Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsTuesday 8/4, 8:46 PM CT
Sidney Ponson has been designated for assignment by the Royals, according to MLB.com. He was moved to make room for Kyle Davies on the roster.

Our View: He will have the option of pitching for Triple-A Omaha if he clears waivers with Kansas City. Ponson holds a dismal 7.36 ERA over 58.2 innings (nine starts) with the Royals this season, and won't be missed in fantasy leagues.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsSunday 8/2, 11:19 AM CT
The Royals have demoted Sidney Ponson to the minors, according to the Kansas City Star's Bob Dutton.

Our View: Big shocker here... not. At 1-7 with a 7.36 ERA, "P'zone" is clearly not a viable MLB starter. Kyle Davies was recalled to fill both his roster and rotational spot.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsFriday 7/31, 9:58 PM CT
Sidney Ponson was lit up for seven earned runs on eight hits over a mere 4.1 innings in Friday's 8-2 loss at Tampa Bay. He had three walks and two strikeouts.

Our View: Ponson falls to 1-7, and his ERA rises to 7.36. He is not fit for fantasy duty outside of deeper AL-only leagues.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsSunday 7/26, 5:24 PM CT
Sidney Ponson somehow allowed no runs in six innings of work on Sunday, but took a no-decision as the Royals lost 7-2 to the Rangers at home.

Our View: He had allowed 13 earned runs in his previous nine innings of work. His Sunday triumph managed to lower his ERA to 6.79 and WHIP to 1.71.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsTuesday 7/21, 7:31 PM CT
Sidney Ponson was lit up for six earned runs on eight hits over five innings in Tuesday's 8-5 loss to the Angels at Kauffman Stadium. He had two walks and two strikeouts.

Our View: Ponson falls to 1-6, and his ERA rises to 7.63. The 32-year-old hurler is not fit for fantasy duty.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsMonday 7/20, 9:24 PM CT
The Angels and Royals' game on Monday has been postponed due to rain and rescheduled as part of a double-header tomorrow on Tuesday, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Expect Ponson to start one of tomorrow's two games, though it's tough to merit starting him in even the deepest of AL-only formats.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsSaturday 7/18, 4:33 PM CT
Sidney Ponson has been activated from the 15-day DL following his bout with a strained right elbow, according to the Kansas City Star. Gil Meche (back spasms) has been placed on the 15-day DL as the corresponding move.

Our View: Ponson will replace the injured Meche in the Royals' rotation, and will make his next start Monday against the Angels. That will mark his first outing since May 29, and he looks to be an unstable fantasy option - especially against the AL West leading Angels.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 7/8, 10:29 AM CT
According to MLB.com, Royals' starter Sidney Ponson pitched eight shutout innings in Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday. Ponson now has a 2.42 ERA in 26 innings with the Triple-A squad.

Our View: Ponson is starting to look pretty solid in Triple-A, and he could get the call from the Royals soon if he keeps pitching well. His fantasy value isn't great, but if he can translate this success to the major league level, he could be a decent AL-only option.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsMonday 6/29, 2:48 PM CT
According to the Kansas City Star, Royals' pitcher Sidney Ponson may get a start on Wednesday if Gil Meche is unable to go. Ponson has made three rehab starts in Triple-A while recovering from a right elbow strain.

Our View: Interesting timing here by the Royals considering the news that Ponson tested positive for stimulants at the WBC just broke a few days ago. Ponson will not have any fantasy value even if he does get the start, so no need to think about adding him.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsFriday 6/26, 3:24 PM CT
ESPN.com is reporting that Royals' pitcher Sidney Ponson tested positive for a stimulant and an appetite suppressant during the World Baseball Classic. He will not face punishment by the league or by his team since it was not a league-administered test, but Ponson will be banned for two years from international competition.

Our View: Ponson hasn't done much as a member of the Royals this season, but these positive tests during the WBC have to be concerning for Major League Baseball. Although he doesn't face league punishment, the higher-ups can't be happy about this.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 6/17, 7:41 PM CT
Sidney Ponson threw two shutout innings in his Triple-A rehab outing on Wednesday. He started the game and allowed only one base runner while striking out two.

Our View: It's not certain if Ponson will return as a starter or a reliever, but it seems like they'll try and work him into the rotation. Regardless, he holds minimal fantasy value.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsMonday 6/15, 10:06 AM CT
Sidney Ponson had a second good bullpen session on Sunday, according to MLB.com. The right-hander has been out since May 29 due to elbow soreness.

