Brandon Moss, RF, Boston Red SoxSaturday 5/3, 11:46 PM CT
Manager Terry Francona stated that Brandon Moss was sent to the hospital on Saturday night to have his appendix removed, according to the AP. Before the game against the Rays, Moss felt ill and was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for an emergency appendectomy. He got out of successful surgery just after 11 p.m. EDT. Francona said, "He was feeling ill and the medical team felt that rather than just an abdominal flu, there was a possibility of appendicitis. We took him over there right before the game, which is probably a good idea. We were trying to be safe rather than sorry, and he’s having it removed."

Our View: Moss generated two homers and three RBI over six games with the Red Sox this season. We will update his health status when more details are known.
Kason Gabbard, P, Texas RangersSaturday 5/3, 11:38 PM CT
Kason Gabbard gave up one run in four innings on Saturday in a rehab start with Double-A Frisco, according to the AP. Gabbard threw just 30 pitches in the first three innings but needed 35 more to finish the fourth, when he walked three batters and forced in a run. Gabbard said he became a “little fatigued” in his final inning. He did register six strikeouts and said, "I was happy with my outing."

Our View: Gabbard was placed on the 15-day DL last month because of a sore lower back. The Rangers have indicated that he could return to their rotation on Thursday (May 8) in Seattle.
Brad Hawpe, RF, Colorado RockiesSaturday 5/3, 11:31 PM CT
Brad Hawpe went 3-for-5 and collected four RBI in Saturday's 12-7 loss to the Dodgers. One of his hits went for a homer, his second of the season.

Our View: Hawpe is hitting .260 over 28 games, with 12 RBI. He has struck out 22 times over 96 at-bats, but has drawn 22 walks.
Jorge De La Rosa, P, Colorado RockiesSaturday 5/3, 11:25 PM CT
Jorge De La Rosa made his first start of 2008 on Saturday night against the Dodgers, and was lit up for nine runs on nine hits over a mere four innings, with three walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: De La Rosa found his way into the rotation as Franklin Morales was sent down and Kip Wells is out of action on the DL, but could be on the bubble to get another start following tonight's performance. De La Rosa held a 5.82 ERA and 1.64 WHIP over 130 innings in 2007.
James Loney, 1B, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 5/3, 11:19 PM CT
James Loney went 2-for-5 and racked up six RBI in Saturday's 12-7 win over Colorado. He hit a three-run homer and a double.

Our View: Loney is hitting .276 and has recorded 25 RBI over 30 games this season. His fantasy stock will continue to rise.
Frank Thomas, DH, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 5/3, 11:14 PM CT
Frank Thomas went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts in Saturday's 6-3 loss to Texas.

Our View: Thomas is 8-for-34 (.235) with no homers and seven RBI over 10 games with Oakland so far.
David Murphy, RF, Texas RangersSaturday 5/3, 11:08 PM CT
David Murphy went 1-for-4 and belted a three-run homer in Saturday's 6-3 win over Oakland.

Our View: Murphy has fared well this season as he is hitting .278 over 115 at-bats, with three homers, 18 RBI, and 16 runs. He also has three stolen bases.
C.C. Sabathia, P, Cleveland IndiansSaturday 5/3, 10:58 PM CT
C.C. Sabathia fell to 1-5 in Saturday's 4-2 loss to Kansas City. He surrendered four runs on 10 hits over 6.1 innings, with one walk and four strikeouts.

Our View: He held a 7.88 ERA and 1.78 WHIP heading into today's game, and his fifth loss in seven starts has fantasy owners worried.
Jose Guillen, RF, Kansas City RoyalsSaturday 5/3, 10:53 PM CT
Jose Guillen had a tough day at the plate in Saturday's 4-2 win over Cleveland, as he went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts, while leaving four men on base.

