Jason Giambi, 1B, New York YankeesWednesday 6/11, 11:58 PM CT
The Yankees made it interesting late, but Oakland held on to take the 8-4 win. The Yanks were led, once again, by first baseman Jason Giambi , going 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and his 15th home run of the season, totaling two RBIs and two runs scored on the night.

Our View: Giambi left May with a strong sense of resurgence, hitting .315 on the month with six home runs and 14 RBIs. Through the early games of June, he's hitting .360 with four home runs and 20 RBIs.
Vladimir Guerrero, RF, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 6/11, 11:20 PM CT
The reports of Vladimir Guerrero's demise may have been warranted after early struggles this season, but he's starting to heat up and get back into form, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Our View: Guerrero hit a homer in the eighth today, his third dinger in four games. Since the start of June, Guerrero has gone 11-for-24 at the plate, raising his average from .246 to .269.
Marlon Byrd, CF, Texas RangersWednesday 6/11, 11:13 PM CT
The Rangers had their sticks working in full force this evening, whopping the Royals 11-5. Outfielder Marlon Byrd failed to drive in a single run, but he was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two walks and two doubles to total three runs scored on the night.

Our View: Byrd comes off a strong month of May, hitting .300, and has improved in June, hitting .400 coming into tonight.
David Murphy, RF, Texas RangersWednesday 6/11, 11:09 PM CT
The Rangers brought more than enough offense to the party this evening, dismissing the Royals 11-5. The leader in the clubhouse is outfielder David Murphy , going 3-for-5 at the dish with two home runs to total five RBIs and two runs scored.

Our View: Murphy started warming up in May, hitting .280 for the month with four homers and 21 RBIs. Through the early part of June he's hitting .314 with four homers and 10 RBIs.
Kyle Davies, P, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 6/11, 11:05 PM CT
In just his third start this season, Kansas City RHP Kyle Davies pitched well but watched as relief pitching failed to support his cause, falling 11-5 to Texas. Davies pitched six innings, allowing just one run on six hits with five walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: Davies now carries an ERA of 1.53, taking the no-decision to stay at 2-0 on the season.
Mark Grudzielanek, 2B, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 6/11, 11:00 PM CT
Kansas suffered the slings of the Texas offense tonight, falling 11-5 in a game that carried plenty of hits, not nearly enough pitching, and more than a few runs scored. For the Royals, second baseman Mark Grudzielanek was the weapon of choice, going 2-for-5 at the plate with his 14th double and second home runs of the season, totaling four RBIs on the night.

Our View: Grudzielanek is now hitting .293 on the season, getting on base safely in 10 of his last 12 games.
Santiago Casilla, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 6/11, 10:42 PM CT
Oakland RHP Santiago Casilla continues to work through rehab in the minors and could rejoin the A's as soon as this weekend, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Casilla has battled right elbow soreness and has been on the DL since May 16th. On Tuesday, Casilla threw the first inning of Stockton's game against Bakersfield, retiring the side in order with two strikeouts. Casilla will make a second rehab appearance with Triple-A Sacramento on Friday and, if all goes well there, the righty could be making a return to the club's 25-man roster soon after.
Daniel Cabrera, P, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 6/11, 10:33 PM CT
Orioles pitching coach Rick Kranitz spoke with the media today and believes RHP Daniel Cabrera is struggling due to flaws in his delivery, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: In his past two outings, Cabrera has allowed 12 earned runs and 15 hits spanning 11 innings, squandering three-run leads in each outing. After allowing six earned runs to the Boston Red Sox in the series opener Tuesday, Cabrera said he's having problems getting his two-seam fastball down in the zone. Kranitz notes that Cabrera's delivery is inconsistent but believes the work needed to get him back on track will be minimal. Kranitz is going to review tape of Cabrera's delivery from last season to indicate differences between then and now, hoping he can get the hurler to adjust to his old style of comfort.
Joel Zumaya, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 6/11, 10:10 PM CT
Updating an earlier story, Detroit reliever Joel Zumaya failed to impress in his fourth minor-league rehab start, leaving questions about plans to call him back to the majors on Friday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Despite hitting 100 mph twice on the radar gun, he allowed two runs -- one earned -- on two hits and two walks in one inning and didn't record an out in his second inning of work in the Mud Hens' win over the Indianapolis Indians, the Pirates' Triple-A affiliate. Zumaya, who is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, threw 17 of his 34 pitches for strikes. He fell behind in the count against six of the eight batters he faced. However, after the game Zumaya reported no immediate pain or discomfort, leaving the door open for a possible return despite the minor setback.
Mariano Rivera, P, New York YankeesWednesday 6/11, 10:01 PM CT
Yankee reliever Mariano Rivera has appeared in four consecutive games, but manager Joe Girardi has hinted they will not look his way tonight, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Girardi was asked about Riveria's workload before the game and noted that he had intended to leave him be on Tuesday night as well, but Rivera was up and stretching before he realized what was going on in the bullpen. Tonight, he should have the day off.
Jason Kubel, DH, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 6/11, 9:52 PM CT
Minnesota designated hitter Jason Kubel enjoyed a wonderful evening with the stick this evening as the Twins put the 8-5 win on the Indians. Kubel went 3-for-4 at the plate, including his eighth home run of the season to total two RBIs.

