Troy Percival, P, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 6/18, 11:47 PM CT
Reliever Troy Percival recorded another save in support of the Rays' 5-4 win over the Cubs tonight, his 17th close of the season also representing his 341st career save.

Our View: That ties Percival with Hall of Fame closer Rollie Fingers for ninth on the all-time saves list.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B, New York YankeesWednesday 6/18, 11:47 PM CT
Alex Rodriguez homered for the fourth straight game and the New York Yankees beat the San Diego Padres 8-5 Wednesday night. When A-Rod homers they seem to mean a little more these days. Not only is the Yankee third baseman on a streak, the Yanks won their sixth straight game improving to 39-33.

Our View: Even though Rodriguez missed 21 games, he still has 14 home runs, 40 RBI, 38 runs and has stolen seven bases. The Yankees are 19-9 since Rodriguez came off the disabled list May 20.
Eric Hurley, P, Texas RangersWednesday 6/18, 11:30 PM CT
Eric Hurley and Jo-Jo Reyes went head to head for five innings on Wednesday night in Arlington. The Texas right hander was making his second big-league start. He allowed two runs on five hits, walked two and struck out five.

Our View: Hurley will remain in the rotation if he continues to produce efforts like Wednesday night's.
Kurt Suzuki, C, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 6/18, 11:19 PM CT
The A's took a beating from the Arizona Diamonbacks this evening, falling 11-1 in a game that laid witness to just four Oakland hits. The top man was catcher Kurt Suzuki , going 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Our View: Suzuki came in hitting .318 through the month of June, but his run production has lacked severly. He managed just five RBIs through May and has just five through June thus far.
Rocco Baldelli, CF, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 6/18, 11:10 PM CT
Rocco Baldelli (mitochondrial disorder) went 2-for-3 with a pair of solo homers in his second rehab start for Class A Vero Beach.

Our View: A pair of home runs. This means we will have to start getting excited about the return of the oft-injured - soon to be reserve -- of the Rays.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 6/18, 10:58 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine allowed three runs in five-plus innings and Tampa Bay's bullpen held off the bats of the Cubs for the second straight night to help the Rays clinch their ninth consecutive series at home. The right-hander gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out four.

Our View: The win gave Sonnanstine eight victories on the season.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 6/18, 10:33 PM CT
Toronto RHP Shaun Marcum put a strong outing on the mound tonight but his Jays fell 5-4 to the Brewers. Marcum pitched six innings to allow four runs (all earned) on six hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

Our View: The two homers allowed did much of the damage, though they are the first homers Marcum has allowed in three June starts.
Gregg Zaun, C, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 6/18, 10:29 PM CT
The Blue Jays fought mightily but fell in a tight 5-4 loss to the Brewers. Catcher Gregg Zaun was their weapon of choice, going 2-for-3 with one walk, his seventh double of the season, and his fourth homer to total three RBIs and one run scored on the night.

Our View: This is just his second game played this month, but Zaun has homered in each of his last three games with five runs scored and seven RBIs scored along the way.
Justin Morneau, 1B, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 6/18, 10:28 PM CT
Justin Morneau went 2-for-4 scored a run and drove in three as the Twins destroyed the Nationals 11-2 on Wednesday night.

Our View: Morneau's average (.308) continues to climb and his RBI total now sits at 56 on the season.
Carlos Gomez, CF, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 6/18, 10:17 PM CT
Carlos Gomez went 3-for-5 scoring twice and driving in one as the Twins routed the National 11-2 on Wednesday night.

Our View: Gomez raised his average to .274 and now has 25 RBI and 43 runs scored on the season.
Kevin Slowey, P, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 6/18, 10:10 PM CT
Kevin Slowey won his second straight start and the Minnesota Twins beat the Washington Nationals 11-2 Wednesday night. Slowey allowed one run on seven hits, walked two and struck out four.

