Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersThursday 3/18, 6:46 PM CT
Mike Sweeney went 1-for-3 with a triple in today's 9-2 loss to the Rockies in the Cactus League.

Our View: Sweeney is now batting .684 in spring training games, and is making a strong case in his bid to convince Seattle that he belongs on their roster as a backup corner infielder. The 36-year-old vet previously stated that he will consider retiring if he is not on a MLB roster on opening day.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersWednesday 3/10, 7:32 PM CT
Mike Sweeney will consider hanging up his cleats if he does not make the Mariners' opening day roster, according to FOX Sports. He joined the team on a minor league deal.

Our View: The 36-year-old first baseman is not interested in playing in the minors at this point of his career. Sweeney will try to make another MLB roster if the Mariners don't have a spot for him, and he prefers to play on the West Coast.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersSaturday 3/6, 5:51 PM CT
Mike Sweeney went 4-for-4 with three RBI in today's preseason win at San Diego. He hit two singles, one double and a solo homer.

Our View: Sweeney has low odds of making Seattle's opening day roster, but a solid spring training will help his chances of landing a spot with another team.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersFriday 2/12, 11:57 AM CT
The Mariners have re-signed Mike Sweeney to a minor league contract, according to the Tacoma News Tribune.

Our View: While Sweeney's career seems to be winding toward an end, he can still provide value in Seattle training camp as a mentor to their younger players given his excellent leadership and experience.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersSaturday 1/30, 9:09 AM CT
Mike Sweeney wants to play for a 16th major league season in 2010, according to Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports.

Our View: Sweeney hit an under-the-radar .281 (in 242 at-bats) for the Mariners last season, and likely has at least one more serviceable season left in his bat. He still can't play the field, but any American League team looking for an extra bench bat would be foolish not to at least take a gander in his direction.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersFriday 10/2, 11:53 AM CT
Mike Sweeney has told the Mariners he would like to come back for one more season with the team, according to the Seattle Times. Sweeney is having fun in Seattle, and he also said he would be interested in playing in Anaheim if Seattle isn't interested.

Our View: Sweeney is hitting .316 in the second half this season, but his history of back problems may cause the M's to hesitate in bringing him back. If he finishes out the season strong, expect the team to find a spot for him next season, even if it is in a reduced role.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersThursday 9/24, 8:05 PM CT
Mike Sweeney left Thursday's game in the second inning after being hit in the foot by a Ricky Romero pitch. Sweeney was replaced by Ken Griffey Jr. in the third inning.

Our View: No word yet on the seriousness of the injury, but it is not expected to be all that serious. He has been one of the hottest hitters on the team lately, so any missed time would hurt the M's offense.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersWednesday 9/9, 9:59 AM CT
According to the Seattle Times, veteran DH Mike Sweeney plans to play again in the 2010 season.

Our View: The 36-year-old Sweeney will have to postpone microfracture knee surgery and also find an AL team willing to give him a shot. The Angels and Mariners are the most likely suitors. He's hitting .277 with seven homers and 29 RBI in 213 at-bats this season.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersThursday 7/23, 4:13 PM CT
Mike Sweeney went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Thursday's 2-1 win at Detroit. He hit a single and a double.

Our View: Sweeney was in need of a solid performance at the plate, as he was hitless over his previous three games (11 at-bats). He should only be on rosters in deeper fantasy leagues.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersTuesday 7/21, 5:22 PM CT
Mike Sweeney has been activated from the DL following his recovery from back spasms, according to the Sports Network. Josh Wilson was designated for assignment as expected.

Our View: Sweeney will serve in a bench role, and is only hitting .250 with three homers over 120 at-bats. He is only worth owning in deeper fantasy leagues.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersTuesday 7/7, 5:31 PM CT
Mike Sweeney has been placed on the 15-day DL with back spasms, according to TSN. Erik Bedard was activated from the DL as the adjoining move.

Our View: The 35-year-old vet is only hitting .250 with three homers over 120 at-bats, and should not be missed in fantasy leagues while on the shelf.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersTuesday 7/7, 9:34 AM CT
Mike Sweeney is being listed as day-to-day by the Mariners after tweaking his back on Sunday against the Red Sox, according to MLB.com. Sweeney is hitting .250 with three homers this season.