Our View: Kubel has gotten going of late, hitting 8-for-19 with two home runs and seven RBIs over his last six games.
Justin Morneau, 1B, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 6/11, 9:45 PM CT
Minnesota put eight runs on the board with 10 hits to get the win, 8-5, over Cleveland. The effort was led by first baseman Justin Morneau , going 2-for-5 at the dish with two doubles to total three RBIs on the night.

Our View: Morneau was on fire last month, hitting .226 with four homers and 20 RBIs. Coming into tonight he had cooled significantly, hitting just .250 with no homers and two RBIs through June.
Joe Nathan, P, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 6/11, 9:41 PM CT
Minnesota reliever Joe Nathan closed out the 8-5 win over Cleveland this evening to get his 17th save of the season. Nathan pitched the ninth, needing just 13 pitches to influence one ground out, one fly out, and one strikeout to seal the deal.

Our View: After earning eight saves through 10 appearances in April, Nathan found just five closings through 12 appearances. Thus far in June, he has three save on four appearances.
Nick Blackburn, P, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 6/11, 9:38 PM CT
Minnesota RHP Nick Blackburn picked up his fifth home run of the season, leading his Twins to an 8-5 victory over Cleveland. Blackburn pitched six innings to allow two runs (both earned) on seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts.

Our View: The hurler had suffered two losses and two no-decisions through his last four starts, though he has pitched well throughout. Tonight he was in command and minimized his mistakes to put Minnesota in position to get the win.
Grady Sizemore, CF, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 6/11, 9:33 PM CT
The Indians suffered the 8-5 loss to Minnesota this evening despite a strong effort from outfielder Grady Sizemore . Sizemore went 2-for-5 at the plate with his 14th double of the season as well as his 13th home run, good for three RBIs on the night.

Our View: Sizemore struggled through rough times in May, hitting just .221 on the month despite hitting seven home runs and 16 RBIs along the way. This month he has the power and run production working again and his work at the plate is improved as well, hitting .306 on the month thus far.
Joe Borowski, P, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 6/11, 9:29 PM CT
Cleveland reliever Joe Borowski hasn't been the picture of stability this season but hopes of a reversal of fortunes had come alive with better results over recent weeks. Tonight he may have ruined that momentum, out of position for the save but still in the game in the ninth in the 8-5 loss to Minnesota. Borowski pitched one inning, giving up two runs (both earned) on three hits on just 24 pitches.

Our View: This pushes Borowski's ERA back to 9.00 on the season. He had worked three appearances in May and two in early June without surrendering a single run, but tonight the horrors of the early season returned.
Jacoby Ellsbury, CF, Boston Red SoxWednesday 6/11, 9:17 PM CT
Boston needed just seven hits to score six runs, beating Baltimore 6-3 this evening. Leadoff man Jacoby Ellsbury helped the cause, going 1-for-4 at the dish with his 29th stolen base.

Our View: Ellsbury sparked the rally for five runs in the fifth, stretching what should have been a single into a triple by using his speed to spook an errant throw. That turned into one run scored, leading to five total runs on the inning.
Bartolo Colon, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 6/11, 9:09 PM CT
Boston RHP Bartolo Colon improved to 4-1 this evening with a 6-3 win over Baltimore, pitching six innings to allow just one run on five hits, surrendering one walk and seven strikeouts.

