Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 1/19, 3:57 PM CT
The Twins and Carl Pavano have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $7 million deal, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune's LaVelle Neal.

Our View: Pavano proved to be a valuable addition to the Twins' starting rotation in their push for the playoffs last season and should continue to eat innings in 2010.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsMonday 12/7, 6:31 PM CT
According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Carl Pavano will accept the Twins' offer of arbitration and return to the team in 2010.

Our View: He could make anything from $3 million to $7 million. In 12 starts with Minnesota after a midseason trade in 2009, he went 5-4 with a 4.64 ERA.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsMonday 12/7, 12:30 PM CT
Carl Pavano is expected to accept Minnesota's one-year arbitration offer, according to Fox Sports.

Our View: Apparently, his agent did not feel he could get the multi-year deal he was looking for. Though he was by no means close to the ace that he once showed flashes of, Pavano did have somewhat of a resurgent campaign last season and will have a concrete role in Minnesota's starting rotation should he indeed be back with the Twins.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 12/1, 5:36 PM CT
The Twins have offered salary arbitration to Carl Pavano, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Pavano is a Type B free agent. He could still sign a new deal with Minnesota if he refuses arbitration, and the team would like to retain him after he went 5-4 with a 4.64 ERA over 12 starts in 2009.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsMonday 11/23, 3:57 PM CT
The Brewers are interested in free agent pitcher Carl Pavano, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Our View: Pavano could be a nice low(er) cost addition to a Brewers rotation that got battered in 2009. While his numbers, 14-12 record, 5.10 ERA, were not awe-inspiring, he pitched nearly 200 innings, while striking out nearly 150 batters. A return to the National League could also bring those numbers down a little further.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 11/7, 6:49 PM CT
According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Twins starting pitcher Carl Pavano has filed for free agency. Pavano finished 2009 with a 5.10 ERA between Minnesota and Cleveland.

Our View: The ERA might not look all that great, but the fact that Pavano was able to pitch a full season without suffering a serious injury is a win in itself. He shouldn't have much trouble finding a team interested in his services for next season.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSunday 10/11, 9:49 PM CT
Carl Pavano pitched well on Sunday, but was still stuck with the loss as the Twins were eliminated from the playoffs by the Yankees. Pavano logged nine strikeouts through seven innings but allowed two solo blasts in the seventh that the Twins never came back from. He allowed seven baserunners in the game.

Our View: Pavano was cruising for most of the night but ran into a healthy dose of opposite-field power. He had an up and down season as he posted a 5.10 ERA, but 2009 has to be considered a success as he threw 199.1 innings in the regular season. He had not thrown over 100 innings since 2004. He will be a free agent this winter.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 10/7, 8:34 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Carl Pavano will get the start against the Yankees in Game 3 of the American League Division Series.

Our View: Pavano had a rough season, but was serviceable since coming over from the Indians, going 8-4 with a 4.64 ERA. He'll have a chance to stick it to his former team when it matters most in Game 3. Nick Blackburn will pitch Game 2 and if the Twins can force a Game 4 they will send Scott Baker to the mound.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 9/30, 9:34 PM CT
Carl Pavano was lit up for seven earned runs on seven hits over 4.2 innings in Wednesday's 7-2 loss at Detroit. He had two walks with four strikeouts.

Our View: Pavano had a nightmarish outing, and is 2-2 with a 4.86 ERA over six starts this month. He allowed 11 earned runs over his last two starts.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsFriday 9/25, 11:08 PM CT
Carl Pavano gave up four earned runs on eight hits over six innings in Friday's 9-4 win at Kansas City. He had one walk with five strikeouts, and allowed two homers.

Our View: Pavano did not have a solid outing, but the Twins scored plenty of runs for him to earn his 13th win of 2009. He is 2-0 over his last four starts, and allowed two or less earned runs twice over the span.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 9/19, 6:27 PM CT
Carl Pavano held the Tigers to just two runs on 11 hits over seven innings on Saturday. He fanned four and did not walk a man, but also did not earn a decision as the Twins scored five in the eighth en route to a 6-2 win.