Our View: His batting average now stands at .168, and he only contributed 15 RBI over 29 games played. Guillen, who is making $12 million in 2008, only generated four hits over his last six games.
Mike Jacobs, 1B, Florida MarlinsSaturday 5/3, 10:45 PM CT
Mike Jacobs went 1-for-4 with two RBI, and crushed his eighth homer of the season in Saturday's 7-2 loss to San Diego.

Our View: He is only hitting .247 but racked up 19 RBI and 14 runs over 26 games. His sprained middle finger is seemingly fine, evidenced by tonight's performance.
Jake Peavy, P, San Diego PadresSaturday 5/3, 10:42 PM CT
Jake Peavy earned his fourth win of the season on Saturday, as San Diego topped Florida 7-2. Peavy only allowed two runs on five hits over 5.2 innings, with two walks and eight strikeouts.

Our View: Peavy is now 4-2 with a 2.22 ERA over 48.2 innings, with 46 strikeouts. He has now evened his career mark against the Marlins to 4-4.
Bengie Molina, C, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 5/3, 10:36 PM CT
Bengie Molina went 3-for-5 with one RBI in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Phillies.

Our View: Molina raised his average to .299 and tallied 19 RBI over 24 games played. He remains an under-rated fantasy performer at the position.
Chase Utley, 2B, Philadelphia PhilliesSaturday 5/3, 10:33 PM CT
Chase Utley went 2-for-4 and recorded his MLB leading 13th home run of the season in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Giants.

Our View: Utley is hitting .369 with 26 RBI and 28 runs scored over 31 games as well. Utley continues to play up to high expectations of being the top rated second baseman for 2008.
David Ortiz, DH, Boston Red SoxSaturday 5/3, 10:27 PM CT
David Ortiz went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs in Saturday's 12-4 rout over Tampa Bay.

Our View: Ortiz is only hitting .216 but has five homers with 24 RBI and 19 runs scored over 29 games. Ortiz has racked up eight hits over his last four games, and his average should continue to rise.
James Shields, P, Tampa Bay RaysSaturday 5/3, 10:23 PM CT
James Shields was rocked for seven runs on 10 hits over a mere 3.2 innings of work against the Red Sox on Saturday, with three walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: Shields was previously named the AL Player of the Week, and was 3-1 with a 2.54 ERA and solid 1.15 ERA prior to today's nightmarish outing. See if you can lure him away for a bargain price.
Miguel Tejada, SS, Houston AstrosSaturday 5/3, 10:19 PM CT
Miguel Tejada went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run in Saturday's 6-2 win over Milwaukee.

Our View: Tejada is hitting .355 with 25 RBI and 24 runs scored over 31 games. He continues to fit in very well in Houston.
Rickie Weeks, 2B, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 5/3, 10:15 PM CT
Rickie Weeks went 1-for-4 with one RBI and collected his fourth homer of the season in Saturday's 6-2 loss to Houston.

Our View: Weeks is only hitting .197 with nine RBI over 30 games, but has scored 26 runs.
Brandon Phillips, 2B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 5/3, 9:47 PM CT
Brandon Phillips went 1-for-4 and registered the Reds' lone RBI in Saturday's 9-1 loss to Atlanta.

Our View: Phillips isn't having a great season as of yet, but is not hurting fantasy teams with five homers, 15 RBI, five stolen bases, and 16 runs over 30 games, with a .274 average.
Jo-Jo Reyes, P, Atlanta BravesSaturday 5/3, 9:42 PM CT
Jo-Jo Reyes made his first start in the rotation in place of the injured John Smoltz on Saturday against Cincinnati, and he came through with a win, as he only allowed one run on four hits over 5.1 innings, with three walks and five strikeouts.

Our View: Reyes made a blip on the fantasy radar with his strong performance, and he is worth a look if you need help at the position right now. Smoltz may return to the bullpen upon his return from the DL.
Craig Monroe, CF, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 5/3, 9:34 PM CT
Craig Monroe started in center field in place of the injured Carlos Gomez (headache) on Saturday against Detroit, and took advantage of the playing time as he went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer.