Our View: This doesn't look too serious, but it is likely Sweeney will sit for a few days. He should not be considered in any fantasy format, so this should not affect anyone's lineup.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersSaturday 6/6, 12:36 AM CT
Mike Sweeney went 1-for-4 with a solo homer in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Twins at Safeco Field.

Our View: The Mariners only had four hits in the game, and Sweeney was their only source of scoring. He only had two homers heading into tonight's game, and is hitting .231.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersWednesday 5/27, 7:16 AM CT
Mike Sweeney left Tuesday's game against Oakland with back spasms, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: He slid hard into second base on a double, which triggered the back ailment. Ken Griffey Jr. replaced him in the DH role. Consider Sweeney day-to-day.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersSunday 5/10, 1:02 PM CT
Mike Sweeney re-aggrevated his sore back in his final at-bat Saturday night, and he is not expected to be available on Sunday, according to MLB.com. He is expected to be back Tuesday.

Our View: Sweeney having back problems is nothing new, so don't be surprised. He should be fine on Tuesday, but this won't be the last time he misses a game because of his back.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersWednesday 4/22, 11:22 PM CT
Mike Sweeney left Wednesday's game in the third inning with back spasms, according to MLB.com. He was replaced by Ronny Cedeno.

Our View: Sweeney has a history of back problems, but the Mariners hope this one isn't serious. He will be re-evaluated on Thursday, so stay tuned fr an update on his condition.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersMonday 4/6, 2:42 PM CT
Mike Sweeney will bat third in the Mariners' lineup for tonight's game at Minnesota, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Our View: He will be Seattle's fifth opening day designated hitter in six seasons since 2004. The 35-year-old vet fared well in spring action, but only holds value for deeper AL-only leagues.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersThursday 3/26, 6:35 PM CT
Mike Sweeney was 3-for-5 with an RBI on Thursday against his old team. He's hitting .344 this spring.

Our View: Sweeney is having a nice spring, but is injured too often to be counted on. Even if he does remain healthy, he would qualify at first base and DH, where there are significantly better players available.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersSaturday 3/21, 10:59 PM CT
Mike Sweeney was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored on Saturday. His spring average continues to creep towards .400.

Our View: Sweeney appears to be healthy and is having a very good spring so far. However, looks can be deceiving. Sweeney is an injury monkey of epic proportions and will likely come down with something sooner or later.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersThursday 2/12, 5:16 PM CT
Mike Sweeney could get a significant amount of playing time at designated hitter, unless Seattle can land an experienced hitter for that role, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Sweeney has 199 career home runs but has not hit at least 20 for three seasons. As a designated hitter in his career, he has hit .286 with 73 home runs and 336 RBI in 528 games.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersThursday 1/29, 1:26 PM CT
Mike Sweeney has signed a minor league deal with the Mariners, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Sweeney will be invited to spring training, and will compete for a bench role with Seattle. He could also see time as a DH.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersFriday 9/12, 7:00 AM CT
Mike Sweeney hopes to join another club after he clears waivers from Oakland today, according to the SF Chronicle. Sweeney said, "Hopefully, I'll pack up again and go to a contender, or I'll go watch the sunset on the beach with my wife and kids."

Our View: He was given an option of being released or being placed on the 60-day DL. He had trouble staying healthy this season, but provides a solid bat when he plays as he hit .286 over 126 at-bats.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersTuesday 9/9, 5:29 PM CT
The A's released Mike Sweeney on Tuesday. He hit .286-2-12 over 126 at-bats for the club this year.

Our View: The former cornerstone of the Royals franchise battled injuries again this year. We have to wonder if he may call it a career after his history with back problems.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersMonday 9/1, 3:56 PM CT
Mike Sweeney has been activated from the disabled list and will join the Athletics, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Sweeney has solid numbers, but does not contribute enough to be worth much for fantasy owners.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersSunday 8/31, 8:06 AM CT
It seems that first baseman/DH Mike Sweeney is close to returning to the A's after playing an entire nine innings in his rehab assignment in Triple-A, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Sweeney had surgery on his left knee a number of weeks ago. His fantasy value is limited because he only has 120 at-bats as a part time player.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersSaturday 8/23, 7:18 AM CT
Mike Sweeney, who is recovering from double arthroscopic knee surgery, went 0-for-2 with a walk at Triple-A Sacramento Friday, according to the SF Chronicle. He is 1-for-9 in his rehab assignment so far.