Our View: Slowey sure won't over power hitters, but as long as he can keep the ball in the park, he'll find success, especially against light-hitting teams like the Nationals.
Brian Bannister, P, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 6/18, 10:08 PM CT
The Royals pulled a much-needed 3-2 win over the Cardinals tonight led by the arm of RHP Brian Bannister . Bannister pitched seven innings to allow two runs (both earned) on nine hits with no walks and one strikeout.

Our View: Clearly Bannister falls short of the defintion of dominating, but this brings him to a record of 6-6 overall and 2-0 in June.
Alex Gordon, 3B, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 6/18, 10:00 PM CT
The Royals and Cardinals battled it out for the title of Show Me State this evening, but Kansas City emerged 3-2 with the help of third baseman Alex Gordon . Gordon went 2-for-4 with his 18th double and his eighth homer of the season to total one RBI and two runs scored on the night.

Our View: Gordon is struggling to get going at the plate this month, hitting just .224 through June. However, he has already matched the two homers he hit in May and is just four RBIs shy of his monthly total for that same span.
Mark Buehrle, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 6/18, 9:56 PM CT
Mark Buehrle lost a no-hit bid in the sixth inning of Wednesday night's 8-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Bucs third baseman Jose Bautista homered on the first pitch. Buehrle allowed two runs on four hits, walked two and struck out three over eight innings.

Our View: Buehrle pitched the White Sox's last no-hitter on April 18th of last year.
Carlos Quentin, LF, Chicago White SoxWednesday 6/18, 9:53 PM CT
Carlos Quentin hit his 17th home run and the Chicago White Sox scored an 8-2 rout of the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night.

Our View: Quentin, in a mini slump went 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored in the win.
Toby Hall, C, Chicago White SoxWednesday 6/18, 9:50 PM CT
Toby Hall hit his first home run in two years and the Chicago White Sox scored an 8-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night.

Our View: It was only the 18th hit of the season for the backup catcher and the two RBI raised his total to four in 57 at-bats.
Chad Bradford, P, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 6/18, 9:29 PM CT
Chad Bradford pitched two scoreless innings for the Orioles on Wednesday night as was in the right place in the 10th inning to receive his third win of the season.

Our View: Bradford is a versatile performer for the O's. He has the ability to serve as a the setup man, long relief and can fill in as a spot closer if needed.
Kevin Millar, 1B, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 6/18, 9:28 PM CT
Kevin Millar singled in the game-winning run in the 10th inning, and the Baltimore Orioles handed the Houston Astros their seventh straight loss, 2-1 on Wednesday night.

Our View: Millar appears to be fully recovered from a bruised left knee that limited this past weekend.
Luke Scott, LF, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 6/18, 9:24 PM CT
Luke Scott hit his 12th home run of the season and the Orioles won an extra inning affair 2-1 over the Houston Astros on Wednesday night.

Our View: Scott has been on fire and in just over 200 at-bats the ex-Astro has 27 RBI, 31 runs scored and two stolen bases to go along with his 12 long balls.
Jeremy Guthrie, P, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 6/18, 9:09 PM CT
Jeremy Guthrie allowed one run on three hits, walked one and struck out eight over eight innings on Wednesday night.

Our View: Guthrie continues to grind out innings. Coming into tonight's game the right-hander had registered 94.2 innings in 15 starts (6.1 innings per outing).
Milton Bradley, DH, Texas RangersWednesday 6/18, 8:37 PM CT
AL batting leader Milton Bradley was out of Texas' lineup for Wednesday night's game against Atlanta because of a strained left quadriceps. Bradley left Tuesday night's 7-5 victory over the Braves after hurting himself on a two-run single in the third inning. He hit the ball into the gap in right-center field, and reached down for his leg even before reaching first base.