Our View: Colon won his first three starts with a combined seven earned runs allowed with five walks and 13 strikeouts. Tonight was his most dominating performance yet and has fans in Boston happy with the gamble laid on the aging veteran.
Garrett Olson, P, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 6/11, 9:05 PM CT
Baltimore LHP Garrett Olson suffered his second loss of the season as the Orioles fell to the Red Sox 6-3. Olson pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing six runs (all earned) on seven hits with three walks and no strikeouts.

Our View: Olson gave up two homers on the evening. He surrenderd just one long ball through his first six starts, but has given up four over his last three.
Brian Roberts, 2B, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 6/11, 9:00 PM CT
The Red Sox have completed a 6-3 win over the Orioles, though Baltimore scattered nine hits through the evening. Every batter but one found a way to get on base, second baseman Brian Roberts being the one to go without. Roberts went 0-for-5 with one strikeout and three runners left on base.

Our View: Roberts was hitting .368 for the month of June coming in, thus it is hard to get too upset about this outing. It ends a hit streak at eight games for Roberts.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesWednesday 6/11, 8:54 PM CT
Yankee LHP Andy Pettitte has told reporters that he has pondered what he will do next season and realizes that future may not include the New York Yankees, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: The Yanks will be in a new stadium and reporters asked Pettitte if he thought the idea of pitching int that stadium was exciting, to which Pettitte replied that he had no idea if he would be in pinstripes or not. Pettitte, who turns 36 on Sunday, spent three stints on the disabled list in 2004 and wound up having elbow surgery. He still deals with the fear of something happening with his elbow though insists he has been pain-free since rejoining the Yankees last year. This season he is 5-5 with a 4.99 ERA heading into Thursday's start and coming off consecutive no-decisions.
Marcus Thames, LF, Detroit TigersWednesday 6/11, 8:41 PM CT
The work of Justin Verlander was good enough for the win, but Detroit brought the offense as well, putting a 5-1 win on the Chicago White Sox. Outfielder Marcus Thames was the man of the hour, going 1-for-3 with ihs seventh home run of the season to total three RBIs.

Our View: Thames left May after hiting .293 for the month, hoping to spark a new level of offense for the weeks ahead. Thus far it has not happened in June, hitting just .211 coming into tonight
Justin Verlander, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 6/11, 8:36 PM CT
The Detroit Tigers are sure to be happy with tonight's 5-1 win over the White Sox, happines in large part due to the work of RHP Justin Verlander . Verlander pitched the full game, going nine to allow just one run on four hits with no walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: After going 1-4 through May, Verland would like to get the wins going. Tonight is a definitive step in the right direction.
Ichiro Suzuki, RF, Seattle MarinersWednesday 6/11, 8:18 PM CT
Seattle outfielder Ichiro Suzuki joined the list of players using this week to reach career milestones, according to MLB.com.

Our View: This afternoon against Toronto Ichiro swiped the 300th base of his major league career. He has already registered 28 stolen bases this season, leaving us to wonder what the future holds for such a powerful runner.
Francisco Liriano, P, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 6/11, 8:13 PM CT
The Twins believe LHP Francisco Liriano could return to the club in short order, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Liriano was solid on the mound on Tuesday for Triple-A Rochester, holding the Durham Bulls to one run over six innings. His control is still a bit off, but this gives Liriano three solid starts in rehab, going 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA. Manager Ron Gardenhire is adament that Liriano will be a starter when the does return, thus they want to insure he's ready to go when they make that call.
Coco Crisp, CF, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 6/11, 8:02 PM CT
Boston outfielder Coco Crisp has had his appeal of a recent suspension scheduled, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Crisp will have his appeal of the recent seven-game suspension heard by Major League Baseball on June 23rd. He will not be forced to miss any games until that time.
Freddy Dolsi, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 6/11, 8:00 PM CT
Detroit may have been forced to bring RHP Freddy Dolsi in a way they had not planned, but they are beyond ecstatic with the results, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Dolsi was called up from Double-A Erie about a month ago to replace then-injured Denny Bautista and fears about his lack of experience and preparation were all but impossible to ignore. For the season, Dolsi has allowed just three of 16 inherited runners to score, fewer than the four earned runs he has allowed to reach base and score off of him. He has retired the first batter in nine of his 12 outings.
Paul Konerko, 1B, Chicago White SoxWednesday 6/11, 7:40 PM CT
Chicago first baseman Paul Konerko is out of the lineup this evening as the White Sox face the Detroit Tigers.