Our View: Ponson was working out of the bullpen at the time of the injury, and that seems to be where he will remain unless another member of the staff suffers an injury. He has no fantasy value as long as he works out of the bullpen.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsThursday 6/11, 9:26 AM CT
Sidney Ponson threw long toss for the second straight day on Wednesday, according to the Kansas City Star. He will have a bullpen session on Thursday and it will mark his first pitching since shutting down on May 29 due to elbow soreness.

Our View: When Ponson returns, he may be headed to the bullpen. It remains to be seen how he will be used, but he is not likely to have much fantasy value no matter where he ends up.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsTuesday 6/9, 7:51 PM CT
Sidney Ponson threw off flat ground today for the first time since landing on the DL with a strained right elbow last week, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View: He threw 45 pitches, and will progress to a mound Thursday barring a setback. Ponson is not worth holding outside of deeper AL-only leagues, as he is not guaranteed to have a role when ready to return to Kansas City.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsTuesday 6/2, 3:22 PM CT
Sidney Ponson has been placed on the 15-day DL by the Royals due to a strained right elbow, according to the Kansas City Star. Ponson was replaced by Tony Pena, who was activated off the DL.

Our View: Ponson has been a nightmare for the Royals this season, so this may actually be good news for the team. Ponson should not be on anyone's fantasy team anywhere, but if he is on your team get rid of him now and rethink your fantasy strategy.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsSunday 5/10, 8:54 PM CT
The Royals will replace Sidney Ponson in the rotation with recently promoted Luke Hochevar, according to the Kansas City Star. Ponson will now work out of the bullpen.

Our View: Ponson is coming off his best start of the season when he allowed only one run in 7.1 innings against the Mariners on Wednesday. However, Hochevar has dominated Triple-A this far and could permanently take Ponson's spot in the rotation.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 5/6, 11:10 PM CT
Sidney Ponson picked up his first victory of the season as he held the Mariners to just one run in his 7.1 innings on the hill. Ponson struck out just one on the night as he allowed eight hits and one walk.

Our View: Ponson was in danger of losing his place in the rotation, especially with Luke Hochevar pitching well at Triple-A, but this outing will certainly keep him in the rotation for now. Still, he shouldn't be in your lineup as he is much more likely to hurt your team than he is to repeat this effort any time soon.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsSaturday 5/2, 1:14 AM CT
Sidney Ponson continued his struggles on Friday, allowing seven runs in his 4.1 innings pitched. He is nw 0-4 on the year.

Our View: You have to wonder how much longer Ponson will remain in the Royals' rotation. He is struggling mightily and the Royals have a starter ready to step in. Luke Hochever is impressing in Triple-A, so don't be surprised if he is in the rotation before long.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsSunday 4/26, 4:52 PM CT
Sidney Ponson actually pitched pretty well on Sunday, but was stuck with the loss anyway as his Royals were one-upped by the Tigers 3-2. Ponson went eight innings, allowing three runs on six hits and struck out seven.

Our View: Ponson is 0-3 on the season, but he did a lot of things right on Sunday. He didn't walk a single batter and his seven Ks were a big surprise. His performance lowered his ERA to 5.79, but he likely wasn't in a lot of fantasy rotations due to how bad he's been in every other start this year.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 4/15, 4:43 PM CT
Sidney Ponson threw a decent game on Wednesday, going six innings and allowing two runs on six hits. He fanned three and walked three, and did not factor into the decision.

Our View: This was a slightly better performance than his last outing, but he is still not worthy of being a fantasy option. This start was probably on the better end of what to expect from Ponson.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsFriday 4/10, 7:08 PM CT
Sidney Ponson got touched for four runs in six innings and took the loss against the Yankees on Friday. He allowed six hits and three walks in the start and was stuck with the loss.

Our View: The Royals are desperate for pitching, which is probably the only reason Ponson still has a job. He should be left off all fantasy rosters, as he has a penchant for getting rocked.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsFriday 4/10, 2:16 PM CT
Sidney Ponson has had his contract purchased by the Royals and will start their home opener on Friday, according to the Kansas City Star. He replaces the injured Jose Guillen on the 25-man roster.

