Jose Vidro, DH, Seattle MarinersWednesday 8/13, 6:23 PM CT
The Seattle Mariners have officially released Jose Vidro , one week after designated the embattled designated hitter for assignment, according to the Sports Network.

Our View: Through 85 games this season, Vidro was hitting .234 with 11 doubles, seven home runs, and 45 RBIs, one of several disappointing performances of this season for the M's.
Jose Vidro, DH, Seattle MarinersTuesday 8/5, 5:48 PM CT
The Mariners designated Jose Vidro for assignment on Tuesday, MLB.com confirms. The DH is hitting only .234 on the season.

Our View: Vidro is just one of the many Mariners who have had a disastrous season. As happened to Richie Sexson, we'd expect a contending team to hand him a bench spot.

The Mariners failed to make good on 11 hits versus Cleveland today, falling 6-2 to continue a season of frustration. The bulk of that offense came from just two players sharing nearly identical days at the plate. Designated hitter Jose Vidro and first baseman Miguel Cairo both went 3-for-4 at the dish, both posting one RBI.

Our View: Vidro is showing a bit of promise, hitting .290 through July with six RBIs (three over his last five games). It's not much, but it represents a noteworthy improvement.

Despite a .212 average against righties, Jose Vidro will remain as the team's cleanup hitter against right-handed pitchers, hitting behind Raul Ibanez, according to the Seattle Times. "He's still got that reputation that'll make guys think about not giving Ibanez anything to hit," Seattle manager Jim Riggleman said.

Our View: This move just goes to show how pathetic the Mariners lineup is. Vidro is hitting .214 on the season with a .262 on-base percentage, and would have to rank as the single worst cleanup hitter in all of baseball.
Jose Vidro, DH, Seattle MarinersThursday 6/19, 12:13 PM CT
John McLaren has been fired as the Mariners' skipper, according to the Seattle Times. Seattle holds a MLB-worst 25-47 record, and his termination is not a surprise.

Our View: Bench coach Jim Riggleman will take over as acting manager. The Mariners are off today, and will play the Braves on Friday in Atlanta.
Jose Vidro, DH, Seattle MarinersSaturday 5/17, 9:17 AM CT
Jose Vidro didn't start again on Friday due to his nagging back ailment, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. He has been cleared to pinch hit however, and Vidro said, "I felt I had better movement today, but there's still a sore spot close to the spine. So they wanted to check that out. I was free to take some swings today, but I can't do too much. It's mostly when I bend over or lean backward."

Our View: His limitations have allowed the team to get a good look at former first-round pick Jeff Clement, as he is getting action at DH in place of Vidro. Vidro is only hitting .200 over 32 games, and Clement has more upside as an offensive weapon.
Jose Vidro, DH, Seattle MarinersTuesday 5/13, 8:24 PM CT
Seattle DH Jose Vidro is out of tonight's game versus Texas, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Vidro has been missing prolonged time due to back spasms, but the Mariners were hopeful that time had passed. Vidro was in for the Mariners last evening as the team battled to a heartbreaking 13-12 loss in 10 innings to the Rangers, but today he is once again on the bench resting. "It (having Vidro in for extra innings) wasn't a good idea," said manager Jon McLaren. "He's sore today." McLaren reports the team will continue to evaluate Vidro on a daily basis, but they have intentions of resting him now until the team returns home on Friday for their first interleague battle with San Diego.

The Mariners designated hitter, Jose Vidro , didn't play Sunday against the White Sox because of back spasms.

Our View: He has missed five of the last six games due to the ailment.
Jose Vidro, DH, Seattle MarinersSunday 5/11, 8:20 AM CT
Jose Vidro was unable to play on Saturday night due to a sore back, the Seattle Times reports.

Our View: Vidro's playing time has been rare since Jeff Clement's promotion, but he had a chance to start on Saturday. All in all, his fantasy value looks awful right now. Vidro is worth holding on benches in AL-only leagues, barely.
Jose Vidro, DH, Seattle MarinersWednesday 4/30, 5:42 PM CT
Jose Vidro will likely lose some playing time with the recent callup of Jeff Clement, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Manager Johns McLaren didn't use the word platoon when discussing the situation, but it seems pretty clear that the team didn't bring up Clement to ride the pine. The best guess would be that Clement will face righties with Vidro facing lefties. About the only good news for Vidro owners is that he could end seeing some time at first base which could give him some flexibility over his DH only status in most leagues.

Jose Vidro has a sore right elbow and may miss a few days. It's "nothing major," manager John McLaren tells the Seattle Times. "We just don't want to have him swing during a game and hurt it worse."

Jose Vidro, DH, Seattle MarinersThursday 7/26, 4:28 AM CT
Jose Vidro batted fifth for the first time all year Wednesday, after hitting second or third for most of the season, the AP reports. Manager John McLaren said the move was to give Vidro, Seattle's most consistent hitter other than Ichiro Suzuki, more opportunities to drive in runs and make an impact. Vidro wound up going 0-for-4 with a walk, for what it's worth. He's hitting .302 on the year, though his other stats are very tame (49 runs, three homers, 32 RBI, no stolen bases).

Jose Vidro, DH, Seattle MarinersWednesday 12/13, 10:36 PM CT
The Nationals and Mariners have a deal in place that would send Jose Vidro to Seattle for Chris Snelling and Emiliano Fruto, according to MLB.com. It's believed that the Mariners will pick up $12 million of the $16 million remaining over the final two years of Vidro's contract. The trade actually was agreed to Friday, but it needed Vidro's approval, because he has a no-trade clause. He was told by Mariners manager Mike Hargrove that he would be a designated hitter and a backup at third, second and first base. The trade won't be consumated until the players pass physicals.
