Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 2/27, 3:30 PM CT
According to Jeff Fletcher on Twitter, Rich Aurilia is still looking for employment and if he doesn't land with a team by the end of spring training he is going to retire.

Our View: Aurilia still wants to play for at least another year, but it doesn't sound like a club is willing to reciprocate. He's now 38 years old and played in just 60 games last season due to injury. Combine that with his .213/.256/.279 line with two homers and 16 RBI in 122 at-bats and it's no wonder that teams aren't banging down his door. So far no interested teams have been linked to him.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 2/2, 4:34 PM CT
According to the San Jose Mercury News, Rich Aurilia isn't ready to call it quits and stated that he'd like to play for the Mets or Yankees this season.

Our View: It's nice Aurilia knows where he wants to go, but it's not exactly up to him. One of the New York franchises has to sign him first and he had just a 213/.256/.279 line with two homers and 16 RBI in 122 at-bats last year. He may get a spring training invite from one of the two clubs, but don't expect him to make any kind of impact.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 11/23, 11:09 AM CT
Rich Aurilia would like to continue playing in 2010, according to ESPN.

Our View: It may be hard for the 38-year-old utility infielder to find a suitor after he hit .213 with just two home runs in 60 games for San Francisco last season. He's most likely at the end of the line.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 8/7, 7:57 PM CT
Rich Aurilia has been activated from the 15-day disabled list and added back to the Giants major league roster.

Our View: This move is a bit of an upset since Aurilia is hitting just .210 this season and the Giants recently acquired Ryan Garko. The team must like his veteran leadership, but that doesn't translate into fantasy value.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 8/7, 11:32 AM CT
Rich Aurilia went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI in his rehab start at Single-A San Jose, according to MLB.com. Aurilia has now made five rehab starts while recovering from a right big toe infection.

Our View: Aurilia hasn't done much with the Giants this season, and it looks like the road is nearing an end for Aurilia. Don't expect him to make any kind of impact with the team this season, if he even makes it back at all.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 8/4, 8:32 AM CT
Rich Aurilia is again in danger of being released, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: The Giants reportedly want to promote pitcher Joe Martinez to start on Wednesday, and there is little room for the 37-year-old veteran on the team's 40-man roster with the recent additions of Ryan Garko and Freddy Sanchez. Aurilia is hitting just .210 in 105 at-bats this season.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 7/31, 8:18 AM CT
The San Jose Mercury News reports that Rich Aurilia is currently on a Triple-A rehab assignment, attempting to return from a toe injury.

Our View: Aurilia homered in Thursday's rehab start and looks to be ready to return in the near future. However, the Giants may not have room for him when he returns and it remains to be seen if he'll stick on the roster.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 7/21, 5:52 PM CT
Updating a previous report, Rich Aurilia has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with an infection in his big right toe.

Our View: This move was made as opposed to releasing him. Aurilia's career appears to be all but over, and if there isn't anyone obvious to demote when he comes off the DL, he likely will be cut loose.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 7/21, 3:15 PM CT
Rich Aurilia has been placed on the 15-day DL with an undisclosed injury, according to the Twitter page of Giants' beat writer Andrew Baggarly. Aurilia is hitting only .210 in 105 at-bats this season.

Our View: No word yet on the extent of the injury, but with the reports that he was going to be released it may just be something to get him off the roster for the time being. We will keep you updated, but obviously this will not impact anyone's fantasy team.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 7/20, 9:33 AM CT
Rich Aurilia could be released this week when the Giants recall Ryan Sadowski to start on Tuesday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Manager Bruce Bochy did not see it was likely, but there has been speculation that he will be the one to go. He is hitting just .202 with only two home runs in 104 at-bats this season.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 7/5, 7:45 PM CT
Rich Aurilia was productive in Sunday's 7-1 loss to the Astros at AT&T Park, as he went 1-for-3 with a solo homer off ace Roy Oswalt.

Our View: The Giants only mustered three hits in the game, and Aurilia was their lone source of scoring. Aurilia only has two homers and a .214 batting average for the season, and he should continue to be ignored in fantasy leagues.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 7/4, 1:32 PM CT
TSN is reporting that the Giants have activated infielder Rich Aurilia from the bereavement list. He was out while attending the funeral of his father.

