Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsThursday 1/21, 6:57 PM CT
Eric Chavez feels healthy, and is ready to handle any role that the Athletics give him, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: This is good news, as the six-time Gold Glove winner has undergone five operations since September of 2007, including two microdiscectomy surgeries in different spots in his back. The 32-year-old vet will compete with the newly acquired Kevin Kouzmanoff for playing time at third base.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 12/15, 10:40 AM CT
Eric Chavez currently is experiencing no pain in his twice-repaired back and is set to resume a throwing program in January, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: It's nice to hear that Chavez is feeling well, but based on what has happened throughout his career, it's tough to believe he'll be able to stay healthy. His days as a relevant fantasy performer are long gone by now.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 8/26, 8:35 PM CT
Eric Chavez has started rehabbing from his most recent back surgery, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: His rehab is going well so far, and he is hopeful of returning to the A's next year in spring training. He will try to get into great physical shape, and see what happens from there. He added that he would try to serve as a DH if his back cannot handle working in the infield.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 6/24, 8:03 AM CT
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that third baseman Eric Chavez's season ending surgery went well and he should be ready to start spring training in 2010.

Our View: This is Chavez's second surgery to repair a herniated disk in his back. His season is obviously over, but the procedure likely saved his career.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 6/23, 8:37 PM CT
Eric Chavez underwent season-ending back surgery Tuesday, according to the Associated Press. This marks his second back surgery, and is the same microdiscectomy surgery but in a different spot.

Our View: Chavez hopes the surgery will allow him to resume his career. The A's also hope that he will be recovered in time for spring training next season.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsSunday 6/14, 2:20 PM CT
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Eric Chavez will undergo a second microdiscectomy operation for a different herniated disc in his back. The surgery would likely leave his back too unstable to continue playing baseball.

Our View: Chavez has not held much fantasy value since his 2006 season due to a variety of injuries. From 2000 to 2005 he appeared to have a promising career in front of him. He is just 31 years old.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 5/19, 2:31 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Eric Chavez has been transferred to the 60-day DL due to a herniated disk, according to TSN.

Our View: Chavez is optimistic of returning to the diamond in a few weeks, but is one more back ailment away from being forced to hang up his cleats. He is only worth holding in the deepest of AL-only leagues at this point.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 5/19, 9:17 AM CT
Eric Chavez has a herniated disk in his back, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. He said, "To say the least, I was really thrown by that information. It is disheartening. It was kind of the worst-case scenario. Hopefully, it is another 10 or 15 years, but I have just got to be careful now. It goes beyond baseball."

Our View: The next time he throws out his back could end his career. He is hoping to rejoin the A's on their next homestand that starts Friday against Arizona, but Chavez will be a very risky fantasy option for the remainder of the season.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsFriday 5/8, 7:27 AM CT
Eric Chavez is slated to hit and throw today, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. He is recovering from inflammation in his right forearm.

Our View: Barring a setback, Chavez could be activated from the DL in about a week when the A's start a three-game series against the Tigers at Comerica Park.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsThursday 5/7, 7:16 AM CT
Eric Chavez indicated that the inflammation in his right forearm has cooled down and he is slated for full activity Friday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Chavez believes he will be ready to return to Oakland's lineup during their upcoming road trip that begins May 14 against the Tigers at Comerica Park.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 5/5, 9:59 AM CT
Eric Chavez said Monday that his recent elbow and forearm discomfort is the result of nerve inflammation, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. An MRI exam showed no elbow damage, so the hope is that there is no impingement that's causing the tingling feeling Chavez occasionally gets when throwing or swinging the bat. He's getting treatment to "free everything up from my neck to my fingers," Chavez said.

Our View: Chavez did some light tossing Monday and he will do more today if he feels okay. He thinks he'll be good to go once the inflammation subsides.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 5/2, 7:54 PM CT
Eric Chavez's MRI on his strained right forearm revealed no structural damage, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Chavez is first eligible to come off the DL May 10, but the club will use caution and won't rush him back to the diamond too soon.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsFriday 5/1, 7:09 AM CT
The San Francisco Chronicle indicates that Eric Chavez is a strong candidate to land on the DL with his strained right forearm after being scratched from Thursday's lineup.

Our View: If Chavez goes on the DL today, he would be the third A's infielder to be placed on the list in three days. Either Cliff Pennington or Gregorio Petit would be recalled from Triple-A to provide depth on the roster.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 4/29, 6:25 PM CT
Eric Chavez will start at first base on Wednesday in place of Jason Giambi (sore hamstring), according to the San Francisco Chronicle. He is still two or three days away from being able to start at third base due to a sore elbow.

Our View: Giambi is not expected to miss an extended period of time, so it seems unlikely that Chavez will get enough games in to be first base eligible. However, it may be a moot point as he has been awful with the bat this season.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 4/29, 10:49 AM CT
Third baseman Eric Chavez (elbow) believes he is two or three days away from playing, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Our View: The A's are running low on infielders. Jack Hannahan and Bobby Crosby should continue to see action at the hot corner until Chavez can return to the field.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 4/27, 7:39 AM CT
Eric Chavez is considered day-to-day after straining his right elbow Friday night, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Chavez was on the shelf Saturday and Sunday, and is not confident he will return to the diamond Tuesday against the Rangers. He will test the elbow prior to the game, and if he is still ailing, he will likely receive further evaluation.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsSunday 4/26, 7:41 PM CT
According to the San Fransisco Chronicle, Eric Chavez was held out of the lineup on Sunday due to an elbow strain he suffered in Saturday's contest.

