Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 9/30, 9:21 PM CT
Javier Vazquez struck out nine Marlins in six innings on Wednesday night, but also allowed five runs in a game the Braves had to have, as Atlanta lost 5-4 at home.

Our View: It was the seventh time in 32 starts this season that Vazquez had struck out at least nine. For the year, he is now 15-10 with a 2.87 ERA and 238 strikeouts.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesFriday 9/25, 8:42 PM CT
Javier Vazquez only allowed one earned run on three hits over nine innings in Friday's 4-1 win at Washington. He had one walk and fired seven strikeouts.

Our View: Vazquez was in control as he earned his 15th win and third complete game of 2009. He collected a win in each of his last four starts, and a homer by Josh Bard prevented him from picking up his first shutout tonight.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesSaturday 9/19, 9:35 PM CT
Javier Vazquez dominated once again on Saturday. He blanked the Phillies for seven innings and surrendered just three hits and three walks, while fanning six. The 6-4 victory gave him his 14th win of the season.

Our View: Vazquez is virtually unhittable right now. He has allowed just two runs over his last 23 innings, spanning three starts, and has fanned 23 batters in that stretch.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesThursday 9/17, 12:13 PM CT
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Javier Vazquez, whose name has been mentioned in possible offseason trades, wants to remain with the Braves.

Our View: If the Braves re-sign Tim Hudson they would have a glut of starting pitchers on their roster for next season and could afford trade Vazquez or Kenshin Kawakami. The thing is, Vazquez is affordable (signed for $11.5 million next season) and was the Braves best pitcher this season with a 3.06 ERA and 216 Ks in 197.1 innings pitched. And the old adage holds true in that you can never have enough pitching. The Braves would be silly to trade him unless they got something very generous in return.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesMonday 9/14, 4:37 PM CT
Javier Vazquez has been named the NL Player of the Week, according to MLB.com. He went 2-0 with 1.13 ERA over two starts last week, and led the majors with 17 strikeouts.

Our View: This marks the first time Vazquez has earned the weekly honor in the NL. He topped 200 strikeouts for the third straight season, and the fifth time in his career.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesSunday 9/13, 3:54 PM CT
Javier Vazquez outdueled Cardinals' ace Chris Carpenter on Sunday as the Braves pounded St. Louis 9-2. Vazquez went all nine innings and allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out eight.

Our View: Vazquez has been a strikeout machine all season, and he was dominant against the Birds in today's game. He outpitched Carpenter, and he now has 216 strikeouts.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesTuesday 9/8, 9:49 PM CT
Javier Vazquez struck out nine while allowing just three hits in seven dazzling innings on Tuesday, as Atlanta beat the Astros 2-1 in Houston.

Our View: His 208 strikeouts are second to only to Tim Lincecum's 233 in the National League.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 9/2, 10:07 PM CT
Javier Vazquez allowed five runs on seven hits and a walk over 5.1 innings against the Marlins on Wednesday. He fanned seven and did not factor in the decision as the Braves fell 8-7.

Our View: This was a disappointing outing for Vazquez, especially coming on the heels of a brilliant seven shutout inning performance his last time out. His Wednesday struggles upped his ERA to 3.18.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesThursday 8/27, 9:55 PM CT
Javier Vazquez dominated the Padres on Thursday night, throwing seven scoreless innings while striking out six in the Braves' 9-1 win.

Our View: The start snapped a two-game losing streak for Vazquez. With 192 strikeouts, he is just eight away from his third straight 200-K campaign.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesSaturday 8/22, 12:21 AM CT
Javier Vazquez got tagged by the Marlins for five runs on ten hits and a walk over 6.2 innings Friday. He fanned eight, but was saddled with his ninth loss of the season.

Our View: Vazquez is always a great source of Ks, but he's put up two unimpressive starts in a row now. If his 3.14 ERA on the season tells us anything though, it's that he'll bounce back.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesSunday 8/16, 11:57 PM CT
Javier Vazquez held all of the Phillies in check on Sunday except Ryan Howard. The big first baseman took him deep twice and drove in all four runs in the Braves 4-1 loss.