Our View: Bradley wanted to remain in the game and tried to test his leg by running down the right-field line. Washington decided to pull him. "He came in feeling OK, but he felt another day would help so we'll give him another day," Washington said. "It's a little strain. He came in and got it worked on. He'll be ready for the day game tomorrow." Bradley is hitting .330 with 15 home runs and 48 RBI. He is leading the league in slugging percentage and on-base average.
Jim Thome, DH, Chicago White SoxWednesday 6/18, 8:36 PM CT
The White Sox report that designated hitter Jim Thome could be spending time at first base, according to MLB.com.

Our View: With Paul Konerko residing on the 15-day disables list, the team needs to find a viable answer to fill that role. Thome is nursing a stiff back but manager Ozzie Guillen told reporters he is giving this move serious consideration.
Hideki Matsui, DH, New York YankeesWednesday 6/18, 8:27 PM CT
Yankeee outfielder Hideki Matsui is out of tonight's lineup due to soreness in his left knee, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Matsui said there is some inflammation, but he couldn't point to a specific instance when the pain started. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Matsui will meet with Dr. Stuart Hershon on Wednesday to look at the swelling and drain some fluid from the knee. We will update his condition as news comes forth.
Fausto Carmona, P, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 6/18, 8:11 PM CT
Cleveland RHP Fausto Carmona will have his return to the mound delayed for at least three more days due to today's MRI results that reveal continued inflammation in his left hip, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View: Carmona strained the hip in a start against Texas on May 23 at Progressive Field. He went on the disabled list the next day. Carmona threw a 50-pitch, three-inning simulated game Monday at Class A Mahoning Valley. He returned to Progressive Field on Tuesday and complained of soreness in the hip. The hip was still sore today. He had been scheduled to make rehab starts on June 20 and June 25. If those went well, he would have been ready to rejoin the rotation. Now the Indians will play it as it comes and have yet to put a revised timetable for events to Carmona.
Jeff Clement, C, Seattle MarinersWednesday 6/18, 8:10 PM CT
Manager John McLaren said Tuesday that Jeff Clement "is going to catch a lot" and "we want to see him playing." On Wednesday night the rookie is in the lineup as the starting catcher and hitting sixth in the batting order.

Our View: Kenji Johjima fantasy value has taken a huge hit with this move and with the team getting ready to make a three game National League road trip there will be very few at bats for the Japanese import.
Vladimir Guerrero, RF, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 6/18, 8:05 PM CT
Vladimir Guerrero is serving as the Angels designated hitter tonight. Reggie Willits is starting in left field, Torii Hunter is in center and Gary Matthews Jr. is in right field.

Our View: Guerrero is the usual right fielder with Matthews serving as the designated hitter. It never hurts to give Vlad a day off from the field, but he'll tell you he's not as good a hitter when serving as the DH.
Reggie Willits, LF, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 6/18, 8:01 PM CT
Reggie Willits is hitting second and starting in left field for regular Garrett Anderson.

Our View: Anderson is getting the night off with left-handed Oliver Perez starting for the Mets. He should be available to pinch hit if needed.
Erick Aybar, SS, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 6/18, 7:45 PM CT
The Angels have activated infielder Erick Aybar from the 15-day disabled list, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: Aybar landed on the DL when he dislocated his right pinky finger diving for a ball in the first inning of Anaheim's 3-1 victory over Toronto on May 20. Before the injury, Aybar hit .270 with 16 RBI and 21 runs scored in 43 games. To make room for Aybar, the Angels optioned infielder Sean Rodriguez to Triple-A Salt Lake. Rodriguez hit just .185 in 22 games with the big club this season.
Russell Branyan, 3B, Seattle MarinersWednesday 6/18, 7:38 PM CT
Russell Branyan, who was hitting .350 with 12 home runs in Triple-A before being called up last month, hit his ninth home run of the season in the second inning of Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.

