Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 7/12, 11:33 PM CT
According to the Arizona Republic, the Diamondbacks have released big first baseman Tony Clark.

Our View: No one should be shocked by this. Clark was hitting just .182 with four homers in 66 at-bats this season, his 15t in the bigs. It's thought that the move was made to bring up Triple-A first baseman Josh Whitesell and give the team a chance to see how he adjusts. The team is looking for insurance at first as Chad Tracy is in the final guaranteed year of his contract.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksFriday 6/19, 7:11 PM CT
Tony Clark has been activated from the DL following his recovery from a strained ligament in his right wrist, according to the Associated Press. Infielder Josh Whitesell was optioned to Triple-A Reno as the adjoining move.

Our View: Clark missed 41 games, and could need a few games to shake off the rust. He is in tonight's lineup at first base against Seattle.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksWednesday 6/17, 9:36 AM CT
Tony Clark could rejoin the team this weekend in Seattle according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View: Clark has been out since early May with a ligament strain in his right wrist. He has gone just 2-for-16 during his rehab assignment, and was batting only .179 before the injury. He probably isn't the jolt of offense the stagnant D-Backs are looking for and should be of no concern to you and your fantasy team.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksTuesday 6/9, 9:10 AM CT
Updating a previous report, the Arizona Republic is reporting that Tony Clark is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment on Thursday in Triple-A Reno. Clark has been out since May 6 with a ligament strain in his right wrist.

Our View: Expect Clark to spend a decent amount of time in Reno since he has been out for over a month. The D-Backs will not rush him back, and they want to make sure his wrist is fully healthy before he returns. His fantasy value upon his return to the club is slim at best.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSaturday 6/6, 7:28 AM CT
According to the Arizona Republic, Tony Clark is almost ready to start a rehab assignment for his injured hand.

Our View: The assignment is likely to start next week, but could last a while due to the fact that Clark has been out since May 6th and will need to relearn his swing.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksWednesday 5/20, 11:23 AM CT
Tony Clark has been hitting off a tee for the past two days while recovering from a wrist injury, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View: He could progress to batting practice next week. Clark is feeling better, but noted that the true test won't come until he tries to work on the field.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksMonday 5/18, 7:53 PM CT
Tony Clark took some swings off a tee for the first time since he was placed on the DL with a wrist injury, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Clark doesn't believe he will be ready to rejoin the team when his DL stint is up on Wednesday, but this is a good start to a potential comeback. Don't expect him back for awhile, but at least he is swinging again.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksWednesday 5/6, 4:53 PM CT
Tony Clark has been placed on the 15-day DL with a wrist injury that has bothered him since spring training, according to the Arizona Republic. Josh Whitesell will be called up to take his place.

Our View: Clark homered twice on opening day, and has not hit one out since. He is hitting .179 through 28 at bats. Whitesell could permanently take his spot on the roster with a strong showing over the next couple of weeks.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksMonday 4/6, 5:55 PM CT
Tony Clark hit two home runs in Monday's home opener and helped lead the Diamondbacks to a 9-8 win over the Rockies. He finished 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs scored, and two strikeouts.

Our View: Clark got the start against right-hander Aaron Cook as Chad Tracy moved across the diamond to third base. He does not figure to start against southpaws this season and it's probably better to let him remain on the waiver wire.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksMonday 4/6, 10:33 AM CT
Tony Clark will start today's season opener against the Rockies at first base, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View: Chad Tracy will start at third, meaning Mark Reynolds will ride the pine. Manager Bob Melvin wants Clark in the lineup as he is a switch-hitter and opposing hurler Aaron Cook has never handled left-handed hitters as well as right-handers. Adjust your lineups accordingly.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksFriday 3/13, 7:02 PM CT
Tony Clark clubbed his first home run of the spring Friday against the Mariners. He finished the game 1-for-1 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Our View: The 36-year-old still has enough pop to provide some value as a backup first baseman in NL-only leagues as well as with his dangerous bat off the bench as a pinch hitter.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksFriday 1/2, 2:54 PM CT
ESPN.com reports that the Arizona Diamondbacks and Tony Clark have reached an agreement on a one-year deal worth approximately $800,000.

