Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresSunday 7/26, 8:16 AM CT
The San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting that Brian Giles' contusion on his right knee is improving and that he could return to action very soon. Giles has been out since June with the injury.

Our View: There is no need for Giles to rush back, as he will likely not see much playing time upon his return, The Padres are dedicated to playing their young outfielders, and Giles will not take many at-bats away from the youngsters. He should not be viewed as a legitimate fantasy threat for the rest of the season.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresWednesday 7/22, 9:41 AM CT
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Brian Giles (knee) may return to the batting cage this week.

Our View: Giles' strained knee that landed him on the DL in mid-June has improved enough that he may return to the club in a couple of weeks. Unfortunately he won't have much to do upon his return as the Pads have stated that they are sticking with their young outfielders. He'll likely be limited to spot starts and pinch hitting duties.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresThursday 7/16, 12:58 PM CT
The San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting that Brian Giles will not take playing time away from the team's young outfielders when he returns from injury. No timetable has been set for his return, but Giles says he will be ready to play at some point this season.

Our View: With the Padres out of the race, they are going forward with their youth movement, and Giles is obviously not a part of that movement. It seems unlikely Giles makes any kind of fantasy impact this season, so anyone still holding onto him should feel free to get rid of him at this point.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresWednesday 7/15, 10:38 PM CT
There remains no timetable for Brian Giles' return to the Padres, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View: The veteran outfielder has been on the shelf since June 19 with a right knee contusion. He was only hitting .191 with two homers prior to going down, and is only worth holding in the deepest of fantasy leagues.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresTuesday 6/23, 7:43 PM CT
Brian Giles has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right knee contusion, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Giles has continued his swift, comprehensive regression in 2009, batting just .191 with two homers. If for some reason you still own him, now is the time to drop him and never look back.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresSunday 6/7, 12:11 AM CT
Brian Giles went 2-for-5 with two RBI in the Padres' 6-4 win over the Diamondbacks on Saturday. Giles is hitting .198 on the year.

Our View: Giles has been a little better as of late, but with a .198 average he does not warrant any fantasy consideration. He will have to do something drastic to be considered for fantasy duty this season.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresTuesday 5/26, 11:42 PM CT
Brian Giles knocked three hits on Tuesday, but the Padres fell to the Diamondbacks 6-5. Giles went 3-for-5 with a double in the game.

Our View: Giles is on the back end of his career, but he is still capable of nights like tonight on occasion. These occasions are very rare, but still. He should not be owned in any leagues, as he is hitting .189 on the year.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresTuesday 5/5, 11:51 PM CT
Brian Giles hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the tenth innings to give the offensively anemic Padres a 2-1 win over the Rockies on Tuesday.

Our View: Giles was 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI and two walks and is starting to show some offensive signs of life. His average is still an abysmal .163, but he homered on Sunday and had two hits Tuesday, so maybe he's coming around. Still he's no longer the fantasy player of old.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresSunday 5/3, 9:18 PM CT
Brian Giles hit his first home run of the season in Sunday's 7-3 loss to the Dodgers. It was his only hit in five trips to the plate.

Our View: Giles is struggling mightily this season. He is hitting .158 and his home run Sunday was just his third extra base hit of the season. There's no one to blame but Giles here as he sees plenty of pitches to hit, batting in front of slugger Adrian Gonzalez. Even though his power has been gone for years, Giles was still an on-base machine. Until this year that is. He's only drawn ten walks and has an OBP of .240.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresSaturday 4/25, 10:58 AM CT
Brian Giles is hitting just .164 at the dish as he continues to search for his swing at the plate, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. "I felt OK. It takes two or three or four good days of good batting practice where you know what adjustments to make."

Our View: Giles will continue to hit third in front of Adrian Gonzalez, the prime spot in the Padres order. Perhaps a new shipment of maple bats will help him to rediscover his control of the strike zone he has walked just six times against 10 strikeouts.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresWednesday 2/11, 10:05 AM CT
Brian Giles has filed a coutnersuit against his former girlfriend, who sued him last year for $10 million due to abuse, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Giles alleges she battered him and disparaged him in front of others.

