Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSunday 9/20, 8:10 PM CT
Jason Giambi had a nice day at the plate on Sunday as the Rockies beat the D-Backs 5-1. Giambi went 2-for-4 with a home run, a run scored, and two RBI in the win.

Our View: Giambi has done an excellent job since coming over from Oakland, and he has turned out to be a very important acquisition. He can spell Todd Helton down the stretch, and he will also provide a power bat off the bench in the postseason.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSunday 9/6, 2:33 PM CT
Jason Giambi started in place of Todd Helton at first base on Sunday. Helton was just getting a routine day off.

Our View: Giambi allowed manager Jim Tracy to rest Helton every once in a while, and he also provides a power bat off the bench. Every manager likes having flexibility, so it looks like acquiring Giambi was a good move by the Rockies.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 9/1, 6:41 PM CT
According to the Associated Press, the Rockies have added Jason Giambi to the active roster.

Our View: Giambi hit .193 with 11 homers and 40 RBI in 83 games with the A's before being released on August 7th. The Rockies picked him up on the 24th and he's hit .444 with a pair of homers and four RBI in six games with Triple-A Colorado Springs. The Giambino will likley be a bat off the bench and may get a spot start or two to spell Todd Helton at first.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesMonday 8/24, 2:54 PM CT
Confirming a previous report, the Colorado Rockies announced on Monday that they have agreed to a minor league contract with Jason Giambi, according to ESPN.com. Giambi is expected to report to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Our View: This was announced over the weekend, but the team made it official today. Giambi won't be spending much time with the Triple-A club, as he will likely get a few games to get back in the groove before he joins the big club. He will be used as a left-handed bat off the bench, and could give Todd Helton a periodic rest at first base.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSunday 8/23, 9:35 AM CT
The Associated Press reports that Jason Giambi has agreed to a deal with the Colorado Rockies.

Our View: Giambi says he is 100 percent healthy after dealing with a quadriceps injury in Oakland earlier this year, and ready to help contribute down the stretch. Hopefully the thin air of Colorado will help his swing, as the veteran slugger was dreadful in Oakland this season, batting just .193 with 11 home runs in 269 at-bats. He will spell Todd Helton at first base and serve as a pinch-hitter.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 8/22, 6:05 PM CT
A's beat writer Susan Slusser is reporting on her Twitter page that Jason Giambi may be close to signing with a contender. Slusser mentions the Rockies as Giambi's possible destination.

Our View: If Giambi would go to the Rockies, he wouldn't be anything but depth on the bench, as Todd Helton is established at first base. Giambi could provide a nice power bench bat, but it remains to be seen if the two sides will agree to a deal.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesFriday 8/7, 12:21 PM CT
Joel Sherman of the New York Post is reporting on his Twitter page that the Oakland A's have released first baseman Jason Giambi.

Our View: Giambi was hitting .193 for the A's this season, and he had clearly fallen out of favor with the team. It doesn't look like Giambi has much left in the tank, so we may be getting close to seeing the last of him in MLB.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 7/22, 12:16 PM CT
Mychael Urban of MLBlogs.com thinks that Jason Giambi's season may be over.

Our View: The A's recently placed the fading slugger on the 15-DL with a mysterious quad injury. When he was injured is unknown and Giambi is not traveling with the team. One would think that he's stay close to team doctors, but he may be deciding to head back to his Vegas pad and hang up the cleats for the year. And possibly contemplate retirement.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesMonday 7/20, 6:29 PM CT
Oakland placed Jason Giambi on the 15-day DL on Monday with a strained right quadriceps muscle, according to the Oakland Tribune.

Our View: Giambi has been decent, but still below his normal standard, with 11 home runs and 40 RBI this season, though his .193 batting average has been downright awful. There's no reason to hold onto Giambi at this point unless you're an AL-only owner in dire need of power. Daric Barton was called up from the minors to fill his spot on the roster.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 7/15, 4:52 PM CT
Jason Giambi is aiming to improve for the second half of the season, according to the Associated Press. Giambi holds a dismal .192 batting average at the All-Star break and he said, "Definitely I would have liked to start off better, there is no doubt about that. Hopefully it is coming around. The biggest thing is going out there and battling. I cannot preach to these young kids out here to keep battling if I am not out there battling with them. That is the biggest thing, keep going out there, keep swinging the bat."

Our View: The 38-year-old vet will have to work on staying healthy for the stretch run of the season as well, as his legs have been frequently sore and he suffered a bruised right elbow in last Saturday's game against the Rays.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 7/11, 8:14 PM CT
Jason Giambi left tonight's game against the Rays in the fifth inning with a bruised right elbow, according to the Associated Press. He was struck by a pitch in the second inning.

