Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 11/13, 12:15 PM CT
The Brewers have declined Braden Looper's $6.5 million 2010 team option, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Our View: They will instead pay him a $1 million buyout. Looper went 14-7 in 34 starts for the Brewers last season, but posted a 5.22 ERA and 1.49 WHIP, and allowed a garish 39 home runs, the most in the majors. Expect him to sign a very cheap one year deal with a National League club.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 10/13, 5:27 PM CT
Braden Looper underwent surgery Tuesday to repair the meniscus in his right knee, according to beat writer Adam McCalvey's twitter page.

Our View: The Brewers called his surgery routine. Looper claimed 14 wins this season, but it is uncertain if the team will exercise his $6MM option for 2010.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 10/3, 11:23 AM CT
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Tom Haudricourt reports that Braden Looper pitched most, if not all, of the 2009 season with a torn meniscus in his right knee. He's going to have it "cleaned up" this offseason.

Our View: This would at least partly explain his semi-dreadful 2009 performance. In 34 starts, he went 14-7 with a 5.22 ERA and 1.49 WHIP. Expect similar statistics in 2010.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 10/2, 11:36 PM CT
Braden Looper gave up six earned runs on 10 hits over six innings in Friday's 12-6 win at St. Louis. He had two walks with three strikeouts.

Our View: Looper did not pitch well, but the Brew Crew scored enough runs for him to claim a win against his former club. He has a 5.22 ERA, but leads Milwaukee with 14 wins.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 9/26, 10:51 PM CT
Braden Looper allowed five runs on Saturday, but just three were earned, and he kept the Brewers in the game for a chance to win. After six innings of work where he allowed seven hits and a walk, the Brewers did win on a Ryan Braun homer in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Phillies 7-5.

Our View: Looper has been bad lately, so it's good to see him earn a quality start, even if his defense did let him down. He had allowed 12 runs in his previous nine innings before Saturday's start.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 9/21, 10:57 PM CT
Braden Looper was rocked for seven earned runs on 10 hits over four innings in Monday's 10-2 loss to the Cubs at Miller Park. He had no walks with two strikeouts.

Our View: Looper had his two-game winning streak snapped, and suffered his first loss since August 11. He allowed twelve earned runs over his last two starts.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 9/16, 10:34 PM CT
Braden Looper was far from perfect on Wednesday night, allowing nine hits and five runs in five innings, but still managed to pick up his career best 13th win, as Milwaukee beat the Cubs 9-5 at Wrigley Field.

Our View: His ERA is now an ugly 4.89 despite his career high 13 wins. Looper having 13 Ws while Tim Lincecum has just 14 probably says a lot about the statistic.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 9/11, 11:39 PM CT
Braden Looper gave up three earned runs on eight hits over 5.2 innings in Friday's 6-3 win at Arizona. He had one walk with three strikeouts.

Our View: Looper earned his 12th win, tying him for the team lead with Yovani Gallardo. He also tied his season-high of 2007 and 2008 with the Cardinals. He was winless over his previous three starts.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 9/6, 6:02 PM CT
Braden Looper pitched seven solid innings of one-run ball on Sunday, but took a no-decision, as the Brewers beat the Giants 2-1 in 12 innings.

Our View: Looper has somewhat turned his season around in his past four starts, lowering his ERA from 5.03 to 4.77, while pitching three quality games in the process.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 8/26, 11:09 PM CT
Braden Looper tossed his second straight quality start on Wednesday, keeping the Brewers in a game they would eventually lose 4-3 to the Reds in ten innings.

Our View: Looper, still sporting an ugly 4.88 ERA, is for NL-only league eyes only.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 8/21, 9:13 PM CT
Braden Looper had a quality outing against the Nationals on Friday. He allowed just two runs on four hits and a pair of walks over six innings in the Brewers' 7-3 win.

Our View: Despite his high ERA (4.95), Looper is 11-6 this season after Friday's win. That just goes to show what a potent offense can do for a starter's record.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 8/16, 7:00 PM CT
Braden Looper gave up four runs on four hits and two walks over six innings in the Brewers' 8-5 loss on Sunday. He did not record a strikeout, but was not saddled with the loss.