Our View: In 2006, Giles entered a guilty plea for misdemeanor domestic violence due to a violent incident with the same woman in a Phoenix bar that was captured on a security camera.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresSaturday 1/3, 12:41 PM CT
Jeff Moorad, formerly the CEO of the Arizona Diamondbacks, has reached an agreement to purchase the San Diego Padres, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: The team has been for sale because current Padres owner John Moores and his wife are in the midst of a divorce.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresWednesday 12/24, 2:14 PM CT
Brian Giles has come out to say that his ex-girlfriend's lawsuit is all about money, according to ESPN. "The marriage never took place because the plaintiff changed her mind about a prenuptial agreement," Giles said. "The statement that I promised before marriage to divide my property to plaintiff if we ever separated or died is nonsense."

Our View: It's hard to tell who's telling the truth at this point, but Giles' explanation seems plausible.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresWednesday 12/17, 3:53 PM CT
Padres outfielder Brian Giles was sued by his ex-girlfriend for more than $10 million, as she alleges that he hit, slapped, shook and kicked her while she was pregnant, leading to a miscarriage, according to Padres.com.

Our View: We certainly hope this is not true. Giles will not comment on the suit.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresWednesday 11/19, 10:16 AM CT
Brian Giles expects to begin the 2009 campaign with the Padres, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Giles said, "I don't see how that would be a thought for them, to pick up my option and try to trade me before spring training. I think they picked up my option to be one of the pieces to try to win here. I don't think they picked up my option to try to trade me. I'm going to play here."

Our View: Giles has the power to veto any trade. Giles' power may be on the decline, but he still hit .306 with a .398 OBP in 2008 with 81 runs scored.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresFriday 11/7, 4:56 PM CT
The Padres exercised Brian Giles's option for $9 million on Friday, according to the Padres' official site.

Our View: With a buyout of $3 million, this move makes a lot of sense. Even with Giles' power numbers down, the Padres are unlikely to get an outfielder with the same production for $6 million, the difference between his buyout and option.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresTuesday 9/30, 5:47 PM CT
Brian Giles appears almost certain to remain with the Padres as the club is leaning towards exercising their $9 million option, according to the Padres Official Website. "We're probably leaning more toward exercising the option," Towers said. "This is guy really makes our offense go, and he's the type of hitter we like to have, especially in this ballpark," GM Kevin Towers said.

Our View: Giles was seventh in the NL in batting (.306) and sixth in OBP (.398) in a quietly effective season. He is no longer anything more than a passable option in the power categories (12 home runs, 63 RBI), but he hits for a high enough average and produces enough runs (81) to be useful in deep mixed leagues.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresSunday 9/28, 6:30 PM CT
Brian Giles was 1-for-4 with an RBI in what may have been his last game as a Padre after five-plus seasons. The 37-year-old right fielder will be a free agent this winter.

Our View: Giles hit .306 and drew 87 walks in 2008. He has not hit more than 15 home runs in a season since 2004.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresThursday 9/11, 12:13 AM CT
Brian Giles went 1-for-4 with a run scored on Wednesday night, and he failed to record an RBI while leaving four runners on base.

Our View: Giles has morphed into a solid leadoff hitter with a .303 average and a .394 OBP. He still has doubles power with 34 doubles, though his lack of speed (one steal) and the poor offense around him limit his production (70 runs scored).
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresFriday 9/5, 11:05 PM CT
Brian Giles had four hits including an eighth-inning solo home run that tied the score 2-2 against the Brewers on Friday. It was just his 11th home run of the season.

Our View: The big night brings his average back over .300. Giles has had a rather mediocre year by his standards. His numbers would no doubt be more impressive if he played on just about any other team or in any other ballpark.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresWednesday 8/27, 5:46 PM CT
It was a day off for Brian Giles today but he would play a role in the Padres 5-4 win against the Diamondbacks. Giles pinch-hit in the eighth inning and singled then scored the game-tying run on Chase Headley's single.

Our View: Giles is hitting exactly at .300 with his pinch-hit single.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresWednesday 8/27, 10:58 AM CT
Even though Brian Giles is hot, collecting hits in six of his last nine at-bats, that trend could end on Wednesday when he and his Padres teammates face Arizona lefty Randy Johnson. In 32 career at-bats, Giles has just three hits (.094) off the Big Unit, and has struck out 13 times.

