Alan Embree, P, Colorado RockiesWednesday 8/12, 6:50 PM CT
Alan Embree (broken leg) has been transferred to the 60-day disabled list.

Our View: Embree had been hoping to return to the Rox this season, but this move makes it very unlikely that he will. With his ERA over 5.00 since the beginning of 2008, his career could be over, too.
Alan Embree, P, Colorado RockiesMonday 7/20, 8:16 PM CT
Alan Embree is hopeful of returning to the Rockies' bullpen before the end of the season, according to the Denver Post. He is recovering from a fractured right tibia.

Our View: He hopes to return in September, barring a setback. This is encouraging, but Embree did not hold much fantasy value prior to going down, with a 5.84 ERA and 1.62 WHIP over 24.2 innings of relief.

Alan Embree has been placed on the 15-day DL with a fractured right tibia, according to TSN. Matt Belisle was recalled to replace him on the roster.

Our View: Fantasy owners should not be waiting for him to return, as he is expected to miss the remainder of the 2009 campaign.

Alan Embree will be out the remainder of 2009 after a line drive broke his left leg in the seventh inning of the Rockies' game against the Braves on Friday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Embree was not pitching very well in 2009, so his injury has few fantasy implications. The Rockies have not yet said who will take his roster spot.

Alan Embree was struck in the right shin by a line drive hit by Martin Prado in tonight's battle against Atlanta, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: He was taken off the field on a cart, and the severity of the injury is yet to be determined.

In a bit of an interesting note, Rockies' reliever Alan Embree picked up the win on Tuesday despite not throwing a single pitch in the game, according to the Providence Journal. Embree entered the game with two outs in the eighth inning, and picked off the Nationals' Austin Kearns at first base.

Our View: Talk about an easy day at the office. It was the first time a pitcher has gotten a win without throwing a pitch since B.J. Ryan did it for the Orioles in 2003. Embree has no fantasy value, because unfortunately when he does throw pitches, the tend to get hit hard.

Alan Embree was excused from camp Sunday for undisclosed personal reasons, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: The 38-year-old lefty is only worth consideration in deeper leagues that feature middle men.

The AP reports that left-handed reliever Alan Embree was guaranteed $2.25 million in his one-year contract with the Colorado Rockies. Embree has a $2 million salary next year, and the deal contains a $3 million team option for 2010 with a $250,000 buyout.

Our View: Embree was 2-5 with a 4.96 ERA in 70 games last season for the Oakland Athletics, who declined a $3 million option. The 38-year-old left-hander has played on nine major league teams including Oakland.

Reliever Alan Embree signed the deal he agreed on with the Colorado Rockies, according to The Sports Network.

Our View: The deal is for one year with a mutual option. The 39-year-old lefty threw 61.2 innings and struck out 57 while walking 30.
Alan Embree, P, Colorado RockiesWednesday 12/10, 10:47 AM CT
Alan Embree has agreed to a one-year deal with the Rockies, according to ESPN. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View: The deal won't be officially announced until after Thursday's Rule 5 draft. Embree was only given a one-year deal, namely because he is 39 years old.

The Rockies are nearing an agreement with free agent Alan Embree on a one-year deal, according to the Denver Post. An American League West scout who watched the 38-year-old extensively last season said his arm strength remains a plus — he was hitting 92 to 94 miles per hour. Embree's signing is not expected to be finalized until Friday after the Rule 5 draft.

Our View: The lefty went 2-5 with a 4.96 ERA in 70 games for Oakland last season. It was an 11th-hour decision for the A's not to offer him arbitration last week.
Alan Embree, P, Colorado RockiesMonday 12/1, 7:26 AM CT
The Athletics are likely to offer Class-B free agent Alan Embree salary arbitration, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: The club has some interest in bringing him back, so there is less risk if he decides to accept the arbitration offer. If he signs with another MLB team, Oakland would acquire a draft pick. Embree is on the Rockies' list of targets among lefty relievers.
Alan Embree, P, Colorado RockiesSunday 11/30, 10:20 AM CT
Oakland is trying to decide whether or not to offer Alan Embree arbitration, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: The Rockies' top priority is a lefty reliever, and Embree is on their list of targets.
Alan Embree, P, Colorado RockiesTuesday 11/25, 11:03 AM CT
Alan Embree is on the Rockies' radar, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: The club would add the lefty reliever to shore up their bullpen, but he held a barely passable 1.44 WHIP in 2008, and would not be helped by playing his home games at launching pad Coors Field.
Alan Embree, P, Colorado RockiesFriday 10/31, 5:01 PM CT
The AP reports that the Oakland Athletics declined their $3 million option for lefty reliever Alan Embree on Friday.

Our View: Embree went 2-5 with a 4.96 ERA in 70 outings this past season after going 1-2 with 17 saves and a 3.97 ERA in 68 appearances in 2007. The 38-year-old will surely find another team to pitch for by spring training.

The team will make a decision on Alan Embree's $3 million option after the World Series, according to the SF Chronicle.

Alan Embree, P, Colorado RockiesFriday 9/28, 12:11 PM CT
Alan Embree is expected to rejoin the A's today after being away from the team while tending to a family matter, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Embree hasn't pitched since Sept. 15 - not that fantasy owners are too overly concerned about it.
Alan Embree, P, Colorado RockiesThursday 8/16, 12:24 AM CT
Alan Embree worked the eighth inning Wednesday against Chicago - giving up two runs - while Huston Street came on for the save in the ninth, striking out the side. And with that, it looks like things could be back to normal in the Oakland bullpen going forward, with Embree working in a set-up role and Street reclaiming his closer job. We'll see what the A's say about this as the week goes along, but even if Embree's ninth-inning work is done for the year, he had a heck of a run - 15 saves that no one expected. Stay tuned.
Alan Embree, P, Colorado RockiesThursday 6/28, 5:03 AM CT
Alan Embree will stay in the closer's role despite allowing five ninth-inning runs in Tuesday's 8-5 loss at Cleveland, the AP reports. "He's done a great job," manager Bob Geren said Wednesday. "He will continue to get the ball in the ninth inning." Embree, who has converted eight of 10 save chances, pitched Monday and Tuesday, throwing a total of 46 pitches.

Alan Embree, P, Colorado RockiesWednesday 5/23, 11:09 AM CT
Alan Embree will "more often than not" be Oakland's closer while Huston Street and Justin Duchscherer are on the disabled list, Bob Geren told the San Francisco Chronicle. Embree has mediocre stats so far in 2007 (3.93 ERA, 1.58 ratio, .324 batting-average against), though he did pick up a save Friday against the Giants.