Our View: Monroe is a talented player, but his fantasy value will be limited while fighting for playing time in a strong Twins' outfield with Carlos Gomez, Michael Cuddyer, and Delmon Young.
Curtis Granderson, CF, Detroit TigersSaturday 5/3, 9:26 PM CT
Curtis Granderson went 2-for-4 with one RBI and blasted his fourth homer of the season in Saturday's 4-1 loss to Minnesota.

Our View: Granderson is hitting .297 and has scored 12 runs over 10 games this season. He is back on track after going 0-for-9 over his previous two outings.
Brian Bass, P, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 5/3, 9:19 PM CT
Reliever Brian Bass took the hill in place of the injured Scott Baker in the fourth inning against Detroit on Saturday, and held on to nail down a win, as he held the Tigers scoreless over four innings, with only three hits allowed.

Our View: Baker was forced out of action due to his groin ailment. Bass is a reliever, and the team would likely replace Baker with another starter if he is to miss time. Bass held a 4.67 ERA and 1.56 WHIP over 17.1 innings, and doesn't merit fantasy consideration, despite his win today.
Justin Verlander, P, Detroit TigersSaturday 5/3, 9:13 PM CT
Justin Verlander lost his fifth game of the season on Saturday, as Detroit fell to Minnesota 4-1. Verlander surrendered four runs on seven hits over seven innings, with two walks and five strikeouts. Half of the damage came on a two-run homer by Craig Monroe.

Our View: Verlander is now 1-5 for the season with a 6.28 ERA. Keep him on the bench until he redeems himself worthy of your starting lineup.
Andy LaRoche, 3B, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 5/3, 9:05 PM CT
Andy LaRoche hit .318 over six games at Double-A Jacksonville and on Tuesday was moved up to Triple-A Las Vegas, where he was hitting .154 with one home run over four games, according to MLB.com. He was optioned to Las Vegas.

Our View: Blake DeWitt is holding his own as the starting third baseman for the Dodgers, and LaRoche has been sent to Las Vegas instead of coming back to Los Angeles to fight DeWitt for playing time.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersSaturday 5/3, 8:59 PM CT
Manager Ron Washington commented on his plans at catcher, according to MLB.com. Washington noted that he is planning to alternate Gerald Laird and Jarrod Saltalamacchia two games at a time. Laird will catch Sunday against the Athletics and Monday against the Mariners. Saltalamacchia will catch Tuesday and Wednesday, and then it will be back to Laird. Washington added, "I'm just trying to get them back-to-back at-bats. It was a matter of how I was going to do it. I'm trying to figure out how to get them both the most playing time. We've got two good catchers; I need to get two of them in there. We'll just see how it goes. At some point it will take care of itself."

Our View: Saltalamacchia got the call on Saturday, which was his fourth start in the last eight games. Laird is better defensively, but Saltalamacchia has more upside offensively. As expected, the Rangers will cycle them both in a platoon at the position.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 5/3, 8:51 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez will likely miss another start because of the strained left groin that put him on the DL on April 20, according to MLB.com. Manager Cecil Cooper said, "He was going to throw a simulated game today, but we decided not to do it. The doctor said it was probably better if we hold off on it. We're going to wait and see how he is in a couple of days."

Our View: Rodriguez is eligible to come off the DL on Monday. Cooper was hoping he would be able to make a start against the Nationals during the three-game series at Minute Maid Park from Tuesday-Thursday, but now it appears Rodriguez will miss a third turn through the rotation. The Astros will most likely turn to veteran righty Brian Moehler to take Rodriguez's spot in the rotation.
Justin Upton, RF, Arizona DiamondbacksSaturday 5/3, 8:42 PM CT
Justin Upton went 2-for-2 with one RBI and three walks, and scored three runs in Saturday's 10-4 win over the Mets.