Our View: Ugh. It's hard for fantasy owners to sit a guy with a seven-game hitting streak, but if there was ever a time to do it, this might be it. Giles does not show his usual patience at the plate against Johnson either, having drawn just two walks off of him.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresSunday 8/24, 6:36 PM CT
Brian Giles hit a rare home run, his ninth of the season, but it was not enough for San Diego, who lost to the Giants 7-4.

Our View: Giles was 1-for-3 in the game but walked twice, upping his already good OBP. He remains useful in fantasy despite his shortcomings in the power department.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresSunday 8/17, 12:05 AM CT
Brian Giles had only one hit on Saturday night, but he finished 1-for-2 with four RBI. He hit a sacrifice fly and a three-run double.

Our View: That's the second time in the past week that Giles has managed four RBI. His days as a high-end run producer are will in the past, but these efforts were a nice bonus for his fantasy owners.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresSunday 8/10, 6:26 PM CT
Brian Giles led the way in San Diego's 16 run outburst by going 4-for-6 with four runs scored and four RBI against the Rockies.

Our View: The four RBI were just two less than he had in all of July, so this is exactly the thing fantasy owners wanted to see.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresFriday 8/8, 11:44 PM CT
Brian Giles celebrated turning down the ability to go to the Red Sox by hitting this seventh home run of the season for the Padres.

Our View: Giles was born in southern California and simply didn't want to move to the east coast after he was claimed on waivers. The home run was his lone hit on the night and his second in three games after a stretch of 32 games without a home run.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresFriday 8/8, 12:49 PM CT
Brian Giles will exercise his no-trade clause to block a waiver deal to the Red Sox, according to ESPN.

Our View: Giles was claimed on waivers by the Red Sox, and Boston and San Diego had 48 hours to make a deal. But the Red Sox are one of eight clubs listed in the limited no-trade provision in his contract, and Giles has the right to veto any deal.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresThursday 8/7, 11:28 AM CT
The Red Sox are one of the teams that has put a claim on Brian Giles, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. They have a 48-hour period in which to try to work out a trade with San Diego.

Our View: It seems highly unlikely that the Sox actually want Giles given their glut of outfielders. They're most likely just blocking either the Angels or Rays (the only two teams with better records) from getting him.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresWednesday 8/6, 6:47 PM CT
Brian Giles has been claimed off waivers by an unnamed team, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal. The Padres have 48 hours to complete a trade. If no deal is reached, the Padres can take back Giles, or let him go to the claiming team.

Our View: Dozens of players get claimed off waivers every year and nothing ends up happening. We'll let you know if Giles ends up departing San Diego.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresSunday 8/3, 8:54 PM CT
Brian Giles was the Padres hitting star on Sunday even though he didn't do anything to special with two hits, a run scored and an RBI.

Our View: Giles had five hits in the three game series with little else going on around him in the Padres lineup. Giles is a fraction of the hitter he once way with almost no power (only five long balls), though his batting average (.297) and OBP (.393) remain as strong as ever.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresMonday 7/14, 9:39 AM CT
Brian Giles has been nursing a hamstring ailment, but the team believes he will be healthy and set to return immediately following the All-Star break, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Giles said, "There has been noticeable improvement. Getting off it for a couple of days was the right decision."

Our View: Giles has 21 doubles for the season, but only one over his last eight contests. His pace should go back up while refreshed after the break.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresWednesday 7/9, 3:22 PM CT
Brian Giles was held out of the Padres' starting lineup for the fourth-straight game on Wednesday due to his ailing hamstring and the San Diego Union-Tribune believes he won't return over the weekend against the Braves, expect as possibly a pinch-hitter.

Our View: With the All-Star break, Giles would have a total of 11 days off when the Padres resume play July 17 at St. Louis. Manager Bud Black noted on Tuesday the Padres considered placing Giles on the DL at the start of this week, but that would have kept him sidelined through July 22 or 23 in Cincinnati.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresTuesday 7/8, 9:22 AM CT
Brian Giles missed his second-straight start on Monday due to his hamstring ailment, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View: The ailment has slowed him down for more than two weeks, and last played a full game Wednesday. He only has one extra base hit, a double, over his last eight games.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresSunday 7/6, 10:17 AM CT
Brian Giles is nursing a hamstring ailment, according to the North County Times.