Our View: Vazquez allowed six hits and a pair of walk, but managed to fan seven over seven innings. His ERA still remained under 3.00, but he fell to 10-8 on the season after Sunday's Howard induced hiccup.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesSunday 8/9, 8:10 PM CT
Javier Vazquez only allowed one earned run on five hits over eight innings in Sunday's 8-2 win at Los Angeles. He had two walks and seven strikeouts.

Our View: Vazquez trimmed his ERA to 2.90, and earned his 10th win of 2009. He is enjoying August with a 2-0 record and a 1.80 ERA over two starts.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 8/5, 12:03 AM CT
Javier Vazquez moved to 9-7 on the year on Tuesday with the Braves' 9-2 win over the Padres. Vazquez went seven innings and allowed two runs on four hits while walking two and striking out six.

Our View: Vazquez continues to produce almost every time out, and right now he looks like an excellent fantasy pitcher. The strikeouts are usually there, and lately he has been good enough to stay unbeaten over his last six starts.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesThursday 7/30, 9:47 PM CT
Javier Vazquez gave up three earned runs on five hits over 7.1 innings in Thursday's 6-3 win at Florida. He issued one walk and fired eight strikeouts.

Our View: Vazquez ended the night with a no-decision, but fantasy owners should still be pleased with his eight K's. He is unbeaten over his last five starts, and allowed two or less earned runs three times over that span.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesFriday 7/24, 10:54 PM CT
Javier Vazquez gave up four earned runs on seven hits over seven innings in Friday's 9-4 win at Milwaukee. He had three walks and racked up nine strikeouts.

Our View: Vazquez has earned a win in three straight starts, and is now 8-7 for the season. He was 1-3 in June, despite a strong 1.98 ERA.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesSunday 7/19, 8:45 PM CT
Javier Vazquez looked just fine in his return to the mound on Sunday as the Braves pounded the Mets by a score of 7-1. Vazquez went seven innings and allowed one run on six hits while walking one and striking out five.

Our View: The strikeout total was a bit low for Vazquez tonight, but he looked dominant against a depleted Mets' lineup. It is hard to judge pitchers who go against the Mets these days, but if this start is any indication, it looks like Vazquez should be fine going forward. Expect the strikeout totals to increase going forward as well.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesFriday 7/17, 2:22 PM CT
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Javier Vazquez (strained abdominal) threw a bullpen session on Thursday and has been deemed ready to start Sunday against the Mets.

Our View: Vazquez was scratched from his previous start, but after oa week of rest says he's feeling good. He should be fine to get back into lineups, and you don't want to miss one of his starts as he's a great source of Ks.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesThursday 7/9, 8:28 PM CT
Javier Vazquez will miss Sunday's start at Colorado due to a strained lower-abdominal muscle, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: The Braves are hopeful that Vazquez can avoid a trip to the DL. His MRI revealed that he is not dealing with a serious ailment. The Braves are yet to announce his replacement for Sunday.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesTuesday 7/7, 10:22 PM CT
Javier Vazquez was superb on Tuesday, striking out six in seven innings for his sixth win, as the Braves beat the Cubs 2-1 at Wrigley Field.

Our View: Vazquez has been one of the National League's top pitchers in 2009, and one of the majors' best strikeout pitchers. Make darn sure he's in your starting lineup every fifth day.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesMonday 7/6, 5:25 PM CT
Contrary to a previous report, the Brewers are apparently not in trade discussions with Atlanta regarding a possible deal involving Javier Vazquez, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Our View: Vazquez has been dominant for Atlanta this season despite a 5-7 record and would certainly have provided a huge boost to Milwaukee's starting rotation, but apparently the Brewers are not looking at him as an option. Still, in light of their superstar Ryan Braun's tirade against the team's pitching, it seems like the Brewers will be looking to add another starter at some point in the near future.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesMonday 7/6, 4:06 PM CT
The Brewers reportedly inquired about Braves' hurler Javier Vazquez, according to ESPN.

