Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 9/29, 4:25 PM CT
The St. Louis Post Dispatch reports. Scott Rolen is back in the lineup for the Reds on Tuesday after dealing with back spasms.

Our View: Rolen missed the Reds past two games against the Astros, but his back is healthy enough to return to action. This will be his first series against the Cardinals since leaving the team. The Reds visited St. Louis last month, but Rolen missed the series due to concussion symptoms.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 9/22, 10:04 PM CT
Scott Rolen led the charge for the Reds in Tuesday's 10-4 win over the Pirates. He went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and three RBI.

Our View: Rolen has more or less been a dud since coming to the Reds, so it's nice to see him have a productive game. Coming into play on Tuesday he was hitting just .214 in September and had only homered twice since July 27th.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 9/15, 9:28 PM CT
Scott Rolen went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI in the Reds 5-4 come from behind win over the Astros on Tuesday.

Our View: Rolen hasn't been the same player since coming over from Toronto and the third baseman has been especially cold in September. He's amassed just 15 total bases this month.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 9/9, 10:50 PM CT
Scott Rolen picked a dramatic time to hit his second home run with the Reds on Wednesday, blasting a solo shot in the ninth inning to untie a 2-2 game. In typical Reds fashion, however, they would immediately cough the lead up in the bottom of the ninth, losing 4-3 in Colorado.

Our View: In 21 games with the Reds in 2009, Rolen is now batting .278 with two home runs and ten RBI.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 9/2, 11:43 AM CT
Scott Rolen is out of the Reds lineup on Wednesday, according to MLBlogs.com.

Our View: It is just a day of rest for Rolen, and not related to the concussion he suffered last month. Expect him to be back in the Reds lineup when they play the Braves on Friday.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsSunday 8/30, 4:26 PM CT
Scott Rolen went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in the Reds 3-2 loss to the Dodgers on Sunday.

Our View: Rolen has rebounded nicely since coming off the DL with a nasty concussion after being hit in dome by a pitch. He's 10-for-30 since returning to action.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 8/26, 11:03 PM CT
Scott Rolen went 2-for-5 with a stolen base on Wednesday, helping the Reds past Milwaukee 4-3 in ten innings on the road.

Our View: Rolen, thankfully, has had few problems since being activated from the disabled list after sustaining a concussion in early august, going 6-for-15.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsSunday 8/23, 11:06 AM CT
As expected, Scott Rolen has been activated from the 15-day disabled list, according to Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse.

Our View: By all means, get him back into your lineup next week - just don't expect too much production from him. He is coming back from a concussion, and the Reds offense has been one of the worst in baseball this season, so it's hard to envision him putting up big numbers.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 8/22, 7:04 PM CT
Scott Rolen is expected to be activated and in the Reds lineup on Sunday, according to the Twitter page of MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo. Rolen has been on the DL while dealing with post-concussion symptoms.

Our View: The plan all along has been that Rolen would be activated tomorrow, so it looks like he is on track. He should be good to go for fantasy owners so get him in the lineupbefore Sunday's game.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 8/19, 4:27 PM CT
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Reds' third baseman Scott Rolen will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville on Thursday. Rolen has been on the DL since August 11 with post-concussion symptoms.

Our View: Rolen is expected to be activated on Sunday, so Rolen owners need to be ready to activate him as well. It looks like he is feeling much better, so he should be a regular in the lineup when he returns.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 8/11, 5:11 PM CT
Dealing with the after effects of a concussion, Scott Rolen was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday, according to MLB.com's Mark Sheldon.

Our View: Not that the team could have foreseen Rolen getting hit in the head, but this trade just keeps looking worse and worse for the Reds. With his long and winding injury history, don't expect there to be a quick comeback.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsSunday 8/9, 6:32 PM CT
Scott Rolen was re-evaluated in Cincinnati by specialist Dr. John Brannan for concussion-like symptoms Sunday, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Rolen will remain on the shelf for several more days before getting the green light to return. Keep him out of lineups until further notice.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 8/8, 4:13 PM CT
According to John Fayman on Twitter, Scott Rolen is out of the lineup Sturday due to concussion-like symptoms.

Our View: Rolen has been scattered in and out of the lineup all week since getting plunked in the head by Jason Marquis. Rolen is extremely injury prone and has been throughout his career, so one has to wonder if this is going to turn into something serious. Beware of post concussion syndrome. It's not exclusive to hockey players.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 8/5, 9:01 PM CT
After missing the team's past two games after getting hit in the head on Sunday, newest Red Scott Rolen homered on Wednesday night, helping the Reds and Justin Lehr shutout the Cubs 4-0 at home.

Our View: Say what you will about the wisdom of the Reds acquiring a 34-year-old third baseman on the downslope of his career - dude can still hit, and will likely keep doing so for the rest of 2009, especially in the cozy Great American Ballpark.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 8/5, 3:43 PM CT
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Scott Rolen is back in the Reds' lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

Our View: Rolen will play third and hit fifth, after not appearing in a game since being beaned in the head on Sunday against the Rockies. He should be fine to insert back into fantasy lineups as well.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 8/4, 6:41 PM CT
The Boston Globe is reporting that the results of the CT scan on the head of Scott Rolen came back normal. Rolen is expected to return to the lineup in the next few days.

Our View: The injury to Rolen's head wasn't believed to be serious, but it is always good to get a positive test back on an injury to that party of the body. Expect him to return to the lineup soon.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 8/4, 3:15 PM CT
Scott Rolen will miss his second straight game on Tuesday after getting hit in the head in his second game with the Reds on Sunday, according to MLB.com's Mark Sheldon.

