Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesTuesday 12/30, 7:56 PM CT
The Baltimore Orioles may be interested in the services of free-agent first baseman Richie Sexson, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: The team has only had initial conversations with Sexson's agent. He'd likely be good for a bushel of home runs in Baltimore, but it would be hard for fantasy owners to stomach the batting average that would come with it.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesSaturday 8/16, 9:08 AM CT
The Philadelphia Phillies are not interested in acquiring first baseman Richie Sexson despite their need for another power bat off the bench, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

Our View: Why would they be? Why would anyone? Sexson has struck out 31% of his at-bats this season, and has gotten on base just 32% of the time.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesFriday 8/15, 3:55 PM CT
As expected, Richie Sexson has been released by the Yankees, according to the AP. The club recalled outfielder Brett Gardner from Triple-A Scranton as the corresponding move.

Our View: Sexson was brought to the Yankees to improve their production against left-handed pitching, but he failed to make an impact and was too easy of an out. He only mustered 12 homers over 280 at-bats this season as well.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesFriday 8/15, 2:30 PM CT
Richie Sexson will be waived by the Yankees today, according to the NY Post. Cody Ransom is expected to be called up from Triple-A to fill Sexson's spot on the roster.

Our View: Sexson was added to the Yankees to improve their offense against left-handed pitching, but the drastic holes in his swing made him too easy of an out. He only has 12 homers over 280 at-bats as well.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesTuesday 8/5, 10:46 PM CT
Richie Sexson went 2-for-4 with a grand slam in Tuesday's loss to the Rangers.

Our View: Sexson's bomb proved to be too little, too late for the Yankees. It was Richie's first homer with his new club, which is nice. He has no fantasy value.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesTuesday 8/5, 5:10 PM CT
Richie Sexson will be in the lineup when the Yankees face the Rangers on Tuesday night, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram confirms. Jason Giambi is not in the lineup.

Our View: The Yankees will be facing rookie left-hander Matt Harrison, and Sexson still seems to be able to hit southpaws.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesFriday 7/18, 6:45 PM CT
The Yankees have hit the field with newly-signed outfielder Richie Sexson in the lineup, having completed his contract negotiations today, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: The Yankees signed the big first baseman after he was released by Seattle last week. Sexson slumped badly against right-handed pitching with the Mariners, but hit .344 with five home runs in 71 at-bats against lefties this year. Thus the decision to get him into the lineup against LHP Greg Smith.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesFriday 7/18, 2:31 PM CT
Richie Sexson has officially signed with the Yankees, according to the AP. The Yankees only owe him $390,000, which is the pro-rated minimum of his $14 million salary with Seattle. The Mariners are on the hook for the remaining $6 million he is owed for the duration of the year.

Our View: The Yankees got the right-handed bat they coveted, and the slugger could benefit from a fresh start in New York. He is only hitting .218 this season overall, but belted .344 against lefties. He should push Wilson Betemit for playing time at first base, and is worth a look in larger AL-only leagues.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesThursday 7/17, 1:50 PM CT
Richie Sexson has reportedly reached a tentative agreement to play for the Yankees, according to ESPN.

Our View: The Yankees covet a right-handed hitter to match up against left-handed pitching, and Sexson fits their need as he hit .344 against lefties while a member of the Mariners this season. Jason Giambi could serve as the DH on days that Sexson starts at first base. The Yankees will only have to pay Sexson the prorated minimum of $390,000 from his $14 million salary with the Mariners. Seattle is eating the remainder of the nearly $6 million Sexson is owed for the season.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesFriday 7/11, 6:08 PM CT
New York Post reports that the Yankees have interest in Richie Sexson. "I don't know yet, we will take a look,'' Cashman said Friday about Sexson. "We will study it and see if it's something we will pursue. I think we have to look at it. I can't tell you we will (sign him) or won't. I can tell you we are interested.''

Our View: Not too long ago, Sexson was a fantasy monster. A move to a team in contention and playing in front of sold out stadiums might be what Sexson needs to re-ignite his career. We will keep close tabs on his situation.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesFriday 7/11, 10:45 AM CT
The Angels have no interest in acquiring newly released slugger Richie Sexson, according to the OC Register. Manager Mike Sciosca said, "Richie is the type of player who needs a lot of playing time. He has a powerful swing and still has the bat speed to be productive. But our feeling is that he needs to play a lot. I don't know if we have enough at-bats for him. We already have guys on the bench who need at-bats and I don't know if Richie would be a fit."