Our View: Bobby Crosby replaced him at first base. The severity of Giambi's injury is yet to be determined.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 7/8, 6:07 PM CT
According to the San Jose Mercury News, Jason Giambi is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.

Our View: This is the Giambino's second day off in four games and he feels that he needs to rest his aching body. He'll get two days off in a row as the team has an off day Thursday, but should be ready to roll for the weekend. Bobby Crosby will fill in at first base.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 6/23, 11:42 PM CT
Jason Giambi went 1-for-3 with a solo homer off Tim Lincecum, and recorded the A's lone RBI in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Giants at McAfee Coliseum.

Our View: Giambi swatted his 10th homer of the season, with four coming in June. He would be more useful to fantasy owners if not for his anemic .209 batting average.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 6/20, 12:59 AM CT
Jason Giambi went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored in Friday's 7-5 win at San Diego. He hit a single and a double.

Our View: Giambi now has 13 RBI in June, despite only hitting .188 (10-for-53). He has 36 RBI for the season, and only Matt Holliday has more on the A's with 38.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 6/17, 12:58 AM CT
Jason Giambi went 2-for-5 with three RBI in Tuesday's 5-4 loss at Los Angeles. He hit a double and a three-run homer.

Our View: The slugger ended a 10-game drought without a homer, and also ended a seven-game skid without an RBI. He was hitting a dismal .154 in June heading into tonight's game.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 6/13, 7:51 PM CT
Jason Giambi is a late scratch for tonight's game at San Francisco due to tightness in his right calf, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: He is available to pinch-hit if needed, and the ailment is believed to be minor. He missed one start last week due to his tight calf as well.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 6/10, 7:28 PM CT
Jason Giambi is taking a scheduled night off on Wednesday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Giambi had left Saturday's game with a sore left leg. He has historically crushed the ball in June, but he has just one hit in his last 13 at bats.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesThursday 6/4, 3:54 PM CT
Jason Giambi homered for the second straight game on Thursday and for the third time in five games.

Our View: Giambi's blast against the White Sox was a three-runner off of Mark Buehrle in the seventh inning that put the A's up 4-0, and a sign that perhaps he will finally be batting with some consistent power in 2009. Should he homer again in the next game or two, he might be worth picking up to ride for a hot streak.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 5/9, 6:17 PM CT
Jason Giambi went deep twice in the A's 6-4 loss to the Blue Jays on Saturday. He drove in three in the game.

Our View: Giambi has more or less been a non factor this season until today. The two homers tripled his output for the season and he raised his average to .217. These are not numbers you want in your fantasy lineup.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 5/2, 11:24 PM CT
Jason Giambi led the A's in Saturday's 3-2 win at Seattle, as he went 2-for-4 with two RBI. He hit a single and a double.

Our View: That marks his first multi-hit game since April 13, and he registered two RBI in a game for the third time. Hopefully he will find his power stroke soon, as he remains stuck on one homer for the season.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 4/29, 6:21 PM CT
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Jason Giambi is not in Wednesday's lineup due to a sore hamstring. He may be available to pinch hit.

Our View: Giambi has gotten off to a slow start back in Oakland, but he pulled this same number last season with the Yankees. We expect his power to come around, but he'll need a healthy hamstring to get it going.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 4/25, 7:33 PM CT
Jason Giambi went 1-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, a walk, and one RBI as the A's beat the Rays 5-2 on Saturday.

Our View: Giambi had not played since April 22 due to a hamstring injury. He started at first base and hit third in the lineup today. This was his first home run of the season and the A's are certainly hoping for more power from him going forward. We believe they will get it.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 4/25, 11:08 AM CT
Jason Giambi was held out of the lineup on Friday due to some hamstring soreness, but he should be back in the lineup on Saturday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: The A's slugger has had a painfully slow start to the year hitting just .204 without a single long ball in 54 ABs. He figures to hit plenty of home runs, he always does, but that poor average of his will certainly need to be offset by someone else on your fantasy roster.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 4/15, 2:43 PM CT
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Jason Giambi was given the day off on Wednesday. He was replaced by backup catcher Landon Powell at first base.

Our View: No surprise here as Giambi gets a day game off after playing in the night game last night. He will be back in the A's lineup in their next game.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 4/14, 12:18 AM CT
Jason Giambi went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI, and two runs scored in Monday's 8-2 win over the Red Sox. He started at first base, but was removed later in the game for defensive purposes.