Our View: Chavez is having a miserable year and these elbow problems are becoming increasingly detrimental to his season. He's struggling to throw the ball across the field and without his defense is no longer a Major League caliber player. He may be done soon.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsThursday 4/23, 7:21 AM CT
Eric Chavez was not in the lineup Wednesday as he is not going to start in any day games followed by night games early in the season until his surgically repaired shoulder returns to full strength, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: He should return for Friday's home game against the Rays. Chavez should remain stashed in AL-only leagues, but is not worth employing right now with just three hits over his first 28 at-bats of the season.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsSunday 4/19, 11:25 AM CT
Eric Chavez, who's been nursing a sore neck and shoulder, felt good in batting practice on Saturday and this morning and will start at third base for Oakland in the team's day game against Toronto on Sunday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Feel free to re-insert Chavez back into your lineup if you must, although he's done little this year, even when healthy, to merit a spot for your fantasy squad.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 4/18, 7:12 AM CT
Eric Chavez is still nursing his stiff and sore neck and shoulder and does not expect to return to the diamond until Sunday at the earliest, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. He also noted that a Monday return is more likely.

Our View: The A's are playing the Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre through the weekend, who play on an artificial surface. It makes more sense for him to return Monday when the club starts a series against the Yankees at their new stadium, which has a natural surface.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 4/15, 7:22 AM CT
Eric Chavez was sent for an MRI Tuesday on his tender surgically repaired shoulder, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The ailment revealed little more than tendinitis and Chavez said, "The shoulder is still structurally fine. Everything looks intact, and that is really good news. They are going to sneak away as many games as they can right now, try to calm me down."

Our View: Chavez hopes to return to the diamond by Saturday. The A's start a three-game set against the Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre on Friday, and it looks like Chavez will return at some point in that series.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 4/14, 12:44 PM CT
The San Fransisco Chronicle reports that Eric Chavez is expected to be out until Friday with the stiffness in his neck and shoulders.

Our View: This is more of a precautionary move than anything, utilizing the off day on Thursday to give Chavez an extra couple days of rest. When Chavez is missing any games it is cause for concern, however.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 4/13, 8:12 PM CT
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Eric Chavez will sit out Monday's game with stiffness in his neck and shoulder resulting from a dive back into first base on Friday. Chavez says the injury is unrelated to his offseason shoulder surgery and is not a major problem. However, he is likely to miss Tuesday's game as well.

Our View: Chavez is as fragile as a china doll and an injury could pop up at any given moment. He is off to a slow start and is a completely unreliable fantasy option.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 4/6, 7:46 PM CT
Eric Chavez will start at third base and hit sixth for Oakland on opening day, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Chavez has been incredibly efficient at landing on the DL over the past few seasons. We don't expect anything different this season. In deep leagues, he may be worth a flier, but don't expect a whole lot of at-bats from him this year.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 4/4, 11:06 PM CT
Eric Chavez started at third base and cracked his second home run of the spring in Oakland's 3-2 win over the Giants on Saturday. It was his only hit in two at-bats as he also drew a walk.

Our View: Recent reports out of Oakland indicate that Chavez has shown some impressive power in his hitting sessions of late. He appears to be ready for opening day, but expecting him to reach 500 at-bats is being very optimistic. He's worth a flier in AL-only formats, but be sure you don't ever find yourself depending on him.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsFriday 4/3, 7:21 AM CT
Manager Bob Geren stated that Eric Chavez took another step forward in his rehab from shoulder surgery, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. He homered off the Giants' Tim Lincecum Thursday, and Geren said, "His bat speed is back. He is doing some things in batting practice that he used to do two or three years ago. It is quite a show of power."

Our View: Chavez has already passed the tests of making throws from third and playing back-to-back days. He will remain an injury risk, but the former All-Star is still worth consideration as a flier for AL-only leagues.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsThursday 4/2, 11:45 PM CT
Eric Chavez bashed his first home run of the spring Thursday off none other than Tim Lincecum of the Giants.

Our View: The 31-year-old Chavez insists he is completely rehabbed from shoulder surgery. If so, he could be a real sleeper in deep mixed leagues and all AL-only leagues.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 3/31, 7:28 AM CT
Eric Chavez, who has been rehabbing from shoulder surgery, says he is ready for opening day, according to the Associated Press. Chavez registered a double and a walk in three plate appearances against the Dodgers Monday.

Our View: Chavez is worth consideration as a flier for AL-only leagues, and should be drafted as a backup to be safe. He is only 3-for-17 this spring.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 3/30, 7:06 PM CT
Eric Chavez was 1-for-2 with a walk, a double, and two runs scored as the A's beat the Dodgers 9-5 on Monday. The third baseman is rehabbing from shoulder surgery.

Our View: The A's would like for him to be ready for opening day, but he may be pushing it at this point. He has not seen much work this spring and he will have to avoid any setbacks if he is to be on the lineup card for the first game. Regardless, Chavez should not be selected without ample insurance at the hot corner.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 3/30, 7:31 AM CT
Eric Chavez, who is rehabbing from shoulder surgery, made the first of scheduled back-to-back starts at third base, and is slated for three at-bats today against Texas, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Chavez is hopeful of being ready for opening day, but will remain an injury risk, meaning he should be left for AL-only leagues as a flier.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 3/24, 8:14 PM CT
Third baseman Eric Chavez fielded his spot in a minor league game on Tuesday, and he may move up to major league action on Friday, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Chavez is coming off right shoulder surgery and has had to take it slow this spring.

Our View: Chavez is not guaranteed of being ready on Opening Day, and he remains a very risky bet to stay healthy this season. AL-only owners who grab him are playing with fire.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsSunday 3/22, 9:17 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Eric Chavez (shoulder) took batting practice on Sunday, and attempted to swing at full strength. He has yet to play third base this spring and he seems doubtful to be ready by opening day.

Our View: Chavez has been nothing but hurt for the better part of the past two seasons. In 2006, his last full season, he hit just .241 and was not a very effective fantasy option. We'd love to see him come back and make an impact, but it still seems very optimistic.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 3/21, 7:35 AM CT
Eric Chavez, who is rehabbing from a surgically repaired shoulder, will increase the intensity in his workout today, according to the SF Chronicle. That includes performing a simulated swinging motion.

