Nomar Garciaparra, SS, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 6/3, 11:57 PM CT
Dodger infielder Nomar Garciaparra recently completed a full battery of of medical tests and doctors now believe his constant struggles with frequent calf pulls may be the result of unidentified blood-flow problems, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Our View: Garciaparra, who sat out three weeks because of a strained left calf last summer, went on the disabled list April 26 with another strain in the same area. And while he doesn't consider the situation career-threatening, until doctors find the reason for the problem the six-time All-Star said they have no idea how to treat it.
Joe Saunders, P, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 6/3, 11:50 PM CT
Joe Saunders rebounded from his worst outing of the year with a superb effort Tuesday. The lefty allowed one run on six hits and a walk while striking out five over seven innings. He moved his record to 9-2 on the year.

Our View: Saunders continues to defy the odds with such a low strikeout rate. He'll get pounded at times, but it's clear at this point that you should start him every time out.
Jeffrey Manship, P, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 6/3, 11:45 PM CT
Jeff Manship threw a complete game shutout four-hitter for High-A Fort Myers on Tuesday. He allowed one walk and struck out five batters.

Our View: Manship has pretty much picked up right where he left off last season. The 23-year-old is somewhat old for his level, but he has shown the command and groundball ability to move quickly through the minors. He has an upside as a back of the rotation starter.
Brent Clevlen, LF, Detroit TigersTuesday 6/3, 11:44 PM CT
Brent Clevlen hit a pair of home runs and drove in five baserunners for Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.

Our View: At the rate that the Tigers are going, Clevlen could finish the season out as a regular. The former top prospect had a terrible year in 2006, but he is reemerging this season by hitting .330-12-54. Only 24-years-old, his rebound is encouraging.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 6/3, 11:40 PM CT
St. Louis RHP Kyle Lohse earned his third consecutive win this evening as the Cards put the 6-1 win on the Nationals. Lohse pitched five innings, allowing just one run on four hits with no walks and two strikeouts.

Our View: In those three consecutive wins, Lohse has totaled just one walk, seven strikeouts, and two earned runs allowed.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 6/3, 11:37 PM CT
The Cardinals put the 6-1 hurt on the Washington Nationals this evening with catcher Yadier Molina leading the charge. Molina went 2-for-5 at the dish with his third homer of the season, good for three RBIs on the night.

Our View: Molina is now 8-for-19 over his last five games with five RBIs and four runs scored.
Odalis Perez, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/3, 11:31 PM CT
Washington LHP Odalis Perez suffered his fifth loss of the season this evening as the Nationals fell 6-1 to the St. Louis Cardinals. Perez lasted just three innings, surrendering four runs (only one earned) on five hits with two walks and no strikeouts.

Our View: Perez was troubled in April going 0-3 but had rebounded in May, going 2-1. Now it appears he is in the midst of struggles once more, suffering his worst start to date.
Ryan Langerhans, LF, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/3, 11:27 PM CT
The Washington Nationals found tough times against the St. Louis Cardinals this evening, falling 6-1 with a total of six hits for the entire team. Outfielder Ryan Langerhans is the player of note, going 1-for-3 with the Nationals' lone RBI of the night.

Our View: Langerhans has struggled since coming to the majors, hitting just .167 through eight games in May, picking up his second RBI of the season this evening.
Milton Bradley, DH, Texas RangersTuesday 6/3, 11:16 PM CT
Milton Bradley belted a pair of homers in Texas' 12-7 win over Cleveland Tuesday. He now has 11 dingers on the year, to go along with 36 RBI and a .323 batting mark.

Our View: Bradley is showing what he can bring to the table when he stays healthy. His move into the DH spot has likely kept him fresher, though he played right field tonight.
Dana Eveland, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 6/3, 11:12 PM CT
Dana Eveland has displayed pretty good control this year, but that was not the case Tuesday night as the lefty walked seven in 4 1/3 innings. He also allowed three runs and three hits with three Ks.

Our View: Eveland has followed up his first ever complete game with a couple of stinkers. He's probably better served as a spot starter for your fantasy team right now.
Dontrelle Willis, P, Detroit TigersTuesday 6/3, 11:09 PM CT
In his first start since coming off the DL, Dontrelle Willis tossed four scoreless inning Tuesday night, allowing just two hits while striking out three. Unfortunately, Willis also continued to display the control problems that have plagued him, walking five.