Our View: Giambi is off to a solid start in Oakland as he is hitting .346. However, he has just two extra base hits, both doubles, out of his first nine.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 3/31, 7:25 PM CT
Jason Giambi was 1-for-3 with an RBI on Tuesday, but is hitting just .136 this spring and has only driven in five runs. He'll need to get it going if he doesn't want to lose out to one of Oakland's kids.

Our View: Giambi is like Jim Thome without the doubles. They are both aging sluggers that can still hit 30+ home runs, but strike out in droves and hit for a low average. Giambi however managed only 19 doubles last year. Talk about all or nothing. He is declining, but should still contribute a bit in the aforementioned categories.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 3/14, 8:33 PM CT
Jason Giambi was 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBI, and a run scored in Saturday's 8-3 win over the Giants. It was his first home run in 23 spring at-bats.

Our View: Giambi is battling for the DH/1B role with Daric Barton and Jack Cust this spring. To date, he has not done much to solidify himself as any sort of a front runner as he is hitting only .217 with three RBI. Despite a nice season in New York in 2008, don't forget Giambi is in decline.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesMonday 3/9, 5:51 PM CT
Jason Giambi had a nice day at the plate for Oakland on Monday, going 2-for-2 with a run scored.

Our View: Giambi's still only batting .158 so far this spring, but this could be a sign of him turning it on.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesThursday 3/5, 5:38 PM CT
Jason Giambi's miserable spring continued Thursday with an 0-for-3 performance that dropped his preseason average to a paltry .071. He stranded three men on base in the game.

Our View: Giambi is a wait and see kind of player this year. Your best bet is to wait for him to produce and then snag him off the waiver wire. Unless you need depth in an AL-only league.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesMonday 3/2, 12:34 AM CT
Jason Giambi had an ugly game on Sunday, going 0-for-3 while stranding three runners.

Our View: Giambi shouldn't be expected to duplicate his 2008 season this year as he won't have nearly the protection with the A's that he had in the Yankees' lineup.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 1/7, 2:05 PM CT
Oakland has officially announced the return of Jason Giambi, according to the Contra Costa Times. As previously stated, he received a one-year deal with an option for 2010.

Our View: 187 of his 396 homers have been hit with Oakland, and he will serve as a solid power complement to Matt Holliday in the lineup.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 1/6, 12:23 PM CT
As expected, Jason Giambi has agreed to a one-year deal with Oakland worth $4.5 million, according to the NY Post. Oakland has a team option for 2010 at $5 million with a $1 million buyout. The deal is pending a physical.

Our View: The slugger will serve as a solid power complement to Matt Holliday, as Giambi blasted 32 homers with 96 RBI in 2008 with the Yankees. He is four homers away from 400 for his career.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 1/6, 10:00 AM CT
Buster Olney of ESPN indiates that Jason Giambi signing with the A's is imminent, and the deal will be worth $5.25 million guaranteed ($4 million the first year plus an unknown 2010 option with a $1.25 million buyout).

Our View: He would serve as a solid power complement to Matt Holliday, as Giambi blasted 32 homers with 96 RBI in 2008 with the Yankees.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesMonday 1/5, 4:12 PM CT
Jason Giambi is making significant progress in contract talks with the A's, according to MLB.com. He could sign a one-year deal with an option to return to Oakland as early as this week.

Our View: Giambi showed with the Yankees last year that he can still be productive from a power standpoint as he hit 32 home runs with 96 RBI. Average may be another story, as he just hit .247 and has only batted over .270 once in his past six years with the Yankees.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 12/27, 8:53 AM CT
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Oakland A's will attempt to sign free agent Jason Giambi.

Our View: The A's would like to sign Giambi, but not to a three-year deal, as he would like. Giambi is 38 years of age, and though still retains power, hit just .247 last season.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesMonday 12/22, 1:23 PM CT
Blue Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi mentioned Jason Giambi when discussing possible free agent targets of his team this winter, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Most rumors suggest the Giambi might land in Oakland, but its becoming more apparent there are other suitors out there for the DH who hit 32 home runs last season.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 12/20, 6:59 AM CT
Oakland may start discussing a contract with Jason Giambi next week, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: Giambi seeks a three-year deal, but Oakland will likely offer two years with an option. The sluger would form a solid power tandem with Matt Holliday in the heart of the Athletics' order. The Rays also remain interested in reeling in Giambi.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSunday 12/14, 11:30 AM CT
ESPN's Buster Olney reports Jason Giambi is the favorite to sign with the Rays and become their DH next season.