Our View: Pavano has looked like a new pitcher since joining the Twins. He's 3-3 with an ERA under 4.00 for Minnesota, as opposed to a 9-8 record with a 5.37 ERA while with the Indians. He's not a fantasy darling by any stretch, but worth a pickup in AL-only leagues if he's still on the wire.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsMonday 9/14, 11:23 PM CT
Carl Pavano gave up three earned runs on six hits over six innings in Monday's 6-3 win over the Indians at the Metrodome. He had one walk with four strikeouts, and allowed two homers.

Our View: The Indians were leading 3-0 when Pavano exited, so he takes a no-decision instead of a win for his decent outing. He allowed three or less earned runs in each of his last five starts.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSunday 9/13, 7:41 AM CT
The Chicago Tribune is reporting that the Minnesota Twins are considering re-signing starting pitcher Carl Pavano. Pavano has won 12 games this season and recently outdueled Blue Jays' ace Roy Halladay.

Our View: Pavno has been anything but consistent this season, but he is sure trying to convince the Twins to sign him with his play as of late. He has allowed two or less earned runs in three of his last four starts, and anytime a pitcher beats Halladay it is impressive.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 9/9, 8:37 PM CT
Carl Pavano outdueled opposing hurler Roy Halladay in Wednesday's 4-1 win at Toronto, as he only surrendered one earned run on six hits over 7.1 innings. He had two walks with five strikeouts.

Our View: Pavano claimed his 12th win of 2009, and is pitching well again, as he allowed two or less earned runs in three of his last four starts.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsFriday 9/4, 9:12 PM CT
Carl Pavano gave up four runs (three earned) on eight hits over six innings in Friday's 5-2 loss at Cleveland. He had two walks and six strikeouts.

Our View: Pavano falls to 11-11 for the season, and only earned one win over his last five starts.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 8/29, 10:08 PM CT
Carl Pavano hurled his second straight quality start for the Twins on Saturday night, striking out seven in six innings while allowing just two runs, but still fell to 11-10 on the season, as the Twins lost 3-0 to the Rangers at home.

Our View: Pavano is now 2-2 with a 4.06 ERA in five Twins starts.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSunday 8/23, 5:26 PM CT
Carl Pavano allowed two earned runs on eight hits over seven innings in Sunday's 10-3 win at Kansas City. He had no walks and two strikeouts.

Our View: Pavano enjoyed a solid day from the hill, and collected his 11th win of 2009. He is 3-1 with a 3.55 ERA over five starts this month, and should be penciled into fantasy lineups for his next turn in Minnesota's rotation.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 8/18, 11:14 PM CT
Carl Pavano was roughed up for five earned runs on seven hits over a mere four innings in Tuesday's 9-6 win at Texas. He had three walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: Pavano had a tough night on the hill, and is lucky the Twins scored plenty of runs for him to take a no-decision rather than a loss. He has given up five earned runs in each of his last two starts with Minnesota, and looks to remain an unstable fantasy option.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsThursday 8/13, 3:32 PM CT
Carl Pavano got roughed up by a usually inept Royals' lineup on Thursday as the Twins fell by a score of 5-4. Pavano went seven innings and allowed five runs on five hits while walking three and striking out six.

Our View: Pavano really only had one bad inning, but the numbers just weren't great today in a game that, on paper, he should have won. Pavano was outstanding in his first start with the Twins, but not so much today. He has shown the ability to produce excellent starts at times, but he is very inconsistent. Own him at your own risk.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 8/8, 11:44 PM CT
Carl Pavano dominated the Tigers on Saturday. He tossed seven shutout innings and allowed just five hits and did not walk a batter. He fanned five and earned his tenth win of the season.

Our View: Pavano tossed a gem Saturday, but his ERA for the season is still at 5.09. Starts like this are a rarity from him so proceed at your own risk.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 8/8, 9:45 AM CT
Carl Pavano will start Saturday for the Twins, according to MLB.com. Pavano was acquired Friday in a trade from the Indians.

Our View: Saturday was Pavano's scheduled day to pitch, so the Twins decided to go with him today. He has had good success against Saturday's opponent, Detroit, with a 3-0 record and a 1.93 ERA against them this season. Unfortunately, he will be opposed on the mound by Justin Verlander, so a win may be very hard to come by.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsFriday 8/7, 10:40 AM CT
According to the Twitter page of Cleveland Indians Insider, the team has traded pitcher Carl Pavano to Minnesota for a player to be named later. Pavano is 9-8 with a 5.37 ERA this season.