Our View: Looper has only recorded three quality starts over his last nine appearances and has an ERA over 5.00 this season. He's best left off your fantasy roster.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 8/11, 11:08 PM CT
Braden Looper got torched on Tuesday night, giving up 11 hits and seven runs in five innings, as the Padres crushed the Brewers 13-6 in Milwaukee.

Our View: Looper continued his good cop/bad cop routine on Tuesday, getting hammered after a solid outing. After giving up two home runs in the game, he has now allowed an NL-leading 29.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 8/6, 12:14 AM CT
Braden Looper pitched 6.2 effective innings of one-run ball on Wednesday to earn his tenth win. The Brewers defeated the Dodgers 4-1 in L.A.

Our View: Looper's WHIP and ERA are now a symmetrical 1.42 and 4.84 respectively. Make of that what you will.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 7/26, 5:22 PM CT
Braden Looper fell to 9-5 on Sunday, allowing five earned runs in six innings of a 10-2 Milwaukee loss.

Our View: He was coming off his beat start of the season, a seven inning, no runs performance against the Pirates last week. His ERA now stands at 4.79, while his WHIP is an ugly 1.42.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 7/21, 8:53 PM CT
Braden Looper pitched seven highly effective innings on Tuesday, allowing just four hits and no runs, as Milwaukee beat the Pirates 2-0 in Pittsburgh.

Our View: Looper quietly has nine wins on the season now. There are worse spot-starting choices out there.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 7/16, 9:49 PM CT
Braden Looper won his eighth game of the season on Thursday, as the Brewers beat the Reds 9-6 on the road.

Our View: Looper's ERA still stands at 4.94, however, and he isn't a great option outside of NL-only leagues and spot-starting in mixed leagues.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 7/10, 10:59 PM CT
Braden Looper was roughed up for five earned runs on five hits over six innings in Friday's 12-8 loss to the Dodgers at Miller Park. He had one walk and two strikeouts, and was tagged for four homers.

Our View: The game went 10 innings, and Looper was handed a no-decision for his weak performance. He only gave up three total earned runs over his previous two starts, and should be able to bounce back fine.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 7/4, 3:13 PM CT
Braden Looper notched his seventh win of the season on Saturday as the Brewers demolished the Cubs 11-2. Looper went six innings and allowed two runs on six hits while walking three and striking out three.

Our View: Looper pitched well today, but it always helps when your team gives you 11 runs of support. 7-4 is about what you would expect from a guy like Looper, as he isn't flashy but he eats innings and gets the job done.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 6/29, 9:34 PM CT
Braden Looper issued three runs (only one earned) on seven hits over 6.1 innings in Monday's 10-6 win over the Mets at Miller Park. He had two walks and two strikeouts.

Our View: Looper ended a five-game skid without collecting a win, and closes out June on a high note with a solid performance. He is worth employing in fantasy lineups for his next turn in the Brewers' rotation.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 6/25, 2:42 PM CT
MLB.com is reporting that Brewers' starter Braden Looper is not expected to miss his next scheduled start after being hit on the back of his right arm with a line drive on Wednesday. Looper reported only soreness on Thursday when examined by team doctors.

Our View: Nothing to worry about here with Looper, as he should be fine when his turn in the rotation comes back around. He hasn't won a decision in the month of June, so any Looper owners out there may want to consider another option.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 6/24, 11:35 PM CT
Braden Looper gave up three earned runs on five hits over six innings in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Twins at Miller Park. He issued four walks with four strikeouts.

Our View: Looper takes a no-decision, and remains winless over five starts in June, with a poor 7.18 ERA. He will remain an unstable fantasy option for his next trip to the hill.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 6/19, 11:41 PM CT
Braden Looper was roughed up for seven earned runs on eight hits over 3.2 innings in Friday's 10-4 loss at Detroit. He had no walks, four strikeouts and gave up three homers. The game was called after seven innings due to rain.

Our View: Looper has allowed four or more earned runs in three of four starts in June, and has not earned a win since May 29 against the Reds. He should only be considered in NL-only leagues for his next trip to the mound.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 6/14, 7:30 PM CT
Braden Looper did not factor into the decision on Sunday as the Brewers fell to the White Sox 5-4. Looper went six innings and allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out two.