Our View: The team could use some power to add onto Evan Longoria, Carlos Pena, and Matt Joyce.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesThursday 12/11, 3:40 PM CT
Jason Giambi remains hopeful of returning to the Yankees, according to LoHud.com.

Our View: He wants to keep his apartment in New York, and may be willing to take a shorter deal for less money to remain in pinstripes. This contradicts previous news that he would like to return to the West Coast.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 12/9, 7:31 PM CT
Jason Giambi met with the Rays on Tuesday, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

Our View: Giambi has expressed a preference to return to the West Coast but would have a chance to be a full-time designated hitter with the Rays.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 12/9, 5:05 PM CT
Jason Giambi said, "Nothing's getting done yet," referring to him returning to Oakland, according to Newsday.

Our View: Giambi would take a pay cut no matter where he goes, but it's uncertain how large it will be. He made $23.4 million with the Yankees last season.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 12/9, 2:32 PM CT
Baseball Prospectus is reporting that Jason Giambi appears headed back to the Athletics as a free agent, and an announcement could come at the meetings as the first baseman/designated hitter lives in Las Vegas.

Our View: No details on a deal have been announced. The first baseman/DH hit .247 last season, but managed a .373 OBP thanks to 76 walks. He also launched 32 home runs and tallied 96 RBI in 2008.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesMonday 12/8, 8:30 PM CT
Jason Giambi says he may sign with his former club, the Oakland A's, reports Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com.

Our View: Despite his wishes, the A's may not want or ned Giambi back on their squad as they press to fill bigger needs.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesMonday 12/1, 10:37 AM CT
Newsday does not expect Jason Giambi to be offered salary arbitration by the Yankees.

Our View: The Yankees do not intend to re-sign him and would not want to get stuck with his salary if he accepted arbitration, which would cut into their plans to sign top free agents, such as CC Sabathia and AJ Burnett.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesThursday 11/27, 5:37 PM CT
There is speculation that the Orioles may be interested in Jason Giambi, according to OriolePost.com.

Our View: The slugger could be an option if they are unable to land prized free agent first baseman Mark Teixeira.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesThursday 11/20, 10:17 AM CT
The NY Post speculated that Jason Giambi could be a good fit for the Rays, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com.

Our View: It would make sense for the Rays to pursue Giambi, as the Rays have two less left-handed hitters after declining Cliff Floyd's option and with Eric Hinske a free agent. Giambi blasted 32 homers in 2008 with a solid .373 OBP. Giambi has hit 11 homers over 65 games at Tropicana Field as well.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 11/5, 4:20 PM CT
MLB.com reports that the A's have rehired strength and conditioning coach Bob Alejo. A's general manager Billy Beane, however, essentially mocked the notion that the return of Alejo, who held the same position in Oakland from 1993-2001 prior to joining Jason Giambi in New York, was a precursor that the team is seeking to resign Giambi.

Our View: The Yankees declined Giambi's option earlier in the week. The slugger hit 32 home runs and had a .373 OBP in 2008.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 11/4, 5:18 PM CT
The Yankees have declined their option on Jason Giambi, making him a free agent, according to the Sports Network.

Our View: Giambi hit 32 home runs last year and it will be interesting to see how much interest the power hitter will get this off-season.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 10/29, 9:39 AM CT
Jason Giambi would like to remain with the Yankees, although they are undoubtedly going to decline his $22 million option for next season, according to the New York Post. "He would like to stay in New York if they want him," Giambi's agent, Arn Tellem said.

Our View: Giambi no longer can hit for the average he once did, as he ended last season at .247. He still has power, though, and a good enough eye that even if the Yankees aren't interested, he'll find a spot somewhere as a DH next season.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesMonday 10/20, 7:05 AM CT
Eric Chavez is in favor of Oakland bringing back slugger Jason Giambi, according to the SF Chronicle. Chavez said, "I think it's a great fit. I don't know if it will happen or not, and I don't know what the shape of the team will be, but Jason has had productive seasons in New York and there's no doubt he could still be a good hitter. And he'd be a big hit in the clubhouse. Every time I watch him, it seems like he comes up with a big hit or a home run."

Our View: Giambi only hit .247 with the Yankees this season, but crushed 32 homers (over 145 games). Giambi is expected to be a free agent after the World Series, and GM Billy Beane previously stated that he intends to add a bat in the off-season.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 10/18, 7:37 AM CT
It is unlikely that Jason Giambi will garner much interest from the Yankees in the offseason, according to SI.com.