Our View: Pavano has been a hot name for teams looking for starting pitching now that the deadline has passed, and the Twins are the team that has landed him. This move was most likely heavily influenced by the injury to Kevin Slowey, and Pavano is in a much better position in Minnesota than he was in Cleveland.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSunday 8/2, 3:26 PM CT
Carl Pavano improved to 9-8 against Detroit on Sunday after giving just one run over eight innings off six hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

Our View: Pavano's fine performance came after he had given up a combined 13 runs in his previous two. He's still a very tough hurler to trust, so proceed with caution.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 7/22, 9:56 PM CT
Carl Pavano was lit up for seven earned runs on seven hits over 4.2 innings in Wednesday's 10-6 loss at Toronto. He had two walks and four strikeouts, and was tagged for four homers.

Our View: Pavano had a nightmarish outing tonight, but only allowed two earned runs in each of his previous three starts, and should be able to bounce back fine.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 7/11, 8:52 PM CT
Carl Pavano only surrendered two earned runs on seven hits over eight innings in Saturday's 5-4 win at Detroit. He had no walks and fired six strikeouts.

Our View: Pavano pitched well, and now has a winning record at 8-7. He has allowed two or less earned runs in each of his last three starts and should be penciled into fantasy lineups for his next turn in the Indians' rotation.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 7/4, 9:08 PM CT
Carl Pavano won his seventh start of the season on Saturday, striking out three in 6.2 innings of the work as the Indians defeated the A's 5-2.

Our View: Pavano's improbable return from the dead continues. He is still only a fringe fantasy option, however, as both his 5.36 ERA and 1.41 WHIP are less than sterling.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsMonday 6/29, 9:27 PM CT
Carl Pavano allowed two earned runs on five hits over seven innings in Monday's 6-3 loss to the rival White Sox at Progressive Field. He had no walks and fired six strikeouts.

Our View: Pavano pitched well, and it is unfortunate he is forced to take a loss due to poor offensive support from his teammates. He now has a losing record at 6-7 with the struggling Indians.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 6/24, 10:39 PM CT
Carl Pavano was roughed up for eight runs (three earned) on 11 hits over a mere 3.2 innings in Wednesday's 10-6 loss at Pittsburgh. He had one walk and three strikeouts.

Our View: Pavano has taken two losses over his last three starts, and gave up 18 earned runs over the span. He should only be employed in deeper fantasy leagues for his next outing.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 6/20, 8:19 AM CT
According to the Plain Dealer, starter Carl Pavano will throw a bullpen session on Sunday and is slated to start Wednesday's game against Pittsburgh.

Our View: Pavano had his last turn on the mound skipped due to poor performance. The team wanted him to get his head straight before going out and laying another egg. They also wanted to give him a mid-season rest since he hasn't pitched this deep into a season in a few years because of injuries.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 6/17, 4:05 PM CT
According to Cleveland.com, Carl Pavano's turn in the rotation will be skipped on Saturday. He will be replaced by Tomo Ohka.

Our View: Pavano has been rocked in his last two starts and this break in the rotation couldn't come at a better time for him. He's not injured. He just needs to figure out why he can't pitch effectively, and with 15 earned runs in his last two starts fantasy owners (if there are any) won't mind if he takes some time to figure things out.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsMonday 6/15, 10:28 PM CT
Carl Pavano was rocked for six earned runs on nine hits over five innings in Monday's 14-12 loss to the Brewers at Progressive Field. He had one walk and two strikeouts, and gave up a two-run homer to Ryan Braun.

Our View: Cleveland was leading 8-6 when he exited, so Pavano ends the night with a no-decision. He has given up 15 earned runs over his last two outings, and will be an unstable fantasy option for his next trip to the hill.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 6/10, 8:53 PM CT
Carl Pavano was rocked for nine earned runs in 4.2 innings in Cleveland's 9-0 loss to the Royals on Wednesday. He allowed 11 hits, including three home runs, to go with one walk and one strikeout.