Our View: Clark, 36, has proven to be a commodity off the bench, and is scheduled to back up first baseman Conor Jackson in 2009.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSaturday 12/20, 10:09 AM CT
The Diamondbacks are moving toward a one-year deal for Tony Clark, according to the Arizona Republic. GM Josh Byrnes said, "Tony and I have talked. We're not all the way there. We've kept the dialogue moving."

Our View: The club values his leadership, but his fantasy stock would remain limited while continuing to serve in a bench role.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 9/7, 11:26 PM CT
Usually, the Diamondbacks make their rookies wear costumes on the way home from road trips at the end of the year, but after losing to the Dodgers and falling further behind them in the division, Tony Clark told the rookies to change because it was an inappropriate time, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View: The rookies were spared humiliation because Arizona is no mood to mess around as they try to concentrate on taking the NL West.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksThursday 7/17, 2:12 PM CT
A deal to send Tony Clark from the Padres to the Diamondbacks has reportedly been finalized, according to Diamondbacks.com. The Padres will receive a yet to be named minor league pitcher.

Our View: The Padres and Diamondbacks were waiting to see if the 36-year-old Clark would waive the $500,000 assignment bonus that he would have received in a trade. He did, and now he is once again a member of the Diamondbacks, but an official announcement isn't expected until later Thursday. He will serve as a pinch-hitter, and will likely get some starts against left-handed pitchers. He is worth a look in larger NL-only leagues.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksThursday 7/17, 12:05 PM CT
A deal between the Padres and Diamondbacks for slugger Tony Clark could be finalized as soon as today, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View: He only hit one homer over 88 at-bats with the Padres this season, but hit 30 with Arizona back in 2005, and his fantasy value could go up in deeper NL-only leagues if he rejoins the club. He would serve as a pinch-hitter, and would likely get some starts against left-handed pitchers.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksFriday 7/11, 7:57 AM CT
Tony Clark is believed to be on the D-Backs' radar, according to the East Valley Tribune. The team would reportedly like to use him as a pinch-hitter, as well as a clubhouse presence.

Our View: The addition of Brian Myrow to the Padres has made Clark expendable. Clark only has one homer over 86 at-bats with San Diego this season, but hit 30 with Arizona back in 2005.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksThursday 7/10, 10:50 AM CT
Tony Clark could be traded, now that Brian Myrow has joined the team from Triple-A, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View: Even if he is traded, Clark's fantasy value won't improve. The 36-year-old is hitting just .244 with one home run.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksThursday 6/19, 3:58 PM CT
Tony Clark went 1-for-3 and recorded the Padres' lone RBI in a 2-1 loss to the Yankees.

Our View: Clark is hitting .243 over 74 at-bats, with one homer and eight RBI.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 6/15, 11:46 AM CT
Tony Clark is serving as the San Diego Padres designated hitter in today's game at Cleveland. The left-handed slugger squares off against Indians' starter C.C. Sabathia. Starting Clark against the Cy Young winner is surprising as he is 0-for-5 against the southpaw in his career.

Our View: Clark has played in 51 games this year but has only 62 at-bats. The left-handed veteran is hitting .242 with one home run and seven RBI.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 6/8, 8:34 PM CT
San Diego needed every out they had today to get the job done, but the Padres pulled four runs in the eighth to get the win over the Mets, 8-6. The win was pushed by pinch hitting first baseman Tony Clark , taking his one at-bat and producing three runs with first home run of the year, giving Mets reliever Billy Wagner his third blown save and giving the Padres the win.

Our View: Clark is used only in spot action, but today he was the savior and can enjoy the win.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksMonday 4/21, 8:35 AM CT
Tony Clark has been unavailable the last two games due to a sore groin, but he could be back on Monday. "I'm available, but I won't be stealing any bases," he tells the North County Times. Clark suffered his injury during Thursday's 22-inning game.

Our View: Clark retains some value in NL-only leagues, but we don't expect him to see many at-bats this year unless Adrian Gonzalez suffers an injury.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 4/20, 9:48 AM CT
Tony Clark was unavailable for Saturday night action due to a leg injury, and could miss a few more games, according to the San Diego Union Tribune.