Our View: Willis isn't usable in mixed leagues right now until he solves his control issues.
Shin-Soo Choo, RF, Cleveland IndiansTuesday 6/3, 11:05 PM CT
Shin-Soo Choo pinch-hit for Franklin Gutierrez Tuesday and finished the night with a two-RBI double and solo home run in his two at-bats. Choo has three hits in seven at-bats to go along with a .636 OBP since being recalled.

Our View: Gutierrez also had two hits on the night but is batting just .255 for the year. Choo could start seeing more time in right field if he continues to hit.
Taylor Tankersley, P, Florida MarlinsTuesday 6/3, 10:57 PM CT
The Marlins have optioned LHP Taylor Tankersley to Triple-A Albuquerque, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The team has been carrying 13 pitchers, and manager Fredi Gonzalez said a position player will be brought up before Wednesday's 1:10 p.m. ET game with the Braves at Turner Field.
A.J. Murray, P, Texas RangersTuesday 6/3, 10:41 PM CT
A.J. Murray, who left Tuesday's outing after 2 1/3 innings, has been diagnosed with a left rotator cuff strain by team doctor Keith Meister, according to the Star-Telegram. The team will wait 7-10 days before re-evaluating the left-hander.

Our View: Murray has a history of shoulder problems. He missed the entire 2006 season after having shoulder surgery and missed the 2004 season after having surgery to repair a torn labrum. A DL stint seems very likely.
Kevin Correia, P, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 6/3, 10:40 PM CT
San Francisco RHP Kevin Correia has likely made his final rehab start for Triple-A Fresno, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Correia has been on the disabled list since April 27 because of a strained muscle in his left side, but he is expected to return to San Francisco on Wednesday and rejoin the pitching rotation to start on June 15.
Vernon Wells, CF, Toronto Blue JaysTuesday 6/3, 10:37 PM CT
Vernon Wells took batting practice Tuesday and manager John Gibbons said the outfielder reported no problems, according to the AP. Wells is coming back from a broken wrist.

Our View: Wells could possibly be back by the end of the month if all goes well.
Justin Morneau, 1B, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 6/3, 10:36 PM CT
Justin Morneau was in the lineup again Tuesday despite a sore left knee and a sore calf, according to the AP. Manager Ron Gardenhire said he might give Morneau a day or two in DH spot to let him rest.

Our View: Fantasy owners don't care where if Morneau is in the DH spot or at first, just as long as his hot bat in the lineup.
Ichiro Suzuki, RF, Seattle MarinersTuesday 6/3, 10:33 PM CT
Ichiro Suzuki's .288 batting average is disappointing by his standards, but the outfielder has not disappointed in the steals department, as he has been successful on 24 of 26 attempts this season. That puts him on pace for 67 thefts on the year, which would be 13 more than his career high and 30 more than he managed last season.

Our View: Ichiro's stolen base production will probably tail off a bit, but his batting average is sure to rise.
Seth McClung, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 6/3, 10:31 PM CT
Milwaukee RHP Seth McClung put his best effort forth this evening and helped his Brewers to a dominating 7-1 victory over Arizona. McClung pitched six innings, allowing one run on six his without a single walk surrendered and four strikeouts on the night.

Our View: McClung has won two of his last three starts with no walks surrendered in either.
J.J. Hardy, SS, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 6/3, 10:28 PM CT
The Milwaukee Brewers put the offense in full effect this evening, beating the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-1. Shortstop J.J. Hardy did more than his fair share in contributing a 2-for-4 performance at the plate, hitting his third home run of the season to finish with two RBIs and two runs scored on the night.

Our View: Hardy has struggled to meet offensive needs, posting just seven RBIs through the month of May.
Alexei Ramirez, SS, Chicago White SoxTuesday 6/3, 10:23 PM CT
Alexei Ramirez had a single, double and home run while driving in two and scoring two in Tuesday's 9-5 win over Kansas City.