Our View: Looper wasn't terrible today, but he wasn't great either. He is just an average pitcher, and his fantasy value is probably limited to NL-only leagues or deeper mixed legues.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 6/9, 11:55 PM CT
Braden Looper allowed two earned runs on seven hits over six innings in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Rockies at Miller Park. He issued no walks and fired seven strikeouts.

Our View: It was a good outing for Looper, but he was forced to take a no-decision as his teammates did not provide enough offensive support to win. He has only taken one loss over his last six outings.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 5/29, 11:06 PM CT
Braden Looper was very effective on Friday as he allowed just two runs on two hits and two walks oevr seven innings. He struck out four and improved to 5-3 as the Brewers topped the Reds 3-2.

Our View: Looper has been up and down this season, but has been on the winning end for the most part. He has a 4.24 ERA and is not a great fantasy pitcher, but is giving the Brewers exactly what they expected of him when they signed him this offseason.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 5/18, 10:41 PM CT
Braden Looper pitched very well on Monday as the Brewers defeated the Cardinals 8-4. Looper went six innings and allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits while walking two.

Our View: Looper pitched poorly in his last outing, but he was excellent tonight against his old team. He isn't a big strikeout pitcher, but when he is on outings like tonight aren't all that rare.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 5/7, 9:41 PM CT
Braden Looper was pummeled by the Reds on Thursday, lasting only 3.1 innings. He gave up five runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out two.

Our View: Looper has been decent for the Brewers this season, but he was bad tonight. It is a concern that he got hit hard by a Reds team that was without Votto and Phillips, but he should be ok going forward.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 5/2, 8:49 PM CT
Braden Looper surrendered four earned runs on six hits over seven innings in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Diamondbacks at Miller Park. He had no walks with three strikeouts.

Our View: Looper was dealt his first loss over five starts with the Brewers. The 34-year-old vet should bounce back fine.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 4/22, 8:53 PM CT
Braden Looper threw six shutout innings as the Brewers won 3-1 in Philadelphia on Wednesday. He allowed five hits and two walks, as he failed to register a strikeout.

Our View: The 34-year-old has looked solid in the early going, but his fantasy value remains limited. Even when he is pitching well, he allows a lot of base runners. He is 2-0 with a 2.12 ERA and 1.35 WHIP through three starts.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 4/10, 6:43 PM CT
Braden Looper was a bit shaky in his first start with his new team, but worked his way out of jams. In five innings he allowed five hits and four walks, but just one run. He struck out four and earned a no decision as the Brewers won in walk-off fashion in the ninth.

Our View: Looper's WHIP was exceptionally high, but his strikeouts and ERA were a nice gift for fantasy owners. Expect the WHIP to decrease as the season progresses, but the K-rate will dive and the ERA will most certainly go up. He should be no more than a late NL-only option.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 3/26, 7:08 PM CT
Braden Looper was knocked around on Thursday, allowing six runs and seven hits over just two innings. Somehow, he didn't get the loss.

Our View: Looper is going to be counted on to eat a lot of innings this season for the pitching starved Brewers. They have to be grumbling in the front office after this start. Looper is not worth a look anywhere other than very deep NL-only leagues.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 3/16, 8:08 PM CT
Braden Looper threw 30 pitches over two innings of a simulated game on Monday and reported no problems afterward, according to MLB.com. He had been dealing with a strained oblique.

Our View: Looper is expected to be a workhorse for the Brewers this season. Don't expect much improvement from his 2008 season, in which the 34-year-old was very average.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 3/11, 1:17 PM CT
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that Braden Looper felt no pain or discomfort in Wednesday's bullpen session. He is expected to be ready for the start of the season.

Our View: The strained oblique doesn't seem to be bothering Looper and he looks like he'll be ready to join the Brewers' rotation. He's an option for deeper NL-only leagues.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 3/9, 12:11 PM CT
Braden Looper, who is recovering from a stained oblique muscle, is slated to throw a bullpen session Wednesday, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Our View: Looper will need to throw a few bullpen sessions before being deemed fit for game action, but still has time to be ready for the start of the season.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 3/3, 4:33 PM CT
Braden Looper will miss his second-straight spring start, be shut down for at least the next 10 to 12 days and could be in danger of opening the season on the DL due to a strained oblique muscle on the left side of his lower back, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Looper was brought in by the Brewers to provide stability at the end of their starting rotation, though it looks like they may have to wait a bit longer than expected to see him in action. Still, Looper may be ready by the beginning of the season and can still provide for a nice, stable late-round selection in NL-only leagues.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 2/28, 3:18 PM CT
Braden Looper has been scratched from Saturday's game due to tightness in an oblique muscle, according to MLB.com. He was expected to throw around 35 pitches today.

