline.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 7/23, 5:30 PM CT
The Jarrod Washburn to the Yankees trade talk is gaining steam with the proposed deal now likely to include Jose Vidro, according to the Seattle Post Intelligencer.

Our View: This deal is really about money as Washburn is due about $14 million over the next two seasons. The report centers around the idea of the Yankees swapping their high priced left handed failure, Kei Igawa, to the Mariners along with his $14 million in remaining salary. Stay tuned.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersTuesday 7/22, 3:44 PM CT
The Yankees may be interested in Seattle starting pitcher Jarrod Washburn, reports Buster Olney of ESPN.com.

Our View: Although this wouldn't be a blockbuster deal, Washburn has been throwing better the past two months. He has posted a 2.93 ERA in June and a 3.16 ERA in July.

LHP Jarrod Washburn is set to return to the mound after missing eight days with the flu, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The flu bug, which swept through the Washburn family during the All-Star break, has been conquered, and he said the illness cost him three pounds -- and postponed his first start of the second half by two days. Washburn returns to the mound on Monday night in the Mariners' series opener against the Red Sox.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSaturday 7/19, 1:14 AM CT
Rumors out of Seattle suggest several teams have contacted the Mariners and may be interested in trading for the services of LHP Jarrod Washburn , according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Our View: Washburn presents an intriguing commodity, touting one of the hotter hands in the league that happens to be attached to a left arm. Philly had called but is out of the picture following the trade for Joe Blanton. Any team in need of a solid lefty starter (and that's any team in contention for the playoffs) may be on that list as well. We'll keep you posted as more news becomes available.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 7/16, 10:27 PM CT
Over his last seven starts Jarrod Washburn has only two wins but he has allowed more than three earned runs only once in that time for the Mariners.

Our View: Washburn certainly isn't likely to add much in the ratio categories, and his K total has never been anything to write home about either, but he is on a decent role of late which makes him worthy of starting in AL only leagues.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSaturday 7/12, 9:41 PM CT
The Mariners suffered the tough 5-4 loss to the Royals this evening, leaving a great outing from LHP Jarrod Washburn wasted. Washburn pitched six innings, allowing three runs (only one earned) on seven hits with one walk and one strikeout.

Our View: Washburn walked with no decision and missed a shot to get his third win in four starts due to poor relief pitching. Washburn has lowered his walk totals over recent starts and seems to be rounding into form.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersTuesday 7/8, 12:03 AM CT
Jarrod Washburn suffered his eighth loss of the season in an eight inning complete game against the A's on Monday night. Washburn allowed four runs on seven hits, walked none and struck out five.

Our View: The death blow for Washburn was the two-run home run to first baseman, Wes Bankston, the first of his career.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersThursday 7/3, 9:36 AM CT
After a solid six inning start in which he allowed only two earned runs, Jarrod Washburn could be trade bait for teams in need of starting pitching depth, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Washburn has lowered his ERA from 6.99 on May 21 to 5.08. He isn't a great option for fantasy teams at the moment, but getting traded to a team in the National League would increase his value.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersThursday 7/3, 12:05 AM CT
Seattle LHP Jarrod Washburn picked up his fourth win of the season, helping his Mariners earned the hard-fought 4-2 win over Toronto. Washburn pitched six innings, allowing two runs (both earned) on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSaturday 6/28, 12:20 AM CT
Jarrod Washburn enjoyed a solid outing in Friday's 5-2 win over the Padres, as he only gave up two earned runs on seven hits over 7.2 innings, with one walk and two strikeouts.

Our View: He earned his third win of the season, and snapped a three-game streak of no decisions. He has allowed two or less earned runs in four-straight starts as well.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSunday 6/15, 8:22 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn allowed two earned runs on eight hits over six innings in Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Nationals in inter-league play, with four walks and two strikeouts. He ended his night with a no-decision.