Our View: Aurilia has not been good this season, and he warrants no fantasy consideration going forward. His best years are behind him, and there are plenty of other more appealing options out there.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 6/28, 11:42 AM CT
Updating a previous report, the Giants have officially placed Rich Aurilia on the bereavement list, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

Our View: Aurilia will be attending his father's funeral. He stands to miss about four games. Travis Ishikawa will start in his place.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 6/23, 4:30 PM CT
Rich Aurilia will go on the bereavement list this Sunday in order to attend the funeral of his father, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: He could be out up to four days. Aurilia is batting just .202 in 89 at-bats this season, so he won't be missed in your fantasy lineup. Our thoughts go out to his family, though.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 6/4, 11:17 PM CT
Rich Aurilia had a solid night at the plate as he went 2-for-3 with an RBI in Thursday's 4-1 win at Washington in the bottom half of their doubleheader. Both of his knocks were singles.

Our View: Aurilia is hitting well right now, as he notched two hits and an RBI in each of his last two games. He only hit .220 in May, and has a .221 average for the season.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 5/3, 8:12 PM CT
Rich Aurilia drove in the only run of the game in the Giants' ten-inning win over the Rockies on Sunday. He singled in the winning run in his only at-bat of the game.

Our View: Good for Rich Aurilia. Walk-off winners are great. Unfortunately they don't mean much to fantasy owners, especially when they come from platoon players who are hitting .200 on the season.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 4/9, 7:22 AM CT
Rich Aurilia is slated to start at first base Thursday against the Brewers, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: He will be replacing Travis Ishikawa because skipper Bruce Bochy wants to use Aurilia against opposing lefty Manny Parra.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 3/27, 6:39 PM CT
Rich Aurilia was 2-for-3 with a home run on Friday. It was his second long ball of the spring.

Our View: Aurilia figures to be a bat off the bench for the Giants, but he is having a strong spring and could be called upon if one of the kids struggles early.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 3/4, 10:54 PM CT
Rich Aurilia cracked his first home run of the spring on Saturday while serving as the Giants' DH. He went 1-for-3 overall with a walk.

Our View: Aurilia is unlikely to have much fantasy value since he figures to be a bench player, but if he has a strong enough spring he could see a fair amount of playing time with a fairly young Giants team.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 2/9, 7:00 PM CT
Updating a previous report, the AP notes that the Giants have officially signed Rich Aurilia to a minor-league deal with an invitation to spring training.

Our View: Aurilia will not be an everyday starter, but he will likely receive spot starts in multiple positions. His fantasy value will depend a lot on the health of the players that are in front of him on the depth chart.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 2/9, 12:09 PM CT
Rich Aurilia will sign a minor league deal with the Giants, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Our View: The 37-year-old opted to return to the Giants rather than join the Cubs or Phillies. Aurilia's fantasy value will be low as a utility man.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 2/7, 5:44 PM CT
The Giants have offered infielder Rich Aurilia a minor-league contract, which he is strongly considering, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The deal will pay him $1 million if he makes the roster out of spring training.

Our View: The Phillies and Mets also have rumored interest in the utility man. Even if he sticks on a roster, he probably won't see much more than 400 at-bats. He is probably not worth fantasy consideration without a serious injury opening up more playing time for him.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 2/5, 7:50 AM CT
The Mets may be in the market for a right-handed bat for the bench, and Rich Aurilia is among their options, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View: Aurilia is a former All-Star and can play several positions in the infield, making him a nice choice for New York. The Mets are believed to be trying to trade catcher Ramon Castro to unload his $2.5 million salary.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 2/4, 11:33 AM CT
Rich Aurilia and the San Francisco Giants may be involved in discussions to bring the veteran back to the Bay for another season, reports ESPN.com.

Our View: Aurilia started his career with the Giants, playing there from 1995-2003. After four seasons away from the club, he returned in 2007 and has spent the past two seasons there, hitting .283 last season.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 1/26, 8:41 PM CT
The Phillies are interested in bringing in Rich Aurilia for a bench role, according to MLB.com. The club wants a right-handed bat for for match ups late in games against left-handed relievers.

Our View: Aurilia provided a little pop last year with the Giants, cranking 10 home runs in 407 at-bats. He also batted .283 or more importantly for the Phillies' purposes, .321 against lefties.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 1/26, 8:59 AM CT
The Pirates are not interested in Rich Aurilia, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Aurilia would provide veteran leadership and depth at the corner infield spots, but the Pirates are not interested in adding him.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 1/22, 11:53 PM CT
The Mercury News reports that Rich Aurilia and the Giants remain in contact. Aurilis indicated that it is the Giants who are the ones hesitating to do a deal.