Our View: We're not sure why the Royals think it's a better idea to have Sir Sidney (or Horacio Ramirez) in the rotation over the likes of Luke Hochevar or Brian Bannister, but there's a reason why they haven't made the playoffs in nearly 25 years.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 4/1, 3:39 PM CT
Despite a spring ERA of 9.58, Sidney Ponson has been named a member of the Royals opening day rotation, according to MLB.com. He will be their fourth starter and pitch the home opener against the Yankees on April 12.

Our View: There's really no reason to consider Ponson for your fantasy squad. He has provided no value since 2003, and frankly, we're shocked to find he still has a job in the major leagues.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsTuesday 3/31, 7:18 PM CT
Sidney Ponson was rocked again on Tuesday, allowing seven runs on seven hits ans two walks over five innings. He received the loss and his spring ERA now stands at an obese 9.58.

Our View: You think the Royals are beginning to regret their gutsy Sidney Ponson signing? We do.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsTuesday 3/31, 1:30 PM CT
Sidney Ponson projects to be the No. 4 starter in the Royals' rotation after the team sent Luke Hochevar to Triple-A, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View: The 32-year-old vet is not a solid pitcher, and should be left for deeper AL-only leagues. He holds a career 4.95 ERA.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsThursday 3/26, 6:32 PM CT
Sidney Ponson got worked over by the Mariners on Thursday. He allowed six runs (four earned), eight hits and two walks in just 5.1 innings.

Our View: El Sid now has a 6.75 ERA in Cactus League play and is starting to look like not the greatest choice to join the Royals rotation. Although, they are the Royals and need all the help they can get.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsTuesday 3/24, 8:11 PM CT
Pitcher Sidney Ponson has had his next spring start switched from a minor league outing to a major league showing on Thursday, MLB.com reports.

Our View: Good idea. The Royals should probably see if Ponson can get out major league hitters before they strongly consider him for the No. 5 spot in the rotation.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsTuesday 3/17, 4:52 PM CT
According to the Kansas City Star, The Royals have signed well traveled free agent pitcher Sidney Ponson. An agreement was reached on a minor league contract that includes an invite to big league camp.

Our View: El Sid could add depth to a so-so Royals rotation, assuming he doesn't punch another judge. Ponson could be worth a look in deep AL-only leagues if he makes the cut this spring.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsFriday 12/19, 10:24 AM CT
Sidney Ponson has reached a settlement agreement with the Orioles regarding their three-year dispute over $11.2 million that the club refused to pay the hurler after he was cut in 2005 for off-the-field altercations, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: Neither Ponson or the Orioles commented on the details of the settlement.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 9/3, 12:47 PM CT
Sidney Ponson has struggled over his last three starts, but manager Joe Girardi indicated he will remain in the rotation, according to the NY Daily News. Girardi believes he can bounce back and said, "Sidney has done it before. He didn't have the sinker Monday that he's had, so we have to get that back. He'll go back to the bullpen and see if he can straighten things out."

Our View: His next scheduled start is Saturday against Seattle. Girardi still has faith in him, but fantasy owners should not. He only pitched 9.2 innings over his last three starts, with 17 earned runs allowed.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsMonday 9/1, 4:20 PM CT
Sidney Ponson lasted only three innings on Monday in a no-decision against the Tigers as he was pounded for nine hits and seven runs (six earned). Only a pathetic outing by the Tigers staff allowed Ponson to escape this one without a loss.

Our View: Ponson has allowed 17 earned runs in his last three starts spanning just 9.2 innings (15.82 ERA). If you're still running him out there, you just haven't been paying attention as he has been awful of late. There is no reason to expect him to turn things around down the stretch as he simply isn't a good major league pitcher.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsThursday 8/21, 10:04 PM CT
Sidney Ponson gave up eight hits and seven earned runs in only two innings of work in Thursday's 14-3 loss to the Blue Jays.

Our View: The Yankees rotation is horrible. This isn't gonna change anytime soon. Expect Ponson to keep starting for the Yankees due to their lack of options.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsMonday 8/11, 11:02 PM CT
Sidney Ponson fell to 7-3 on the season as the Twins scored four runs off the portly hurler in his 7.2 innings of work.