Our View: He is hitting .302 for the season, but went hitless against Arizona on Saturday, and only has one hit over his last two games. He hasn't registered an extra base hit in four-straight contests as well, and manager Bud Black said Paul McAnulty may be used as a defensive replacement for Giles in the outfield.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresTuesday 7/1, 1:28 PM CT
Brian Giles and his Padres teammates face off against the Rockies and starter Aaron Cook, which bodes well for Giles. He is hitting .417 against the righty in 36 at-bats.

Our View: Giles isn't going to have great power numbers, but he gets on base and is not to blame for the Padres lethargic offense. He has reached base in nine of his last 17 plate appearances, but has scored just one run in that time. He's a good fantasy option if you can do without the power numbers.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresWednesday 6/25, 11:55 PM CT
Brian Giles had a hit on Wednesday in three trips to the plate leaving him with a hit in eight of the last 10 games.

Our View: Unfortunately for Giles owners, the hits have come with little production has he has but one home run and a lone RBI in eight games.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresWednesday 6/25, 7:42 AM CT
Brian Giles was back in the lineup Tuesday night. The Padres right fielder was out two games because of a hamstring strain, and his left shoulder will require treatment indefinitely.

Our View: Giles, like most of the San Diego players, has struggled at the plate and with injuries in the first three months of the season. Giles went 1-for-4 in Wednesday's loss to the Twins.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresSaturday 6/21, 10:30 AM CT
Brian Giles' MRI results revealed adema in his ailing left shoulder, but he was still in Friday's lineup against the Tigers, according to the North County Times.

Our View: He went hitless Friday, but had a hit in his previous six contests, and the ailment has not forced him to miss any time or compromise his swing at the plate.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresFriday 6/20, 9:52 AM CT
Brian Giles will undergo an MRI on his sore left shoulder, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Giles said, "I've had a bad shoulder before, back in the early part of spring training, and that's kind of what it feels like now. They're thinking there's something irritating the rotator cuff."

Our View: He has not missed any playing time due to the ailment, and the pain is most severe when he throws the ball or makes a bad swing. He maintains a .300 average over 70 games, with 35 runs scores.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresThursday 6/12, 7:43 PM CT
Brian Giles hit a home run, just the fourth of the season, for the Padres on Thursday.

Our View: Since being moved into the third spot in the order Giles has excelled with an OPS over .900 and a batting average of .342 as he has once again become a fantasy relevant outfielder.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresWednesday 6/4, 11:41 PM CT
The Padres emerged victorious from a pitcher's duel fought against the Chicago Cubs, taking the 2-1 win. The top man behind the offensive effort was outfielder Brian Giles , going 2-for-3 with a walk and two doubles on the evening, posting one run scored.

Our View: This brings Giles to a batting average of .299 on the season, boasting hits in each of his last three games, in six of his last seven, and 12 of his last 14. He's not hitting the ball for power or driving in a ton of runs (8 RBIs in the month of May), but he is putting the bat on the ball.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresMonday 5/19, 11:57 PM CT
Brian Giles had two hits on Monday night, his fifth straight game of at least two hits.

Our View: This streak has pushed his average from .259 to .311 in a matter of five games thanks to 14 hits. Of course he didn't score a run cause no one on the team can hit behind him right now, but the elder Giles is certainly doing his thing right now.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresSunday 5/18, 10:58 PM CT
Brian Giles continued his hot hitting on Sunday with three more hits to give him a .307 average on the year. That makes 12 hits in his last four games.

Our View: Giles still isn't producing any runs, but his average and OBP (.400), are certainly top notch. The problem is that the team just hasn't been hitting leaving Giles stranded more often than not.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresSaturday 5/17, 5:23 PM CT
Brian Giles' four hits on Friday night offers evidence that the Padres right fielder is the hottest hitter on a club with cold bats. The four hit performance brought his numbers to a respectable - .288/.386/.436. While his slugging percentage is soft, the veteran has learned that elevating the ball in PETCO is a fruitless effort.