Our View: Ramirez is batting .444 with a couple homers over the last eight days and is making a strong case to be the team's everyday second baseman.
Randy Johnson, P, Arizona DiamondbacksTuesday 6/3, 10:21 PM CT
Arizona LHP Randy Johnson pushed himself into the second spot on the all-time strikeout leaders list this evening, but despite a strong effort from the mound, the offense failed to back his work and left him with the loss in a 7-1 fall against Milwaukee. Johnson pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits, surrendering just one walk with eight strikeouts.

Our View: Johnson now carries a record of 4-2 on the season, and while he was a perfect 3-0 for the month of May, he is starting June on the wrong foot (though you have to like his 15 walks versus 64 strikeouts thus far).
George Sherrill, P, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 6/3, 10:20 PM CT
George Sherrill recorded his 19th save of the season on Tuesday night, retiring the Twins in order while striking out one in a 5-3 win.

Our View: Only K-Rod has more saves than Sherrill this year. Yet another reason why you should not pay for saves on auction day.
Radhames Liz, P, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 6/3, 10:17 PM CT
Radhames Liz won his 2008 debut Tuesday, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out four over 5 1/3 innings.

Our View: Liz is a nice prospect and has dominated at times at the minor league level. This is an impressive first start, but you should take a wait-and-see approach on him outside of AL-only leagues.
Mark Reynolds, 3B, Arizona DiamondbacksTuesday 6/3, 10:15 PM CT
Arizona was struggling from the outset this evening, taking the 7-1 loss against the Milwaukee Brewers, but the finger of blame does not fall towards third baseman Mark Reynolds . Reynolds went 2-for-3 with a walk at the plate, the only Arizona batter with multiple hits, hitting his seventh double of the season to total one RBI on the night.

Our View: Reynolds hit just .235 for the month of May, but he appears to be headed in the right direction, going 9-for-20 over his last seven games.
Albert Pujols, 1B, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 6/3, 10:09 PM CT
St. Louis first baseman Albert Pujols has left tonight's battle with Washington early due to the tightness in his leg, according to CBSSports.com.

Our View: Pujols left the game in the fourth inning after complaining of tightness in his left calf. The injury is not suspected to be serious, though he is done for the night.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 6/3, 9:59 PM CT
Houston LHP Wandy Rodriguez was stellar on the mound in support of the Astros' 2-0 win over Pittsburgh this evening, pitching six innings of shutout baseball with five hits allowed, one walk, and three strikeouts.

Our View: Rodriguez struggled with control his last time out, taking the loss with just four innings pitched, allowing four walks versus just one strikeout. Tonight he was on his game and looks to be improving as he moves forward.
Kazuo Matsui, 2B, Houston AstrosTuesday 6/3, 9:55 PM CT
Houston put 10 hits on the Pirates this evening and needed each and every one of them pulling the 2-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Second baseman Kazuo Matsui led the way, going 4-for-4 (all singles) with two runs scored.

Our View: Matsui was caught stealing for the third time this season and his numbers have slipped a bit coming into tonight, hitting just .259 through the month of May. This may give the jolt needed to get back on track.
Zack Greinke, P, Kansas City RoyalsTuesday 6/3, 9:54 PM CT
Zack Greinke was rocked for eight runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out three over six innings Tuesday. He surrendered four home runs to the White Sox.

Our View: Greinke's ERA still sits at a very respectable 3.56 after this outing, but he's given up at least six runs in two of his last three starts.
Phil Dumatrait, P, Pittsburgh PiratesTuesday 6/3, 9:51 PM CT
Pittsburgh LHP Phil Dumatrait pitched reasonably well for his Pirates this evening, but the end result was a 2-0 loss. Dumatrait pitched six innings, allowing two runs (both earned) on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: Dumatrait now carries a respectable 3.46 ERA and now sits at 2-3 on the season.
Joel Zumaya, P, Detroit TigersTuesday 6/3, 9:50 PM CT
Joel Zumaya was sharp in his first rehab outing Tuesday at High-A Lakeland, throwing 24 pitches over two scoreless innings. He allowed a hit and a walk and struck out one while topping out at 101 MPH on the radar gun, according to MLB.com. The reliever is coming back from surgery to repair the A/C joint in his right shoulder.