Our View: Since becoming a Yankee Ponson is 3-2 with a 4.72 ERA and a 1.51 WHIP. Just goes to show you how desperate the Yankees are that they continue to run out there a hurler who is producing at a level that is worse than average for a major league pitcher. Don't make the same mistake.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsFriday 8/1, 9:18 PM CT
Sidney Ponson was masterful on Friday night shutting out the Angels for seven innings in the Yankees 1-0 loss to the Angels.

Our View: Mariano Rivera blew the game in the ninth inning after Ponson allowed just two hits and four walks over seven innings. We wouldn't look for a repeat performance any time soon out of Ponson, but on this night he gave the Angels all they could handle.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsSunday 7/27, 9:51 PM CT
Sidney Ponson lasted just four innings against the Red Sox on Sunday against the Yankees. He gave up seven runs on 10 hits and one walk. he surrendered one home run - to David Ortiz who hit his first since returning from a lengthy DL stint with a wrist injury.

Our View: Ponson didn't have his sinker working tonight and the result was his worst start of the season. He is always a risky play as his 1.61 ERA would indicate. We do not recommend him for fantasy owners.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsMonday 7/21, 9:43 PM CT
Sidney Ponson improved to 6-1 after a so-so outing against the Twins on Monday. He scattered nine hits and allowed three runs over 5.2 innings.

Our View: Ponson continues to walk too many people and give up too many hits, but the Yankees always offer a shot to win.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 7/9, 3:45 PM CT
Sidney Ponson had a strong outing against the Rays on Wednesday, in a close 2-1 win. Ponson only surrendered one earned run on five hits over six innings, with two walks and four strikeouts. The lone run came on a Carlos Pena homer.

Our View: He ended the day with a no decision, and is 2-0 over his last five starts, and merits a look in AL-only leagues if you need help at the position.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsThursday 7/3, 9:22 AM CT
Despite giving up seven earned runs in five innings of work, Sidney Ponson will make another start for the Yankees, according to the New York Post. "He's going to make another start," said Yankees manager Joe Girardi.

Our View: Ponson pitched well for the Rangers before being released, but his start Wednesday was not a good sign. Nothing in his peripheral numbers point to his continued success, not with a WHIP of 1.62, or the fact that he strikes out just four batters per nine innings while walking three per nine.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 7/2, 10:04 AM CT
The New York Daily reports that less than a month after being cut by Texas, Sidney Ponson will have a chance to get a little payback Wednesday, when he takes the mound against the Rangers. Ponson didn't speak to New York media Tuesday. He claimed that he doesn't talk the day before he pitches. He did, however, offer up a few words to squash any idea that he had hard feelings saying "Look, they are just another team,"

Our View: Before Tuesday night's game, Rangers' skipper Ron Washington addressed Ponson's situation. "Of course he could pitch, he just didn't fit here," Washington said. "That was something that happened that was unavoidable and we wish him all the luck in the world. The Yankees need pitching and they picked him up. We never said he couldn't pitch. He will do well. I just hope not (Wednesday)." The Rangers designated Ponson for assignment on June 6, with Daniels citing him for "disrespecting teammates and club personnel."
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsFriday 6/27, 10:30 PM CT
Sidney Ponson made a strong impression in his first start with the Yankees in Friday's 9-0 win over the Mets (in the second game of a double-header), as he threw six scoreless innings, with five hits allowed, and four strikeouts.

Our View: Ponson could potentially push Dan Giese out of the Yankees' rotation, and is worth targeting in AL-only leagues if you need help at the position, namely for depth.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsThursday 6/26, 9:48 AM CT
Sidney Ponson will start the second game of Friday's double-header against the Mets, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View: Manager Joe Girardi has no concerns about Ponson's recent off-field issues, and will make his own evaluation of the pitcher. Ponson holds a 4-1 record this season, with a 3.88 ERA, and could potentially push Dan Giese out of the rotation if he proves to be effective, starting Friday night.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsMonday 6/23, 10:18 AM CT
Manager Joe Girardi indicated that recently acquired pitcher Sidney Ponson could start a game in the Yankees' double-header on Friday, according to the NY Post. Girardi said he is one of the candidates for Friday, along with Alan Home, Kei Igawa, and Jeff Karstens.

Our View: If Ponson does start and fares well on Friday, he could potentially push Dan Giese from the rotation.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 6/18, 5:51 PM CT
Fox Sports reports that the New York Yankees have signed free-agent right-hander Sidney Ponson to a minor-league contract.