Our View: The Brewers would like to improve their rotation while only one game out of first place behind St. Louis in the NL Central standings, but Atlanta won't likely let Vazquez go without acquiring top prospects Mat Gamel or Alcides Escobar in exchange. GM Doug Melvin probably won't be willing to part with either prospect.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesThursday 7/2, 9:29 PM CT
Javier Vazquez was solid if unspectacular on Thursday, striking out five in 5.1 innings and taking a no-decision as Atlanta won 5-2 at home.

Our View: Vazquez has been having his best season in years in 2009, going back and worth with Tim Lincecum for the National League lead in strikeouts and posting five wins for his newest team. He may drop off as the season progresses, but is still a top-tier option at starting pitcher in every format.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesSaturday 6/27, 7:32 PM CT
Javier Vazquez was excellent despite suffering a loss and dropping to 5-7 on Saturday, holding the Red Sox to just one run off six hits and three walks while striking out eight.

Our View: Vazquez passed Tim Lincecum and Justin Verlander for a one-strikeout lead atop the MLB strikeout rankings. Unfortunately, he's now gone seven-straight starts where he's received three or fewer runs of support, and Vazquez owners can do nothing but cross their fingers and hope this trend doesn't continue throughout the season.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesMonday 6/22, 9:17 PM CT
Javier Vazquez allowed nine hits over 6.2 scoreless innings in Monday's 2-0 win over the Cubs at Turner Field. He had two walks and five strikeouts.

Our View: Vazquez improves to 5-6 and trims his ERA to 3.18. He snapped a five-game skid without earning a win.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 6/17, 9:40 PM CT
Javier Vazquez went the distance (just eight innings) in the Braves 4-3 loss to the Reds on Wednesday. He allowed four hits, including two home runs, and four earned runs. He fell to 4-6 on the season.

Our View: Vazquez has 112 strikeouts in 92.1 innings this season. He is an extremely valuable fantasy hurler due to his strikeout rate and durability, despite being 4-6 on the season.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesThursday 6/11, 3:26 PM CT
Braves starter Javier Vazquez was dominant on Thursday, allowing only two hits and walking none in eight innings while striking out 12. He still took a no decision, however, as he left the game tied 1-1. The Braves ended up losing when Andy LaRoche singled in two runs in the ninth inning.

Our View: Vazquez now has a 3.31 ERA and 1.03 WHIP on the season. In his first season with the Braves, he has recorded 105 strikeouts in 84.1 innings, and despite having only four wins, he is an elite fantasy option.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesSaturday 6/6, 9:54 PM CT
Javier Vazquez was hit with the tough luck loss on Saturday as the Braves fell to the Brewers 3-0. Vazquez went six innings and allowed two runs on four hits while striking out seven. He is now 4-5 on the year.

Our View: Vazquez was very good tonight, but for the second straight start he did not get a win. His ERA and strikeout totals are impressive, but he needs more help from his team if he is going to maximize his fantasy potential. His is still a good option in all leagues at this point.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesSaturday 5/30, 7:05 PM CT
Javier Vazquez allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits over 6.1 innings in Saturday's 3-2 loss at Arizona. He racked up eight strikeouts with one walk.

Our View: Vazquez pitched very well tonight, but was dealt a no-decision due to poor run support from his teammates. The game took 11 innings to decide. He went 2-2 with a 3.76 ERA over six starts in May.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 5/20, 11:03 PM CT
Javier Vazquez moved to 4-3 on the year with his win over the Rockies on Wednesday. Vazquez went five innings and allowed one run (none earned) on three hits while walking one and striking out six.

Our View: Vazquez has good this season, and he keeps piling up the strikeouts. He had six more tonight in his five innings, and his team got him plenty of run support. His ERA isn't dazzling, but he has been pretty good overall. He is a strong pitching option in all leagues.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesFriday 5/15, 9:48 PM CT
Javier Vazquez was outstanding on Friday against the Diamondbacks, but he did not factor into the decision as the Braves downed Arizona 4-3. Vazquez went seven innings and allowed two runs on five hits while walking two and striking out ten.

