Jamie Walker, P, Baltimore OriolesFriday 6/5, 1:52 PM CT
The Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles have released pitcher Jamie Walker.

Our View: This move has been rumored for days, and not surprising given the veteran's recent performance. Left-handed hitters were hitting a whopping .458 against him and he had given up five home runs in last nine appearances. Alberto Castillo is being called up from Triple-A Norfolk to take his roster spot.

The Baltimore Sun is reporting that Jamie Walker's roster spot may be in jeopardy. Walker has surrendered 19 hits and five home runs in 12.1 innings so far this season. The team plans on evaluating him Thursday to make a decision on his future.

Our View: Walker, usually reliable arm out of the pen, has been terrible this season. Expect a move to be made, but we won't know for sure until later today or tomorrow. He holds no fantasy value at this point.

Updating an earlier report, Jamie Walker has been dealt a fine by the MLB commissioner's office for criticizing umpire Angel Hernandez on a balk call during Tuesday's game, according to Sports Illustrated.

Our View: The financial amount of the fine was not disclosed. Walker's agent noted that the players' association had appealed the penalty.

The Orioles expect Jamie Walker to face a penalty for arguing a balk call with an umpire Tuesday, according to the Baltimore Sun. Manager Dave Trembley said, "You know, we will have to pay the pied piper. I guess when he comes around. So be it."

Our View: Walker holds no fantasy value, as he allowed seven hits and one earned run over four innings of relief.

Jamie Walker does not need to undergo surgery on his left elbow, according to the Baltimore Sun. He spent the past two days in Birmingham, Alabama, getting examined by Dr. James Andrews. Phil Tannenbaum (his agent) said, "Walker had his second appointment with Dr. Andrews today, and Dr. Andrews gave him a clean bill of health. He prescribed a little bit of rest and some exercises, and Walker should be ready to go for spring training."

Our View: This is good news for the 37-year-old reliever, who is entering the final season of a three-year, $12 million deal he signed in November 2006.

Jamie Walker is seeking a second opinion on his throwing elbow before the first one has been fully explained, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The Orioles' situational southpaw recently underwent an MRI on the ailing elbow. He was told that there's "nothing catastrophic" involved with his injury, but he'll see Dr. James Andrews next week to confirm.
Jamie Walker, P, Baltimore OriolesThursday 9/11, 9:18 PM CT
Jamie Walker won't use a sore elbow as an excuse for his poor work this season, but he will have an MRI once the season is over to determine what is going on in the joint, according to the Baltimore Sun. "I have no excuses," Walker said. "It's just been a bad year for me. I'm hoping that there is nothing in [the elbow], and I'm just going to try to finish the year out and we'll go from there."

Our View: Walker owns a 3.84 career ERA and had posted a mark below 3.75 in 6-straight seasons before this year's terrible lack of production leading to a 6.37 mark. Never a hard thrower, Walker needs pinpoint control to be successful, and he just hasn't had it this season as he has been taken deep 12 times in 35.1 innings.
Jamie Walker, P, Baltimore OriolesSunday 7/27, 8:44 PM CT
The Orioles activated lefthander Jamie Walker from the 15-day disabled list. If the Orioles move George Sherrill he could be in the closer's mix.

Our View: Walker went 1-0 with a 4.98 ERA in 37 games before being placed on the DL on June 26 with inflammation in his pitching elbow.
Jamie Walker, P, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 7/22, 6:57 PM CT
Orioles LHP Jamie Walker has returned to the team after throwing a 25-pitch simulated game today, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Walker, who has been on the 15-day disabled list since June 30 with left elbow inflammation, threw to catcher Guillermo Quiroz and shortstop Brandon Fahey -- the first hitters he has faced since pitching to one batter in the Orioles' loss to the Cubs on June 25. Walker, who said he felt no pain during the session, will be reevaluated on Wednesday, and hopes to be activated on Thursday.
Jamie Walker, P, Baltimore OriolesSunday 7/20, 11:21 AM CT
Jamie Walker is scheduled to throw a simulated game on Tuesday, according to the Baltimore Sun. He is recovering from left elbow inflammation.

Our View: At that point, the club will decide whether or not to activate him from the DL.
Jamie Walker, P, Baltimore OriolesFriday 7/18, 12:04 PM CT
Jamie Walker, who is recovering from left elbow inflammation, threw his first bullpen session on Thursday, according to the Baltimore Sun. He reported no issues following the outing.

Our View: He could be activated from the DL this weekend and could return to the Orioles bullpen by Monday.
Jamie Walker, P, Baltimore OriolesThursday 7/17, 4:01 PM CT
Jamie Walker is set to throw a bullpen session today, and he expects to go on a brief rehab assignment before being activated from the DL over the weekend, according to the Baltimore Sun. He is trying to bounce back from left elbow inflammation.