Our View: It was his ninth long ball in 57 at-bats. This combined with his Triple-A numbers -- is impressive to say the least.
Joaquin Benoit, P, Texas RangersWednesday 6/18, 7:28 PM CT
The Rangers report RHP Joaquin Benoit will be be available for use in their current series against the Atlanta Braves, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Benoit, the Rangers 2007 Pitcher of the Year, hasn't appeared in a game since June 7 against the Rays. He'll throw a light session in the bullpen on Thursday in the hopes of being ready on Friday.
Alex Rios, RF, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 6/18, 7:28 PM CT
Blue Jays outfielder Alex Rios is not in Wednesday's starting lineup. The Jays have five left-handed hitters in the batting order against Milwaukee starter Ben Sheets.

Our View: While some will begin to question what can be done about the .268 hitting Rios, it's only June and the Jays young outfielder has plenty of time to improve his numbers as the season progresses.
Anthony Reyes, P, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 6/18, 7:17 PM CT
The Cardinals' team website is reporting that Anthony Reyes' scheduled start on Thursday afternoon is in question due to some discomfort and inflammation in his right elbow. Reyes downplayed the condition on Wednesday and said he expects to start, but manager Tony La Russa allowed for more uncertainty.

Our View: Reyes said he has been dealing with the issue since his second start at Triple-A Memphis, on May 15. He competed for the Cardinals' starting rotation in Spring Training, but instead made the club as a reliever. After his workload and effectiveness both dwindled, Reyes was sent to Memphis to start.
Jason Bay, LF, Boston Red SoxWednesday 6/18, 7:09 PM CT
Jason Bay is back in the starting lineup on Wednesday after missing Tuesday's game with flu-like symptoms.

Our View: Bay is hitting in the cleanup spot while Nate McClouth is hitting third rather than leadoff.
Wilson Betemit, 1B, Chicago White SoxWednesday 6/18, 6:52 PM CT
San Diego at New York is in a rain delay, but when the lineup cards were turned in, the Yankees Wilson Betemit was penciled in as the starting first baseman and hitting eighth in the batting order.

Our View: Jason Giambi is the designated hitter and Hideki Matsui has been given a day off.
Carl Crawford, LF, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 6/18, 6:51 PM CT
Rays outfielder Carl Crawford is back on the field tonight and working for the Tampa Bay effort, having completed his recent four-game suspension.

Our View: Crawford earned the suspension for his part in the bench-clearing brawl with Boston. He has also been nursing minor hamstring and knee injuries, but there is no sign that either is a major concern.
Sidney Ponson, P, New York YankeesWednesday 6/18, 5:51 PM CT
Fox Sports reports that the New York Yankees have signed free-agent right-hander Sidney Ponson to a minor-league contract.

Our View: Ponson was recently released by the Texas Rangers, who cited his off and on-field conduct as a decision to designate him for assignment. No word yet on where Ponson fits, and when he might join the rotation.
Milton Bradley, DH, Texas RangersWednesday 6/18, 5:04 PM CT
When he's healthy, and once again he is not, Milton Bradley continues to grow as a major league hitter. He still has temper tantrums that one see's from the most spoiled T-Ball participants; or from Dads of future major leaguers that believe their sons didn't get a fair shake, but his .330-15-48 statline is eye-popping even if he is receiving support from the highest scoring offense in the league.

Our View: When he's not offended by TV announcers and first base umpires Bradley is one of the best players in the league. The only road block holding Bradley back from being a full speed fantasy asset is his history with injury.
Nick Blackburn, P, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 6/18, 5:00 PM CT
Nick Blackburn said his right elbow feels fine, even though his recent soreness prompted the Twins to move his start from Tuesday to Saturday, this according to the Star Tribune. "I could have made that start [Tuesday]," Blackburn said. "I feel fine, but this made sense."