Our View: It is uncertain how much time he may need to miss. He was signed by the Brewers due to his solid track record with durability.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 2/11, 10:34 AM CT
Braden Looper's deal with the Brewers is for one year at $4.75 million, with a mutual option for 2010, according to Brewers.com.

Our View: The deal is not official until Looper passes a physical, but there is no reason to think he won't. He joins another former Cardinal, Jeff Suppan, in what is a far different rotation for the team than they had last year.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 2/9, 8:11 PM CT
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that Braden Looper signed a one-year deal, with and option, to join the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday. The deal is pending a physical.

Our View: Looper helps fill a big hole in the Brewers rotation. He has thrown 374 innings over the past two seasons, but never threw 100 innings in any of his previous nine. He is regarded as an innings eater and his numbers are not strong enough to warrant much fantasy consideration.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 2/9, 1:09 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel states that the Brewers are going to ink Braden Looper.

Our View: Adding Looper will help ease the losses of CC Sabathia and Ben Sheets to their rotation. Looper would also help keep the bullpen fresh, as he would be a good bet to pitch 200 innings.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 2/9, 11:22 AM CT
The Brewers have reportedly changed their mind and could now pursue Braden Looper again, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. The two sides could be working on a deal right now.

Our View: Looper would challenge 200 innings with the Brewers, and held a 1.31 WHIP with St. Louis in 2008. He prefers to remain in the NL, and Milwaukee would be a good fit as the Dodgers are no longer interested after signing Randy Wolf.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 2/5, 7:00 AM CT
The Rockies have not reopened talks with Braden Looper, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: The Orioles are still interested in Looper, but he prefers to remain in the NL. Looper is believed to be a backup plan for the Dodgers if they do not ink Randy Wolf, and the Pirates are also known to have interest in the innings-eater.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 2/4, 9:19 AM CT
The Orioles are still interested in Braden Looper but he prefers to remain in the NL, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Our View: Looper is believed to be a backup plan for the Dodgers in case they do no land Randy Wolf. The Pirates are also known to have interest in Looper.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 2/2, 3:33 PM CT
Braden Looper is believed to be the Dodgers' backup plan if they do not reel in Randy Wolf, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Our View: Looper, like Wolf, would be a solid innings-eater for the Dodgers, which would help keep their bullpen healthy.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 1/31, 1:27 PM CT
The Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles could be interested in free-agent right-hander Braden Looper.

Our View: Looper is nothing more than innings filler. He isn't to be owned except in NL-only leagues. He'd make a fine No. 4 or 5 starter for some club, but that's his limit.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 1/30, 9:13 AM CT
The Rockies have decided to pass on Braden Looper, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: He would be a solid innings-eater for Colorado, but he is out of their price range. The Orioles continue to talk to his rep, and the Pirates, Brewers and Dodgers are also known to be interested.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 1/28, 10:55 PM CT
The Orioles continued talks with the representatives of Braden Looper on Wednesday, according to the Baltimore Sun. The team still needs at least one more pitcher to fill out their rotation.

Our View: Looper logged a career-high 199 innings last season for the Cardinals. The Pirates, Brewers, and Dodgers have also expressed some interest in the pitcher.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 1/28, 6:03 PM CT
SI.com suggests that the Brewers make the most sense for free-agent pitcher Braden Looper.

Our View: The Pirates and Dodgers have also been mentioned as possible destinations for Looper. He went 12-14 in 33 starts for the Cardinals last season.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 1/28, 12:05 PM CT
Bruce Levine of ESPN Radio indicates Braden Looper is on the Cubs' radar as an option if trade talks do not resume with the Padres' Jake Peavy.

