Jesus Montero, C, New York YankeesSunday 3/21, 12:53 PM CT
Jesus Montero has been sent to the Yankees' minor league camp, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

Our View: The elite catching prospect was never expected to make the club out of spring training. Look for him to have a big year in the minor leagues.
Joe Mauer, C, Minnesota TwinsSunday 3/21, 12:45 PM CT
According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Twins could be announcing a contract extension for MVP-catcher Joe Mauer "any day now."

Our View: Mauer leaving Minnesota has never really seemed likely, but it would certainly be nice for the two sides to agree to a deal before the season starts. Stay tuned.
Joey Devine, P, Oakland AthleticsSunday 3/21, 11:07 AM CT
Joey Devine (elbow) will "throw" on Sunday morning, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: He was scratched from a scheduled session on Friday. How he feels today will go a long way toward determining his status for opening day.
Matt Thornton, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 3/21, 9:19 AM CT
With Bobby Jenks battling a calf injury this spring, there's a good chance Matt Thornton will begin the season as Chicago's closer, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Consider him a mandatory late-round insurance pick if you draft Jenks. Stay tuned.
Bobby Jenks, P, Chicago White SoxSunday 3/21, 9:17 AM CT
Bobby Jenks (strained calf) seems unlikely to be ready for opening day, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Were that to be the case, Matt Thornton is expected to begin the season as Chicago's closer. Obviously, stay tuned.
Joe Nathan, P, Minnesota TwinsSunday 3/21, 8:28 AM CT
Updating an earlier item, Joe Nathan has revealed that his elbow felt stiff during his Sunday morning throwing session, and that he has decided to go forward with Tommy John surgery, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Our View: Ever since Nathan started having elbow problems earlier this spring, it seemed unlikely that he would be able to avoid Tommy John. He needed a miracle to do so, but alas a miracle has not come. He will miss all of the 2010 season, and likely some of 2011. Unless Minnesota soon makes a trade, Jon Rauch will likely open the season as the team's stopper.
Joe Nathan, P, Minnesota TwinsSunday 3/21, 7:54 AM CT
Joe Nathan (elbow) played catch with Twins pitching coach Rick Anderson on Sunday morning, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Our View: No word yet on how he felt. Obviously, the answer to that question will have a huge impact on Minnesota's 2010 season. Stay tuned.
Dioner Navarro, C, Tampa Bay RaysSunday 3/21, 7:49 AM CT
Dioner Navarro (bruised shin) should be able to return to Tampa Bay's lineup by sometime next week, according to the St. Petersburg Times. "It wasn't as bad as I thought,'' he said. "Thank god there was no fracture, no break, no ligament (damage), just nerve trauma that caused my leg to go numb.''

Our View: Amazingly, this injury shouldn't affect his regular season status at all. He has really dodged a bullet.