Our View: Upton is hitting .346 with five homers, 16 RBI, and 18 runs over 29 games, and his fantasy stock remains on the rise.
Carlos Gomez, CF, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 5/3, 8:15 PM CT
Carlos Gomez sat out Saturday night's game against the Tigers due to a nagging headache after being hit in the head by a throw in Friday's outing, according to MLB.com. Gomez said he did not sleep favorably on Friday night and showed up to the Metrodome with a headache on Saturday. He did not take batting practice and commented that he would spend the game "chilling" in the dugout.

Our View: Scott Ullger said, "We'll have to wait and see about Sunday. If he still has a headache, it might be better to give him Sunday and then he'll have Monday off, too. I'd sure like to have him in the lineup, but we'll let somebody else play Saturday." We will keep you posted on his playing status for Sunday and beyond.
German Duran, 3B, Texas RangersSaturday 5/3, 8:08 PM CT
German Duran is starting at second base against Oakland tonight, according to the Dallas Morning News. Ian Kinsler has been scratched due to a sore hamstring.

Our View: Duran is only 4-for-19 (.211) with no homers or RBI and isn't worth targeting for your fantasy squad. The team also said that Kinsler's injury isn't expected to keep him out of the lineup very long.
Ian Kinsler, 2B, Texas RangersSaturday 5/3, 8:03 PM CT
Ian Kinsler has been scratched for tonight's game due to a sore hamstring, according to the Dallas Morning News. German Duran is covering his spot at second base.

Our View: The Rangers state that Kinsler's hamstring has been bothering him for a day or so, and is not expected to be an injury that will keep him out of the lineup very long.
Mark Reynolds, 3B, Arizona DiamondbacksSaturday 5/3, 7:59 PM CT
Mark Reynolds had a tough day at the plate in Saturday's 10-4 win over the Mets, as he went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts, while leaving seven men on base.

Our View: Reynolds is only hitting .226 over 106 at-bats, with 42 strikeouts, but he should remain in your lineups with seven homers, 24 RBI, 23 runs, and three stolen bases over 28 games.
Brent Lillibridge, SS, Atlanta BravesSaturday 5/3, 7:52 PM CT
Brent Lillibridge has been optioned to Triple-A Richmond, according to the AP. The team needed to free up a roster spot for pitcher Jo-Jo Reyes, and infielder Lillibridge was seen as expendable.

Our View: Lillibridge went 0-for-8 during his brief stint with Atlanta, and held no fantasy value prior to his demotion.
Scott Baker, P, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 5/3, 7:46 PM CT
Scott Baker left Saturday's game against the Tigers after three innings due to an apparent groin injury, according to the AP. Baker yielded just one hit with two strikeouts in three innings, and was replaced by reliever Brian Bass in the fourth.

Our View: Baker's groin ailment has returned, and could potentially land on the DL this time. We will keep you updated on his status.
Jeff Baker, 2B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 5/3, 7:27 PM CT
Jeff Baker returned to the Rockies starting lineup versus the Dodgers on Saturday night. He missed two games to a blood vessel issue. The second baseman is hitting seventh in the order.

Our View: Baker, who played in 14 April games, hit a puny .188 with three runs and three RBI.
Chris Shelton, 1B, Texas RangersSaturday 5/3, 7:23 PM CT
Chris Shelton, who was recently recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma, is starting at first base against the A's on Saturday night and is hitting eighth in the order.

Our View: Shelton, who took Jason Botts' place on the roster, was expected to see playing time against left-handed pitching, however, the A's are starting right-hander Chad Gaudin. Shelton was called up on April 29th, and his current stay with the parent club is his longest big league stint since he was with Detroit in 2006.
Rajai Davis, CF, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 5/3, 7:18 PM CT
Rajai Davis, recently claimed off waivers from the Giants, is starting in center field against the Rangers on Saturday night and is slotted ninth in the order.