Our View: Vazquez has been striking out hitters at a dazzling rate this season, but he only has three wins on the year. His fantasy value is high right now, and it seems as if he will strike guys out no matter how well or poorly he pitches.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesSaturday 5/9, 5:41 PM CT
Javier Vazquez had a very solid outing against a tough Phillies lineup on Saturday. He allowed just two runs on four hits and earned his third victory of the season. The Braves won 6-2 as Vazquez struck out sevenand did not walk a man.

Our View: Vazquez hit a rough patch at the end of April that carried over to the first week of May, but he's been very good in his last two starts. Today's outing dropped his ERA to 3.88, and the strikeout machine has now fanned 57 in 45.2 innings. He is a solid fantasy starter.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesMonday 5/4, 9:43 PM CT
Javier Vazquez struck out eight hitters again on Monday, but once again he struggled as the Braves lost to the Mets 6-4. Vazquez went 6.2 innings and gave up six runs on seven hits while walking three.

Our View: Vazquez continues to strike hitters out, but much like his last start he was hit around. There is no question that Vazquez is a strikeout machine, but his value is hurt by the fact that he contines to give up runs.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 4/29, 9:39 PM CT
Javier Vazquez struck out eight hitters in eight innings, but he gave up five runs on nine hits as the Braves lost to the Cardinals 5-3 on Wednesday.

Our View: Vazquez took his second loss of the season, but he continues to pile up strike outs. His ability to get to 200 strikeouts most seasons is what makes him a highly regarded fantasy commodity. He already has 42 whiffs through 32 innings in 2009.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesFriday 4/24, 10:27 PM CT
Javier Vazquez was dominant once again on Friday. He allowed just one earned run over six innings and struck out nine batters in the Braves 4-3 win over the Reds. He is now 2-1 on the season.

Our View: Vazquez allowed seven hits, but just one walk in Friday's start. His control has been spot on this season and his 34/7, K/BB ratio is what fantasy owners have been drooling over.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesSunday 4/19, 4:55 PM CT
Javier Vazquez threw six shutout innings as the Braves beat the Pirates 11-1 on Sunday. He struck out eight batters while giving up five hits and a walk.

Our View: Vazquez has thrown well this season, but he's had some unlucky innings and today was his first win. He currently has a stellar 25 strikeouts through 18 innings with his new team.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesTuesday 4/14, 9:25 PM CT
Javier Vazquez was a strikeout machine on Tuesday night, but couldn't keep the Marlins off the board. He struck out 12 in six innings, but allowed three runs on five hits and a walk and took the loss as the Braves fell 5-1.

Our View: Despite the loss, this is still a solid fantasy outing from Vazquez. He earned a quality start, and don't underestimate the value of those 12 Ks. Next to his one walk they look even better and can help you in multiple categories.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesFriday 4/3, 7:45 PM CT
Javier Vazquez pitched four scoreless innings against the Tigers on Friday. He also fanned four batters.

Our View: Vazquez was extremely effective and efficient in his spring finale. To get through four innings, he needed only 39 pitches, 30 which were strikes.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesSunday 3/29, 3:53 PM CT
Javier Vazquez was rocked for four earned runs on seven hits over six innings in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Tigers in the Grapefruit League, with no walks and four strikeouts. He surrendered two homers.

Our View: He was pitching well in spring action prior to today's performance. He averages 210 innings and 197 strikeouts over his last four seasons, and should stay on par in his first campaign in Atlanta.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesTuesday 3/24, 8:37 PM CT
Pitcher Javier Vazquez held the Pirates to five hits and one run over 5.2 innings on Tuesday. He walked one and struck out six. Vazquez threw 91 pitches.