Our View: The decision enabled the Twins to keep their other four starters on regular rest after Monday's off day. Blackburn, who ranks second behind Livan Hernandez for the team lead in innings pitched with 86, will throw a full bullpen session today and make his start Saturday against the Diamondbacks.
Jose Guillen, RF, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 6/18, 4:57 PM CT
The Kansas City Star reports that GM Bill Bavasi, fired Monday, cited the decision last winter not to retain outfielder Jose Guillen as the biggest factor this season in the Mariners’ poor play. “It’s really ironic,” Bavasi said in a news conference after his dismissal, “that the person we’re missing the most is José Guillen.

Our View: The Mariners opted not to exercise a $9 million option to retain Guillen for this season. Kansas City got arguably their most valuable player.
Ian Kennedy, P, New York YankeesWednesday 6/18, 4:50 PM CT
Ian Kennedy (strained lat) will not be back in time to pitch one end of the June 27 doubleheader against the Mets, this according to the New York Daily News.

Our View: The right-hander threw a bullpen session Sunday and will pitch batting practice Friday. He could be in a rehab game within a week.
Kiko Calero, P, Texas RangersWednesday 6/18, 4:30 PM CT
A's right-hander Kiko Calero is expected to be designated for assignment as early as Wednesday to make room for reliever Santiago Casilla. If Calero clears waivers, he has enough service time to decline a minor-league assignment, but he's told the A's he would accept an assignment.

Our View: It would come as a surprise if Calero clears the wire. We can think of one New York team that could really use the veteran's services. Calero rehabilitated a torn rotator cuff rather than have surgery this offseason. He's only worked 2.2 innings this year, giving up a hit, two walks and two earned runs, while striking out an impressive four batters.
Santiago Casilla, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 6/18, 4:24 PM CT
Santiago Casilla made his final rehab appearance on Monday with Oakland's top affiliate and then joined the A's in Arizona on Tuesday, but he won't be activated until Thursday unless there is a pressing need in the bullpen, something that is unlikely after yet another stellar performance by Justin Duchscherer on Tuesday that saw him go eight strong innings against the Diamondbacks.

Our View: Casilla worked 1 2/3 innings at Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, making him unavailable for at least a day or two. Currently Casilla has no fantasy value in traditional formats.
Coco Crisp, CF, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 6/18, 4:03 PM CT
Coco Crisp will have his sore left hand examined in Boston on Thursday, when the Red Sox are off. Manager Terry Francona tells the Boston Globe that the outfielder has a strain on the top, middle portion of his hand. Crisp may be able to play on Friday.

Our View: We should have an update on Crisp within the next day or two, but, again, this doesn't sound serious.
Chris Davis, 1B, Texas RangersWednesday 6/18, 3:39 PM CT
Chris Davis continues to be the hottest hitter outside the majors. The Rangers prospect hit a pair of two-run homers fro Triple-A Oklahoma on Wednesday. Over the past 10 games, Davis is 17-for-38 with seven homers, 14 RBI, and 14 runs.

Our View: We went into the season thinking Davis might get a call in September, but the 22-year-old is hitting .341-22-69-65 over 71 games. If Hank Blalock doesn't work out at first base or the Rangers are looking for a change at DH, Davis is their guy.
Jonathan Albaladejo, P, New York YankeesWednesday 6/18, 3:34 PM CT
The Yankees shifted Jonathan Albaladejo from the 15-day to the 60-day DL on Wednesday. He is out for the season due to a stress fracture in his right elbow.

Our View: That's a tough break for a 25-year-old reliever with a promising arm.
Justin Masterson, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 6/18, 3:31 PM CT
Justin Masterson held the Phillies to two runs over five full innings on Wednesday and improved to 4-1. The rookie allowed four hits, walked two, struck out one, and plunked a batter.

Our View: It wasn't a masterful performance, but Masterson continues to miss bats. He has allowed only 22 hits over 36.0 innings, which is amazing. Given all their injuries, the rookie could stick in the rotation for a while.
J.D. Drew, RF, Boston Red SoxWednesday 6/18, 3:24 PM CT
J.D. Drew can't be stopped. The outfielder went 4-for-5 with a homer, double, two runs, and four RBI on Wednesday afternoon. Drew is hitting .441 with nine homers and 21 RBI in 17 games this month.