Our View: The team failed to give a reason why Konerko was taking a rest, and it may be just that... he needs a break. Or it may be Konerko's record against tonight's starter for the Tigers, Justin Verlander (Konerko is 3-for-24 with eight strikeouts against Verlander).
Juan Rincon, P, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 6/11, 7:27 PM CT
Minnesota manager Ron Gardenhire told reporters he still intends to cut the pitching staff from 13 members to 12 following tomorrow's game in Cleveland, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Gardenhire stopped short of naming which position player he will call up to fill that roster spot, though popular opinion has Brian Buscher as the likely candidate. Gardenhire has also held his decision of which pitcher will go. RHP Juan Rincon makes the most sense.
Chad Bradford, P, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 6/11, 7:23 PM CT
Baltimore relief pitcher Chad Bradford celebrated a milestone this evening, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Chad Bradford entered Tuesday's game against the Red Sox with two outs in the seventh inning. Clinging to a one-run lead, the Orioles called on the 11-year veteran to escape the frame in what had become a back-and-forth slugfest. Bradford did just that, forcing Red Sox slugger Manny Ramirez to pop up to first baseman Kevin Millar. As the O's earned the 10-6 win at Fenway Park, Bradford was able to celebrate a longevity landmark -- it was the 33-year-old's 500th appearance in a Major League game.
Jeremy Bonderman, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 6/11, 7:10 PM CT
The Tigers report RHP Jeremy Bonderman will be examined by a specialist next week to determine the cause of a blood clot that kept him off the mound last weekend, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Bonderman will be examined on Tuesday in Dallas. The clot is believed to have been caused by a rib, and if doctors determine that to be true, Bonderman may require surgery to have the rib removed, resulting in an end to his season. We will update as news becomes available.
C.J. Wilson, P, Texas RangersWednesday 6/11, 7:05 PM CT
The Rangers are happy with recent work from their relief pitching, namely Eddie Guardado and C.J. Wilson , and plan to continue with the dual effort that is paying dividends, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The team has turned to both Eddie Guardada and C.J. Wilson to cover the late innings, as they did on Tuesday when Guardado worked the eighth followed by Wilson in the ninth for the save. Manager Ron Washington plans on using that approach much more often.
Victor Martinez, C, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 6/11, 6:57 PM CT
Cleveland catcher Victor Martinez has left tonight's game with right elbow inflammation.

Our View: He was replaced by Kelly Shoppach behind the plate. The team has not updated his condition but may seek to give Martinez some time off for this kind of ailment. We will update as news becomes available.
Francisco Rodriguez, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 6/11, 6:28 PM CT
The Angels used a late-inning rally to surpass the Rays of Tampa Bay 4-2, an effort capped by another strong outing from reliever Francisco Rodriguez . K-Rod faced three hitters in the ninth, allowing one walk with two ground outs and one fly out to complete the win and pick up his 27th save of the season.

Our View: K-Rod has allowed just two earned runs over his last 24 outings.
Eddie Bonine, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 6/11, 6:15 PM CT
The Tigers will hand the ball to Eddie Bonine on Saturday when the meet with the Dodgers, making his major league debut, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Saturday's start was planned for Dontrelle Willis but that obviously is no longer an option. The Tigers continue to list "TBA" under the starting assignment with the league, and they have also left Bonine listed as the probable starter for Triple-A Toledo on Thursday. Manager Jim Leyland states they are still considering recently-arrived LHP Casey Fossum as well, but is "90%" sure Bonine will be their man. Originally drafted by San Diego in 2003, the Tigers got Bonine as a selection in the Rule 5 Draft -- the Minor League portion of it. He had a combined 10-16 record with an ERA near 6.00 over two years in the high Class A California League, but his performance abruptly seemed to change once he jumped east to the Tigers' system in 2006.
Josh Barfield, 2B, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 6/11, 6:05 PM CT
Cleveland infielder Josh Barfield has been withheld from practice and will also be held out of tonight's lineup as the Indians face the Twins due to a sprained middle finger on his left hand, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Barfield has been unable to swing a bat with the aching digit and could be sent to the 15-day disables list as a result
John Lackey, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 6/11, 5:44 PM CT
The Angels waited until late in the game to take command, but they put the runs up and got the 4-2 win over Tampa Bay. RHP John Lackey got the win, going 7 1/3 innings to allow two runs (both earned) on four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Our View: The win is Lackey's third on the season, touting an impressive 1.83 ERA after six starts.
Scott Kazmir, P, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 6/11, 5:41 PM CT
Tampa Bay LHP Scott Kazmir was stellar on the mound today but the offense failed to score the runs and the relief pitching gave it all way in the late innings as the Rays fell 4-2 to the Angels. Kazmir pitched 6 2/3 innings to allow three runs (all earned) on six hits with three walks and 10 strikeouts.