Our View: Looper is a solid innings-eater, but allowed 25 homers with St. Louis last season and would not be helped by playing his home games at Wrigley Field, namely on days when the wind is blowing out. The Cubs acquired Aaron Heilman from the Mariners today as well, and he may be given a chance to compete for the No. 5 spot in the rotation before being placed in the bullpen.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 1/26, 8:14 AM CT
Braden Looper is reportedly on the Pirates' radar, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: The Pirates need a stable veteran starter in their rotation, namely to mentor their younger hurlers, and Looper would be a solid addition. He would challenge 200 innings, which would also benefit their bullpen.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 1/23, 4:15 PM CT
According to Jayson Stark of ESPN, the Dodgers are expressing interest in free-agent hurler Braden Looper and could sign him to a contract within the next few days. Los Angeles is narrowing down its choices between Looper, Jon Garland, and left-hander Randy Wolf.

Our View: Contrary to reports that claim the Dodgers would prefer to sign Wolf, sources said Looper and Garland rank just as highly on the list. Though his stuff is not as good as Garland's, Looper provides innings and is a solid choice for a No. 4 or No. 5 starter.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 1/22, 7:27 AM CT
The Diamondbacks are expected to offer Braden Looper a deal, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View: Jon Garland and Randy Wolf have already turned down offers to join Arizona, and the club is keeping tabs on Jason Jennings in case Looper does the same. Looper would be a solid innings-eater for Arizona, and would help keep their bullpen healthy.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 1/16, 9:18 AM CT
The Dodgers and Orioles have backed off their pursuit of Braden Looper, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Our View: The Brewers and a few other teams remain interested in Looper. He would be a solid addition for a club looking for an innings-eater, as he pitched 199 with St. Louis in 2008, while maintaining a decent 1.31 WHIP.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 1/6, 7:12 AM CT
Braden Looper is on the Dodgers' radar, according to Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports.

Our View: The club also still likes Randy Wolf and Jon Garland. The rotation needs to replace Brad Penny and likely Derek Lowe.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 12/31, 9:45 AM CT
The Orioles remain interested in pitcher Braden Looper, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: Looper covets a three-year deal worth around $7 million or $8 million per year, and his price tag would have to come down for the Orioles to ink him.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 12/23, 7:03 PM CT
Talks between Brewers GM Doug Melvin and free agent pitcher Braden Looper have not risen to a serious level, according to the Brewers' official site.

Our View: The Brewers are still trying to replace CC Sabathia who signed with the Yankees and Ben Sheets who declined their arbitration offer, so they have two holes to fill in their rotation.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 12/21, 5:25 PM CT
General manager Doug Melvin denies reports that the Brewers are close to signing free agent pitcher Braden Looper, but he does concede that the club is interested. "I talked to his agent a few days ago but I haven't done anything over the weekend," Melvin tells the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "I'll probably make another call in the next day or two."

Our View: The Brewers are in need of starting hurlers after losing CC Sabathia to free agency and seemingly not being interested in re-signing Ben Sheets. Melvin is a man, so calling in "the next day or two" really means four or five days. Are we right, ladies?
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 12/21, 1:17 PM CT
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports indicates that the Orioles are making a strong run at free agent hurler Braden Looper.

Our View: The Orioles better hurry, as it was previously speculated that Looper is close to signing with the Brewers. The Orioles are pursuing Tim Redding as well, in case they cannot reel in Looper.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 12/21, 8:51 AM CT
The Boston Globe indicates that Braden Looper is close to inking a deal with the Brewers.

Our View: Looper would be a favorable addition for the Brewers as they attempt to replace CC Sabathia and likely Ben Sheets in the rotation. Looper held a decent 1.31 WHIP over 199 innings of work in 2008.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 12/20, 11:29 AM CT
The Rockies could pursue hurler Braden Looper, according to FOX Sports.

