Jamey Wright, P, Kansas City RoyalsTuesday 2/10, 5:54 PM CT
MLB.com reports that the Kansas City Royals have signed right-handed pitcher Jamey Wright to a minor-league deal, which means the 34-year-old veteran will get the chance to compete for a job with Royals at spring training.

Our View: Though he made 75 appearances out of the pen for Texas a season ago, it's likely Wright, who is a starter by trade, may get a shot to crack KC's rotation. In 2003 with the Royals, Wright went 1-2 with a 4.26 ERA in four starts.

Jamey Wright, in his first season as a full-time reliever, is fifth in the AL with 18 appearances which have resulted in a 3.57 ERA and 1.19 WHIP, according to MLB.com. "I like it," Wright said. "I wish I could pitch more. It seems like the more I pitch, the better I feel. If I get a day off, I feel better the second day I throw after the day off than I do the first day."

Our View: This is the type of streak that can make a huge difference in AL Only leagues. If he is on waivers, and you have a spot, why not ride him while he is hot?

Jamey Wright has been unavailable in recent days due to a "floating rib" in his lower left back, MLB.com reports. The veteran right-hander could have come in on Sunday, if necessary. "I've had oblique injuries twice before, and this wasn't it" Wright explains. "We treated it with ultrasound and a lot of ice. I'm ready to go. When the phone rings, I'll do what I'm told."

Our View: Ah, yes, the ol' floating rib injury. What the heck? Can you tape that up? Admittedly, this is a new one to us.
