Shannon Stewart, LF, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 8/11, 2:01 PM CT
Shannon Stewart has been released by the Jays, according to the AP. The 34-year-old Stewart sprained his right ankle when he stumbled over first base while running out a grounder June 7 against Baltimore. He was placed on the 15-day DL the following day and has not played since.

Our View: Stewart was a disappointment over 52 games this season, as he held a .240 batting average with only ome homer and 14 RBI.

Shannon Stewart will not be returning to the Jays' lineup any time soon due to a severe high ankle sprain, according to the Toronto Star.

Our View: The team made the determination following his MRI yesterday. While he will be missed by the Jays, he won't be missed by roto-owners as he was only hitting .240 with one homer and 14 RBI over 52 games.

Shannon Stewart, who was placed on the DL Sunday with a sprained right ankle, is likely to be sidelined for a while, general manager J.P. Ricciardi told the AP. The outfielder had an MRI Monday, but no results were available.

Shannon Stewart, LF, Toronto Blue JaysSunday 6/8, 12:02 PM CT
The Blue Jays placed Shannon Stewart on the DL Sunday with a sprained right ankle, according to the AP. Stewart left yesterday's game in the first inning with the ailment. "It's a pretty serious sprain," manager John Gibbons said. "It's in the high ankle, and those are usually the worst."

Our View: It sounds like this will definitely be more than a minimum stay on the DL for Stewart. Joe Inglett was recalled to replace him on the roster, and Brad Wilkerson is expected to handle the bulk of the playing time in left while Shannon is out.
Shannon Stewart, LF, Toronto Blue JaysSaturday 6/7, 1:05 PM CT
Shannon Stewart has left Saturday action in the first inning, due to a high ankle sprain, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Vernon Wells, who is fresh off the DL, took Stewart's place in the outfield. Stewart is listed as day-to-day.
Shannon Stewart, LF, Toronto Blue JaysThursday 5/29, 10:30 PM CT
Shannon Stewart hit his first home run of the season on Thursday amidst a three hit, two RBI day for the Jays.

Our View: It only took 148 AB for Stewart to go deep, though his game isn't about power. Unfortunately it isn't about speed anymore either as he has only three steals, so Stewart is only really a stop gap measure when you need an extra bat due to injury.
Shannon Stewart, LF, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 5/14, 6:41 PM CT
The Toronto Star reports that when it comes to the new-look Blue Jays, another day, another platoon. Manager John Gibbons said on Tuesday that newcomer Brad Wilkerson and Shannon Stewart will split leadoff duties for the foreseeable future.

Our View: Until Vernon Wells returns (6-8 weeks) the Blue Jays will be ultra-creative with their daily lineups.

Shannon Stewart has won the starting gig in left field, according to CBSsports.com. Stewart is only hitting .226 this spring but still earned the nod over Reed Johnson, who was released on Sunday morning.
Shannon Stewart, LF, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 3/17, 10:28 AM CT
Shannon Stewart appears to be taking hold of his battle against Reed Johnson to be the right-handed part of a platoon with Matt Stairs, according to the Toronto Sun. "He's done a good job," GM J. P. Ricciardi said about Stewart. "Guys that have a history like that, their history really precedes them. More importantly, he is healthy and he is moving around really good. The guy is a lifetime .300 hitter. He is going to always be able to hit and he is starting to swing the bat a little better. He has done a good job." Whoever loses that battle will be trade bait; the Mets already have expressed interest in both Stewart and Johnson.

Shannon Stewart is back in Toronto, where he began his successful Major League Baseball career. Stewart agreed to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training on Saturday, and is expected to join the Blue Jays only after he passes a physical on Sunday or Monday. According to the Globe and Mail the Blue Jays made Stewart an offer during the offseason but it was turned down. Since that time, he has switched agents, from Greg Genske to Scott Shapiro and Barry Praver. Stewart's fantasy value rests in AL-only formats as a reserve outfielder.

Despite reports to the contrary, the Mariners don't have any genuine interest in signing free agent Shannon Stewart, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Manager John McLaren said he wants his fourth and fifth outfielders to come from the group already under contract with the team: Mike Morse, Jeremy Reed and Wladimir Balentien. As for Stewart, he said Monday that the Blue Jays are the only team that's made a serious run at signing him, though the Padres have reportedly shown some interest.

Shannon Stewart said Monday that the Blue Jays are the lone team that's offered him a contract thus far, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. The former Blue Jay is still weighing his other options before deciding whether or not to accept Toronto's offer. Stewart would figure, at best, to be the Jays' fifth outfielder.
Shannon Stewart, LF, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 2/11, 12:25 AM CT
The Mets don't believe Shannon Stewart or Kevin Mench would provide adequate insurance if Moises Alou were injured, according to Fox Sports. Stewart has a below-average arm and Mench is a below-average defender. The Mets are continuing their search for another versatile bat, but their search appears to be in vain as Spring Training closes in. What is the title of the NRBQ hit? "All I want is everything?"
Shannon Stewart, LF, Toronto Blue JaysThursday 11/1, 10:40 AM CT
Shannon Stewart has already filed for free agency, but GM Billy Beane has been in contact with agent Greg Genske, and both sides are looking to explore the possibility of bringing the outfielder back to Oakland, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "Shannon had a very positive experience with Oakland and is open to the possibility of coming back, and the A's have expressed interest, too," Genske said. Shannon Stewart was out of the lineup for the second straight game Saturday, though he's expected to start Sunday, the AP reports. Shannon Stewart is hitting .378 this spring and has run the bases well, signs that he's recovered from last season's bout with plantar fasciitis, according to the Contra Costa Times. "To actually play the game -- run after fly balls, run, slide, just kind of get myself back into it, I'm pleased about that," Stewart said. "That was my whole concern. This is kind of like a rehab/get-ready-for-the-season (type of thing)."
Shannon Stewart, LF, Toronto Blue JaysFriday 3/9, 10:12 AM CT
Bob Geren likes the idea of Shannon Stewart hitting second behind Jason Kendall, according to the Contra Costa Times. While nothing is set in stone, that appears to be how Geren is leaning right now.

Shannon Stewart, LF, Toronto Blue JaysMonday 9/25, 10:10 PM CT

It remains unlikely that Shannon Stewart will be able to return from his torn plantar fascia to play again this season, according to the Pioneer Press. "I feel like it's just depending on the body and depending on the (playoff) situation," said Stewart. "But I know one thing being here, I notice there's a lot of baseball left. There's a chance (of returning)."
