Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 11/5, 2:10 PM CT
Baseball writer Ed Price is reporting on Twitter that the Angels have agreed to a two-year extension with outfielder Bobby Abreu. No financial terms of the deal were disclosed.

Our View: Abreu might not be the youngest guy out there, but he is one of the most consistently good players in the game. He had another very nice year in 2009, stealing 30 bases and driving in 103 runs to go along with his 15 homers and .293 average, and he looks poised to put up very similar numbers next year.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 10/15, 7:46 PM CT
Bobby Abreu was reportedly offered a two-year extension worth $16MM by the Angels, according to Jon Heyman's (Sports Illustrated) twitter page.

Our View: The star outfielder is looking for a better deal after having a strong offensive season for the club in 2009. Abreu will turn 36 in March.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 10/11, 3:17 PM CT
Bobby Abreu went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored, and an RBI in the Angels' Game 3 win over Boston. Abreu had an RBI in the ninth inning and scored the game-winning run on a hit by Vlad Guerrero.

Our View: Abreu has been outstanding for the Angels this season, and he came up huge today in the ninth. The Angels will not await the winner of the Yanks-Twins series in which New York leads 2-0.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 10/10, 6:04 PM CT
Bobby Abreu would likely to remain a member of the Angels beyond the 2009 campaign, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

Our View: Abreu noted that he is having a good time in Anaheim, and the organization, team, manager and fans have treated him very well. The 36-year-old outfielder had another solid (regular) season, but did not improve defensively.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 9/30, 12:04 AM CT
Bobby Abreu helped lead the Angels in Tuesday's 5-2 home win over the Rangers, as he went 2-for-3 with a single and a solo homer off Scott Feldman.

Our View: Abreu has a hit in four straight games, with two homers over the span. He collected his 102nd RBI of 2009 tonight as well.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 9/27, 12:21 AM CT
Bobby Abreu went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in the Angels 15-10 loss to the A's on Saturday.

Our View: The two-run blast gave Abreu exactly 100 RBI for the season, marking the eighth consecutive year he's reached that total. Despite his declining home run totals over the years, he still remains one of the best RBI men in the game.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 9/7, 5:47 PM CT
Bobby Abreu was productive in Monday's 6-3 loss at Kansas City, as he went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. He hit a double and a solo homer off Kyle Davies.

Our View: Abreu has two hits in each of his last two games, and raised his batting average to .299. He has 90 RBI and scored 84 runs.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 9/6, 5:54 PM CT
Bobby Abreu had another big day for the Angels on Sunday, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, as the Halos beat the Royals 7-2 in Kansas City.

Our View: The three RBI game was his tenth of the season, and he is now just 11 away from his seventh straight 100-RBI campaign.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 8/25, 8:18 AM CT
Bobby Abreu hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning on Monday, but alas the Angels were losing 10-4 at the time, and would go on to lose by a final of 10-7 to Detroit at home.

Our View: Having one of the quietest seasons in all of baseball in 2009, Abreu is well on pace for his seventh consecutive 100-RBI year, as well as his sixth 30-steal campaign. Bravo if you had the foresight to pick him up early in the season.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 8/6, 6:12 PM CT
Bobby Abreu reached a career milestone on Thursday in the fifth inning when he launched his 250th career home run into left field, according to MLB.com. Abreu is only the sixth player in Major League history to combine 250 homers with at least 2,000 hits, 1,000 runs scored, 1,000 RBIs and 300 steals

Our View: Sometimes Abreu's success goes a bit under the radar, but one look at these numbers shows just how good he has been. He isn't the power threat he once was, but he is still an all-around contributor for fantasy owners.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 8/5, 10:07 PM CT
Bobby Abreu went 1-for-3 with a single and a run scored in tonight's 6-2 loss at Chicago.

Our View: The Angels only had six hits in the game, but Abreu managed to extend his hitting streak to 11 games. He leads the Angels with a .322 batting average.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 8/4, 10:21 PM CT
Bobby Abreu went 1-for-3 with a single and three RBI in tonight's 5-4 loss at Chicago.

Our View: Abreu extended his hitting streak to 10 games, and continues to lead the Angels with a .322 batting average. He continues to pace the club with 76 RBI as well.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 8/4, 4:32 PM CT
Bobby Abreu has been named the AL Player of the Month for July, according to MLB.com. Abreu earned the honor by batting .380 (38-100) last month with five doubles, four home runs and an AL-leading 26 runs scored and 28 RBI.

Our View: This marks the second time the 35-year-old vet has been named the player of the month in his career. He may be a liability in the outfield, but should continue to be an asset with his bat for the Angels and fantasy owners.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 7/25, 8:27 PM CT
Bobby Abreu went 3-for-4 with a run scored and a pair of RBI in the Angels' 11-5 crushing of the Twins on Saturday.