Our View: Aurilia will probably not be a candidate to start, but he is a good insurance plan at the corner positions for the Giants. Also, the team could use another right-handed bat off of the bench.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 1/15, 8:39 AM CT
Rich Aurilia is reportedly on the Cubs' radar, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: The Cubs may offer him a one-year deal as a replacement for Ronny Cedeno, and as a backup for Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez on the infield corners. His power numbers could benefit from playing his home games at Wrigley Field, but his fantasy value would be limited as a reserve.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 1/8, 7:25 AM CT
The Giants are considering re-signing Rich Aurilia, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The utility man is well-liked in San Francisco, and he played 10 of his 13 campaigns in the majors with the club. He favorably batted .283 last season, while chipping in 10 homers and 52 RBI.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 12/8, 8:50 AM CT
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports states that the Cubs would consider Rich Aurilia if they deal Mike Fontenot or Ronny Cedeno.

Our View: The utility-man would be a good fit for Chicago, as he held a .283 batting average and .332 OBP over 140 games with the Giants in 2008. He only hit 10 homers, but his power numbers would likely improve while playing his home games at Wrigley Field.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 11/27, 7:47 AM CT
The Giants and Dodgers are reportedly interested in Rich Aurilia, according to Yahoo Sports. Aurilia would likely play the role as a super-utility player for either club. Aurilia is looking to extend his stay with the Giants, where he spent the last two seasons and began his career as well.

Our View: Aurilia hit .283 in 407 at-bats in 2008 with decent power numbers of 10 home runs and 52 RBI. He can play all four infield positions, but primarily has been a corner-infielder in recent years.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 11/1, 8:48 AM CT
Corner infielder Rich Aurilia filed for free agency on Friday, according to MLB.com. Giants general manager Brian Sabean has indicated a willingness to re-sign Aurilia, 37, who can play all four infield spots. But Sabean said last month that if the Giants and Aurilia do reach a deal, it might not happen until late in the offseason.

Our View: Aurilia hit .283 with 10 home runs and 52 RBIs in 140 games, representing a considerable improvement over 2007, when a neck injury limited him to a .252 average, five homers and 33 RBIs in 99 games. This year, he started 50 games at first base, 49 at third and two as a designated hitter. He could be a valuable addition to a team's bench, but not likely to your fantasy squad.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 8/5, 8:28 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, the league reports any players the Giants placed on waivers last Friday can officially be claimed by other teams Tuesday. That may include Rich Aurilia , a player likely to be immediately targeted by the Mets, according to MLB.com.

Our View: A free agent after this season, Aurilia is owed an affordable $1.5 million for the remainder of the year and currently is batting .281 with eight home runs. A source said the Mets, losers of four straight entering Tuesday night, were interested in acquiring the veteran infielder to use as a right-handed batter off the bench. That means his fanasy value could increase considering the lack of playing time offered in San Fran, but that rise is not likely to push Aurilia into the must-have category for fantasy owners. We'll keep you posted.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 8/4, 6:37 PM CT
The New York Mets are taking a look at Rich Aurilia to fill a hole in their outfield, according to MetsBlog.com.

Our View: Aurilia has enough bat for NL-only leagues, and though his playing time has reduced in San Francisco, should he go to New York, his fantasy value would likely increase.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 8/2, 8:18 AM CT
Rich Aurilia will no longer see much playing time, as the Giants move in a younger direction, according to the San Jose Mercury News. "He'll still get in there two or three times a week," San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy said.

Our View: Only players in NL-only leagues may have Aurilia on a fantasy roster, and if you do, it's time to cut bait and find a replacement.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 7/30, 3:00 PM CT
ESPN reports that the Twins have inquired about Rich Aurilia of the Giants.

Our View: The Twins are dangling Boof Bonser in exchange for Aurilia. The Twins like Aurilia because they covet a right-handed bat and middle infield depth.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 7/6, 7:38 PM CT
Rich Aurilia collected the 1,500th hit of his career on Sunday. It came on his eighth home run of the season. He was 2-for-4 in the game.