Our View: The 33-year-old Sexson only hit 11 homers over 252 at-bats with the Mariners prior to his release, along with 76 strikeouts. His home run rate wouldn't likely improve much with a move to the Angels.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesThursday 7/10, 12:59 PM CT
Richie Sexson was released by the Seattle Mariners today, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Sexson was having another terrible year, hitting .218, with 76 strikeouts in 252 at-bats. He'll likely find a home somewhere, but he should remain on fantasy league waiver wires.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesFriday 7/4, 3:08 PM CT
Richie Sexson has a good matchup tonight against Kenny Rogers. For his career, Sexson has punished Rogers for a .435 batting average and OPS of 1.349.

Our View: Amazingly, Sexson has hit .348 in his last seven games, while scoring five runs. If you have Sexson stashed on your bench in a deep AL-only league, give him a shot at first base tonight.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesWednesday 6/25, 3:00 PM CT
Speaking to wenatcheeworld.com, FSN Sports Northwest baseball analyst Bill Krueger thinks Richie Sexson will be released soon. "(Richie) Sexson — he's going to be released, probably at the end of this National League swing," he said.

Our View: This shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody, as releasing Sexson has been discussed for some time now. Not only is he only hitting just .217 (even after raising his average seven points on Tuesday), he hasn't homered since May 24.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesThursday 6/19, 9:29 AM CT
There has been news swirling that Seattle could be parting ways with Richie Sexson, but the Seattle Post-Intelligencer states that the team isn't ready to go that route as of yet. A team source said, "There's a lot of moving parts. You could see a few things happen at once, and it will depend on having some procedural things in place."

Our View: He is owed around $8 million for the rest of this season, and the Mariners would have to pay all or most of that to trade him to another team. If he's designated for assignment and clears waivers, he would likely refuse a minor league assignment and become a free agent while being paid his full salary. Sexson is hitting .220 over 205 at-bats, with 66 strikeouts and only nine homers.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesWednesday 6/18, 2:25 PM CT
The Mariners brass have been meeting following the firing of general manager Bill Bavasi, and the team could release first baseman Richie Sexson in the near future, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The Mariners own the worst record in baseball, and signs point to them beginning to look to the future. Sexson has been a disaster the last two years, and this news shouldn't be too shocking. They could go a lot of directions at first base, including moving Raul Ibanez or calling up a prospect.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesMonday 6/2, 7:42 PM CT
Richie Sexson will start on Monday against the Angels. Miguel Cairo worked at first base the previous five days, which apparently was the plan. The Seattle Times reports that Sexson and hitting coach Jeff Pentland have spent the time making major changes to the slugger's swing. "What I was thinking was, I wanted him with a fresh start," manager John McLaren explains regarding why Sexson didn't pinch-hit on Sunday. "He cleared his mind, he worked hard and tonight he's going to get that start."

Our View: We're sure Richie is going to turn into a .300 hitter after all the changes. Whatever. Fantasy owners should continue to be wary. The dude is hitting .204 since 2006.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesSunday 6/1, 2:59 PM CT
Richie Sexson is out again on Sunday, and Miguel Cairo will make his fifth straight start at first base. "We've put Cairo out there and to be honest, he's energized us," manager John McLaren explains to the Seattle Times. "He's given us great defense. He's given us a different look, gives us some speed, contact hitter and we've played pretty good. So in the situation we're in, I'm not going to change it. We're starting to play good. Again, it's about Miguel, it's not about Richie." McLaren also suggests that the move is not permanent.

