Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsSunday 2/28, 11:57 AM CT
According to Jane Lee on Twitter, the A's have re-signed right-hander Brett Tomko to a minor league contract.

Our View: Tomko is still recovering from an arm injury and will report to minor league camp to continue his rehab. In six starts with the A's last year he won four games and posted an impressive 2.95 ERA. Expect him to get a call-up when healthy.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 2/3, 4:48 PM CT
Brett Tomko is throwing again, and has some standing offers, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: The veteran hurler would not mind returning to the Athletics or Giants. He could still work his way into a rotation, but would likely hold marginal fantasy value.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 9/17, 8:47 PM CT
Brett Tomko will be shut-down for the rest of 2009 with nerve irritation in his pitching elbow, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Though a journeyman, Tomko pitched extremely well in six starts for Oakland this season, going 4-1 with a 2.95 ERA, and could figure into their 2009 rotation plans.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 9/15, 6:07 PM CT
Brett Tomko woke up with elbow pain today after hurling a complete game shutout Monday at Texas, according to Mychael Urban's twitter page.

Our View: Tomko is dealing with an irritated nerve, and is expected to miss at least one start. Dana Eveland is a top candidate to make a spot-start in his place Sunday.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 9/14, 10:44 PM CT
Brett Tomko was in control from the hill in Monday's 9-0 win at Texas, as he only allowed five hits over nine scoreless innings. He had no walks with three strikeouts.

Our View: Tomko collected his first complete game since 2005 (with San Francisco), and his first shutout since 2004 (also with San Francisco). He earned a win in each of his last two starts with Oakland, and claimed the 100th win of his career.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 9/8, 11:13 PM CT
Brett Tomko gave up three earned runs on six hits over 5.1 innings in Tuesday's 11-3 win at Chicago. He had one walk with three strikeouts.

Our View: Tomko had a decent outing, and now has a winning record at 4-3. He needs one more win for the 100th of his career.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 9/4, 12:07 AM CT
Brett Tomko got pounded by the Mariners on Thursday in the A's 7-4 loss. Tomko went 5.2 innings and allowed six runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out two.

Our View: This was Tomko's first bad start for the A's, but this just proves that he should not be counted on for fantasy production. Even if he does stay in the rotation for the rest of the season, he is not worth any kind of fantasy look.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsSunday 8/23, 6:13 PM CT
Brett Tomko only allowed one earned run on three hits over six innings in Sunday's 9-4 win over the Tigers at McAfee Coliseum. He had two walks and fired eight strikeouts.

Our View: Tomko now has a winning record at 3-2. He hurled five scoreless innings in his last start against the Yankees, and is holding up well as a spot-starter for Oakland.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 8/17, 11:29 PM CT
Brett Tomko allowed five hits over five scoreless innings in Monday's 3-0 win over the Yankees at McAfee Coliseum. He had one walk and one strikeout.

Our View: Tomko had a nice outing against his former team in a spot-start with Oakland, but does not garner fantasy attention outside of deeper AL-only leagues.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 8/17, 3:50 PM CT
Brett Tomko has been recalled by the A's to start Monday's game against the Yankees. Tomko signed with the A's on August 5.

Our View: Tomko struggled out of the Yankees' bullpen this season, and there is no reason to think that he will be able to shut down the smoking hot offense of his former team tonight. Stay away at all cost, as there is no reason anyone should view Tomko as a fantasy option.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 8/5, 10:11 PM CT
Brett Tomko has signed a minor league deal with the Athletics, according to the Oakland Tribune.

Our View: The 36-year-old hurler was assigned to Triple-A Sacramento. He held a 5.23 ERA over 20.2 innings of relief with the Yankees this season, and his fantasy stock does not look to improve.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 7/29, 4:43 PM CT
Brett Tomko has been released by the Yankees, according to the twitter page of the Star Ledger. He was designated for assignment last week.

Our View: The 36-year-old hurler held a poor 5.23 ERA over 20.2 innings of relief with New York this season. He should continue to be ignored in fantasy leagues.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 7/21, 3:57 PM CT
Brett Tomko has been designated for assignment by the New York Yankees, according to the Twitter page of the Newark Star-Ledger. Tomko has a 5.23 ERA with the team this season.

Our View: Tomko only pitched 20.2 innings with the Yanks this season, and he wasn't overly impressive in his time with the team. He lost twice during that time, and the with the Yankees' bullpen taking shape right now there just wasn't a spot for him.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 7/4, 5:19 PM CT
Brett Tomko earned his first win since April 6, 2008 on Saturday, as the Yankees beat the Blue Jays 6-5 in 12 innings.

Our View: Tomko has an unseemly 5.21 ERA and is not a good option in leagues with holds or middle relievers.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 5/9, 5:28 PM CT
According to FOXsports.com, the Yankees have called up pitcher Brett Tomko from Triple-A. In a corresponding move they sent down righty Dave Robertson.

