Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersMonday 6/15, 3:09 PM CT
Kris Benson has been placed on the Rangers minor league disabled list with a right elbow injury according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: Benson was not good in eight games for the Rangers this season, so this news shouldn't affect any fantasy leagues.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersTuesday 6/9, 4:28 PM CT
The Rangers have outrighted pitcher Kris Benson to Triple-A Oklahoma City after the veteran cleared waivers according to MLB.com.

Our View: Batters were hitting .340 against the former overall number one pick this season, so this comes as little surprise. With the Rangers new found pitching depth, it currently seems unlikely that Benson will ever pitch in the major leagues for them again.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersWednesday 5/6, 8:32 PM CT
Kris Benson (elbow) has been activated off the DL and he will now throw out of the bullpen for the first time in his career, The Dallas Morning News. Scott Feldman will remain in the starting rotation.

Our View: Benson has made 197 appearances in his big league career and every one of them has been in a starting role. Benson figured to have little value as a starter, and he will have even less now that he will be working of the bullpen.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersTuesday 5/5, 8:47 PM CT
According to SB Nation, the Rangers will active Kris Benson from the DL tomorrow and, in a corresponding move, send Luis Mendoza to Triple-A.

Our View: Benson will likely head to the bullpen upon his return as the Rangers need another arm in relief and don't fully trust his ability to start yet.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersTuesday 5/5, 9:02 AM CT
Kris Benson, who is currently sidelined by elbow tendinitis, could be moved to the bullpen when he returns, GM Jon Daniels acknowledged to the Star-Telegram.

Our View: Benson pitched five innings Sunday for Double-A Frisco in his first rehab start and is tentatively scheduled for another start Friday. The Rangers like what they've seen from Scott Feldman, so it appears Benson could be left out in the cold.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersMonday 5/4, 8:49 AM CT
Kris Benson, who is recovering from right elbow tendinitis, worked five innings with Double-A Frisco Sunday, according to the Star-Telegram. He surrendered three runs.

Our View: Benson is eligible to be activated from the DL, but the Rangers are yet to decide if he needs another rehab start. Scott Feldman has been filling in for Benson in the rotation, and his next start would be Wednesday if Benson does not return.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersThursday 4/30, 12:49 PM CT
Kris Benson (right elbow tendinitis) threw a bullpen session without any issues today, and he is slated for a rehab start Sunday with Double-A Frisco, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: Scott Feldman has been filling in for Benson in the rotation. Feldman's next start is Wednesday, which may be too soon for Benson to return, especially since Benson needs to build up arm strength.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersWednesday 4/29, 11:40 AM CT
Pitcher Kris Benson (elbow) threw a bullpen session on Tuesday, and he hopes to come off the DL on Friday, the Dallas Morning News reports.

Our View: Fantasy owners shouldn't be eager for this return. Benson has a lot to prove before we'll be ready to promote him in any type of fantasy league.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersTuesday 4/28, 1:18 PM CT
Kris Benson (tendinitis) did not report any issues regarding his ailing right elbow after playing long-toss Monday, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: Benson is eligible to come of the 15-day DL Friday, and is hoping to throw a bullpen session today. The 34-year-old hurler is not expected to hold value outside of deeper AL-only leagues upon his return to Texas.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersSaturday 4/25, 11:13 AM CT
Kris Benson's elbow exam revealed no structural damage, according to The Dallas Morning News. With the confirmation of tendonitis, Benson hopes to be able to return from the DL in the first week of May.

Our View: Benson should be healthy enough to resume pitching for the Rangers soon, but that doesn't mean you will want to return him to your fantasy lineup given that he was bombed in his two starts to the tune of a 9.00 ERA and a 1.91 WHIP.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersWednesday 4/22, 5:21 PM CT
TSN reports that Kris Benson was placed on the 15-day DL retroactive to April 16. The team filled his roster spot by claiming Darren O'Day off waivers from the Mets.

Our View: Benson is a poor fantasy performer and he likely would not be in the league if not for the fact that the Rangers rotation is in such shambles.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersMonday 4/20, 2:39 PM CT
The Dallas Morning News is reporting that Kris Benson has had his next scheduled start pushed back from Wednesday to Saturday due to elbow tendinitis. This injury is not considered serious.