Our View: The team also likes Tim Redding and is considering trading for Cubs' pitcher Jason Marquis. Looper went 12-14 with the Cardinals last season, but pitched 199 innings and held a decent 1.31 WHIP. He would be a favorable upgrade for a Rockies' rotation in need of help.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 12/6, 6:09 PM CT
The Orioles have shown interest in free agent hurler Braden Looper, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: Looper went 12-14 with the Cardinals in 2008 but his 1.31 WHIP wasn't bad, and he nearly pitched 200 innings. The Orioles are in grave need of starting pitchers, and Looper would be viewed as a solid addition.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 12/1, 6:38 PM CT
The Cardinals will not offer arbitration to starter Braden Looper, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Looper was 12-14 in his second year of starting and compiled an ERA of 4.16. Now that the Cardinals have not offered him arbitration any team will be able to sign him without loosing a draft pick.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 10/31, 7:25 AM CT
Braden Looper has filed for free agency, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: The Cardinals' interest in any starting pitcher, including Looper, will depend on the health of Chris Carpenter. The Cardinals have five starters under contract already.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 10/7, 2:01 PM CT
Starter Braden Looper is unlikely to return to the Cardinals this offseason when he becomes a free agent, according to StLCardinals.com.

Our View: Looper had a decent season, winning 12 games and posting an ERA of 4.16 along with a WHIP of 1.31. He got better as the season went along, and with starting pitching at a premium as always, he should obtain a tidy sum by a pitching-starved team this winter.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 9/26, 10:23 PM CT
Braden Looper allowed four earned runs on seven hits over seven innings in Friday's 7-6 win over the Reds, with one walk and six strikeouts.

Our View: He was dealt a no decision, and ended September with an 0-3 mark over five starts. He has allowed four earned runs in three straight outings.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 9/21, 6:32 PM CT
Braden Looper's record fell to 12-14 on Sunday as he lost to the Cubs after allowing four runs on nine hits and a walk in six innings of work.

Our View: Looper hasn't been as bad as the record looks, but the truth of the matter is that his stuff just isn't likely to lead to a performance much better than what we have seen this year. His only real value is in NL-only leagues where you can live with a starter who has only 100 K in 192 IP.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 9/10, 10:57 PM CT
Braden Looper fell to 12-12 on the year as he allowed four runs in five innings against the Cubs. Only one of the runs was earned.

Our View: This guy just can't seem to catch a break. Over his last 10 starts he has allowed two or fewer earned runs eight times, yet he has only a 3-4 record to show for it. He is pitching better than his record would indicate, but he still makes nothing more than an average starter because of a complete lack of punchouts (91 on the year).
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 9/5, 10:51 PM CT
Braden Looper threw 7.1 shutout innings against the Marlins on Friday but the save was blown in the ninth. He walked none, gave up four hits and struck out six.

Our View: This was great news for Looper who was coming off his worst outing of the season against Houston last week when he gave up 11 hits and eight runs in 4.1 innings.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 8/24, 11:36 AM CT
Cardinals RHP Braden Looper can equal last season's personal-best win total today when St. Louis hosts the Atlanta Braves in the finale of a three-game series at Turner Field, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: A 33-year-old Oklahoman, Looper was a full-time reliever for his initial 572 appearances in the major leagues through 2006 before become a full-time starter in 2007 and going 12-12 with a 4.94 earned run average. He picked up win No. 11 this season on August 13th in Florida, allowing five hits and an earned run over seven innings of a 6-4 defeat of the Marlins. He is 5-3 with eight saves in 55 career appearances - two starts - against the Braves.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 8/19, 10:41 PM CT
The Cardinals suffered the loss, 4-1 versus Pittsburgh, but the blame can't be put on starter Braden Looper, pitching seven innings to allow just one run on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Our View: Looper has managed just two wins since June 29th, giving up multiple homers in five of those 10 games. Tonight he failed to surrender a single one, but his offense coudn't get runs on the board.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 8/19, 3:24 PM CT
Braden Looper will make the start for the Cardinals tonight against the Pirates, and he has a good track record against players on Pittsburgh's current roster. Combined, those players are hitting just .197 off of Looper in 66 at-bats. No one on the team with more than 10 at-bats against Looper is hitting better than .182.

Our View: In his last five starts, Looper has just a 2-2 record, but he has not given up more than two earned runs in any of them, and his ERA during that time is 2.18. He does not put up great strikeout totals, but he certainly has value in fantasy leagues, especially NL-only leagues.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 8/8, 5:02 PM CT
Braden Looper held the Cubs to just two runs on Friday as he went seven strong innings allowing just one walk and six hits.