Our View: Giambi signed a huge-money deal with New York after the 2001 season, but he was not the same player with the Yankees that he was in Oakland, and is pretty much DH-only material right now.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesThursday 10/2, 11:07 AM CT
It is possible that Jason Giambi could return to his former team, the Oakland A's, in the offseason, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.com.

Our View: Giambi would return to Oakland a different player than when he left after the 2001 season. He never hit less than .291 in any full season with Oakland, but hit above .271 only in his first season with the Yankees. Not to mention the fact that he wouldn't be as, well, beefy since the last time he was in Oakland's clubhouse.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesFriday 9/26, 10:27 AM CT
Jason Giambi could be playing his final games in a Yankees uniform this weekend, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View: Through seven seasons in the Bronx Giambi has 209 home runs, tied for 10th in club history with Alex Rodriguez. No longer the all-around hitter he once was, Giambi still can be a very productive hitter at the plate as his 32 home runs and 95 RBI attest to. He'll latch on somewhere, though don't look for it to be with the Yankees.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 9/23, 9:29 PM CT
Jason Giambi went deep for the 32nd time this season, helping lead the Yankees to a 3-1 win over the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

Our View: Giambi went 2-for-4 on the day, and has a shot to get to 100 RBI on the season if he has a good final few games.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 9/6, 11:47 PM CT
Jason Giambi went 3-for-5 with a home run and a double on Saturday night. He two runs and two RBI in his west coast effort.

Our View: The slugger has struggled in the second half but his power has remained consistent. He now has 29 home runs on the season.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesThursday 9/4, 12:01 PM CT
Jason Giambi showed up to the stadium with a right eye that had a cut and some swelling on it on Wednesday. When asked what happened, Giambi admitted he lost a battle with the bathroom door, according to the New York Post. "I walked into the bathroom door at the hotel and split it open. There was so much blood the maid probably was wondering where the body was hid," Giambi told the paper.

Our View: Giambi has had a nice season for fantasy owners, despite his .250 batting average. His OBP is still .377, and he has 28 home runs and 87 RBI on the year as well. But those bathroom doors can be tricky, so hopefully he pays a little more attention in the future.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesThursday 8/28, 3:45 PM CT
Thanks to Jason Giambi the New York Yankees avoided a three game sweep at the hands of the Boston Red Sox. Giambi didn't start the game but was 2-2 with a two-run home run and game-winning RBI single in the ninth to propel the Yankees to a 3-2 win.

Our View: Giambi connected on his 27th home run of the season. Even though his average is at .251 his power numbers are there with his home runs and his 81 RBI.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 8/27, 10:54 AM CT
Jason Giambi has only six hits in his career off of Red Sox starting pitcher Paul Byrd, who the Yankees play Wednesday, but four of them are home runs.

Our View: Giambi has six hits in 19 at-bats, which is a .316 average, but his slugging percentage is a monstrous .947. Despite Giambi's recent struggles, he could offer fantasy teams a homer or two if history is to be believed.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 8/23, 9:26 PM CT
Jason Giambi had an RBI single and two-run homer in the Yankees' win over Baltimore Saturday.

Our View: Giambi is hitting just .233 this month but has five homers and 14 RBI.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSunday 8/17, 4:52 PM CT
Yankees first baseman Jason Giambi smacked a grand slam home run against the Kansas City Royals today, supporting the ugly 15-6 win over KC. Giambino posted just the one hit on the day, going 1-for-4 with the four RBIs and one run scored.

Our View: Giambi now touts 24 homers on the season, including four through August with 10 RBIs to boot.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesMonday 8/4, 10:44 PM CT
Jason Giambi went 3-for-4 and hit his 21st home run of the season in New York's 9-5 loss to Texas.

Our View: Giambi shaved his mustache, and promptly got three hits. After saying he was going to re-grow it, maybe this game will change his mind.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesMonday 8/4, 8:26 PM CT
Jason Giambi shaved his mustache after being lifted for a defensive replacement in the game on Sunday, according to the AP. He says he will grow it back as long as the team keeps winning.

Our View: Before today's game, Giambi was hitting .205 since July 1, so the lucky mustache was anything but lucky. Maybe shaving it will begin a new streak of luck.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSunday 7/20, 3:15 PM CT
Jason Giambi went 2-for-2 with a solo home run in Sunday's close 2-1 win over the Athletics at Yankee Stadium.

Our View: His homer was his 20th of the season, and his second over his last three games. His average may be on the decline, but he is still coming up big for fantasy owners in the power department.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSunday 7/13, 3:07 PM CT
Jason Giambi is having a poor July, and was hitting just .138 on the month coming into today's game, but he went 2-for-4 today with a home run and the Yankees lone RBI.

