Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 5/11, 11:47 PM CT
Left-hander Erik Bedard pitched a superb game in his last start against the Rangers at Safeco Field, surrendering six hits and two runs over seventh innings. It was his third straight quality start, but he has only one win to show for it. The Mariners' offense has produced one run for Bedard in the last 14 innings he has pitched. Right-handed hitters are batting .157 (13-for-83) against him.

Our View: Bedard and the M's travel to Texas on Monday for the start of a three-game series.
Tim Wakefield, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 5/11, 11:08 PM CT
Tim Wakefield's knuckleball was everywhere on Sunday night, and the right-hander didn't look anything like the pitcher that was 7-3 with a 3.95 ERA in his career versus the Twins. Wakefield allowed seven runs (six earned) on seven hits in just 2.2 innings on Sunday, the earliest he's been knocked out of a start since June 20, 1997, at Detroit, when he lasted just 2.1 innings.

Our View: Wakefield twice lasted only two innings since, but one was a tuneup before the playoffs started on Sept. 28, 2003. The other was at Milwaukee on June 6, 2003, when he was hit by a pitch on the ankle in the third inning and taken out of the game.
Joe Nathan, P, Minnesota TwinsSunday 5/11, 11:05 PM CT
Joe Nathan gave up two runs in the ninth, but won a showdown with pinch-hitter Manny Ramirez by getting him to ground out to shortstop with the tying run on second base to pick up his 12th save in as many chances.

Our View: It was Nathan's first appearance in a week, and the rust showed. The Twins fireman is 12-for-12 in save opportunities.
Brandon Boggs, LF, Texas RangersSunday 5/11, 10:45 PM CT
Rookie outfielder Brandon Boggs is expected to start his 12th straight game in left field on Monday against Seattle. Boggs is 7-for-17 over his last five games, including falling a triple shy of the cycle on Friday.

Our View: On Sunday, Boggs drew a walk and scored in the third inning. His defense has saved runs for the Rangers too.
Ken Griffey Jr., RF, Chicago White SoxSunday 5/11, 10:40 PM CT
Ken Griffey Jr. remained stalled at 597 home runs in his bid to become the sixth player with 600.

Our View: He went 0-for-2 with two walks on Sunday in New York, and hasn't homered since April 23.
Jose Vidro, DH, Seattle MarinersSunday 5/11, 10:11 PM CT
The Mariners designated hitter, Jose Vidro , didn't play Sunday against the White Sox because of back spasms.

Our View: He has missed five of the last six games due to the ailment.
Gookie Dawkins, SS, Seattle MarinersSunday 5/11, 9:54 PM CT
The White Sox signed infielder Gookie Dawkins to a minor league contract on Sunday.

Our View: Anyone who grew up with the name Gookie, has to be one tough Cookie,I mean Gookie.
Adam Greenberg, OF, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 5/11, 9:52 PM CT
The Angels signed outfielder Adam Greenberg to a minor league contract on Saturday night.

Our View: Greenberg hasn't been the same since being hit in the head by a pitch in his first ever major league at bat.
J.P. Howell, P, Tampa Bay RaysSunday 5/11, 8:49 PM CT
J.P. Howell pitched three scoreless innings in relief of starter Andy Sonnanstine to get his second win of the season as the Rays scored a 8-5 victory over the Angels.

Our View: Howell made his 11th appearance of the season. He has pitched 24 innings this year allowing 19 hits, walking nine and striking out 22.
J.J. Putz, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 5/11, 8:42 PM CT
J.J. Putz recorded his third save as the Mariners held on to beat the White Sox 6-3 on Sunday. Putz worked the ninth for his first save since April 22.

Our View: The Seattle closer walked Joe Crede with two outs before he struck out Nick Swisher. Putz is beginning to get his timing back after missing time on the disabled list.
Miguel Batista, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 5/11, 8:38 PM CT
Miguel Batista allowed three runs on 10 hits, walked three and struck out six on a season-high 115 pitches. Batista somehow hung on long enough to record his third win of the season.

Our View: Batista has been suffering from a foot injury that has nagged him since last year and once again the right-hander struggled with his command.
Gavin Floyd, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 5/11, 8:29 PM CT
Gavin Floyd, who has toyed with no-hitters and been one of the toughest pitchers to hit this season, allowed five runs on nine hits in only 3.2 innings of work Sunday in a loss to the Mariners.