Our View: No word on whether or not the injury is a concussion yet. Sadly for the Reds, their disastrous trade appears to be getting off to a disastrous start.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsMonday 8/3, 1:58 PM CT
Scott Rolen is not in the Reds' lineup for their Monday night game against the Chicago Cubs. He will be replaced by Adam Rosales at third base.

Our View: Rolen left Sunday's game after being hit on the head by Jason Marquis pitch, but the injury is not considered serious. This is more precautionary than anything, but Rolen owners should monitor the situation for his status for tomorrow's game.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsSunday 8/2, 5:31 PM CT
Scott Rolen left Sunday's game against the Rockies in the seventh inning after getting beaned in the helmet by a Jason Marquis fastball.

Our View: Marquis and Rolen were teammates in St. Louis, so this probably wasn't a result of bad blood. The injury didn't seem serious either, as Rolen wasn't down long and walked off under his own power. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 8/1, 3:22 PM CT
Scott Rolen is in the lineup and will bat fifth for the Reds on Saturday, the Cincinnati Enquirer confirms.

Our View: Rolen takes over a nice slot right behind Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips. He will hopefully have more RBI chances in his new home and his value should increase after the move out of Toronto.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsFriday 7/31, 3:07 PM CT
Updating a previous report, Scott Rolen is expected to waive his no trade clause and will head to Cincinnati to become the Reds' newest third baseman, according to FOXSports.com.

Our View: The Blue Jays will receive Edwin Encarnacion and a minor leaguer in return. Rolen has plenty of reasons (as stated previously) to head to Cincy, and if his resurgence this season is no fluke he should see an increase in power by playing half his games in the Great American Ballpark. Look for his fantasy value to go North.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsFriday 7/31, 2:46 PM CT
According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Reds have acquired third baseman Scott Rolen from the Blue Jays.

Our View: There is a catch here. Rolen has a no trade clause that he would have to waive for the deal to be complete. It's hard to see him saying no to a return to the NL, a reunion with GM Walt Jocketty, a move that brings him closer to his Indiana home and a chance to stick it to his former team (St. Louis). Stay tuned.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsThursday 7/30, 12:55 PM CT
Scott Rolen to the Reds rumors are still persisting, with there now even being a Reds player, hitting prospect Yonder Alonso, named as who the Blue Jays would receive in return, according to the Providence Journal.

Our View: The Reds' baffling pursuit of the 34-year-old Rolen only appears to be gaining steam, instead of losing it, which many Reds fans surely wish it would. Rolen is hitting .320 this season, but has a laundry list of past injuries and a ton of money still due. And, ohh yeah, the Reds are ten games under .500 and already have a third baseman, Edwin Encarnacion. Strange times in Cincy indeed.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 7/28, 12:00 PM CT
The Reds are still pursuing Scott Rolen, according to FoxSports.com.

Our View: That should read "for some reason" the Reds are still pursuing Scott Rolen. There's no doubt he is having a good season in 2009, but is quickly aging and owed a ton of money over the next year and a half. It's been rumored the Reds would have to give up Edwin Encarnacion in return, which makes any potential deal even more head-scratching for the non-contending team. Apparently Walt Jocketty wants to show that he's traded for Scott Rolen before and that he can do it again.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsSunday 7/26, 3:01 PM CT
The resurgent Scott Rolen had another nice day at the plate on Sunday as the Blue Jays beat the Rays 5-1. Rolen went 2-for-4 with a home run, a run scored, and three RBI in the win.

Our View: Rolen has the average up to .318 on the year, and although he only has eight home runs, he is still a strong fantasy play. As long as he stays healthy for the rest of the year, he should continue to hit the ball well and contribute in all aspects of the game.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 7/25, 4:45 PM CT
According to FOXSports.com, the Reds are interested in Blue Jays' third baseman Scott Rolen.

Our View: Apparently the two teams have been in discussions for the past few days. Rolen is having a fine bounce back campaign in Toronto this season, hitting .316, but it seems odd that the Reds would be trying to make a move when they could be eight games out of first at the end of play Saturday. Should a deal get done regardless, they would likely have to include third baseman Edwin Encarnacion. We'll keep you posted.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 7/21, 9:09 PM CT
Scott Rolen went 2-for-4 with a solo homer off Cliff Lee in tonight's 2-1 loss to the Indians at the Rogers Centre. His other knock was a single.

Our View: The Jays only mustered seven hits in the game, and Rolen was their lone source of scoring. Rolen has two hits in two of his last three games, and raised his team-leading batting average to .320.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 7/14, 3:48 PM CT
According to the Twitter page of Toronto sports columnist Jeff Blair, the Red Sox are very interested in Blue Jays' third baseman Scott Rolen. The team is concerned with the health of Mike Lowell, and manager Terry Francona is said to be a big fan of Rolen.

Our View: Rolen is getting a ton of interest on the market at this point, mainly due to the fact that he has shown the league he can still hit. Look for the Sox to make some kind of move if they don't feel they can rely on Lowell, and Rolen could be a good option for them.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsFriday 7/10, 8:51 AM CT
The Cincinnati Reds are interested in acquiring Scott Rolen, according to the Toronto Sun.

Our View: Reds GM Walt Jocketty has already traded for Scott Rolen once, in 2002 as GM of the Cardinals. Rolen is currently on a 25-game hitting streak, and third in the American League in hitting at .330. With him would come hefty salaries for the rest of this season and next, though, so how likely this really is isn't clear. The Reds are rumored, however, to have even offered their 26-year-old starting third baseman Edwin Encarnacion in return, so they could be dead serious.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsThursday 7/9, 9:41 AM CT
Blue Jays' beat writer Jordan Bastian is reporting on his Twitter page that third baseman Scott Rolen is not in the team's lineup for their Thursday afternoon game against the Rays. Rolen will be replaced by Jose Bautista at third.