Our View: This is encouraging, but he is still uncertain to be ready for opening day. Leave him as a flier for AL-only leagues.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 3/18, 7:29 AM CT
Eric Chavez noted that he hopes to play in a game in one week, according to the SF Chronicle. He is rehabbing from a surgically repaired shoulder.

Our View: Chavez has only played in 113 games over the last two seasons, and maintains a .242 batting average over the last three. He should only be targeted as a late-round flier for AL-only leagues.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsFriday 3/13, 10:21 AM CT
Eric Chavez is apparently ahead of schedule and has been testing out his surgically repaired shoulder during fielding drills, according to the SF Chronicle. Chavez didn't push it too hard, but the treatment he's been given seems to be working so far.

Our View: Chavez has had some decent fantasy seasons, but never really became what people thought he would. In a career riddled with injuries and inconsistencies, he has spurned many a fantasy owner. If he does eventually get a clean bill of health this year he could have some value, especially in AL-only leagues.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsThursday 3/12, 7:29 AM CT
Eric Chavez received treatment Wednesday for discomfort in his surgically repaired right shoulder, according to the SF Chronicle. Manager Bob Geren said, "He looked and felt a lot better."

Our View: Chavez is still capable of solid production when healthy, but should only be considered as a late-round flier, due to his injury and poor track record with durability.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 3/10, 3:15 PM CT
Eric Chavez has suffered a setback in his shoulder rehab, but remains optimistic he can be ready to play for opening day, according to the Associated Press. Chavez stopped baseball activities Monday and he said, "The big thing is getting pain free and then kind of starting over slow. Take five swings. How does that feel? Take 10 throws. How does that feel? We have to start from scratch a little bit. I am going to refrain from setting dates, but I am going to try to recover as fast as I can and get back on the field as soon as I can, but meanwhile trying to get the shoulder healthy."

Our View: Chavez may attempt to hit or throw Thursday or Friday, but does not expect to play in a game for awhile, not even as a DH. Bobby Crosby has been getting some work at third in his absence.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 3/9, 12:49 PM CT
Eric Chavez is not making his spring debut at third base today after experiencing some pain in his right shoulder during an at-bat Sunday against Cleveland, according to the Contra Costa Times.

Our View: Chavez will sit out indefinitely until his shoulder calms down. Bobby Crosby is starting at third in his place today.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsSunday 3/8, 7:57 AM CT
Eric Chavez is aiming for Monday to play at third base for the first time of the spring, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: If Chavez proves to be healthy, he will be worth targeting as a late-round value pick for fantasy leagues.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 2/28, 8:45 PM CT
Eric Chavez was 0-for-3 with a strikeout in the Athletic's 1-0 win over the Indians on Saturday.

Our View: Chavez could be a solid player to get in the late rounds since he's coming off an injury-shortened year. If he goes undrafted, he's certainly worth watching on the waiver wire.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsFriday 2/27, 7:40 AM CT
Eric Chavez, who is recovering from shoulder surgery, wene 1-for-3 with a single while working as a DH in Thursday's game against the Angels, according to the SF Chronicle. He is slated to play five innings at third base on Tuesday.

Our View: Chavez is worth consideration as a late-round value pick in fantasy drafts, barring a setback with his shoulder.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsThursday 2/26, 7:24 AM CT
Eric Chavez, who is recovering from shoulder surgery, is expected to work as a DH in today's exhibition game against the Angels, according to the SF Chronicle. He will begin playing in the field Tuesday, working five innings at third.

Our View: Chavez is worth consideration as a late-round value pick in fantasy drafts, barring a setback regarding his shoulder.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 2/25, 11:27 AM CT
Eric Chavez, who is recovering from shoulder surgery, has been cleared to DH, according to the SF Chronicle. He will serve as the DH in Thursday's game against the Angels.

Our View: Chavez is worth a look as a late-round value pick in fantasy drafts, barring a setback in his recovery.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 2/16, 2:53 PM CT
Eric Chavez's recovery from shoulder surgery has been going well and he is feeling fine, but he will not play in the first week of Cactus League games in spring training, according to MLB.com. The next step in his recovery is to make throws across the diamond while taking ground balls.

Our View: He is preparing for the rigors of a six-month season and hopes to play in 140 games. Chavez is worth a look as a late-round value pick in fantasy drafts.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 1/6, 7:34 AM CT
Eric Chavez's most recent shoulder surgery went great, and he intends to roam third base in 2009, according to the SF Chronicle. Chavez said, "I'm doing everything, and it's going well. I'm throwing at the stadium and that's feeling really good, and hitting is no problem at all. The last three weeks, everything's come together. My shoulder feels better than it has in the past 10 years."

Our View: Chavez has won six Gold Gloves at third base. He will be looking for a bounce back campaign next season, and could be a favorable value pick for fantasy leagues.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 11/19, 4:46 PM CT
Eric Chavez underwent shoulder surgery in August and he told MLB.com that he will be ready to go by the time spring training rolls around. "I'm about three months or so out from surgery right now, and rehab has been going really, really well," Chavez said. "I'm not going to start with baseball activities until January or late December, but talking to the doctors and trainers, we all pretty much feel like I'm ahead of schedule. So if I had to guess right now, there'd be almost no doubt; I fully expect to be ready for everything by the time Spring Training starts."

Our View: If the A's can get Chavez to produce like he is capable of, combined with the addition of Matt Holliday, Oakland's lineup will be very scary for opposing pitchers.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 10/20, 7:00 AM CT
Eric Chavez stated that rehab from his most recent shoulder surgery is going well, according to the SF Chronicle. He said, "It was a little slow at first, but the past two weeks, I've made huge progress. By the end of December, I'll be feeling about 100 percent."