Our View: Sweeney is slated to return in early September, but fantasy owners should not be waiting for him. He isn't hitting well in his rehab stint, and he will be fighting for at-bats upon his return to Oakland.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersTuesday 8/19, 8:44 AM CT
In his first rehab appearance since having surgery on his left knee, Mike Sweeney went 0-for-2 for the A's Triple-A affiliate in Sacramento, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Sweeney should be back in early September, but his fantasy prospects are marginal. He has just 120 at-bats this season, with just two home runs and 12 RBI.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersFriday 8/15, 7:05 AM CT
Mike Sweeney, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on both knees on June 11, will begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: Sweeney won't likely be back before September, and will only be a bench performer, meaning he should only be held in the deepest of AL-only leagues.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersThursday 8/14, 7:03 AM CT
Mike Sweeney's rehab assignment was delayed at least another day when the A's decided not to have him run the bases, according to the SF Chronicle. Sweeney had arthroscopic surgery on both knees on June 11.

Our View: Sweeney felt a little sore Wednesday after having gone through a full workout the evening before, and he will give it a go before Thursday's game.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersWednesday 8/13, 7:15 AM CT
Mike Sweeney, who is recovering from left knee surgery, expected that he'd head toward Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday night, but Oakland put at least a daylong hold on his rehab assignment, according to the SF Chronicle. he felt as if Tuesday's workout (unning the bases, fielding grounders at first, taking batting practice) was "decent." But, he said, "The brain trust didn't agree, so I'll do it again tomorrow."

Our View: Sweeney noted that doctors had told him his legs probably would not be at full strength until eight weeks after the surgery. He has just hit that mark.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersWednesday 7/30, 7:07 AM CT
Mike Sweeney won't begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento Friday, according to the SF Chronicle. Instead, he'll go to Arizona for treatment after his latest setback. His knees locked up when he tried to run Monday.

Our View: Sweeney will spend seven to 10 days in Arizona and will undergo season-ending microfracture surgery on his left knee if he doesn't noticeably improve.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersTuesday 7/29, 10:05 AM CT
Mike Sweeney had a good BP session Monday and is tentatively scheduled to go to Sacramento on Friday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. If all goes well, he will rejoin the A's in Detroit next week. Sweeney is coming back from surgery on both knees.

Our View: Sweeney will see some time in the DH slot against lefties when he returns.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersMonday 7/21, 7:05 PM CT
Mike Sweeney took batting practice on Monday, but he has yet to start a running program, the AP reports. The DH is on the 60-day DL due to surgery to both knees on June 11. He is eligible to return on July 28.

Our View: We'll update Sweeney's status when more is known. The A's could have a glut of DHs by the end of July. Sweeney won't likely have much fantasy value.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersSunday 7/20, 7:23 AM CT
Mike Sweeney did his first running on Saturday since undergoing arthroscopic surgery on both knees back in May, according to the SF Chronicle. He is also taking batting practice.

Our View: He is hopeful to come off the DL when first eligible on July 28. He was hitting .292 with two homers and 12 RBI over 40 games prior to going down, and is a decent option in larger AL-only leagues.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersTuesday 7/8, 7:06 PM CT
Mike Sweeney was transferred to the 60-day disabled list.

Our View: The move comes after the Rich Harden trade and was likely done to open up spots on the 40-man roster for the incoming players. Sweeney should be back by August.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersWednesday 6/11, 8:33 AM CT
Mike Sweeney will not only have arthroscopic surgery on his left knee as planned Wednesday, he will also have a procedure on his right knee, as well, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Sweeney had the right knee repaired last year, and he thinks the problems he had with that knee led to the more recent problems with the left knee.