Our View: Rolen is in the middle of a 25-game hitting streak, but manager Cito Gaston felt like Rolen could use a day off today. Hopefully this won't affect his hotness at the plate, but fantasy owners should get him out today if possible. He will play tomorrow, so get him back in after the game today.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 7/8, 10:28 PM CT
Scott Rolen extended his hitting streak to 25-games on Wednesday night with a 3-for-5 performance against the Rays. He doubled, drove in a run and scored a run in the Jays' 10-9 loss.

Our View: Rolen continues to amaze this season. He's now hitting .330 to lead the Jays in average and has been a model of efficiency in the cleanup spot this season. He could use a few more RBI (34) in that damage spot though. Still, the hit streak should keep owners from complaining.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 7/7, 9:50 PM CT
Scott Rolen went 1-for-5 with a single, and recorded the Jays' lone RBI in tonight's 3-1 loss at Tampa Bay.

Our View: The Jays had 10 hits, but stranded 16 men on base. Rolen extended his hitting streak to 24 games, and continues to lead Toronto with a .325 batting average.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 6/17, 8:59 PM CT
Scott Rolen was 2-for-5 with a home run, a stolen base, two RBI, and a run scored as Toronto defeated Philadelphia 7-1 on Wednesday.

Our View: Rolen has a seven game hitting streak going in which he's totaled 15 hits and raised his average from .294 to .325. He does not deliver much power, but he scores runs and is producing a very good average.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 6/9, 11:36 PM CT
Scott Rolen went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's 9-0 win at Texas. He had a double and a pair of singles.

Our View: Rolen is hot as he has three hits in back-to-back games. He raised his season average to .314.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsSunday 6/7, 1:15 PM CT
Scott Rolen is not in Sunday's lineup against Kansas City while nursing a stiff back, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Juan Bautista replaces him at third base. Manager Cito Gaston noted that the severity of Rolen's ailment is yet to be determined, but is hopeful Rolen will be able to return Monday against the Rangers.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsFriday 5/29, 10:48 PM CT
Scott Rolen was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI in the Blue Jays' 6-3 win over the Red Sox on Friday.

Our View: Rolen has been surprisingly good this season. The smooth-fielding third baseman has a .302 average and has 15 doubles to go with three homers and 18 RBI. He's a good waiver pick in mixed leagues if your third baseman goes down with an injury.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 5/13, 9:53 PM CT
Scott Rolen provided another solid performance on Wednesday, going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Rolen is hitting .325 on the year.

Our View: He may not be the fantasy player he once was, but his .325 average is keeping him valid in fantasy circles. The power is not going to be there, but he is a solid option in all leagues if he keeps hitting like this.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 5/12, 9:03 PM CT
Scott Rolen continued his solid season with a 3-for-4 effort on Tuesday. He drove in three of the Blue Jays five runs as they whipped the Yankees 5-1.

Our View: Last year it looked like Toronto got the short end of the stick in the Rolen-Troy Glaus trade, but 2009 is a different story. Glaus won't play until after the All Star break (if at all) and Rolen is chugging along with a .319 average and 15 RBI. He's emerged as a surprisingly solid fantasy third baseman.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsThursday 5/7, 12:24 AM CT
Scott Rolen continued his impressive start to the season as he had two hits and two RBI in four at-bats. Rolen is now hitting .317 with 12 RBI through 26 games played.

Our View: Rolen has only gone deep three times, but his.300+ average with an OBP approaching .400 is about all you could ask for from a guy who has been a walking band aide for the past few seasons.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 5/2, 11:56 AM CT
Third baseman Scott Rolen is out of the lineup on Saturday. Jose Bautista will start at third against the Orioles.

Our View: Rolen has been swinging pretty well, but the Blue Jays are presumably just letting him rest because this is a day game after a night contest.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 4/14, 11:49 PM CT
Scott Rolen had another solid outing at the plate, going 2-for-4 in the Blue Jays extra-inning loss to the Twins on Tuesday. He raised his average to .406.

Our View: Rolen obviously won't hit .400 for much longer, but it's nice to see him get off to a hot start. Beware of injuries though as Rolen's history of ailments leads one to believe he's made of glass.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 4/7, 9:15 PM CT
Scott Rolen hit his first home run of the season Tuesday against Detroit. He finished Toronto's 5-4 loss 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Our View: At age 34, Rolen's better days are behind him, but it was nice to see him get off to a solid start. He'll be nothing more than a waiver player in AL-only leagues, but it's still possible he can surpass last season's home run total of 11.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 4/1, 2:32 PM CT
Scott Rolen went 2-for-2 with a walk, a home run, a double, a run scored, and two runs scored in Wednesday's 7-6 win over the Nationals. He also committed his first error of the spring.

Our View: Rolen has been limited to 30 at-bats this spring due to a sore back, but he still figures to be the opening day starter at the hot corner. In those 30 at-bats, he has six extra base hits, including an improbable two triples. He managed 408 at-bats last season, and another 400 in 2009 would be considered a success.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsThursday 3/19, 10:29 AM CT
Scott Rolen tweaked his back during Wednesday's game and was forced to exit, according to the Toronto Star.

Our View: He is being re-examined today, and we will keep you posted on his status.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsSunday 3/15, 4:31 PM CT
Scott Rolen started at third base for the Blue Jays in their 5-4 win over the Reds on Sunday. He was 0-for-2 with two whiffs.

Our View: Rolen is a fair 4-for-12 this spring, but he has produced two doubles and a home run in those four hits. His shoulder remains a concern, and 125 games may be an optimistic projection. The good news is that he finished last season on a high note, while flashing plenty of power in the final month. He's a certain risk who carries some reward.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsFriday 9/26, 9:04 PM CT
Scott Rolen went 2-for-3 with an RBI in Friday's 3-0 win over Baltimore. The game was called in the seventh inning due to rain. He hit a single and a double, his 30th of the season.