Our View: Kazmir now sits at 6-2 with the loss, touting an ERA of 1.74. He had been riding a streak of six consecutive wins, allowing just one run more during that span than he allowed today.
Akinori Iwamura, 2B, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 6/11, 5:37 PM CT
It started as a pitcher's duel but the offense came late as the Angels emerged 4-2 over the Rays today. Tampa Bay managed just five total hits with second baseman Akinori Iwamura serving as the only hitter with more than one, going 2-for-4 with a triple, adding one run scored to the stat line.

Our View: Iwamura left May after hitting .333 for the month but has struggled a bit in June, now sitting at 11-for-43 for the month.
Maicer Izturis, SS, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 6/11, 5:32 PM CT
They waited until late innings to get the job done, but the Angels managed to pull the 4-2 win at home over the Tampa Bay Rays this afternoon, an effort led by shortstop Maicer Izturis . Izturis went 2-for-4, both singles, to total two RBIs on the day.

Our View: Izturis has never been noted as a top offensive weapon but he's hitting .385 through June.
Joel Zumaya, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 6/11, 5:07 PM CT
Detroit manager Jim Leyland spoke with reporters in Chicago before their matchup with the White Sox and addressed the progress of relievers Joel Zumaya and Fernando Rodney, according to MLive.com.

Our View: Leyland says both pitchers, working in rehab assignments with Triple-A Toledo, are progressing and could be available for return soon. Rodney is schedule to make an appearance on Friday and, according to Leyland, could return to the Tigers as early as Sunday, barring setback. Zumaya could return as early as Friday, just in time for interleague play.
Rocco Baldelli, CF, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 6/11, 4:37 PM CT
Tampa Bay outfielder Rocco Baldelli , out of action since May of 2007 with a mitochondrial disorder, is expected to meet with team officials in the coming days to discuss a potential move to join one of their minor-league affiliates, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Baldelli was placed on the 60-day disabled list during spring training and had resumed playing as a designated hitter in extended spring training. With extended spring training closing, the Rays must decide what to do with Baldelli, feeling he is close to a return but wanting to exercise caution in rushing him back.
Chone Figgins, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 6/11, 4:30 PM CT
Angels infielder Chone Figgins may return from the disabled list on Friday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The Angels currently have Figgins working on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Salt Lake with the third game of that work being played tonight. If things go well and Figgins experiences no setbacks, the Angels intend to activate him on Friday. Figgins is on the disabled list for the second time this season as he tries to recover from a strained right hamstring. The third baseman initially suffered the injury May 3 while sliding into home against the Orioles. He was activated from the DL on May 21 in Toronto without going out on a rehab assignment, played one game and ultimately returned to the DL on May 30.
Felix Hernandez, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 6/11, 4:25 PM CT
The Mariners report RHP Felix Hernandez , despite finishing eight full innings of work in today's 2-1 win over Toronto, is suffering from pain in his right calf muscle, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Hernandez told reporters that he had full intentions of throwing the complete game today, but the pain in his calf was too much to take after eight. He also reports the problem is not new and has been bothering him for several weeks, yet he has not missed a start. At this time the team has announced no plans for medical testing or examination, but we will update with news as it becomes available.
Daisuke Matsuzaka, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 6/11, 4:17 PM CT
The Red Sox report RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka spent this afternoon in the bullpen throwing and manager Terry Francona says things "went well," according to the Providence Journal.