Our View: We'd suggest that pitching (not the lineup) is the reason the Mariners have won three of their last four, but, hey, who are we to doubt Mr. McLaren's logic?
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesSaturday 5/31, 2:06 PM CT
Fresh off our report that rumors are swirling about the status of Seattle first baseman Richie Sexson , the team has announced Sexson will be sitting today, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: For the fourth consecutive game, the Mariners have announced Sexson will remain listed as "day-to-day" by team reports and will be replaced by Miguel Cairo in the lineup today. The team also announced Jeremy Reed will be getting the start in right field, his fourth opportunity to start since getting the call from Triple-A Tacoma.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesSaturday 5/31, 2:01 PM CT
Recent struggles and a reportedly growing cry from fans to take action has writer Geoff Baker reporting "mounting speculation" that the Mariners will seek to acquire Scott Hatteberg to replace the failing Richie Sexson , according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Sexson is struggling mightily at the plate, hitting just .205 through 121 games last season. However, to be fair, the Times notes Sexson has nine homers through 31 hits this season while his work against lefties is surprisingly solid (.333). It would make sense for the Mariners to pursue Hatteberg regardless of the situation with Sexson, a worthy role player that could help a team struggling to perform. We will update if these rumors become reality turned into action.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesWednesday 5/28, 8:41 AM CT
Richie Sexson received an off-day on Tuesday, with Miguel Cairo starting in his place. "We're just giving Cairo a chance to play and keep him in the mix, and give Richie a day off," manager John McLaren explains to the Seattle Times. "You can read into this a lot of ways. It has nothing to do with Richie hitting below .200 or anything. We're just getting a different look tonight, that's the easiest way I can put it."

Our View: We have to wonder if Sexson would get more "off" days if the Mariners had a quality backup option at first.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesFriday 5/16, 5:42 PM CT
Richie Sexson's five-game suspension is up, and he is expected to return to the Mariners' lineup tonight, according to CBSsports.com.

Our View: He has seven homers this season, but only 18 RBI over 34 games, with a dismal .202 batting average.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesSaturday 5/10, 8:00 PM CT
Seattle 1B Richie Sexson had his suspension reduced from six games to five following an official league appeal, according to TSN.ca.

Our View: Sexson was handed the suspension after charging the mound to attack pitcher Kason Gabbard in Thursday's game against the Texas Rangers. Both benches cleared, no punches were thrown, but Sexson as suspended. He will begin serving that suspensions immediately and will be available to return as the Mariners begin a three-game set against the San Diego Padres on Friday.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesFriday 5/9, 7:01 PM CT
Although Richie Sexson received a six-game suspension for instigating the fight on Thursday night, the M's have him in the starting lineup against the White Sox and batting sixth.

Our View: Sexson ask the players union to appeal the suspension so he remains availalble to play until there is some resolution. .
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesFriday 5/9, 3:51 PM CT
Richie Sexson has been suspended for six games by the MLB, according to the AP. He charged the mound and threw his helmet at Rangers' pitcher Kason Gabbard the previous night. The incident happened after the left-hander threw an eye-high pitch to Sexson in the fourth inning of Seattle’s 5-0 loss. Bob Watson, baseball’s vice president in charge of discipline, cited Sexson for "violent and aggressive actions."

Our View: Sexson asked the players’ association to appeal, and any suspension will be delayed until after a hearing.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesThursday 5/8, 11:59 PM CT
Richie Sexson, who sat out last night due to personal reasons, was ejected on Thursday after charging the mound because of an up and in fastball, according to the Miami Herald. Felix Hernandez hit Ian Kinlser after he hit an earlier home run, and in the bottom of the inning when Keith Gabbard game up and in, Sexson charged the mound, threw his helmet and was the only player ejected.

Our View: Sexson has had a rough couple of days. Maybe he can channel the turmoil into some production on the ball field cause we all know he could certainly use it.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesWednesday 5/7, 11:30 PM CT
Richie Sexson was not in the lineup on Wednesday night due to "personal reasons", according to the Associated Press. No further details are available.

Our View: Sexon, who is slowly starting to find his stroke, is still batting .209 on the year giving him a .206 average over his last 549 AB.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesMonday 5/5, 11:45 PM CT
Richie Sexson hit his seventh home run of the season in the Mariners 7-3 over the Texas Rangers on Monday night.

Our View: Sexson's home runs are the only thing keeping him in the starting lineup. His .216 average and 34 strikeouts in 111 at-bats are dismal.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesFriday 5/2, 12:31 PM CT
According to the Seattle Times, there was an ice bucket filled with beer in Richie Sexson's locker at Progressive Field after Thursday's game in Cleveland. There was a paper sign attached congratulating him on 300 career home runs.

Our View: Unfortunately, the report noted that not many were in the mood to celebrate after the M's took a heart breaking loss to the Indians. The Mariners took the lead on Sexson's milestone homer in the 10th inning, but J.J. Putz couldn't hold the lead in the bottom half of the inning allowing Cleveland to claim a 3-2 victory in the 11th inning.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesThursday 5/1, 10:44 PM CT
Richie Sexson hit his sixth home run of the season on on Thursday night though his average is still languishing at .230.