Our View: Davis gives the team a third option in center field along with Ryan Sweeney and Chris Denorfia. He offers stolen base potential to AL-only owners but little else. In 19 games between San Francisco and Oakland this year, the speedster has score four run, recorded two RBI, five stolen bases and is hitting .172.
Augie Ojeda, 2B, Arizona DiamondbacksSaturday 5/3, 7:13 PM CT
Augie Ojeda went 3-for-4 and racked up six RBI in Saturday's 10-4 win over the Mets.

Our View: Ojeda filled in for Orlando Hudson, who sat out with a tight hamstring. This was an impressive outing for Ojeda, but Hudson isn't expected to miss time, and Ojeda is not worth claiming.
Carlos Delgado, 1B, New York MetsSaturday 5/3, 7:06 PM CT
Carlos Delgado went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer off Brandon Webb in Saturday's 10-4 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Our View: He is only hitting .212 for the season, but has four homers and 16 RBI over 27 games.
Brandon Webb, P, Arizona DiamondbacksSaturday 5/3, 7:03 PM CT
Brandon Webb improved to 7-0 in Saturday's 10-4 win over the Mets. He allowed four runs on five hits over six innings, with two walks and three strikeouts. Most of the damage came off a three-run homer by Carlos Delgado.

Our View: Webb was named the NL Pitcher of the Month for April, and is off to a strong start in May.
Mike Pelfrey, P, New York MetsSaturday 5/3, 6:58 PM CT
Mike Pelfrey fell to 2-2 for the season in Saturday's 10-4 loss to Arizona. He got rocked for five runs on nine hits over five innings, with four walks and one strikeout.

Our View: Pelfrey has lost two straight starts, while allowing 10 runs over the span. He started off strong as he only allowed two runs over his first two outings of the season, and is worth targeting if you can get him for a low price.
Yadier Molina, C, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 5/3, 6:37 PM CT
Yadier Molina hit his second homer of the season in Saturday's 9-3 loss to the Cubs. He went 2-for-3 overall, with one RBI.

Our View: Molina holds a .289 average with 10 RBI over 26 games. His average is solid, but he still isn't worth starting in standard mixed leagues (unless you start two catchers).
Jorge De La Rosa, P, Colorado RockiesSaturday 5/3, 6:28 PM CT
Jorge De La Rosa has been activated, according to the AP. The team officially placed Troy Tulowitzki on the DL due to his quad injury as well.

Our View: De La Rosa was brought in as Franklin Morales has been sent down, and Kip Wells is on the DL. De La Rosa was 3-0 with a 1.64 ERA in four starts with Triple-A Omaha, the affiliate of the Royals.
Troy Tulowitzki, SS, Colorado RockiesSaturday 5/3, 6:23 PM CT
Troy Tulowitzki has been officially placed on the DL, according to the AP. The team activated lefty Jorge De La Rosa as well.

Our View: Tulowitzki tore a quadriceps muscle in his left leg Tuesday and could be sidelined until the All-Star break. He was only hitting .152 with one home run over 26 games before going on the shelf.
Kosuke Fukudome, RF, Chicago CubsSaturday 5/3, 6:19 PM CT
Kosuke Fukudome went 3-for-5 with two RBI in Saturday's 9-3 win over the Cardinals.

Our View: Fukudome only has one homer over 112 at-bats, but he has generated 12 RBI and 23 runs over 29 games, while maintaining a .348 batting average. He also has three stolen bases, and has proven to be a quality fantasy performer in the early going.
Mike Fontenot, 2B, Chicago CubsSaturday 5/3, 6:14 PM CT
Mike Fontenot had a big day at the plate in Saturday's 9-3 win over the Cardinals, as he went 1-for-3 with four RBI. His hit was good for a three-run homer.

Our View: Fontenot is capable of solid numbers, like today, but his fantasy value remains limited while stuck behind Mark DeRosa at second base.
Kyle Lohse, P, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 5/3, 6:07 PM CT
Kyle Lohse suffered his first loss of the season on Saturday, as the Cardinals were routed by the Cubs 9-3. Lohse was rocked for eight runs on nine hits over six innings, with two walks and no strikeouts.