Our View: Javy was a little inconsistent in this outing, but we can't argue much with the final line. He looks ready to begin the season and help fantasy teams.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesThursday 3/19, 9:40 PM CT
Javier Vazquez threw 4.2 innings in the Braves 5-2 win over Detroit on Thursday. He allowed four hits, two walks, and one earned run, while striking out six hitters.

Our View: Vazquez's first start was all the Braves could hope for. Prior to today's outing, he had served as Puerto Rico's ace in the WBC. He threw well in that tournament as well, and he should be primed for another 200 innings and possibly 200 strikeouts again this season.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesSaturday 3/14, 10:24 PM CT
Javier Vazquez once again looked sharp in his WBC start on Saturday. He threw four innings against Team USA, while giving up four hits and a run. He struck out two hitters and walked none.

Our View: Vazquez is carrying a 0.96 ERA to this point in the tournament, and he looks every bit as consistent as he has been throughout the decade. The move to Atlanta should help his fantasy value as the flyball pitcher was prone to giving up home runs in the White Sox home ballpark.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesThursday 12/4, 11:02 AM CT
The Braves' trade for Javier Vazquez from the White Sox has been finalized, according to the Associated Press. Vazquez and lefty reliever Boone Logan are headed to Atlanta and the Sox acquire catcher Tyler Flowers, infielders Jonathan Gilmore and Brent Lillibridge and left-handed pitcher Santos Rodriguez.

Our View: The Braves landed a hard-working pitcher who should top 200 innings in 2009, and the Sox added depth to their middle infield and an eventual replacement for AJ Pierzynski at catcher with Flowers, who crushed 12 homers in the Arizona Fall League.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesTuesday 12/2, 5:31 PM CT
The Braves have reached an agreement with the White Sox on a trade for Javier Vazquez, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal. The White Sox, who will receive as many as three players in return, may also send left-handed reliever Boone Logan to the Braves as part of the deal. Infielder Brent Lillibridge, Class A catcher Tyler Flowers and starter Jo-Jo Reyes.

Our View: This could take the Braves out of the Jake Peavy hunt. We'll let you know when/if the deal is finalized.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesTuesday 12/2, 4:22 PM CT
The Braves are trying to answer their starting pitching questions and it looks like the answer may be Javier Vazquez, according to FOXSports.com. The Sox and Braves are said to be in serious discussions about the trade.

Our View: The White Sox would receive as many three players in return. Left-hander Jo-Jo Reyes and infielder Brent Lillibridge are among the names under discussion.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesTuesday 11/25, 8:39 AM CT
The Braves have inquired about pitcher Javier Vazquez, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The Braves covet an arm for their rotation and one of Chicago's top priorities is to deal Vazquez. Perhaps second baseman Kelly Johnson would be part of a package, which would fill a need for the Sox. Vazquez was previously said to be on the Mets' radar.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesSunday 11/23, 9:27 AM CT
The NY Daily News states that Javier Vazquez could be an option for the Mets. The White Sox are interested in trading him and the Mets did inquire about him earlier in the month.

Our View: The Mets look to be outbid (by either the Yankees or Red Sox) for free agent hurler Derek Lowe, and Vazquez could be had for a favorable price, as the Sox want to unload the final two years of his contract ($24 million). Vazquez went 12-16 last season, but held a passable 1.32 WHIP.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesMonday 11/3, 11:32 PM CT
The Chicago Tribune reports that the Mets have inquired about pitcher Javier Vazquez.

Our View: Vazquez took some verbal abuse from manager Ozzie Guillen at the end of last season. He is one of the games better strikeout pitchers, but he had just a 4.67 ERA and a 12-16 record for the White Sox.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesFriday 10/31, 10:57 AM CT
Trading Javier Vazquez ranks atop Chicago's off-season priority list, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View: He has two years and $23 million left on his contract, and the team reportedly wants to trade him for an infielder. The Angels will be down a starting pitcher with Jon Garland becoming a free agent, and the Sox have previously garnered interest in Chone Figgins.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesThursday 10/2, 5:04 PM CT
Javier Vazquez was rocked for six earned runs on eight hits over a mere 4.1 innings in Thursday's 6-4 loss to the Rays in Game 1 of the ALDS at Tropicana Field, with one walk and six strikeouts.