Our View: Clark provides a solid bat off the bench for the Padres, and also serves as insurance for Adrian Gonzalez at first base, but his fantasy value remains limited.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSaturday 3/15, 8:36 PM CT
Tony Clark went 2-for-3 with an RBI against the Giants on Saturday, and raised his spring average to .429 (9-for-21). Clark should provide the Padres with a solid bat off the bench this season.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksSunday 2/10, 11:40 AM CT
Tony Clark signed a 1-year contract for about $900,000 to serve as the team's top bat off the bench in 2008 though the contract wont be official for a day or two. Clark apparently turned down a 2-year deal to stay in Arizona to move back to where he grew up. He still provides plenty of pop (17 HR last year) and clubhouse leadership, but with Adrian Gonzalez the team's best hitter entrenched at 1B, Clark's chance of playing in as many games as his 113 of last year seem slim even if he pinch hits all the time. San Diego Union Tribune
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksThursday 2/7, 5:33 PM CT
Tony Clark and the San Diego Padres are deep into negotiations on a contract according to a report from the Union Tribune. Clark, 35, hit 17 home runs and batted .249 in 221 at-bats with the Diamondbacks last season. In 2005, when he was Arizona's regular first baseman, Clark hit 30 home runs. Clark's fantasy value will rest in deep NL only formats unless an untimely injury strikes starting first baseman Adrian Gonzalez.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksWednesday 2/6, 10:53 AM CT
The Padres are interested in veteran free agent Tony Clark, ESPN.com's Buster Olney reports. Clark wouldn't get a lot of at-bats behind Adrian Gonzalez, but he did grow up in San Diego and would be a great addition to the clubhouse. The team has also entertained the idea of signing Mike Sweeney.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksTuesday 11/20, 11:07 AM CT
Seven different teams have expressed interest in Tony Clark, including the Twins, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. Clark, who is seeking a two-year contract, is looking at signing with an AL team so he can DH on a regular basis. He blasted 17 homers in just 221 at-bats in 2007, giving him the third best HR/PA ratio in the league.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksThursday 10/18, 11:24 AM CT
The D'Backs want to bring clubhouse leader Tony Clark back. Clark, who hit .249 with 17 home runs in 221 at-bats during the regular season, is eligible to file for free agency at the conclusion of the World Series. "What he's done on the field and off the field for us has been important," GM Josh Byrnes said in the Arizona Republic. "We're certainly going to make an effort (to re-sign him)."
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksThursday 8/30, 11:10 AM CT
Tony Clark, who has been recovering from a concussion, is expected to return to the lineup tonight against the Padres' Chris Young, according to the Arizona Republic. Clark is 3-for-5 with three home runs in his career against Young, so be sure to put him in your lineup in daily transaction leagues.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksMonday 5/28, 6:41 AM CT
Tony Clark took a face-plant while diving for a ball during Saturday's game. He sustained a mild concussion and needed a couple of stitches to close a cut, according to the Arizona Republic. He sat out of Sunday's game but should be available on Monday. Clark is hitting just .243 this season, but he has seven homers in 74 at-bats.

Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksFriday 8/25, 9:13 PM CT
The D'Backs activated Tony Clark from the DL Friday, according to the AP. Clark had been on the DL since July 17 with right shoulder inflammation. "Tony's a guy who's been through the wars, has been down the stretch in this type of atmosphere," Melvin said. "He had a couple of games yesterday and swung the bat very well. We feel like he's ready to go." The team sent down Alberto Callaspo to make room on the roster for Clark.

Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksThursday 8/3, 1:43 PM CT
Tony Clark, who is sidelined with a strained shoulder, is at least two weeks away from returning to action, according to the East Valley Tribune. However, Carlos Quentin has played well in Clark's absence, so it wouldn't be a surprise if the Diamondbacks waited until September 1 to activate Clark.
Tony Clark, 1B, Arizona DiamondbacksTuesday 8/1, 11:01 PM CT
Tony Clark, on the DL with inflammation in his right shoulder, played catch for a second straight day Tuesday, according to the AP.