Our View: Ponson was recently released by the Texas Rangers, who cited his off and on-field conduct as a decision to designate him for assignment. No word yet on where Ponson fits, and when he might join the rotation.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsMonday 6/16, 3:05 PM CT
Sidney Ponson has been placed on waivers by the Rangers, according to the AP. The team also activated minor league pitcher Thomas Diamond from the DL, and he was optioned to Double-A Frisco

Our View: Ponson was 4-1 over nine starts with the Rangers, but held a 3.88 ERA and poor 1.56 WHIP and fell out of favor with the team when he rubbed management the wrong way.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsMonday 6/9, 5:45 PM CT
It had been rumored that the Astros could be interested in Sidney Ponson, who was recently designated for assignment by the Rangers after rubbing teammates and management the wrong way. However, Ponson will not end up in Houston, according to the Houston Chronicle. The Astros feel the rotund righty brings too much baggage.

Our View: We can't blame the 'Stros for not pursuing Sir Sidney. Personal issues aside, he was pitching over his head with the Rangers and was already beginning to come back down to earth.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsFriday 6/6, 6:14 PM CT
The Rangers have cut ties with Sidney Ponson for what GM Jon Daniels calls "disrespectful and adverse reactions to situations unbecoming of teammates," according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: It's not clear yet what Ponson did, but he has a history of a volatile temper and rubbing his teammates the wrong way. He was 4-1 with a 3.88 ERA in nine starts, but his 1.56 WHIP and 4.0 K/9 rate suggested he was due for a fall back to reality.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 6/4, 11:33 PM CT
Sidney Ponson, who was starting on three days rest for the first time in his career, was the victim of shoddy defense and funny bounces and the Ranger lost to the Indians 15-9 in embarrassing fashion. Ponson allowed six runs (two earned because of three errors by his teammates) and eight hits.

Our View: Texas is the graveyard for castoff pitchers, and Ponson fits the bill. His 3.63 ERA coming into the game is a typo. His 1.50 WHIP, however, rings true. It is just a matter of time before Ponson's earned runs near five per game.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsSaturday 5/31, 10:35 PM CT
Sidney Ponson gave up four runs on nine hits over seven innings on Saturday, but still claimed his fourth win of the season, as Texas outscored Oakland 8-4. He didn't issue any walks, and had four strikeouts.

Our View: Ponson is 4-1 with a 3.83 ERA over eight starts. The Rangers' offense has offered strong support for Ponson, as they average nearly eight runs over his eight starts.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsMonday 5/26, 9:47 PM CT
Texas right-hander Sidney Ponson surrendered five runs on 12 hits in five innings in Monday's loss to Tampa Bay. Ponson walked three and struck out only one.

Our View: No one expected Ponson to continue the numbers he produced in his first six starts for the Rangers (3-0/2.95 ERA /1.31 WHIP), and outings like Monday will be more the norm in the future than that of his April and early May performances.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsMonday 5/26, 1:31 PM CT
Sidney Ponson will be looking to remain unbeaten when he takes the hill against the Rays today, according to MLB.com. Ponson is 8-8 with a 4.14 ERA in 24 career games against the Rays, but he is 3-0 with a 2.95 ERA and 1.31 WHIP over six starts in 2008.

Our View: Ponson is coming off a complete-game win over the Twins (only allowed one run on six hits), and is worth starting today if you have him on your roster.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 5/21, 10:33 PM CT
Sidney Ponson appeared to be coming back to earth after two straight poor outings, but he rebounded with another stellar start Wednesday, going the distance while allowing just one run on six hits and a walk while notching five punchouts.

Our View: Hopefully you don't need us to tell you to sell high on Sidney now if anyone's willing to take him.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 5/7, 12:07 AM CT
Sidney Ponson improved to 2-0 by befuddling the Mariners on Tuesday night. He held the M's to seven hits and one run over seven innings. Ponson also walked one and struck out two.

Our View: Opposing offenses apparently haven't figured out that they need to hit King Hippo in the belly button while his trunks are falling down. We have a hard time trusting Ponson, even though that's two strong starts in a row.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsThursday 5/1, 3:47 PM CT
Sidney Ponson was in command as he nailed down his first win of the season in Thursday's 2-1 victory over Kansas City. Ponson only allowed one run on six hits over eight innings, with two walks and five strikeouts.