Our View: Vazquez was unstable in the regular season with a 12-16 record and 4.67 ERA, and is off to a poor start in the playoffs. The White Sox won the World Series in 2005 with dominant pitching, but Vazquez did not join the team until 2006.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 10/1, 6:08 PM CT
Javier Vazquez will throw in Game 1 of the ALDS against Tampa Bay on Thursday according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Over his last three starts, he is 0-3 with a 13.50 ERA. He is a risky play to throw Game 1 but Ozzie Guillen did not have much choice after having to throw his other starters on short rest over the past four days.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesTuesday 9/23, 10:11 PM CT
Javier Vazquez was hammered by the Twins for five runs on seven hits in four innings, as he and the White Sox fell, 9-3.

Our View: Ozzie Guillen said over the weekend that Vazquez had never been a big game pitcher, and this is more proof of that point.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesThursday 9/18, 10:06 PM CT
It was not a good night for Javier Vazquez who was shelled in the White Sox' 9-2 loss to the Yankees. Vazquez was only able to get through 3.2 innings while surrendering six runs on six hits. The loss was Vazquez's 14th of the year.

Our View: This was the first time in 13 starts that Vazquez did not last until at least the fifth inning. Even though he has more losses than wins, Vazquez's ERA (4.32) and WHIP (1.30) have been respectful.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesMonday 9/15, 9:36 AM CT
Javier Vazquez recorded the 2,000th strikeout of his career Sunday night against the Tigers when he fanned Edgar Renteria, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. He ended the night with 2,002 and said, "I've been healthy and had a lot of years."

Our View: He is the 62nd pitcher to reach the 2,000 strikeout mark. His winning effort moved Chicago 1.5 games ahead of Minnesota (lost to Baltimore) in the AL Central race.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesSunday 9/14, 8:20 PM CT
Javier Vazquez took a shutout into the eighth inning on Sunday before being removed for relief. On the day he hurled 7.2 scoreless innings with three hits allowed and eight strikeouts in his 12th victory of the year.

Our View: Though 10 wins and 150 K might not sound that impressive, Vazquez has reached both of those marks in each of the past nine seasons (he has 188 K this year), and he is the only hurler in the majors who can make that claim.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 9/10, 5:38 PM CT
With the White Sox struggling to make the playoffs, Javier Vazquez will pitch on short rest on Saturday instead of his normal rest which would have him on the hill on Sunday, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: Vazquez has posted a 3.72 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in his last 10 starts, though he only has a 4-6 record to show for it. This move means that Vazquez could have four more starts before the season is over.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesTuesday 9/9, 4:59 PM CT
Javier Vazquez took a loss against the Blue Jays on Tuesday afternoon, but you can blame the offense. He allowed only five hits and two runs over six innings. Vazquez walked three, struck out five, and slipped to 11-13.

Our View: Vazquez has pitched better than his record might indicate. Yes, he was very rough in June and had a couple bad outings in July, but Javy was sharp in May, April, and August and has made two solid outings this month. He could be a mild sleeper heading into 2009 due to his bad record and only so-so ERA.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesMonday 9/8, 5:19 PM CT
Monday night’s Toronto Blue Jays at Chicago White Sox’s game has been postponed due to rain, according to the AP.

Our View: It will be made up as part of a split doubleheader beginning at 1:05 Tuesday.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 9/3, 2:32 PM CT
Javier Vazquez was strong in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Indians at Progressive Field, as he only allowed two earned runs on five hits over six innings, with one walk and five strikeouts.