Our View: Rolen has 50 RBI for the season, with 11 coming in September.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 9/20, 3:01 PM CT
Scott Rolen went 2-for-4 with a home run in the Blue Jays 6-3 win over Boston on Saturday.

Our View: Rolen has actually had a solid month of September, hitting .299 with two home runs and eight RBI. His fantasy value is slim to none for the rest of his career because he'll never again have a healthy shoulder.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 9/17, 9:07 PM CT
Scott Rolen had a big night at the plate in the Blue Jays' 8-7 win over the Orioles. In four at-bats Rolen had two doubles and a triple.

Our View: Rolen is still one of the best defensive third baseman in the league but the days of Rolen being a productive hitter have come to end. In 2008 he has only hit nine home runs and is averaging .253. These numbers are the reason why Rolen is no longer a formidable fantasy asset.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsThursday 9/4, 12:28 PM CT
Scott Rolen believes he can still be a productive major league player now that he has made some adjustments to his batting stance, according to the Toronto Star. Rolen lowered his hands to account for range of motion issues that have occurred due to his shoulder woes.

Our View: It's clear that Rolen will probably never be the same player he had been. His days of being a productive offensive player for fantasy owners are likely over.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsThursday 8/28, 7:29 PM CT
Scott Rolen was out of the Jays lineup on Thursday night as his shoulder continues to bother him, according to MLB.com. Rolen hopes to be in the starting lineup on Friday when the Jays take on the Yankees.

Our View: Rolen's days of effectiveness at the plate appear to be finished, at least for this season. He struggles to do the most rudimentary things at the plate on most days, a fact that the Jays can't be too happy about considering that Rolen is due $26 million over the next two seasons.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 8/26, 5:53 PM CT
The Blue Jays activated Scott Rolen from the DL Tuesday. He has been out with soreness in his left shoulder.

Our View: Rolen could help out AL-only squads a bit, but that's assuming his shoulder doesn't act up again.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 8/19, 7:04 PM CT
Scott Rolen is currently rehabbing his sore left shoulder in Florida. The trainers are trying to "break up" the tissue in his shoulder to provide the third baseman with more flexibility, manager Cito Gaston informs MLB.com. Gaston is not sure if Rolen will be able to return to the lineup by next Tuesday, August 26.

Our View: Fantasy owners shouldn't be waiting on Rolen, who has a long history of left shoulder injuries.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsSunday 8/10, 7:45 PM CT
Third baseman Scott Rolen was placed on the 15-day disabled list with continued soreness in his left shoulder, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Think the Blue Jays might want Troy Glaus back? Rolen's shoulder has been a problem for four seasons now, as he has undergone surgery on it three times since 2005. He'll clearly never be the same player he once was, and isn't someone who needs to be on fantasy rosters.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsSunday 8/10, 12:32 PM CT
Scott Rolen was scratched from Sunday's lineup due to his sore left shoulder, according to the AP.

Our View: He was replaced at third base by Marco Scutaro. Rolen is not hurting that much, but doesn't have a lot of mobility. The team is trying to get it stretched out so he can have more. He should be avoided in standard mixed leagues until he proves he can be effective again.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsFriday 8/8, 8:51 PM CT
Scott Rolen will not be in the lineup on Saturday as the team will give his sore left shoulder a rest, according to MLB.com. "I'll try to give a day game off after a night game," manager Cito Gaston said.

Our View: Rolen is clearly a shadow of his former self at the plate where he has a mere seven home runs and a .250 batting average, terrible production for a player who used to regularly hit .280 with 25 home runs. Don't expect that type of production to return this season.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsThursday 8/7, 9:22 PM CT
Batting in the eight hole, Toronto third baseman Scott Rolen went 1-for-3, scored two runs and drove in two as the Jays beat the A's 6-4.

Our View: Rolen is a shell of what he used to be offensively, and he has nearly no value in fantasy leagues anymore.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 8/5, 5:13 PM CT
Scott Rolen is listed as the starter for Tuesday's game against the A's. He has missed the last two contests due to pain in his left shoulder.

Our View: Rolen has shown very little pop since late June, and we can't help but wonder how long his oft-injured shoulder has been bothering him. Fantasy owners should not expect much over the final two months.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsMonday 8/4, 5:41 PM CT
Toronto third baseman Scott Rolen will not play tonight as he rests his ailing left shoulder, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Rolen has not been good this season, hitting just .254 with seven home runs and 36 RBI, and he hit a horrid .163 in July. His glory days in fantasy baseball are over, and should you have him in an AL-only league, remember that Rolen will be rested a lot unless his shoulder health improves.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsFriday 8/1, 9:04 PM CT
Scott Rolen returned to the lineup on Friday after spending two days on the bench to rest his injured shoulder, and in his first at-bat he homered, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Rolen apparently isn't in pain, but his range of motion continues to be limited which hinders his ability to generate bat speed which has led to his .163 batting average over his past 23 appearances.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 7/30, 2:27 PM CT
Scott Rolen has been scratched from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays with a sore left shoulder, according to the AP.

Our View: Rolen should have been on your bench for today anyway, as he is hitless over his last five games.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 7/30, 12:08 PM CT
Scott Rolen plans to skip some games and cut back on his batting practice while undergoing an “extensive” rehab program for his surgically repaired left shoulder. He said, "I’ve been having some shoulder trouble, some problems with it. Not strength, not flexibility, not surgery. Nothing like that. Mechanically it’s not functioning right. The therapist looked at, the doctor looked at it. I talked to Cito and J.P. and we’re going to try to get some extra days off. I’ll keep playing, keep going out there and doing what I can do, back off in the cage a little bit."