Our View: Pavano was coming off of a complete game shutout against the White Sox in his last start. He was a completely different pitcher tonight and his 4.2 innings was his shortest outing since his first start of the season.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsFriday 6/5, 10:09 PM CT
Carl Pavano only allowed three hits over nine innings in Friday's 6-0 win at Chicago. He had two walks and six strikeouts.

Our View: Pavano improves to 6-4, and recorded his first complete game and shutout tonight against the division rival Sox on their home turf. Pavano has three wins over his last four starts, and should remain active in fantasy lineups.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsFriday 6/5, 11:00 AM CT
Carl Pavano will be going for his sixth win of the season on Friday night when he goes against the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field.

Our View: Yes, that Carl Pavano. The same player who barely won six games in three years for the Yankees. While he's not having the greatest fantasy season of all time, he does have a 50-to-13 strikeouts to walks ratio, and is picking up wins at a decent clip. He's also allowed three earned runs or less in six of his last seven starts, lowering his ERA from 7.46 to 5.29 over that span. So as crazy as it seems, he is definitely worth a spot start and perhaps even an add in a majority of formats.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSunday 5/31, 3:19 PM CT
Carl Pavano did not factor into the decision on Sunday as the Indians beat the Yankees 5-4. Pavano went 7.1 innings and allowed 3 runs on seven hits while striking out four.

Our View: Nice performance by Pavano against his old team. He wasn't amazing, but he showed good control and he did not walk a batter. The Indians will take a start like this every night from Pavano, and fantasy owners shouldn't complain either.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 5/26, 9:41 PM CT
Carl Pavano was impressive again on Tuesday, as the Indians beat the Rays 5-1. Pavano went seven innings and allowed one run on four hits while walking two and striking out six.

Our View: Pavano has been pretty good in his last few starts, and he is finally looking like a decent fantasy candidate. He should be taken in AL-only leagues, and mixed leagues should start giving him looks as well.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsThursday 5/21, 5:59 PM CT
Carl Pavano tossed six solid innings on Thursday and evened his record at 4-4 with an 8-3 win over the Royals. The Indians' hurler allowed three runs on six hits and a walk and struck out eight.

Our View: Pavano still has an ERA over 6.00 this season, but this start was encouraging. After a miserable April he has put up quality starts in three of his five May appearances.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 5/16, 7:12 PM CT
Carl Pavano pitched pretty well on Saturday, but he took the loss in the Indians game against the Rays. Pavano went five innings and allowed three runs on six hits while walking two and striking out six.

Our View: Not bad by Pavano today, but he was outdueled by Matt Garza. Pavano has been decent this season, but his numbers are less than excellent. He is AL-only material at this point, but he could develop into mixed league worthy if he puts together a few good starts.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsMonday 5/11, 10:19 PM CT
Carl Pavano picked up his third win on Monday, giving up four runs off 10 hits and zero walks with three strikeouts against the White Sox.

Our View: It was by no means a stellar performance, but still more than enough to muster a win behind nine runs from the offense. Pavano has now won three straight starts, though it'd still probably be best not to bother with him in mixed formats.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 5/6, 10:56 PM CT
Carl Pavano improved to 2-3 after throwing six innings of two run ball against the Red Sox on Wednesday.

Our View: Pavano is still an extreme longshot to offer any value this season, but he did lower his ERA to 6.61 in this outing. With his injury history, he doesn't deserve to be anything more than a bench/depth play in AL-only leagues.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsFriday 5/1, 11:08 PM CT
Carl Pavano picked up his first win as a member of the Indians on Friday, going 7.1 innings and allowing two runs on five hits while striking out three.

Our View: Pavano has struggled this season, but he was very good tonight. He held a tough Tigers' lineup in check for seven innings until he ran into trouble in the eighth. Pavano may hold some value in AL-only leagues if he keeps pitching like this, but right now his value is not there.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 4/25, 9:33 PM CT
Carl Pavano gave up 11 hits in five innings of work as the Indians lost 7-1 to the Twins on Saturday. He fell to 0-3 while allowing five earned runs and striking out three.

Our View: Pavano actually improved his ERA in this outing. When the Indians signed him to a deal this past offseason, most people thought it was a terrible move. Turns out most people were right.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSunday 4/19, 4:21 PM CT
Carl Pavano threw six strong innings against his former team on Sunday as the Indians beat the Yankees 7-3. He allowed only one run on four hits and one walk.