Our View: Tomko has been brilliant in the minor this season, allowing just one run over 13 innings and had a 1-0 record in ten appearances. The Yanks' struggling bullpen needs a boost and they feel Tomko is the answer.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 5/6, 8:00 PM CT
Brett Tomko has excelled in the minors this season allowing just one run in 13 innings while piling up 15 Ks against just four walks, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Tomko could be recalled to help out a Yankees' bullpen that has struggled of late, and now must deal with the lose of Brian Bruney for two more weeks. Consider us rather nonplussed by the talk of Tomko being anything other than an innings eater.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 3/31, 9:56 AM CT
Brett Tomko has been sent down to Triple-A by the Yankees, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View: The 37-year-old was competing for a long-relief role. He held a poor 6.30 ERA and 1.44 WHIP over 70 innings last season, and did not do enough in spring training to prove he belongs on the team.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 2/25, 5:14 PM CT
Brett Tomko started and threw two shutout innings and allowed just one hit in the Yankees' 6-1 win over the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Our View: Tomko is likely battling for a spot in the bullpen, barring any injuries. The 37-year-old was mostly terrible last season, and he will need a very good spring to stick with the club.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 2/13, 7:00 PM CT
The New York Times reports that the Yankees have signed right-hander Brett Tomko to a minor-league deal.

Our View: The 37-year-old Tomko posted a 2-7 record and a 6.30 ERA in 22 appearances, including 10 starts, with the Royals and Padres a season ago. He will likely battle for a spot in the Yanks' bullpen during spring training.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 12/19, 10:10 AM CT
The Twins have garnered interest in Brett Tomko, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View: The club is keeping him in mind as an option in case they opt to deal one of their five young starting pitchers. Tomko could also provide depth in the bullpen as a reliever.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 8/19, 4:22 PM CT
The Padres have activated pitcher Brett Tomko from the 15-day DL, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Tomko had been out since June 30 due to a strained right elbow.

Our View: Tomko can work either as a starter or a reliever, and he may need to join the rotation in place of Greg Maddux. Regardless, fantasy owners shouldn't count on this veteran.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 7/21, 9:53 PM CT
Brett Tomko threw in the bullpen on Monday. He is on the DL due to a sore right elbow. "We’ll see how he is tomorrow and determine his fate, whether he throws another bullpen or a simulated game," manager Bud Black informs the AP.

Our View: If you're waiting on Tomko to return from the DL, you must be playing in a Padres-only fantasy league.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 7/8, 7:44 PM CT
Brett Tomko has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 1, with a right elbow strain.

Our View: If there is a way for Tomko to become less relevant than he already is in fantasy, this is it.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 6/27, 6:42 PM CT
Brett Tomko has rejoined the Padres after being waived by the Royals six days ago, according to the AP. To make room on the roster, the Padres optioned Justin Hampson to Triple-A Portland.

Our View: This is Tomko’s third stint with the Padres. Tomko allowed 80 hits, 13 walks, and 47 earned runs over 60.2 innings of work with the Royals this season, and his fantasy value will not improve in San Diego.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 6/21, 5:40 PM CT
The Royals placed Brett Tomko on unconditional waivers on Saturday. Tomko had been designated for assignment on June 12.

Our View: Tomko will probably get a minor-league deal somewhere, but he can be ignored for fantasy purposes.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 6/12, 12:32 PM CT
Brett Tomko has been designated for assignment by the Royals, according to the Kansas City Star. Right-handed pitcher Carlos Rosa has been recalled from Triple-A Omaha as an adjoining move.

Our View: Tomko went 2-7 this season with a 5.93 ERA and 1.53 WHIP, and held no fantasy value prior to his designation.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 5/30, 10:25 AM CT
Brett Tomko has lost his spot in the Royals rotation and is headed to the bullpen, this according to the KC Star. Kyle Davies will be called up from Triple-A Omaha on Saturday to replace Tomko.

Our View: Tomko had done little more than throw batting practice in most of his appearances. His 2-6 with a 6.11 ERA in 10 starts isn't good enough -- and he will be utilized in long relief. The veteran right-hander had little fantasy value as a starter. As a reliever, he has none.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 5/26, 2:27 PM CT
Brett Tomko was dealt his sixth loss of the season on Monday, as Kansas City fell to Toronto 7-2. Tomko was lit up for seven runs (six earned) on eight hits over six innings, with no walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: Tomko has now allowed five or more runs in three of his last four starts. His ERA now stands at 6.11, and his fantasy value continues to plummet following a solid start to the season.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 5/16, 9:42 PM CT
Brett Tomko picked up his second win of the season on Friday, as Kansas City edged Florida 7-6. Tomko allowed two runs on five hits over six innings, with one walk and four strikeouts. Most of the damage came on a solo home run by Dan Uggla.

