Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesWednesday 2/24, 8:18 AM CT
Derek Jeter reiterated on Wednesday that he has zero interest in leaving the Yankees next offseason when his 10-year contract expires, according to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.

Our View: The Yankees have taken the rather curious approach of not extending their captain's deal until it runs out, but he doesn't sound insulted - yet. He may start thinking differently if he has an off 2010 season and the Yankees dictate he takes a pay cut, however.
Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesWednesday 2/10, 8:26 AM CT
Joel Sherman of the New York Post thinks the Yankees and Derek Jeter will ultimately agree to a four-year contract extension in the neighborhood of $100 million.

Our View: Sherman believes Jeter's superb defensive season in 2009 has put the Yankees in a tough position, and if he comes close to repeating it in 2010, they will have no choice but to shell out whatever he wants. Stay tuned.

Derek Jeter can add another award to his crowded mantle, as he was announced as the winner of Sports Illustrated's annual Sportsman of the Year award on Monday, according to Sports Illustrated.

Our View: Not a bad consolation prize after missing out on the American League's MVP award to Joe Mauer. Shockingly, Jeter is the first Yankee in the 56 years of the award to take home the honor.
Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesThursday 10/29, 5:41 PM CT

Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesWednesday 10/7, 9:10 PM CT
Derek Jeter was not only the catalyst for the Yankee offense on Wednesday, he was also the anchor and the engine. His 2-for-2 performance sparked New York to a 7-2 win and 1-0 division series lead over the Twins.

Our View: Jeter hit a monstrous two-run homer in the third inning that tied the game at 2-2 and the Yankees never looked back after. The veteran shortstop finished the day 2-for-2, scored three runs and also worked a pair of walks. Hard to be more all-around than that.
Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesTuesday 9/8, 3:39 PM CT
Derek Jeter will serve as the Yankees' DH for Tuesday night's game against the Rays, according to the Twitter page of baseball writer Ed Price. Jerry Hairston will replace Jeter at short.

Our View: Jeter has been struggling at the plate as he chases Lou Gehrig's hit record, so maybe the Yanks want to give him a game to focus solely on his hitting. He could also be getting a night off in the field to rest, but either way he is a safe fantasy play for tonight.
Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesFriday 9/4, 7:07 PM CT
Derek Jeter received a scheduled day off on Friday night, according to MLB.com. Jeter was replaced at shortstop by Ramiro Pena.

Our View: Nothing to worry about here, and the Yanks have planned this day off for Jeter in advance. He is having an outstanding year, and he probabaly won't be seeing many more days on the bench this season.

Derek Jeter went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Sunday's 10-3 loss to the Mariners.

Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesSunday 7/26, 4:29 PM CT
Derek Jeter drove in two runs for the third straight game on Sunday, helping the Yanks beat the A's 7-5 at home.

Our View: Jeter is having his finest season in years in 2009, batting a robust .321 with 11 home runs and 43 RBI. The new Yankee Stadium has surely helped, but the 35-year-old shortstop is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon.
Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesSaturday 7/25, 3:55 PM CT
Derek Jeter hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning on Saturday, but it wasn't enough as the the Yankees fell to the A's 6-4. Jeter went 1-for-4 with the home run, two runs scored, and two RBI.

Our View: Jeter served as the team's DH today, and apparently he enjoyed the new role. His average is at .319 for the season, and he is showing no signs of slowing down. The shortstop remains one of the better players in the game and one of the top options at the position in all fantasy leagues.
Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesSaturday 7/25, 11:32 AM CT
Derek Jeter is serving as the Yankees' DH for their Saturday afternoon game against the A's. Cody Ransom will take over at shortstop for Jeter today.

Our View: There isn't anything wrong with Jeter, but the team is just giving him a day off on defense today without losing his bat in the order. He should be back at short tomorrow, and this won't have any fantasy impact today.

Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesSaturday 6/27, 3:46 PM CT
According to Ken Davidoff's twitter account, Derek Jeter is out of the lineup once again on Saturday.

According to the Newark Star Ledger, Yankees Manager Joe Girardi is keeping an eye on Derek Jeter. He is concerned about Jeter's sore ankle that appeared to bother him in Friday's game.

Our View: Girardi noticed a "hitch" in Jeter's step while rounding the bases and it didn't seem to improve as the game went on. Jeter swears he's fine, but don't be surprised if he gets occasional days off to keep the injury from intensifying. As of right now, he's good to go for today's game.
Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesThursday 6/18, 11:36 AM CT
Derek Jeter is not in the Yankees' lineup on Thursday as he is still suffering from a stiff left ankle. He will be replaced at short by Ramiro Pena, who will hit ninth.

Our View: Jeter was hoping to play today, but the Yankees decided to give him another game off. On the bright side, it looks like weather may prevent anyone from playing the Bronx today, so Jeter may not have to miss the game after all. Expect him to return to the lineup this weekend.
Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesWednesday 6/17, 4:34 PM CT

According to the Journal News, Derek Jeter is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game.

Our View: The stiff ankle is still bothering the Yankee shortstop and he is considered day-to-day. He'll likely be a game time decision for the rest of the week, but Jeter is a gamer and won't take sitting out lightly. That bodes wells for fantasy owners as he'll do whatever it takes to get back in the lineup. Good thing too. He's putting together a fine fantasy campaign this season hitting .306 with nine homers, 30 RBI and 13 steals.

Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesFriday 5/29, 10:54 PM CT

Our View: Jeter almost has his average to .300 this season and he has now hit in 12 straight games. His average jumped from .266 to .299 during the streak and Jeter shows why he is still a capable fantasy option at short.
Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesThursday 5/14, 5:31 PM CT

Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesFriday 4/24, 11:22 PM CT
Derek Jeter had two hits for the Yankees on Friday, but the Yanks couldn't beat the Red Sox as they lost 5-4 in eleven innings. Jeter had a double, a run scored, and an RBI.

Our View: Jeter continues to be big for the Yanks, but the team couldn't close out the hated Sox. Jeter has been a pleasant surprise this season offensively, so Jeter owners should be very happy with him.
Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesWednesday 4/22, 6:00 PM CT
Derek Jeter went 2-for-7 in Wednesday's marathon win against the A's. He had a home run, his fourth of the season, and drove in two. He is hitting .286 on the year.

Our View: Jeter has shown some nice power this season, an added bonus for Jeter owners. He is still a quality fantasy option in mixed leagues, and the four home runs solidify his status as such.

Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesWednesday 4/8, 9:18 PM CT
Derek Jeter was 2-for-4 on Wednesday and hit his first home run of the season in a losing effort as the Yankees fell to the Orioles 7-5.

Our View: Jeter is not the fantasy stud he once was, but should still put up solid numbers across the board. Given how his star is on the decline, he might actually end up returning a nice value in '09 if you were able to roster him late.
Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesWednesday 4/1, 12:23 PM CT
The Yankees will open the season with a revised top of the batting order. Shortstop Derek Jeter is moving up to the leadoff spot, and outfielder Johnny Damon will fall to the No. 2 hole, the AP confirms.

Our View: It seems a little odd to move a long-time leadoff hitter and a long-time No. 2 batter out of their usual spots, and we'd love to hear all the reasoning behind the switch. This news doesn't change our outlooks for Jeter or Damon. Heck, for all we know, Joe Girardi might change his mind one week into the season if the Yankees offense starts off slowly.
Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesSunday 3/29, 11:33 AM CT
Derek Jeter exited Saturday's game with a bruised pinkie knuckle on his left hand, but is expected to return to the diamond Sunday, according to the New York Daily News. Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesSunday 3/1, 4:06 PM CT
Derek Jeter went a perfect 3-for-3 from the dish Sunday afternoon as the Yankees lost a 13-11 slugfest to the Reds.