Our View: The A's remain optimistic he will be able to return to his post at third base next season, but will remain an injury risk as a fantasy prospect.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 9/30, 4:40 PM CT
Eric Chavez and the Athletics still are holding on to hope that he will be able to return from multiple surgeries this year to play third base next season, according to The Mercury News. "I'm optimistic, given the surgical report, that he'll be back and be good," GM Billy Beane said. "And I know he's really motivated."

Our View: According to the reports that we have received so far, this seems like wishful thinking. At this point, what we are really hoping to hear is that Chavez is healthy and can drive the ball at the plate, even if he ends up having to DH next season. He remains a huge risk heading into 2009.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 8/13, 8:12 PM CT
Oakland trainer Steve Sayles reports third baseman Eric Chavez has emerged from a 2 1/2 hour surgery today and all indications suggest the procedure was a success, according to the San Francisco Gate.

Our View: Chavez had three items repaired while under the knife, including the repair of an anterior labral, a SLAP lesion repair, and having his biceps tendon transposed. This is great news for a player we feared might see a premature end to his career. Sayles said that recovery will take six months and Chavez should be ready to go at that point.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 8/13, 7:30 AM CT
Eric Chavez will undergo season-ending surgery on his right shoulder today, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: Team doctors plan to stabilize the severely frayed labrum in Chavez's right shoulder.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 8/4, 4:36 PM CT
Eric Chavez will have surgery on his right shoulder to repair his labrum and will miss the rest of the season, according to the AP.

Our View: Chavez only played 90 games a year ago and just 23 this season. He has played in under 140 games four out of the past five seasons, and he hasn't hit better than .247 since 2005. His best days are seemingly behind him.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 7/29, 9:57 AM CT
Eric Chavez, dealing with a torn labrum in his shoulder, took batting practice Monday. He said the shoulder didn't bother him much while hitting, but Chavez is less encouraged about throwing, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "He looked good," hitting coach Ty Van Burkleo said of Chavez's batting practice. "It's his first time hitting live on the field and seeing the ball moving at him, and it went well."

Our View: Chavez said last week that his shoulder is so damaged that he doesn't believe surgery would fix the problem and that he could finish his career at first. The A's have not established a timetable for his return.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsSunday 7/27, 10:22 AM CT
Eric Chavez described his labrum in his throwing shoulder as "shredded" after a poor throwing session Saturday, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: The damage in his right shoulder is more extensive than previously believed. The labrum is so severely torn that it cannot be repaired, and his days of playing third base can be over. He noted that his career is at a crossroads, and may consider finishing his career at first base.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 7/26, 3:39 PM CT
Oakland third baseman Eric Chavez continues to work towards health, entering a new throwing program designed to encourage slow-but-progressive muscle build and flexibility in his inflamed right shoulder, according to MLB.com.

Our View: When talking about the shoulder that has kept him on the disabled list since July 2 -- his second lengthy injury stint of the season - Chavez expressed a sense of uncertainty. On Saturday head athletic trainer Stephen Sayles offered some answers, putting Chavez into this new program with hopes of getting him back in positive spirits. It was the 30-year-old Chavez's second consecutive day of throwing, and on Saturday he threw 25 balls from 60 feet, a distance Sayles hopes will expand during the next couple of weeks. Throwing, however, is what aggravates Chavez's shoulder the most. All is well and good with rehab plans, but what A's fans really want to know is if they will see their favorite third baseman back at the hot corner by season's end. This is the same question fantasy owners want answered, but reading the report leaves little to be found in terms of progressive news leading to high hopes. Stay tuned.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 7/21, 7:00 PM CT
Eric Chavez will resume baseball activities when the A's return to Oakland on Friday, the AP reports. The third baseman is on the DL due to right shoulder inflammation.

Our View: The report did not guess at when Chavez would hurt himself again, but our bet is on Sunday. Injuries have held him to 23 games and 89 at-bats this season, and we don't have high hopes for Eric when (or if) he gets healthy.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsFriday 7/4, 10:39 AM CT
The MRI on Eric Chavez's right shoulder showed nothing more than inflammation, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. He will rehab the shoulder for two weeks before the team decides what to do.

Our View: It's been a long while since Chavez was a fantasy force, and this continued shoulder aggravation will do nothing to change that.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 7/2, 8:46 PM CT
Eric Chavez has officially been placed on the 15-day DL due to his sore right shoulder, according to the AP. The team recalled infielder Wes Bankston from Triple-A Sacramento as an adjoining move.

Our View: This is his second trip to the DL this season, and he only played in 23 games so far, with a .247 batting average.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 7/2, 12:51 PM CT
MLB.com reports, Eric Chavez will be placed on the 15-day disable list due to his sore right shoulder. Frustrated by his latest injury Chavez said, "I just want to get to the point where I can get out there and know I can be a productive player, and right now I'm not."

Our View: Chavez had surgery on the shoulder in October to remove bone spurs and missed most of the first two months this year. We will keep an eye on this situation as the six-time gold glove winner can't seem to stay healthy.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 7/2, 8:45 AM CT
Eric Chavez, who has not played third base in more than a week and a half, is still not ready to return to the lineup, this according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Asked about his sore right shoulder Tuesday, Chavez said, "I don't know what's going on with it."

Our View: The soreness has not subsided enough for Chavez to play in the field. Chavez had surgery on the shoulder in October to remove bone spurs and missed most of the first two months this year.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 6/30, 10:02 AM CT
Eric Chavez, who is recovering from a sore right shoulder, could return to the Athletics' lineup on Monday, according to the SF Chronicle. Manager Bob Geren said, "He feels that more than likely he'll be ready to play Monday."

