Craig Biggio, 2B, Thursday 8/14, 12:52 PM CT
The Astros are going to retire uniform No. 7 to honor Craig Biggio, according to the AP. Biggio becomes the ninth Astro to have his uniform number retired, joining Jim Umbricht (32), Don Wilson (40), Jose Cruz (25), Mike Scott (30), Nolan Ryan (34), Larry Dierker (49), Jimmy Wynn (24) and Jeff Bagwell (5).

Our View: Biggio is the Astros’ all-time leader in hits (3,060), games, runs scored and at-bats. He retired at the end of the 2007 season following a 20-year career, all in Houston. Biggio is the only player in major league history to surpass 600 doubles, 250 home runs, 3,000 hits and 400 stolen bases.

Although Astros manager Phil Garner often gives Craig Biggio the day off on Sunday, he said he will likely play the second baseman today against St. Louis, the AP reports. Garner says he is cognizant of the fact that a lot of home fans would be disappointed if Biggio didn't play. "I like to try to play him at home as much as possible," Garner said. "If I drove an hour or something to the game, I'd like to see him play." Garner would also be wise to consider Biggio's home/road splits; the veteran hit .298 at Houston last year (along with 15 of his 21 homers), but Biggio's average dropped to .178 on the road.