Our View: The pitcher and manager will meet after the team's batting practice this evening to discuss plans for next week, hoping to get Dice-K into a some minor-league rehab starts. We will update as news becomes available.
Jonny Gomes, DH, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 6/11, 3:45 PM CT
Jonny Gomes is serving the final day of his five game suspension today.

Our View: Carl Crawford will miss the next four games, so Gomes should see plenty of action over the weekend against the Marlins.
Shaun Marcum, P, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 6/11, 3:39 PM CT
Shaun Marcum looked very sharp against the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday but did not factor in the decision. Marcum pitched seven innings, registering nine strikeouts and giving up just one run.

Our View: Marcum continues to impress. He has given up just five earned runs over his last four starts.
Carl Crawford, LF, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 6/11, 3:23 PM CT
Marc Lancaster of the Tampa Bay Tribune reports that Carl Crawford will begin serving his four-game suspension on Friday.

Our View: Crawford was suspended for his role in a brawl with the Boston Red Sox.
Felix Hernandez, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 6/11, 2:44 PM CT
Felix Hernandez continued his dominance Wednesday, giving up just one unearned run in eight innings of work against the Toronto Blue Jays. He struck out eight and walked one.

Our View: King Felix has not given up an earned run in 21 innings dating back to May 26.
B.J. Ryan, P, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 6/11, 2:21 PM CT
B.J. Ryan has endured a terrible start to June. His loss on Wednesday, his third in less than two weeks, came at the hands of the Seattle Mariners. In his last four innings of work he has yielded seven hits and three walks on his way to giving up six runs.

Our View: Ryan is certainly struggling but it does not appear he is in danger of losing his closer's role.
Brandon Morrow, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 6/11, 2:15 PM CT
Brandon Morrow came on for an injured J.J. Putz in the ninth inning Wednesday and picked up his first save of the season, striking out two batters before getting Lyle Overbay to fly out to the warning track to end the game.

Our View: It was clear that Putz did not look right Wednesday, and he really hasn't looked right all season. Morrow will take over the closing duties if J.J. has to miss some time. Beat the rush and go pick him up now.
Garret Anderson, LF, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 6/11, 2:12 PM CT
Garret Anderson is out of today's lineup because of a sore right knee, according to the Orange County Register. Reggie Willits replaced him in left field.

Our View: Anderson was supposed to play but admitted to manager Mike Scioscia that his knee was bothering him. Consider him day-to-day for now.
J.J. Putz, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 6/11, 2:07 PM CT
J.J. Putz left Wednesday's game in the ninth inning with an apparent arm injury. Brandon Morrow came on to replace him.

Our View: We'll update Putz's status when more info becomes available.
Shannon Stewart, LF, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 6/11, 1:37 PM CT
Shannon Stewart is healing, according to MLB.com, and remains hopeful for a quick return to the Blue Jays lineup. "Feels a lot better," Stewart said Wednesday. "I don't think [the recovery time] is going to be as long as I thought it was.".
Dustin McGowan, P, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 6/11, 1:33 PM CT
Baseball Musings makes an interesting point regarding Dustin McGowan. McGowan, who has long had problems seeing in low-light conditions, visited a doctor during spring training and finally received his new glasses before a start May 30 against the Los Angeles Angels. He's gone 2-0 with a 2.40 ERA in two night starts since donning the specs. "I can't see at night because of glare and shadows, so when they're giving signs, it's hard to see," McGowan said. "I think my catchers got tired of me crossing them up so I went and saw a doctor and a specialist for them. I might just wear them every game from here on out."

Our View: Hopefully we will see more consistency from McGowan. It worked for Rick Vaughan.
A.J. Pierzynski, C, Chicago White SoxWednesday 6/11, 1:33 PM CT
A.J. Pierzynski extended his hitting streak to eight game with a 2-for-3 performance on Tuesday night against the Tigers. In fact the White Sox catcher is hot. His two hits last night gives him five multi-hit games during his current streak.