Our View: Manager Jim Leyland said over the weekend that Zumaya could be back with the club before the end of the month if all goes well.
Jack Wilson, SS, Pittsburgh PiratesTuesday 6/3, 9:46 PM CT
Pittsburgh managed just five hits this evening as they suffer the shutout loss to the Houston Astros, 2-0, with shortstop Jack Wilson serving as the only offensive performance of note. Wilson went 2-for-4 at the plate with his third double of the season.

Our View: Wilson has hit well since returning from injury, going 10-for-24, though he has just one RBI and one run scored.
Lenny DiNardo, P, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 6/3, 9:43 PM CT
Lenny DiNardo was outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento Tuesday, four days after the A's designated the lefty for assignment.

Our View: DiNardo doesn't need to be on your fantasy radar for any reason.
Carl Crawford, LF, Tampa Bay RaysTuesday 6/3, 9:41 PM CT
Carl Crawford grounded out as a pinch hitter Tuesday. He didn't start for the second straight game because of soreness in his right knee and hamstring.

Our View: Carl could be back in action tomorrow.
Jorge Campillo, P, Atlanta BravesTuesday 6/3, 9:40 PM CT
The Braves earned the 5-4 win over Florida this evening, but pitching wasn't the name of the game. Starting RHP Jorge Campillo lasted just four innings to allow four runs (all earned) on six hits with one walk allowed and three strikeouts on the night.

Our View: Campillo left with no decision and remains at just 2-0 this eason.
Justin Masterson, P, Boston Red SoxTuesday 6/3, 9:39 PM CT
Justin Masterson picked up the win for the Red Sox Tuesday, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five over six frames. He now boasts a 2.95 ERA after his first three starts for the Sox.

Our View: Masterson should get at least one more start while Dice-K is on the DL, and he may be worth an add for those looking for a fill-in.
Chipper Jones, 3B, Atlanta BravesTuesday 6/3, 9:37 PM CT
Third baseman Chipper Jones continues to carry the load for the Atlanta Braves as they earned a 5-4 win over Florida this evening. Jones went 2-for-4 at the dish, hitting his 13th home run of the season to total three RBIs and two runs scored on the night.

Our View: Jones is now hitting .409 on the season, going 40-for-96 through May.
A.J. Murray, P, Texas RangersTuesday 6/3, 9:37 PM CT
A.J. Murray had to leave Tuesday's start after 2 1/3 innings due to soreness in his pitching shoulder. He gave up a run on six hits and a walk before exiting.

Our View: We'll update you on Murray's situation when more info becomes available.
Dan Uggla, 2B, Florida MarlinsTuesday 6/3, 9:33 PM CT
The Marlins suffered the 5-4 loss to the Atlanta Braves this evening, but second baseman Dan Uggla continued to show his team the way to better returns. Uggla went 2-for-3 with a walk at the plate, hitting two home runs ( and on the season) to total three RBIs and two runs scored on the evening.

Our View: Uggla hit .347 through the month of May and appears to be on his way towards another strong month, going 4-for-8 over his last two games.
Adam Eaton, P, Philadelphia PhilliesTuesday 6/3, 9:22 PM CT
Philadelphia RHP Adam Eaton picked up his second win of the season this evening as the Phillies put the 3-2 win on the Cincinnati Reds. Eaton pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing just one run on three hits with no walks surrendered and five strikeouts.

Our View: Eaton was just 1-3 through the month of May, but his performance this evening could be a sign of better days to come.
Chase Utley, 2B, Philadelphia PhilliesTuesday 6/3, 9:19 PM CT
Philadelphia second baseman Chase Utley continues to work as a force of reckoning, going 2-for-3 this evening with a walk and his 17th double of the season as the Phillies put the Reds to bed, 3-2.

Our View: Utley totaled one RBI and one run scored as well, now sporting at least one RBI in each of his last eight games with at least one run scored in his last nine.
Jimmy Rollins, SS, Philadelphia PhilliesTuesday 6/3, 9:14 PM CT
The Phillies did plenty of hitting his evening but had to fight for the 3-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds. The man of the hour was leadoff man Jimmy Rollins , going 3-for-4 at the dish with his 15th double of the season and two stolen bases (now carrying 10 on the season) with a run scored.