Our View: This makes 4-straight starts of two or fewer earned runs allowed for Looper, after a rough stretch of 10 runs in nine innings over two starts in mid July. Looper continues to function quite well as a back of the rotation option.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 7/28, 10:29 PM CT
Braden Looper gave the Cardinals seven strong innings on Monday night to earn his ninth win of the season. He allowed two runs on seven hits and no walks.

Our View: He had been 0-3 with a 5.55 ERA in his last five starts, so the solid outing was a relief to followers of Looper.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 7/27, 9:47 PM CT
Braden Looper (9-8, 4.49 ERA) will start on Monday against the Braves. He is 0-3 with a 5.55 ERA in his last five starts. He was a hard-luck loser in his latest outing, when he allowed a run over five innings against the Brewers on Wednesday in a 3-0 loss. Looper was battered in his lone start at Turner Field. He gave up seven runs and 10 hits in 2 2-3 innings in a 14-6 Cardinals’ loss on July 21, 2007.

Our View: Looper has gone past six innings just five times in 21 starts this season. However the Cardinals bullpen has been drained over the past two days so he will have to go deep on Monday. In his favor, the braves will likely be without Chipper Jones and Brian McCann due to injuries.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 7/23, 10:26 PM CT
Braden Looper allowed just one run over five innings but he still lost his eighth game of the year for the Cardinals. Looper allowed seven hits while striking out four on the night.

Our View: Looper is the quintessential innings eater that is more valuable in real life than in the fantasy game. At 9-8 record a 4.49 ERA, you couldn't dream up a guy who was more average.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 7/18, 11:01 PM CT
It was a tough night for Braden Looper, who only went three innings, allowing six earned runs on eight hits, though the Cardinals eventually pulled out an 11-7 victory over San Diego.

Our View: Looper's ERA skyrocketed from 4.25 to 4.60. He had lost he previous two starts and has given up 12 earned runs in his last 16 inning pitched. His lack of strikeouts and uneven performances make him a dangerous option for fantasy players.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 7/10, 3:15 PM CT
Braden Looper pitched six innings, allowing four earned runs in the Cardinals 4-1 loss to the Phillies.

Our View: Looper has been average this season, even though he has nine wins. He has given up seven home runs in his last four outings, covering 22.1 innings.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 7/4, 10:27 PM CT
Braden Looper only allowed two earned runs on six hits over seven innings in Friday's close 2-1 loss to the Cubs, with one walk and five strikeouts.

Our View: He pitched very well, despite being dealt his sixth loss of the season. He will have to wait for his next outing to challenge for his 10th win.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 6/24, 10:18 PM CT
The Cardinals found another win against the Detroit Tigers this evening, polishing their interleague foe off with a convincing 8-4 final. The mound was covered by RHP Braden Looper , going six innings to allow four runs (all earned) one seven hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

Our View: The bulk of the damage done by Detroit came on three homers surrendered by Looper, the first homers he has allowed since May 27th. He now stands at 3-1 for June with four walks and 15 strikeouts.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 6/18, 10:04 PM CT
The Cardinals came up short in the 3-2 loss to the Royals this evening, but RHP Braden Looper did what he could to reverse their fortunes. Looper pitched seven innings to allow just one run on five hits with no walks and no strikeouts.

Our View: Looper walked with no decision and now carries a record of 8-5 with a 4.10 ERA, having allowed just six earned runs through four starts this month.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 6/17, 7:02 PM CT
Braden Looper has been pushed back a day in the rotation and will start Wednesday instead of Tuesday. Joel Pineiro switches spots with Looper.

Our View: No reason was given for pushing Looper back, but the Cardinals are likely just giving him an extra day of rest after the righty's shutout his last time out.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 6/11, 8:49 PM CT
Braden Looper hurled a complete game shutout over the Reds limiting them to just three hits and zero walks in his 8th win of the year.

Our View: Looper continues to be a solid pitcher this year keeping the Red Birds in most games he starts, though his ratios (4.34 ERA, 1.40 WHIP) are high enough to make him a risky play in shallow mixed leagues.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 6/1, 6:11 PM CT
Braden Looper continued his torrid hitting and helped his cause on Sunday in the Cardinals' 7-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The St. Louis starter had two singles, scored twice, and drove in a run to raise his batting average to .429 on the season.