Our View: Rolen is hitless in his last five games as well, and should be left on your bench for the upcoming fantasy week.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsFriday 7/25, 10:22 PM CT
Scott Rolen had a modest six-game hitting streak that ended on Friday in Toronto's victory over Seattle. He went 0-for-5 on the evening.

Our View: Trading Troy Glaus doesn't seem like such a good deal for Toronto now, as Rolen continues the mediocrity he's been mired in since 2005.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsThursday 6/26, 9:29 PM CT
Scott Rolen hit his third home run in four games, cranking a two-run shot off of Cincinnati's Edison Volquez in Toronto's 7-1 victory over the Reds. Rolen has hit half of his six home runs during that span.

Our View: Rolen's days as a fantasy stalwart seem to be over, as he has hit just 14 home runs over the last two seasons, covering 593 at-bats. That is one home run for every 42 AB, hardly the stuff that will win anybody their fantasy league.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 6/24, 9:26 PM CT
With 14 runs scored on the night, more than a few of the Blue Jays are enjoying the rewards of a strong night at the plate in support of the 14-1 win over Cincinnati. The top dog was third baseman Scott Rolen , going 2-for-4 with his 15th double and fifth home run of the season, totaling four RBIs and two runs scored on the night.

Our View: Rolen came in hitting just .239 through June, but he now carries home runs in consecutive games with six RBIs to boot.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsFriday 6/13, 9:36 PM CT
Scott Rolen went deep for the third time this year and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Cubs 3-2 on Friday night.

Our View: Rolen is beginning to drive the ball, and as the air warms the third baseman should power up.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsFriday 5/9, 9:57 PM CT
Toronto's third baseman Scott Rolen went 2-for-4 in Friday's loss to the Indians.

Our View: Rolen now has seven hits in his last 13 at-bats. He's healthy and seeing the ball well in his 13th game since coming off the disabled list.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsFriday 5/9, 2:33 PM CT
Scott Rolen has hit safely in 10 of his last 12 games, according to MLB.com. He has five hits over his last two outings.

Our View: Rolen is hitting .318 over 12 games, with two homers and eight RBI. He also contributed one stolen base. He is proving to be a solid acquisition for the Blue Jays, as well as fantasy squads. He is in good form since returning from injury.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 5/7, 9:09 PM CT
Scott Rolen hit his second home run of the season on Wednesday night as he went 2-for-4 with one run scored and two RBI for the Jays.

Our View: This was the second time in 11 games that Rolen had multiple hits in a game, and it helped to break up a 1-for-9 spell. Rolen still has a lot to prove, but it seems like he finally might be rounding back into shape.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsSunday 4/27, 4:33 PM CT
Scott Rolen homered and drove in two runs in his third game back from the disabled list.

Our View: Rolen, who was activated Friday from the disabled list after fracturing his right middle finger in spring training, homered in the first and has four RBI in three games.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsFriday 4/25, 6:59 PM CT
Scott Rolen was activated Friday from the disabled list, this according to the Associated Press. Rolen has yet to play this season after injuring a finger in spring training. Rolen is in the starting lineup at third base and is batting sixth in the order.

Our View: Rolen hurt the finger on March 23 in a fielding drill and had surgery to implant a pin, then another surgery to remove it.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsFriday 4/25, 10:42 AM CT
Scott Rolen is expected to be activated from the DL in time for Friday's game against the Royals, according to the AP. Rolen has been on the shelf since suffering a non-displaced fracture of his right middle finger during fielding drills before a Grapefruit League game on March 23.

Our View: The Jays have received little production at third base from Marco Scutaro, Joe Inglett, and John McDonald, as the trio has combined to hit a mere .236 with no homers and nine RBI. Rolen will ultimately be a sizable upgrade at the position, but he went 0-for-9 on his rehab assignment, and you should wait before considering him for your lineups.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsThursday 4/24, 4:54 PM CT
Scott Rolen will likely return from his broken middle finger on Friday, this according to the AP. “I’m ready to play,” Rolen said. “I still have a pretty significant bone bruise. I can feel it when I throw, feel it when I hit. I think my options are, take a month and do nothing and wait for it to heal or play. It’s time to play.”

Our View: Well that's a ringing endorsement. Sounds like Rolen isn't sure what he can do, and given that he went 0-for-9 on his rehab assignment, we would caution against anyone counting on Rolen until he proves he is back in the swing of things.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 4/23, 9:22 AM CT
Scott Rolen went 0-for-3 in a rehab start with Class-A Dunedin on Tuesday, according to MLB.com. He sat out Monday's game with flu-like symptoms, but is expected to return to the Blue Jays some time during their 10-day road trip.

Our View: He will start at third base when he returns, hence pushing Marco Scutaro out of the spot. He could post quality numbers for Toronto, and is worth keeping tabs on, especially if you need help at third base.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 4/22, 10:29 PM CT
Scott Rolen could be back with the Blue Jays before the end of the current road trip. "If all goes well," manager John Gibbons informs MLB.com. "As a matter of fact, that's what we're hoping." Rolen has logged three minor league rehab games as he returns from a broken right middle finger. The Blue Jays' road trip runs through May 1.

Our View: If Rolen comes back this weekend, fantasy owners could obviously get him into their lineups for the next period. It sounds like that's the best-case scenario.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsSunday 4/20, 2:17 PM CT
Scott Rolen suited up with Class-A Dunedin today for his first Minor League rehab appearance since the third baseman broke his right middle finger, and is one step closer to joining the Jays, according to MLB.com. Team GM J.P. Ricciardi commented that the plan was for Rolen to appear in Minor League games at third base on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday to continue to test his recovering finger. Following Tuesday's appearance, Ricciardi stated the team will re-evaluate Rolen's status. The team is hoping he can make a swift return, especially following today's release of Frank Thomas.