Our View: Abreu isn't much in the power department anymore, but he's still a solid fantasy producer. He's hitting .310 with 65 RBI on the season, including 21 this month. That helps to make up for his seven homers.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 7/19, 7:17 PM CT
Bobby Abreu was the offensive hero on Sunday for the Angels as they won a pitchers' duel 1-0 in ten innings. Abreu went 2-for-4 with a game-winning tenth inning home run off A's closer Andrew Bailey.

Our View: The Angels only managed three hits in the game, and Abreu had two of them. His home run was the only tally of the game for either team, and Bobby now has seven long balls on the season. He is hitting .306, and he has 60 RBI and 19 stolen bases to go along with those seven homers.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 7/18, 6:46 PM CT
Bobby Abreu went 1-for-5 with an RBI single and a run scored in Saturday's 11-6 win at Oakland.

Our View: Abreu now has 15 RBI in July, and 59 for the season. He is hitting .327 (18-for-55) ao far this month as well.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 7/12, 7:18 PM CT
Bobby Abreu was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the Angels' 5-4 win over the Yankees on Sunday.

Our View: Abreu is hitting close to .400 for the month of July and now has four consecutive multi-hit games. He's already driven in 14 runs this month and should be a starter in all fantasy formats.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 7/11, 8:39 AM CT
Bobby Abreu went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a steal on Friday, helping the Angels outslug the Yankees 10-6 in Anaheim.

Our View: Abreu now has 19 steals, and also has six home runs after starting the season in a prolonged power slump. He should be owned in every format.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 7/9, 12:13 AM CT
Bobby Abreu drove in the Angels lone run on Wednesday, as the Rangers jumped all over Ervin Santana early and never looked back en route to a 8-1 victory.

Our View: Abreu still only has six home runs this season, but is having a huge year in all other areas, He's batting over .300, has over 50 RBIs and nearly 20 steals. He is a top-tier option in the outfield.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 7/2, 11:27 PM CT
Bobby Abreu provided all the offense the Angels needed on Thursday night, hitting two bombs and driving in four as the Angels beat the Orioles 5-2

Our View: Abreu has had a conspicuous lack of power in 2009, but is still on pace for nearly 100 RBIs, as he has posted 48 through 71 games played. If you don't need him to hit a bunch of home runs, he is still a very solid option in the outfield, and is even on pace to steal over 30 bases for the first time since 2005.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 6/25, 12:42 AM CT
Bobby Abreu led the Angels offensively in tonight's 11-3 win over the Rockies at Angel Stadium, as he went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. He hit a double and a two-run homer off Alan Embree. He also swiped a base.

Our View: Abreu is hitting .304 with three homers and 19 RBI so far this month, and has found his swing after struggling through May with a poor .232 batting average.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 6/20, 7:52 AM CT
Bobby Abreu returned to the starting lineup on Friday night. He went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout.

Our View: Abreu has been bothered by a stiff neck and hadn't played since Tuesday June 16th. He appears fit to play, but the neck may still be bothering him a bit as referenced by his 0-for-3 effort Friday. The result dropped is average to an even .300 on the season.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 6/17, 2:39 PM CT
According to the Orange County Register, Bobby Abreu will sit out Wednesday's contest against the Giants due to a stiff neck.

Our View: The injury doesn't seem to be serious, and look on the bright side, he doesn't have to see his stats suffer against Tim Lincecum tonight. The Angels have the day off Thursday, so expect Bobby to be good to go for the weekend series. Robb Quinlan will start in his place.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 6/3, 8:57 PM CT
After taking 41 games before hitting his first home run of the season, Bobby Abreu hit his second in his last seven in Wednesday's 8-1 win over the Blue Jays. He also contributed a double, four RBI, and a run scored in the game.

Our View: Abreu has not stolen a base since May 19. He stole 15 bases prior to dealing with some leg issues that caused him to miss some time. It is great to see him hit some balls over the fence though. He has two all season after hitting 20 last season.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 5/27, 11:29 PM CT
Bobby Abreu had a nice night at the plate on Wednesday against the White Sox, going 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and two RBI in the Angels' 3-1 win.

Our View: Abreu is a very good hitter, and although the power hasn't come around just yet, he is a strong play in all leagues. Once he does start producing some home runs, he will be one of the better fantasy options in the league. His combination of RBIs, stolen bases, and average are going to be there all season.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 5/22, 9:01 AM CT
According to the Los Angeles Times, Bobby Abreu is expected to miss this weekend's series against the Dodgers with an injury to his toe. Abreu may be available to pinch hit, but he is not expected to start until early next week.