Our View: This was easily the best showing from Pavano over his first three starts. He still carries too much risk to add onto fantasy rosters.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 4/14, 11:36 PM CT
Carl Pavano allowed four runs on eight hits over six innings and lost his second consecutive start as the Indians fell to the Royals 9-3. On the bright side, he struck out eight on the night.

Our View: Pavano improved by leaps and bounds in his second start, but that's not saying much. It's hard not to improve on a one-inning, nine-earned run outing. Don't even joke about adding Pavano to your fantasy rotation.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsThursday 4/9, 6:26 PM CT
Carl Pavano had a forgettable season debut on Thursday against the Rangers. He lasted just one inning while giving up nine runs on six hits. He also walked three batters and surrendered two home runs.

Our View: The only positive to come out of Pavano's disaster is that he should be more than fresh for his next outing. He threw only 39 pitches before his early exit.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsThursday 4/9, 11:22 AM CT
Carl Pavano will make his first start with the Indians today at Texas, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The oft-injured righty simply stated, "It is a new start."

Our View: Pavano only won nine of his last 26 starts in the majors, with a 5.10 ERA over the span. Expectations should be low in his first start of 2009.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 4/4, 7:38 PM CT
Carl Pavano allowed just one run in five innings of work as the Indians beat the Astros 4-3 on Saturday. He struck out four while giving up four hits.

Our View: After a somewhat rocky start to the spring, Pavano has strung together two good outings in a five-day span. Although we don't expect much from him this season, he is probably worth monitoring in the early going.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsMonday 3/30, 9:10 PM CT
Carl Pavano went 6.2 innings in Monday's 5-2 win over the Padres. He allowed four hits, one walk, and one earned run while striking out three hitters and earning his second win of the spring.

Our View: Pavano has nine strikeouts against six walks in 23.2 innings this spring to go with a 5.70 ERA. He has been good enough to make the Indians rotation, but not good enough to win over fantasy owners.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 3/25, 6:03 PM CT
Carl Pavano finally had a decent start this spring. He scattered seven hits over six innings and allowed just two runs.

Our View: Don't get too excited about this start. Pavano still has a 7.41 ERA this spring and has more injury concerns than a Vietnam vet. Leave him off your roster unless you like flirting with disaster.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 3/25, 8:46 AM CT
Carl Pavano will start today's game against the Padres, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View: Pavano has allowed 12 earned runs and 15 hits in 11 innings, and opposing batters hold a .324 average against him. Pavano is an unstable fantasy option for 2009.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsFriday 3/20, 8:00 PM CT
Carl Pavano was utterly terrible Friday against Oakland, allowing six runs, all earned, on seven hits in four innings.

Our View: Pavano was also erratic on top of being extremely hittable. He walked three Oakland batters during his outing, but somehow avoided the loss.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 3/10, 7:28 PM CT
Carl Pavano didn't have a solid showing against the Angels Tuesday. He went three innings and allowed three runs on four hits.

Our View: If Pavano can get his act together, he should do well away from the glare of the New York media and find a nice place in the middle of the Cleveland rotation.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 3/4, 7:14 PM CT
Carl Pavano's second start wasn't nearly as good as his first. He allowed three runs on four hits and one walk over two innings while fanning just one.

Our View: The Indians don't have huge expectations for Pavano like the Yankees did, so he should be expected to rebound from this fairly quickly.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 2/28, 8:40 PM CT
Carl Pavano looked really good for the Indians on Saturday, giving them two perfect innings to begin his spring.

Our View: If Pavano returns to the form he had with the Marlins, he could be a great late-round pick up for fantasy owners.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 1/6, 2:31 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, the Indians have inked Carl Pavano to a one-year deal, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The deal is believed to be worth around $2 million.

Our View: The once-hyped Pavano fell out of favor in New York, but the Indians are giving him a chance to see if he can round out their starting rotation.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 1/6, 11:14 AM CT
Buster Olney of ESPN indicates that the Indians are in serious talks with Carl Pavano.