Our View: Floyd entered with a major league-leading opponent batting average of .149. He carried a no-hitter into the ninth Tuesday against Minnesota and into the seventh April 12 against Detroit.
Sean Gallagher, P, Oakland AthleticsSunday 5/11, 5:54 PM CT
The Chicago Cubs and Arizona Diamondbacks held Carlos Zambrano and Randy Johnson out of Sunday's game because of heavy rain, strong winds and temperatures in the 40s in Chicago. Instead, the Cubs' Sean Gallagher started his first start of the season. The Cubs right-hander allowed four runs on five hits, walked three and struck out five in 4.1 innings of work.

Our View: Gallagher didn't factor into the decision, but did enough to help the Cubs to a three-game sweep of the Diamondbacks. Johnson, who had offseason back surgery, is 2-1 with a 5.06 ERA this season but has a 12-0 career record against the Cubs. Zambrano (5-1, 1.80 ERA) is off to one of his best starts but has struggled in four outings against Arizona, going 1-2 with a 4.88 ERA. Zambrano is scheduled to pitch Monday against San Diego, but the rotation is unclear beyond that.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSunday 5/11, 4:41 PM CT
The finale of the weekend series between the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers was postponed by rain on Sunday. A makeup date wasn't immediately announced. Yankees' starter Andy Pettitte is scheduled to pitch on Monday at Tampa Bay. Nate Robertson of the Tigers, has not been announced as Detroit's pitcher for Tuesday's contest at Kansas City.

Our View: There is a chance the Tigers will skip Robertson to keep their top three starters on regular rest.
A.J. Burnett, P, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 5/11, 4:26 PM CT
Postponed by rain on Sunday, the Toronto Blue Jays and Cleveland Indians are now scheduled to play the first traditional doubleheader at Progressive Field in more than 10 years. Right-handers A.J. Burnett of Toronto and Cleveland's Fausto Carmona, who were Sunday's scheduled starters, are set to pitch the first game Monday at 4:05 p.m. Indians left-hander Cliff Lee, off to an impressive start this season at 6-0 with a 0.81 ERA, will face Shaun Marcum in the nightcap that will start 30 minutes after the end of the opener.

Our View: The Indians have played only four traditional doubleheaders at home since their ballpark opened in 1994 and none since Aug. 13, 1997, against Detroit. In recent years, the Indians have rescheduled postponed games on open dates or as part of day-night doubleheaders. Burnett (3-3) will start on five days' rest, not the right-hander's favorite routine. He's 42-36 with a 3.43 ERA on normal rest and 30-33 with a 4.33 ERA in any other situation when starting.
Jarrod Washburn, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 5/11, 4:05 PM CT
Not content to cruise along with a 2-5 record and 5.68 ERA, Jarrod Washburn has added a split-finger fastball to his arsenal. "He doesn't have that out pitch, and has been working on a split," manager John McLaren tells MLB.com. "At this stage of his career, maybe [the splitter] can make a difference for him."

Our View: If this doesn't work, Washburn's next step may be the knuckleball. AL-only fantasy owners should hope this new pitch makes a difference.
Brian Burres, P, Baltimore OriolesSunday 5/11, 4:01 PM CT
Brian Burres lost his third decision in as many starts on Sunday. The southpaw allowed nine hits and four runs over six innings against the Royals. Burres walked two, struck out one, and mixed in a balk. The Orioles backed him with two hits and no runs.

Our View: We're still mildly impressed by Burres' work this year. He is only useful in AL-only leagues, but he has hung in there after a very rough finish in 2007.
Brian Bannister, P, Kansas City RoyalsSunday 5/11, 3:58 PM CT
Brian Bannister snapped out of his recent skid by tossing eight shutout innings against the Orioles on Sunday. He allowed two hits, walked two, and struck out five. Bannister improved to 4-4 with a 3.75 ERA. He earned a loss in each of his previous four starts.

Our View: You take the good, you take the bad, you take 'em both and there you have a decent fantasy pitcher in Brian Bannister. Fantasy owners got a little too excited about his hot start, and we anticipate a lot of ups and downs as the season progresses.
Torii Hunter, CF, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 5/11, 3:51 PM CT
Torii Hunter went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI in Sunday's loss to the Rays. He was previously 2-for-17 during the road trip.