Our View: Rollins is hitting well, posting a .298 batting average in May, and he continues to swipe bases with regularity (six of his 10 stolen bags coming in May).
Aaron Harang, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 6/3, 9:10 PM CT
Cincinnati RHP Aaron Harang suffered yet another troubling loss this evening as his Reds fell 3-2 to the Phillies. Harang went six innings to allow three runs (all earned) on nine hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

Our View: This bring Harang to 2-8 on the season, though he has allowed just 20 walks versus 78 strikeouts on the season.
Edwin Encarnacion, 3B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 6/3, 9:06 PM CT
The Reds have suffered the 3-2 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies this evening, though third baseman Edwin Encarnacion did what he could to get his team on track. Encarnacion went 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple (his first of the season) and his 10th home run of the season, totaling one RBI and two runs scored on the evening.

Our View: Encarnacion came through the month of May with just one home run and eight RBIs, but he now carries homers in each of his last two games, going 6-for-16 over his last four games.
Salomon Torres, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 6/3, 9:01 PM CT
Milwaukee reliever Salomon Torres is reportedly making manager Ned Yost rethink what he may do when regular closer Eric Gagne returns from injury, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Torres has pitched well in his new role as the head of the closer-by-committee approach the Brewers are now employing, carrying a 2.62 ERA coming into Tuesday with saves converted in five of his last six opportunities. Monday night's game brought the bullpen's contribution front and center, as Guillermo Mota and Torres pitched two scoreless innings in a game that the Brewers won by just a run. Torres was hindered by two Brewers errors, but was able to escape trouble and close out the game.
Ryan Freel, CF, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 6/3, 8:51 PM CT
Cincinnati outfielder Ryan Freel has left tonight's game against the Phillies due to a leg injury, according to the Sports Network.

Our View: Freel was running out a ground ball to short, but he fell to the ground two steps out of the batter's box and was grabbing his leg. Shortstop Jerry Hairston, Jr. was moved to center field as Paul Janish took over short. We will update with news as it comes forth.
Delwyn Young, LF, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 6/3, 8:48 PM CT
The Dodgers have given the start in right field tonight to Delwyn Young, sitting Andre Ethier on the bench, according to the LA Daily News.

Our View: Ethier has struggled against left-handed pitchers and thus Young gets the call. Young will bhit sixth in the batting order.
Ryan Speier, P, Colorado RockiesTuesday 6/3, 8:45 PM CT
The Rockies have activated RHP Ryan Speier from the disabled list, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Speier missed 20 games with a bruised right shoulder, and the club went 5-15 in his absence. Prior to his injury May 12, Speier was 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA in 15 relief appearances and held opponents to a .262 batting average. To make room on the roster, Colorado has optioned RHP Alberto Arias to Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Matt Clement, P, Tuesday 6/3, 8:35 PM CT
St. Louis RHP Matt Clement completed his first minor-league rehab assignment today, and the reports indicate it went well, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Clement threw with solid velocity pitching for Class-A Palm Beach, completing six innings of work with no runs allowed on just one hit, striking out five without a walk surrendered. Clement used just 73 pitches to earn 18 outs along the way, hitting 88 mph on the radar gun with curveballs and sliders thrown in the mix. He will start again in five days as Palm Beach faces Tampa.
Ian Kennedy, P, New York YankeesTuesday 6/3, 8:25 PM CT
Ian Kennedy, recovering from a strained right lat, made 35 throws while playing catch from 60 feet Tuesday, according to MLB.com. Kennedy said he didn't feel anything during the throwing session, and he's been relatively pain-free since Thursday. "Thursday, I felt a little something there because that was our first day of really stretching it out, trying to rub things out," Kennedy said. "On Friday, it felt significantly better. Saturday, it felt really good, and Sunday even better."

Our View: There is currently no timetable for Kennedy's return, though it's possible he could wind up back in the minors.
Victor Martinez, C, Cleveland IndiansTuesday 6/3, 8:18 PM CT
A sore left hamstring kept Victor Martinez out of the lineup Tuesday for the second time in three games. However, he's not expected to need a stint in the DL. "Not right now," manager Eric Wedge said on MLB.com. "As long as the time off gives him help. It doesn't affect him when he's catching, which is a tremendous bonus for us." Wedge said the hamstring clearly affected Martinez when he faced lefty Eddie Guardado in Monday's game, which is why V-Mart was held out of the lineup against Rangers left-handed starter A.J. Murray on Tuesday. "It looked like [the hamstring] grabbed him from the right side," Wedge said.