Our View: The injury is not considered serious, but keep him out of fantasy lineups until next week. Abreu is hitting the ball well this season, but his lack of power numbers is still a bit of a concern.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 5/21, 7:20 AM CT
Bobby Abreu exited Wednesday's game against the Mariners with a toe injury, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: He injured the big toe on his left foot and was examined by the Mariners' team doctor. Gary Matthews Jr. moved from left to right field, and Juan Rivera replaced Matthews in left. Abreu looks to be day-to-day.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 5/20, 12:13 AM CT
Bobby Abreu was 3-for-4 with a run scored, two RBI and a stolen base in the Angels' 6-5 win over the Mariners on Tuesday.

Our View: Abreu is having a solid season with his .302 average and 15 stolen bases, but he still has yet to show any real power. He doesn't have a single home run and has totaled just eight extra-base hits in 139 at-bats. He's a decent fantasy option for speed and average, but unfortunately these days that's all he's good for.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 5/10, 6:31 PM CT
Bobby Abreu drew four walks in the Angels 4-3 win over the Royals on Sunday. However, he failed to score a run and did not attempt a stolen base.

Our View: Abreu is 11-for-11 in stolen base opportunities this season, so it's a little odd that he did not attempt any in this game. He may still be suffering from a sore lower back that caused him to leave Friday's game.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 5/2, 11:33 AM CT
Outfielder Bobby Abreu is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees. He left Friday night's game early due to a sore lower back. Gary Matthews and Juan Rivera are handling the corner outfield spots.

Our View: We're awaiting more information. The Yankees and Angels are playing a day game after a night tilt, which couldn't have helped.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 4/24, 12:22 AM CT
Bobby Abreu was 2-for-5 with two RBI on Thursday as the Angels doubled up on the Tigers 10-5. He also stole his eight base of the season in the game.

Our View: Abreu can't find his power stroke to save his life, but he's been an on-base machine and is racking up steals like it's going out of style. He's hitting .373 on the year and even though all but two of his hits are singles he still has plenty of fantasy value.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 4/18, 10:09 PM CT
Bobby Abreu continued his strong start to the season on Saturday with a 2-for-3 performance. His Angels got blasted by the Twins though as they were trumped 9-2. He also scored a run and stole his sixth base of the year.

Our View: Abreu is hitting .341 and is piling up the stolen bases, but his power is nonexistent. The only pop he has shown all year is in the form of two doubles.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 4/17, 11:44 PM CT
Outfielder Bobby Abreu didn't have a hit on Friday night, but he walked twice, stole two bases, and scored a run against the Twins.

Our View: The 35-year-old vet is looking fleet early in this season with five steals. We figure he'll eventually settle for 20-25 stolen bags, but it's nice to see him being aggressive and successful.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 4/10, 11:58 PM CT
Bobby Abreu had three hits and stole two bases in the Angels 6-3 win over Boston on Friday. He's now hitting .353 on the young season.

Our View: Don't forget about Abreu just because he's out of that loaded Yankee lineup. He's still a run producing machine and he a perennial threat to swipe 20 bases.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 3/26, 6:56 PM CT
Bobby Abreu was 1-for-3 with a home run on Thursday. The home run was his first and he is hitting .316 this spring.

Our View: Abreu is having a pretty good spring and although his power mysteriously disappeared after the "home run derby" incident, he's still a 20-20 threat and is a useful fantasy contributor.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 3/25, 6:46 PM CT
Bobby Abreu went 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI in the Angels 18-11 win over the Rockies on Tuesday.

Our View: While his power production is not what it once was, he is still a solid fantasy outfielder and a contributor in multiple categories.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 3/4, 5:35 PM CT
Bobby Abreu got his bat going for Venezuela Wednesday in an exhibition game against the Astros. He was 2-for-4 with a walk on the day.

Our View: Abreu is in a less powerful lineup than the one he had in New York, but should still be a very productive fantasy outfielder. His power is down since that infamous Home Run Derby, but he is still an important contributor in several other categories.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 2/28, 7:46 PM CT
Bobby Abreu didn't see the ball too well for the Angels on Saturday, going 1-for-3 with two strikeouts.

Our View: Abreu will have good fantasy value in the strong lineup of the Angels. Getting him for $5 million could certainly be a bargain.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 2/27, 7:34 PM CT
Bobby Abreu was 2-for-3 with two doubles in the Angels 5-3 win over the Rockies on Friday.

Our View: The Angels landed Abreu at a bargain and we expect him to more than pay off for them. He should be a solid No. 2 outfielder in most fantasy leagues.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 2/20, 1:24 PM CT
Bobby Abreu indicated that he is fine with batting second in the Angels' lineup behind Chone Figgins, according to the Orange County Register. Abreu said, "It is no problem. The guys who are going to be batting eighth and ninth, they are going to get on base a lot. As soon as the game starts, you bat second once then it is the same as batting third or fourth. With the lineup we have, we have a lot of guys who can run. Then me batting in front of Vlad and Torii Hunter - it is going to be a lot of fun, man."