Our View: If you can deal with what is a declining average, Giambi can help your fantasy team in the power and on-base departments, so bear with him through this and he'll likely end up hitting better than the .253 he is currently at.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 7/9, 3:52 PM CT
Jason Giambi went 1-3 with an RBI on Wednesday, as he helped the Yankees edge the AL East-leading Rays 2-1 at Yankee Stadium.

Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 7/8, 6:51 PM CT
Jason Giambi, trying to shore up the final spot on the All-Star team, was held out of Tuesday night's lineup in favor of Wilson Betemit.

Our View: The opposing pitcher, Scott Kazmir, is another lefty who has been dominant against the Yankees slugger. Giambi is hitting just .125 in 16 career at-bats against Kaz, including seven strikeouts.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 7/2, 10:00 PM CT
The Yankees found more than a few reasons for happiness this evening, posting 18 runs on 16 hits to triumph in dominating fashion over the Texas Rangers, 18-7. The man of the hour: Designated hitter Jason Giambi , going 2-for-4 at the plate with his 13th double and 18th homer of the season, totaling a whopping six RBIs and two runs scored on the night.

Our View: Giambi added the moustache and started hitting, touting six homers for 19 RBIs last month while hitting .305 through June. If he stays hot through July, he may become the most feared hitter in a lineup bloated with All Stars.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSunday 6/22, 4:18 PM CT
Jason Giambi went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI for Yankees on Sunday. He also stole his second bag of the year.

Our View: Long live the power of the golden thong. After hitting .164 in April, Giambi is hitting .328 with 12 home runs over his last 42 games rewarding those who had the patience to keep him on their roster during his darkest hours.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 6/17, 9:14 PM CT
Only three batters failed to post a hit this evening as the Yankees put the Padres to bed, 8-0. The top man of the day in what is becoming an alarming trend over recent weeks was first baseman Jason Giambi , going 2-for-3 at the plate with two home runs on the night, totaling three RBIs.

Our View: This gives Giambi six homers with 13 RBIs through June, hitting .341 for the month.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 6/11, 11:58 PM CT

Our View: Giambi left May with a strong sense of resurgence, hitting .315 on the month with six home runs and 14 RBIs. Through the early games of June, he's hitting .360 with four home runs and 20 RBIs.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesFriday 6/6, 6:17 PM CT

Our View: Since the start of May, Giambi is hitting .341 with seven home runs, so if your leaguemates haven't caught on to that fact this may be the last chance for you to try and pilfer the g-string diva.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 6/4, 11:05 PM CT

Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 5/28, 9:24 PM CT
Jason Giambi continued his hot hitting Wednesday, picking up two hits, including his 11th homer of the season. Giambi is batting .339 with six homers and 14 RBI this month.

Our View: Suddenly Jason has turned into a legitimate fantasy option after hitting .164 in April.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 5/27, 12:25 PM CT
Veteran slugger Jason Giambi has eight hits in his last 20 at-bats (.400 average) against lefties since May 9, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He is a good option for tonight against Orioles' lefty Brian Burres. He is hitless in his last two games, but is hitting .321 in May.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 5/24, 3:52 PM CT
Jason Giambi hit a three-run homer as the Yankees improved to 5-0 against the Mariners this season. Giambi was 3-for-4 adding a double and single to his long ball. He scored twice and raised his average nearly twenty points (.234) with the three-hit performance.

Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesFriday 5/9, 10:38 PM CT
Jason Giambi homered in the second inning of Friday's loss to the Tigers. The home run was hit off lefty Kenny Rogers, giving him 184 with the Yankees, passing Tommy Henrich and tying Charlie Keller for 16th place in team history.

Our View: Giambi's home run was his seventh of the season.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesFriday 4/18, 11:17 AM CT
Jason Giambi continues to struggle against anyone not named Mike Timlin. The first baseman went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts on Thursday and is batting .125. Two of his five hits and both of his homers this year have come off of Timlin. "I think his at-bats have been pretty good," manager Joe Girardi tells the New York Post. "Like I've said all along, he's run into bad luck. He's hit some balls hard. I really don't have any concerns with him. I think he's going to be really productive."

Our View: We don't share Giradi's optimism. Giambi has been awful for nearly a full calendar year.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSunday 4/13, 11:42 PM CT
Apparently the Red Sox are the only team that can't figure out Jason Giambi. He went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and two runs on Sunday. Coming into this weekend, Giambi had only one hit, but he managed to smack two long balls in the series against the Red Sox.