Our View: He will start at third base when he returns.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 4/16, 9:16 AM CT
Scott Rolen could return in about two weeks as a best-case scenario, according to the Toronto Star. Manager John Gibbons commented that he's pleased by what he's seen of Rolen during these two games in Baltimore, as he is recovering from a broken finger. Gibbons added, "I thought he looked really good. He looks ahead of where I'd expect him to be (after watching him take batting practice with the team)." Rolen will return to Florida today to continue his rehab.

Our View: This is favorable news, and it looks like he is still on pace to return by the end of the month.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsMonday 4/14, 6:15 PM CT
Scott Rolen showed up in the Blue Jays clubhouse on Monday night. He informs the Toronto Star that he's ahead of schedule on his rehab. Rolen is throwing (but not fielding), and he took batting practice on Monday. He is out due to a broken right middle finger and could be back by the end of the month.

Our View: We'll all be happy when someone other than Marco Scutaro and Joe Inglett are holding down the hot corner for the Blue Jays. We'll continue to monitor Rolen's progress.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsMonday 4/7, 8:30 AM CT
Scott Rolen will have the pin removed from his broken right middle finger on Monday, and he remains 2-4 weeks away from returning, the Toronto Star reports. Marco Scutaro is starting in his place.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsThursday 3/27, 4:25 PM CT
Scott Rolen could be sidelined until May due to his broken right middle finger injury, according to MLB.com. Dr. Thomas Graham inserted a pin in the tip of Rolen's finger and he is scheduled to have it taken out on April 7. At that time, it is unclear how much time it will take Rolen to return to the lineup, but Rolen said Graham believed the third baseman could be out until late April or early May. Rolen added, "He gave a four-to-six week window from the time of surgery. We'll all hopefully be optimistic and cut that down as much as we can in the right way, the smart way."
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsMonday 3/24, 8:11 PM CT
Scott Rolen had surgery on Monday to insert a screw into his broken finger, this according to the AP. “It will be in there for 14 days,” general manager J.P. Ricciardi said. “Then they will take the screw out. Then he can start moving his hand and it’s tolerance at that point.” Initial reports pegged the time for a return as anywhere from 2-6 weeks, but given the news of this surgery, two weeks just isn't going to happen. Marc Scutaro figures to play third base until Rolen returns.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsSunday 3/23, 7:44 PM CT
Scott Rolen broke his finger during a fielding drill Sunday, and might not be available for Opening Day, this according to ESPN. Rolen injured the finger taking grounders during a morning field drill. "It ripped his nail completely off his finger," general manager J.P. Ricciardi said. Rolen broke the bone above the top knuckle on his right middle finger. It's unclear how long he will be out. A normal recovery time of a non-displaced fracture is anywhere from 2-6 weeks.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 3/19, 4:03 PM CT
Scott Rolen went 2-for-2 against Boston, and raised his spring average to .346. Rolen will have a chance to drive in a favorable amount of runs in the Jays' lineup.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 3/5, 8:51 PM CT
Scott Rolen has batted second in the Jays lineup the past two games, though manager John Gibbons says that it is just so that Rolen can pick up more AB, this according to MLB.com. "We're trying to get him at least three [at-bats] a day," Gibbons said. "Right now, at this stage, five innings is his limit that we're going with. No, we're not looking at [Rolen batting second in the regular season]." Rolen had only eight HR in 392 AB last season, and the Jays need him to do a whole lot better than that this season since he will hit in a run producing slot in the order.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsMonday 2/25, 10:02 PM CT
Scott Rolen is ready to take on the new challenge of proving that his surgically repaired shoulder is healthy enough to allow him to return to his former all-star self in Toronto this season, according to a report on the Philadelphia Enquirer. Rolen was limited to just 392 AB and eight home runs last season, but he appears fit and ready to replace the power that Troy Glaus took with him to St. Louis as the other party involved in the trade.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsMonday 1/14, 5:58 PM CT
Scott Rolen and Troy Glaus both passed their physicals Monday, which finalizes the swap for the two third basemen. Rolen hit .265 with just eight homers in 392 at-bats last year. He's coming back from shoulder surgery.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 1/12, 12:35 PM CT
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Cardinals and Blue Jays are going to swap third basemen, with Scott Rolen heading north and Troy Glaus to the midwest. Both players are coming off surgeries: Rolen to his right shoulder and Glaus to his left foot. The deal is pending both passing a physical, which isn't a given since both just got cut open.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 12/5, 11:42 AM CT
Not only have talks between the Cardinals and Brewers regarding Scott Rolen stalled, but St. Louis GM John Mozeliak went as far to say as he didn't think Rolen would be going anywhere. "As we sit here now, I would expect Scott Rolen to be part of our team for the 2008 season," Mozeliak said to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. With a deal with Milwaukee all but ruled out, the Cards are reportedly talking with the Dodgers and Giants about Rolen.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 11/14, 11:27 AM CT
The Cardinals have confirmed what has been speculated for weeks now: Third baseman Scott Rolen is available. "What I tried to articulate is how steadfastly we feel about not just giving him away," GM John Mozeliak said in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "Can I envision Scott being part of the 2008 Cardinals? Yes. But could there be a scenario in which something else happens? We're finding that out." The frayed relationship between Rolen and manager Tony La Russa is thought to be irreparable at this point, and that is the main reason why the four-time All-Star and seven-time Gold Glove winner could be moved. However, with his big contract, shoulder woes and poor 2007 season, there probably won't be a long line of teams looking to take Rolen off the Cards' hands.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 10/23, 11:20 AM CT