Our View: Abreu will be in good position to generate solid numbers from the two-hole, and is worthy of drafting as a No. 2 fantasy outfielder. He made the 30/30 club twice in his career, and scored at least 100 runs eight times.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 2/18, 10:43 AM CT
The Orange County Register predicts Bobby Abreu to bat second in the Angels' order at the start of the season. Manager Mike Scioscia mentioned Chone Figgins and Abreu being "connected" at the top of the order.

Our View: Abreu would be in good position to generate solid numbers while hitting between Chone Figgins and Vlad Guerrero from the two-hole.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 2/12, 11:14 AM CT
The Angels have officially inked Bobby Abreu to a one-year deal, according to the Orange County Register. Financial terms were not disclosed, but the deal is believed to be worth just under $5 million, plus incentives. Angels' GM Tony Reagins said, "We are excited to add a player of this caliber to our organization. His prior accomplishments speak for themselves. Bobby is a great fit for us with his athletic abilities. He can run the bases, produces runs and impacts our line-up in a significant way."

Our View: Abreu will be a liability in the outfield, but his offensive numbers should be solid as the club replaces Garret Anderson.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 2/11, 10:14 AM CT
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have signed outfielder Bobby Abreu to a one-year deal worth just under $5 million but includes incentives, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com.

Our View: The price is remarkably cheap for a player with Abreu's consistency over the years, even if he is about to turn 35. He'll likely get a lot of time in right field, with Vladimir Guerrero going mostly to a DH role.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 2/10, 8:45 PM CT
ESPN.com reports that the Los Angeles Angels are conducting serious negotiations with free-agent outfielder Bobby Abreu. According to source who spoke with ESPN baseball writer Jerry Crasnick, the two sides could agree on a deal prior to this weekend.

Our View: Terms of the potential deal were not disclosed, but if all holds true regarding Abreu's recent acceptance of a considerable pay cut, the price tag will be around $8 million for one season. At the outset of free agency, Abreu was seeking $ 16 million a year.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 2/9, 10:17 AM CT
Adam Rubin of the NY Daily News indicates that the Mets won't completely rule out signing Bobby Abreu.

Our View: The Mets would consider adding him at a bargain if he would accept $2-4 million over one-year. The Angels, Braves, Dodgers and Mariners remain among the other clubs interested in Abreu. If the Mets did add Abreu, Daniel Murphy would likely start the year in Triple-A.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 2/8, 7:03 AM CT
The Giants do not want to sign Bobby Abreu, even at a bargain price, according to the Mercury News.

Our View: Abreu is a liability defensively and adding him would create a logjam in the Giants' outfield. The Angels are interested in Abreu, and the Dodgers like him as a backup plan in case they do not re-sign Manny Ramirez.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 2/7, 10:09 AM CT
Ken Rosenthal, of Fox Sports.com, reports that the Los Angeles Angels may have interest in signing free-agent outfielder Bobby Abreu. The organization also expressed a willingness to negotiate with free-agent Adam Dunn, though the Angels would have to choose one or the other.

Our View: Abreu, who produced 20 home runs and 100 RBI a season ago, would go a long way toward compensating for the power lost in the Mark Teixeira acquisition. Since the Angels seem to have their outfield solidly cemented, with Vladimir Guerrero, Juan Rivera, and Torii Hunter, Abreu, or Dunn for that matter, would likely occupy the DH void left by Gary Matthews Jr., who is scheduled to miss four to six months after undergoing offseason knee surgery.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 2/5, 3:10 PM CT
Skipper Joe Torre prefers Bobby Abreu as a backup plan in case Manny Ramirez does not return to the Dodgers, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated.

Our View: Abreu is a liability defensively, but is consistent offensively, and would be a better option than Adam Dunn, who the Dodgers are also weighing in their backup plan.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 2/4, 11:06 AM CT
Joe Crowley of the Chicago Sun-Times confirmed that no offer was made to Bobby Abreu despite a rumor circulating. A White Sox source also believes the rumor is not true.

Our View: There is belief that Abreu's agent (Peter Greenberg) may just be trying to raise interest in his client with the news regarding the White Sox.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 2/3, 5:18 PM CT
ESPN.com reports that negotiations between the Chicago White Sox and free-agent outfielder Bobby Abreu have stalled.

Our View: The White Sox are looking to move some payroll so they can afford Abreu, who is coming off a season where he hit .296 with 20 home runs and 100 RBI.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 2/3, 10:20 AM CT
The New York Daily News reports that the Chicago White Sox have offered free-agent outfielder Bobby Abreu a one-year deal worth $8 million.

Our View: With Ken Griffey Jr. out of the mix in Chicago, Abreu would fill a hole immediately, but perhaps at the expense of either Jermaine Dye or Jim Thome.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 2/2, 5:27 PM CT
Following the signing of Oliver Perez, the Mets are not interested in Bobby Abreu despite his decreasing contract demands, according to The New York Post.

