The Rockies designated Steve Finley for assignment on Tuesday, according to the Sports Network. The Rockies now have 10 days to trade, release or send Finley outright to the minor leagues. In 94 at-bats this year, Finley hit .181 with one homer and two RBI.

Steve Finley may get a start Wednesday because of his 4-for-10 history against Arizona pitcher Doug Davis, the Rocky Mountain News reports. "When you get a new player, you do look at some of the numbers and look for some trends," Rockies manager Clint Hurdle said when asked about the possibility of Finley starting. As for Finley being a left-handed hitter and Davis being a left-handed pitcher, that might not matter; Davis has actually had less success getting lefties out during his career.

The Rockies signed Steve Finley to a minor league contract on Saturday. He'll be a non-roster invitee in spring training. Finley hit .246 with 40 RBI in 139 at-bats with the Giants in 2006.

Steve Finley expressed his frustration about being a fourth outfielder, according to the Giants website. He said that it's frustrating to get as little playing time as he's been getting, and that he believes he's a good enough player that he should be on the field more often. For that reason Finley almost certainly won't return to the Giants next season.