Our View: The Angels finally got on the board after being shutout the previous two nights. Hunter is hitting well this season, but he isn't getting much help. He remains a quality fantasy outfielder.
B.J. Upton, CF, Tampa Bay RaysSunday 5/11, 3:48 PM CT
B.J. Upton went 3-for-5 with three runs, an RBI, and a stolen base in Sunday's win over the Angels.

Our View: Upton has cooled off a little bit since his ultra-hot stretch in mid-April, but a shoulder injury played into his slower stretch. It looks like he is putting the ailment behind him.
Ervin Santana, P, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 5/11, 3:45 PM CT
Ervin Santana didn't move to 7-0 on Sunday, and he was lucky not to take a loss. He allowed three runs in the first inning and left after serving up nine hits and five runs over 5.2 frames. Santana walked one, struck out seven, and took a no-decision.

Our View: Sunday was Santana's worst outing of the season, but fantasy owners can't be too mad. Considering the preseason expectations, Ervin can have a few shaky outings and still look like a star.
Carl Crawford, LF, Tampa Bay RaysSunday 5/11, 3:42 PM CT
Carl Crawford did a bit of everything on Sunday against the Angels. He went 3-for-5 with a homer, two runs, three RBI, and two steals.

Our View: Crawford's homer total and average are still a bit lower than where we'd like them to be, but he remains an all-around fantasy stud.
Dustin Moseley, P, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 5/11, 2:35 PM CT
Dustin Moseley will make a five-inning rehab start at High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Monday, MLB.com confirms. He is on the DL due to a strained right forearm and could return in the coming week.

Our View: Moseley is presumably headed back to the bullpen, where he'll work in long relief and be an emergency starter. That role doesn't equal much fantasy value.
Ben Zobrist, SS, Tampa Bay RaysSunday 5/11, 2:32 PM CT
Ben Zobrist could come off the DL on Monday, just hours after getting pins removed from his fractured left thumb, MLB.com reports. "The doctor told me I can play the same day," Zobrist says. "When they take the pins out, it's not going to take but an hour or two, and it won't feel any different than it did before." The shortstop has been rehabbing a High-A Vero Beach.

Our View: Zobrist will be behind Jason Bartlett at shortstop, and he'll also be able to serve as a backup at second and this base. His fantasy value is minimal.
John Lackey, P, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 5/11, 2:28 PM CT
John Lackey is scheduled to come off the DL and start for the Angels on Wednesday, May 14 against the White Sox, MLB.com confirms. He is on the DL due to a right triceps strain.

Our View: We figured that one more confirmation newsbreaker couldn't hurt. Lackey threw 88 pitches in his latest rehab stint, so he should be near full strength.
Kei Igawa, P, New York YankeesSunday 5/11, 1:54 PM CT
Due to Sunday's rainout, the Yankees may be able to skip Kei Igawa's next scheduled start. The problem is that Ian Kennedy was supposed to work a Triple-A on Sunday, but his outing was also washed away, Newsday explains. At the moment, Igawa is still listed as a starter for either Thursday or Friday.

Our View: Fantasy owners should be ignoring Igawa after his awful start on Friday. It sounds like the Yankees can't wait to get rid of him.
Fausto Carmona, P, Cleveland IndiansSunday 5/11, 1:47 PM CT
Fausto Carmona and A.J. Burnett will need to wait a day for their duel. The Indians and Blue Jays were rained out on Sunday, and the clubs will play a double-header on Monday, the Cleveland Plain Dealer confirms.

Our View: Many fantasy leaguers won't need to make any adjustments here. This is mainly an FYI for leagues with daily transactions.
Bartolo Colon, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 5/11, 1:43 PM CT
Bartolo Colon worked three innings on Saturday night. It was his first start since coming off the minor league DL due to a strained oblique. Colon threw 49 pitches in the start, and the Sox hope he can work up to 76 pitches in his next outing, the Providence Journal reports.

Our View: Colon missed more than a month due to the ailment, which probably didn't earn him much love with the front office. He remains worth watching, but we're not expecting much help for fantasy leagues.
Kazuo Fukumori, P, Texas RangersSunday 5/11, 1:23 PM CT
Kazuo Fukumori has cleared waivers and is no longer on the 40-man roster, the Dallas Morning News reports. He is at Triple-A Oklahoma.