Our View: As has been the case for what seems like each of the last four or five seasons, Jeter will have to guide his Yankees team through a sea of off-the-field controversy and scandal with his natural leadership.
Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesTuesday 2/24, 3:20 PM CT
Derek Jeter will play in the team's first exhibition game on Wednesday, according to the AP.

Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesWednesday 2/4, 6:29 PM CT
Derek Jeter recently expressed a lot of excitement to the New York Daily News. "I'm probably as excited about this season as I've been about any season in a long time because we've made some great additions," the Captain of Obvious recently said.

Our View: It's true, the Yankees were able to acquire some talent with their extra $450 million they spent this offseason. Jeter may benefit from the potentially stronger lineup. His numbers have declined over the past two years, but it's very conceivable he gets his runs total back over 100 this season. His 88 runs scored last season marked the first time in his career that he's received over 500 at-bats and registered less than 100 runs.
Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesFriday 1/16, 5:39 PM CT
The Yankees and Mets were both approved to receive more bonds for construction of their new stadiums, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: The city of New York will will repaid for the bonds. Even if it takes years for that to happen, the economic boom that it will create for the city in construction jobs as well as in-season positions for the two teams, should make the bonds worth it.
Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesTuesday 1/13, 11:33 AM CT
Yankees president Randy Levine was subpoenaed by New York City officials as they investigate the public funding used by the team to build their new stadium, according to the AP.

Our View: The team used millions of dollars from the public to help build the stadium, and there have been question marks about it for quite a while, which the city hopes Levine will help answer.
Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesMonday 12/22, 7:26 PM CT
Adding insult to injury the Yankees have to pay $26.9 million, their highest luxury tax in three years, after not even making the playoffs in 2008, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: The Detroit Tigers were the only other team required to pay a luxury tax. Their tab was a bit smaller at just $1.3 million. However, like the Yankees, the Tigers also missed the postseason.
Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesTuesday 12/16, 5:07 PM CT
The Yankees are ending their sponsorship deal with General Motors, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: GM's financial troubles are the reason for this decision. Toyota and Audi will replace GM as the Yankees' auto sponsors and will be featured on signs inside the new Yankee Stadium.
Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesThursday 11/13, 4:42 PM CT
Derek Jeter won his third straight Silver Slugger on Thursday, according to the Associated Press.

Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesSaturday 11/8, 8:12 AM CT
Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter said he and free agent pitcher CC Sabathia have spoken about the organization, according to the New York Daily News. "He's asked questions about us," Jeter said.

Our View: The Yankees will be players for the big lefty, but Sabathia is said to prefer the Left Coast. Either way, he's performing his due diligence in anticipation of a huge offer.
Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesFriday 10/10, 10:08 AM CT
Derek Jeter and co. will have some comfortable new surroundings when they move into the clubhouse of the new Yankee Stadium, according to the Orange County Register. Robert Kuwada reports that they will have underground parking with elevators to the clubhouse, which will be 25,000 square feet.

Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesSaturday 9/27, 1:50 PM CT
Updating a previous report, Derek Jeter has been ruled out for the final regular two games of the regular season according to the Providence Journal.

Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesSaturday 9/27, 7:48 AM CT
Derek Jeter will sit out Saturday's game with Boston according to the Journal News. He did not seem optimistic about playing on Sunday. He left Friday's game against Boston in the third inning due to a sore left hand.

Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesFriday 9/26, 11:23 PM CT
Derek Jeter left Friday's game against Boston in the third inning due to a sore left hand, according to the AP.

Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesTuesday 9/23, 11:45 PM CT
Yankees chairman Hank Steinbrenner is angry, and he won't take it anymore, according to Yankees.com. He hates the fact there are divisions, and does not think it's fair that teams with better records than others get left out of the playoffs. "Baseball went to a multi-division setup to create more races, rivalries and excitement. But it isn't fair. ... "What if the Yankees finish the season with more wins than the Dodgers, but the Dodgers make the playoffs? Does that make the Dodgers a better team? No," Steinbrenner said. He also added the fact that the Cardinals won the World Series in 2006 was "ridiculous."