Our View: Looper leads all pitchers in hitting this season. Yes, he's better than Micah Owings. On the mound, Looper wasn't as good in the win. He allowed eights hits on three runs, walked three and struck out only one in 5.2 innings of work.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 5/11, 5:40 PM CT
Braden Looper suffered his second loss of the season on Sunday when the Cardinals fell short in a 5-3 loss to the Brewers. Looper allowed four runs on seven hits, walked one and struck out one in six innings.

Our View: Looper kept the Cardinals in the game for the most part, but sloppy baserunning by St. Louis' All Star Albert Pujols all but cost Looper and the team any chance of victory on Sunday.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 5/6, 11:16 PM CT
Cardinals RHP Braden Looper picked up his fifth win of the season, pitching 8 1/3 innings, allowing four runs (all earned) on 10 hits to lead the Cards to a 6-5 victory. Looper failed to allow a single walk and struck out just one.

Our View: Looper hasn't been terribly strong this season, but wins are wins.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 4/30, 4:13 PM CT
Braden Looper improved to 4-1 on the season thanks to six innings of seven hit, two run ball on Wednesday against the Reds.

Our View: Looper continues to keep his team in games with consistent yet unimpressive fantasy performances. He remains a lower end option in mixed leagues, but one that you can start with confidence at the moment.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 4/20, 10:16 PM CT
Sunday's poor effort by Braden Looper against San Francisco should come as no surprise. The former closer is 0-3 with a 5.65 ERA and two saves in 31 career appearances, including two starts, against the Giants.

Our View: Looper was hit hard Sunday lasting only three innings. The veteran allowed seven runs on ten hits, walked none and struck out one in the loss.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 4/15, 11:14 PM CT
Cardinals starter Braden Looper is now one of few in the MLB carrying a 3-0 record, holding the Brewers to three hits over five innings, surrendering one run.

Our View: Looper wasn't especially dominating by any means, giving up five walks versus just four strike outs, but he worked ground balls and got took full advantage of the offensive bounty laid by the offense.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 4/10, 12:12 AM CT
Braden Looper earned his second win of the season on his second start for the Cardinals, putting the Houston Astros to task in a 6-4 victory. Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 4/5, 9:34 AM CT
Veteran RHP Braden Looper orchestrated a strong outing in St. Louis' 5-4 win over Washington. Looper threw 95 pitches over six innings, surrendering just one run on five hits, walking two and striking out three. The outing was quickly put in jeopardy by Russ Springer, giving up three runs on 12 pitches (the bulk of the damage done on a Cristian Guzman homer), but four other relievers combined to stop the bleeding and secure Looper's first win of the season.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 3/20, 3:40 PM CT
Braden Looper was coming off two consecutive tough outings, but bounced back against the Marlins on Thursday as he only allowed one run on five hits over 5.1 innings of work, with two walks and two strikeouts. Hopefully he can build on today's performance and put his poor outings behind him.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 3/13, 4:59 PM CT
Braden Looper had another tough outing this spring as he allowed four runs on seven hits over four innings, with two walks and two strikeouts. He gave up seven runs back on March 8 and has a spring ERA of 11.57.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 3/8, 9:46 PM CT
In one of the worst outings in recent spring-training memory, Braden Looper was forced to the bench rather early in today's 14-run loss to the Dodgers. LA hit two homers and scored seven runs off Looper in their 20-6 victory. Five runs scored in the second and two more had crossed in the third when Looper was pulled with one out for Ron Villone, who entered the game with Matt Kemp at third base. Before the inning was over, the Cardinals had committed three errors and allowed five more runs. There are times when it might be best to ignore such result, but this certainly should be a warning for Looper and fantasy owners looking forward.

Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 6/18, 5:23 PM CT
Braden Looper, who left his last start with shoulder stiffness, and was placed on the disabled list on Monday, according to the AP. Perhaps this injury shouldn't be seen as a surprise, as Looper has already pitched 10 more innings this year than he did all of last year out of the bullpen. This move means that, at least for the time being, Kip Wells' spot in the starting rotation is safe.
Braden Looper, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 6/16, 11:58 PM CT
Braden Looper remains a question mark to make his next scheduled start Wednesday, though the team probably won't know more about his status until he is seen by a team doctor once back home. He started Friday's 14-3 loss, but had to leave with tightness in his right shoulder in the fifth.