Our View: Rangers' GM Jon Daniels said the elbow is improving, so he should be ready to go this weekend. If you were relying on Benson's Wednesday start to help your team, you need to take a step back and rethink your fantasy baseball career.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersFriday 4/10, 3:50 PM CT
Kris Benson got rocked in his first MLB appearance since 2006, giving up seven earned runs (eight total) off 10 hits (two home runs) and two walks while striking out three against Detroit on Friday.

Our View: The former first overall pick had impressed the Rangers this spring but fell flat on his face in his start on Friday. He should be given another opportunity or two before getting replaced in Texas' rotation but clearly should not even be remotely considered for any fantasy team.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersWednesday 4/1, 1:32 PM CT
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Kris Benson has landed a spot in the Rangers rotation. Seriously.

Our View: This would be a very clever way for the Star-Telegram to celebrate April Fool's Day. However, given the results the Rangers have had with their ragtag set of veteran arms this spring, we believe there might be some truth to this report. Benson has not pitched in the majors since going 11-12 with 4.82 ERA three years ago, but he hopes to resurrect his career in a place that has killed many other starters. Needless to say, we are not too high on his fantasy value for 2009.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersThursday 3/19, 7:39 PM CT
Kris Benson made his second start of the spring in Thursday's 8-5 win over Oakland. He allowed five hits, a walk, and four earned runs over four innings of work.

Our View: The Rangers rotation is nothing to write home about, but four spots appear to be set. Benson is certainly being considered for the fifth spot, but it seems highly unlikely that he'll be anything but trouble for his fantasy owners.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersThursday 3/5, 6:17 PM CT
Kris Benson pitched well for the Rangers on Thursday as he earned a hold in two innings of work. He allowed just one hit while walking one batter and striking out another.

Our View: Benson has a 2.25 ERA early on in this spring and hasn't been ruled out for the Rangers' rotation yet.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersMonday 3/2, 11:02 AM CT
Kris Benson has been scratched from today's game due to a strained muscle in his back, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: The club does not believe the ailment is serious, but it is uncertain when he may be ready to return to the mound. He cannot afford to miss time while a longshot to make the Rangers' rotation.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersWednesday 2/25, 6:03 PM CT
Kris Benson earned the win on Wednesday to begin the Cactus League, but he wasn't great. He went two innings, allowing one run off of two hits and one walk.

Our View: Benson isn't extremely likely to make the Rangers' rotation, but if he builds on this decent outing he'll have a shot.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersSaturday 2/21, 11:22 AM CT
As expected, starting pitcher Kris Benson has signed with the Texas Rangers, Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman reports.

Our View: A former No. 1 draft pick, Benson struggled in Philadelphia's minor-league system a season ago, posting a 1-6 record with a 5.78 ERA in 67 innings.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersFriday 2/20, 4:20 PM CT
Kris Benson is expected to sign with the Texas Rangers, according to their official site.

Our View: Benson hasn't pitched in the majors since 2006 due to a torn rotator cuff in 2007 and pitching in the minors in 2008. He has a lot of upside, but won't be worth drafting in fantasy leagues.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersFriday 2/6, 2:58 PM CT
Kris Benson reportedly failed to impress during his recent throwing sessions, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. He hasn't pitched in the majors since 2006 while recovering from rotator cuff surgery.

Our View: The Rangers may no longer be interested after adding Jason Jennings, but the Dodgers and Cardinals could still be potential suitors.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersThursday 1/29, 9:34 AM CT
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Rangers are interested in Kris Benson.

Our View: The club is hesitant to ink Ben Sheets due to medical concerns, but they apparently are considering Benson, who has not pitched since 2006 while recovering from rotator cuff surgery. The Dodgers and Cardinals also like Benson.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersSunday 1/25, 11:55 AM CT
Kris Benson auditioned for nine MLB clubs Saturday, according to the NY Post.