Our View: While the doctor is in there, he might as well work on Sweeney's cranky back, too. The veteran hopes to be back after the All-Star break.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersSunday 6/8, 2:21 PM CT
Mike Sweeney will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his bothersome left knee Wednesday and will miss 4-6 weeks, according to the AP. Sweeney, who had right knee surgery last year, hopes to be back to doing baseball activities in 3-4 weeks.

Our View: Is anyone really surprised? You should also not be surprised if it takes Sweeney longer than 4-6 weeks to rejoin the A's.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersSunday 6/8, 10:34 AM CT
Mike Sweeney took batting practice Saturday for the first time since going on the DL, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "Felt good hitting. Didn't feel too good running," said Sweeney, who is coming back from left knee inflammation. Sweeney will try to take BP again today.

Our View: There is no point projecting a timetable for return for a guy like Sweeney, who is a setback waiting to happen.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersTuesday 6/3, 8:54 AM CT
Mike Sweeney's exam revealed damaged cartilage in his left knee, but he is hoping to avoid surgery, according to the SF Chronicle. Sweeney received a cortisone shot and will resume activity in a few days. He would like to hold off surgery, if at all possible, until the offseason.

Our View: Sweeney held little fantasy value with only two homers and 12 RBI over 120 at-bats this season. He already has cartilage damage in his right knee additionally.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersSunday 6/1, 10:27 AM CT
Mike Sweeney has cartilage damage on the inside and outside of his left knee, the Oakland Tribune reports. The veteran will see a doctor in the Bay Area on Monday. Sweeney is on the DL.

Our View: We won't be surprised if a surgery report comes out on Monday or Tuesday. Sweeney can still swing a bit when healthy, but he has no fantasy value.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersFriday 5/30, 5:58 PM CT
Mike Sweeney has been placed on the 15-day DL due to left knee inflammation, according to the AP.

Our View: The move is retroactive to May 29. The 34-year old slugger was hitting .292, but with only two homers and 12 RBI. He held very little fantasy value prior to landing on the DL.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersWednesday 5/14, 4:26 PM CT
The Oakland A's penciled in a peculiar lineup for Wednesday's game against C.C. Sabathia and the Indians. Slugger Mike Sweeney is hitting second in the lineup and in front of Jack Cust and Frank Thomas.

Our View: Sweeney is no longer the young slugger he used to be, but he also doesn't hit to the opposite field as much as he used to.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersFriday 4/25, 6:17 PM CT
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that with the signing of Frank Thomas, Mike Sweeney could be expendable once Travis Buck (shin splints) returns from the disabled list. Manager Bob Geren immediately put Thomas in the starting lineup, batting fourth as the DH against the Twins. "Yeah, he's the everyday DH," Geren said Thursday morning. "And Barton is going to get significant playing time. I'll get Mike (Sweeney) in there as much as I can. ... Having too many good players is never a problem."

Our View: Geren did not make it clear how he will juggle playing time with Thomas, but the fact that he considers Thomas a better option than Sweeney is surprising. Thomas might be less of an injury risk compared to Sweeney, but nothing else he brings to the table is that exciting.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersWednesday 4/23, 11:34 PM CT
Perhaps making a statement that there is no need to bring in Frank Thomas, DH Mike Sweeney went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI and his first home run of the season for the A's.

Our View: Sweeney may not have the desired pop in a DH, but he is a great clubhouse guy who is hitting .309. If you own Sweeney you have to hope the A's don't bring in Thomas, cause if they do, Sweeney's value will take a big hit.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersFriday 4/18, 6:27 PM CT
Mike Sweeney will face his former team the Royals this weekend, the squad that he hit .299 for while being named to five all-star teams, this according to MLB.com. "It's probably going to be a little more emotional for Sweeney when we travel to Kansas City," manager Bob Geren said. "But there's a whole lot of guys who play against their former team nowadays."