Our View: Sexson has 17 RBI in the early going, though again, that average is a real drain. Still he does have hits in six straight games, so hope for Sexson to return to a more usable .260 average versus the pathetic .205 that he posted last season.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesFriday 4/18, 11:48 PM CT
Richie Sexson had his best game of the season on Friday night with two hits, two runs and four RBI for the Mariners. Both hits were home runs.

Our View: Sexson is still struggling along at .237, but this outing doubled his home run total to four and pushed his RBI mark up to 13.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesFriday 4/18, 7:44 AM CT
Richie Sexson did not play on Thursday due to leg and shoulder pain. He could also sit on Friday. "Richie's had a sore leg, a sore shoulder," manager John McLaren tells the Seattle Times. "I wanted to calm things down a bit." Greg Norton started in his place.

Our View: Sexson usually doesn't miss many games, so it wouldn't be surprising if he was back on Friday. Fantasy owners with daily transactions may want to play it safe, though.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesMonday 4/7, 12:48 PM CT
The Mariners will drop Richie Sexson from fourth to sixth in the lineup on Monday. Adrian Beltre will hit fourth, and Brad Wilkerson will hit fifth, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer notes. Manager John McLaren has not given a reason for the move, but it's not a good sign for Sexson's fantasy owners.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesSunday 3/23, 12:53 PM CT
Richie Sexson has shoulder bursitis, according to the Seattle Times. He received an injection for the ailment, and the team does not believe it is serious. Sexson notably leads the Mariners with 15 strikeouts.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesThursday 3/20, 8:55 AM CT
Richie Sexson had a tough day at the plate against Arizona on Wednesday as he went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts, while leaving three men on base. He has two home runs this spring, but leads the team with 14 strikeouts.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesSaturday 9/29, 7:44 AM CT
Richie Sexson is done playing this season, as the Mariners plan to hold him out of the final games. "I think we're just going to let him rest over the offseason," Mariners manager John McLaren told the Seattle Times. A hamstring has sidelined him for 20 of the past 24 games, and he'll end his awful season with a .205 batting average and 21 homers.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesMonday 9/17, 11:42 AM CT
Richie Sexson has now missed 14 of the last 15 games with a left hamstring injury. Manager John McClaren isn't sure whether Sexson will play again this season, although the slugger would like to play in the final week, according to the Seattle Times. "He's had a rough year," McLaren said. "We certainly don't want him to rush back and reinjure himself. He has nothing to prove there. The main thing for him to do is get in good shape in the offseason, come out next year and put this year behind him." Because of his rough year, Sexson could be a low-risk, high-reward fantasy investment next season.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesThursday 9/13, 11:59 AM CT
Richie Sexson's left hamstring injury will keep him sidelined for at least another 10 days or so, and it's possible, maybe even likely, that he won't return at all this season, according to the Seattle Times. "He's not going to be back any time soon," manager John McLaren said. "He's going to be out for a while. I can't give you an exact date, but he's going to be out for a week, maybe longer." Even if Sexson does return this year, it would be for only a couple of games, which means there's really no reason to hold onto him.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesTuesday 9/11, 11:36 AM CT
Richie Sexson will have an MRI today on his ailing left hamstring, according to the Seattle Times. We'll know more about the injury after we see the test results, but it doesn't appear as though he'll be returning to the lineup anytime soon.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesSunday 9/9, 10:17 PM CT
Richie Sexson was unable to complete Sunday's game due to his nagging hamstring injury. More about his condition should be known after he's further examined on Monday, but it's likely that he won't be back in the lineup anytime soon.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesSaturday 9/8, 11:59 PM CT
Richie Sexson was back in the lineup Saturday after missing seven games with a sore left hamstring, according to the AP. His return to the lineup was uneventful, as he went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout. Healthy or not, Sexson is only worth using in AL-only play.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesSunday 9/2, 6:11 AM CT
Richie Sexson (left hamstring) is still sore and is likely to miss at least four more games, the AP reports. "It's going to be a while," said manager John McLaren, adding that Sexson is "very iffy" for a three-game series against the Yankees that begins Monday. "That might be pushing it."
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesFriday 8/31, 10:43 PM CT
Richie Sexson, who is sidelined with a tight left hamstring, did not start Friday and is out indefinitely, according to the AP. "We're going to have to shut him down for a while and get him strong," manager John McLaren said.