Our View: Drew can be fun to watch when he's not nicked up. This is the best stretch we've seen out of him in a while. Fantasy owners should enjoy the ride and keep knocking on wood.
Brandon Inge, C, Detroit TigersWednesday 6/18, 3:21 PM CT
Ivan Rodriguez is behind the plate on Wednesday because Brandon Inge is dealing with a strained left oblique, MLB.com notes. Inge suffered the injury two weeks ago, and it is affecting his hitting. "I'm going to give Inge a day and the day off, see if that helps him," manager Jim Leyland explains. "Because he's not right, and I'm worried about that."

Our View: Leyland only recently installed the catcher rotation between Inge and Pudge, and it looks like that plan may not be in place for near future.
Curtis Granderson, CF, Detroit TigersWednesday 6/18, 2:39 PM CT
Curtis Granderson will hit in the eighth spot again on Wednesday. It's his second straight day near the bottom of the order, and it's also the second straight day that the Tigers are facing a left-handed pitcher. The outfielder is a career .204 hitter against southpaws.

Our View: Jim Leyland previously noted that he's committed to using Granderson against lefties, and it looks like this revised lineup with Curtis near the bottom is the solution. Hey, at least he's playing.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesWednesday 6/18, 2:25 PM CT
The Mariners brass have been meeting following the firing of general manager Bill Bavasi, and the team could release first baseman Richie Sexson in the near future, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The Mariners own the worst record in baseball, and signs point to them beginning to look to the future. Sexson has been a disaster the last two years, and this news shouldn't be too shocking. They could go a lot of directions at first base, including moving Raul Ibanez or calling up a prospect.
Coco Crisp, CF, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 6/18, 1:29 PM CT
Coco Crisp left Wednesday's game in the third inning due to left hand discomfort. He is day-to-day, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: The Red Sox may have more to say after the game, but it doesn't sound too serious.
Francisco Liriano, P, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 6/18, 1:14 PM CT
Francisco Liriano isn't on the verge of returning to the Twins, but the club could call him back up in July. "We're not going to force the issue. We'll let him get enough starts down there to where (the front office) feels comfortable," manager Rob Gardenhire tells the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "Whether it's at the All-Star break or right before that, I don't know." Liriano is 3-0 with a 2.79 ERA and .214 BAA this month.

Our View: The Twins want to make fully certain that Liriano is ready this time, as they rushed him earlier this year. The southpaw doesn't figure to return to his 2006 form this year, but he could still help fantasy teams.
Adam Loewen, LF, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 6/18, 12:19 PM CT
Adam Loewen will move up to Double-A and work for the Bowie club on Wednesday night, the Baltimore Sun reports. The southpaw allowed one hit and no runs, struck out five, and walked none over three relief appearances for High-A Frederick. He is on the DL due to a sore left elbow.

Our View: The Orioles may not wait long to move Loewen up to the majors, but he is slated to stick in relief for the rest of this season.
Jeff Clement, C, Seattle MarinersWednesday 6/18, 10:52 AM CT
Manager John McLaren has basically handed the starting catcher job over to Jeff Clement. When asked if Clement will start three out of every five games, McLaren tells the Seattle Times, "That, or more."

Our View: Clement struggled in his earlier call-up this year, but the Mariners are beginning to look to the future and Jeff is a high-end prospect. Johjima is hitting only .224, and this news sinks his lagging value. Clement has batted .337 with a 1.137 during his Triple-A time (47 games) and is worth a look.
Billy Butler, 1B, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 6/18, 10:35 AM CT
Billy Butler is batting .394 with a 1.089 OPS since being demoted to Triple-A Omaha in late May, and he may return to Kansas City soon. "He’s continuing to swing the bat well," manager Trey Hillman informs the Kansas City Star. "That’s good for us. At some point, we’ll look to get him back up here. When that’s going to happen, I can’t tell you. Reports are good."