Our View: Sweeney could see a continuation of his early season workload as the A's just lost Dan Johnson to the Rays. Sweeney, hitting .275 with three RBI in 51 AB, still can swing the bat giving him value in AL Only leagues.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersSunday 3/30, 5:40 PM CT
Mike Sweeney blasted a three run homer in Oakland's final game of spring training against the Giants on Sunday. He ended with 13 RBI and a .302 average.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersWednesday 3/26, 10:03 AM CT
Mike Sweeney received his first starting assignment for his new team on Wednesday, and responded with two hits and a run scored. The lifetime Royal pinch hit in game one, but with the Red Sox starting left-hander Jon Lester in game two, Sweeney got the nod as the A's designated hitter.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersMonday 3/17, 8:56 AM CT
Mike Sweeney was informed Sunday that he will travel with the A's to Japan on Wednesday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. That should pretty much lock his roster spot up for the regular season, since the A's have a deadline of March 19 to tell the non-roster player what they plan to do with him. Sweeney's made it a pretty easy call by hitting .364 and staying healthy this spring. Assuming the A's do add him to their 25-man roster, Sweeney will find his work as a backup DH.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersSaturday 3/15, 7:57 PM CT
Mike Sweeney continues to hit well for Oakland as he recorded his first home run of the spring on Saturday, which was good for two runs. He now has 10 RBI for the spring and has a great shot to make the final roster with a bench job.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersSaturday 3/8, 11:34 PM CT
Mike Sweeney continues to push his value as a bat that should be in the order, hitting 2-for-3 with two runs scored in Oakland's split-squad victory over Seattle, 5-2. He's hitting over .500 this spring and appears to have his old magic working at the plate once more. The hope was to earn a spot as the backup DH or 1B. If he keeps it up, a shot at forcing opportunity seems all too certain.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersWednesday 3/5, 8:13 PM CT
Mike Sweeney recorded two doubles and three RBIs, going 3-for-3 in Oakland's 15-4 trouncing of the Padres in the Cactus League today, according to the Associated Press. Sweeney has struggled to regain his old form, but veteran have a knack for playing like the days of old when they come to Oakland. Thus far he is hitting .500 (7-for-14) in spring training, a good sign for his effort to earn a job as the backup 1B/DH.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersSunday 2/10, 4:44 PM CT
It's official according to the Athletics team website. Mike Sweeney's days with the Kansas City Royals are over. On Sunday, he agreed to a Minor League contract with the Oakland A's. Sweeney said he'd report to the A's Major League camp on Wednesday with pitchers and catchers. "They want me to play first base and DH and be a veteran presence for the younger guys like Eric Chavez," Sweeney said from his San Diego home. Sweeney's at-bats will be limited playing behind Dan Johnson, Daric Barton and Jack Cust and expecting him to stay healthy if he did play is truly the definition of fantasy-insanity.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersThursday 2/7, 10:33 PM CT
Mike Sweeney worked out Tuesday for the Padres at Petco Park near his home in San Diego, according to the Kansas City Star. The Padres are in search of a power hitting backup for starting first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. With Sweeney's chronic back issue, the former Royal would have more fantasy value in the American League where he could occasionally fill the role of designated hitter.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersSunday 2/3, 8:45 AM CT
Mike Sweeney has shown interest in signing with the Padres, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. He'll work out for the club next week. The 34-year-old Sweeney missed most of the past two seasons with injuries but could provide some depth for the Padres.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersWednesday 10/31, 10:42 AM CT
Mike Sweeney's five-year, $55 million contract expired at the end of the season, and he filed for free agency on Tuesday, according to the AP. Sweeney has chronic back problems that will more than likely keep him from ever being a full-time player again. Look for him to stay in the American League so he can still DH on a regular basis.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersThursday 9/20, 11:16 AM CT
Mike Sweeney, who has missed the last five games with a sore groin, could return to the lineup this afternoon, according to the Kansas City Star. "My groin is fine," Sweeney said. "I feel healthy. The last couple of days I've been ready to play so I'm taking the approach I'm being benched."
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersWednesday 9/19, 11:13 AM CT
Mike Sweeney has missed the last four games with a tight groin, but he insists that he's ready to play, according to the Kansas City Star. "In my mind and in my heart," Sweeney said, "I'm ready to go." Manager Buddy Bell said Sweeney could return to the lineup either today or Thursday.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersMonday 9/17, 11:12 PM CT

Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersSunday 9/16, 10:05 PM CT

Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersSunday 9/16, 10:31 AM CT
Mike Sweeney is dealing with a strained right groin, an injury he suffered while running the bases on Friday, according to the Kansas City Star. "It's a lot better after getting some treatment," he said, "and I'm hoping to be ready to go (today). But it's a day-to-day thing. I'm hoping and praying that I'll wake up (today) and be ready to go." It's expected to be at least a couple of days before Sweeney is ready to play.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersSunday 9/16, 3:27 AM CT
Mike Sweeney (strained right groin) wasn't in the lineup Saturday night, the AP reports. He was injured after hitting an RBI double in the fifth inning Friday night. Sweeney said he hopes to play Sunday, but more likely would return Monday.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersThursday 9/6, 10:30 AM CT
Mike Sweeney was worried that his hand was broken after being hit by a pitch in Wednesday's game. He got some encouraging news, though. "It's not broken," Sweeney said. "The X-rays came back negative, thank God. Just a little swollen and sore. I'll be ready Friday (for the series opener against the Yankees)."
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersSaturday 9/1, 8:51 AM CT
The Royals activated Mike Sweeney before the second game of Friday's doubleheader. Sweeney, who picked up a pinch-hit single, had been sidelined due to knee surgery.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersThursday 8/30, 4:30 AM CT

Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersSunday 8/26, 8:18 AM CT
Mike Sweeney was 1-for-3 in his rehab game on Saturday with Triple-A Omaha. He's now 2-for-6 over two games, as he continues to work his way back from knee surgery. If all goes well, he's expected to wrap up his rehab stint on Friday.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersFriday 8/24, 11:45 AM CT
The Royals might be more willing to re-sign Mike Sweeney if Billy Butler proves capable at first base, according to the Kansas City Star. Sweeney's contract expires after the season. We think the Royals would be best served to move on and let Sweeney walk, unless the veteran is willing to come back at a discounted price. As for the rest of this season, Sweeney hasn’t played since June 17 and is only now ready to start a minor-league rehab assignment after undergoing surgery July 5 to correct a cartilage defect under his right knee.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersSunday 8/19, 4:51 AM CT
Mike Sweeney, who had surgery July 5 on his right knee, will probably begin a minor league rehab assignment sometime early next week, the AP reports. He had difficulty running the bases earlier this month, delaying his progress. The Royals want him to test his knee a bit more before they send him out. "He'll be back in a few weeks and we look forward to that," manager Buddy Bell said.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersFriday 8/10, 8:35 PM CT
Mike Sweeney has had difficulty running the bases, delaying a minor league rehab assignment for him. He had surgery July 5 on his right knee. Sweeney had hoped to start his rehab on Monday, but it's not clear now when he'll start, according to the AP.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersWednesday 8/8, 9:02 PM CT
Mike Sweeney has begun hitting and working out, as he recovers from knee surgery. It appears that he could return to action in a couple of weeks, according to the AP. The brittle Sweeney will have to avoid any setbacks to make that timetable come to fruition, though.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersThursday 8/2, 10:18 AM CT
Mike Sweeney continues his rehabilitation from arthroscopic knee surgery, but he might not be back in the lineup until September, reports the team's official website. Rookie Billy Butler remains the team's every day designated hitter in Sweeney's absence.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersSunday 7/8, 6:05 AM CT
The prognosis for Mike Sweeney is worse than originally thought, according to the AP. The Royals now say he'll be out at least another six weeks following arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. "They had to do a little more than they anticipated," said manager Buddy Bell. "He had a couple of chunks of cartilage that was underneath the surface. It was a little more than they thought, so it's going to be six weeks at least." Billy Butler will continue to fill in as the team's designated hitter.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersThursday 7/5, 9:34 AM CT
Mike Sweeney expects to miss two to six weeks after undergoing surgery today to alleviate ongoing pain in his right knee. "I have cartilage under my kneecap that is softening or degenerative," Sweeney told the Kansas City Star. "They found something floating in there. I don't know if it's a bone chip or cartilage or what. But it hurts like the dickens." Billy Butler will handle the club's DH duties while Sweeney is sidelined.
Mike Sweeney, DH, Seattle MarinersThursday 7/5, 6:13 AM CT