Our View: Among the interested teams in attendance were the Rangers, Diamondbacks, Blue Jays, Dodgers, Padres, Cardinals and Indians. Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersThursday 1/22, 10:22 AM CT
The Rockies are going to attend Kris Benson's throwing session on Saturday, but are not expected to sign him, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: The Rockies are trying to avoid adding pitchers that are coming off injuries. Benson has not pitched in the majors since 2006 while recovering from rotator cuff surgery.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersWednesday 1/21, 11:32 AM CT

Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersSaturday 1/17, 7:36 AM CT
Kris Benson is on the Cardinals' radar, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Benson is believed to be recovered from his March 2007 rotator cuff surgery. The Dodgers, Diamondbacks and Rangers are also interested, all of which could use depth for their rotation.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersThursday 1/15, 9:36 AM CT
Kris Benson is on the Dodgers' radar, according to the LA Times.

Our View: They are monitoring the 34-year-old hurler, but their interest is believed to be low at this time. The Cardinals, Rangers and D-Backs are also keeping tabs on him.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersWednesday 1/14, 5:21 PM CT
Free-agent pitcher Kris Benson plans to showcase himself for interested teams on January 24, according to MASN sports. The Cardinals, Dodgers, Diamondbacks, and Rangers are among the teams that are expected to be represented at the workout.

Our View: Benson has not pitched in the majors since 2006 when he made 30 starts for the Orioles. He owns a career 4.34 ERA over 1206 innings. His career record is 68-73. Don't expect much from him unless he has a strong spring training.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersWednesday 1/14, 9:43 AM CT
Kris Benson is garnering interest from four MLB clubs, according to MASN Sports.

Our View: Benson, who had rotator cuff surgery around two years ago, stated that his shoulder hasn't felt this good since 2000. The interested clubs are the Dodgers, Diamondbacks, Rangers and Cardinals.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersTuesday 12/9, 7:38 AM CT

Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersSaturday 8/30, 7:15 PM CT
Kris Benson has been released by the Phillies, according to the AP. He was working at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersFriday 8/1, 10:19 AM CT
Kris Benson threw seven innings, giving up five hits and one earned run for Triple-A Lehigh Valley, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View: Benson's overall performance in the minor leagues has not been good. He is 1-5 with a 6.35 ERA, and opponents are hitting .329 off of him. It's unlikely he'll be pitching in the bigs anytime soon.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersWednesday 7/23, 11:01 AM CT
Phillies' GM Pat Gillick commented that Kris Benson is doubtful to pitch for the Phillies this season, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View: The Phillies signed him to a minor league deal in February with hopes of him working in the starting rotation in May, but he did not bounce back favorably in his recovery to repair a torn right rotator cuff.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersSunday 6/29, 8:18 PM CT
Kris Benson worked four innings and allowed four runs for Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday. He allowed five hits, walked none, struck out one, and threw 73 pitches. Benson tells MLB.com that he felt fine. His fastball reached 93 mph. Benson is coming back from surgery to repair a torn right rotator cuff.

Our View: Benson seems to be at least one more start away from throwing his hat into the major league mix. We're not counting on him to help fantasy teams very much, although NL-only owners obviously need to take notice.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersFriday 6/27, 9:18 AM CT
Kris Benson will start Sunday for Triple-A Lehigh Valley, this according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. The right-hander is scheduled to throw five innings or 80 pitches in the start. "It's important for him to be challenged and to get a better assessment on how he will handle pitching against better competition," Phillies assistant general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said. Amaro said it was too early to know when Benson could be ready to contribute at the big-league level. "I think he's feeling a little more comfortable, a little stronger," Amaro said. "A lot of it depends on how much more he improves." Benson, whose fastball has been consistently about 89 m.p.h., went 0-2 with an 8.10 ERA at Single-A Clearwater.

Our View: In his last start, he allowed seven hits, a run and a walk in 42/3 innings. He struck out three. Benson, 33, missed the 2007 season after undergoing shoulder surgery and is attempting to earn a spot in the Phillies rotation.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersFriday 6/20, 6:59 PM CT
Kris Benson worked two innings facing 13 batters and allowing five runs in a Single-A appearance on Friday, according to MLB.com. "He made progress, and that's the important thing," Phillies GM Pat Gillick said. "He's a little bit better than his last time out [in an extended spring training outing]. "His arm was OK. He has to have better control. If he's going to pitch with the fastball that he had last night, he needs to have better control."