Our View: Abreu may have to accept a one-year deal in this market. The Giants and Mariners are among two possible destinations for the outfielder.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 2/1, 7:33 AM CT
The New York Times suggests that the possibility of Bobby Abreu having to agree to a one-year deal is becoming more and more likely.

Our View: It seems unreasonable that a player of his consistency and productivity is not fielding offers. The Giants and Mariners are among two possible destinations for the outfielder.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 1/29, 9:29 AM CT
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports indicates that the Mariners are interested in Bobby Abreu at the right price. The Giants are also said be interested.

Our View: The Giants like Abreu as he would be a cheaper alternative to Manny Ramirez. The Mariners feel Abreu would be an ideal fit, but it is uncertain if they can afford him, even after he lowered his expectations regarding a deal.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 1/28, 9:18 AM CT
It has previously been reported that Bobby Abreu is lowering his expectations, and Buster Olney of ESPN believes he is willing to accept a one-year deal.

Our View: Olney suggests that the Mets, Braves, Angels, Giants, and Red Sox may consider him, but that is purely speculation. His poor defensive skills factored into his low interest on the free agent market.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 1/27, 3:15 PM CT
Bobby Abreu has lowered his expectations regarding a new deal, according to ESPN.

Our View: The Dodgers, Braves and Reds are among the clubs that could make a move to try to acquire him at a bargain price.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 1/10, 1:19 PM CT
The Reds lost out on Rocco Baldelli, and general manager Walt Jocketty currently doesn't see Bobby Abreu as a viable option for their outfield. "We've talked about it," Jocketty tells the Cincinnati Enquirer. "But he's still looking for a big contract. I'm not sure he's a fit."

Our View: Abreu is one of many quality, veteran bats still lingering on the market. Manny Ramirez, Adam Dunn, Orlando Cabrera, and Orlando Hudson are other names of note. Some of these guys may eventually need to settle for one-year deals, and the Reds are among the teams seemingly waiting for such a day.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 1/7, 1:44 PM CT
Susan Slusser of the SF Chronicle believes Oakland GM Billy Beane may consider outfielder Bobby Abreu if his price tag drops.

Our View: The Rays and Cubs have already apparently passed on Abreu after inking Pat Burrell and Milton Bradley, and it is unlikely Abreu will receive the three-year, $48 million deal that he covets.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 1/6, 5:03 PM CT
After being passed on by three teams, free-agent outfielder Bobby Abreu is now receiving "lukewarm interest at best" from the Atlanta Braves, reports ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick.

Our View: It's possible that the Cubs, Rays, and A's all shunned Abreu because he is demanding a three-year deal worth $48 million when it's evident his better days are behind him.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 12/29, 5:04 PM CT
MLB.com reports that the Dodgers plan on opening talks with outfielder Bobby Abreu soon. They have also expressed interest in Adam Dunn.

Our View: The Dodgers currently have Andre Ethier, Matt Kemp, Andruw Jones, and Juan Pierre in their outfield, so adding another player would likely coincide with a trade. Many believe the Dodgers would still prefer to add a pitcher before a slugger.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 12/27, 9:04 AM CT
The Oakland Athletics are exploring bringing in outfielder Bobby Abreu, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: The A's need a bat either in front of or behind Matt Holliday, and with the lukewarm reception Abrue has received on the free-agent market thus far, he could be a relatively inexpensive signing.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 12/24, 7:51 PM CT
The Angels do not plan on pursuing Bobby Abreu, according to the LA Times.

Our View: He was previously on the Angels' radar but GM Tony Reagins is pleased with the state of their outfield for 2009, especially after re-signing Juan Rivera. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports recently predicted Abreu to land in Oakland.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 12/20, 8:44 AM CT
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports predicts Bobby Abreu will land in Oakland.

Our View: This is an interesting prediction as Oakland was not listed as one of the many clubs believed to be targeting Abreu. It is known that the Athletics could use some more power to their lineup, even after adding Matt Holliday. Abreu also hits for a solid average and scored 100 runs and stole 22 bases in 2008, and would help make up for the team missing out on Rafael Furcal.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 12/19, 7:29 AM CT
Chicago skipper Ozzie Guillen has talked to outfielder Bobby Abreu, according to the Associated Press. Guillen said, "The interest exists, but other teams have also shown interest. Bob will decide with whom he will play. He needs to choose a contract that allows him to play many years in the major leagues."

Our View: Guillen favors solid defense, so Chicago's interest in Abreu could be mild. The cross-town rival Cubs also have Abreu on their radar.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 12/18, 4:15 PM CT
Bobby Abreu is on the wish list of the Dodgers, Cubs and Angels, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated.

Our View: Abreu is clearly looking for a better deal than the 3-year, $31 million deal that Raul Ibanez signed with the Phillies, and given his talents, he is likely to get it. Still, there are a lot of outfielders floating around, so no signing appears imminent.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 12/12, 2:46 PM CT
Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated indicates that the Dodgers have garnered interest in outfielder Bobby Abreu.

