The Reds released Paul Wilson Wednesday, according to the AP. Wilson didn't pitch last season following shoulder surgery. He was hoping to win a rotation spot this spring but held an 8.10 ERA in five games.

Paul Wilson was roughed up for four runs in 2 2/3 innings Thursday, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. It wasn't a good day for any of the team's candidates for the final rotation spot, as Kirk Saarloos and Bobby Livingston also had mediocre outings.

The Reds are shutting down Paul Wilson for an unspecified period of time so that he can work on his arm strength, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. "It's not a question of how he feels physically as it is how he can't maintain his velocity between starts," Reds head medical trainer Mark Mann said. "We've got to figure out a way to remedy that. That's our biggest obstacle."

Paul Wilson will make another rehab start for Triple-A Louisville on Thursday, according to the AP. Wilson is making a comeback from shoulder surgery he underwent 13 months ago. In his last minor league start, his fastball was clocked in the mid-80 mph range, the best it's been.