Our View: Vazquez snapped a personal two-game losing streak and is off to good start in September. He should remain active in lineups down the stretch.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesFriday 8/29, 9:15 PM CT
Javier Vazquez surrendered three earned runs on 10 hits over 5.2 innings in Friday's 8-0 shutout loss to the Red Sox at Fenway Park, with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Our View: He finished August with a 3-3 mark over six starts. He was unable to even his season record, as he fell to 10-12 tonight.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesFriday 8/29, 11:58 AM CT
Javier Vazquez has had a good month for the White Sox recording an ERA of 3.00, but tonight he will get a test against the Boston Red Sox. Tonight's game will go a long way in the way people think of Vazquez, according to Chicagosports.com.

Our View: Tonight Vazquez will try and even his win-loss record to 11-11 against the Red Sox.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesSunday 8/17, 6:25 PM CT
Oakland failed to put up a fight in any way, shape, or form today as the White Sox posted the 13-1 win today. Chicago RHP Javier Vazquez is the reason why, pitching eight innings to surrender just one run on four hits with no walks and eight strikeouts.

Our View: Vazquez went just 0-3 through July but has improved, going 3-1 thus far through August. He has allowed just seven earned runs during that span, none of which have come in either of his last two starts. That's 16 consecutive innings without giving up a run for Vazquez, totaling one walk and 18 strikeouts along the way.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesTuesday 8/12, 10:13 PM CT
Veteran hurler Javier Vazquez had it working off the mound this evening, pushing his White Sox to an impressive 9-0 win over the Royals. Vazquez pitched eight innings, allowing five hits, one walk, and earning 10 strikeouts.

Our View: Vazquez moves to 9-10 on the season with a 4.50 ERA. He is 2-1 this month with seven walks versus 21 strikeouts.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesThursday 8/7, 10:27 PM CT
White Sox pitcher Javier Vazquez lost his tenth game of the season by surrendering five runs in seven innings in a loss to Detroit.

Our View: Vazquez has given up at least three earned runs in every start except one since June. Despite that, his high strikeout totals and passable WHIP make him a solid option for AL-only leagues.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesFriday 8/1, 11:03 PM CT
Javier Vazquez finally showed something on Friday night as he held the Royals to two runs over six innings in his eighth win of the season.

Our View: Vazquez only struck out three Royals, but he also walked only two batters as he let his defenders do the work. Vazquez continues to be terribly inconsistent, but the potential is still lurking for a huge finish.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 7/9, 11:57 PM CT
Javier Vazquez allowed six runs on 11 hits, walked one and struck out three in a no-decision against Kansas City on Wednesday night.

Our View: Vazquez was actually the pitcher of record until late in the game when the White Sox offense pounded Royals' starter Brian Bannister and later the bullpen to take Vazquez off the hook. The White Sox starter hasn't been very good away from home this season, and that trend continued despite the 7-6 win over the Royals.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesThursday 7/3, 11:08 PM CT
Javier Vazquez suffered his seventh loss of the season despite pitching his first complete game. The White Sox right-hander allowed three runs on four hits, walked one and struck out 10 in the loss.

Our View: The complete game was his first in nearly a year and it was arguably one of Vazquez's best efforts of the season. Not only did he strike out 10, he retired the first 11 batters he faced.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesSaturday 6/28, 6:37 PM CT
Javier Vazquez allowed five runs on nine hits, walked three and struck out seven in only 4.1 innings of work. Vazquez was hit hard by the Cubs but didn't figure in the 6-5 decision as the White Sox rallied for the win.

Our View: Vazquez' rose to 4.49 in the start but he raised his K/9 rate with the seven strike outs in the four-plus innings of work.

The White Sox will turn to veteran RHP Javier Vazquez for Game 2 of their crosstown battle against the cubs, according to the Sports Network.

Our View: Vazquez is 5-1 at home this season but was touched for five hits and four earned runs in six innings in his most recent start - a 7-1 loss to the Cubs on June 22 at Wrigley Field. He's 3-4 in 15 lifetime starts against Chicago's north-side constituents, having allowed 95 hits and 49 earned runs in 89 2/3 innings with 90 strikeouts.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesSunday 6/22, 10:50 PM CT
Javier Vazquez had a rough outing on Sunday night as he allowed five hits and five walks which led to five runs, four earned, over six innings as he picked up his sixth loss of the year.