Our View: Chavez has missed the last two games and has not started at third base since June 21. He played catch and hit in the batting cage Sunday and indicated that his ailing shoulder is feeling better.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 6/24, 4:57 PM CT
Eric Chavez is hitting .323 with six home runs against tonight's opponent, Jamie Moyer.

Our View: Chavez has played well since returning to the A's, hitting .284 with 12 RBI in 19 games.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsSunday 6/15, 7:10 PM CT
Eric Chavez went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI in Sunday's 5-3 victory against the Giants. All three of his hits were singles.

Our View: That was his third multi-RBI game of June, and he raised his season average to .291.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsThursday 5/29, 10:25 PM CT
Eric Chavez started for the first time all season on Thursday and went 0-for-4 from the DH spot, according to the Associated Press. “I was just a little lethargic. I need to catch up on some sleep,” Chavez said. “I’ll feel better tomorrow I’m assuming.”

Our View: With Frank Thomas on the DL, the A's would love to have Chavez find his stroke the next couple of weeks as he is worked back into a more regular role at third base. Keep an eye on how he progresses, but with the ability to DH he might be in their quite frequently as he finds his game.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsThursday 5/29, 2:33 PM CT
Eric Chavez has been activated from the 60-day DL, according to the AP. The team decided to place Frank Thomas on the 15-day DL due to his right quad injury (inflammation).

Our View: He is expected to play third base every two days, and then serve as DH every third game. He is making an early return, as he wasn't expected to be activated until June 6. Hopefully he can stay healthy, and finally get past his back issues.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsThursday 5/29, 8:49 AM CT
Eric Chavez blasted a homer in his second at-bat at Portland in a rehab start for Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday and went 1-for-4 while playing nine innings at third base, according to the SF Chronicle. His most likely return date to Oakland right now looks like June 6.

Our View: Hopefully he can stay healthy when he comes back, and finally get past his back issues.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 5/27, 10:22 PM CT
Oakland third baseman Eric Chavez is progressing through is rehab assignment in Triple-A Sacramento, though the A's suggest he has more work to do before he will rejoin the team, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Chavez is on the 60-day disabled list with chronic back pain, yet he was eligible to return to the roster today. With several young infielders on hand to take care of business, Oakland is taking time with Chavez and not rushing him along. Chavez has appeared in seven games for Sacramento, batting .417 with 10 hits, including one homer, in 24 at-bats. The team has yet to put a timetable on Chavez return, and while the work he is putting forth suggests that move will come soon, you can bet the A's are not going to rush things along.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 5/27, 8:06 AM CT
Eric Chavez is eligible to come off the DL today, but he is not ready yet, according to the SF Chronicle. Minor league fielding instructor Juan Navarette said, "He can field all angles, like he has in the past, and I like his attitude. He just looks like he needs to catch up a little on the physical side, but the technique is there. He's getting close."

Our View: Chavez has already has played a full game at third base for Triple-A Sacramento, so he is not too far off from returning to Oakland. The team will get a much needed boost defensively when he does return as well.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsFriday 5/23, 7:54 PM CT
Eric Chavez is eligible to come off the DL next Tuesday, but he'll likely need more time before returning from a back injury that has sidelined him all year, according to the AP. Chavez is batting .421 (8-for-29) with three doubles, one home run and two RBI during his rehab with Triple-A Sacramento, but he's also yet to play a full nine-inning game. "I don't want to predict anything right now," manager Bob Geren said. "But obviously he has to play nine innings."

Our View: The A's have struggled defensively, making 31 errors through their first 48 games, so they could use Chavez's strong defense at third. But they'll be cautious with him.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 5/19, 1:01 PM CT
Eric Chavez hit a home run in his third rehab game with Sacramento. He went 2-for-4 with a strikeout and scored two runs.

Our View: Chavez is expected to make his field debut at third base today. The team has no released any information on a timetable for his return to the 25-man roster.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsFriday 5/16, 8:25 AM CT
Eric Chavez went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in his first rehab game Thursday with Triple-A Sacramento. Chavez is working his way back from back problems.

Our View: The third baseman is in the DH spot for now and will eventually work his way to the hot corner.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 5/12, 10:32 AM CT
Eric Chavez is set to begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday, according to the SF Chronicle. He'll spend the next three days training in Arizona before joining the Triple-A River Cats when they start a homestand against Salt Lake.

Our View: Chavez will begin his rehab assignment as a DH before working his way to third base and playing deeper into games. Manager Bob Geren noted that Chavez will have to pass a lot of tests before returning to Oakland, and Chavez still thinks it is unrealistic to think he will come off DL when first eligible on May 27. Fantasy owners shall remain patient.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 5/10, 9:43 AM CT
Eric Chavez ran the bases and fielded grounders on Friday, according to the SF Chronicle. It was a good day for him, and Manager Bob Geren said Chavez could begin a minor-league rehab assignment "in the one or two-week range." He's eligible to come off the DL and join the team on May 27, and Geren said, "It's his goal right now." But Chavez is not sure he will be ready by that date, and said, "If I was a betting man, I'd say no. Before you start throwing out dates, you have to go out and play."

Our View: Chavez said his rehab assignment will be with Triple-A Sacramento and he plans to remain with Oakland through their three-city, nine-game trip, unless he's sent to the minors before it ends May 18. Fantasy owners shall remain patient.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsSunday 5/4, 8:14 PM CT
Eric Chavez doesn't expect to be activated when he becomes available on May 27. He is on the 60-day DL due to back problems. Chavez is able to swing without pain, but he can't handle third base duties, MLB.com reports. The club is not prepared to bring him back as a DH.

Our View: Apparently the A's would rather have Frank Thomas at DH, huh? It sounds like fantasy owners need to continue to be patient.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsFriday 5/2, 8:39 AM CT
Eric Chavez fielded grounders Thursday for the second straight day and felt even better this time than he did after the first workout, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Coming back from a back ailment, Chavez is still a ways away from starting a rehab assignment.