Our View: It is already known the Cubs and Rays are interested in him. Perhaps the Dodgers are putting Abreu on the back burner in case they are unable to retain Manny Ramirez.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 12/11, 8:17 AM CT
The NY Daily News suggests that the White Sox are the top contenders to land Bobby Abreu.

Our View: The Sox would have to trade Jermaine Dye first before adding Abreu to their outfield. Abreu would favorably replace Dye's offensive production, but would be a liability defensively in right field.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 12/10, 8:09 PM CT
The Tampa Tribune reports that the Rays met with free agent Bobby Abreu's representatives on Wednesday.

Our View: Abreu would be a welcome fit in the Rays' lineup. His .296 batting average last season was higher than any Rays' regular.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 12/10, 9:31 AM CT
Astros' GM Ed Wade is not interested in signing Bobby Abreu, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: Abreu is among the most productive outfielders in the league, but Houston is likely turned off by his mediocre defensive skills.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 12/7, 10:11 AM CT
The Chicago Cubs are said to be interested in free agent outfielder Bobby Abreu, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View: The Cubs desperately want a left-handed bat to counter the right-handed thump they already possess, so Abreu and Raul Ibanez will be on their radar.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 12/2, 12:38 PM CT
Bobby Abreu was not offered salary arbitration by the Yankees, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com.

Our View: The Yankees don't want to give him the three-year deal that he covets, and the club looks to be fine in the outfield with Johnny Damon, Xavier Nady, and a platoon of Melky Cabrera and Brett Gardner. Abreu recently stated that he would like to play for the Marlins.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 12/1, 12:08 PM CT
Bobby Abreu would reportedly like to play for the Marlins, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: The Marlins could use his offensive production, especially after losing Mike Jacobs, but he would be a liability in the outfield and the club may not have the payroll to target him.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 11/18, 2:24 PM CT
The Yankees have opted to offer Bobby Abreu arbitration, as reported by Sports Illustrated.

Our View: The Yankees are anticipating that he signs with another MLB club, which would give the Yankees two draft picks as he is a Type-A free agent. He covets a three-year deal, and the outfielder was believed to be on the radar of the Cubs and Mets.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 11/17, 2:45 PM CT
The New York Yankees are likely not going to attempt to re-sign right fielder Bobby Abreu, according to Yankees.com.

Our View: Abreu will want a multi-year deal, and the Yankees will be spending their money on pitching this year. They also have Xavier Nady to man the post in right field, lessening the blow of Abreu's departure.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 11/14, 8:16 AM CT
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch states that the Cubs may pursue Bobby Abreu.

Our View: Manager Lou Piniella covets a left-handed hitter with athleticism on the basepaths, and Abreu would fit the bill. He batted .296 over 156 games with the Yankees in 2008, while scoring 100 runs and stealing 22 bases.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 10/31, 1:13 PM CT
The Yankees reportedly plan to offer Bobby Abreu arbitration, according to the NY Post.

Our View: He filed for free agency, but the Yankees have discussed internally about retaining the 34-year-old left-handed hitter on a one-year contract even if it means his salary being determined through the arbitration process. If he declines, the Yankees receive draft picks when he signs with another club. If Abreu accepts arbitration, he is considered a signed player.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 10/4, 6:04 PM CT
Bobby Abreu wants at least a three-year contract as he heads toward free agency for the first time in his career, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View: Abreu prefers to remain with the Yankees, but he does not want a one-year deal. It is believed the Yankees will offer Abreu arbitration and be content with compensatory draft picks if and when he turns it down. He scored 100 runs and registered 100 RBI over 156 games in 2008.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 9/24, 9:18 PM CT
Bobby Abreu hit an extra-innings grand slam to help the Yankees to their seventh straight win on Wednesday night. The grand slam was Abreu's only hit on the night and he also struck out three times.

Our View: Abreu has driven in 11 runs in his last ten games and is only one RBI away from the century mark. If he gets to 100 RBI it will be the eighth straight season he's done it.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 9/18, 10:11 PM CT
Bobby Abreu was 3-for-5 on Thursday night in the Yankees' 9-2 win over the White Sox. To go along with his two home runs, Abreu drove in six runs.

Our View: If Abreu can drive in five more runs he will reach the century mark for the eighth straight season. Abreu has had somewhat of a quiet fantasy year even though he might end up with 100 RBI and hit over .300.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 9/6, 11:44 PM CT
Bobby Abreu was 3-for-4 in Seattle on Saturday. He scored twice and had three RBI to go with his fourth triple and 16th home run of the season.

Our View: It was his first home run since August second and his first triple since May 30th. The long time fantasy juggernaut and soon-to-be free agent should still hit 100 RBI and 100 runs this season. He currently has 87 in both categories.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 9/4, 6:05 PM CT
Bobby Abreu wasn't in the Yankees starting lineup on Thursday due to a sore left wrist, according to Newsday. In his place the club started Brett Gardner.