Our View: He will visit the club soon and a deal could be sealed quickly. He could benefit from a fresh start in Cleveland, and potentially provide favorable depth near the back of their rotation.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSunday 1/4, 8:43 AM CT
The Marlins are interested in signing Carl Pavano, according to the Miami Herald. Currently, the teams aren't totally in sync as far as dollars go. Pavano is looking for $2 million in base salary while the Marlins are offering $1 million plus incentives.

Our View: Pavano started his career with Florida and pitched well enough there to earn the lucrative deal he got from the Yankees. Perhaps a change to the old scenery will help him return to his former pitching form.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsFriday 12/26, 9:00 AM CT
The Yankees have no desire to retain Carl Pavano, despite his desire to remain with the team, according to the New York Post.

Our View: It still seems quite plausible they sign another starter, but they will likely try and seek out some new blood. Pavano was a huge disappointment in his first stint in pin stripes.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 12/16, 11:39 PM CT
Although Carl Pavano's name came up while the Orioles were talking to the representative for Pavano and Tim Redding, it appears that the interest is just in Redding, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: The Orioles probably want to stay closer to a know-what-they'll-get type pitcher, as opposed to Pavano who is coming off four injury-riddled years in New York.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 12/16, 1:50 PM CT
The Orioles are talking to Carl Pavano's rep, according to ESPN.

Our View: The Orioles are talking to Tim Redding as well, who has the same rep as Pavano (Tom O'Connell). The Orioles are looking to replace Daniel Cabrera, and are exploring mid-rotation types, like the aforementioned players.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 12/10, 12:51 PM CT
The Brewers have reportedly had internal talks regarding Carl Pavano, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com.

Our View: Pavano has a poor track record with durability and reliability, and would be an unstable addition to the Brewers' rotation as they attempt to replace CC Sabathia and likely Ben Sheets.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 12/10, 7:39 AM CT
Carl Pavano is on the Marlins' list of targets, according to BaseballProspectus.com.

Our View: Pavano was a disappointment during his time with the Yankees, but has been a surprisingly hot target on the free agent market.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 12/9, 5:45 PM CT
The Red Sox are showing interest in Carl Pavano, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: The Marlins still appear to be the favorite for Pavano with the Yankees also interested in bringing him back.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsMonday 12/8, 7:27 PM CT
The Toronto Blue Jays are one of about 10 teams that have shown interest in hurler Carl Pavano, MLB.com reports.

Our View: Pitching is always at a premium, and Pavano has been a solid arm when healthy, though he was an unmitigated disaster in New York.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsFriday 11/14, 11:39 AM CT
The Marlins may have interest in free agent pitcher Carl Pavano, the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com reports.

Our View: Pavano's two healthy years in the majors (2003, 2004) came in Florida, and both sides may be interested. A club would be wise to only offer a one-year, incentive-laden deal.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 11/11, 5:14 PM CT
The Rockies have expressed interest in free agent Carl Pavano, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: Well, you know someone will take a chance on the right-hander. It appears the Rox might be that team.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 11/4, 5:21 PM CT
Carl Pavano officially became a free agent today when the Yankees declined their option on the pitcher, according to the Sports Network.

Our View: Pavano has been a complete bust for the Yankees. In 2008 the starter only made seven starts but was 4-2. Their is some talk that the Yankees still have some interest in Pavano.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 11/4, 10:56 AM CT
The Yankees may be interested in bringing back Carl Pavano, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View: Pavano's first deal with the Yankees was a disaster. He made just under $40 million over four years. Pavano started just 26 games over the four years, and posted a 5.02 ERA with a 9-8 record during that time. He would likely get a much smaller deal this time around.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsThursday 9/25, 9:16 PM CT
Carl Pavano lasted just 3.2 innings and gave up five earned runs on eight hits and two walks.

Our View: After returning from a two-year hiatus in August, Pavano put together a 4-2 record with a 5.77 ERA. It will be interesting to see what, if anything, he will find on the free agent market this winter.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsFriday 9/19, 9:42 PM CT
Carl Pavano improved to 4-1 when the Yankees beat the Orioles on Friday. He allowed two earned runs in five innings of work.

Our View: He had left his last start with a hip injury but that appears to be behind him.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSunday 9/14, 7:05 PM CT
Carl Pavano, who was forced to leave his start due to a hip injury, is confident he will make his next scheduled start, according to the Associated Press. “Every time I go out there, there’s more innings than the last time and more pitches than the last time so I mean these are things I’m going to have to work through.”