Our View: Lohse still has a solid record at 3-1, and held a 2.36 ERA and 1.17 WHIP heading into today's game. You can use today's nightmarish outing to your advantage by trying to lure him away for a low price.
Ted Lilly, P, Chicago CubsSaturday 5/3, 6:00 PM CT
Ted Lilly earned his second win of the season on Saturday, as the Cubs topped the Cardinals 9-3. Lilly allowed three runs on six hits (two homers) over seven innings, with one walk and four strikeouts.

Our View: Lilly is now 2-4 with a 5.97 ERA over 37.2 innings, with 29 strikeouts. That was a solid outing for him against the Cardinals, but he still ranks as a marginal fantasy performer. He held a poor 1.50 WHIP heading into today's contest.
Reggie Willits, LF, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 5/3, 5:52 PM CT
Reggie Willits performed well while handling the DH role in Saturday's 3-1 win over Baltimore, as he went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Our View: The Angels just recalled Willits from Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday. This was a strong outing for him, but his playing time should remain limited.
Francisco Rodriguez, P, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 5/3, 5:48 PM CT
Francisco Rodriguez nailed down his 12th save of the season in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Orioles, as he held the team hitless in the ninth inning, with one strikeout.

Our View: He has not allowed a hit over five straight appearances.
Jon Garland, P, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 5/3, 5:42 PM CT
Jon Garland improved to 4-3 for the season in Saturday's 3-1 win over Baltimore. Garland only allowed one run on three hits over eight innings, with one walk and one strikeout.

Our View: Garland is going to have more strong outings like today, but his strikeout totals are going to remain low, as he only has 10 over 44.1 innings. He carried a poor 1.73 WHIP heading into today's game as well. He is a solid starter for the Angels, but his numbers don't translate well as a fantasy performer.
Luke Scott, LF, Baltimore OriolesSaturday 5/3, 5:35 PM CT
Luke Scott went 1-for-3 and registered the Orioles' lone RBI in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Angels.

Our View: That was his first hit over his last six games, and his first RBI since April 18. He is hitting .286, but has failed to make a strong impact with the Orioles so far.
Daniel Cabrera, P, Baltimore OriolesSaturday 5/3, 5:30 PM CT
Daniel Cabrera was dealt his first loss of the season on Saturday, as the Orioles fell to the Angels 3-1. Cabrera allowed three runs on six hits over 7.1 innings, with two walks and six strikeouts.

Our View: Cabrera is now 2-1 for the season, with a 4.06 ERA. It was a quality start for him today, but received poor run support.
Howie Kendrick, 2B, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 5/3, 5:23 PM CT
Howie Kendrick could be ready for a rehab start, according to the AP. Kendrick, who was placed on the DL on April 18 due to a strained left hamstring, may make a rehab start with Class-A Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday. Manager Mike Sciosca said, "It’s not a matter of him getting at-bats. There’s a lot of stuff, prep stuff, like taking a swing, getting out of the box."

Our View: Kendrick is missing more time than expected, but will be worth the wait when he returns, as he was hitting 18-for-36 (.500) with five doubles and one trible over 10 games before getting hurt.
Denny Bautista, P, Pittsburgh PiratesSaturday 5/3, 5:15 PM CT
Denny Bautista has been placed on the 15-day DL, according to the Detroit News. He has been battling right shoulder tendinitis, which forced him out of Friday's 11-1 loss to the Twins. The Tigers purchased the contract of right-hander Freddy Dolsi from Double-A Erie, to replace Bautista on the roster.

Our View: Bautista got off to a strong start this season, but then struggled a bit, and held a 4.05 ERA and 1.88 WHIP over 13.1 innings before going on the shelf. The Tigers' bullpen cannot catch a break in 2008.
Josh Hamilton, CF, Texas RangersSaturday 5/3, 4:54 PM CT
Josh Hamilton has been named the AL Player of the Month for April, according to the AP. Hamilton hit .330 (38-for-115) with six homers and a major league-leading 32 RBI in the season’s first month. It is the first career Player of the Month award for Hamilton, who was the first overall pick of the 1999 draft.