Our View: This is a positive development, but Chavez isn't close to returning. We'll continue to track his progress.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 4/30, 9:17 PM CT
The A's received some good news on Wednesday when Eric Chavez was able to take grounders and report that he felt no pain in his injured back, according to MLB.com. "It went fine," Chavez said. "They hit everything right at me, and there was no pain, so it went well." The team hopes that Chavez will be able to return on May 28th, though there certainly are more hurdles to overcome. "Hitting and throwing, [my back] feels as good as it could, health-wise," he said. "It's going to take a while with ground balls, though. It'd be great if [opponents] could just hit the ball right at me."

Our View: Chavez would be a great boost to those squads that have been sitting on him since draft day. There will likely be up and down times moving forward, but if Chavez can return to full health in the second half, then it would be like making a trade to add a high caliber performer as he can still perform well enough to be a useful fantasy piece if healthy.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 4/30, 9:59 AM CT
Eric Chavez is eligible to come off the 60-day DL on May 27, and Manager Bob Geren has May 28 marked as a possible date for Chavez to return to the A's lineup, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: There will always be concern that his chronic back problems will come back during the season, and he will remain a risky fantasy prospect upon his return to the lineup.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 4/26, 9:56 AM CT
Eric Chavez took batting practice with his team-mates on Friday for the first time since the afternoon of their home opener, according to the SF Chronicle. The third baseman also ran and he is able to throw, but he is yet to field grounders, the activity that gave him problems during the spring and led him to endure two epidurals for his surgically repaired back.

Our View: He isn't eligible to come off the 60-day DL until May 27, and Chavez doesn't think he'd be ready before then, anyway. He said he hasn't done any physical activity at the level of the daily major-league grind since July.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsThursday 4/24, 6:16 PM CT
Eric Chavez was moved to the 60-day DL to make room on the roster for newly acquired Frank Thomas, according to the AP.

Our View: This is more a procedural move than anything else. Chavez will begin baseball activities soon, and the team is hopeful he will be able to return when eligible on May 27th.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsFriday 4/4, 8:26 PM CT
Eric Chavez could be sidelined another month after undergoing his second epidural in less than five weeks, according to the AP. He will need a minimum of 2-3 weeks of rehab at the team’s spring training facility before resuming baseball activities. “At least (that long),” Oakland trainer Steve Sayles said. “He’s returning to Phoenix and will go back into rehab. We’re just going to take it from there.” Sayles said the second epidural was for spasms in the lower left side of Chavez’s back, while the first was for spasms on the right side. Jack Hannahan will continue to fill in at third for the A's while Chavez is out.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 4/2, 10:14 AM CT
Eric Chavez is going to visit a orthopedist (Dr. John Frazier) on Wednesday, according to MLB.com. Trainer Steve Sayles has stated, "He's going to physical therapy. Still no baseball activity at all. Just back therapy." Sayles won't reveal a timetable for Chavez's return, but it's likely that he will miss at least the first month of the season.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 3/22, 10:00 PM CT
Oakland 3B Eric Chavez has been halted and removed from all team activities pending improvement to his aching back, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Trainer Steve Sayles says Chavez has continued to have stiffness in his surgically repaired back, especially when fielding groundballs, so he will stop his rehab program and rest until pain-free. Assistant general manager David Forst said there has been no decision made on whether to place Chavez on the disabled list for Opening Night, but Sayles said that would be his recommendation. Chavez would be eligible to play on April 3, but that appears highly unlikely, considering that according to Sayles, Chavez's rehab will have to start "completely over" when he is pain-free again. Sayles would not put a time frame on the process.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsSunday 3/16, 8:39 AM CT
Not surprisingly, the A's will not bring Eric Chavez along when they travel to Japan, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Instead, he will continue to rehab his ailing back in Arizona with the hope he will be available for their home opener on April 1. Chavez has been taking batting practice and was able to run the bases on Saturday, but there's little sense in sticking him on a plane for 12 hours twice.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 3/11, 11:42 PM CT
3B Eric Chavez says he is ready to be the team's designated hitter and wants to jump into the roll once team doctors clear him to play, according to MLB.com. The hope, according to Chavez, is to be ready in time for the team's trip to Japan for the regular-season opener against Boston. However, if Chavez is not cleared to play, he won't be making the trip and will wait until the team returns stateside to make his '08 debut. With the injury history Chavez has built over recent seasons, the move to DH could be beneficial. Getting his bat in the lineup (not to mention the fantasy rotation) with regularity would be nice.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 3/10, 8:20 PM CT
Eric Chavez was cleared to resume running on Monday, this according to MLB.com. On the down side he is still about a week away from taking any groundballs. Chavez is highly doubtful to start the season on time, but if the team moves Jack Cust to the OF Chavez might be able to find his way into the lineup even if his back issues preclude him from fielding.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 3/10, 1:18 PM CT
Eric Chavez's opening day streak will likely end at nine, according to the SF Chronicle. Chavez still hasn't fielded any grounders, and won't until his agility improves. Back surgery takes a long time to heal and team trainer Steve Sayles stated, "It would be more advantageous for him to stay here and get work done rather than to make the trip to Japan". He also added that Chavez would not be medically fit to serve as DH. Chavez will continue to drop down fantasy draft boards.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 3/8, 3:30 PM CT
Eric Chavez was able to hit living pitching in a batting cage and played some catch Saturday for the second straight day, though he didn't do any fielding, according to MLB.com. "I just won't field any ground balls," Chavez said. "I don't know when I'll be doing that. It's impossible to say. It's days away." The A's believe working in the field led to the back spasms that in turn led to an epidural injection. At this point, the A's trainer is deciding daily what Chavez will be allowed to do, but he still hopes to be ready for opening day.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsThursday 3/6, 4:24 PM CT
Eric Chavez, six days removed from an epidural, returned to limited action on Thursday including lifting weights, riding a bike and soft tossing, this according to MLB.com. Chavez will now work on a staggered schedule moving forward meaning he will not hit and field on the same day. The team is still hopeful he will be ready to go around opening day, but with this measured approach the fantasy value of the A's third basemen is likely at an all-time low.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 3/3, 3:10 PM CT
Eric Chavez admitted on Monday that he may not be ready for the start of the season. On Friday, he received an epidural to help alleviate his back pain. Chavez underwent surgery in November to repair two damaged discs. "Right now I'm staying very positive with him because all his rehabs went so well this winter," manager Bob Geren tells MLB.com. "This was just a minor setback. He got the treatment to hopefully calm it down. I'll know more about that and where he is in a week or two." Jack Hannahan would start if Chavez were out.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsFriday 2/29, 2:33 PM CT
Eric Chavez received an injection Friday to ease inflammation in his lower back, according to the AP. "He was doing very well but the activity caught up with him," A’s head trainer Steve Sayles said. "It’s been gradually coming on and it got to the point we felt we needed to address it." Chavez, who is recovering from surgery on his back, is expected to miss about five days of action. He's also recovering from surgeries on both shoulders, so his health is something to watch very closely this spring.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 2/20, 8:56 AM CT
Eric Chavez underwent three surgeries between Sept. 5 and Nov. 16, which repaired a torn labrum in both shoulders and a bulging disc in his lower back. "Some of the issues with my forearms I hope are completely gone," he said, according to the Contra Costa Times. "Some of the issues I had with my neck hopefully are gone. But there's still scar tissue I have to deal with and soreness. I'm sure you ask anybody who's had surgery they'll say you're never really 100 percent anymore. I feel pretty good though." The A's plan to bring him along slowly this spring, but Chavez still intends to be ready for opening day.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 11/21, 11:06 AM CT
Eric Chavez is currently rehabbing from his third surgery of the fall, but he's still anticipating being ready for opening day next year, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Still, with all of the operations he's gone through, it seems likely he'll make it through the 2008 season unscathed.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsFriday 11/16, 5:42 PM CT
Eric Chavez underwent a procedure Friday to remove damaged tissue from his left shoulder, according to the AP. It was his third operation in the last two months. Chavez is scheduled to begin physical therapy in about a week, and the A's are hopeful the third baseman will be ready to go by the time spring training begins next year.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsThursday 11/1, 10:42 AM CT
Eric Chavez, who is recovering from back surgery, will get clearance to begin physical therapy on Monday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The feeling seems to be that Chavez will be ready when next season begins, but that's obviously a big question mark. The third baseman may not be worth the risk on draft day next year.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsThursday 10/11, 10:39 AM CT
Eric Chavez underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a bulging disk in his back, and he will begin his rehab in approximately three weeks, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. He is also recovering from shoulder surgery. At this point, the A's are not saying when he'll be ready to resume baseball activities, but the general thought is that he'll be ready by the time the regular season begins.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsFriday 9/7, 10:45 PM CT
A’s third baseman Eric Chavez had successful surgery on his right shoulder earlier this week and is expected to return in time for spring training, according to the Associated Press. Chavez had a damaged biceps tendon repaired and a "loose body" removed from the joint in an operation performed by Dr. Lewis Yocum on Wednesday.