Our View: So much for any thoughts of Fukumori helping out at the back of the Rangers bullpen, huh?
Kevin Millwood, P, Texas RangersSunday 5/11, 1:19 PM CT
The Rangers placed Kevin Millwood on the 15-day DL on Sunday due to a strained right groin, the Dallas Morning News reports. He suffered the injury on Saturday.

Our View: This is worse than your average injury news because a upper-leg injury (hamstring) led to Millwood's bad struggles in 2007. We hope this ailment is mild and won't have such a lasting effect, but it's hard not to make a correlation.
Brian Roberts, 2B, Baltimore OriolesSunday 5/11, 12:37 PM CT
Infielder Luis Hernandez will start in place of Brian Roberts on Sunday against the Royals. Roberts is day-to-day due to a sore left foot, the Baltimore Sun reports.

Our View: The Orioles are off on Monday, which makes this a pretty obvious decision for the club. Roberts should be back on Tuesday.
Alex Cintron, SS, Baltimore OriolesSunday 5/11, 12:06 PM CT
The Orioles called up Alex Cintron on Sunday, the Baltimore Sun confirms. He was batting .288 over 16 games at Triple-A Norfolk.

Our View: Cintron will battle Freddy Bynum for the right to be the everyday shortstop. We'll let you know if the Orioles name a top guy, as AL-only leaguers will want to know.
Chris Denorfia, CF, Oakland AthleticsSunday 5/11, 12:00 PM CT
The A's placed Chris Denorfia on the 15-day DL on Sunday due to tightness in his lower back, the Ticker confirms. The move is retroactive to May 7.

Our View: Fantasy owners shouldn't miss him too much.
Cliff Floyd, DH, Tampa Bay RaysSunday 5/11, 11:58 AM CT
Cliff Floyd will start at DH on Sunday against the Angels. It will be his first start since April 6. He had been out due to a torn meniscus in his right knee.

Our View: We expect to see Cliffy play regularly against right-handed pitchers.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, Kansas City RoyalsSunday 5/11, 11:50 AM CT
Mike Jacobs is not listed in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals. It will be the fourth straight game he has missed due to a strained left quad. Wes Helms is starting in his place.

Our View: Jacobs remains day-to-day, and fantasy owners can generally plan on him coming back and playing most of the upcoming week.
Ryan Raburn, 2B, Detroit TigersSunday 5/11, 11:43 AM CT
Ryan Raburn will start in left field on Sunday against the Yankees. He started in center on Saturday and went 2-for-2 before being replaced by Curtis Granderson.

Our View: The Tigers are just giving the backup a few at-bats and resting some of their regulars. Raburn is a decent hitter, but he doesn't have a regular gig.
Jason Tyner, LF, Chicago White SoxSunday 5/11, 11:40 AM CT
The Indians added outfielder Jason Tyner to their roster on Sunday, the AP confirms.

Our View: We don't envision Tyner getting much playing time. Fantasy owners should avoid him.
Ramon Hernandez, C, Baltimore OriolesSunday 5/11, 10:17 AM CT
Ramon Hernandez did not play on Saturday due to soreness in his left wrist, the Baltimore Sun reports. Guillermo Quiroz started in his place. Hernandez is day-to-day.

Our View: Don't be too surprised if Hernandez also sits on Sunday, as the Orioles are off on Monday and that would provide a nice three-day rest.
Curt Schilling, P, Boston Red SoxSunday 5/11, 10:14 AM CT
Curt Schilling threw "40-ish" tosses from 60 feet on Saturday. He could extend his range on Monday. "There's been no period of time during this where there's a setup goal and potentially fail," Schilling tells the Boston Globe. "We're just taking it as it comes." He is trying to rehab a damaged right shoulder.

Our View: Curt still has a long ways to go in his comeback attempt. We're keeping our expectations very low.
Julio Lugo, SS, Boston Red SoxSunday 5/11, 10:08 AM CT
Julio Lugo did not play on Saturday due to a mild concussion. He was kicked in the head during Friday's win over the Twins and felt dizzy on Saturday morning, the Boston Globe reports. Jed Lowrie started in his place.