Our View: Pavano has three victories in five starts, though his ERA is poor (5.26). Your are really taking your chances with Pavano at this point though he is looking to prove his worth heading into next season.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSunday 9/14, 2:58 PM CT
Pavano left his start on Sunday in the sixth inning with a left hip injury, MLB.com reports.

Our View: There is no word on the severity of the injury. We will keep you posted.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 9/3, 10:28 PM CT
Carl Pavano ran into trouble in the fifth inning and only worked an official four innings in Wednesday night's win over the Rays. Pavano allowed three runs on six hits, walked two and struck out one.

Our View: The Yankees are determined to make a run in September, and with that comes little patience from a pitcher in a jam.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsFriday 8/29, 10:09 PM CT
Carl Pavano only issued one earned run on three hits over six innings in Friday's 2-1 win over the Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium, with one walk and one strikeout.

Our View: Pavano looks to remain in the Yankees' rotation in September (with Joba Chamberlain returning in a relief role), and is worth targeting as a flier in AL-only leagues following tonight's strong performance.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsThursday 8/28, 9:56 AM CT
Carl Pavano has been placed on waivers by the Yankees, according to the NY Post. Pavano was put on waivers within the last 24 hours and is available to be claimed and then traded if the Yankees find a match.

Our View: He is still scheduled to start Friday against the Blue Jays if he clears waivers with New York. The Post believes the Mets may have interest in Pavano after likely losing John Maine for the season.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 8/23, 9:21 PM CT
It wasn't pretty, but Carl Pavano escaped with a win Saturday in his first start with the Yankees since last April. The righty allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out five over five innings.

Our View: Pavano was understandably rusty, but this was a positive outing. Hopefully he can improve the next time out.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 8/23, 6:05 PM CT
The Yankees activated Carl Pavano from the DL Saturday. He will start tonight against the Orioles.

Our View: Pavano will be making his third start since 2005. He should be monitored but is too risky of a fantasy proposition to pick up immediately.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsThursday 8/21, 2:39 PM CT
Carl Pavano, who is trying to bounce back from right elbow surgery, has been chosen for Saturday's start against Baltimore, according to the AP. Thomas O'Connell (his agent) said, "Obviously, he’s very excited to be back in the big leagues and to pitch for the club. His plan and his focus was to make it back this year and, obviously, he worked extremely hard to put himself in this position."

Our View: Pavano is worth taking a flier on in deeper AL-only leagues. He will be a risky option, but could also prove to be a pleasant surprise.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 8/19, 6:35 PM CT
Carl Pavano was unable to work his bullpen session on Tuesday due to a stiff neck, the New York Post reports. He suffered the injury during a minor league start on Sunday. Pavano is in the mix to start on Saturday against the Orioles.

Our View: Pavano has had a flurry of injuries since joining the Yankees in December of 2004, and it only seems fitting that he is dealing with another ailment now. We should know his Saturday start status by Thursday.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsMonday 8/18, 5:51 PM CT
Carl Pavano could be back with the Yankees this weekend, when the team needs a fifth starter Saturday against the Orioles, according to the AP. Coming back from Tommy John surgery, Pavano allowed one run in six inning in his latest rehab start. "He's had no setbacks in his rehab at all," GM Brian Cashman said. "He's close to being ready for us, which is great."

Our View: Phil Hughes is the Yanks' other option for Saturday. Neither pitcher would deserve immediate fantasy consideration.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSunday 8/17, 12:29 PM CT
Carl Pavano, who is pitching with Double-A Trenton, will be monitored closely as a possible candidate to serve as the Yankees' fifth starter next week against Baltimore, according to the AP. Phil Hughes (at Triple-A Scranton) is the other top candidate for the start.

Our View: Pavano will be a fantasy risk, but still has potential to bounce back as a solid starter, and could be worth a look in deeper AL-only leagues.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 8/9, 8:37 AM CT
It is entirely possible that Yankees pitcher Carl Pavano could make a start in the majors very soon, according to the New York Post. Pavano threw a rehab start in Double-A and went 3.2 innings, allowing no runs on one hit and depositing four hitters via strikeout.