Our View: The length of time Abreu will be sidelined is unknown as he apparently injured the wrist last night on a slide in the ninth inning. Could this "injury" be the result of the fact that the Yanks are facing Scott Kazmir?
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 8/29, 10:13 PM CT
Bobby Abreu went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Friday's close 2-1 win over the Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium. He registered a single and a double.

Our View: He collected his 83rd RBI of the season and raised his average a few points to .298, and should remain productive down the stretch for fantasy owners.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 8/22, 10:26 PM CT
Bobby Abreu collected five hits in five at-bats for the Yankees to help take down Baltimore by a score of 9-4.

Our View: Abreu also scored twice, drove in a run and was caught stealing. It figures he was trying to get to second base because each of his hits were singles. Still, fantasy owners have nothing to complain about.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 8/19, 3:35 PM CT
Bobby Abreu has had good success against Toronto's A.J. Burnett, the pitcher he and his Yankees teammates will face off against on Tuesday. In 46 career at-bats, Abreu is hitting .326, and has coaxed 12 walks off the right-hander, leading Abreu to a career .458 on-base percentage against him.

Our View: Despite having just one home run in August, Abreu is nonetheless hitting .303 on the month, with a healthy .378 on-base percentage. He looks to add to those numbers to the benefit of fantasy owners Tuesday.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 8/11, 11:07 PM CT
Bobby Abreu had two of the Yankees four hits on Monday night as they were shut out by Glen Perkins and Joe Nathan.

Our View: Abreu is up to .289 thanks to a .344 run over his last 23 games that has also seen him produce 23 runs, 18 RBI and five home runs. Abreu continues to be one of the better five category performers in the fantasy game despite a declining skill set.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 8/7, 3:42 PM CT
Bobby Abreu, who will become a free agent following the 2008 campaign, would like to remain with the Yankees, according to MLB.com. He said, "I'm a free agent at the end of the year, so you understand how that is. Here is where I want to be, but we still have this season to play. There's still a long time before we talk about that. Things have been great here. I really like it. This is a team that's always in competition for the playoffs and it seems like you always have the opportunity to make it to the World Series. You can't find that everywhere."

Our View: Abreu can still play at a high level, and is among the most consistent players currently on the Yankees' roster. The 34-year-old will keep his fingers crossed that he can re-sign after this season, and finish his career in pinstripes.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 7/30, 3:55 PM CT
Bobby Abreu led the way in Wednesday's 13-3 rout over the Orioles, as he went 3-for-4 with three RBI. He hit a single and two homers.

Our View: He raised his average to .288 and now has 13 homers and 71 RBI. He has recorded three hits in back-to-back games.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 7/22, 9:26 PM CT
The Yanks brought the wood to the late innings of tonight's battke against the Twins, winning 8-2 with seven combined runs in the sixth and seventh innings. One man contributing major efforts the cause would be outfielder Bobby Abreu , going 2-for-4 on the night with his 24th double and 11th homer (hit in the sixth) of the season to total three RBIs and two runs scored.

Our View: Abreu has struggled at the dish, touting a lowly .252 average through June only to worsen to .234 in July. This was his first home runs since June 25th and one of just three multi-RBI games this month.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 7/10, 9:12 PM CT
The Yanks managed just seven total hits as a team in taking the 4-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates this evening, though outfielder Bobby Abreu attempted to get 'em on track. Abreu went 1-for-3 at the dish with one walk, driving in two runs on his single to give the Yanks their only runs.

Our View: Abreu is struggling through a rough July, hitting just .188 coming into tonight with no homers and just four RBIs. He's battling and every little positive note helps.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 7/5, 6:08 PM CT
Bobby Abreu went 0-for-4 on Saturday and is now hitless in his last three games covering 12 AB to drop his average to .275.

Our View: Abreu's counting numbers are still solid (48 runs, 10 HR, 55 RBI), but his ratios continue to lag behind his career performance, especially in the OBP category where he has realized a loss of about .060 points from his carer .405 mark. The overall production should make you happy enough, but it's clear that his days of stardom are in the rear window.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 7/4, 9:55 AM CT
Bobby Abreu is in the Yankees lineup hitting third against Josh Beckett, according to the Boston Globe. However, Abreu is hitting just .193 against Beckett, and has struck out 20 times in 57 at-bats against the big right-hander.

Our View: If you have another option on your fantasy team's bench, today might be a good day to utilize him in place of Abreu. Striking out 35% of the time against a pitcher is not a good thing.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 6/27, 10:35 PM CT
Bobby Abreu went 4-for-4 with three RBI in Friday's 9-0 win over the Mets in the bottom half of a double-header. He hit one double and three singles.