Our View: Ben Broussard started in Sexson's place Friday and is expected to get the bulk of the playing time while Sexson is out.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesFriday 8/31, 12:24 PM CT
Richie Sexson could miss the weekend series in Toronto due to a hamstring injury he suffered on Thursday. Sexson has apparently been bothered by the hamstring for awhile but has attempted to play through the pain, according to the Seattle Times. Ben Broussard will play first while Sexson is out.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesThursday 8/30, 8:02 PM CT
Richie Sexson had to exit Thursday's game due to a tight left hamstring. He appeared to sustain the injury during his at-bat in the fifth inning, according to the AP. At this point, the Mariners consider him to be day-to-day. Considering that he's hitting just .208 this season, the last thing he needs is a hamstring issue. We should know more about his status for the rest of the week after he's examined further Friday.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesMonday 8/6, 10:15 AM CT
Richie Sexson has been on the bench for the last three games against right-handed pitchers, and that trend will continue for now. Sexson went 2-for-25 on the Mariners' recent homestand and is hitting only .196 on the year. "I like Richie a lot," manager John McLaren told the Seattle Times. "He's working hard. We're giving Ben more playing time and I've assured Richie that when he gets going, he'll be back in there again full-time. There are not many guys, but he's one of the guys that when he gets going, he can carry us."
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesSunday 8/5, 9:38 PM CT
Richie Sexson, who is hitting a measly .196 on the year, was benched for the second straight day on Sunday, according to the AP. Manager John McLaren stated recently that Sexson would be seeing less playing time, so owners should probably expect more of this in the future.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesThursday 8/2, 10:12 AM CT
Manager John McLaren won't say that he's putting Richie Sexson into a platoon with Ben Broussard at first base, but that does appear to be the case, according to the Seattle Times. McLaren, who stated that the slugger would have to work his way back into the daily lineup, also stated, "You know what, I'm not going to say Richie's a platoon player by any stretch of the imagination," McLaren said. "It's been four months and he needs to get going. He's working hard. We keep thinking today's going to be the day. We hope — he plays Friday — that Friday's going to be the day he turns it around." Sexson is hitting just .198 on the season and is batting .095 over the past week.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesThursday 7/19, 12:07 AM CT
Richie Sexson went 0-for-3 with a walk Wednesday, dropping his average to .199. You have to wonder if Sexson is still battling a sore thumb, though his struggles in 2007 go deeper than that.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesTuesday 7/3, 10:19 AM CT
Richie Sexson bruised his left thumb while fielding a grounder in the bottom of the ninth Monday. X-rays on the thumb were negative, but Sexson appears unlikely to play tonight and could sit out a few games, according to the Seattle Times.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesMonday 5/21, 9:33 PM CT
Richie Sexson, who entered Monday in an 0-for-15 slump, was back in the lineup after not playing Saturday and Sunday, according to the AP. He was 4-for-27 on the Mariners' recent homestand. "He's been working in the cages the last couple of days and he's swinging better," manager Mike Hargrove said.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesMonday 5/21, 12:38 PM CT
The Mariners chose to rest Richie Sexson again on Sunday for the second straight game. Sexson is in the middle of an 0-for-15 slump and is hitting just .162 on the year. Manager Mike Hargrove said the hostile reception Sexson has been receiving at home played into his decision to rest the slugger. "I think that has some merit," Hargrove said in the Seattle Times. "I think the biggest thing with Richie is giving him some time to regroup mentally. A lot of times when something like this goes on this long, it's a real mental drag more than anything else. We're trying to give him a break in that regard."
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesSunday 5/20, 1:43 AM CT
Richie Sexson was rested Saturday and might get a few more days off to clear his head, according to the Seattle Times. Ben Broussard had two hits Saturday in Sexson's place.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesThursday 5/10, 12:18 PM CT

Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesWednesday 8/16, 9:07 PM CT

Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesTuesday 8/15, 8:52 AM CT
It's unknown how long Richie Sexson will be on the bereavement list, but it's possible that he could rejoin the Mariners for the start of a four-game series against the Angels on Thursday, according to the LA Times. Sexson flew home to be with his wife, who delivered twins by emergency C-section.
Richie Sexson, 1B, New York YankeesTuesday 8/15, 12:11 AM CT