Our View: That was the sixth time that he allowed two or less earned runs in a game this season, but still holds a 2-7 record with a 5.83 ERA.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersThursday 5/29, 12:07 AM CT
The Tigers have feasted on left-handed pitching this year, so the Mariners will skip southpaw Jarrod Washburn in the rotation this weekend when the M's play Detroit, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Washburn has lost his last seven decision against Detroit, and he gave up nine runs in 2 1/3 innings when he faced them last week.

Our View: The Mariners will go with Carlos Silva, Felix Hernandez and Miguel Batista this weekend, and Washburn will be pushed back to next Monday, when he will face the Angels.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 5/14, 5:31 PM CT
Seattle starter Jarrod Washburn earned his first career save as the Mariners defeated the Rangers 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon.

Our View: Washburn was expected to start on Friday against the Padres so whether the Seattle rotation stays on schedule is a question yet to be answered.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSunday 5/11, 4:05 PM CT
Not content to cruise along with a 2-5 record and 5.68 ERA, Jarrod Washburn has added a split-finger fastball to his arsenal. "He doesn't have that out pitch, and has been working on a split," manager John McLaren tells MLB.com. "At this stage of his career, maybe [the splitter] can make a difference for him."

Our View: If this doesn't work, Washburn's next step may be the knuckleball. AL-only fantasy owners should hope this new pitch makes a difference.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 5/7, 8:20 AM CT
Jarrod Washburn was still sore on Tuesday but said his calf muscle felt as good as he'd hoped and that he'd make his next start, this according to the Seattle Times. Mariners manager John McLaren said after the game that he'd spoken to Washburn about his situation and is fairly confident the lefty will take the mound again on Saturday.

Our View: Washburn felt the muscle "pop" late in his win Monday night. It was the same calf he'd torn to end his 2006 season, but there's apparently a big difference between the two injuries. "The last time I did it, there was a big hole in there," he said, adding that he could stick his finger through the hole in the muscle by pressing on it. The hole is smaller this time and Washburn said a team doctor who examined him before Tuesday's game told him scar tissue had torn away from the spot of his previous injury. There was also a ligament in the calf muscle area that might have torn and caused the popping sensation.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersMonday 5/5, 11:40 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn allowed three runs on four hits, walked none and struck out three as the Mariners beat the Rangers 7-3 on Monday night.

Our View: Washburn pitched well in Safeco on Monday night and deserved the win. His offense gave him a big 7-0 lead after three innings allowing the left-hander to attach the strike zone.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 4/30, 9:48 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn allowed six runs, five earned, to fall to 1-4 on the season on Wednesday night. Washburn struck out a season-high seven batters but he also permitted six hits and two walks to pick up his third straight loss.

Our View: Washburn is nothing more than an average AL Only starter at this point, and really, he shouldn't be in your rotation in a mixed leagues unless it is a very, very deep league.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersTuesday 4/22, 6:50 PM CT
The Mariners have moved Jarrod Washburn and Miguel Batista up in the rotation, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Washburn will pitch on Thursday against the Orioles, and Batista will face the A's on Friday.

Our View: Both hurlers will be working on a normal, five-day rotation thanks to the off-day on Monday. This news shouldn't really affect fantasy lineups.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersSaturday 4/19, 10:35 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn had his worst game of the year as he allowed four runs in six innings to pick up his third loss. Washburn didn't walk a single Angel on the night, but he did allow 10 hits with only one K.

Our View: Washburn continues to be a middling starting pitcher who is barely above replacement average in his performance. Honestly, he has no place on a mixed league staff at this point of his career.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 4/9, 8:54 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn put forth a stellar effort in support of Seattle’s 7-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Washburn the 105 pitches over seven innings, 65 counting for strikes, allowing just one run on six hits. Washburn now sits at 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Detroit TigersMonday 3/24, 7:31 PM CT
Jarrod Washburn worked seven scoreless innings on Monday despite dealing with a sore lower back. Washburn will be one of those pitchers who likely gets shuffled between the starting rotation and free agency this season given his inability to pile up strikeouts or keep his ratios low. His margin for error is razor thin.