Our View: Tracking his numbers one will find that Giles' fly ball percentage is down over 5 percent in the last two seasons, while his strike out to walk and average have improved.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresSaturday 5/17, 7:51 AM CT
Brian Giles went 4-for-5 with two RBI in Friday's 6-4 win over the Mariners. Two of his hits went for doubles.

Our View: He now has seven hits over his last two games, and raised his batting average to .288. He is performing very well from the third spot in the Padres' order.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresThursday 5/15, 4:38 PM CT
Brian Giles had three hits on Thursday to improve his average to .272.

Our View: With the insertion of Jody Gerut into the lineup, Giles has slide down the order from his leadoff spot into the third hole. Obviously this is a much better RBI slot, but whether or not Giles can take advantage of that opportunity remains to be seen at this point of his career.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresTuesday 5/6, 9:36 PM CT
OF Brian Giles has a good thing going as the leadoff man for the Padres despite a 5-3 loss to the Atlanta Braves. Giles went 4-for-5 with his 8th double of the season, totaling two runs scored.

Our View: This is just the second game in the last 11 in which Giles has failed to earn a walk, touting 10 hits over his last seven games.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresSaturday 4/19, 10:18 PM CT
Brian Giles hit his second home run of the season on Saturday as he knocked in two runs. He also took two walks.

Our View: Giles continues to get on base at the top of the order for the Padres, but amazingly he has scored only four runs in 15 games as his mates have failed to knock him in.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresWednesday 4/16, 11:51 PM CT
Brian Giles had two hits and two RBI for the Padres on Wednesday to raise his average to .333.