Our View: Benson was working in the 90-91 mph area with his fastball, and that should be enough to have some success if he can indeed regain the feel on his pitches. He is still a ways away from making a contribution at the big league level.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersWednesday 6/18, 8:42 AM CT
Kris Benson is slated to make a rehab start on Thursday for High-A Clearwater, the Philadelphia Daily News reports. The hurler was previously scheduled to pitch on June 2, but his start was scratched due to soreness in his right biceps.

Our View: Benson hasn't been in the majors since 2006 (torn rotator cuff), and the Phillies are likely to stretch his minor league rehab out to the full 30 days. Fantasy owners shouldn't count on him.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersMonday 6/2, 5:50 PM CT
Sigh. Kris Benson was scratched from his scheduled start on Monday due to tightness and soreness in his right biceps, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. "It's a concern enough for him not to pitch," assistant general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. says. "He didn't feel comfortable pitching. He kind of tested it this morning and didn't feel comfortable posting up and pitching tonight. We're concerned about it." Benson was slated to make his first minor league rehab appearances for High-A Clearwater.

Our View: Benson is coming back from a torn rotator cuff, and this news is disheartening. Fantasy owners aren't (or shouldn't be) counting on him.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersFriday 5/30, 11:04 AM CT
Kris Benson will make his first official minor league appearance on Monday against Tampa, notes the Philadelphia Inquirer. The veteran righthander, who is attempting to work his way back from shoulder surgery last March, is expected to throw about 75 pitches during the game.

Our View: The Phillies still don't have a definitive timetable on when he might be ready to compete for a slot in the team's rotation.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersWednesday 5/28, 9:07 AM CT
Kris Benson tossed four-plus innings in an extended spring training game on Tuesday. His fastball ticked up towards 90 mph, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. "It was encouraging for him and encouraging for us," assistant general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. says. Benson is coming back from a torn right rotator cuff. The Phillies will only say that the right-hander could be ready between June 15 and July 15.

Our View: Benson is likely to work four or five minor league starts before the Phillies give him a shot in the majors. That next step could come soon.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersFriday 5/23, 8:39 AM CT
Kris Benson threw 58 pitches in an extended spring training game on Thursday and will work again on Tuesday, the Philadelphia Inquirer notes. He is recovering from a torn rotator cuff that has kept him out the entire 2007 season.

Our View: Benson is probably still a month away, at least, from joining the Phillies. We imagine he'll take the full 30 days once he starts a minor league rehab assignment.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersWednesday 5/21, 1:27 PM CT
Kris Benson is scheduled to pitch in an extended spring training game on Thursday, according to the Philadelphia Enquirer. He will then pitch another extended spring training game Tuesday.

Our View: He had a slight change in his schedule, as he was previously going to pitch in a simulated game today. The Phillies are hopeful that Benson will be pitching well enough as early as the middle of June to contribute and help them.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersMonday 5/19, 7:46 PM CT
Kris Benson, who threw a simulated game on Saturday, is "still a long ways away" according to assistant GM Ruben Amaro Jr. in a report on MLB.com. "He's going to have to show some improvement to pitch in the big leagues," Amaro said. "He's going to have to pitch like a big leaguer to pitch in the big leagues.

Our View: Benson apparently is not ready to enter a minor league game, yet alone a big league game, as he is still trying to make his way back from right shoulder surgery, a comeback that has been plagued by issues to his biceps and groin.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersFriday 5/16, 10:12 AM CT
Kris Benson is scheduled to pitch a simulated game on May 26, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Benson is coming back from shoulder surgery.

Our View: The Phillies rotation hasn't exactly lit the world on fire, but Benson is still a long ways away from helping out.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersTuesday 5/6, 10:54 AM CT
Kris Benson is improving, and has been throwing long toss, according to the Philadelphia Enquirer. He is recovering on the DL from a strained right groin. There remains no timetable for his return to the diamond.

Our View: He isn't expected to be back before June, and isn't worth waiting for as a fantasy prospect. He held a below average 1.40 WHIP over 183 innings in 2006, with a mere 88 strikeouts.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersThursday 4/24, 12:33 PM CT
Kris Benson pitched to hitters on Wednesday in Clearwater, Florida, and is scheduled to throw an extended spring-training game on Saturday, according to the Philadelphia Enquirer and Daily News.