Our View: Hamilton is on pace for 172 RBI, and is bound to cool off and come back down to earth, meaning his fantasy (trade) value is at its peak.
Cliff Lee, P, Cleveland IndiansSaturday 5/3, 4:45 PM CT
Cliff Lee has been named the AL Pitcher of the Month for April, according to the AP. Lee won each of his five starts to earn the first monthly honor of his career. In 37.2 innings, Lee allowed just one home run, 19 hits, four earned runs and two walks. He struck out 32 batters and had an ERA of 0.96 and a WHIP of 0.56.

Our View: In his best outing of the month, Lee hurled a shutout against the Royals on April 24. He is off to a tremendous start for a guy who was not guaranteed a spot in the Indians' rotation through spring training.
Carlos Quentin, LF, Chicago White SoxSaturday 5/3, 4:26 PM CT
Carlos Quentin blasted his eighth homer of the season in Saturday's 5-2 loss to Toronto. He went 1-for-3 overall, with one RBI.

Our View: Quentin is proving to be a mid-to-late round fantasy steal as he is hitting .289 over 27 games, with the aforementioned eighth homers and 22 RBI.
Jon Lieber, P, Chicago CubsSaturday 5/3, 4:20 PM CT
Rich Hill has been optioned to the minors, and Jon Lieber is going to fill his spot in the rotation, according to MLB.com. Lieber will make his first start on Wednesday versus the Reds.

Our View: Lieber has pitched well over 19.1 innings this season, as he holds a 1.86 ERA and 1.19 WHIP, with only two walks. He is worth a look if you need help at the position, namely if you are stuck with Hill.
Rich Hill, P, Chicago CubsSaturday 5/3, 4:15 PM CT
Rich Hill has been optioned to the minors, according to MLB.com. Sean Gallagher has been called up to take his spot on the roster.

Our View: Hill held a 4.12 ERA and 1.58 WHIP over 19.2 innings, with 18 walks. He was demoted mainly due to control problems, and Jon Lieber will fill his spot in the rotation, making his first start on Wednesday versus the Reds.
Brandon Webb, P, Arizona DiamondbacksSaturday 5/3, 4:11 PM CT
Brandon Webb has been named the NL Pitcher of the Month for April, according to MLB.com. Webb went 6-0 with a 1.98 ERA in the month to earn the honor.

Our View: Webb also tied for fourth with 41.0 innings pitched in April, while racking up 34 strikeouts. He currently holds a 1.05 WHIP.
Chase Utley, 2B, Philadelphia PhilliesSaturday 5/3, 4:04 PM CT
Chase Utley was named the NL Player of the Month for April, according to the AP. Utley batted .360 (40-for-111) with a major league-leading 11 homers and 23 RBI in the season’s first month.

Our View: Utley tied a franchise record by hitting a home run in five consecutive games from April 17-21. Utley has lived up to high expectations of being the top rated second baseman for 2008 so far.
Cristian Guzman, SS, Washington NationalsSaturday 5/3, 3:59 PM CT
The Washington Nationals scored nine runs today and needed each and every one of them to secure the win over the Pittsburgh Pirates, the bulk of that damage coming off the bat of SS Cristian Guzman . Guzman went 4-for-5, belting his eighth double and third home run of the season to total six RBIs and two runs scored.

Our View: Guzman had been struggling versus Pitt, going just 1-for-8 coming into this game. This was his first home run since April 9th.
Jose Bautista, 3B, Pittsburgh PiratesSaturday 5/3, 3:54 PM CT
Pittsburgh 3B Jose Bautista put the wood on the ball for the Pirates today, but alas it was for naught as his team fell 9-8 in a barnburner against the Washington Nationals. Bautista went 3-for-4 at the plate, hitting his seventh double and fourth homer of the year, totaling three RBIs and two runs scored.