Our View: Vazquez is a maddening ball of inconsistency who dominates one game only to to look lost in the next. One of his big bugaboos continues to be the long ball, he allowed two tonight leading to three runs, and he has now alternated loses and wins in each of his last five starts.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesSunday 6/22, 11:03 AM CT
The White Sox will send RHP Javier Vazquez to the mound today to face off against Ryan Dempster the the Cubs as the teams close out their cross-town rivalry, according to the Sports Network.

Our View: Vazquez has made 14 starts in his career against the Cubs, posting an even 3-3 mark with a 4.84 ERA. He has made three starts against the Cubs while a member of the White Sox, notching a 4.95 ERA without a decision. Meanwhile Dempster is a perfect 8-0 with a 2.93 ERA in nine starts at home this season.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesSunday 6/15, 7:49 AM CT
Javier Vazquez's record stands at just 6-5 but the right-hander has been solid this year. His 3.90 ERA, 9.0 K/9 and a 2.2 BB/9 is tops on the White Sox staff - and his numbers after 14 starts this season is among the best in baseball.

Our View: He is getting very little recognition nationally and in the fantasy realm his name seems to be invisible.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesWednesday 6/11, 8:32 PM CT
The White Sox suffered the 5-1 loss at Detroit this evening, totaling four hits over nine innings in a pathetic outing. The game left RHP Javier Vazquez with his fifth loss of the season, going six innings to allow five runs (all earned) on 10 hits with three walks and nine strikeouts.

Our View: Vazquez hasn't posted consecutive wins since April, largely based on the offensive support he is given. Tonight there was almost no support at all.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesSaturday 5/31, 8:18 PM CT
Javier Vazquez allowed two runs on five hits over seven innings in Saturday's 2-0 loss to the Rays, with two walks and 10 strikeouts.

Our View: This was a strong outing for him, despite being dealt his fourth loss of the season. His 10 strikeouts tonight were also a season high. Chalk it up to no run support from his Chicago team-mates.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesSaturday 5/31, 12:31 PM CT

Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesFriday 5/16, 12:09 AM CT
Javier Vazquez pitched 6.2 innings in another quality start as he allowed three runs, two earned, in a no-decision against the Angels.

Our View: Vazquez has allowed three or fewer earned runs in six of his last eight starts as he continues to give the Sox a chance to win almost every night he takes the hill. The 58 K in 58.2 IP doesn't hurt either.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesMonday 5/5, 8:57 PM CT
Javier Vazquez suffered a 1-0 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night. A tough loss for the right-handed veteran who allowed one run while scattering eight hits, walked one and struck out nine over 7.2 innings of work.

Our View: In 12 career starts against the Jays, Vazquez is 4-5 with a 4.54 ERA, and got rocked for six runs and 10 hits over 5.1 innings in his last start against the Yankees. The numbers say he could struggle again, but he is pitching well overall this season, and should remain in your lineups tonight.

Our View: Vazquez is off to a solid start, and the under-rated fantasy hurler should remain in your starting lineup. He is the most consistent starter in Chicago's rotation.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesFriday 4/18, 10:44 PM CT
Javier Vazquez won his third straight start on Friday night to improve to 3-1 thanks to allowing only two runs over 6.1 innings. Vazquez allowed six hits and one walk on the night.

Our View: Vazquez got some publicity after his solid season last year, but he still doesn't get all the love he should as a consistent strike out producing, WHIP lowering starter.
Javier Vazquez, P, Atlanta BravesSunday 4/13, 5:56 PM CT
After a couple so-so outings, Javier Vazquez delivered a gem on Sunday. He struck out nine batters over seven scoreless innings against the Tigers. Vazquez allowed five hits and walked none.

Our View: Vazquez is coming off an excellent 2007 season and once again looks like a high-end No. 2 fantasy hurler.

Javier Vazquez picked up his first win of the season on Monday as he allowed three runs and eight base runners in seven solid innings for the Sox.
