Steve Kline, P, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 6/11, 6:32 PM CT
Veteran lefty Steve Kline was released from the Phillies on Wednesday a day after he was suspended for bumping an umpire, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Kline has yet to throw an inning in the majors this year, and the portly left hander may or may not ever appear in a major league game ever again given his ineffective work last season and obvious struggles this year.

The Phillies are still looking for a lefty reliever for their bullpen, despite acquiring Steve Kline a few weeks ago, according to FanNation. GM Pat Gillick said that Kline, who is at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, is "possibly the answer."

Our View: Kline holds no fantasy value, as he held a 4.70 ERA and 1.65 WHIP over 46 innings in 2007, with 17 strikeouts. He could get called up, but wouldn't make an impact.

Steve Kline has signed a minor league deal with the Phillies, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. The former member of the Giants will report to Class-A Clearwater for about a week, then begin pitching at Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He holds no fantasy value.

Steve Kline has cleared waivers and is now a free agent, according to the SF Chronicle. Kline should get picked up by another club looking for a veteran lefty to stock in their bullpen.

The Giants designated specialist Steve Kline for assignment on Saturday, this according to the San Francisco Chronicle. While Kline didn't sport spring numbers deserving of a role in the Giants pen he was surprised by the move. "Shocked," Kline told the paper. "What else can you be? Hopefully I can sign up with another team and play my a- off somewhere else and try to bring something good for another team." It's likely Kline will find a role with an organization for a veteran left-hander out of the pen.

Steve Kline has agreed to a two-year, $3.5 million contract to remain with the Giants, according to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick. "I'm happy about coming back," Kline said. "It's a great clubhouse and a great ballpark. How many places can you play where it's packed every night like that?" Kline went 4-2 with a 3.66 ERA in 72 appearances for the Giants last season.

Steve Kline has received permission from the Giants to leave the team, so he can be with his wife for the birth of their second child, according to the Contra Costa Times. He's expected to leave Tuesday morning and rejoin the team prior to Friday's contest.