Our View: Pierzynski is hitting .424 (14-for-33) in the eight games and has raised his season average to .302.
Aaron Laffey, P, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 6/11, 1:26 PM CT
The Indians Confidential reports that Aaron Laffey was named AL Rookie of the Month for May. He went 3-2 with a 0.79 ERA in his five May starts. In his 34.0 innings, he struck out 19 while allowing just 28 hits and seven walks. The 23-year-old left-hander went seven innings in each of his first four May starts and tossed six innings in his last outing in the month, allowing two runs or less in each appearance.

Our View: Well done Aaron. The 23 year-old appears to be the real deal. He has given up just three home runs in 51.1 innings. Two of those came in one game at Texas.
Victor Martinez, C, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 6/11, 1:22 PM CT
Victor Martinez's performance this season has been bad; worst than bad in fact. The All Star is batting only .279 with 21 RBI and 19 runs scored. The fact he's yet to hit a home runs and has only 11 extra base hits in 197 at-bats... is shocking.

Our View: If Martinez isn't suffering from the hamstring injury, his performance has to be containered as a down year. The 30-year old can't have regressed this drastically in such a short time.
Jacoby Ellsbury, CF, Boston Red SoxWednesday 6/11, 1:18 PM CT
Jacoby Ellsbury was back in the Boston lineup on Tuesday after sitting out the three-game series against the Mariners. The Red Sox outfielder went 1-for-5 with a run scored.

Our View: His wrist isn't 100 percent according to reports, but that shouldn't affect his ability to steal bases. It appears safe for daily transaction owners to insert him back into the starting lineup.
Willy Aybar, 3B, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 6/11, 12:51 PM CT
Cliff Floyd was absent from the Rays' starting lineup for the fourth consecutive game Tuesday, and Willy Aybar once again got the start. Floyd told the Tampa Tribune that he isn't 100 percent but was "feeling good enough" to start. The Rays manager Joe Maddon has decided to keep his veteran slugger on the bench and ride the hot hand of Aybar.

Our View: Aybar entered Tuesday on a five-game hitting streak, going 7-for-17 with three doubles and a homer during that stretch. Floyd was 1-for-12 with six strikeouts on the current road trip and hadn't played since going 0-for-4 with a walk Friday in Texas.
Evan Longoria, 3B, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 6/11, 12:46 PM CT
Evan Longoria continues to grow in his role with the Rays. On Monday night the rookie went 3-for-4 with a pair of homers, a double and a walk and became the first Rays rookie to score four runs in a game.

Our View: The third baseman has become quite the celebrity for the Rays, even more so after his multi-hit performance in Los Angeles, where he grew up. There were mobs of reporters, most from the SoCal area, wanting to get the latest from the Rookie of the Year candidate. His .262 average, with three stolen bases, 10 home runs, 32 RBI and 30 runs scored are solid considering he's only played in 55 of Tampa's 65 games.
Eric Hurley, P, Texas RangersWednesday 6/11, 12:39 PM CT
Eric Hurley, who is scheduled to make his major league debut Thursday, told the Dallas Morning News that he's made several adjustments the last month that led to better performances at Triple-A Oklahoma. Hurley is replacing Sidney Ponson who was designated for assignment after what the organization called "actions detrimental to the team."

Our View: The report noted that Hurley goes over his head on the windup now and is keeping his feet more grounded from the stretch. The youngster faces off against Brian Bannister and the Royals at the "K" on Thursday.
Nick Punto, SS, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 6/11, 12:23 PM CT
Nick Punto could possibly be ready to rejoin the team when he's eligible to come off the DL on June 21, according to MLB.com. He is coming back from a left hamstring injury.

Our View: Punto is expected to go out on his second rehab stint this weekend.
Armando Galarraga, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 6/11, 12:16 PM CT
Armando Galarraga picked up his fifth win of the season on Sunday against the Cleveland Indians. With the injury to Jeremy Bonderman and demotion of Dontrelle Willis, Galarraga should be a fixture in Detroit's rotation for the remainder of the season.

Our View: He has a 3.70 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP through 58.1 innings and is a must-own. He has received nearly six runs per game in support.
Maicer Izturis, SS, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 6/11, 12:01 PM CT
Maicer Izturis has increased his hitting streak to 10 games. He is hitting .432 over that stretch with two home runs, seven runs scored and six RBI.

Our View: Izturis is excelling at the top of the order but may be moved back to the bottom once Chone Figgins returns.
Jeremy Accardo, P, Toronto Blue Jays