Our View: While Chavez is expected to be ready to go for the start of spring training next season, he is now just a low end option for fantasy owners at the hot corner.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsFriday 8/31, 11:23 PM CT
Eric Chavez will undergo surgery on his troublesome right shoulder on Wednesday to repair his labrum, according to the AP. "At this point in the season, we felt like getting him started on something he needed to give him maximum time to get ready for next year, to get him strong and healthy," manager Bob Geren said. "It didn't look like he was going to play the rest of the year."

Our View: Doctors still need to figure out what is causing his back problems once the fix his shoulder. Hopefully he'll have enough time to recover from both in the offseason.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 8/29, 10:02 AM CT
There's a chance that Eric Chavez, who has been out since July with a bulging disk in his back, might not return this season, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. With the A's 14 games out of first place, there's really no need to rush him back.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsThursday 8/23, 9:36 PM CT
Eric Chavez has resumed swinging a bat, according to the AP. He's been out since July with a bulging disc in his back. There's still no timetable for his return.

Barring any setbacks, it's possible Chavez could resume some light baseball activity on Wednesday. It's still unclear when he'll be able to rejoin the A's.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 8/20, 9:43 PM CT
Eric Chavez is headed to Arizona and is expected to resume baseball activities, such as swinging and running, by this Wednesday, according to the AP. He's been out since Aug. 3 with back spasms.

Our View: An early September return for Chavez is looking more likely now.

Chavez said he was told to rest and rehab for the next two weeks, after which he'll be re-evaluated. The A's are hoping that surgery won't be necessary, but nothing is certain at this point.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 8/7, 10:08 AM CT
Eric Chavez will be eligible to come off the disabled list this weekend, but he won't be activated. The lower-back pain that forced Chavez to the DL isn't getting any better and could end up being more serious than originally thought, according to the Mercury News. Chavez will meet with a doctor in Texas on Wednesday. "We'll see what he's got to say," Chavez said. "I'll get an opinion and then I might see somebody else and then come up with a game plan. We're hoping that someone can point us in the right direction." Chavez said it would likely be "at least a couple weeks" before he returns.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsFriday 8/3, 5:33 PM CT

Eric Chavez, who missed his seventh straight game on Thursday with a back injury, was scheduled to take some swings in the cage, but was unable to do so, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Asked how he felt Thursday, Chavez said, "Not good. ... It hasn't really gone as planned. I've had back problems before and recovered pretty quickly - this one is a little puzzling." There are still no plans to place Chavez on the DL, but those plans could obviously change at any time.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 8/1, 9:47 AM CT
Eric Chavez is still not ready to return from his back injury, but the A's don't plan on placing him on the disabled list, because they don't anticipate him having to miss 15 days, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The third baseman was available off the bench on Tuesday if needed, so it at least appears as though he's making progress.