Our View: Lugo is presumably day-to-day at this point, and we'll update his status when more is known.
Joe Borowski, P, Cleveland IndiansSunday 5/11, 10:03 AM CT
Joe Borowski threw another bullpen session on Saturday, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. The closer will work two more sessions over the coming four days, then follow up with a simulated game and a rehab assignment. Borowski is on the DL due to a strained right triceps.

Our View: The Indians believe he'll be back before the end of the month, and Borowski is expected to regain his closer's role. Whether or not he'll be effective and keep the job is another matter.
Jake Westbrook, P, Cleveland IndiansSunday 5/11, 9:57 AM CT
Jake Westbrook threw a bullpen session on Saturday, and manager Eric Wedge thinks the starting pitcher could return before the end of the month, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Westbrook is out due to a left intercostal strain.

Our View: Fantasy owners need to show some patience. Westbrook isn't a power pitcher, and he could struggle if the Indians try to rush him at all. We'll continue to monitor his status.
Tom Mastny, P, Cleveland IndiansSunday 5/11, 9:51 AM CT
Tom Mastny was sent back to Triple-A Buffalo following Saturday's win over the Blue Jays.

Our View: Mastny had made just two appearances since being called up on April 15, so this move shouldn't hurt any fantasy teams.
Jim Thome, DH, Chicago White SoxSunday 5/11, 9:48 AM CT
Jim Thome sat out on Saturday, but he will start the next five games before sitting in the May 16-18 series in San Francisco, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Our View: Rumors of Thome's demise are swirling, but we're not quite ready to give up on the burly DH. This might be a good week to bench him in mixed leagues, though.
Jose Guillen, RF, Kansas City RoyalsSunday 5/11, 9:28 AM CT
Jose Guillen played on Saturday despite a sore right hip flexor. He was forced to DH, though. "It is legitimate soreness, but he wants to play," manager Trey Hillman informs the Kansas City Star. Guillen went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Our View: Maybe Guillen should get injured more often. He suffered two ailments this week and is 6-for-10 over the last three games. Fantasy owners should consider him day-to-day.
Maicer Izturis, SS, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 5/11, 9:19 AM CT
Maicer Izturis is improving and will test his sore back in a rehab game for High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Monday, the Los Angeles Times reports. If all goes well, Izturis could return in the week ahead.

Our View: The Angels will likely toss Maicer right back into the lineup when he is ready, as they are without both Chone Figgins and Howie Kendrick. Fantasy owners can hardly wait to put that .197 back to work.
Howie Kendrick, 2B, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 5/11, 9:12 AM CT
Howie Kendrick is using physical therapy to work on his sore left hamstring. "Hopefully we'll get some good news on him on Monday and see where he is," manager Mike Scioscia tells the Los Angeles Times. Kendrick is on the DL, and he was pulled out of a rehab stint after tweaking his hamstring on Tuesday.

Our View: The Angels don't really have a timetable right now. Kendrick was on track to return in this coming week, but we imagine it will be at least another 7-10 days.
Chone Figgins, 3B, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 5/11, 9:07 AM CT
The Angels placed Chone Figgins on the 15-day DL on Saturday. He hasn't played since May 3 due to a strained right hamstring. "He's making progress. But not enough to where you're going to project him to play any time next week," manager Mike Scioscia explains to the Los Angeles Times.

Our View: The Angels will continue to patch together their infield while Figgins, Maicer Izturis, and Howie Kendrick are out. It's a golden opportunity for Brandon Wood and Sean Rodriguez. We'll update Figgins' status when more is known, but fantasy owners should obviously bench him for the week ahead.
Francisco Liriano, P, Minnesota TwinsSunday 5/11, 9:01 AM CT
Francisco Liriano worked six innings for Triple-A Rochester on Saturday. He allowed five hits and two runs, walked two, and struck out five. Liriano also added a wild pitch, and he threw 58 of his 91 pitches for strikes.

Our View: We like the improved strikeout-to-walk ratio, but the pitch count numbers suggest Liriano is still having some control issues. The Twins don't have a timetable for his return.
Brendan Harris, SS, Minnesota TwinsSunday 5/11, 8:55 AM CT
Brendan Harris did not play on Saturday due to a sore right hamstring, and he could sit on Sunday as well. Manager Ron Gardenhire tells the Minneapolis Star Tribune that the second baseman is "iffy." Matt Tolbert started on Saturday.