Our View: Walker has been long-tossing, but this will be the first time that he steps on a mound. He's now able to fully extend his left arm, which he couldn't do before going on the shelf. He tried pitching through the pain and restrictions, but that didn't work out very well for him. He could pitch better over the second half, but doesn't merit fantasy attention in standard leagues as a middle reliever.
Jamie Walker, P, Baltimore OriolesSunday 7/6, 12:49 PM CT
Jamie Walker, who is recovering from left elbow inflammation, has set a target date of July 17 to return to the Orioles, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: Walker wanted to return before the All-Star break, but he is more likely to report to Single-A Frederick and begin a throwing program while the Orioles are in Boston next weekend. The reliever is not worth waiting for as a fantasy prospect, as he allowed 12 earned runs, 28 hits (six homers), and seven walks over 21.2 innings.
Jamie Walker, P, Baltimore OriolesThursday 7/3, 7:35 PM CT
Jamie Walker, who has been on the disabled list since Monday, June 30, with inflammation in his left elbow, received a cortisone shot and is scheduled to begin throwing as soon as Thursday afternoon, this according to the team website. "I feel like Superman right now," Walker said. "I'll know more when I start throwing." Walker went on the disabled list after pitching with what he referred to as bone spurs in his elbow for about a month.

Our View: The hope is that Walker will be able to return to the 25-man roster by Saturday, July 12, in Boston.
Jamie Walker, P, Baltimore OriolesMonday 6/30, 3:14 PM CT
Pitcher Jamie Walker has been placed on the 15-day DL due to left elbow inflammation, according to the AP. The team activated Adam Loewen from the DL, as a corresponding move.

Our View: Walker's DL move is retroactive to June 26. He allowed 12 earned runs, 28 hits, and seven walks over 21.2 innings this season, and the reliever held no fantasy value prior to his demotion.
Jamie Walker, P, Baltimore OriolesThursday 2/28, 7:58 PM CT
Jamie Walker looked simply awful in his appearance on Thursday as he yielded five runs on five hits in only 2/3 of an inning. Walker continues to be a solid middle reliever who tends to pick up an odd save or two, and given the fact that his stuff is of the control/soft pitch variety, he figures to improve with more work as he hones his location.
Jamie Walker, P, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 7/25, 1:49 AM CT
Jamie Walker earned his second save in three days Tuesday, pitching a scoreless inning against Tampa Bay. It's not clear how the Orioles would handle their closing job if Chris Ray (bone spur in arm) misses any significant time, but Walker certainly put himself in the argument with his work the last few days. His being left-handed could work against him, however. Dave Trembley didn't have a clear plan of attack when asked about his backup closer plans prior to Tuesday's game. "I think the best scenario for the team is to have one guy and then have a backup," Trembley told the Orioles official site. [Danys] Baez, [Jamie] Walker and [Paul] Shuey can all do it. I think they're all capable of doing it, but by doing that you take away the strength of your club. You put them in positions that they're not used to, and now who do you fill it with?"
Jamie Walker, P, Baltimore OriolesMonday 2/26, 8:44 AM CT
Jamie Walker threw on the side for about 10 minutes on Sunday and is expected to take part in Friday's exhibition game, according to the Baltimore Sun. "They cleared me to go. They're just being cautious. It's all good. I'm ready to rock and roll," said Walker, who sustained a mild concussion when he was hit by a line drive on Friday.
Jamie Walker, P, Baltimore OriolesSaturday 2/24, 8:56 AM CT
Jamie Walker was hit in the head by a line drive during batting practice yesterday, according to the Baltimore Sun. He was diagnosed with a concussion, and a CT scan came back negative. The Orioles list him as day-to-day at this point.
Jamie Walker, P, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 11/21, 1:58 PM CT
Jamie Walker finalized his contract with the Orioles on Tuesday, signing a three-year deal worth about $11.5 million. "We have targeted the bullpen as an area that we want to improve and we certainly believe we've begun that process with the addition of Jamie Walker," said Orioles executive vice president for baseball operations Mike Flanagan. "He is a durable lefty with post-season experience who throws strikes and who can be used in different situations, depending on the game situation on a given day."
Jamie Walker, P, Baltimore OriolesThursday 11/16, 2:00 PM CT
Jamie Walker and the Orioles have agreed in principle to a three-year contract worth $11.5 million, according to the AP. Walker, who held a 2.81 ERA in 56 games with the Tigers last year, will bolster a Baltimore bullpen that posted a 5.25 ERA in 2006, the second worst mark in the big leagues.
Jamie Walker, P, Baltimore OriolesThursday 11/16, 12:54 AM CT