Our View: Abreu impressively racked up nine RBI over his last three games, and has seven hits over his last two. Continue to start him while he's hot.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 6/25, 9:40 PM CT
Bobby Abreu broke a long cold spell on Wednesday night as he went 3-for-5 at the plate with two runs and four RBI thanks in part to his 10th home run of the year.

Our View: Abreau's average is only .279 well below his career mark of .299, but of more concern is his OBP that is about .060 points below his career .405 mark.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 6/25, 1:17 PM CT
Bobby Abreu is having another streaky season at the plate. Since June 12, Abreu is hitting .121 (5-41) with one home run, four RBI, four runs scored and a mere two bases on balls.

Our View: The two walks in 41 at-bats is alarming. It's a red flag that the Yankee right fielder is not being selective at the plate which has obviously had direct correlation to his .121 batting average over the last two weeks.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 6/8, 4:36 PM CT
Yankee outfielder Bobby Abreu swung a mean stick in support of the 6-3 win over the Royals today, going 2-for-4 at the plate with his eighth home run of the season to total three RBIs and two runs scored.

Our View: Abreu hasn't been hitting at his normal pace this month, now sporting a .235 batting average for the month, but he has six RBIs through eight games.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 5/31, 11:05 PM CT
Bobby Abreu went 2-for-5 with two RBI in Saturday's close 7-6 win over the Twins. He also registered a stolen base, his fifth of the season.

Our View: Abreu raised his average to .298, with 36 RBI, with 20 coming in May.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 5/14, 11:28 AM CT
Bobby Abreu is struggling with the Tampa pitching staff. In the last two games the Yankee right fielder is 0-for-8 with three strikeouts.

Our View: Abreu's lines over the first six weeks are acceptable (.287/.355/.427) but he's beginning to show his age with some regression in the power and speed categories (only 3 stolen bases).
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 4/26, 2:15 PM CT
Bobby Abreu is going to ride the pine in favor of Shelley Duncan in right field today, according to The Cleveland Plain Dealer. The Yankees are facing Indians' lefty Jeremy Sowers.

Our View: Abreu is hitting .297 with three homers and 16 RBI over 23 games, and earned a day off. Abreau remains a bargain as a fantasy outfielder.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 4/24, 11:58 PM CT
Bobby Abreu had two hits, two RBI and scored a run on Thursday for the Yankees.

Our View: Every year this guys is overlooked because of his declining power, and every year he returns a profit because of his all-around game. Don't expect this year to be any different.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 4/22, 11:10 PM CT
Bobby Abreu hit a grand slam in Tuesday's win over the White Sox. The outfielder added a single over five at-bats. Abreu is up to three homers on the year.

Our View: Abreu didn't pop his third dinger until June 6 in 2007, so his start is a very good sign. We don't believe Bobby will ever hit 30 bombs again, but 20-25 would be nice.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 4/7, 9:35 PM CT
Bobby Abreu had a big night on Monday as he went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI for the Yankees. Abreu is often overlooked due to his declining home run totals, but hitting in the third spot in the Yankees order should pretty much guarantee him a shot at 90 RBI and 90 runs, numbers he has reached in each of the past five seasons.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 3/25, 12:26 PM CT
Bobby Abreu had a tough day at the plate against the Phillies on Monday as he went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts. His average still remains very strong at .441 as he tries to build upon his solid 2007 campaign.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 11/2, 1:37 PM CT
As expected, the Yankees exercised their $16 million option on Bobby Abreu Friday, according to the AP. "Bobby Abreu possesses a unique skill set and has proven to be a durable and reliable asset to this club," general manager Brian Cashman said. "Consistency has been a hallmark throughout his career." The Yankees would have been forced to pay a $2 million buyout had they declined the option, so paying $14 million for a hitter who wears out pitchers like Abreu does was a lot more reasonable.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 11/1, 11:20 AM CT
It's still looking likely that the Yankees will exercise Bobby Abreu's $16 million option, which must be done by Friday, according to the New York Daily News. That said, the concern about being too overloaded with left-handed hitters has also caused some internal debate on the issue.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 10/26, 10:38 AM CT
The Yankees plan on picking up Bobby Abreu's $16 million option for the 2008 season, according to the New York Post. The Yanks would have to pay a $2 million buyout if they declined the option, so it was essentially a $14 million decision. Abreu isn't quite the 30/30 threat he was once, but he still wears pitchers out, and he hit .305 in the second half this year after a slow start.
Bobby Abreu, RF, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 7/1, 12:40 AM CT

"In his case, you have to make sure that he's ready to go when we're ready to go," Torre said. "If he isn't, we can't take a chance. We have to make sure. If we have to leave him back here, we'll do that. But it's a little premature to say that."

Torre watched Abreu take batting practice Saturday and liked what he saw. "He had a couple of checked swings and everything seemed to be fine," Torre said. "He didn't look like he was favoring it.