Our View: Fantasy owners looking to set their lineups for the week ahead can probably bet on Harris playing. It doesn't sound like the injury is serious.
Alexi Casilla, 2B, Minnesota TwinsSunday 5/11, 8:48 AM CT
The Twins have brought up Alexi Casilla from Triple-A to replace the injured Nick Punto, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Our View: Casilla was hitting a robust .219 at Rochester, but he has shown decent patience (18 walks) and still has a lot of speed. He probably won't get enough at-bats while with the Twins to help fantasy teams.
Wilson Betemit, 1B, Chicago White SoxSunday 5/11, 8:44 AM CT
Wilson Betemit was placed on the DL following Saturday's game. He strained his hamstring while legging out a double. Alberto Gonzalez was called up from Triple-A to take his roster spot, the New York Post confirms.

Our View: Look for Morgan Ensberg to benefit in the very short term, as the Yanks are without both Betemit and Alex Rodriguez. The superstar isn't too far away from returning, though.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, Kansas City RoyalsSunday 5/11, 8:40 AM CT
Mike Jacobs missed his third straight start on Saturday due to a strained left quad. "I don't want to run him out there and have him go backward," manager Fredi Gonzalez informs the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Jacobs ran before the game and is feeling better. He remains day-to-day.

Our View: There's a decent chance that Jacobs will return on Sunday, but, at the least, fantasy owners can expect the first baseman to play in the week ahead.
Kei Igawa, P, New York YankeesSunday 5/11, 8:38 AM CT
Kei Igawa is still in line to start on Wednesday against the Rays. "I don't have news that someone else is going to start," manager Joe Girardi tells the New York Post. "That's our plan." Igawa was rocked for 11 hits and six runs over three innings on Friday.

Our View: We imagine the Yankees front office is trying to figure out a scenario in which Igawa can be skipped or replaced. How much will it cost Mr. Steinbrenner to make it rain on Sunday?
Kiko Calero, P, Texas RangersSunday 5/11, 8:24 AM CT
Kiko Calero threw one inning of relief for Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday. It was his first rehab appearance as he comes back from a torn right rotator cuff. Calero is eligible to rejoin the A's on May 27, the Oakland Tribune confirms.

Our View: We don't expect Calero to have much fantasy value when he comes back. Huston Street, Santiago Casilla, Alan Embree, and Joey Devine are doing just fine for the A's bullpen.
Jose Vidro, DH, Seattle MarinersSunday 5/11, 8:20 AM CT
Jose Vidro was unable to play on Saturday night due to a sore back, the Seattle Times reports.

Our View: Vidro's playing time has been rare since Jeff Clement's promotion, but he had a chance to start on Saturday. All in all, his fantasy value looks awful right now. Vidro is worth holding on benches in AL-only leagues, barely.
Jose Lopez, 2B, Seattle MarinersSunday 5/11, 8:13 AM CT
The Mariners moved Jose Lopez from second to fifth in the batting order on Saturday. "I thought we needed some more punch in the middle of the lineup, that's why I moved Lopez down," manager John McLaren tells the Seattle Times.

Our View: Punch? Lopez's career slugging percentage is .380, and he's swatted two homers this year. The second baseman was doing a nice job in the two hole, and we can only hope this move doesn't get him off track.
Scott Kazmir, P, Tampa Bay RaysSunday 5/11, 8:03 AM CT
Scott Kazmir opened Saturday's start throwing in the high-80s, but he was hitting 92 and 93 by the sixth inning. "It was getting more and more comfortable. It just felt like it wasn't completely there yet," he tells the Tampa Tribune. Manager Joe Maddon adds, "I thought as the game got a little bit deeper, he was thinking less about that and more about just letting it go," Kazmir missed the first month-plus of the season due to a strained left elbow

Our View: Kazmir showed a lot of maturity by silencing the Angels on Saturday despite not whipping the ball in the mid-90s. That's an excellent sign for the ace's future.
Hank Blalock, 3B, Texas RangersSunday 5/11, 7:51 AM CT
Hank Blalock ran at half-speed and fielded grounders for the second straight day on Saturday. He is on the DL due to a partially torn left hamstring. The Rangers haven't set a timetable for Blalock's return, the Dallas Morning News reports.