Our View: The Yankees need pitching badly, so Pavano may make his next start in the bigs. To put it very mildly, he is a fantasy risk.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 8/5, 5:27 PM CT
Carl Pavano will move up to Double-A Trenton for a rehab start on Thursday, the AP reports. He has made two starts for Low-A Charleston.

Our View: We're not holding our breath. Pavano is coming back from right elbow surgery, and he has plenty of time to work his way into another injury before the Yankees call him back to the majors.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSunday 8/3, 7:03 PM CT
Carl Pavano and Phil Hughes both had effective outings on Saturday in Single-A, according to the Associated Press. Pavano allowed one run in three innings while Hughes permitted just one hit in 3.2 scoreless innings.

Our View: That duo would provide a welcomed boost to a club that could use some healthy arms. Hughes would appear to be the better bet of the two, but neither one should be counted on due to the variety of injuries both have faced of late.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 6/24, 9:04 AM CT
Carl Pavano, who is recovering from right elbow surgery, is expected to be ready to take the mound for the Yankees by August, according to the NY Post.

Our View: Pavano is in the fourth and final year of a $40 million deal with New York that has been consumed by injuries that have limited him to 19 games and teammates not believing he was as injured as he said he was at times. Pavano appeared in two games at the start of last year and hasn't pitched since. Pavano is throwing curveballs off a mound, and will be ready to pitch before Phil Hughes.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 5/27, 4:34 PM CT
Carl Pavano threw 35 pitches off a half-mound Monday, according to the Canadian Press. The righty is coming back from Tommy John surgery.

Our View: Yes, Pavano is still alive in case you were wondering, but fantasy owners don't really need to pay attention.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsFriday 5/16, 2:05 PM CT
Carl Pavano could throw off the half mound sometime next week in his ongoing attempt to make it back from arm surgery, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View: Does anyone really care anymore? After the contract signed by Mike Hampton, Pavano's deal is likely the worst in the history of baseball for a starting pitcher.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 3/22, 8:16 AM CT
Carl Pavano was placed on the 60-day disabled list by the New York Yankees. Pavano, who had Tommy John surgery hopes to return sometime after the All Star break. The oft-injured right-hander is not likely to pitch again, at least not for the Yankees.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsSaturday 2/9, 8:36 AM CT
The Yankees and Carl Pavano still hope that he will be able to contribute this season, according to the New York Daily News. "Sometime this summer, that's the best-case scenario for him to be competitively pitching," GM Brian Cashman said. "Whether that's rehab games or more, we'll see." The oft-injured pitcher is working his way back from June 5 Tommy John surgery and is entering the final year of his four-year, $40 million contract. He's been doing some light throwing drills, but it's debatable whether he'll really be able to do anything for the Yankees this season.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 12/11, 9:58 PM CT

His current deal with New York runs through next season. With at least a year of recovery ahead of Pavano, it's unlikely the frail pitcher will get back on the mound for the Yankees again.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 5/23, 9:38 PM CT
After being examined by four doctors over the past few weeks, it appears that Carl Pavano is headed for reconstructive elbow surgery, according to the AP. "All four doctors conclude that he has a damaged ligament and recommend Tommy John surgery," Yankees GM Brian Cashman said. "Some of the doctors say it's possible that, he's gone through rest and therapy and a throwing program, it's possible to try that again. But there's some risks that can go with that. You could do further damage to the elbow," Cashman said.
Carl Pavano, P, Minnesota TwinsTuesday 5/22, 8:21 PM CT
Carl Pavano is awaiting permission from the Yankees to undergo reconstructive elbow surgery that would sideline him for most if not all of what remains on his $39.95 million, four-year contract. "We've received all the written reports from all the doctors that examined Carl over the several weeks," Pavano's agent, Gregg Clifton, told the AP Tuesday. "I'll be reaching out to Brian (Cashman) tomorrow in an effort to get all of us moving in the same direction with regard to Carl and the proper steps for his recovery." Pavano made two starts for the Yankees this year, going 1-0 with a 4.76 ERA.

We talked about it, it was a conversation he sort of instigated, that he's not sure at this point in time of shutting it down. I'm going to extend the conversation."