Our View: Tomko bounced back nicely, as he was lit up for six runs on nine hits in his previous start (against Baltimore). He has been solid overall as of late, as he three seven scoreless innings against the Angels on May 5. Tomko is worth consideration if you need help in your rotation.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 5/10, 11:56 PM CT
It was a mixed bag for RHP Brett Tomko this evening, suffering his fourth loss of the season as his Royals fell 6-5 to the Baltimore Orioles. Tomko completed just 5 1/3 innings of work, surrendering six runs (all earned) on nine hits. However, Tomka failed to walk a single batter and struck out eight.

Our View: This is Tomko's fourth loss in his last six outings, though his BB/K ratio remains positive (11/29).
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 5/5, 10:12 PM CT
Brett Tomko went seven shutout innings in his best start of the season, but Angels starter Ervin Santana was better. Tomko allowed only one runner as far as second and struck out the side in the third inning on just 13 pitches.

Our View: Tomko finished the game allowing two hits, two walks and struck out seven. The start keeps Tomko in the rotation, something that was a question mark entering the game.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 5/2, 9:21 AM CT
Brett Tomko will remain in the rotation for now despite his recent struggles, according to the Kansas City Star. "I still believe in him," manager Trey Hillman said of Tomko, "and I have every intention of giving him a couple of more starts. We’ll see how he does in his next start and go from there."

Our View: Tomko started off well this year but has allowed 16 runs over his last three starts. He is unusable in fantasy right now.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 4/24, 9:54 PM CT
Brett Tomko started the season well, but that all changed on Thursday when he was bombed for seven runs, six earned, and 11 hits in just four innings to pick up his third loss.

Our View: The Royals have been adamant that they want Tomko in their starting rotation, but this outing today might change their minds. Tomko has never been able to harness his stuff and he remains rosterable only in AL Only leagues.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 4/12, 9:01 PM CT
Brett Tomko allowed only two runs in six innings to the Twins on Saturday night but that was enough for him to pick up his first loss of the season.

Our View: Tomko has pitched about as well as anyone could have hoped this early in the year and he now appears entrenched in the Royals starting rotation.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 4/7, 2:34 AM CT
Brett Tomko pitched five shutout innings as the Royals defeated the Minnesota Twins 3-1 on Sunday. The state of Missouri, who have two teams (Royals and Cardinals) projected to finish last in their respective divisions, have after one week stunned the baseball world. The two pitching staffs have a combined ERA of 2.60, a K:W ratio of 2.0 and a K Rate of 7.5 after one week of play. Tomko struck out three, walked one and was registering 95 mph on the stadium radar gun in the Sunday win.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 3/27, 9:52 AM CT
Brett Tomko will begin the season as the Royals No. 5 starter, this according to the Kansas City Star. “Tomko, I think there’s a lot more yet to be seen from him. He’s a better pitcher right now … than he was at the start of spring training. We believe he can continue to get better.” Tomko has been increasing his arm strength and registering in the mid-90s with his fastball. For this reason alone we believed he was a better fit as the hard-throwing right-hander out of the KC pen.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 3/21, 2:43 PM CT
Brett Tomko appears to be a good bet for the Royals rotation, according to the Kansas City Star. "I like John Bale's chances, and I like Brett Tomko's chances," manager Trey Hillman admitted, "but I'm not going to pencil either one of them into the rotation yet. We"'re going to continue to evaluate the others." Tomko was awful last year, and there's no reason to think a move to the AL will make him better.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 2/15, 2:49 PM CT
Brett Tomko was able to take part in his regular throwing session Thursday. He had been slowed earlier in the week by a sore back, according to the Kansas City Star. Tomko will be competing for a spot in the Royals rotation, though club officials have indicated that he'll have to pitch his way out of the No. 4 spot.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 2/14, 10:22 AM CT
The Kansas City Star reports that "11 pitchers will open camp as candidates for the rotation: Gil Meche, Zack Greinke, Brian Bannister, Brett Tomko, Jorge De La Rosa, Luke Hudson, John Bale, Brian Lawrence, Kyle Davies, Hideo Nomo and Mike Maroth." Three pitchers in the mix are a lock to break camp as starters. Barring injury, Meche, Greinke and Bannister will make up the first three arms in the rotation. The report noted that team officials indicated Tomko must pitch his way out of the No. 4 slot.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 1/21, 10:47 AM CT
Brett Tomko agreed to terms on a one-year, $3 million deal with the Royals on Sunday, according to the Kansas City Star. Tomko, who posted a 5.55 ERA in 40 games (19 starts) last year, is expected to compete with Kyle Davies, Jorge De La Rosa, Luke Hochevar and Luke Hudson for one of the final two rotation spots.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 9/14, 1:43 AM CT

Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 9/4, 11:10 PM CT
The Padres signed Brett Tomko Tuesday. Tomko was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on August 24. The Pads will use Tomko in long relief for the time being, but he could get a start on September 15, the next time the team needs a fifth starter, according to the AP.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 8/24, 9:35 PM CT
Brett Tomko was designated for assignment on Friday to make room on the roster for David Wells. Tomko was 2-11 with a 5.80 ERA in 33 games, including 15 starts, for the Dodgers.