Tony La Russa has re-upped with the Cardinals, and perhaps his first order of business will be to repair a frayed relationship with third baseman Scott Rolen. "He's probably the guy, the one guy, that has issues with me," La Russa said in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "I'll tell you what I told our organization. Make sure he's in our uniform next year. A healthy Scott Rolen is going to be a premium player. Probably the more upset he is with me, the better he'll play all year." La Russa and Rolen's rift began in 2005 before Rolen had shoulder surgery and worsened and became public in the 2006 NLCS when La Russa did not start Rolen in Game 2. La Russa tried to explain his disconnect by saying Rolen has indicated he would "prefer playing for a manager who just lets the guys play," a less "controlling" manager. Rolen had another shoulder surgery in September but will be ready for spring training.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsSunday 9/2, 6:37 AM CT
Scott Rolen says the season-ending operation to clean up scar tissue in his shoulder will be scheduled soon, the AP reports. The procedure is expected to sideline him 6-8 weeks. "Something has to be done, no question," Rolen said. "Until it's done, it's futile."
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 9/1, 9:26 AM CT
The Cardinals placed Scott Rolen on the disabled list on Friday. He's battling a shoulder injury and likely will undergo surgery to repair the problem, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He'll be examined further next week, at which point we should know whether surgery will be required. Regardless, it's unlikely he'll play again this season.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsFriday 8/31, 12:02 PM CT
Scott Rolen will fly to Cincinnati Friday morning to see Dr. Tim Kremchek, who performed the second of two surgeries on Rolen in 2005 to repair a torn labrum in the third baseman's left shoulder. There's a good chance Rolen will have surgery before the end of the season to relieve tightness in the shoulder caused by scar tissue, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Cardinals GM Walt Jocketty is still hoping Rolen can play a bit before the end of the year. "They say the recovery time for this surgery is about eight weeks," Jocketty said. "So they could do something after the season." Even if Rolen doesn't have surgery yet, he's likely to be placed on the DL today so that the Cards can recall Miguel Cairo from Triple-A Memphis to help out at third.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsThursday 8/30, 12:19 PM CT
It's possible that Scott Rolen has played his last game of the season. The third baseman was out of the lineup Wednesday and Thursday and will have his ailing shoulder re-evaluated Friday, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Rolen said he was in so much pain Tuesday that he "couldn't wait 'till I got out of the game." Trainer Barry Weinberg said of Rolen's shoulder: "Ultimately, inevitably, it will have to be corrected." When asked if Rolen could be out for the season, manager Tony La Russa said, "Yeah, that's a possibility." For now, Brendan Ryan will fill in at third for Rolen, though veteran Miguel Cairo will be called up in September and should get some time there. There's also Scott Spiezio, who is dealing with a substance abuse problem but is expected to return next month.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsThursday 8/30, 4:46 AM CT
Scott Rolen didn't play Wednesday and will also sit Thursday because of his tender left shoulder, the AP reports. Tony La Russa said two recent cortisone shots haven't reduced Rolen's pain. "He's really feeling like he's going backwards," La Russa said. "We'll get back (to St. Louis) on Friday and we'll see where we stand." Rolen's shoulder problems go back two seasons. He had surgery in May 2005 and has had off-and-on problems ever since. "He was going to try and hang in as long as he could," La Russa said. "We'll have to find something at home to make it better."
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 8/22, 5:16 AM CT
Scott Rolen got a scheduled day off Tuesday to rest a sore left shoulder that has bothered him the last month or so, the AP reports. Rolen, who has undergone three surgeries on the shoulder, also is scheduled to get Sunday off. "Mix one in and lighten the load," Rolen said. Par for the course here - Rolen's the type of player who's seldom at 100 percent. It's no surprise his power has been missing for most of the season (eight homers, .404 slugging percentage).
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsMonday 8/6, 11:31 AM CT
The shoulder discomfort that caused Scott Rolen to have a cortisone shot last month has returned, which is why he sat out Sunday's game. "I was struggling," Rolen said in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "It didn't feel the same way as it did shortly after I took the shot. You can draw your own conclusions, but I thought it was a good idea to give it a day if possible." It's unclear when or if Rolen will get another shot. He certainly was hitting much better after getting the shot, though he was starting to struggle again in recent days, going two for his last 15.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsMonday 7/23, 12:17 AM CT
Scott Rolen, who has been battling a shoulder injury, returned to the lineup on Sunday and went 2-for-5 with a three-run homer and a stolen base. "I'm comfortable," Rolen told the AP. "I'm not hurt. I'm physically limited. My job is to go out there and play. So I'm going to play. I'm not going to hurt myself." Even with Rolen's promising night, we're still not optimistic about his second-half production, as his shoulder still isn't 100 percent.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsSunday 7/22, 6:43 AM CT
Scott Rolen took batting practice Saturday for the first time since having an arthogram on his left shoulder, the AP reports. Rolen said he believes he will return to the lineup on Sunday. Just because Rolen's on the field doesn't mean you want to give him a fantasy spot in your lineup. He's slugging just .371 this year with a mere four homers, in part due to the shoulder issue.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 7/21, 2:09 AM CT
It's possible that Scott Rolen, who hasn't played since Tuesday due to a shoulder injury, could return to action this weekend, but it's more likely that we won't return until next Tuesday's series opener against the Cubs, according to the AP. As for Friday, Rolen still wasn't able to take batting practice.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsThursday 7/19, 6:54 AM CT
Scott Rolen flew back to St. Louis on Wednesday to have his sore shoulder examined, but he is expected to rejoin the team soon, the AP reports. Rolen received a cortisone injection for inflammation and tightness in his left shoulder. "I think he's fatigued," manager Tony La Russa said. "I know he's been taking a lot of batting practice lately. Sometimes you can overwork it." La Russa said he expects Rolen to meet the team Thursday in Atlanta.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsThursday 6/28, 5:56 AM CT
Scott Rolen returned to the lineup Wednesday after missing two starts with a bruised left foot, the AP reports.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 6/26, 10:09 AM CT
Scott Rolen received a bit of good news on Monday when X-rays on his left foot came back negative. He does have a bone bruise on top of the foot and did not play. Rolen will be a game-time decision on Tuesday, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 6/26, 1:16 AM CT

Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsMonday 6/25, 9:24 AM CT
Scott Rolen fouled a ball of his left foot on Sunday. "He bruised his foot," manager Tony La Russa told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "We'll see how it is tomorrow." At this point you can consider him to be day-to-day.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 6/13, 9:57 AM CT
Scott Rolen returned to the starting lineup on Tuesday and went 1-for-3. He did not start on Sunday in order to rest his sore left hamstring. Rolen's single on Tuesday night was the 1,500th hit of his career, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch notes.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 6/6, 11:01 AM CT
Scott Rolen could be back in the lineup on Wednesday. He tested his sore hamstring on Tuesday night by running, taking grounders, and participating in batting practice, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "We’ll see how I recover," Rolen explains. "Wake up and see if I can play." Fantasy owners should keep him on their benches until his status is more certain.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 6/5, 11:07 AM CT
Scott Rolen's status for tonight's game against the Reds is uncertain due to a strained right hamstring, an injury that has forced him to miss the last two games, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Rolen is hitting .467 with a homer and eight RBI in his past 10 games, and he attributes the hot streak to an adjusted batting stance. "I looked at myself in 2004, which was probably the last time I really felt good about what I was doing," Rolen said. "I mean, something's going on here. Those were at-bats I watched to find out where I had gone and where I needed to be."
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsSunday 6/3, 9:39 PM CT
As expected, Scott Rolen sat out his second straight game Sunday to rest a strained right hamstring. "Another day of rest," manager Tony La Russa said in the AP. "We'll check him out on Tuesday." The Cards are off Monday, so they're hoping Rolen will be ready to play Tuesday.

Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 5/30, 10:29 AM CT
Maybe the knock to the head was a blessing in disguise. Scott Rolen returned to action on Tuesday night and went 3-for-4 with a solo homer. He sat out on Monday after suffering a mild concussion on Sunday. We not seriously trying to joke about a concussion, but Tuesday did mark just the second time all season that Rolen collected three or more hits in a game, and it was his first homer since April 22.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 5/29, 9:47 AM CT
Scott Rolen plans to play on Tuesday night, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Rolen sat on Monday as a precaution. He experienced "fuzzy" and "nauseous" feelings after a collision with Nationals first baseman Dmitri Young on Sunday. Concussions can be very tricky to deal with, but it sounds like Rolen is confident that his case was mild. Fantasy owners may want to wait one more day to use him, just to be safe.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsMonday 5/28, 7:41 PM CT
Scott Rolen suffered a slight concussion on Monday when he collided with Dmitri Young, and he was not in the starting lineup on Monday, according to the AP. It's uncertain when Rolen will return to action, but concussions have a tendency to linger, so expect the Cardinals to be cautious with the third baseman.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsMonday 5/28, 9:15 AM CT
Scott Rolen might not be able to play on Monday. Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said Rolen may have suffered a concussion during a collision with Dmitri Young on Sunday, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "He says he's better," La Russa said. "He didn't have trouble concentrating. He could drive home. I asked him about flying tonight — he was more assured than the doctors. Whether it's a temporary thing or whatever, he got pretty banged up." Look for Rolen to be a game-time call Monday, but it doesn't look like this is a long-term ailment at this time.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsSunday 4/22, 5:11 PM CT
Scott Rolen came into Sunday's game batting just .200 on the year, but he busted out with a 5-for-6 performance to push his average up to .268. Rolen had a home run, a triple and three singles, driving in three runs and also scoring three.

Scott Rolen and Tony La Russa have cleared the air and agreed to move on after their public disputes last year, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The two hadn't spoken since La Russa benched Rolen for Game 4 of the Division Series, but GM Walt Jocketty helped get the two together to talk this spring. "I was involved," Jocketty said. "In a case like this, a general manager can't take sides. I'm looking out for what's best for the organization."
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsMonday 1/15, 11:22 AM CT
Scott Rolen's shoulder is in much better shape now than it was at this time last year, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "I'm a different person sitting here health-wise," Rolen said. "I don't regret trying to battle through and trying to stay on the field. My regret, or my knowledge, is, hey, I was fatigued. I was hurt. I probably needed some treatment at the time. When I (did), I felt like a different person, felt like a different player." Rolen's surgically-repaired shoulder tired late last year, and he hit just .253 in the second half after batting .331 before the break.

Before yesterday's game was rained out, Scott Rolen was in the starting lineup, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He recently had a cortisone shot in his ailing shoulder and presumably will start in today's make-up game. "I think he feels like he feels good and he's had some success against (Mets starter Tom) Glavine," manager Tony La Russa said. "He has had three days off, so hopefully that's something."

"I felt like I had a responsibility to go into Tony and tell him exactly how I feel," Rolen said. "I had four at-bats yesterday and I didn't have a competitive at-bat." La Russa said that he doubted Rolen would play in a Game 5 of the NLDS, if one is necessary.

Scott Rolen has progressed to the point where he expects to play on Sunday if his back keeps improving, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Trainer Barry Weinberg said it was "very doubtful" that Rolen would play tonight, and he did not speculate on Sunday. "He's got to be able to practice first and the game's going to be a lot more intense than practice," said Weinberg. Scott Spiezio has been filling in for Rolen at third.
Scott Rolen, 3B, Cincinnati RedsFriday 8/11, 9:56 AM CT