Our View: Congrats to Rich. He still holds some fantasy value because he is eligible at nearly every infield position. He hit .359 in June.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 7/3, 9:03 PM CT
Rich Aurilia hit a pinch hit three-run homer in the seventh inning and the Giants salvaged a four-game split with an 8-3 win over the Cubs on Thursday night.

Our View: It was the veteran infielders seventh home run of the season, and his third career pinch-hit homer.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 6/29, 6:10 PM CT
Rich Aurilia went 3-for-5 with a homer and five RBI in Sunday's win over the A's. The 36-year-old corner infielder came into the contest with a mere seven RBI in the month of June.

Our View: Rich has hit well this month, but let's not get carried away. He isn't worth using in fantasy leagues, unless you are dealing with injuries in an NL-only format.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 5/30, 11:14 AM CT
Rich Aurilia was unable to play in the Giants' series finale Thursday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks after being hospitalized with a kidney stone, this according to the team website.

Our View: Manager Bruce Bochy said that Aurilia, 36, was expected to pass the stone later Thursday, rejoin the team and fly with the club back to San Francisco after the game.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 5/29, 8:43 PM CT
Rich Aurilia was not with the team on Thursday night as he was forced to go the hospital to pass a kidney stone, according to Rototimes.com sources.

Our View: It doesn't sound too serious, but anyone who has spent any time dealing with this issue likely would disagree with that assessment. Look for Aurilia to be back in action in a couple of days.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 5/6, 9:55 PM CT
San Francisco 1B Rich Aurilia did what he could to put the Giants in the win column this evening, but his efforts were not enough to overcome an offensive surge from the Pittsburgh Pirates, putting the Giants to bed 12-6. Aurilia went 3-for-4 at the plate with his 3rd double of the season, posting one RBI and two runs scored.

Our View: Aurilia has struggled to find his groove, but he is now 6-for-7 over his last two games.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsSunday 5/4, 4:25 PM CT
Rich Aurilia went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a homer, one run, and three RBI on Sunday against the Phillies. The veteran owns three long balls and six RBI over his last seven games.

Our View: Aurilia doesn't play every day, so you have to realize those seven games stretch all the way back to April 24. Anyway, Rich is finally swinging well and helping NL-only teams after his dismal start.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 4/25, 12:05 AM CT
Rich Aurilia hit his first home run of the season which turned out to be the only run the Giants scored in a 1-0 victory over the Padres.

Our View: Amazingly, it took Aurilia until his 20th game to score his first run of the season. How is that even possible? Aurilia might qualify at multiple positions, but up onto this point the only position he should be playing on your squad is bench.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 2/12, 3:21 PM CT
If the season began today, Rich Aurilia would likely be the starter at third base for the Giants, according to MLB.com. However, Aurila could also end up playing first, and Kevin Frandsen could play third if he doesn't win the second base job. Aurilia hit .252 with five homers in 329 at-bats last year.

"As of right now, this is the cleanest for us," GM Brian Sabean said. "We had to wait to see how he responded to what he did before the game. He hasn't played since Wednesday and wasn't sure about playing next week, and there's no time to fool around."
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsThursday 8/2, 9:55 PM CT

That's when it bothered me last time." If his injured neck responds well to the weekend game action, he should come off the disabled list on Tuesday.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 6/18, 10:22 PM CT
The Giants placed Rich Aurilia on the disabled list Monday with a sore neck, according to the AP. He has received multiple injections in the past few weeks to help alleviate the pain. The move was retroactive to Sunday. "He needed some time to get this neck issue to clear up so we went ahead and put him on the disabled list for at least 15 days to see if we could get this right," manager Bruce Bochy said. With Aurilia sidelined, Ryan Klesko, who is hitting .311 on the year, will see more action at first base.
Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsMonday 6/18, 8:13 AM CT
Rich Aurilia's neck injury has flared up again. While the injury should heal with rest, that rest likely will come via a trip to the disabled list, according to the Contra Costa Times. As it turns out Thursday was Aurilia's day to rest as the Giants continue to juggle their lineup card on a daily basis. Bruce Bochy admits it is taxing for an infielder to keep shifting positions, as Aurilia has done this year.

Rich Aurilia, 1B, San Francisco GiantsFriday 8/18, 7:33 PM CT
Rich Aurilia has started three of the last four games for the Reds at shortstop. It is unclear if this position switch is permanent, but if it is, it will severely hamper the playing time of Royce Clayton and Juan Castro.