Our View: We wonder if Steinbrenner will go into Bud Selig's office, stomp his feet and hold his breath until Selig changes these completely unfair divisions. It has gotten to the point where Steinbrenner doesn't realize people are lauging at him, not with him.
Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesTuesday 9/23, 6:22 PM CT

Our View: Jeter's average stands at .306 and he appears on pace to get his tenth season of hitting over .300. The Yankee legend has never hit lower than .291 in 13 seasons of being a regular.
Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesTuesday 9/16, 1:25 PM CT
Derek Jeter has six games left at Yankee Stadium, and he will need to get one more base knock to pass Lou Gehrig for the most hits in the history of Yankee Stadium, according to the New York Post.

Our View: You can count on Jeter doing just that, barring an injury of some sort. He has picked up his play in September, and is finally over the .300 mark that fantasy owners had been waiting for.
Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesSunday 9/14, 3:33 PM CT
Jeter continued his recent hot streak on Sunday, going 3-for-4 with his 11th home run of the season. He also tied Lou Gehrig's record for most hits in Yankee Stadium.

Our View: Congrats to Jeter, who is hitting well above .400 in September and has three hits in three consecutive games.

Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesMonday 9/1, 4:33 PM CT
Derek Jeter produced a full line on Monday with three runs, two hits, two RBI and three walks for the Yankees.

Our View: Jeter hit .345 in July and with his two hits today he has upped his average to .296 on the year. After a pedestrian start to the year, Jeter has started to come on though he will still likely fail to record 100-runs, he currently has 75, for the first time in his career in a season of 500-AB.
Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesSunday 8/31, 10:01 AM CT
Like a number of hitters, Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter has a difficult time against the pitcher he will face on Sunday, Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay. Jeter is just 19-for-75 (.253) with 21 strikeouts against the big right-hander for his career.

Our View: Jeter has had a great August that had pushed his average near the .300 mark, so fantasy owners with him on their squad hope that outweighs his past failures against Halladay.

Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesSunday 6/1, 4:43 PM CT
Derek Jeter hit his third home run of the season and was the lone Yankees run producer in a 6-1 loss to the Twins on Sunday afternoon.

Our View: It's gone mostly unnoticed, but since Derek Jeter was hit on the hand on May 20th, he's hit under .200 and done so without any power. The All Star shortstop has looked more comfortable at the plate the last two days which might be a sign his hand is finally getting healthy.
Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesMonday 5/26, 7:35 PM CT
It's gone mostly unnoticed, but since Derek Jeter was hit on the hand in last Tuesday's game against the Orioles, he is 1-for-20 at the plate.

Our View: Jeter was 0-for-3 on Monday and his [last Tuesday] .300 plus batting average is now down to .282. It's unlikely that Jeter has lost his typical aggressive nature at the plate. It is, however, suspected he isn't 100 percent and the injury is affecting his hand strength.

Manager Joe Girardi added, "We'll look at how sore he is and how swollen it is. I wouldn't be surprised if he can't play, but I wouldn't be surprised if Derek finds a way to play. That's the type of player he is. He got hit pretty hard. There aren't too many days he sits out. My gut tells me he's going to be pretty sore, but there are a lot of days that people don't think Derek will play and he goes out there."

Our View: Jeter insists he'll be back in the lineup Wednesday as the Yankees try to snap their four-game losing streak. Pencil him into your lineups with caution.

Our View: Jeter is hitting a solid .302, but he has just one home run and not a single stolen base through 36 games, a shocking revelation for the HOF bound Jeter. Based on his track record, you have to think that a run of SB and HR will be coming shortly.