Our View: Giles has a more than respectable 10 RBI while batting exclusively from the leadoff spot though he has only four extra base hits on the season (one HR, three doubles).
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresFriday 4/4, 9:13 AM CT
Brian Giles received a day off on Thursday to rest his surgically repaired right knee. He had microfracture surgery over the winter. Giles tells the San Diego Union-Tribune that the joint "feels great," and he adds, "We're not really out of the woods on that until June, when the tissue is supposed to be fully settled on the bone."
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresThursday 4/3, 12:05 AM CT
Brian Giles may have totally lost his power stroke but the man can still hit and on Wednesday he did just that with three hits and three RBI for the Padres. Always a high OBP hitter, Giles is slightly miscast as a leadoff hitter for the Padres because of his lack of speed, but he still should be a fine fourth of fifth type outfielder in deep mixed leagues.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresWednesday 3/19, 7:55 PM CT
It is looking like Brian Giles will be ready for Opening Day, according to MLB.com. Giles is progressing favorably enough from his off-season microfracture surgery on his knee to get into Cactus League games this week. Giles notably played in Tucson on Monday and started in right field, as well on Tuesday. He'll get around 40 at-bats this spring, and it's looking like he will be ready for Opening Day. So far, his knee has handled every rehabilitation dished his way.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresFriday 3/14, 11:52 PM CT
Brian Giles returned to action on Friday afternoon on a practice field in a Minor League game, according to MLB.com. Giles, who had surgery on his right knee at the start of the off-season, batted four times in the first three innings and received a paucity of hittable pitches. He faced four different pitchers and hit a run-scoring single up the middle, walked twice and struck out looking. Giles did not play defense or run the bases, and he won't Saturday either, when he plays in another Minor League game. But he could be doing so by Monday in Tucson, AZ, weather permitting, as rain is a possibility on Sunday and Monday. It's all part of the plan Giles and the Padres have in place to get him ready for the regular season. "Opening Day is our date," Giles said. "We've kind of got a schedule from here until we're done with camp with the idea of being ready on the 31st [of March]."
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresFriday 3/7, 10:41 PM CT
Brian Giles is expected to test his surgically repaired knee in a Minor League game on March 14, this according to the team website. Giles could be used as a pinch-hitter when the Padres face the Rockies in Tucson on March 16, and slowly be worked into the outfield rotation in the final week of spring training.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresSunday 2/24, 10:29 AM CT
Brian Giles took batting practice and sprinted down the basepath Saturday without favoring his surgically repaired knee, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. "I've been doing sprints, running since the end of January, and I feel good," said Giles. He's recovering from October microfracture surgery but is on track for opening day at this point. Giles is entering the final year of his current contract, though the Padres have a $9 million option with a $3 million buyout clause for 2009.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresThursday 1/17, 11:17 AM CT
Brian Giles, recovering from offseason surgery on his right knee, expects to be ready to play opening day. "Barring any setbacks, I think it's realistic to say I'll be ready to start the season," Giles said to the San Diego Union-Tribune. "There hasn't been one setback yet, no pain, no swelling. I feel like I'll be ready to go for the first spring training game. But there's no reason to press it in spring training. My guess is that I'll hit in minor league games for the first week to 10 days. But this was also a more significant injury and operation than what I thought."
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresFriday 10/5, 10:57 AM CT
Brian Giles underwent microfracture surgery on his right knee. The operation was performed on Wednesday. He had trouble with his right knee since late April, and the amount of damage surprised the doctors. “They found it hard to believe he was able to go out there every day with very little cartilage in the knee,” general manager Kevin Towers tells the San Diego Union-Tribune. “He's not going to be able to put much weight on the knee for a couple of months. He should be able to play in some spring training games, but the docs think he should be ready for Opening Day.”
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresSunday 8/12, 4:28 PM CT
Brian Giles, whose power has disappeared in recent years, suddenly has found it over the last few days. Giles went deep twice Sunday for the second straight game, giving him five dingers over the last three days. He still has just seven on the year - in 299 at-bats.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresFriday 8/10, 6:02 AM CT
Brian Giles missed Thursday's game due to his tender ankle, the AP reports. He remains day-to-day.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresWednesday 8/8, 10:02 PM CT
Brian Giles lasted only until the sixth inning during his past two games. He's still dealing with swelling in his sprained ankle, according to the AP. It's not clear whether the Padres are being cautious with his return or whether he may need some more time off.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresTuesday 8/7, 11:01 AM CT
Brian Giles made his first start Monday since suffering an ankle sprain last Wednesday. However, he hasn't recovered fully from that injury or the knee injury that put him on the DL for 38 days earlier this season. "I don't think the right side will be 100 percent until Thanksgiving," Giles told the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresFriday 8/3, 12:10 PM CT
Brian Giles, who left Wednesday's game and did not play Thursday due to a sprained ankle, is not a candidate for the disabled list, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. That said, it's unclear when he'll be ready to return to the starting lineup.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresWednesday 8/1, 11:43 PM CT
Brian Giles left Wednesday's game in the fifth inning after spraining his right ankle. He was injured when he slammed into the fence after making a catch, according to the AP. Giles stayed in the game for the rest of the half-inning but was removed in the bottom of the inning for a pinch runner after drawing a walk.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresTuesday 7/3, 11:04 AM CT
Manager Bud Black said that Brian Giles' right knee probably will be "cranky" for the rest of the season. Giles, who spent nearly six weeks on the DL with a bone bruise, last night made his third start in four games since coming off the DL, according to the Union-Tribune.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresFriday 6/29, 7:11 AM CT
Brian Giles was activated off the disabled list Thursday and should be fine to play this weekend against the Dodgers. He's returning from a sore knee.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresWednesday 6/27, 10:57 AM CT
Manager Bud Black is very encouraged by how Brian Giles' knee has responded in two rehab games at Single-A, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Barring a setback, Giles is expected to rejoin the Padres on Friday.
Brian Giles, RF, San Diego PadresMonday 6/25, 8:46 AM CT
Brian Giles will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Lake Elsinore on Monday. If all goes well, he'll be activated from the disabled list on Friday, according to the LA Times. He's been out for over a month with a bone bruise in his right knee, but it looks like he'll be available for the weekend series against the Dodgers.

Boone missed more than 30 games late in the 2000 season with the ailment and said it was still bothering him early in the offseason, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Giles has even put in a call to Boone to see what he should expect in regards to the healing process. "I'd like to know what he experienced when he had his injury," Giles said Sunday. "I'm sure I'm experiencing the same frustration." Giles has already missed 20 games and will be out at least another week. "I'm frustrated," he said. "But I can't play until it's ready. They say it takes six weeks to heal. I'm not even sure when the healing began."