Our View: He won't be back before June, and isn't worth waiting for as a fantasy prospect. He held a below average 1.40 WHIP over 183 innings in 2006, with a mere 88 strikeouts.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersFriday 4/11, 9:36 AM CT
Kris Benson could pitch in a minor league game within two weeks, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. He is rehabbing his shoulder ailment, and won't be back before June.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersMonday 4/7, 9:07 AM CT
Kris Benson will throw bullpen sessions on Monday and sometime in the middle of this week, but he does not have a date set for a minor league outing, the Philadelphia Daily News reports. Benson is out due to right shoulder soreness and won't be back before June.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersThursday 4/3, 10:31 AM CT
Kris Benson has been long-tossing in Clearwater, Fla., but it remains uncertain when he can throw from a mound again, according to the Philadelphia Enquirer. Benson won't likely pitch for the Phillies before the end of May, due to his right biceps tendinitis, but assistant GM Ruben Amaro Jr. wouldn't rule out the possibility, who stated, "Once he gets up and going, he could get on the mound fairly quickly. But it depends when he gets on the mound and starts throwing off the mound. I would like to hope that he'd be ready before June 1, but that's probably a little more of a realistic date." Benson won't hold much fantasy value when he returns.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersThursday 3/27, 10:21 AM CT
Kris Benson will be in a position to help the Phillies sometime in May, this according to the Philadelphia Daily News. Benson and the team finalized a new contract increasing the minor league salary he will receive as well as creating a date on which he can opt out of his contract, if the team doesn't bring him into the rotation. If Benson isn't on the major league roster and pitches in more than 10 minor league innings before May 15, he can opt out of the deal. Until more information is known on what Benson is capable of, he is nothing more than free agent fodder in all formats.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersTuesday 3/25, 6:55 PM CT
Phillies asistant GM Ruben Amaro Jr. wouldn't comment on Kris Benson's contract situation on Tuesday, according to the AP. "He has to build up innings and arm strength," Amaro said. "He has a ways to go." If Benson isn't added to the Phillies' 40-man roster by Tuesday, he'll have 24 hours to opt out of his minor league deal and become a free agent. Benson missed all of last season due to shoulder surgery and isn't expected to be ready for action this season until the end of May or beginning of June.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersSunday 3/23, 1:25 PM CT
Kris Benson's status for the opening day roster is yet to be determined, according to the Philadelphia Enquirer. Benson was fighting for the fifth spot in the Phillies' rotation until a sore shoulder took him out. Athletic trainer Scott Sheridan commented, "We'll continue with him throwing right now unless anything happens differently. But he feels a lot better. It's just one of those normal bumps in the road that happens with this type of rehab. It's not related to his cuff repair or the other things he had done surgically. There's no concern structurally for what was repaired." It remains unclear when he can pitch again, and pitching coach Rick Dubee said, "Time will tell. He felt better today. Tomorrow will tell us more. So as he progresses, we'll decide when he's going to throw off a mound. I wouldn't say May is out of the question for his return to the big leagues. But again, it's going to be a day-by-day, week-by-week process for this guy."
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersTuesday 3/11, 7:36 AM CT
Kris Benson is fighting for the fifth spot in the Phillies' rotation, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. He has the inside track as he is the only candidate who has not allowed a run over the last five days and has looked solid in limited work overall. As of now he is signed to a minor league deal and is expected to be promoted to the 40-man roster by March 25. He underwent shoulder surgery last season and would likely start 2008 on the DL until he is ready to start.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersWednesday 3/5, 12:48 PM CT
Kris Benson is ready for his first spring outing. The right-hander will work a minor league game on Saturday, MLB.com reports. He missed the entire 2007 season due to right rotator cuff surgery. "It's going to be fun," Benson says. "It'll be one step closer to putting me in good position for March." The pitcher was later informed that it is already March.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersSunday 2/24, 10:12 AM CT
Kris Benson is slated to toss a couple of 30-pitch bullpen sessions on Sunday, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. "Hopefully, we're headed in the right direction," pitching coach Rich Dubee said. Benson missed all of last season due to surgery on his right shoulder, and it appears unlikely that he'll be available by the start of the 2008 regular season.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersSaturday 2/16, 10:55 AM CT