Our View: The Indians won't face another lefty until Sunday, so hopefully V-Mart will return to the lineup shortly. We'll keep you updated on his condition.
Ryan Wagner, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/3, 8:08 PM CT
Washington reliever Ryan Wagner , currently residing on the team's 60-day disabled list, has rejoined the team after a small stint in extended spring training, according to CBSSports.com.

Our View: Wagner underwent major shoulder surgery 12 months ago, but his recovery is going well and the team hopes to put him through a simulated game on Thursday. From there, a potential rehab assignment could follow.
Randy Johnson, P, Arizona DiamondbacksTuesday 6/3, 8:02 PM CT
Arizona LHP Randy Johnson has taken sole possession of second place on baseball's career strikeout list, sending Mike Cameron back to the dugout in the first inning of tonight's game versus Milwaukee, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: It was Johnson's 4,673rd career strikeout, breaking a tie with Roger Clemens and leaving the Arizona Diamondbacks' veteran ace behind only Nolan Ryan, who had 5,714 strikeouts in his career. The 44-year-old hurler has 288 career victories, tying him with Tommy John for 24th in the big leagues and leaving him only 12 short of 300.
Jorge Posada, C, New York YankeesTuesday 6/3, 8:02 PM CT
Jorge Posada, recovering from soreness in his throwing shoulder, could be back by in the lineup Thursday, according to the AP. He caught seven innings and went 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly and a walk Tuesday in an extended spring game. "His arm was great today," manager Joe Girardi said. "So probably this evening after the game, maybe I'll talk to [general manager Brian Cashman] on my way home and might see him in there on Thursday."

Our View: Posada is scheduled for a day off from fielding Wednesday but could serve as the DH in another extended spring game if the Yanks decides it wants him to catch a couple more games before rejoining the team.
Nick Blackburn, P, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 6/3, 7:53 PM CT
Nick Blackburn, who had to leave Sunday's start after getting hit in the face by a line drive, took some choppers hit right back at him Tuesday to test his nerves, according to MLB.com. The pitcher admitted to having jitters, but he came through the session fine. "[Third base coach Scott Ullger] hit one that skipped and I was a little jumpy," Blackburn said. "But it's good to get it out of the way."

Our View: Blackburn has some swelling in his face, but it's gone down dramatically since he was hit. He's expected to take his regular turn in the rotation on Friday.
Brendan Ryan, SS, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 6/3, 7:40 PM CT
St. Louis shortstop Brendan Ryan is dealing with neck and upper back soreness, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The Cardinals have held Ryan out of the lineup this evening but feel he won't need time on the disabled list. Ryan reports he first felt the pain on Monday afternoon during pregame warm-ups, but the team is keeping him in mind should a pinch hitter be needed. On the field, Aaron Miles will get the start in his stead.
Mike Aviles, SS, Kansas City RoyalsTuesday 6/3, 7:39 PM CT
Mike Aviles started last Thursday at shortstop but hasn't played since. The position has been a revolving door lately for the Royals, but manager Trey Hillman sees Aviles as a backup for the time being. "Just as an extra for us. Not to depreciate his value but that's what he is for right now," Hillman said on MLB.com.

Our View: Aviles was batting .338 with 21 doubles, six triples and 10 home runs for Triple-A Omaha at the time of his recall, so he obviously brings more to the table offensively than Pena. He could be worth eying in fantasy if he gains more playing time.
Tony Pena Jr., SS, Kansas City RoyalsTuesday 6/3, 7:32 PM CT
Tony Pena Jr. was back in the starting lineup Tuesday after the Royals used four different shortstops in four games. "Tony's playing today and we'll see how he does. Hopefully, some of the work that we got done this last homestand will play out," manager Trey Hillman said on MLB.com.