Our View: We probably won't have a good feel for Hank until he is going all out and seeing how the hamstring reacts. We expect that he'll go on a rehab assignment before jumping back into major league games.
Luis Mendoza, P, Texas RangersSunday 5/11, 7:43 AM CT
Luis Mendoza threw another 45 pitches in a simulated game on Saturday. He explains that his fastball is coming around as he overcomes right shoulder inflammation. "I wasn't really able to get on top of it because my shoulder was sore," Mendoza tells the Dallas Morning News. "But today it was strong, and it felt good." He will work a bullpen session on Monday before going on a minor league rehab assignment.

Our View: Mendoza could be ready to join the rotation in about 14 days, which would be nice for the Rangers. They also dealing with injuries to Jason Jennings and Brandon McCarthy, and Kevin Millwood hurt his groin on Saturday. Mendoza would give them a much-needed extra option.
Kevin Millwood, P, Texas RangersSunday 5/11, 7:35 AM CT
Kevin Millwood injured his right groin on Saturday night, and he will be re-evaluated on Sunday, the Dallas Morning News reports. The right-hander could end up on the DL, but the Rangers also have the luxury of moving his start back due to next Thursday's off-day.

Our View: We'll let you know when the club has an update. This could be a deal where the Rangers wait it out and see if Millwood can improve throughout the coming week. Leg injuries led to Kevin's struggles in 2007.
Aaron Hill, 2B, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 5/11, 7:23 AM CT
The Blue Jays gave Aaron Hill a day off on Saturday, and Jorge Velandia started in his place. Hill is 13-for-67 (.194) over the last 18 games. "You never want to say you need a day off, but it will be nice just to get my head straight," he tells the Toronto Star.

Our View: The Blue Jays are going to need Hill to pick it up while Vernon Wells is out. We're sure he got that message while sitting on Saturday. Aaron played 160 games in 2007, and we don't expect him to rest very much the rest of the way in 2008.
Alex Rios, RF, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 5/11, 7:14 AM CT
Alex Rios will move from right field to center field while Vernon Wells is out due to a broken left wrist, the Toronto Star confirms.

Our View: Rios should have already had center field eligibility after playing there 22 times last year, but fantasy owners in leagues that require teams to fill all three outfield spots may want to know about this switch anyway.
Carlos Quentin, LF, Chicago White SoxSunday 5/11, 12:45 AM CT
The Chicago White Sox put the 8-4 whooping on the Seattle Mariners this evening, led (in part) by LF Carlos Quentin . Quentin went 3-for-5 with his ninth home run of the season, totaling three RBIs on the evening.

Our View: Quentin has been a bit up and down this season, but the rewards of a night like this show better days may lie ahead.
Adrian Beltre, 3B, Seattle MarinersSunday 5/11, 12:41 AM CT
Seattle suffered the 8-4 loss to the Chicago White Sox, but 3B Adrian Beltre did his best to keep his team in the mix. Beltre went 2-for-4 at the plate, hitting his seventh homer of the season good for three RBIs and two runs scored on the night.

Our View: Beltre had hit a slump coming in, going 0-for-13 in the four games before the Mariners welcomed Chicago. This may get him back on the path to glory.
Ichiro Suzuki, RF, Seattle MarinersSunday 5/11, 12:37 AM CT
Seattle CF Ichiro Suzuki continues to ravage the base paths, tonight going 1-for-4 at the plate with this sixth double of the season, also adding his 15th stolen base.

Our View: Suzuki has stolen nine of his total 15 base in the month of May, going 14-for-38 along the way.
Jake Arrieta, P, Baltimore OriolesSunday 5/11, 12:25 AM CT
Jake Arrieta won his third game of the season for High-A Frederick after allowing two runs on five hits in six innings. He struck out eight batters.

Our View: The fifth-round pick from 2007 was a proven college pitcher at TCU, so his success in the low minors should be no big surprise. Still, he deserves some props for a 2.01 ERA and 53/22 K/BB ratio in 44.2 innings.
Lance Broadway, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 5/11, 12:18 AM CT
Lance Broadway threw a complete game in the first game of Triple-A Charlotte’s doubleheader vs. Toledo on Saturday. He allowed three hits, one run and struck out three.

Our View: Broadway continues to roll in Triple-A, posting an ERA of 1.13 through seven starts. It’s too bad for Broadway that Chicago’s starting rotation has been so solid this season.