The Phillies expect Kris Benson to arrive in camp on Saturday, and he could throw as soon as Sunday. "He's just not going to be able to jump in and do everything right now, from how I understand it," manager Charlie Manuel tells the Philadelphia Inquirer. "It's going to take a while." Benson missed the entire 2007 season due to right shoulder surgery, and he is currently throwing at only 60-to-70 percent.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersWednesday 2/13, 2:59 PM CT
The Phillies have signed Kris Benson to a minor-league deal, pending a physical, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Phillies scout Chuck LaMar said that Benson, who missed the 2007 season while recovering from shoulder surgery, is throwing only at 60 to 70 percent, which makes it very doubtful the right-hander will break camp with a spot in the rotation.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersWednesday 2/13, 7:40 AM CT
A contract with veteran pitcher Kris Benson could be signed soon reports Philly.com. Amaro said he expects a "resolution" within 24-to-48 hours. Benson missed all of last season with a torn labrum after going 68-73 with a 4.34 ERA in seven seasons with the Pirates, Mets and Orioles. Benson's agent, Gregg Clifton, said his client is completely healthy and has been throwing between 70 and 90 pitches during his offseason workouts for prospective teams. The two sides talked late last night and will talk again this morning in hopes of hashing out a deal. *
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersTuesday 2/12, 2:13 PM CT
The Phillies aren't any closer to signing free agent Kris Benson, though there is a much better chance of them signing him than bringing back Kyle Lohse, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Other teams have watched Benson throw, but the Phillies have been linked to the right-hander more than anyone else. Benson missed all of the 2007 season while recovering from shoulder surgery.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersMonday 2/4, 3:14 PM CT
The Phillies are interested in seeing how well Kris Benson has progressed since the last time he threw for them and eight other teams, last month in Arizona, according to the team's official website. Benson is an appealing option because he's willing to accept a one-year, incentive-laden contract. He missed the entire 2007 season while recovering from shoulder surgery
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersTuesday 1/29, 10:56 AM CT
Free agent Kris Benson will throw again next week for interested teams next week in the Atlanta area. The session will most likely be Tuesday and the Phillies, who also scouted him last month, will be among the clubs watching, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. The Phils could offer the right-hander a minor-league deal if they like what they see. Benson missed last season following shoulder surgery.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersTuesday 12/18, 11:04 AM CT
The Phillies and about eight other teams watched Kris Benson throw 60 pitches in Phoenix Monday. Benson missed the entire 2007 season while recovering from shoulder surgery, but he's healthy now, and the scouts that watched him throw apparently came away impressed. "All the comments I received [from scouts] were very, very positive," Benson's agent, Gregg Clifton, said in the Philadelphia Inquirer. "My experience with scouts is that if they didn't like what they saw, they might say nothing. They might say, 'Thanks for the opportunity to watch him pitch.' But everything they said afterward was very complimentary."
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersThursday 11/1, 11:28 AM CT
The Orioles declined their $7.5 million option on Kris Benson Thursday, making him a free agent, according to the AP. The O's paid him a $500,000 buyout. Benson did not pitch at all in 2007 as he recovered from labrum surgery. Some team will take a flyer on him with a short-term, incentive-based deal, but you can ignore him for fantasy purposes.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersWednesday 8/8, 10:38 AM CT
Kris Benson is way ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation from labrum surgery and could resume throwing next month, according to the Baltimore Sun. The Orioles hold a $7.5 million option on Benson for next season, but as of right now, they are expected to decline.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersThursday 3/15, 8:39 AM CT
Kris Benson has decided to undergo season-ending surgery on his torn rotator cuff, according to the Baltimore Sun. "Kris had tried everything to avoid this day," Gregg Clifton, Benson's agent, said last night. "However, despite his best efforts, the consensus among doctors and training staff is that surgery is the best alternative to allow him to perform at the level that he is accustomed to performing at." Benson had been trying to rehab the shoulder, but he was still dealing with soreness.
Kris Benson, P, Texas RangersWednesday 3/7, 3:36 PM CT