Our View: Pena provides good defense but is batting an embarrassingly-low .155. Unless he steps it up, expect the team to continue trying other out at the position.
John Smoltz, P, Atlanta BravesTuesday 6/3, 7:29 PM CT
Atlanta RHP John Smoltz reports he is feeling "pretty sore" today, one day after returning from the DL to make relief appearance in the Braves 7-5 win over Florida, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The veteran right-hander, who on Monday began his second stint in the Braves' bullpen, allowed two runs on three hits and blew the save against the Marlins. It was the first time he had faced Major League hitters since April 27. The team reports his status moving forward will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis, but they are highly unlikely to pitch Smoltz on back-to-back days.
Joba Chamberlain, P, New York YankeesTuesday 6/3, 7:24 PM CT
Joba Chamberlain's first big-league start didn't go as well as hoped. Joba lasted just 2 1/3 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit and four walks while striking out three.

Our View: Joba's control evaded him Tuesday evening. He threw 62 pitches in the outing. Once he gets that pitch count up he'll be the fantasy factor that everyone is expecting.
Mike Hampton, P, Atlanta BravesTuesday 6/3, 7:24 PM CT
Atlanta LHP Mike Hampton threw off a mound today, the first time he's tossed off the hill since the Braves removed him from the lineup before a planned start on April 3rd, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Hampton took part in a bullpen session today and reports he feels no immediate pain or discomfort as a result of the 25 pitches thrown. The hurler has been on the DL since April 3rd with a strained left pectoral muscle, but the team now believes he could return to the starting rotation before the July All-Star break.
Josh Willingham, LF, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/3, 7:17 PM CT
Florida outfielder Josh Willingham took 25 pain-free swings off a tee in the batting cage today, according to MLB.com.

Our View: This is his second consecutive day swinging the stick and he reports no pain or discomfort. The team plans to have Willingham take 25 more swings tomorrow, this time against soft tosses. Willingham has been on the DL since May 2nd with a lower back strain and a herniated disc. If things go well tomorrow, the Marlins will repeat that exercise on Thursday, but plans after that have not revealed.
Kevin Hart, P, Chicago CubsTuesday 6/3, 7:04 PM CT
The Chicago Cubs have recalled RHP Kevin Hart from Triple-A Iowa, according to ChicagoSports.com.

Our View: Hart will be a part of the Cubbies' bullpen, a dire situation in need of healthy and strong arms. To make room for Hart, first baseman Micah Hoffpauir has been designated for assignment.
Dioner Navarro, C, Tampa Bay RaysTuesday 6/3, 6:48 PM CT
With Carl Crawford out of the lineup, hot-hitting catcher Dioner Navarro was penciled into the No. 2 spot Tuesday. "He reminds me a lot of Carl Crawford," manager Joe Maddon told MLB.com with a chuckle. "The thing about that is, [Navarro is] a switch-hitter. There's a lot of things you can do with him. He plays a pretty complete game. He's not fast, but he's a very good baserunner. If you look at his on-base percentage hitting left-handed [.404], I'm just trying to get people on base in front of the three, four, five guys."

Our View: Navarro would be leading the AL with his .352 batting mark if he had enough at-bats to qualify. He's been a nice late-round bargain so far, though his power numbers (one homer, 18 RBI), aren't anything to write home about.
Scott Olsen, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/3, 6:44 PM CT
The Marlins have been concerned with Scott Olsen's lack of velocity in recent starts, but the lefty's velocity was better in Monday's start. He had been topping out at 85 lately, but Monday he was averaging 88 MPH and touched 92. "I felt good. My fastball was coming out pretty well," Olsen said on MLB.com. Olsen's slider was also much improved Monday after pitching coach Mark Wiley detected something in the southpaw's delivery before the game, which was corrected.

Our View: Olsen is off to a nice start this year despite a big drop in his strikeout rate. Keep an eye on those radar gun readings to make sure he doesn't go through another "dead arm" period.
Brian Schneider, C, New York MetsTuesday 6/3, 6:42 PM CT
The Mets reports catcher Brian Schneider will be out of the lineup tonight as New York faces San Francisco, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View: He will be replaced by Ramon Castro, batting eighth in the order.
Luis Castillo, 2B, New York MetsTuesday 6/3, 6:39 PM CT
Still battling a hip flexor, Mets second baseman Luis Castillo will once again be out of the lineup this evening has New York faces off with San Francisco, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View: Castillo is still listed as day-to-day, but he has struggled with this same leg for most of the season. He will be replaced by Damion Easley, batting second in the order.
