Our View: Agent Peter Greenberg told ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick that Garcia would prefer to sign a contract for the rest of 2008, show that he's fully recovered from shoulder surgery, then go on the open market as a free agent in November. Ideally, Garcia would like to pick his destination by the end of the weekend. Garcia, 33, pitched only 58 innings for the Phillies in 2007 before going down with season-ending shoulder surgery. Now that his rehab is almost complete, he's likely to be a popular target for teams that need pitching help and were unable to fill their needs by the trade deadline. The Red Sox, Yankees, Rays, Tigers, Rangers, Mets, Phillies, Astros, Brewers, Cubs, Rockies and Dodgers sent scouts to watch Garcia's workout at the University of Miami on Tuesday. Our View: If the throwing program does not work, Soriano will likely need exploratory surgery on his elbow. He had been a guy fantasy owners were counting on for saves and K's, but his future is now up in the air.
