Keith Foulke, P, Oakland AthleticsMonday 1/12, 10:56 AM CT
The Miami Herald reports that the Florida Marlins have expressed interest in free-agent reliever Keith Foulke

Our View: Foulke was one of the game's top closers during his stops in Chicago, Oakland, and Boston, before having a falling-out with Red Sox Nation in 2006. He came out of an abbreviated retirement to sign a one-year deal to return to the A's last spring, where he pitched in only 31 games a season ago.

Keith Foulke, who is dealing with right shoulder inflammation, will throw a bullpen session today, according to the SF Chronicle. He is then scheduled to throw in a rookie-league game in Arizona on Monday and after a few games there would head to Sacramento.

Our View: Foulke would help the Athletics' bullpen upon his return, but is not worth holding in anything but deeper AL-only leagues that use middle men.
Keith Foulke, P, Oakland AthleticsSunday 8/17, 7:17 AM CT
Keith Foulke hasn't pitched at Triple-A Sacramento in more than a week due to shoulder soreness, but an MRI taken two days ago revealed no structural damage, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: Foulke would help the Athletics' pen upon his return, but is not worth waiting for in anything but deeper AL-only leagues that use middle men.
Keith Foulke, P, Oakland AthleticsFriday 8/8, 7:16 AM CT

Keith Foulke, who is recovering from neck stiffness, is continuing his long throwing program at the team's complex in Phoenix and he could be on track to pitch in a game on Friday, either at extended spring in Arizona or as a rehab appearance with a minor-league club, according to the SF Chronicle. Because reliever Foulke does not have to build up his arm strength the way a starter would, it's possible he will be back in Oakland's bullpen on their next homestand.

Our View: He will compete for playing time out of the Athletics' pen, but his fantasy value is limited.

The D'Backs appear to be close to making former All-Star Keith Foulke a contract. Foulke sat out last year and ended up having surgery on his pitching elbow to remove bone chips. "Yeah, definitely they are one of his top choices," said Dan Horwits, Foulke's agent, told the Arizona Republic. "If it works out, he would love to pitch there. There are other teams he is interested in as well, but Arizona is on the top of the list." The righty through for the D'Backs last week and his fastball sat in the 81-84 range, though he could get some more velocity as his arm gets into shape. The team likely envisions Foulke as a potential setup man, not a possibility at closer, despite his 190 career saves.
Keith Foulke, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 1/9, 11:40 AM CT

The D'Backs plan to watch Foulke throw later this month, but it's not clear at this point what other teams will be in attendance, according to the Arizona Republic. It's possible (though very unlikely) that Foulke could end up competing for the closer role in Arizona, but he'll probably have to work his way back as a middle reliever at first.