It's not clear if Eric Chavez will be able to play on Monday. However, manager Bob Geren is hopeful that he'll get Chavez back in the mix during their series with the Tigers, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Chavez is dealing with a recurring back injury, so the A's will want to make sure he's ready to play without risking a setback.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsFriday 7/27, 10:23 PM CT
Eric Chavez will miss the next few games with a recurring back injury, according to the AP. A's mmanager Bob Geren estimated that Chavez will be out for two or three games. "Eric's sore. Officially, he's day-to-day. But it will probably be another two-or-three-day-type situation," Geren said before Friday night's game.

Our View: Chavez has a history of back problems, so the time off will likely do him some good.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsThursday 7/26, 10:58 AM CT
Eric Chavez didn't start for the seventh time in nine games Wednesday, but he did pinch run for Mike Piazza in the ninth and scored on a sac fly. Manager Bob Geren said Chavez could be back in the lineup tonight, according to the Mercury News.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 7/24, 10:37 AM CT
Eric Chavez was out of the lineup again Monday. That makes five out of the last seven he's sat out while dealing with a sore lower back, and he also missed two games earlier this month with the ailment. "He might be out a couple of days," manager Bob Geren told the Mercury News. "I just want him to get healed up so it won't be recurring."
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsSunday 7/22, 1:00 AM CT

Depending on how he feels, there's a chance Chavez could play on Friday, but more likely he'll be back in action Saturday.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 7/18, 7:16 AM CT
Eric Chavez was held out of the A's lineup for a second straight day Tuesday, and he might need an MRI exam on his sore lower back, the AP reports. Chavez is also mired in a 4-for-22 slump. "It just kind of flared up one day, and he took a couple (of games) off," A's manager Bob Geren said. "Then he was fine. Then it kind of flared back up again. When he's ready to play, he's going to play."
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 7/16, 9:41 PM CT

Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 7/7, 7:59 AM CT
Eric Chavez said he has been bothered by a sore lower back since Monday. He missed games Thursday and Friday due to the malady, according to the Contra Costa Times. "I haven't had back problems in three years," he said. "It's an isolated spot. It's the right side. I usually have back problems on the left side." Chavez hopes to play Saturday, but with the All-Star break right around the corner, it wouldn't be surprising to see him sit out the remainder of the weekend for the added rest.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsThursday 6/21, 9:03 AM CT
Eric Chavez left Wednesday's game after eight innings due to a ribcage problem, an injury that forced him to miss games on Saturday and Sunday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsSaturday 5/26, 8:31 AM CT
Eric Chavez has missed the past three games due to tendinitis in his right triceps. However, he said he definitely would be back in the mix for Saturday's game, according to the Contra Costa Times. Chavez is hitting just .240 this season, so it's possible the injury has been playing a role in his slow start.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 5/23, 11:05 PM CT
Eric Chavez was out of the lineup for the second consecutive game on Wednesday, according to the AP. Chavez is dealing with tendinitis in his triceps and hopes to return to the lineup for the series opener against the Orioles. "He's going to have another day off today," manager Bob Geren said. "With the day off (Thursday), it will end up being three days off and he's optimistic about playing Friday at Baltimore."
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 5/23, 11:01 AM CT
Eric Chavez sat out Tuesday's game with a sore elbow, and he's not going to play Wednesday either, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Chavez will get three days of rest in all because the Athletics don't play Thursday.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsMonday 4/9, 11:46 PM CT
Eric Chavez had treatment on his arms Monday, something that will be a regular routine as he tries to avoid the tendinitis in his forearms and elbows that slowed him in 2006, the AP reports. "I don't think I could play without it," Chavez said of the detailed massage work. "I just need to do a little bit of work to build up strength. I didn't lift weights much this winter." Perhaps Chavez views this as a preventative measure, because a few days back he said he wasn't feeling discomfort in his forearms after dealing with it in March.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsFriday 4/6, 10:35 AM CT
Eric Chavez says the forearm discomfort he dealt with in spring training is no longer an issue, according to the Athletics official site. "Everything's good," he said. "Forearms, legs, everything. I feel great." Chavez is off to a 4-for-17 start this year, with one run scored and one RBI.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 3/21, 10:40 AM CT
Eric Chavez is seeing a chiropractor regularly as he deals with occasional forearm discomfort, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. He had one of these sessions Tuesday. Asked if he considered the forearm tightness to be a chronic condition, Chavez said "It kind of seems like it. But at least I know how to solve it when it happens." Chavez has also acknowledged changing his stance this year; his hands are higher, he's not standing as upright at the plate, and he's more crouched, an effort to have a more solid base for hitting.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsTuesday 9/26, 8:58 AM CT
Eric Chavez stated on Monday that if he could go back, he would have gone on the disabled list earlier in the year when he was dealing with problems in both forearms, accordingt to the Contra Costa Times. "For me, personally, yes, but as far as the team is concerned, I don't know, because here we are in first place," he said. "For me, personally, there's no doubt in my mind I would have benefited from going on the DL four to six weeks. What it would have done is take care of multiple things, not just one thing." Chavez is hitting just .241 with 21 homers and 69 RBI this year.
Eric Chavez, 3B, Oakland AthleticsSunday 9/24, 6:10 AM CT
Eric Chavez and several other Oakland regulars will likely get some rest next week after the A's clinch the AL West, according to the team's official site. Oakland's magic number is two entering Sunday's play. "I'd much rather have healthy and fresh players ready to go," manager Ken Macha said.
