Javier Valentin, C, New York MetsMonday 6/22, 11:30 AM CT
The New York Post's Bart Hubbuch reports that the Mets have released Javier Valentin.

Our View: The veteran catcher had been at Triple-A and did not appear in a game for the Mets this season. The vet batted .256 in 129 at-bats for the Reds in 2008, and may catch on with another team.
Javier Valentin, C, New York MetsFriday 5/15, 8:56 AM CT
The Mets have signed catcher Javier Valentin, according to the New York Daily News. He is expected to be sent to Triple-A Buffalo.

Our View: The 33-year-old vet is a career .251 hitter in the majors, and offers no speed and little power. He holds no fantasy value while serving as organizational depth.
Javier Valentin, C, New York MetsWednesday 3/18, 9:23 PM CT
Javier Valentin was 2-for-2 on Wednesday and drove in a run for the Nationals in their 7-4 loss against Florida.

Our View: Valentin is nothing more than a backup infielder. While he may be a valuable role player for the Nats, he has no fantasy value.
Javier Valentin, C, New York MetsTuesday 2/3, 7:23 PM CT
Javier Valentin signed a minor-league deal with the Washington Nationals, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Valentin should prove to be a stable backup for the Nationals after hitting .256 with four home runs and 18 RBI in 94 games with the Reds.

Javier Valentin will start at catcher today against Milwaukee, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer. He is nursing a slightly strained hamstring but Manager Baker noted, "He has pretty good numbers against Brewers right-hander Dave Bush (today's opposing pitcher). It's a situation where we've got to take care of Bako, too." David Ross is eligible to come off the DL on Monday, and Valentin has chipped in favorably with a .375 average over eight at-bats.

Javier Valentin exited Friday's game in the sixth inning with an apparent leg injury, according to the AP. Paul Bako replaced Valentin in the game. With David Ross already on the DL, the Reds can ill afford to lose Valentin for an extended period of time.
Javier Valentin, C, New York MetsSunday 3/16, 8:21 AM CT
Javier Valentin skipped Saturday's game after taking a foul ball off his shoulder the day before, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. "It's sore, real sore," Valentin said. "But I'm OK." If he really is OK, we should see him back in action within the next couple of days.
Javier Valentin, C, New York MetsWednesday 10/31, 4:29 PM CT
The Reds exercised their $1.3 million option on Javier Valentin Tuesday, according to the AP. Valentin, who batted .276 with two homers in 97 games this year, should once again share time behind the plate with David Ross next season.
Javier Valentin, C, New York MetsMonday 9/17, 12:10 PM CT
Javier Valentin left Sunday's game with lower back soreness. "He can swing OK," manager Pete Mackanin said in the Cincinnati Enquirer. "But it bothers him when he crouches." With Valentin ailing, expect David Ross to handle the catching duties for the rest of the year.
Javier Valentin, C, New York MetsFriday 3/23, 11:28 AM CT
Although Javier Valentin left Thursday's game with a tight hamstring, he's not concerned about the injury, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "Not bad," Valentin said. "It's not pulled."

Javier Valentin, C, New York MetsMonday 8/28, 8:47 PM CT
The Reds and Javier Valentin agreed on a one-year contract extension Monday, according to the AP. The deal is worth $1,325,000 and includes a 2008 club option worth $1.3 million. "I'm happy because it gave me the opportunity to play," Valentin said. "I couldn't turn it down, because now I can go home and relax, knowing I have a job for next year. It's a good organization and very professional. I like it here, I want to be here, and I'm playing with a good group of guys."