Our View: The Royals have been trying a different alignment with Joey Gathright in center and Mark Teahen at first, but neither guy is hitting particularly well this month. Butler is good enough with the stick to help AL-only teams, and hopefully the demotion turns out to be a wake-up call.
Joaquin Benoit, P, Texas RangersWednesday 6/18, 10:30 AM CT
Joaquin Benoit threw 35 pitches in a bullpen session on Tuesday, which was his first time on the mound in a week, the Dallas Morning News reports. He is dealing with right shoulder soreness.

Our View: We're not sure why the Rangers haven't placed Benoit on the DL at this point, as he hasn't appeared in a game since June 7. Anyway, he's not much of a fantasy asset.
Kelvim Escobar, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 6/18, 10:19 AM CT
Kelvim Escobar took the mound on Tuesday. He threw 30 pitches to a catcher and then worked a two-inning simulated game against four Angels hitters. Escobar tells the Los Angeles Times that it's "a big step for me." The right-hander adds, "I'm very pleased, very happy. The most important thing [is] I felt stronger. The next few days are going to be the most important. See how my arm responds." Escobar has a tear in his right labrum, and he is attempting to return without surgery.

Our View: It all goes well, Escobar could begin a minor league rehab assignment by the end of June and put himself on pace to return in late July. We're not expecting him to be nearly as valuable in fantasy leagues as he was in 2007, and there's still talk of him pitching in relief.
Paul Konerko, 1B, Chicago White SoxWednesday 6/18, 9:41 AM CT
Paul Konerko sounds like a man who will need more than the minimum 15 days to come off the DL. He is dealing with a strained left oblique. "The first week, I'm not supposed to do anything at all physical," Konerko informs the Chicago Tribune. "I mean, nothing at all, not even riding the bike or anything. Then we'll move on and build up from there." The first baseman says it currently hurts to laugh or sneeze.

Our View: We could be wrong and maybe this injury will clear up quickly, but fantasy owners need to prepare to be without Konerko for longer than two weeks. We're sure you will all miss the .215 average.
Dustin McGowan, P, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 6/18, 9:33 AM CT
Following his rough outing in Milwaukee on Tuesday night, Dustin McGowan is now 1-4 with a 6.27 ERA and 1.52 WHIP on the road. The right-hander is 4-1 with a 1.73 ERA and 1.15 WHIP at home.

Our View: McGowan is looking like the 2006 version of Ervin Santana. The Jays hurler has the potential to be a top-30 fantasy hurler, but this inconsistency is a bit maddening.
Josh Beckett, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 6/18, 9:23 AM CT
Due to an off-day on Thursday, the Red Sox will shift around their rotation and push Josh Beckett to Monday, the Boston Globe reports. Tim Wakefield, Daisuke Matsuzaka, and Jon Lester will pitch this weekend. "We talk about building in rest," manager Terry Francona says. "Josh knew all along. He's fine."

Our View: Beckett is now in line to start twice next week, rather than twice this week. It's not big news unless your fantasy league allows daily transactions.
Justin Duchscherer, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 6/18, 8:26 AM CT
Justin Duchscherer pitched well on Tuesday night, but he was a spectator at the plate. The pitcher tweaked his surgically repaired left hip during his first at-bat and was told to stop swinging, the Arizona Republic notes. Duchscherer ended the night with four strikeouts over four at-bats.

Our View: Luckily, the Duke's hip didn't hinder his pitching performance, and we hope it won't be an issue once these visits to the NL parks are over.
Felix Hernandez, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 6/18, 12:16 AM CT
Seattle RHP Felix Hernandez put another win on the board, supporting the Mariners' 5-4 win over the Marlins. Hernandez pitched 7 1/3 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits with one walk and nine strikeouts.