Our View: Way to push that average over .100, Jason.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 4/8, 4:42 PM CT
Jason Giambi was back in the lineup Tuesday after missing two games with a sore left groin, according to the AP. The veteran is off to a horrible start this year, with just one hit in his first 12 at-bats, so perhaps a little time off will do him some good.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesMonday 4/7, 8:14 AM CT
Jason Giambi did not play on Sunday due to a sore left groin, but manager Joe Girardi tells the New York Post that the slugger was available to pinch-hit. Wilson Betemit started in his place. Giambi isn't a lock to play on Monday and is day-to-day.

Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 4/5, 4:09 PM CT
Jason Giambi left the Yankees game on Saturday after five innings because of a sore groin and he is being listed as day-to-day, this according to the AP. Giambi still has 30-HR power if he can remain on the field, but at this point we just don't know how often that will occur. Giambi has begun the year going 1-for-11, so the Yankees may be better off with Wilson Betemit or Morgan Ensberg in the lineup for a while.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 4/2, 7:53 AM CT
Jason Giambi got his season off to a slow start on Tuesday as he went 0-for-3 against Toronto, while leaving three men on base. He enjoyed a solid spring training and should bounce back fine.

Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 2/27, 10:25 AM CT
Manager Joe Girardi would like to play Jason Giambi a lot at first base this year, but he insists that the position is an open competition. Shelley Duncan, Morgan Ensberg and Wilson Betemit are also in the mix at first. "We have more parts than positions, but they're good parts," Girardi said in the New York Daily News. "We're trying to figure out how to get the best out of everyone." Giambi is obviously the favorite to get most of the playing time, but he could also start in the DH slot. Duncan could get a lot of starts against lefties, while Ensberg and Betemit offer the most versatility.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 2/20, 9:14 AM CT
Jason Giambi did more running this offseason and apparently is in terrific shape this spring, according to the New York Daily News. Manager Joe Girardi said he plans to use Giambi at first base as often as possible this season, so he can split left field and DH between Johnny Damon and Hideki Matsui. Giambi's entering the final year of his contract, so he has a lot to play for this season.

Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 8/8, 10:56 AM CT
With Melky Cabrera now starting in center field and Johnny Damon and Hideki Matsui sharing time in left field and DH, playing time may be hard to come by for Jason Giambi, who just came off the DL on Tuesday, according to Newsday. However, Giambi is willing to fill any role the Yankees need him to. "I'm not worried about it," said Giambi, who had a fielder's choice in the ninth. "I'll do whatever Joe [Torre] wants me to do. I've never been a guy who puts myself in front of the team." Giambi could see some time at first base, as well as occasional time at DH, but it's clear that his fantasy value will likely be limited from now until the end of the year.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 8/7, 6:16 PM CT
The Yankees activated Jason Giambi from the disabled list Tuesday, according to Sportsticker. He had been sidelined with a left foot injury. With Johnny Damon and Hideki Matsui seeing a lot of time at DH as of late, it remains to be seen how often Giambi is going to be in the lineup.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesSunday 8/5, 8:55 PM CT
Jason Giambi, who finished his rehab assignment on Sunday, will rejoin the Yankees on Monday, although he isn't sure when he's going to be activated, according to the AP. "It's exciting for me to get the opportunity," Giambi said. "The injury healed a lot faster than we all thought. I'll just go up there, and the team's playing great, so the biggest thing is to just go up there and be a part of it." Giambi was recovering from a partially torn plantar fascia tendon on the bottom of the left foot.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 8/1, 10:51 PM CT
Jason Giambi could be back with the Yankees within a week. Giambi went 1-for-3 with a walk for Class-A Tampa on Tuesday night in his fourth minor league rehab game. Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesThursday 7/26, 9:11 PM CT
Jason Giambi is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment on Friday. Giambi said he thought he could return from his foot injury next week, but manager Joe Torre and GM Brian Cashman both believe that schedule is overly optimistic, according to the AP. Giambi may not be far away from playing for the Yankees, but he'll have to prove himself in minor league action first.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 7/18, 7:07 AM CT

Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 7/17, 10:18 AM CT
Jason Giambi, out with a left foot injury, has resumed workouts at the Yankees' training facility in Tampa, Fla., according to the Yankees website. "The biggest thing is try not to go fast, but I want to go fast enough where I can hopefully come back and make a difference," Giambi said. "I'm at that point where I need to do more to find out what I [can] do and what I [can't] do. I'm going to push more and more each day, but I also don't want to get to the point where I put myself back at square one, either." No timetable has been set, but he's hoping to return sometime in August.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesFriday 6/29, 10:29 PM CT
Jason Giambi will likely will have another scan next week on his injured left foot to determine how fast he is recovering from a severe injury, according to the AP. The boot that had been on his left foot since May 31 was removed Monday, when he saw Dr. William Hamilton. "He wanted to me to start walking around in my shoe a little bit, and I started getting treatment on it, with massages, trying to get the scar tissue out of there," Giambi said. "It's still sore."
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesFriday 6/29, 10:50 AM CT

Just prior to commissioner Bud Selig's Thursday deadline, Jason Giambi agreed to meet with George Mitchell, who is investigating steroids in baseball. "I will address my own personal history regarding steroids. I will not discuss in any fashion any other individual," Giambi said. No date has been set for the session, though Selig said it will happen "promptly," according to the AP. While it's unlikely that Giambi will say much in the session, it's possible he could face some form of punishment.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesThursday 6/14, 12:07 AM CT

Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesFriday 6/1, 7:33 PM CT
The Yankees placed Jason Giambi on the 15-day disabled list on Friday due to torn tissue in his left foot, the AP reports. News from earlier in the day suggested that Giambi could miss the rest of the season.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesFriday 6/1, 3:53 PM CT
It looks like Jason Giambi's 2007 season could be finished. The New York Post is reporting that the partially torn plantar fascia tendon on the bottom of his left foot will likely keep the slugger out for the rest of the year. Giambi was immediately put in a walking boot after the injury and will be re-evaluated in three weeks, but medical sources told the Post it's usually a three-to-six-month recovery process. Even if Giambi's recovery time is on the short end of that estimate, he would be out until at least early September. That much time off combined with the fact that he wouldn't have the option of playing in any rehab games (the minor league season ends in early September) will make it very tough for Giambi to play another game this year. While Giambi is out, Johnny Damon is expected to be the primary DH, with Melky Cabrera taking over in center for Damon.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesThursday 5/31, 4:33 PM CT

The Yankees will give Jason Giambi a cortisone shot tomorrow for his bum left heel. The team hopes Giambi will be ready to play by Friday in Boston, but that may be too soon, according to Newsday. "Make it better," Giambi said was the goal. "I'd do fine for one day and struggle for three. We obviously need me to be that player that I can be where I can help carry the team. Singles and doubles aren't going to get it done." Giambi said a trip to the DL is a last resort. "We can't afford to let ourselves get any further back," he said. "Unfortunately, we don't have time."
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesMonday 5/28, 8:12 AM CT
Jason Giambi is feeling the bone spurs in his left foot enough that he's considering getting a cortisone injection. "It's just frustrating to go up and down with my foot," Giambi said. "The more I get on it, the more sore it gets. I'm one of the guys who can carry this team. Forget about making contact, I need to start driving the ball if I'm going to protect Alex (Rodriguez, in the batting order). It's definitely not (healing) fast enough for me or this team." Or fantasy teams, for that matter. Manager Joe Torre said he might rest Giambi on Monday, according to the New York Daily News. Giambi has only three hits in his past 18 at-bats. Between his sore foot and the foot he placed in his mouth recently, there is plenty to be concerned with when it comes to Giambi right now.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesThursday 5/24, 8:57 PM CT
We should find out within a week or two what Major League Baseball will do about Jason Giambi following his recent comments in USA Today that could be interpreted as an admission that he used steroids. Commissioner Bud Selig likely will issue a statement even if he doesn't discipline Giambi, who met with laywers from the commisioner's office on Wednesday, according to the AP. Even if Giambi ends up being suspended, he'd be able to fight it through an arbitrator. Until Selig makes an announcement, though, it's anyone's guess what might happen.

The Yankees may revisit trying to void Jason Giambi's contract if it's determined that he used illegal drugs after they signed him to a seven-year, $120 million contract in 2001, according to the New York Daily News. He was quoted in USA Today on Friday as saying that he "was wrong for doing that stuff," in reference to having used steroids. The commissioner's office is investigating his comments and will summon him to a meeting to discuss them. For now, there's no worry, but this is the type of thing that could snowball quickly if MLB determines he was using steroids or other illegal substances.
Jason Giambi, 1B, Colorado RockiesFriday 5/18, 9:50 AM CT
Joe Torre doesn't expect Jason Giambi to play first base at Shea Stadium at least until Sunday night and probably not at all unless the new orthotics for his left heel deliver quick relief from a bone spur, according to the New York Post.