Our View: Tomko will struggle to find another job this season, but with the dearth of free agent starting pitching this offseason, someone could offer him a minor league deal.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 7/13, 12:24 PM CT
Brett Tomko will start Sunday's series finale at San Francisco, with Derek Lowe's next turn being pushed back to Monday, the Los Angeles Times reports. Tomko began the season as the Dodgers' No. 5 starter, but a 1-5 record and 5.95 ERA in eight starts got him demoted to the bullpen. The right-hander has pitched even worse in relief, posting a 6.57 ERA in 24 2/3 innings. Opponents are batting .327 against him as a reliever.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 5/23, 11:15 PM CT
Brett Tomko has been demoted to the bullpen after giving up after giving up five runs and eight hits in Monday's loss to Milwaukee, according to the AP. Hong-Chi Kuo is the likely candidate to replace him in the rotation the next time the team needs a fifth starter on June 2 at Pittsburgh. Tomko is 1-5 with a 6.28 ERA in nine games, including eight starts, this season for the Dodgers.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsSunday 3/25, 11:51 PM CT
With Hong-Chih Kuo dealing with a sore shoulder and Chad Billingsley being moved into the bullpen, Brett Tomko will open the year as the Dodgers No. 5 starter, according to ESPN.com. Tomko holds a 5.14 ERA in 14 innings this spring.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 3/22, 3:10 PM CT

Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 3/15, 10:00 AM CT

Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 3/13, 7:52 AM CT
Brett Tomko has allowed only four hits, a walk and a run in seven innings this spring, as he tries to claim the last spot in the Dodgers rotation, according to the LA Times. "I've got my eyes on that spot and I'm going out to get it," said Tomko. "I'm looking at it that I'm going to be the guy at the end of spring that's got it."
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 8/19, 7:04 AM CT
Still getting used to relieving instead of starting, Brett Tomko said he has experienced soreness in his right biceps lately, according to the LA Times. The soreness hasn't kept him out of any games, though. "I'm sore all over nearly every day, but not to the degree I was sore after a start," he said.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 7/29, 12:45 AM CT
The Dodgers activated Brett Tomko from the DL Friday, according to the AP. Tomko, who was sidelined since June 24 because of strained oblique muscle in his left side, will replace Danys Baez, who was traded to Atlanta, in the bullpen.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 7/26, 3:51 PM CT
Although Brett Tomko was originally scheduled to be activated from the disabled list on Wednesday, he will have to wait until Friday, according to the Dodgers website. Apparently some other players on Los Angeles are having health issues and the Dodgers want to decide what course of action they will take with those players prior to activating Tomko.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 7/26, 9:26 AM CT
Brett Tomko will be activated today and used out of the bullpen, according to the LA Times. Tomko, who threw two scoreless innings on his rehab assignment, was 6-6 with a 5.12 ERA as a starter for the Dodgers earlier this year before being sidelined with an injured side on June 24.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 7/20, 10:17 PM CT
Brett Tomko is scheduled to pitch rehab outings for Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday and Monday, according to the AP. After that, the Dodgers will reevaluate if he is ready to come off the DL. Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsThursday 7/20, 7:04 AM CT
Once the Dodgers activate Brett Tomko from the disabled list, he'll work out of the bullpen, according to the LA Times. "I'm excited about this," he said. "It's going to be a challenge and it's going to be fun." In the meantime, he'll test his strained left oblique with a simulated game today and spend about a week on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas. Manager Grady Little said Tomko will work in non-save situations first but that could change. "This guy might have the stuff to be a closer one day," Little said.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 7/19, 11:06 PM CT
Brett Tomko will likely be moved to the bullpen once he returns from the disabled list, according to the AP. Tomko is likely to head to Triple-A Las Vegas for a few relief appearances before he's activated. He has been out since June 24 with a left oblique strain.
Brett Tomko, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 6/27, 9:35 PM CT
The Dodgers placed Brett Tomko on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday retroactive to Saturday with a strained left oblique, according to the AP. "He's getting better each day, but it'll be awhile before he is ready to pitch," manager Grady Little said. "We feel this way he'll have plenty of time to get back to full strength and be ready to pitch."