Our View: While that was a strong outing today, he was only facing the unimposing Royals. He cannot be depended on while serving as a starter in the Rangers' rotation.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsSunday 4/27, 6:14 PM CT
Sidney Ponson , who gave up one earned run in 5.1 innings in his first start for Texas on Saturday night, has apparently earned another start. Texas skipper Ron Washington has Ponson penciled in to start Thursday against Kansas City.

Our View: Ponson isn't a pitcher owners want to depend on, but if there is a team that offers a favorable matchup, it is the light-hitting Royals.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsSunday 4/27, 8:28 AM CT
With a story made for a television mini-series now left in the past, RHP Sidney Ponson has found himself working as a new member of the Texas Rangers' starting rotation and earned his first start of the season yesterday in the 12-6 loss to the Minnesota Twins.

Our View: Ponson's contract was purchased from Triple-A Oklahoma and he was shoved right into the fire, lasting 5 1/3 innings in his first MLB start in nearly a year. Ponson allowed five runs (only one earned) on seven hits, striking out four and walking just one. He walked away with no decision but was a bit more impressive than we might have expected. The Rangers are desperate (obviously) for pitching assistance and it appears Ponson could be a worthy addition.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsSaturday 4/26, 8:23 AM CT
Sidney Ponson is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma, and start tonight against Minnesota, according to MLB.com. He hasn't pitched since Minnesota released him last May 12. He is being called into action, as starters Kason Gabbard and Luis Mendoza are both on the DL.

Our View: He is getting another chance with Texas, but you shouldn't give him a chance as a fantasy prospect, as he went 2-5 over seven starts in 2007, with a 6.93 ERA and 1.88 WHIP.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsSunday 3/23, 8:15 AM CT
Sidney Ponson has been sent down to minor league camp, according to Dallas News. He was aiming for the fifth rotation spot before being re-assigned.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsTuesday 3/11, 12:33 PM CT
Sidney Ponson had a bullpen session on Monday and already said that he feels like he is ready to pitch in a game, according to Dallas News. He also said that his troubles are in his past and that he has learned his lesson. He is aiming for the Rangers fifth spot in the rotation, and won't have to be ready to go until April 12.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsSunday 3/9, 1:53 PM CT
The Rangers stepped up to the proverbial plate and inked Sidney Ponson to a minor league contract on Sunday, according to SportsTicker. He threw for a number of scouts on Thursday, and the Rangers decided to give him a shot. He was 2-5 with a 6.93 ERA and 1.88 WHIP in seven starts for the Twins last season, so don't expect much, if anything, from Ponson in Texas.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsThursday 3/6, 7:04 PM CT
Taking what could be his last shot at a major league career, Sidney Ponson threw for scouts on Thursday and they were duly impressed, according to a report on MLB.com. "My mind is clear. My arm is good. I'm working hard. I'm in pretty good shape. I'm pretty happy with the way I threw today." Ponson hit 93-94 mph on the gun, and he weighed in at 248 pounds, 12 pounds below the 260 he carried when he last pitched for the Twins. Someone will certainly take a shot on Ponson, but he is a long way from having any fantasy value.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsSunday 5/13, 5:09 PM CT
On Sunday, the Twins cut ties with Sidney Ponson, who held a 6.93 ERA in seven starts this season, according to the AP. Ponson plans on heading to his home in Florida, where he hopes to get a call from another club. "I'm just going to go home and wait," Ponson said. "If nothing happens, nothing happens. No problem. I'll just go sit on the beach. ... If I do have a chance, I'll go full steam again and see what happens." It's unclear who will replace Ponson in the rotation, but the Twins have a slew of options, including Matt Garza, Scott Baker, Kevin Slowey and Glen Perkins, who is currently pitching in Minnesota's bullpen.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsMonday 3/26, 5:51 PM CT
Sidney Ponson worked six scoreless innings against his old squad, the Orioles, on Monday. He struck out three and walked none, while allowed five hits. Ponson, who is battling for a role in the Twins' starting rotation, now has a 3.94 ERA and should get one more spring start to state his case.
Sidney Ponson, P, Kansas City RoyalsFriday 3/16, 5:28 PM CT
Sidney Ponson allowed an unearned run and three hits in four innings on Friday against Baltimore. It was his first outing since March 9.
